  3. Ovation of the Seas
Ovation Of The Seas was a completely new experience for us as we usually sailed on their normal style ships ie the Royal Promenade, Outdoor Promenade, and the 3 levels of MDR. It was their Hi-tech new ship with new and advance technology onboard. Embarkation. We head down to the pier and arrived around 10.30am. There were not many people around as most of them had chosen to follow the appointment times given. We had a 12 pm appointment but we came earlier anyway and I'm glad we did. As the terminal was mostly empty at that hour, we had a fast check in and were seated waiting for boarding in not more than 10 mins. Boarding was at 11am and we didn't have to wait very long. Ship: We were the first few onboard the ship, and immediately we were pounded by the crew asking as to buy beverage package, dining package etc. Whatever that needed to be sold, was thrown to us. There was no escape as it was right after they collected the passports. A simple no thanks and we are through in seconds. Ship was in great condition, and it smelled like it had just come out of the shipyard. There was no royal promenade, having been replaced by the Royal Esplanade. No outside promenade which we were fine with it. It was huge no doubt, but we had no problems finding our way around the ship with the helpful Wayfinder. There were a solarium and a main pool area along with a small kids area with slides. This was great for the families with small kids. The Solarium was air conditioned and looks great in person. Lots of whirlpools and a water feature which you can relax in. Activites:There were lots of activities like Xbox, trapeze, and skating, all of which are great fun for the families and kids. North Star was available all throughout the day with long queues under the hot sun for 2 hours. However, we didn't have to wait as we had bookings or came when the ship was in port. I think we did more than 5 or 6 times on the North Star. The tip here is to come when there is no lines, particularly on boarding day or in port. There was literally no one waiting. The view was great though however, it didn't go outside the ship so it was a little disappointing. Bumper Cars Opens 3 hours every day with Max 17 cars on the field at any time. It was great fun and we kept going and going for many times until I'm unable to count. If you are hungry, there's a hot dog stand right beside. It's free so I guess RCL knows best where to place their food stores. Flow Rider Great activity too. Ride the waves everytime and its exciting to hear the water gushing as you tried to balance yourself. Minigolf Many holes with different degree of challenges. They even have a scorecard and a pencil if you play. IFLY Didn't try out this activity but it looks great fun and exciting to do it. Might do this next time. Bionic Bar Bionic Bar is an activity by itself as you can try your hands at making your own Cocktail or drink. And it was made by 2 robotic hands which do all the work getting drinks which hung from above like lightbulbs on the ceiling. Great to watch them dance and shake your cocktail. The technology and amazement of just watching it made up for the absence of the human bartenders. Dining: Windjammer was great this time with a huge variety of options for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. There was Stir-Fry and freshly cooked to order eggs. Probably the best Windjammer I had. There was no MDR though as it is split into 4 different theme restaurants. Service was poor for My-Time Dining. Long waits and took a long time to get a cup of water refilled. There was no atmosphere or the feeling you had when taking Voyager, Freedom, traditional RCL ships that had an actual MDR. The food was plated nicely and appetizing. As with all RCL ships I have taken, I have only eaten at Chops Grill on the first day due to the discount and it was great. Service was good and food taste the same as all RCL ships. There was a problem with the C&A discount during the bill so I got a free glass of wine and able to use it again. Solarium Bistro was a Greek-Mediterrean style dining room next to the solarium. It had a cozy and relaxed atmosphere with great service and good food. But this is by Invitation only due to the fact there were over 5000 people onboard. I don't know how they came up with the invitation list though. Service: Other than the service in the dining room which was a let down, there was nothing to complain about. From front office to the manager and the ship officers, everyone was great and helpful. Entertainment: Two70 Pixles & Technical experience Great show, with amzing technical use of the screens, projections and the area around. Performers were right up close to the guests. The technical experience showcases the behind the scenes of the screen and some clips that make use of the Two70 glass windows. You need to see to be amazed by it. Beautiful Dream & Live Love Legs: Great Musical with talented cast actors and wonderful props. It was a show I could follow and understand. Great lighting effects and coordination. Singing was top class. Would see it over and over again. To finish off, I came onboard Ovation Of The Seas for the ship as I have done this route many times. From the start to the finish, I was entertain and had great fun throughout the voyage. Ovation has lots to offer for everyone and with the advance technology onboard throwing up surprises like the Bionic Bar, Pixes, and North Star to name a few. Ovation had me hook and in all a different class and the right step ahead for RCL.

Cabin Review

Cabin 10198
Lovely Cabin with Bed by the Balcony. Lots of storage space and good size room with standard balcony size which was good enough for me. A short walk from the lifts and is located near the midship where it's easy to anywhere on the ship. They don't provide the toiletries though. Was glad they provided slippers. Great and hardworking stateroom attendant who took care of us those 5 days.

Lots of stuff to do around. They had a local market which was selling local specialties. Tourist Information center was well equipped and spoke English with good clear directions.

This is a tender Port but tenders run really quickly and fast using the tender boats and local ferries. Great organization by the team on Ovation to tender more than 5000 people. Ovation Of The Seas tenders in Patong Beach which was right in the heart of everything. We walked around and watch people do jet skis and parasailing by the beach before heading to our favorite place Hard Rock Cafe for a drink and souveniers. Lots of places to eat too. People are generally friendly.
