This was our first Princess Cruise and we chose it because of the ports and the reasonable pricing. The trip started with a smooth embarkation process which got us onboard earlier than expected. The ship is huge and beautiful. It has very tasteful decor and is laid out so that getting from bow to stern is quite easy. There are so many dining options that we didn't get a chance to sample them all on our 11 day cruise. The buffet had an incredible array of options every night and the service there was excellent! We loved that someone was always checking on our beverages and making sure we had everything we needed. That's normal for the main dining room of course, but we have never seen this done in a cruise buffet before. We sailed out of Copenhagen and then visited Oslo, Norway; Warnemunde, Germany, Tallin, Estonia; St. Petersburg, Russia; Helsinki, Finland; Stockholm, Sweden; and finally back to Copenhagen. That's a lot of ports for one cruise but it gave us a great taste of the Baltic and gave us ideas on where we'd like to return. The entertainment was excellent with a range of singers to choose from every night. There were also three or four production shows which were excellent. We took shore excursions in all ports except for Tallin and Stockholm. The excursions were all a great value and we saw things we would have never seen otherwise. The only excursion that wasn't an A+ for us was an all-day excursion in St. Petersburg and it wasn't the excursion's fault. There were at least eight cruise ships in port that day so every site we went to was packed. Like I said, this was our first Princess cruise, but it won't be our last!

Cabin Review

Interior
Cabin ID R715
We almost always book interior cabins to save money, so we are very familiar with their benefits and detractions. The thing we really liked about this cabin was that the bathroom is behind a wall so it doesn't open directly into the bedroom. Very nice.

The downside of this cabin is that there are fold up bunks on each wall. It takes a couple of painful bumps before you get accustomed to bending over as you get up.

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews

  • Berlin
Actually, the port here is Warnemünde. Our excursion involved taking a train from here to Berlin and then getting about 5 hours to explore on our own. We were a little concerned about the connections, but our Princess guide took complete care of us. Once in Berlin we walked to Checkpoint Charlie, the Brandenburg Gate and several other major points of interest. It was a great day!

  • Copenhagen
We spent a day before the cruise and three days after the cruise exploring Copenhagen on our own. It's an incredible city with so much to see and do. It also has an excellent transportation system and if you buy a Copenhagen Card you can get anywhere in the area without figuring out how much to pay. The Copenhagen Card also gets you into many of the top attractions for free.

  • City Tour
We took the City Tour excursion and got bussed to many of the city's top sites. We particularly liked the Vigeland Sculpture Park. Incredible works of art and all by one man!

  • St. Petersburg
Our first day we took a 9 hour city tour. It started with a visit to the beautiful Catherine's Palace and then proceeded to several points of interest in the city including the awesome Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood. Very good tour except all the sites were packed with fellow cruisers.

The next day we boarded a bus for a cooking class. We learned how to make Russian dumplings while sampling vodka. What fun!

We wandered around this delightful old city for hours...amazed at well preserved it was. We stopped to have cold beverages in the city square and then wandered some more. It's a beautiful little city and we loved it.
