I must admit, I did not have high expectations for this cruise. I had read some negative reviews and friends who had been on the Christmas 2015 cruise on explorer was very disappointed, we had previously cruised the Voyager in November 2015 and had a wonderful time, but more recently cruised ovation with some disappointment. So as I said, I did not have high expectations but was willing to take each day as it came and enjoy as much as possible. Well I did not have to worry at all. We all had a blast. All up there were 2 x 18year olds, 3 x 16 year olds and us oldies. Graeme the cruise director was loads of fun, even the captain kept us entertained. There were heaps of activities to choose from, lots of game shows, great range of themes in the trivia, classes etc. I loved that they utilised the outdoor movie screen daily and nightly (unlike the ovation) There were also movies in the theatre on a regular basis. The themed parties were loads of fun. I could not fault the food, it was always tasty with a good variety, we ate most breakfasts and lunches in the windjammer. We did have one lunch at Johnny Rockets, I was not overly impressed but glad we did it the once. Dinner was mostly in the MDR and we had good waiters, even though the first few nights our host kept getting lost and taking us on a tour of the room before finding our table, after the third night we just went to our table as he passed it, after that we just took ourselves to the table. We were able to see the funny side as we understood that the staff may be new and still not sure of table numbers etc. Our waiters were not as entertaining as ones we experienced on voyager but could not complain and by the end they warmed up to us and we all had a good chat and laugh with each other. The cruise ship was always clean except for the lift up and down button outside the lifts, they always seemed to be covered with sticky and dirty finger prints. Was disappointed with their non alcoholic drink options, we purchased the package that included mocktails but found that the option for that was fruit punch and each bar made it differently and it was not very nice at all, in the end I gave up and stuck to water. Only a few bars could make the frozen drinks. We found previous cruises the bar staff would use their imagination and provide a good range of mocktails, we even gave details of what we had had previously but they were still unable to make it for us. This is an area they need to improve on as not everyone drinks alcohol and would like an option rather than coke. Other than those few minor issues, we all enjoyed ourselves and would recommend cruising on explorer.

Cabin Review

Cabin 6308
Cabin was clean, though didn't realise that as it was a connecting room it meant that we did not have a lounge but instead a single seat. Would have preferred a lounge but now that I know I will ensure I don't book a connecting room again. Also not sure if it was due to it being a connecting room but I heard all the conversations from the connecting room as well as toilet being flushed. There were a lot of squeaking noises and as a light sleeper ended up having to have the balcony door open so that the ocean drained out the noise.
