  3. Diamond Princess
Chosen because of the destination and advised by Thomas Cook. Pros: Although old the ship was well maintained. Our cabin was a mini suite on deck 9 which was spacious and modern. The TV and movies available were excellent. Food was fabulous in all dining areas we accessed. Some staff very attentive in the dining areas. The excursions we chose from Princess were 1. Langkawi on your own - Waste of money! Dont choose it! We were taken to 3 shopping areas none of which were particularly good. We had very little time "on our own" and saw very little of this beautiful area. 2. Best of Bangkok- this was really good visits to 2 Temples and a Tuk Tuk ride and buffet lunch 3. Best of Ho Chi Min City- Really good trip, visited a military palace, A Taoist temple, puppet show and Buffet lunch with entertainment then a short coffee stop. Cons: The cruise and holiday was expensive in the first instance being over 8k but then gratutities added on board were an additional hidden cost. We had already purchased the holiday before I was aware that these gratuities would be added and we were not aware of what the cost would be. We also purrchased an all inclusive drinks package which also incurred a gratuities cost. We were told by Thomas Cooke that we could have these removed once on board the ship. I tried this but my enquiry was evaded and I was told that everyone had to pay this so discouraged I gave up. All told we paid an approximate additional £300 in gratuities. The entertainment was not brilliant. The same artists performing every night in the same bar was frankly boring. Chris Ricketts a singer guitarist was good but we didnt want to see him every night. The dance or show team were adequate but Thomson cruise entertainment team would knock spots off them! Service on board at bars was adequate but hardly noteworthy. Some staff hard to break into a smile. Overall I did enjoy seeing Asia but in retrospect I would not have chosen a cruise to see this amazing part of the world. Too many stops with too little time at each place and inbetween.

Expensive Disappointment
