- Destination: Caribbean
- Cabin Type: Standard Interior Stateroom
The embarkation process went smoothly and our luggage was in our rooms by the time we arrived. Our room was on the 4th deck over the Theater. I would not book this room again as we heard the last performance every night from our room, as we were usually in by 10-10:30PM. We heard nothing from the rooms around or across from us.
We had asked for first dinner seating with our traveling companions, and were waitlisted, therefore did open seating every night. We never had to wait long for a table unless we chose to dine with just the four of us and even then was never more than a 5-10 minute wait. I enjoyed the larger groups, but found with more than 6 at a table, it was very hard to hear and carry on a conversation with anyone but the person on either side, and as there were mostly elderly on board this was an issue every night. Also, we never became familiar with the dining room staff as those at assigned tables did. The food in the dining room was great, especially enjoyed the fresh fish choices nightly. We also ate at the Pinnacle Grill and Canaletto's, and had wonderful meals and unhurried service for both nights. We frequently ate at the Lido for lunch and although they offered the same options daily, there was enough variety to keep us satisfied and the service was as attentive as in the dining room.
The entertainment was great! Loved the quintet at the Lincoln stage and really enjoyed the Piano Bar with sing-a-longs. There was standing room only if you didn't get to the venue at least 30-45 minutes early.
I can't say enough for the service! We had morning coffee delivered daily and our room stewards, Harris and Oom, knew our names by the second day. On asking at the service desk for a screwdriver to repair a piece of luggage, they took the suitcase and repaired it free of charge and delivered it to our room. One of our traveling companions injured his back and had to spend three days in bed. The room stewards looked in on him frequently, bringing him snacks and ice packs, helping with wheelchairs and transportation to the clinic, and escorting him through the disembarkation process. We used the laundry service for $20.00,and our large bag of clothing came back folded or ironed and hung on hangers within 12 hours.
We took a snorkeling excursion, 'The Cow Boat' in Bonaire, and the 'Made in Curacao' tour in Curacao. Both were well organized and enjoyable. Mostly we just enjoyed sitting by the pool and in the Crow's Nest visiting with other travelers. We also took the 'Everglades Tour' on disembarkation day. The boat ride was fun and interesting, but the animal preserve was not particularly interesting and I resented being solicited for tips at every exhibit. Even with the tour we had over a 4 hour wait at the airport for our flight. As we didn't have earlier flight choices, it would be nice to have some time of tour the last day that lasted a little longer.
With the exception of our injured traveling companion, the trip was very enjoyable. We will definitely travel with Holland America again.
