  3. Carnival Vista
We chose this cruise because it was a new ship and we used to love carnival. We have not been on a cruise for several years because we built a cabin in the mountains and were spending our vacations there for a while. We remembered how we were waited on and pampered and the wonderful food and just how relaxed we were after cruising the more than 2 dozen cruises we went on....so, we thought it was time and booked the Vista because it was a new ship and stated that it had lots to offer. We did not come back feeling good about much at all. 8 days to the exotic southern Caribbean February 11 -19, 2017 on the Vista changed how we viewed cruising and the Carnival Line all together. We live in Florida, so Leaving out of Miami was no big deal. Embarkation was Smooth...No problem...took about an hour. When you walk in the ship...the lobby itself will make you cringe. It's small, plain and even though the LED light in the center is pretty...it is a fraction of the size compared to most ships and boring. It looks unfinished and cold. NO GRANDIER STAIR CASE with BEAUTIFUL ELEVATORS...just blah!!!!!! After entering the ship, like cattle....we were allowed to immediately go to our room. The rooms were nice and we met our cabin steward which was the best part of our trip. He was wonderful! Everyone on board that we spoke to had a really good experience with their cabin stewards. The problem with our room was that we purchased a balcony cabin...it wasn't the lowest level cabin either. It was mid-range level Balcony. When we walked on the balcony... there was no privacy at all. The balcony was one floor up from a jet out of the barbeque restaurant. Who ever was on the lower deck can talk to you and see into your room. It was loud and noisy all day because it was a restaurant open for lunch and at night, people would sit out there and talk, smoke or whatever and we couldn't sit out on the balcony and have any privacy. Also, the lights were on which made it bright in our cabin and we always had to keep the blinds closed or people could see in. I did go down and complain, but they told me that they were full to capacity...which led to the next issue..... DINING! What a disaster and disappointment to any cruise I have ever been on. They now have any time dining which is a great concept...if done correctly. We would get pagers and have to wait 30 minutes for a table (like a busy chain restaurant at home) sometimes the pagers would not go off if you leave the restaurant lobby and then you would not be called. You were stuck. Then you get seated at different servers all the time and there was no personal service because of that. Also...no table clothes on the tables except for formal night. Made this cafeteria style. Food was just average. I had to send back 7 items in the week. Mostly over cooked and just plain awful. The good things I did have were escargot (which I told them I loved and they allowed me to order each night)THAT was a plus and the chocolate Melting Cake which was on the menu each night...other than that, there was nothing special and all the premium things, like filet mignon and lobster, etc. was an upcharge. Not what I thought I was paying for. Dinner took too long...2.5 hours. Seriously... even if you go to dinner early, 7:30...you were not out of there till 10 p.m. so you missed shows and/or other activities. If we were so lucky to make the early show at 7:30 and then have dinner, we were out of the restaurant 10:30 - 11:00 p.m. and then everything shut down at midnight! That is ridiculous. However, the buffet was absolutely horrible....tasted liked canned dried out food. NOT GOOD. We were luck to make it to 2 shows in the 8 nights. They were very good and everyone said the other show we missed because it was day 2 and we didn't know what we would deal with at dining at this time was really good. So, obviously the entertainment was good...but you would have to really navigate any dinner plans to make the show. NOW....HERE IS THE HUGEST COMPLAINT.... SERVICE was ABSOLUTELY THE WORST. Could never find anyone to get you a drink!!! In the bars, in the lounges/theatres and especially the pool. You had to go to the bars yourself to get serviced. Wait in line and then buy your drinks and serve yourself, but they still had the 15% gratuities on top of your drink charges. THIS WAS RIDICULOUS!!!!!! Ports: we were not in the ports long at all....seemed so rushed and too expensive to do an excursion through the ship. AGAIN, RIDICULOUS!!!!! There were too many people aboard and we could never find a lounge chair by the pool. We finally figured it out...we had to get to the pool by 6:30 a.m. to get a chair, but if you left your seat to get lunch...they would tag your towel and 40 minutes later remove it. Who really wants to be glued to the lounge chair from 6:30 in the morning till you were ready to go back to your cabin???? NOT enough chairs, waiters or bartenders. Everyone on board felt the same way, complained about the same thing....just not worth the money for this cruise or worth anything. In a nut shell, the room stewards were great. Specialty restaurants are great, but you have an upcharge which is ridiculous and the entertainment is good if you can navigate yourself to get to the show. Matt was a great cruise director, but you probably won't get him...his contract is up. So is the band that was there, but had to quit at midnight....only could catch a set of them because of the dinner issue. What is bad...everything else. The casino is horribly smoky and if you are sensitive to any smoking at all...stay away. I had an asthma attack on the ship after walking through the casino...they need to do something about this. Carnival failed on this ship and I spoke with dozens of people that had the same gripe. Probably won't book through carnival ever again. AND...big isn't always better. It's just filled with aggravation and disappointment

Huge disappointment and may have been the end to us cruising with Carnival!
