Chose to sail with AmaWaterways as they are one of the few cruise lines that sail in France's Bordeaux region. This was my first river cruise and every expectation was exceeded tenfold. This itinerary is fantastic as it is round-trip Bordeaux. The port stops have been thoughtfully executed to allow for the perfect balance between planned sightseeing (often several choices of sightseeing in each port) and free time to enjoy the luxuries of the beautiful AmaDolce. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this is the first year that Ama has been sailing on the Dordogne and Garrone rivers, everything went flawlessly! From the five-star onboard dinners to the choice of excursions including walking, gentle walking, bike tours and "limited edition" tours, I felt like the sightseeing I experienced was well-rounded and the local guides so incredibly knowledgeable. I also sailed on what Ama calls a wine-themed cruise. Really this cruise because of its stops and year-round offered excursions can be called a wine-lovers cruise, but I really loved the added benefit of a wine host onboard who compared the old vine wine that we tasted at several winery visits along with the onboard wine selections to new vine wine, in this case the California wines of St. Francis Winery. The service was phenomenal, I will say that there was not one request that was not met and the crew does a fantastic job at making sure that everything onboard feels like a home away from home. I also love that on a river cruise, everyone get to know everyone, and Ama facilitates plenty of opportunities, both on board and off, for guests to mix and mingle. I would highly recommend this river cruise line to anyone considering visiting the Bordeaux region of France. From what I've read they are extremely consistent in their delivery of fantastic itineraries all across Europe. I will say that I am not a river cruise advocate, I can't wait to sail with them again, this time I'm hoping on the Danube River.

I fell in love with Bordeaux and AmaWaterways.

This was one of two excursions that was offered and included in the cruise fare. Fantastic local guides and the wine museum in Bordeaux is a must-see!
