  3. Carnival Dream
Living in Orlando and close to 4 ports we drove to New Orleans for the first time to cruise with very dear friends that work on the Dream. This was our 14th cruise on Carnival and our 3rd on the Dream. Embarkation went smoothly, went to the Captain's lounge around 11 and was on the ship by 1130. Leaving the port of New Orleans was very different than leaving out of ports in Florida. Cruising down the Mississippi River for several hours was quite entertaining and scenic. Would definitely cruise out of New Orleans again but next time will fly in, not fond of that drive. The Dream is a nice ship but it definitely needs it's dry dock in February to catch up with the Breeze and Magic. No Alchemy Bar, Guy's Burger and other 2.0 upgrades but we knew that going on. We had the early dining and was out by 715 every night. We did see long wait lines and pagers for the my time dining and heard one couple tell the bar staff they have been waiting 40 minutes. Entertainment was good although we've seen most of the productions before but the Punchliner Comedy shows were good. The only negative is that they make you wait in line 30 to 40 minutes before the show to get in and the line goes all the way down the promenade on deck 5 past the piano bar and to the entrance of the Caliente dance club. Some people were in line not even knowing that they were waiting in line, they thought the promenade was just backed up because of the photographs that were being taken on the promenade for formal night. Only one staff member was at the entrance of the club telling people the end of the line is down the promenade by the night club. The club was always standing room only so they should think about moving these shows to a bigger venue where it will not cause so much chaos. Service was excellent everywhere on the ship although this was our first experience with the once a day room turn down. At first we didn't care for it but after 2 days we actually started liking the steward coming in the morning and not having to worry about him coming in again in the evening. Our first port was Costa Maya. We decided to leave the port area this time and catch a cab to downtown. Well that was the plan but you have to walk out the gate of the port where you join a total unorganized taxi area filled with tour sellers and an overall free for all to get a cab. It probably didn't help the 4 ships were in port that day including the Allure of the Seas. After about 30 minutes of this nonsense we went back to the ship and enjoyed a relaxing day at Serenity. In Cozumel we always go with our friends to this great restaurant downtown they found which I can't remember the name. Catching a taxi in Cozumel was a lot easier than in Costa. Disembarkation was the best we have ever seen. We chose to walk off with our luggage since we had a long drive home. We went to the designated dining room for Diamond and Platinum guest and were off the ship by 645 A.M. and on the road home by 715. Overall a great cruise with great friends.
