Celebrity Equinox Cruise Review by katwich
- Sail Date: December 2016
- Destination: Southern Caribbean
- Cabin Type: Concierge Class
Ship: Clean, well laid out, the voyage was constantly rough and I actually encountered sea sickness for the first time
Cabin: 1194 Concierge Class, our stateroom attendant was excellent, we were on the bump and had a bit larger balcony which we enjoyed. The daily canapes - much much better than Reflection, but would it kill them to give you two each since there are two of you in the stateroom...
Dining: Sadly the MDR was simply not good, the service was wonderful, but the food was not. They certainly have reduced the offerings, but most we sent back or just opted to not eat. The buffet was surprisingly good and though not varied - but you could sort out something decent to eat at that location. Tuscan: it was not worth the upcharge, we ate there a great deal on Reflection and it was good, but not so on the Equinox; Murano: Good, but we were greatly disappointed in the NYE offering, and were quite unhappy with the limited menu. Cafe B: Wonderful pastries and a nice stop for afternoon tea with wonderful service. Mast Grill: Good for quick, but the food is not good, so set expectations accordingly.
Entertainment: The shows & Entertainment are not what they once were certainly and we ended up leaving the majority of them
Activities: Everything seemed to revolve around "activities" to get you to spend money,in the spa, shops, I-lounge, etc. There was a movie and dance options, but they were limited. We do like the Glass Blowing. Would have preferred more information about the ports (beyond shopping); etc.; talks about ship operations limited or had to be purchased, demos by various chefs had to be purchased, talks about the ports that didn't involve shopping were lacking. Side note: We missed that Equinox did not show some of the later night entertainment we missed on the TV during the day like marriage wars - Reflection replayed some of the evening quiz shows, etc. which we loved - Equinox did not.
Service: Service was much improved from Reflection, we were able to obtain drinks easily, the bars, restaurants, stateroom were all excellent.
There were children on board - but we did not notice them
We loved the gastrobar - it was a nice addition, since Michaels has been moved to Suite Only - you do have to hunt about a bit to find a bar or location that provides beer, scotch or wine if you prefer more higher shelf options. We enjoyed the live music and would sit and listen/relax before and after dinner.

BarbadosThe diving in Barbados was some of the best we encountered on this cruise. It was boxing day so things were closed, unless you went through the Cruise Line. Overall it is a place we would like to go back to and explore, it is a beautiful island with very pleasant people.View All 1,520 Barbados Cruise Port Reviews

St. MaartenWe went over and checked out Maho - it was very crowded which is to be expected. The experience was fun overall - you do need to be careful with the taxi drivers as they can be very shifty, continue to look for the good ones and do not be taken advantage of - the price should go down as they fill up the van. There are lots of beaches and shopping options - it's fun to compare Dutch to the French - but beyond diving, beaches and shopping it's pretty limited.View All 4,728 St. Maarten Cruise Port Reviews
