Regal Princess Cruise Review by ty55
- Sail Date: December 2016
- Destination: Caribbean
- Cabin Type: Balcony
The staff were all outstanding, but what was disappointing to us was the food in the dining room and buffet. The dining room menu was limited and they did not have beef medalions on this cruise. There were lots of pasta and shrimp items most nights. We decided we would forego the dining room and eat only in the buffet. The first few nights the food on the buffet was excellent. It was fresh with good variety. Around the third night it began to go downhill. It was the same food recycled. Lots of curries and soups. By the end of this 11 day cruise the food did not look or taste appetizing. My husband loves breakfast and likes baked beans with his eggs and bacon, and he said the baked beans were even watered down and flavorless.
We also noticed a server at the hotdog and hamburger stall putting raw chicken on the grill and using the same gloved hand to then put the hotdog or hamburger together for the passengers.
We found out later on the cruise many people were ill with cold and flu yet they were not enforcing hand washing and we noticed many people never washed hands or used hand sanitizer.
Alfredos Piazzaria: Excellent. We went here instead of the buffet and dining room for lunch and dinner. The food was fresh and the servers excellent.
International Cafe: Excellent. Great for quick lunch or snack.
We did not try any of the speciality restaurants so cannot comment on them.
Entertainment: We are never blown away with entertainment on Princess and we found it to be the same on this cruise. Other cruise lines have far better entertainment.
We had a balcony cabin on deck 7 aft. Our room steward was great and we were pleased with our cabin.
We have always been so pleased with Princess and this is the first time we have experienced sub par food and cleanliness with food handling. This was an 11 day Christmas cruise. The ship was sold out and it seemed they were just not prepared to feed that amount of people. It reminded us of the food we would receive at a cuban resort. Sometimes the fruit would run out within one hour.
Would we cruise with Princess again? Not at the moment. Currently we will try other cruiselines.
