We chose this cruise because of the SE Asia destinations which sounded interesting. Embarkation was handled reasonably well, considering the number of people they have to handle. We've only done one cruise before on Dawn Princess, so only had that as a comparison. We didn't think the food choice at Horizon Court was good as Dawn P. Also, on Dawn P we could get a nice pizza at Sabatini's at no extra charge, this Sabatini's was one of the speciality restaurants, with the only pizzas available up on deck. Hardly conducive for a nice dinner. Food in the restaurants was OK. We also ate at the Japanese & Sterling Steakhouse speciality restaurants. Was disappointed in the latter. We were also pretty disappointed in the entertainment which was pretty average. Who wants to watch a group of singers/dancers sing half a song in cabaret style which all seemed to be the same. There weren't any subject expert lecturers, apart from the port expert whose presentations were long and dull. Pretty much the only things we took part in were the trivia sessions (there were LOTS of them). We were told on Dawn P that we could re-use our Princess memory stick for our ship photos. No deal, we were told when we asked - we had to buy a new one. So they didn't get any more of our business. The cruise was advertised as a 10 or 13 day cruise & we chose the latter, despite the fact that it returned to Singapore. Little did we realise that the cruises were actually divided into a 10 day, followed by a 3 day completely different cruise where the entire dynamic of the ship changed, particularly as many Singaporeans took advantage of a long weekend getaway. It was loud & crowded, with children playing in the public areas. And they repeated some of the restaurant menus which wasn't very appealing. In fact we really didn't enjoy the last 3 days at all. But, on the positive side, the food & service were good. If you stay away from the crowded areas, it was quite relaxing. We found the Wheelhouse Bar was very pleasant for a pre-dinner cocktail, mainly because there weren't many people there. The gym was good - only negative about that was they scheduled some spin classes for shore excursion days, rather than sea days, so in two cases we were the only attendees. We did some great shore excursions (with the exception of a dreadful day in Bangkok) and we satisfied our ambition to visit some interesting places.

Some good, some not so good

Cabin Review

Balcony
Cabin BF
Cabin was clean and in good condition, with a large walk in wardrobe. Small bathroom, but adequate.
Because the balconies were tiered, we looked down onto the balconies below, rather than being able to see all that was happening on the wharf. But glad the balconies on our deck had a roof.

This was by far the worst day of the cruise. Never, never, never will I return to Bangkok. Not only was the drive to the city long and tedious, we then spent the rest of the day in a continual traffic jam. The two temple visits were OK, but we were disappointed that the trip to the royal palace was cancelled because of the King's death. The palace was our initial reason for booking this tour.
We had a buffet lunch in a western hotel which was OK, but nothing special considering we were in Thailand. The trip along the river was OK but, as soon as we returned to the bus, it was yet more traffic. Our itinerary took us to a jewellery outlet which sold HIDEOUS items that were certainly not my taste.
Then back in the traffic jam to return to the ship. We even had a traffic jam trying to get into the port - and we were the last group to board the ship. Wonder why...

Cam Tower bit was interesting & OK. Then we had to walk to pick up our boat for the river cruise. Well, boat was more like an oversized tinny & not quite what I expected. We stopped along the way to be taken to a chap making pottery ovens - quite interesting. Then back to the boat where we were taken to a spot for some light refreshments of coconut milk & fruit. Quite pleasant. Last stop was the rural village where we looked into a house, then got back on the bus.
Guide was OK, but the whole excursion was somewhat underwhelming.

This was the best day of the cruise without doubt. Even the long 3 hour drive to the tunnels was OK as we viewed the varied landscape and the thousands of motor bikes on the road. We drove right through Saigon which was really interesting.
The tour of the tunnels was absolutely fascinating and our guide explained the extraordinary story really well. I even ventured into one of the (short section) tunnels myself - it was very difficult, but I'm glad I did it. Part of the tour was a traditional Vietnamese lunch at a riverside restaurant.
All up, a great day which I highly recommend.

Our guide was really good & gave us a really good overview of Malaysia, with suggestions about where we should go in KL. She even visited each person on the bus to see if we had any special questions to ask.
She was very clear about our meeting time & place at the end of the day.
KL is a nice city to visit. Lots of modern shopping centres, but some of the out of the way areas were worth the visit, especially China Town.
    Recommend this one.

We took a hop on/off bus here. It was very slow because of the traffic and, because we couldn't fit upstairs, we spent half of the trip facing backwards. When we finally got upstairs the view was better, but they don't have a running commentary, so we didn't get a lot out of it.
Penang has some interesting architecture, but it's not a place I'd rush back to.

This was a fabulous experience. Our tour guide was clear and informative as she explained not only the history of Singapore during the war, but she gave a great overview of life in Singapore.
We went to the Kranji War Memorial, the Changi Museum and another house on a hill which was the last location that fell to the Japanese in 1942.
All in all an excellent experience which I would highly recommend.
