*Fell in love with Thomson Crusing in 2014. This is now our 6th. *Satisfaction creeping up following early teething. *I have not cruised with other lines. *Thomson/Tui set stall out splashing out on this vessel. Sound investment *On meeting Skipper John (regularly visible around the ship-good sign) I couldn't resist saying 'You've nailed it'.For me, they have. *Embarkation busy but well organised. *First impressions excellent. Atrium the show stopper-hub of vessel spanning many floors-lifts to view the whole area. Decor smart. *Wayfinding excellent-electronic signs all over. Programmes also accessible on electronic displays. *You can also log into a/c on reception enabling booking meals etc without queueing Grub: *Mainly excellent. Islands is 'canteen' but it's very good. Gets busy-go at quieter times. Never failed to get a seat. Good variety. Hot. Staff all over the shop. 47 main free dining. Very good. Been grumbles re service and lack of wine waiters. Don't fret. You won't go short. We dine late so usually no queueing. If there's a wait you get a buzzer, go to atrium for fizz ...longest wait 10 mins=two glasses NOTE: Done away with skippers dinner but new idea works as not obliged to bling up.. most dressed to nines-most gents in at least a tie. BUT, still free dining so if you listen to the skipper's 'briefing' it's a free for all line to get in to the dining room. Still a good night but no bells and whistles. *Gallery 47 Italian flavour. Not my cup o' but still good variety. Good option. *Snack shack: superb for quick bite. Fish & chips. Chicken wings, sarnies. Relaxed outside eating. Excellent introduction. Sarnies boxed so you can take away *Glass House: pretty Q most of times. Trendy snacks & bar....no queueing! NOTE: Spoiler alert: in eve they do a tapas here. Romantic Q atmos, good quick service. No queue when we went. Tapas/pizzas etc. Recommended *Surf n' turf: paid supplement. Great grub & service BUT: £50 supp. No real DP wine, so £15 wine. Worth £65 extra? Also, great puds but no cheese-let down. Jury out for me. Bars: *Atrium excellent for all but great for elegant venue for bubbles. If busy, go round back to Live bar-usually quiet during day-return to atrium with drinks. *Live Bar & Venue both well served. Bar 11: The highlight for views and ambience. Excellent. Party time later on. My fave *Deck bars. Great & hub during day...pet hate... Service at circular bars can be frustrating. Wait 5 mins, punter strolls up on other side & gets served. Most punters polite & ask-some not so good! *Neg: drinks menus is a thing. There aren't any. Cynically: want you to guess and get premiums. Me: keep asking. You'll get one. Didn't buy one premium drink. Pos: drinks per card is pretty relaxed which is refreshing. No mickey taking but you can get 2 on one card for convenience (found Spirit this year a bit stifling). *Staff: first class. Hard working. Not getting the whining from reviewers. Always a smile & polite. Cabin staff great-as always. Bar staff working their gourds off. *Atmosphere excellent. Happy, sociable vibe. Met loads of great people-just shame they had to meet me *Capacity. Busy but never rammed. Loads of sunbeds. Food venues busy...at times you'd expect. *Enty/shows: great quality but not my bag. But loads of variety around ship throughout day and night. There will be something for you. *Upselling: slight neg. Much more prevalent. Mrs had treatment and they didn't stop rather spoiling experience. Around ship it's not aggressive just much more obvious. They got to get their money back somehow I know! Trips: Rome. Coliseum/Forum etc full day. Staggering. Would have done cruise just for this trip. One of best days of my life. WARNING: Check your tickets! We booked half day Pisa & wine (prefer half day gigs). Quick check 1st night, saw Pisa on tix, job done. On coach discover we're on a 10-hr Florence & Pisa following canx of ours-not told. Funny afterwards but not at time. *Embarkation messy & disorganised. Cases everywhere punters scrabbling over each other; but they got there eventually. When my Mrs says she wants to come back, things are very good. We loved the Disco and will be back. With a larger vessel some intimacy has been lost for me, but the atmos is excellent and attention to detail all there. Example: on others I knew the Cruise Director & team almost on 1st name terms. On here I didn't know who they were. This isn't a criticism-it's just a bigger ship with another few hundred on board! Met some wonderful characters and overall have superb memories. Job done 5 Stars!

Cabin Review

Cabin 7078
Superb. First time we've had a balcony and loved it. Few weeks before sailing we were in O/S balcony. Checked site & saw balconies had become standard. Rang em up and upgrade to de-luxe was £28. Good job. This cabin at central lift end of corridor so little walking but no noise. Loads of storage. Comfy. Cabin staff excellent as usual. Recommended.

  • Florence & Pisa Tour
Well this would have been a five..if we'd actually booked this trip. Booked Pisa/Wine 4 hrs (we prefer half days where available). Unbeknown ours had been canx & theyd kindly placed us here with no warning. Our 4 hr trip to Pisa was now 10 hrs. We'd had a quick scope of tix, seen Pisa & thought nothing else. At least we got to see Florence which was beautiful. If you like your history & architecture this is for you. Excellent guides. Pisa also worthwhile and tower itself much more attractive than I'd expected. Pisa is a bit of a one-trick pony though. See tower, have photo taken holding it up-job done. Really good day. MORAL: check tickets for accuracy....it was funny afterwards!

  • Rome (Civitavecchia)
As part of Colisseum trip. Some may find this a bit dulliver but I loved it. Imagining thousands of Romans meeting here each day. Large area, several buildings if note. Excellently preserved. A thrill!

  • Colosseum
Took trip including internal/external. Staggering. One of the best trips I've ever been on. Was told entry would be 1 1/2 hrs but took 10 mins. Can't recommend enough. Guided tour about 2 hrs. Excellent guide. History heaven
