We chose this cruise because of the wonderful itinerary. Malta, Cyprus and Israel were all new to us and having the chance to spend time in Rome after the cruise was a big factor in our decision. The Constellation is a very nice ship. Some of our fellow passengers felt it was getting worn looking, but we felt everything was in excellent condition and upscale. The food in the dining room was a big disappointment. Despite flowery descriptions of different sauces, it was mostly bland and like something you would get at a Dennys restaurant. The lobster night was good and there was always a New York sirloin steak on the menu if you didn't like the daily presentations. We felt that Celebrity nickel and dimed us to death for every little thing on the cruise. The lowest price wine in the dining room was $37 a bottle. When you added on the 18% gratuity, it brought it to over $40 a bottle and this was no great vintage, but a domestic California or Washington state wine. They sold bottles of wine in the buffet for $20, but you could not bring them to the dining room. Just another example of their trying to extort as much extra money from the passengers as they could. On sea days there was a general lack of things to do unless you wanted to pay for a wine tasting or cooking demonstration. As usual, pay to play! There was only one free movie on the tv every day, mostly old movies and movies for kids like Zootopia! Of course, pay to view had plenty for $14.95 each!! Really! The price for the cruise was low so I guess that Celebrity wanted to make up for that by all the extra charges. It was disappointing. I don't think we will be too quick to book with Celebrity again. Certainly Holland America and are superior. We had a balcony cabin and were pleased with the size of the room and the balcony. The shows put on by the dancers and singers were really good. There was an Italian singer who was excellent, but the comedian, Womack, was not very good and offended a good number of people in the audience with his critique of American politics. We did not feel that was appropriate from an Englishman. The ports were excellent. We did not do any of the ship's excursions as they were a lot more expensive thatn independent tours which were easily found on the web. The dining room service could have been better, but it was not the fault of the waiter and assistant waiter. We had a table of eleven and they also had to serve an additional table of twelve. It was simply too much for two people to handle efficiently. Some nights we waited over half an hour for our appetizers to arrive.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Ocean View with Balcony 2C
Cabin 2C 8007
The cabin was pretty much the standard for a balcony. We had a love seat, desk and one chair. I had a terrible back ache the first two nights from the soft mattress. They replaced it with a firmer one and that solved the problem. The beds didn't have the pillow top mattresses like some of the other cruise lines and were not as comfortable.

The bathroom seemed larger than usual and looked newly refurbished.
