Our cruise on AMA was great. It was Paris roundtrip, up the Seine and back. We visited the Normandy Beaches and several stops before and after. I have some negative observations below but none that would stop me from using AMA again. This was our first European river cruise (we did the Mississippi several years ago, and we've done several ocean cruises). We did not pay for AMA transfers. They had free shuttle service from their preferred hotel (Pullman Montparnasse) to the ship so we just showed up there and did not have to worry about a taxi driver finding the ships dock. (It seems the docking locations vary a lot). At the end of the cruise we took a taxi from the ship to the airport, arranged by the cruise director. So both ends worked perfectly. Taxi to or from CDG and the city was 55 Euros, a flat fare, plus a couple more for bags. The cabin was just as described. (I would not book a cabin on the lower deck with just a porthole - the French balcony is perfect). The bathroom and bedroom were fine but could have been better using the same space. Nowhere to put things down, just narrow little counters. There is plenty of potential using the same footprint. The shower controls are poorly placed - you can't set the temperature without getting wet with the initial blast of cold water. And it's hard to get in the shower without wetting the bathroom floor. OK, enough of that. Food - very good. Not like Regent Seven Seas, but very good. Dinner at 7 usually. (Didn't try the small second restaurant.) Breakfast and lunch very good buffets with some choices served by the waiter. Drinks - free beer and wine with lunch and dinner. At the bar drinks are good and quite reasonably priced. $5.50 for wine, $6.50 for cocktails. Laundry - by the staff only but also very fair prices. Staff - very friendly and efficient. I can't think of one complaint. Shore excursions - excellent. The tour guides were all great. Many tours required bus transportation and the busses and drivers were all great. Each guest gets a receiver and earphone to hear the guide. They worked great. I brought and used my own ear buds and I would encourage anyone to do that. Good for the airplane, too, better quality than the throw-away stuff. My only gripe - we would walk off the ship and no one was there directing us to the proper bus. Entertainment - We didn't use the lounge much after dinner. What I saw was fine for a lounge. One afternoon we had a great expert talk about WWII. October weather was chilly for the most part, but nice. All for now - I hope this is helpful.
