long time Carnival cruisers (platinum) but at $6k for this cruise (plus airfare and hotels) we were fairly underwhelmed with the new ship Dinner in the two main dining rooms were a disappointment - unlike even other cruise ship e've been on, these have the ambiance of a Denny's or Mac Donald - very plain and not what one would expect from the newest addition to the fleet - formica table tops - service was good - food was mostly just adequate - again not what we were expecting from this ship Burgers were good/taco/burrito bar also good (altho must be the only Mexican restaurant in the world that has no chips and salsa???)- seafood place for lunch - that you pay extra for was just plain awful. main Buffets were ok. New to Carnival was the option to purchase snacks - hot wings etc for the room - previously this was free? Calling the service desk from the room was impossible - even with the "special - platinum guest access number - we tried multiple times - made it through only once after remaining on hold for 20+ min Racked up 20,000 points between us at the Casino - this resulted in one comped dinner at the steakhouse ($60) - no wine or drinks included This 24% VAT (Greece??) charge applied to ALL purchases on the ship - including the stores !! - what happened to duty free???? - $8.25 for a beer - before any added gratuity We tried all of the "specialty " restaurants" at a charge that included both a 15% gratuity and a 24% VAT - adds 40% to your bill! - Steakhouse -excellent (went twice here - because dining room was not great - Asian - OK - Italian - very good - Chefs Table - awesome Fitness center had plenty of treadmills, a fair number of elliptical machines, but limited/single weight machines- no attendants - rather load rap or new wave music - probably not ideal for the crowd/age - TV's not working on any of the machines throughout the cruise - nor the heart rate monitors. No attendants Serenity Deck most often jammed - no seats - even finding two chairs together on a sea day was difficult. Don't waste your time/money on the laundry service - clothes came back "folded" in worse shape than when they left. They should provide talks on some of the sites/cities to be visited - would make for far more interesting shore excursions. one interesting observation was that unlike the carribean ports of call where you may have 3-6 ships in port at the same time, there was usually on one - and sometimes no other ships in port at the same time. Overall this cruise didn't live up to our expectations - nor justify the significant additional costs - we would not try a Carnival cruise in the Med again.
