  3. Carnival Splendor
We just got back from our Carnival Splendor cruise and it was great. It was our first time sailing on Carnvial and we were very pleased our experience. We are family of six - me, my husband and our four daugthers ages 17, 16, 11 and 9. We sailed from Miami to Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman and Cozumel. We flew in the same day that we sailed out. We got to Miami around 10:30am. From the airport, it was very easy to find a cab for 6 people. The port was not that far from the airport. The cab fare was $27 flat rate for all of us which was good. Once we got to the port, we were helped by one of the porters. I printed luggage tags but didn't print enough for all 7 of our luggages so he marked our bags and told us that he would take care of it. That went pretty smoothly. We then got in line to get into the carnival embarkation area. We had to go through US security first and show our passports. Once in the building, we had to go through another line to actually get our set sail cards to be printed and to be boarded on the ship. After our cards were printed, we had to wait for our zone to be called in order to get on the boat. I think we finally got on the boat around 1pm. We were all pretty hungry so we went to the buffet to have lunch. Our rooms weren't going to be ready until 1:30 so we were happy to go straight to the buffet. The buffet food wasn't bad overall. The food was tasty considering they were cooking so much food for so many people. I had some Italian food and Indian food on the first day. I had dessert after that. Overall the Lido deck food was not bad. There were so many choices to pick from and we literally ate too much on this trip. The line was always long for the Mongolian wok. It was also long for the grill. But I was able to try almost all of the different stations and I think that most of the food was good. I love ice cream so I was glad that they had soft serve ice cream available 24 hours a day. There were also plenty of desserts to choose from. There was just an abundance of food! One of the days they had a chocolate extravaganza at the buffet area and you can eat anything with chocolate that you wanted. It was chocolate lovers paradise! The dining room food was good as well. We ate breakfast almost all of the days in the dining room except for one day and we ate dinner there every night. There were so many options to choose from for appetizer, main course and dessert. You can even order multiple things if you want! Some nights they even brought us an extra main course so that we could try things. They even do a themed menu depending on what port your on. The sea day brunch menu wasn't bad. I think it was better than eating breakfast at the Lido deck. Eating breakfast at the Lido deck was crowded. We only did that one day and we decided that it was better to eat at the main dining room for breakfast. The one thing that we didn't like on the Lido deck breakfast area was the runny eggs. That was pretty gross. That's what made us decide to eat at the main dining room for breakfast all the other days. Breakfast wasn't bad at the main dining room. You have standard choices from pancakes, waffles, French toast, omelette and eggs Benedict. My girls and I loved the hot chocolate! We ordered it every morning! The entertainment and activities on the boat was okay. There were lots of choices of things to do but the one thing that I wish they would have done is to schedule them better. There were multiple activities that we wanted to do but some of the times overlap so we had to pick one or the other. But we tried a lot of different things - we watched the shows at the theater, watched the comedy shows, did trivia, watched some of the activities they had on the lido deck, etc. There were plenty of things to choose from. We also listen to some music on the splendor lobby since they had a band that played every night. They were pretty good singers and a lot of fun. My girls loved watching the performers at the theater. They sang a lot of different genres so there was really a variety of music for all ages to enjoy. They also did the hasbro games were they asked for audience participation and the love and marriage show. They were funny. We enjoyed Roman Murray who was one of the comedians. He was pretty funny. He's a comic from St. Louis which we are from Kansas City so we were happy to see a comedian from Missouri. My older girls didn't want to participate in the kids activities but they definitely had plenty of choices if they wanted to but my 9 year old did the camp carnival on the last day and she enjoyed it. She met new friends and they always had lots of different fun activities for all the different age groups. So overall the activities on the splendor was good. The one thing that I definitely wanted to highlight on this review was the service of the staff on the Carnival splendor. The service of all the staff on the boat was great! There were so many different nationalities on the boat but there were a lot of Filipinos! They were all so great! The staff constantly worked day and night to ensure that the guests have an enjoyable vacation. Eventhough they do this everyday for 6-7 months, they are still very happy people. The staff really went above and beyond to ensure that me and my family had a great time. The staff is really what makes this vacation great! I hope Carnival knows that these people are the reason why people keep coming back to cruise. The ports were all good. We didn't do any excursions from the boat. We scheduled our own excursions through outside companies. We really enjoyed Jamaica. We went to Dunns River Falls and the Blue Hole. We also went and had lunch at Scotches. That was some good Jamaican jerk food. We also were able to go around the island to go sight seeing and do a little bit of shopping. We even got to see Mic Jagger's house on the island. He had a nice view at the top of the mountain overlooking the ocean view. The view was breathtaking! At Grand Cayman we only did a beach day. We went to the Royal Palms resort to hang out and relax. We went around the port to get some souvenirs. In Cozumel, we had a private tour guide were we went around the island. I liked their port area because just from the port you can see a lot of stuff already. But we went to chocolate factory, Mayan ruins, coconuts restaurant and el mirador. Because we had a private tour we were able to see more of island. Disembarkation went smoothly as well. They tell you everything you need to know the day before. We decided to carry our own luggage off the boat so we didn't have to wait to go through customs. Overall we really enjoyed our cruise. It was our girls first time cruising and they loved every minute of it. This was me and my husband's second time cruising. We like cruising. This was our first longer cruise and I like it more than the shorter cruise. It gives you more time to enjoy the boat while still getting off the ports to explore it. We also had time to relax during the sea days so it was just perfect for us. We would definitely sail on Carnival again.

Cabin Review

Interior
Cabin 4D 2321
We had two interior cabins - one for me and my husband and another one for all four of our girls. The rooms were standard. We were really only in our rooms to sleep because we were usually out enjoying the ship. Our stateroom steward Joemar was great! He was very polite and very nice. He made sure we had clean towels everyday and the room was just very well maintained. He also made us cute towel animals every night. We were on deck 2 and it was quiet on that deck. We were pleased with our room.
