Left from Fort Lauderdale. Had a problem the night before. My purse was snatched while I was walking from my friend's room to my own. They got my money, credit cards, check books and personal items. Thankfully my Passport was in my suitcase. I had a safer purse to switch to once I started cruising but I should have used it in Fort Lauderdale. Thankfully my friends lent me cash and my sister put onboard charges on her credit card. My knees were banged up a little but I was not seriously hurt. Not a good experience and I have spent alot of time getting everything straightened out. Obviously they just wanted the money for nothing else has been used, thankfully. Embarkation went smoothly. We took a shuttle from our hotel and went through the process rather quickly. Then went to the Lido deck for lunch. Our coming on the ship group picture turned out fine. Our luggage arrived fairly quickly and we unpacked and got ready to go. We had 4 Superior Verandah Suites together and they opened up the verandahs so we could easily move back and forth. We were upgraded at the last minute for a little more money and the rooms were very nice and comfortable. I loved the separate shower and whirlpool tub. The first stop was at Holland America's "Half Moon Cay". It was a beautiful place. We opted for the clamshells and they came in handy. We took the eco-lagoon tour and really enjoyed it. The grilled/BBQ lunch was good and everything was immaculate. We could have stayed for days. We really enjoyed the entertainment on board. The singers/dancers were very good as were the other shows. Get there early for they run out of room. Several members of our party went to the cooking demonstrations and we joined together for Trivia at the Crow's Nest. There are some really comfortable chairs there that look out the back of the ship. Also, next door is the library, computer lounge which is very spacious and nice. They have crossword puzzles and regular puzzles there to work on as well. We ate at the Pinnacle Grill one night and it was certainly worth the extra $20.00 The food and service was very good and was one step up from the Vista Dining Room. We had early seating at the Vista Dining Room and really enjoyed the food and the service. We had no complaints. We came to get away from the winter weather and to be taken care of. That definitely happened and even though I had a problem in Fort Lauderdale the cruise was very memorable and enjoyable. Happy Cruising.

Cabin Review

Cabin 8091
We had no cabin problems. There was plenty of room. The stewards were great and the bathrooms were really large. It was very convenient to the Lido Buffet and pools.

We only had 5 hours in port. We arrived on a Sunday and alot of the shops were closed. We ran and shopped as we were told this was the place to shop. It isn't. Curacao is much better. We took a bus tour around the island and it was disappointing. The island itself is not as pretty as alot of others I have seen. There is alot of cactus and it just didn't appeal to us.

We loved this island. We took a tour bus to the Cas Abao Beach where my husband snorkelead I just enjoyed the lovely beach. It was not crowded and was in a beautiful cove. There were plenty of beach chairs and thatched umbrellas to use. There was also a bar/grill and a nice bath house. A good get away.

When we returned to the ship we went into town. It is very well maintained and a new area is just about completed. There are a lot of shops and roadside stands. There is a floating bridge to go to the othere side of the river or a free tug boat. Everyone liked it there.

We took the advice we read on Cruise Critic and contacted Okey Dokey tours. They have a website. They were waiting for us when we disembarked. We were escorted in a mini van and had our own personal guide, Carlos, and driver, Staton. We were able to go down roads the tour buses couldn't take. We walked through a small plantation/jungle area and saw many amazing plants and tasted fresh bananas and coconuts. We then went to the banana plantation and saw how bananas were grown, picked and processed. Then we visited with a sloth, took a trip on the canal in a small boat and went for lunch at the beach and ate a Costa Rican meal (grilled chicken, beans and rice, salad and fried plantains). On the way back Carlos took us to a Costa Rican grocery where he showed us the ingredients that were used in the meal. It was very good. We were gone 5-6 hours and it only cost $59 each. Quite a bargain.
