Pearl Mist Cruise Review by leaflady
- Sail Date: July 2015
- Destination: Canada & New England
Pearl Mist is not a luxurious ship but she is nice enough and she is comfortable. We were in cabin 515 and everything was fine. Beds were fine. The only complaint with the cabin was that the shower temp changed on its own.
Common areas were ok though it was crowded and hot in the lounge when we had our evening briefing to go over agenda and activities for the next day.
Food was tasty and portions were just right. Each menu offered red meat, non-red meat (generally fish or lobster) and vegetarian options. Wait staff were extremely sweet and accommodating. Service was fine. No complaints.
Best thing about the cruise -- excursions. We were in port every day and the ship is small enough that we were able to dock at all but two ports. Disembarkation was extremely easy. No need to stand in line to get some ticket. No crush to get off. Excursions were like everything else -- just fine. No long bus rides. No mad rush to see too many things. Easy and fun and free!
Fellow passengers were generally fun to be around. It is an older clientele but many were active and engaged and engaging. Most were extremely seasoned travelers and the sharing of experiences was quite enjoyable.
There was nothing jaw-dropping about the cruise or excursions but each day was pleasant and overall we had a really nice time. While the cruise was a little pricey, the price was all-inclusive (including excursions and liquor) so I think it was a good value.
I'd recommend the Pearl Seas line and this particular cruise (Canadian Maritimes and St Lawrence Seaway), esp for couples who are 60+. If you want lavish cabins, meals, and entertainment this is not for you. But if you can be happy having good food, getting to know interesting fellow travelers, and seeing gorgeous sights, in a comfortable and laid-back environment you should check this out.
