My wife and I booked the Viking river cruise in Europe for our 25th wedding anniversary and it turned out to be a bus tour of Europe! The river level was too high for the first four days so we couldn't leave Basel. Finally the river level went down slightly and we began moving. Yippee! Oops, we only went about thirty miles then found out that the lock workers were on strike so we couldn't pass through the locks. Dead in the water... More bus tours... So we didn't get the experience of the river cruise, didn't get to use our balcony that we paid extra for. To Viking's credit they tried hard to "make things right". But we did not get what we paid for, not even close. They knew about these risks beforehand but did not inform us beforehand. There's a lot of money at stake from their end but they now have some very unhappy customers which will cost them more in the long run. They offered us a puny credit toward a future cruise. This is unacceptable in our view. I am pointing all of this out to prospective and returning Viking customers so you know what you may be getting yourselves into. Understand that YOU bear the brunt of these risks before you sign up. Viking will always win, just like a casino. Happy travels.
