Disney Fantasy Cruise Review by Chrispy23
- Sail Date: February 2015
- Destination: Eastern Caribbean
My first Cruise was on the Disney Dream in September 2013. Now about a year and a half later we have sailed on the second of the Big Ships , The Disney Fantasy.
We arrived at the port from WDW Caribbean Beach resort via Disney Transportation. This I would not do again. The bus was fine it was clean and the service was excellent. However when you travel on Disney Buses you are on Disney itinerary. We could have gotten on the ship at 10:30 if we had made our own travel arrangements, but because we took the bus we arrived at about 2 pm. It was nice to have our room ready when we arrived. It was just more expensive and really the only advantage getting our big suit cases picked up the night before. Next time we will just book a van and save a few dollars and get to the ship earlier.
It took very little time to get through processing at the terminal and get onto the ship. Perhaps 35 or 40 minutes . That includes security, Check in and getting the security (Magic Band) for our daughter to go to the Oceaneers labs.
After the Welcome announcement in the main lobby we went directly to our stateroom 5536 Category 4A with over sized Veranda.
The room was spotlessly clean and the veranda was very big with 4 chairs and a table. 2 of the chairs were loungers.
It was very windy and raining when we left the port so the sail away party took place in the main lobby deck 3 mid-ship.
with 50 mph winds the sea was quite rough the first night and everyone looked drunk when walking down the hallways. This did not bother us but I am sure some people may have had some sea sickness.
On our second day at sea we had brunch at Palo. This was so good. A sea food lovers paradise with Crab legs, shrimp, lobster salad and Caviar. Do not worry if your not into seafood there is plenty of other great food as well. This is one of the best brunches we have ever had.
After the first night the winds calmed down and the trip to St.Maartin was great.
After 2.5 days at sea we arrived at St.Maartin. There were 4 ships at the port that day in Phillipsberg adding at least 12000 to 15000 more people to this small island.
We booked our own port adventure by renting a convertible Mustang from Coastal Car rental at the port.
We did a bit of shopping in Margot , then made our way to Orient Bay to relax on the beach and swim in the beautiful Caribbean ocean after a few hrs we started heading back to the ship but stopped for about an hour and a half at Maho Beach. This is a place that should not be missed. Located at the end of the islands international airport. Jet liners fly in extremely close to the beach. Just do a youtube search for Maho beach landing and you will see what I am talking about. St.Maartin was our favorite port.
The next day we arrived in San Juan. We slept in and rode the Aquaduck a number of times while most people were off the ship. Around 11am we left the ship to shop and explore and had a wonderful time.
We had one more day at sea before we arrived at Castaway Cay.
We had Brunch at Remy with a Champagne paring and it was amazing. We also had dinner at Palo the same day. This was a bit too much of a good thing. Service and food was absolutely incredible but it was too much. Take my advice and don't try and eat at both places on the same day.
Make sure you take in at least one of the Musicals our favorite was Aladdin.
We enjoyed spending time at Meridian , this is the bar that sites at the aft of the ship between Remy and Palo. It provides beautiful views of the wake of the ship as it sails.
We were very fortunate to have an amazing service team at our rotational dining. We loved both of the shows at Animators Palate. The Royal Palace was my favorite of the rotational dining and Cabanas for breakfast.
We also took FULL advantage of room service for coffee every morning and lunches and snacks through the whole trip. I tipped $5 every time and that seemed to make the people delivering our food happy.
