Having cruised a few times before, we were very happy with the NCL JEWEL. An older ship, but has been remodeled/updated recently. The ship holds around 2500 guests and about 1000 crew, I think. There are 14 decks.. But most of the activities is on 6-7,12-13. Embarkation was fine..standard security ,etc.. No real problems in Houston. Our room was fine..see below.. Food was good..and Plentiful! The Garden Cafe buffet had decent food..not fantastic..but they did vary the menu with themed nights. Tsars palace and Azura ..main dining rooms were fine also.. Freestyle cruising..eat anytime..never really had any long wait times to find a table. o'sheehans pub was also a nice change of pace diner..all those are included in price.. their Premium restaurants are nice! We only ate at Cagneys Steakhouse, on our anniversary.. Food there was Great! Highly recommend. The ship has a lot of options in eating. The lounges/bars were nice too. spinnaker lounge had great views of the water..and was spacious ! Some great game shows, etc.are held there! Dont miss the white hot party..tons of fun..and wear white! But the highlight of our trip was the Amazing shows in the Stardust Theater.. Don't miss one, if you go, because they are high production events. The Cruise Director, Jamie walker, is fantastic! She is very personable, helpful, funny, and amazingly she seemed to be at most events during the day! Great asset to the Ship! The pool area was nice, although I'm surprised it's not larger, as a lot of people congregate there during the day.. Ports were fun, especially the NCL Party atmosphere when boarding the ship! All in all, we had a Fantastic Vacation! Highly recommended for first timers, families, and those wanting to get away from the stress.. the. Jewel is Not a ship for those looking for lavish living, although I heard the Haven Suites are amazing! We will cruise again on NCL, for sure.

Fantastic Anniversary Cruise!

Cabin Review

Inside
Cabin ID 8533
Our inside cabin was small, but pleasantly surprising. For us two, we expected it to be small..the bathroom was a decent size area. Even the shower enclosure had plenty of room. No complaints on bathroom area. The closet was also large enough for our clothes..and plenty of drawers to store our clothes, out of the suitcase, which store under your bed. The beds and pillows were SOO comfy! Miss the great sleep on them.. Our cabin steward was friendly..and usually available when needed. Their towel animals were fun to guess the next nights animal! We did not do room service. The tv was fine, but limited on channels avail. Only complaint was Not Enough power outlets..only found 2.. Need more..or power strip..

  • Cave-Tubing
Our tour guide, Walter , met us at the port terminal, took us, and about 5 others, in a nice van. Toured the city some, on our way to the caves... We stopped at office to pay..which is a thatched roof area, and had a nice homemade lunch of chicken, rice, beans and Rum Punch! All included..as much as you want! We experienced a belizean rain storm there.. It poured, but only for a few minutes.. Then we went to the cave tubing area... The scenery was amazing,, like a movie set of Jurassic Park.. But it was all real! Walter knew all the plants and animals ..he was a fantastic guide! We did NOT carry our own tubes! as other companies do.?but our tubes were waiting close to the cave entrance. We had to cross a few rivers to get to the entrance. The water was REFRESHING.. We wore life jackets, hard helmets and a light on top, to see in the cave. SOOO COOL! The cave had bats nesting..and a waterfall inside! So dark without the lights on! Then a leisurely float back to where we started..so peaceful and quiet ! Highly recommend using cave tubing.bz! And ask for Walter !

  • Dolphin Swim & Encounter
Found a local taxi to get to park..about 10 miles away..for $12.. chunkanaab park is amazing. Right on the ocean! Tons of stuff to see and do.. Saw seal show, crocodiles and tons of wild iguanas roaming around. They have snorkel area.. and can kayak,etc.. All,included! Park entrance fee only $16! We had booked a Swim memories adventure..swimming with a dolphin! We were fitted with life jackets and made our way to the dolphin area.. We ere in a group of 8. Our leader, Jesse, was great. He made sure we all had plenty of time interacting with our dolphin, Louis. We did various interactions with the dolphin, but the highlights were going on a belly ride on dolphin..and being pushed..on a Bobbie board..by the dolphin.. Really fun. Pictures they took were great, which you can buy separately....for $ 30 per..OR get the Memories package..which includes a DVD of any/all pictures you want for only$ 40 more! Highly recommend ..if you want lots of pictures.. Afterwards were had a buffet lunch..also included in package! Fantastic time there.wish we had more time to snorkel,etc... Highly recommend! Don't miss the park!

  • The Belize Zoo
The Belize zoo is Small.. But only has animals from Belize! And the animals are SOO CLOSE to you.. Not far away like most zoos. our tour guide, Walter was very knowledgeable on native animals..we learned a lot. Unfortunately, we would have liked more time at the zoo.. Only there for 45-60 minutes.

  • Banana Coast (Trujillo)
Pleasantly surprised how beautiful the scenery is .. In Honduras. The view from our ship, anchored off Trujillo was amazing! We had to take tender boats to the dock. The Dock was filled with many vendors, where you can get great deals on souvenirs,etc... We had a great piña colada slushee there. The nearby beach was only a few steps away.. With an unbelievable warm ocean water! Got some great pics. Did not go further into town, as we do not get up very early to disembark. This is a new port for NCL, so don't expect a large tourist friendly town.. More laid back, easy going, relaxing.!
