This is only the second time that I have composed any dialogue regarding our many cruises around this unique planet. This cruise, on Regent SS "Explorer", was chosen by us more than two years ago. It takes a lot of discussion, a lot of planning, a lot of 'buyers' remorse, a lot of tender anticipation before deciding on the correct fit that an Ocean Going Cruise will make. Two years ago a significant birthday, for myself, was looming on the horizon and the two of us (TC2 and myself) wanted a cruise that would meet the requirements of that birthday. Since my birthday, by default, had two distinct dates ( another story, another time) the 2019 Explorer Cruise from Santiago to Los Angeles would be a perfect fit for both dates. Since we live in the northern area of the USA it can and does have very obtuse weather conditions during the winter. Our weather assumption, unfortunately, proved correct and caused us to change flights, incur unexpected hotel stays and invoke extra costs to an already expensive cruise. But, if we did not accomplish this we would never have reached the ship on time for embarkation. Taxi scams at the Santiago Airport added more frustration to our journey and being 'World travelers' we should have known better. The flight from Dallas/Fort Worth to Santiago, Chile. was made on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Comfortable and on time flight but we would never have made that flight had we not changed out flight from Vancouver to be one day earlier. However, our luggage arrived with us and having that not happen more than once, we were surprised. Boarding the "Explorer" ship and climbing the gangway to be greeted with a Champagne "Welcome Aboard" is always exciting, even though we have done this so many times. We have told each other, "do not take it for granted". We were, indeed, fortunate to obtain a 'Master Suite' due to a last minute 'upsell' which we offered to accept. It is a fine example of what Regent can put into a luxury ship. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms (one full) and a deck that commands more than 180 degree view as well as an expanse that would accommodate a Rothchild party. Put this together with Butler Service and it would be hard to find an equal. It just so happened that the "Discovery Channel" camera crew were on board with us filming for one of their episodes of "Mighty Cruise Ships". In order to cover the complete ship they need to film a Butler served dinner service en Suite. We were innocently chosen to be the couple that was provided this service. The episode will not air for about eights months but it certainly should be interesting and also give a boost to Regent. The Discovery Channel film crew attended my birthday get together. Balloons, festoons and canapes together with a full Marzipan cake for me and an Opera cake for TC2, baked by the Regent Pastry chef, all made it a Happy Birthday and unforgettable memorable occasion. The crew is always our second family and we look forward to greeting each one of them on our regular Regent cruises. General Manager, Massimo, met and greeted us as we boarded the ship and made sure that attention, care, service and safety were all prime. We particularly enjoyed being invited to an Explorer Suite on Deck Eight where we met and became extremely close with the guest of that suite. We also were fortunate to join, for cocktails in the Explorer Lounge, two outstanding guests, 'Master and Madame Echo'. I would like to comment on some items that Master Echo has reported on in his cruise critic review. 1) Electric cut off when you leave the suite. This items is about par for most hotels. I presume it is a method of conservation. However, since the ship provides its' own electricity you would think it is not necessary. It is most likely a safety item especially for batteries and chargers that are left plugged in. Because we don't want to keep putting the card key into the slot each time we enter we chooses to use either a cardboard or stiff paper insert and leave it is as long as we "own' the suite. It works fine for us. 2) Cabin cleanliness. I was surprised to learn that some funnel smut had collected in the room and also that a solitary and wayward grape had not been cleaned away. For our own experience we have found housekeeping to be above par but understand that some items can be missed. Where's that 'white' glove? 3) Vibration. Like individuals, we are different. So it goes for ships. We expected big things from Explorer when she came out. "This one is not going to vibrate and she is not going to have dischordent frequencies. She is going to be so stable you won't know your on a cruise!" Obviously not so. Every ship, again like ourselves has its' idiosyncrasies. They all creak, they all sway and they all have haunting vibrations. A super example of this is the "Navigator". It has always had problems. They have 'fixed' it several times, but it still has problems. If you 'fix' one frequency in one place it transfers to another. That is the ship world. Given the amount of weight on the Explorer, with glass, marble alloyed Prayer Wheels, etc. etc. it is a wonder that she even got our of Italy. 3) Water quality. Water quality on the ship is always a concern. It is conserved and osmetically re-cycled. Problems to emanate from rusty boilers but while it is unsightly it does affect the cleaning power. Personally, I found the shower water to be so clean that it left my shampoo squeaky clean. Most people do not realise that 'conditioners' change the structure off the hair and eradicate its' history. I do not think you can get away without putting chlorine into a swimming pool. It is ubiquidous. I found the Infinity Pool to be quite strong with this additive. 4) Gratuities. Regent classifies itself as "All Inclusive". Therefore you should never have to dig into your pocket for anything. Coming from the U.K. I am very stingy. I work for my money, I get a salary, I do expect anything else. The early coffee house in Britain in the 17th Century gave rise to the TIP. (To Insure Promptness) It has now grown, due mainly to American influence, some that is not just expected but demanded. It seems that if you do not give a 'Tip' you are embarrassed and the worker relies on this embarrassment. Regent contracts their employees. Their employees get paid well for what they do. Nowhere in the contract does it say, "Thou shalt receive a tip or extra awards for doing your job". Should you wish to contribute to a crew 'welfare' fund then do so, but you can do it without be embarrassed by it. I was extremely upset to see a head-waiter canvassing every table in Compass Rose, on the penultimate night, shaking hands with each customer and instructing them to make note of his name in the 'Comments' report. It was also noted that some exchange of dollars was taking place. 5) Explorations. The Ships' Destination Services has historical problems. Each of the port and each of the tours brings it's own problem. Dealing with contractor busses, variable languages, countries, ethnicities, safety, reliability, comfort, needs a lot of tact and experience. Transform this into on-board guests who always want to be first in the line at the supermarket and it can be a bee-hive to avoid. But, seeing the world and it's history is why we cruise. Patience! 6) Internet. On board Internet is almost a permanent failure. Contacting Satellites hovering 25,000 miles above the Earth is expected but cannot always be justified. Nature is, however always present. Climate, Gravity, Sun Spots and a myriad of galactic and global influences have a big influence on our Internet system. Just like the movies, we expect instant response but even electricity takes time to get from one place to another. Again, it pays to be patient and through in a little levity. I just wait until I get home. Just a word or two on Dining. The Pacific Rim on Explorer was a new and exciting addition. Being our fifth cruise on Explorer we had eaten in Pacific Rim several times. It took us four or five of those visits to finally grasp what the menu is about. Now, when we attend, we know what it is that we like and we have adjusted ourselves to the Asian Infusion method that type of cuisine. Service is always impeccable as provided by mostly Russian servers. Read Less

Relaxation in luxury. Although far more expensive than some of its competitors I believe this cruise line gives value for money. Its detail tp the design of the cabins are well thought out with loads of space even for the most discerning traveller. The entertainment was first class and was viewed in total comfort of individual seats, if one so wished. Tables around the seats allowed for your drinks to be within easy reach. The theatre offered good views of the stage no matter where you sat. The specialty restaurants were diverse and true to their character. Swimming pool of a reasonable size for a cruise ship. On the top deck there was a mini golf and various other ways to entertain oneself if not desiring to sunbath. An amazing amount of sunbeds which well cared for by diligent willing staff. Personally, would travel with Regent Cruise line again should the opportunity present itself. I have no reservation recommending this cruise line. Read Less

This was our first ocean cruise, but I am sure that it cannot get any better than this cruise experience on Regent Explorer. We stayed in a Penthouse A suite (917), which is beautiful and very functional room, with a huge balcony. The walk-in closet in the Penthouse suite is a bit small, but we still managed to fit the contents of two big suitcases into to it without any problem. The empty suitcases can conveniently be stored under the bed. The shower cabin is absolutely fantastic and so is the quality of the bed. We arrived at the pier in Rio de Janeiro for embarkation at around 1:30pm and we were onboard 15 minutes later. Everything was so well organised, and it continued like that throughout the cruise. The cruise was fully booked, but the only time it felt crowded was upon embarkation when everyone was having lunch in the Veranda/Pool restaurants, but after the suites became available, it never felt crowded again. We initially didn't really know what to use the butler for, but he turned out to be extremely helpful and useful. He really made us feel special and pampered. He served a couple of breakfast on our terrace, which was a wonderful way to start the day. We were generally totally amazed by the service, which is very attentive and rather personal. During our 12 nights cruise from Rio de Janeiro to Buenos Aires, we had three dinners in each of the restaurants Compass Rose, Prime 7, Pacific Rim and Chartreuse. We also had several lunches in the speciality restaurants. The food was generally very good to excellent. We were not fans of Sette Mare/La Veranda, as the place looks a bit like a canteen. Furthermore, we were not impressed by the breakfast, which was exactly the same every day and some of products were rather cheap/industrial, and the fruit was often unripe. We are in our early fifties and were surprised to be among a relatively young crowd without a single wheelchair or rollator onboard, perhaps because the cruise included many anchor ports. Some of the ports of call were great, while some were very forgettable. The same goes for the excursions. We had two fantastic biking trips. We don't really care about the shows, lecturers etc., so I will not comment on that. We used the gym daily, which was really great, spacious and lots of equipment. I also had two nice massages in the spa. The weather was hot and sunny throughout the cruise, but it was surprisingly easy to get sun-loungers around the pool. Only on our single sea day, it became rather busy. The ship is absolutely gorgeous and in perfect condition. The all-inclusive concept is really great, but also a little dangerous as we definitely ended up eating and drinking too ;-) We loved our first ocean cruise experience and now look forward to the next on Regent Splendor. We chose this cruise the very first day it came out. We'd done North Africa and wanted to do South Africa with a pre-cruise safari. Regent did a fantastic job providing us with a Shamwari 5 Star game resort where we were so lucky to have seen and photographed a leopard and a white rhino at sunset against a setting sun. Our suite onboard was very convenient to the elevators and our cabin attendant was so attentive. The food was fantastic as well as the musicals. The weather however proved a bit of a disappointment as we had to forgo a port in Nambibia and Mozambique. Internet service was problematic and the food too salty. Salt shakers are on every table so why not use those? The only disappointment was the awlful air routing to and from Cape Town that resulted in 10+hours spent in Lufthansa's Frankfort's lounge going and coming. This was our third Regent cruise and the second one with Captain Serena who is an outstanding, vivacious captain. Spending Christmas, New Year's Eve and New Years Day was truly one of our most memorable cruises. The 1600 photos we took are indeed a photographer's dream come true. Read Less

We had heard of regent cruise thought we should check it out. The ship was in great shape having been recently remodeled. We had a large room, probably too large but it was nice We had a butler who was very attentive and met all of our needs. While we are not foodies per se the food was more than acceptable. The options for the food were extensive. We had canapés brought to our suite nightly. Our suite was stocked with favorite adult beverages ranging from beer to out desired alcohol. Off boat excursions were plentiful and for the most part included. We were somewhat disappointed that the ship left port at either 5 or 6 nightly. We would have liked to spend an evening in the casino at Monte Carlo or had some local food at say Sicily or Capri. The distances were such that they appeared to be close enough to depart a bit later. We thought that the attentiveness and dedication of the staff was above most other cruises we have been on. They were very attentive and we anxious to make everyone happy. The dining selections included steak .italian, salad bar,Asian and French. Poolside grill was always a good place to have a small dinner. One observation which was rather curious. The ship was 40% Asian. Regent we were told, has changed focus and is now marketing their product to the chinese populous. Rather interesting we were sitting with a couple from Hong Kong. They were not pleased for they had talked to mainline chinese and had found out that these people had paid 40% less than they paid. As a result of the concentration of the chineses it was felt that the food was more focused on their needs than on other cruises, unfortunately the mainline folks are more of a rush and don’t respect ques or lines. Funny the Hong Kong Chinese had a bigger problem with the mainline folks than the rest of us. I will look into this new focus on the part of Regent to find out if this is in fact the case. If so this may influence our future choices. Entertainment was more on the site of mediocre. After 2 shows we just decided to skip. Read Less

Excellent cruise. Major issue with significant food allergy management at start but response from three people ( restaurant manager, dining reservation staff member and head waiter in Compass Rose ) completely resolved situation and ensured a smooth and seamless service for the remainder of cruise. This was professionalism at its best in this setting. Really no strong complaints about anything significant. Attention to refilling cabin minibar with requested drinks could have been better but otherwise cabin service very quick and responsive. Quite a noisy atmosphere in all dining areas ( guests ). Service excellent. Food superb and very varied. The general decor quite subdued and frankly dark in areas- may suit some and not others. Entertainment average as billed so did not avail ourselves. Would have appreciated more guest entertainers with perhaps opera / classical rather than just a film! Viewing from upstairs in theatre difficult as restricted by barriers Would certainly consider going again with this line. Read Less

We had a marvelous time on this cruise. It was our first time on the Explorer, after having sailed on the Voyager (once) and the Navigator (World Cruise 2017 and Cape Town to Rio 2018). Things got off to a bit of a rough start at the Copenhagen Marriott. The morning of embarkation the restaurant was swamped with a very long line for breakfast, and bus #1 delivered us to the wrong ship in the port! It was easily rectified as the Explorer was right next door. We loved the itinerary, even though it was port intensive. Every day was a new adventure! We especially liked our 3 days in Saint Petersburg, including the Grand Imperial Evening of the Tsars, and the fact that we hired a private guide and driver for day 2. The Senior Officers included Serena Melani, Captain; Davor Josipovic, General Manager; Food and Beverage Director Stephane Carriou, Cruise Director Andy Heath, and his wife Tammy, Social Hostess. All were excellent in their jobs. This was our first time sailing with Captain Serena. She was very personable and often seen talking and mingling with the passengers. It was also our first time sailing with Andy and Tammy. They are a great team, always positive, and very talented! Loved their shows, especially The Beatles! We also enjoyed our class in the Culinary Kitchen, "Gone Fishing", taught by Linda Miller, a CIA in Hyde Park graduate. It was lots of fun, very informative, and delicious! Terry Bishop, Lecturer and Performer, was also terrific. We had the pleasure of meeting Terry on the World Cruise, and he can do it all! Lecture, sing, play the guitar, tell stories; always entertaining! The Production Cast was great, very talented! We have seen World Beat about 5 times now, and we think this was the best one yet! Other shows we saw with them performing were My Revolution and Paradis. Destination Services did a great job in getting us off on excursions in a timely manner. All were very helpful and pleasant. The ship is beautiful and we really enjoyed sampling some newer (to us) restaurants. Pacific Rim was great, and we also enjoyed Chartreuse. La Veranda/Sette Mari was a disappointment esthetically. It felt more like a large cafeteria. We really prefer this space on the Navigator. Read Less

Have sailed with Regent several times and this was one of the best. Really enjoyed that we went to very different and more undiscovered ports. In two of the new ports it was apparent they don't see many ships and we had local marching bands presenting farewell band sendoffs. Crew is very well trained and very helpful Food was very varied and excellent. . The new approach to French food is an important update. The Asian restaurant did wonderful tempura soft shell crabs. Compass Rose works perfectly. No matter how many guests arrive at the same time the team manages to handle it gracefully and quickly. We were all worried when NCL took over one of our favorite vacation companies. Things have changed but overall it appears they have worked hard to keep standards high. Guests seemed very happy and I never heard the grumbling and complaining you often here on cruise ships Read Less

Honestly, I choose Seven Seas because of the business class airfare being included. This ship is so beautiful! I haven't been on all cruise ships so i don't know but I would guess this is the most beautiful ship on the Seas. The employees (service) is five star. The food amazing and the cabin, how can I even begin to explain how beautiful our cabin was. So much storage, no way could we use all the drawers. The bathroom and closet were outstanding. Not sure why anyone needs a tub on a cruise, but if you do there is one there. We spent as much time as possible on the veranda. It was large and so comfortable. The entertainers at night were Las Vegas quality. There was a great variety of shore excursions and we enjoyed each and everyone. I don't personally think this is a ship for children, but just my thoughts. It was very expensive and that being said I want to save to go again, it was the best vacation ever! They really should have cold medicine aboard and easy to purchase at all times day and night and even in port. They only negative. Read Less

After reading reviews about this ship we were eager to experience it for ourselves. Regent Seven Seas exceeded our expectations from our first phone call to the company. All our questions were answered and desires met. From first contact we were impressed with the efficiency in meeting and exceeding our expectations. The ship is a floating work of Art and engineering masterpiece. Pictures of the ship are beautiful, but it must be experienced in person to really capture all that it is. Our F1 suite, 937, was clean and quiet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_XnNsOBeGw Watch video for details. Suites that end in a 7 have pull-out couches to easily accommodate a 3rd occupant. We normally are Independence travelers; not usually going on cruise line shore excursions. However, this trip we participated on at least one ship excursion per port including a fishing trip, that cost us a reasonable $129 per person. Enjoying the informative, comfortable excursions were a highlight of our adventure. We liked the excursions so much that we often went on two a day. Our luggage was delayed by the airline, for three days, transferring from Copenhagen to Oslo. Chris at reception and his team went above and beyond with a sympathetic ear, complimentary overnight laundry, toiletries, toothbrushes, razors, etc., and I much appreciated 25% discount to purchase clothing from their gift shop. My husband picked out a beautiful dress for me to wear to dinner. We had our insurance agent calling the airline daily as well as my husband also made several calls a day inquiring about our luggage, but I believe we got our luggage because ship staff went to the airport in Copenhagen to pick up ours and twelve other passengers luggage. It is important that I mention that ship personnel did this for us even though we booked our own air. Thank you Chris for saving the day! Entertainment: full disclosure, we do not ordinarily go out after dinner, preferring to sit on our balcony and watch the ever changing scenery pass by while we plan for the upcoming days adventures. We did however enjoy the comedy show. Dining, oh the food, everything and anything my heart desired, ordering on or off the menu. Attention to detail was evident down to the Versace table setting and Chihuli Glass Chandelier and art. Service: Attentive and unobtrusive. All staff seemed truly joyful, smiling as they worked, sharing in conversation when appropriate, having an ability to read us, anticipating our desires and needs, learning our names by day two, recalling our favorite beverage. This was consistent as we did not dine in the same restaurant two nights in a row. How they knew to recommend fish dishes to me and meat dishes to my husband is a secret that I cannot figure out. Their recommendations were spot on. I recommend Regent to the seasoned sophisticated traveler who appreciates fine dining, art and who believes that the journey is as important as the destination. Bridge players and trivia enthusiasts made up a good portion of passengers. There were a few families with teenage children and I saw one family with much younger children at the end of our cruise. A childrens' program was available. We are a couple in our 50's traveling without children so I cannot advice on suitability for families with children. Read Less

No fog no rain. Perfect trip! Staff is getting ur every need before you ask. Also dancers excellent. Professional shows worth going to. Rooms had large size balancies of which a lounger and two chairs fit. Along with a table. We ate bfast and dinners on our patio. We ordered from compass rose and had incredible view while dining they the fjords. Lots of energy with all the staff. Room steward was excellent. As everything we asked for he immediately got it for us! My favorite thing was the daily excursions. Very interesting choices to pick from! Worth paying the extra to upgrade on some of the higher level excursions. Over all 6 stars. We have been on mariner, navigator and explorer is definetly the best and the newest! Read Less

We took a our first cruise on Regent in May from Lisbon to London and we were blown away. We have taken Crystal in the past on some 15 cruises, and now we find ourselves remiss for patronizing a good cruise line (Crystal) when there was such a much finer cruise line (Regent) out there. Regent beats Crystal in room quality, service, staff, food, athletic facility, spa, public areas, embarkment, and in a very big way, in excursions. Crystal does have better entertainment, but overall this is a minor item to us. Further, Regent is not as pretentious as Crystal by declaring itself the "best" cruise line, and Regent does not push purchasing photos at every conceivable instance as Crystal always does. And even the passengers on Regent appear to be more polished and polite than those we have encountered on recent Crystal ships. Perhaps Crystal is yesterday's cruise line, but Regent is today's. Special compliments to the Regent's ship management. The attendants for the rooms were almost invisible, yet their job was always complete in a timely manner. Similarly, we were treated excellently by the food mangers in the various restaurants. Our favorite restaurant was Prime with the bone-in ribeye. Every excursion seemed better than the one before! Went with friends. Wanted to cruise on a ship with adults, not a party ship. Expensive, but worth the cost if you demand quality. Only drawback was poor wi-fi service that only allowed one user and one device at a time. However, the staff were friendly and gracious and the food was to die for. The ship itself was beautiful and very well maintained. The included tours were of varying quality. WE took some and other times explored on our own. The entertainment was much better than we had anticipated with a variety of kinds of shows. The stateroom was wonderfully designed with a great amount of storage. An added bonus was free laundry and dry cleaning which we used often. This is not a ship where passengers stay up and drink through the night, though dancing and other entertainment is available until midnight. Take this ship if you want an elegant and relaxing experience. Read Less

This cruiseline was recommended by friends and from the very beginning we were struck by the attention to detail on the part of our AMERICAN Airline agent, Brian Mitchell. While on the pricey side, it was good not to have to worry about extra charges for drinks, tours and tips. The ship is beautifully decorated and has original art throughout. Dining was enjoyable and permitted lingering over deserts and cappuccino. We enjoyed the Prime 7 specialty restaurant the most where service was impeccable and our servings were exquisite. Breakfast and lunches were most often taken in La Veranda where there were multiple buffet choices. If we wanted somethhing we did not see, the staff went out of their way to accommodate. By the end of our week cruise, some staff recognized us and remembered our seating and drink preferences - especially in the Observation Lounge. Entertainment was fun and targeted to Boomers, who seemed to comprise most of the passengers. Tours were scheduled daily and usually involved time on a boat or bus, with informed guides describing history, culture and architecture of where we were. We decided to cancel several tours and go it on our own by hopping on a bus or tender that dropped us off at what would be our pick up point as well. That allowed us to find our own pace and to spend a bit more time on board relaxing. Next time we would not sign up for daily tours. Yes, we would go again. This was a special experience. Read Less

From the cabins to the restaurants this ship and the overall experience lived up to our expectations, going to be difficult to cruise with anyone else. The service was terrific just attentive enough without being too much. We booked the entry level veranda cabin which size wise was similar to a balcony cabin on HAL or Celebrity but the fit and finish of the room ( especially the comfort of the bed) was far beyond other ships we have sailed with. No problem getting reservations in specialty restaurants and all lived up to the reviews, at least one of these restaurants also open at lunch each day which was very nice too Lots of entertainment on board and especially loved the lounges We pre- booked the included shore excursions online but also had no trouble making a change once on board Cant go wrong if you book with Regent we will go with them again if we can find the right trip Read Less

I wanted to try Regent's new ship Explorer and the transatlantic crossing gave me lots of sea days to explore the ship. We also had some interesting ports of call in Madeira and Spain. We flew into Miami on our own and used a hotel shuttle to get to the cruise port. Very easy and economical. First time I've been on a ship that joined in a search and rescue for a passenger overboard.The captain and cruise director kept us informed of what was going on as several cruise ships joined in searching the grid along with Coast Guard out of Spain. Fortunately it was not one of our ship passengers or crew. The search was not successful and was called off after about 12 hours as odds of surviving that long in the cold water were not feasible. Service was excellent everywhere. Disappointed that the onboard lecture series did not exist, especially with so many sea days. When I inquired they told me the lecturer had to cancel at the last minute. I think they should have tried to come up with something. New layout of cabins on this ship and decided it was worth it to upgrade to the lowest level concierge. They actually turn the cabin so the bed looks out through the balcony doors instead of a blank wall. Dining was excellent. Prime 7 layout is huge. Chartreuse wall banquets are not meant to hold people.. Read Less

Everything about this cruise was amazing and exceeded our expectations in every way. The ship, the service, the cabin, the fine dining, the casual dining, the pool area, the entertainment and shore excursions were all as described or better! My favourite restaurants were Prime 7 and Compass Rose, which does not require a booking and is also fabulous for a 'posh' breakfast! A free shore excursion not to be missed is the Mallorca Wine Tasting & Spanish Tapas. The visit to the Bodega Ribas winery is simply exceptional and was hosted by a female staff member who spoke perfect, clear English and enthralled us all with her humour, passion and knowledge! The winery tour was followed by a sit down wine-tasting accompanied by a delicious tapas of bread, olive oil, olives, meats etc.in an original stone house circa 1711! The presentation was gorgeous... the tables were beautifully set and adorned with white linen, silver cutlery and fine glassware. We found the cruise to be exceptional value, even the washing and ironing was an extra freebie. We also had to request a 2nd internet log-in (due to a work issue that we both needed to work on at the same time) and this was provided to us at no extra cost even though it was not included in our fare. We recommend this cruise/ship to others and are already planning our next cruise with Regent Seven Seas Cruises! Read Less

We had the best experience on the Explorer. The food was spectacular, especially in Pacific Rim, the staff in Pacific Rim were excellent, experienced, humorous, knowledgeable, just plain classy. Every restaurants food was very good, Prime 7, had the best steak, the chefs presentation was beautiful in every restaurant. The spa was beautiful, the staff there was also very polite, and knowledgeable. Love the steam room, ice room, & sauna, then into infinity pool was over the top classy. Housekeeping was excellent, always received what we asked for. Entertainment was as classy as ever, so much talent. We especially loved Kesha & Boogy. Bar staff was very pleasant always willing to get us any drink we asked for. Very satisfied with the ports and excursions. The art work on the ship made you feel like you were in a high scale hotel (beautiful). Only complaint (they ran out of Bud Light Read Less

When Regent announced the launching of a new ship several years ago, like most Regent cruisers, my wife and I were very excited, and had cruises booked on it for September of 2016 and March 2017. Life intervened, and we had to cancel both of these cruises. So when we were finally able to book another cruise on it, we were chomping at the bit to experience it, wondering whether our high expectations would be met. Clearly from the title of this review, they were... although with a bit of an asterisk. The ship- Regent hypes this ship as "World's Most Luxurious Ship". As I have not been on every cruise ship in the world, I cannot validate this statement, but if there is a more beautiful ship at sea, I would love to see it. The ship is, in a word, breathtakingly beautiful. OK, 2 words. But I cannot say enough about how impressive this ship is. Prior to this voyage, I thought the most elegant ships I have sailed on were Oceana's Riviera/ Marina, but I think the Explorer has them beat. From the stunning atrium, to each and every restaurant, lounge, theater..even the men's rooms were beautiful. (And I assume the same for the ladies' room, although I have no first hand knowledge of such and will take DW's word for it. ) The hallways of stateroom decks have lovely black and white photographs. The ship is a pleasure to walk around on. Cuisine- I have long been a fan of Regent cuisine, but I am now an even bigger fan. Every cruise line's main dining rooms offer "always available" items, usually steak, chicken, salmon, and perhaps a vegetarian dish. , The main dining room on Regent,, Compass Rose, now offers as always available: Meats: Black Angus New York Strip, Black Angus Rib Eye. Black Angus Filet Mignon, New Zealand Lamb Chops, Veal Medallions, Half Roast Chicken, Pork Chops Fish: Jumbo Shrimp, Maine Lobster Tail(!!) , King Sea Scallops, Norwegian Salmon, Whole Dover Sole(!!), Branzino. With a cornucopia of sauces and sides to mix and match with them. AND with a whole array of appetizers, soups, salads, such as crab salad, Norwegian gravilax, escargot....well, you get the idea. So in the unlikely event that there is nothing on the daily menu that sounds tempting, you can order something wonderful from the always available menu. For me, this is a game changer. No more checking the daily menu and having to try for a specialty restaurant reservation if there is nothing to your liking. The only problem- major difficult decisions need to be made every single night! Life is tough. Speaking of specialty restaurants, the Explorer has 4 of them, and IMHO, all are superb. Entertainment- Several years ago, Regent changed the company that managed the entertainment talent and production shows, and I must say that for us it is a change for the better. The talent of the singers and dancers has always been wonderful, but the production shows are at a new level. They are inventive, and creative, not typical cruise ship fare. And the LED backdrops and lighting in the Constellation Theater adds greatly to the enjoyment of the show. The only downside- it seems to me that the sightlines of the theater do not seem to be quite as good as I remember them being on the other Regent ships, but we never had any problem getting seats, provided that we got there at least 10 minutes ahead. There is nice entertainment in the lounges, the Regent Signature Orchestra for ballroom, a pianist, Deborah, who has a lovely voice, and our very favorite Regent talent, Boogie and Kasia, who played 2 or 3 sets every night in the Explorer lounge. Their later set provides great fast dancing music, and the delightful Kasia gets down on the dance floor and really gets the crowd dancing. Internet- The ship had the least horrible internet experience I have had on a cruise ship to date. I guess that's as good as one can expect at sea. Sure, it was still painfully slow, but the agony was far less than I have experienced in the past. Service much better in public areas than in my state room, where it was truly agonizing. Log in and out was a breeze, and my wife and I were both able to be on at the same time. Gym- best I have ever seen on a ship. When I first walked in, I did not see any treadmills in this rather large gym, only to find out that there was another room, separated by a hallway. Plenty of cardio machines, and strength- resistant machines. And now for the asterisk- Sadly, I think that the service has slipped a tad since my last Regent cruise. Not the stateroom attendants, nor the restaurant wait staff, they were still top notch. But in the lounges and pool deck, I frequently had a hard time getting service. I do not think that this is the fault of the staff- the crew is as hard working, friendly and accommodating as ever. I think the problem is in numbers- it seemed as if there was just less staff. I have no data to support this, it is just an impression. However, this was in no way shape or form anywhere near enough of a problem to put a damper on this wonderful cruise experience. One final word- these reviews are obviously very subjective matters, everyone's opinions are different and equally valid. But I always make it a point to ask people that I meet on board how they are enjoying their cruise, and for what it's worth, I did not get one response that was not ENTHUSIASTICALLY positive. The only grumbling I heard all cruise long was about chair hogs. So what else is new? Read Less

After a dozen cruises on large common cruise lines, my husband and I chose Regent. We’ve been on the 7 Seas Explorer 3 times in the past 3 years. We plan on going on another Regent cruise, they are that good. The first two were in Europe and the last one was in the Caribbean. We are in our early 60’s, fit, & seasoned travelers. All 3 of the cruises had truly excellent service in all areas. This is a main attraction along with their gourmet food. All 3 times we have had true culinary experiences in their restaurants, Prime 7 and Pacific Rim in particular. Their service and food are clearly superior to all the major large cruise lines. Although Regent is a more expensive cruise line, it’s totally worth it. Also, all of the tipping/service charges are included. For me, that’s a relief. It’s hard to figure out how they get such friendly, helpful, respectful workers but they do. All of the rooms have verandas, as well. The majority of the passengers of the 3 we were on, were probably average age of 70 - at least it seemed like it. I’d like to know the true average age. To be honest, on the first night of the first cruise I looked around the dining room and the main lobby and thought: “OMG, I am trapped in in floating nursing home.” There are a lot of slow-moving passengers using canes and walkers which is quite a contrast to some of the other cruise lines we’ve been on. Some have wheelchairs and personal assistants; but as the week went on, we realized there were a lot of advantages to being the younger ones on an older-person’s cruise. First of all, I ended up being inspired by these older, handicapped passengers who continued to enjoy life despite their difficulties with ambulation etc. Most of the time, they yield the hallway to the faster-moving passengers. They are respectful and courteous. They converse in just the right amount of pleasantries. If you wanted to talk, most had very interesting lives and stories to tell. Never even once did we see anyone drunk or causing a problem. The “active” excursions are usually small since most of the older passengers choose less energetic tours (there were only 6 of us who went on the jungle river tubing experience in Belize - which actually was rather boring and don’t recommend it but it was very personalized). The gym and spa area are practically empty (except for a few of the staff working out). I found all of this to be tremendously advantageous. A few tips: If you can’t get the excursion you want when you first book your cruise on line - check back before you leave and definitely when you get on board. People often cancel and the cruise line adds excursions. You can almost always get what you want if you are a little persistent. The excursions in Europe were really well done and totally worth going on - even if you’re not a group-tour kind of person. The tour guides know the history, culture, and geography of the area and it’s a very good learning experience. There wasn’t even one disappointing tour. It’s a little frustrating with loading up the bus with slow-moving passengers but as long as you know it ahead of time, just don’t rush back to be first on the bus. Linger at your destination and enjoy the extra time while the bus is being loaded. I could go on FOREVER about the EXCELLENT ports of call in Europe; but suffice it to say you would not be disappointed on the cruise that starts in Rome going through the Mediterranean or the cruise that starts in Athens and goes up the Aegean coast line. They were truly breathtaking & fascinating. The Caribbean excursions were not as good as the European cruise excursions; but I think it’s a reflection of the countries. The tour guides in Belize, Guatemala, and especially Honduras were somewhat disorganized and the guides had little to say on the bus which was a bit disappointing but not a huge negative. All of the Mexican ports of call, the Grand Cayman, and Key West were terrific though. For us, the Caribbean excursions took up so much time that there was little or no time left to look around the port on our own. For that reason, here’s another tip: most excursions meet in the ship theatre using a ticket system. Once you get your ticket, you meet your group out on the pier. If your excursion is a couple hours after the ship docks, you don’t have to wait around for your tour. You can go out - check out the port area - and come back for your excursion. Twice we missed an opportunity to see a port because we thought we’d have time afterwards but the shops were closed when we got back. We should have gone out before our excursion. We took excursions in Guatemala and Honduras that involved long bus rides through poverty stricken areas. I felt sad seeing all that - such that I wished I was there on a mission trip rather than as a tourist. There’s nothing anybody can do about that but something to keep in mind if seeing all that on a vacation would bother you. Book your specialty restaurant reservations early - the prime times around 7 pm go fast. The Compass Rose serves excellent food if you don’t get all the specialty reservations you want, though. No worries - you won’t have mediocre food anywhere on that ship. Remember that room service is 24/7 and they do a great job. If you want to book spa services (especially on Days at Sea) do that early too. Something else to keep in mind, the medical office has very limited services. We had an accident on one of the excursions causing large bruising and scrapes but we had to see the security officer first to determine if we were truly on a ship-sponsored excursion before they would take care of us. They didn’t do any of the wound care - they just gave us supplies to do it ourselves. For a variety of reasons, passengers are safer all-around if they stick with ship-sponsored excursions. As always when traveling, you have to really keep your wits about you. On our Regent cruise that stopped in Venice, I had my phone stolen by the port screening person as it went through the X-ray machine. I didn’t notice right away but went back in less than a minute and I got no cooperation from anyone to help me get it back. It was very upsetting. Stay at the screening place until you confirm all of your belongings are there. On the European cruises, the speaker was Terry Bishop. He’s unbelievable. He mixed knowledge, humor, and music perfectly. We looked forward to the lectures every day. The speaker series on the Caribbean cruise was terrible, though. For some reason, the cruise line decided to go political and had a speaker who discussed one side of US politics. That was very disappointing. As with all cruise lines - the daily activities sheet is important to check. There’s a LOT going on around the ship each day and it’s easy to miss out on something if you don’t check out the schedule of daily events. Their small-group bands, theatre shows, comedians, etc are all good. One night there was a party on the pool deck with the buffet & dancing under the stars that was really tremendous. Overall - this is a 5 star, sophisticated cruise line providing cultural experiences and good fun. Read Less

We had been lucky enough to sail on the Explorer on the second leg of her inaugural cruise in September 2016. We thought the service and facilities could not be improved upon but how wrong could we be. There has been some fine tuning such as changing the time of the evening shows to 9.30 which allows everyone to eat before seeing them and more use of The Cafe with permanent barristas in there - including Dragan who always smiled and was always very helpful. Most importantly the internet was so much better, so that if you want to stream anything you pay extra but for general emails and web browsing it was free and worked very well, particularly in the public areas. I was even able to continue with my French lessons on Duolingo sitting in the coffee shop with my head phones on. We stayed the first night in the Four Seasons Miami as part of the pre-cruise package - a lovely hotel but unfortunately the whole bar area and restaurant had been hired out privately which meant we had to go out. However, there were some lovely restaurants within walking distance - the concierge recommended a very good Italian. Embarkation was extremely smooth. The standard of the entertainment has also gone up another level with outstanding singers, dancers and musicians who seemed to be able to play every instrument. Firm favourites Boogie and Kasia got everyone up on the dance floor - no-one felt embarrassed making a fool of themselves. David Nevin, the excellent assistant cruise director is a first class singer and a great 'go to' person in the event of any difficult issues, as we discovered. He also did Karaoke which was really well attended and Deborah the pianist and singer did music trivia every other day as well -always good fun and the chance for more Regent Rewards! Andy the cruise director and his wife Tammy are a delight and truly lovely - they do a great trivia quiz every afternoon and Andy is firm but fair. They are also great entertainers, with a brilliant last night Beatles session with David which had everyone out dancing in the foyer and the professional dancers also joined us to indulge those of us who like to dance - none of them had any airs or graces, they gave every impression that they wanted to join in. We had not sailed with Captain Stanislas Mercier De Lacombe before and a ship always takes its lead from their Captain. He was friendly, funny, but authoritative and calm, which was very evident when the weather deteriorated and a huge wave hit the ship one evening, giving everyone great confidence that we were in safe hands. We did not find the content of the lectures to be of interest to us, but that just might be because we are huge Terry Bishop fans and so no-one else stands a chance! We had rather hoped for pirates, the rum trade and sugar cane story rather than politics - many of us go on holiday to get away from that! However, they do have the culinary kitchen which is an excellent addition. Although Regent had had to change the itinerary because of the devastation of the Caribbean, the excursions were great - swimming with dolphins in the Bahamas, and great general tours in St Kitts, St Lucia (great land and sea tour) and Antigua with three first class guides showing us a great range of both historical and panoramic sites with time for the beach as well in Antigua. In French speaking St Barts you could just walk around to browse the very expensive shops and have a spot of lunch - although everything on St Barts is expensive, be warned! The quality of the wines has also gone up a level. This might account for why 4300 bottles were drunk in 10 days! When the Captain joked on the last night that we should be ashamed of ourselves, we decided that as a Frenchman he thought perhaps we had not made maximum effort. The food has always been good but the chocoholics teatime was amazing. Pacific Rim remains our favourite restaurant with Prime 7 and Sette Mari coming a close second. Martina who works mainly in Sette Mari provides the best entertainment and is a great addition. The bar staff were equally brilliant, making you whatever you wanted, quickly and efficiently. They were under the watchful eye of Elena, promoted last year, and she was always everywhere. All in all, a great trip, with a first class ship and first class service. Read Less

Having already experienced cruises with P&O,Princess and Royal Caribbean we decided to take the plunge and try the Explorer.This by no means is a cheap alternative but once we experienced this ship, realised it was a totally different ball game.Having flown from Scotland we stayed the previous night in the Pullman Airport Hotel.I have to admit this hotel was actually a bit of a disappointment ,my American friends who we were to meet on the ship had a much better hotel near the port.Apparently the Pullman is used for the British people but the better hotels are for the American cruisers,dont know if this true but the Pullman was at best average.Our transport to the ship was early and very efficient,on arrival the baggage was taken then we were processed and on the ship within 20minutes.All very good so far but about to get much better.As soon as on board we were immediately offered champagne making this a lovely start to our cruise.On arriving at our Suite we were met by not one, but 2 stewards who made us very welcome.My wife and i then set off to meet our American friends to have lunch which was the start of a wonderful culinary experience.On this ship their are various speciality restaurants and we tried them all.The quality of these restaurants can not be understated as even the regular Compass Rose can only be described as wonderful right from the start,when i looked at the Versace plates i was blown away.Having read negative reports on Cruise critic regarding this restaurant ,i'm amazed as the service and food is out of this world.I would say the other Restaurants should be checked out as each have their own experience and treats throughout the event. The experience on a ship is led by those at the top and having visible officers is all part of a wonderful experience,on this Ship ,Captain Stan and Staff Captain Diego were always about spending time with the guests as were the other officers.It would appear that staff from all departments have excellent training and this shows by the way we treated. The wow factor continued throughout the cruise ,the Theatre and show lounges and bars are wonderful.We enjoyed the explorers lounge and Debbies piano playing and her lovely voice, she was a real treat.Boogie and Kasia did a real good job getting people dancing and singing along in various bars and at the pool.The pool was another lovely experience with these fantastic loungers and always had a good feel about being there.We tried the Gym which was state of the Art and very impressive.We didn't really do the shows as spent a lot of time with our friends socially.We only did one trip in Antigua on the Champagne and Lobster catamaran beach excursion .This turned out to be a lovely experience ,on the other islands we did tend to do our own thing but have to say we thought that St Barts was the best and highly recommended. We only had the basic Suite ,room number 605 which was wonderful ,our friends had a Penthouse Suite which had many other perks, coffee machine ,Bose music system etc and 2 rooms.It was stunning. When in St Lucia we had the opportunity to have a Bridge tour with our American friends and young officer(Calum) did a great job of making us welcome and showing us how state of the art this ship is, another treat from Regent. !0 nights on this ship is never enough and soon it was all over, the disembarkation was really slick and in no time we were back at Miami Airport.For us a Caribbean cruise in February is a real treat and we shall be doing this again.On reading back on my review i realise that my comments are very positive and actually the thats the way the Explorer is. 10 Day Eastern Caribbean Cruise on the Regent Explorer departed Miami Feb 19, 2018. First of all a shout out to "HKSILVERFOX" for a great review of the same ship and similar itinerary. I'm going to do my review in a different fashion but since we were on the same vessel there will be some overlapping. Overall -- Fantastic experience!!! Were there issues? Yes, of course there were!! we are dealing with human beings not computers. Did any of the issues distract from a fabulous vacation? NOT A BIT!!!! Pre-cruise hotel -- Four Seasons on Brickell Ave Miami. Met some new friends when we were in line to check in with the Regent representative at the hotel. Found them again at the Edge Bar and Grill and we enjoyed some quality time together throughout the cruise. Left bags inside our suite at the 4 Seasons on the morning of the cruise as directed and they appeared in our cabin on ship by 3:00 p.m. We had driven from North Carolina to Miami making several stops for visits with family and friends therefore we parked the car at Terminal "J" right next to the ship. Embarkation -- Simple, quiet, and relatively fast. There was a Regent representative who discreetly asked to see your boarding documents before you entered the queue. He then directed you to the appropriate line. No red carpets, nothing to detract or highlight any passenger. From entering Terminal "J" to getting onto the ship it was no more than 25 minutes at 12:00 p.m. A glass full of Champagne by 12:30!!!! The Explorer Ship -- truly a work of art or many works of art depending upon your perspective. You really need to 'walk' this ship as you would an art museum because you are in one. Art is everywhere from the ceilings to the flooring to the furniture to the coverings not just the "paintings" hanging everywhere. Take the time to enjoy the photographs that line the walls on every cabin deck, truly a magnificent collection. Enjoy the Library for a few minutes even if you do not intend to read a single word. We are gamers so the Card Room came in quite handy and it too is beautifully put together. There is so much ART that some might say it is overkill. For us it was, "Oh, Look at that," with big smiles!" My DW could have spent an hour just looking at the marble flooring on deck 5. "Exquisite"!!! Not all of the "art" was to our taste but we still enjoyed trying to piece together the designer's thoughts. Spend a few hours it is well worth your time. The Explorer Crew -- truly a work of art...."HKSILVERFOX" said it best; "The word NO did not exist". I need to find the Human Resources Director that was able to put this together. These young men and women ALWAYS greeted you with a smile, ALWAYS were willing to spend a few minutes with you, ALWAYS went out of their way to make sure that your request was fulfilled if at all possible. You can't ask for any more than they gave to every passenger. The crew's ATTITUDE and strong WORK ETHOS made this cruise. HAPPINESS IS CONTAGIOUS!!! Demographics -- I believe that this sailing had a bit younger clientele than the normal Regent cruise. I think the fact that it was a 10 day cruise allowed for those still working the ability for some "get away" time. If I were to guess the median age it would have been 65 or slightly younger. This also kept the lounges and dance floors full after the evening show let out from the Constellation Theater. Karaoke was very popular in the Explorer Lounge as were Boogie and Kassia. Quiet conversation could be had late night in the Meridian Lounge with some soft jazz as background (one night). Luckily we are not sun worshipers. The deck chair hogs were out in full force on this sailing. By 9:00 a.m. every front row lounger around the pool was taken with nary a body in sight. I wonder if they were even up?? Entertainment -- from okay to excellent. I did not care for the guest performer. He was a quite gifted pianist but his shows were disjointed. From Billy Joel to Bach in 60 seconds flat. I thought if he did a Billy Joel, Elton John, Harry Chapin tribute set it would have been perfect. The shows by the full ensemble were also hit or miss. I loved Revolution but didn't care for the Peggy Lee show. The best performance was World Beat on the next to last evening. Our CD's were Andy and Tammy who gave a single performance during the cruise. I think they are headed back to Kansas for a well deserved vacation. Boogie and Kassia were a unique duo. All about energy and getting the blood flowing on the dance floor. If you weren't smiling Kassia was not happy. i also enjoyed the Regent band. They played some Dixieland and Jazz in the Meridian lounge for two late sets which were well attended. Karaoke was a big hit as well in the Explorer Lounge!!! One lady brought the house down with her version of Pat Benetar's "Hit me With Your Best Shot". You know she had done this before when she never looked at the words scrolling behind her. Culinary Kitchen -- (3 classes) geared towards the beginner so for the DW it was not something she would repeat but for the DH another story. Good wine was served, some we even made during class (Sangria). Great equipment to use and lots of fun meeting other wanna be chefs...... Regent should think of adding an ADVANCED class or two to their menu of offerings (syllabus). Gym -- loved it!!!! Machines dedicated to arms / upper body on one side and leg / lower body machines on the other. Great setup!!! The view of the ship's wake while on the treadmill or elliptical or stationary bike was mesmerizing. Made you forget the self inflicted pain you were enduring. Cold water, gatorade, fruit drinks all available in a stand up refrigerator between both halves of the gym. Never saw anyone in the infinity pool that is outside the spa on deck 5. Trivia -- they take their TRIVIA seriously on the Explorer!!!!! We took it with gin & tonics and lots of laughs. Most of the questions wouldn't be allowed on Jeopardy. Cabin -- 917 (PH-A) Quite comfortable to say the least. Large balcony that was used every morning for breakfast and every late afternoon for drinks. Adequate storage space especially if you don't over pack (which of course we did). This cabin has a bedroom (king sized bed) separated from the sitting room by pocket doors. Both rooms have Samsung flat panel televisions. The bathroom is large by cruise ship standards; double vanities, large amount of storage, extra large shower (no tub), and a closeted commode. There is also a wet bar with refrigerator in case you get thirsty. On each side of the bed there are 2 USB ports for charging your mobile devices. There are also 2 European style outlets and 1 North American type outlet. We brought with us adapters to turn the European outlets into North American types. This cabin comes with a butler who we used daily. He was great in getting us additional restaurant reservations. We had an issue the first night with the sliding glass doors "whistling" due to the strong north east winds. Our butler had maintenance come in and replace the weather stripping around both sliding glass doors the next afternoon. No more whistling!! Restaurants -- food as duly noted is subjective. I would say that we enjoyed very good to excellent meals throughout the cruise. Noteworthy for us was Pacific Rim. The lobster tempura and duck entrees were simply fabulous. Combine these with the raspberry sorbet / chocolate mousse for dessert and for our two cents you could not ask for anything better. On one occasion we had to send an entree back at Chartreuse. At the slightest hint that something was wrong the waiter had the plate off the table in a heart beat and the menu back in hand to order something else. Then came a visit from the assistant Maitre'D, then the Maitre'D to make sure that everything was "okay". New entree delivered in record time and it was very good. I suspect that someone else had to wait a few more minutes for their entree to be served. Another round of visits from the entire restaurant staff to make sure that we were completely satisfied. We ate at Pacific Rim on 3 occasions, Chartruse, Compass Rose & Setti Mare twice, & Prime 7 once. It seemed that during this cruise that Prime 7 was the most sought after restaurant. it was also our least favorite. I think that if you were willing to eat at 8:00 p.m. you can get into any of the restaurants any evening. Itinerary -- our cruise departed Miami on a Monday and went straight to Nassau. We then had 2 sea days (one rough, one not so rough) on the way to Antigua, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, & St. Barth's, and then two sea days (relatively calm seas) back to Miami. Regent does a good job of scheduling the Explorer to NOT be in ports with other ships as much as possible. In St. Kitts we did a zipline adventure that was very, very good. We had 2 full busloads (16 per bus) and Regent added a 3rd bus when demand exceeded supply. Driver / guide was excellent and gave great commentary on the 30 minute ride from the pier to our destination. The ziplining personnel were all about safety, safety, and then safety. They also were very knowledgeable about their island and the rain forest we were in. Moderate hiking required between zip lines but well worth the effort. The actual zip lines were very much FUN!!! In St. Lucia (2 busloads), we combined the aerial tram with a different type of zip lining, platform to platform. These zip lines were much shorter than the ones in St. Kitts. The personnel at the facility were again all about safety. We had a guide who had encyclopedic knowledge of the rain forest that we were in. Lots of fun for everyone!! In Nassua we had an easy excursion to the Zoo and Gardens. It was just okay. Should have done lunch at Graycliff on our own instead. In St. Barth's we did our own excursion (shopping!!!!). Antigua we treated as an off day....lounging doing nothing. Others in our party did more water related excursions. There was not one negative comment from anyone on a Regent sponsored tour / excusion. Also interaction with Destination Services was very easy. A cooking class that DW had signed up for had to be cancelled due to the market being closed on a Sunday. They gave us additional options or the choice of a refund. Debarkation -- so easy. We left the ship at 8:15, collected our luggage, cleared immigration & customs and were in our car driving towards I-95 at 8:30. Summary -- we are booked on the Explorer departing Buenos Aires on Feb. 1, 2019 in the same cabin. Enough said. Read Less

Introduced friend to Regent. She contacted me since her husband was out of town and she wanted to get away. I had been after them to try Regent, and this was the perfect opportunity. Regent certainly didn't disappoint. We had some concerns about the activity scheduling and one of the speakers, but other than that, Regent provides an excellent vacation. Great choice. I normally do not room with anyone, but this time I did, and because of the room layout, it made sharing a lot easier. I could only suggest that another small chair be included as the couch is very small. Our room stewards were first class. Once we had told them our schedule and likes, there was never a moment when we needed to ask a second time. The restaurants are extremely well-run and have attentive staff. I did not attend the shows as I m a very early riser and the shows are very late. Read Less

I researched the small luxury cruise market for a year. All of them. On advice from an advisor, I took a deep dive in Regent and with excursions included we concluded this was the best value proposition. Having been with Silver Sea (and loving it), the a' la carte excursions were a budget ding we didn't appreciate since they were totally uncoordinated with the boat. Explorer out of Miami for a western Caribbean 10-day ride was superb from start to finish. Could I complain about loss of the launderette for 3 days before disembarkation...sure. Could I complain about the loss of hot water on the day we returned to port...sure. Could I complain about the really lousy Wi-Fi after they touted such great reach...sure. But at $1,300/day on a beautiful boat, excellent dining at all levels, superb service, fine finishes and furniture, very good entertainment, suite attendants that fell over themselves to please and several excursions that were excellent...could I complain? Absolutely not. Several reviewers obviously have had difficult lives given the petty issues they raised. Give me a break. If that is all you have to say about a once-in-a-lifetime experience, sit in your cabin and sulk. The signature restaurants were fine but we found the Compass Rose, in many ways, better. Spacious, vast and open. If you lay out all the menus side by side, there are many resemblances...there have to be. The signature restaurants finish your orders as much is prepared in the Compass Rose. We took the kitchen tour and learned this. There were two ports where we were tendered. Takes time, rides can be rough. We chose mid-ships, deck 6, cabin 612, port side. Great choice. No to minimum engine noise, easy and fast access to disembarkation by stairs. Being up high is hype and a cost for those that don't care. Be close to the theatre, the main restaurant, the lobby and deck 4. Trust me, it is worth it. La Veranda/Sette Mari is fun particularly when you take the stern deck area for breakfast or dinner. Room service on two days was precise and as ordered. This is a great time saver on early excursion days. The pool deck is what you find on the $200/day boats. Crowded with lounges occupied all day. Eh! The excursions to the ruins were terrific even if tiring due to long bus rides but we knew this. The other typical tourist trips were disappointing but we just made the wrong choices. Regent gives you plenty options. If in doubt, ask. Joanne's on-board lectures were fine but you should never just read your slides to adults who might just be able to read as well. Enrich!!! Would we book another...absolutely but it will be a year or so. Cruising for us is special, not routine. Enjoy. Read Less
