Theis ship is horrible, the service is so bad there is no excuse for it. It takes ages for a waiter to come to you for drinks in the main buffet even tho you have a bell for colling them, one time the waiter came to the table canceled the call and just walked away without takeing our order, when we asked him why he did that he came with such a dumb excuse, and thats is all the staff have for you is excuses. When you want to go to shore there are harbors with only steps as gang walks so disabled people cant disimbark, on the ports that disabled people can disimbark you will go thru hell when you imbark, first of all they will make sure that you know that they doing the disable people a big favor if they let 1 person to acompany the disable thru security, we had 1 person with an oxigen mask on her and security made her stand in line for 10 mins for security, they made me choose betwin my disabled father and my child ( who didnt speak english) so i had no choice but to wait for my child, so my father had to wait for me and my child and they put him near a trashcan so god forbid he will interfere the other guests, when we whent to complain about it, the costomer service made me feel like I was the one to blame, he didnt wrote my complain right and ofcourse the complaint was nulled with the excuse that you cant expect them to let 3 people cut the securety line (and I remind you 1 person is disabled and one is a child) and leting the other guest wait. The dishes in the buffet was dirty we got glasses with lipstick marks on them, plates with pasta still on it. On other ships at the evenibg of your first imbarkation the person in charge of cleaning your room comes and introduce him/her self to you and tells you that every thing you needs room wise to come to him/her, on this ship we saw him only on the last night of the cruise. The one bright light on the ship is the food, it was tasty and good and you had a large choice of dishes to choose from in the buffet, and every day was diffrent dishes, too bad you couldn't had plates to put those delicious dishes. We took an excurtion in kiel and asked the woman who booked us the excurtion if it takes us to see the city itself including the city center because they had 1 tour only for the harbor and the tour we took, at the end both of the excurtions was only for the harbor and we didnt saw the city at all. Pass these ship there are other ship lines that are much better with the same prices as this one. Read Less

The ship is terrible - despite its enormous size, has very few things to do, no entertainment program on the main pool deck, only a few games to share among 5000 passengers, very low quality theater shows. Food is quite bad quality. Shore excursions are over priced, with mediocre guides with thick accents you cannot understand. Premium drinks are low quality (particularly wine). Kids programs are super boring - this is the first time my kids refused to go to the kids center and kept repeating how boring everything is. There are only 2 pools on the main deck!! - one indoor and one outdoor, and both are tiny so they are incredibly crowded at all times. Service across the ship is below mediocre. Casino manager is the least professional and disregarding you will ever encounter - don’t bother spending big money, you will get zero attention. Overall, a cheap look and feel and not worth any price you pay. STAY AWAY. Read Less

First , I tried to contact MSC customer support prior to the cruise. Two emails and two phone call back requests and NO response! Ship was beautiful but food was mediocre at best. Staff was sad looking, not friendly and not helpful. They just stood around looking like sad sacks. When I had an issue and went to the front desk I was met with:someone will respond. No one ever did. Funny, after I got home I receive an email asking if the problems had been handled. I responded No! Again no response from anyone. At dinner the waiter made a mess of our order, brought it cold and said the kitchen was having problems? It was obvious to the three of us that the staff urgently needed extra training, with about half of the buffet group being send to a remedial course. There was consistently confusion when approaching key staff. One officer replied, I have absolutely no idea and walked away without offering assistance. It may have been a cheaper cruise but not worth the money. This was my 38th cruise and my worst. I use to say there are no bad cruises, just some better than others. I no longer will say that. Cabin attendants were good but also confused when asked about simple issues like why did I not get a daily program or why can I not get ice. Entertainment was on the cheap. Read Less

This was my 6th cruise, very first with MSC. I have cruised with Carnival and Celebrity. This ship was so disorganized. Every person you asked had a different answer. The rooms were not cleaned well. The food was TERRIBLE. Not fresh. They sent up wrong breakfasts and one day, no breakfast at all. 3/4 of the staff were rude. The dining room was awful. The first night our table of 4, we each ordered something different, and all 4 dinners were terrible. Never again on this cruise line. I required a wheelchair accessible room. The accessibility was awful. There were no automatic doors. I could not enter or leave our cabin without help. In the cabin, the phone was located across the room, not next to the bed. There was very little help to get me up and down the ramps to get on and off the ship for excursions. There were no onboard activities. Very poor. Read Less

Quick background - we are a couple who have cruised 6 times over the last 2 years. Not the most seasoned cruisers but have some experience of cruising with different lines. We decided to take the leap from mid sized ships to bigger ones with MSC as they offer yacht club, which we felt would be a good way to combine a big ship with some familiarities of a smaller vessel, as well as indulging in the luxury service YC offers. Embarkation was great. We were taken personally by a butler to the YC check in area and given Prosecco to drink. We were then escorted straight to our cabin (YC suite) by a butler who also introduced us to the staff on the concierge desk. The cabin was lovey. More a junior suite than a suite of rooms as we’ve had on other lines, but very well furnished. The only snags would be the wardrobe being quite small for two people and the balcony being quite small also. However this did not distract from how nice the room and shower room were. We also had a complimentary mini bar and a bottle of procecco on arrival in the room. This has to be the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. The ship it’s self is a sight to behold. Absolutely amazing. Think Swarovski Crystal stairs and LED ceilings that show different images during the day. The YC private sun deck was very nice as was the private lounge bar for YC guests. The physical product that MSC offer was brilliant. However the service provided by the majority of staff was a massive problem. We had chosen to book several meals and drinks packages before travel. This allowed us to get the dates that we wanted in advance (NYE being one of them) for specialty meals. One of those we booked was the Cirque du Soleil meal and show. When we arrived we had a note in our cabin asking us to visit guest services to confirm our reservation for this meal. As we were in the YC we were able to go to our concierge desk rather than wait as guest services (the queue at guest services was at times 1hour long!). The concierge explained that anything in terms of meals booked on the website never transfers to their system and that’s why we had to see them. She emailed the cirque to confirm our choice of date. We decided to check that our other reservations were in place. She said no and that for those we would need to go over to Eataly and speak to the manager who would confirm them all in one place. We went to Deck 6 where Eataly was and tried to get the attention of the manager who was chatting with some Italian guests. He proceeded to ignore us for several minutes before we decided to interrupt his conversation. We explained the situation and he didn’t reply but waved another memeber of staff over who couldn’t even speak English. He didn’t have a clue what we wanted to after 10 minutes of trying to explain using hand gestures we gave up and went back to the concierge. The concierge said the reason for not being able to get it sorted was we ‘had gone to the wrong Eataly’ and it was our own fault. She said we needed to go and find the other Eataly and they would sort it. At this point we asked if she could sort it for us. She agreed, although did not seem happy about it and said she would email the bookings to us. She also explained that our booking for the chefs table wouldn’t be available for NYE as we had booked for. She also spotted our premium drinks package and said ‘I don’t know why you bought that as you’re YC and get it anyway’ . No offer of a refund. It was at this point we realised that the bottle of champagne and souvenir flutes we had booked for sail away had not been delivered. She again told us that this is because their system has never worked but she could sent it over for another day. This set the tone for the rest of the service recieved. •in the YC bar we were often ignored and found it easier to just go to the bar our selves rather than wait for a waiter. One who did come came back to us 4 times to confirm our drinks order of ‘Diet Pepsi and a white wine’. The same waiter slammed our drinks down and began shouting at another member of staff •when coming back on board from one of the ports the staff ignored us and we calling each other profanities very loudly •walking through deck 6 was an obstacle course of people selling you meals and drinks packages •we asked our concierge to change one of our meal bookings over one night as we’d had a long day and fancied something quieter than the cirque show we’d booked. He shouted at us over the phone saying that he couldn’t do that as it was ‘too complicated’. When pressured by us to sort it he said he would but in future could we ‘not change our minds as it’s awakward’ for him and that he’d struggled to get us a table in the other resturant (which ironically was very quiet anyway!) Food. •Generally the food was poor quality. The food served in the YC resturant was the same at lunchtime as in the buffet (not the gourmet experience the website promised). •The steak in the butchers cut was very good, but at a premium. •The buffet was a feeding frenzy with people grabbing food and pushing and shoving. There was inadequate seating available for the volume of guests. It was very very very loud in here, we didn’t go back after the first time! •When booking we were advised that we could dine anytime at any of the included resturants across the ship. However this was no longer the case and we could only dine in YC, premium resturants or the buffet. Other guests who were not YC were subjected to strict dining times in a set resturant - if they were 15 minutes late for their time they would not be allowed in. •unlike other lines you will not see officers around the ship and the manangement team do not interact with guests, passing you to a more junior memeber of staff Around the ship •Astheically the ship is lovely. However the public areas do not seem to cope very well with the volume of passengers during the winter season. Everywhere is loud. There was a DJ playing above the shopping arcade at the same time as a Zumba class happening at the bar a few meters away. •the Swarovski stairs are amazing, however you probably won’t be able to use them as the ships photographers use them for private photo shoots with people lying down on them posing •on day one I thought there was a queue to meet and greet the captain. It was very long. It was actually the queue for guest services for people complaining •staffing ratios do not seem very high. At the amusement arcade there was one person running the sports court, bowling alley, f1 simulators and the flight simulator. We had a go on the flight sim and had to wait ten minutes when it finished for the memeber of staff to let us out. We had to wait in a pitch back sealed pod! We even pressed the emergency button as we’d waited so long!!! •the safety drill was the most unusual experience ever. We were all asked to meet in the theatre. Given an demonstration in 5 languages as to how to put the life vest on and then group by group taken to different muster stations across the ship. We were group A so after everyone had left we were told in 5 languages that the theatre was our muster station and we could go. Surely they could have told us this at the start and saved us a 45 minute wait?? Bottom line This ship was on the whole not for us. It is loud and difficult to relax in. You could be sat eating a meal at the butchers cut to be interrupted for 10 minutes by animated dinsours fighting and roaring on the LED screen for a ‘show’. However we do appreciate that some people enjoy that kind of holiday. However, had the service and food been better we would have made the best. Instead we were treated like an inconvenience and told off by so called ‘concierges’ and ‘butlers’. We told the YC director that we were planning to leave the next day and he apologiesed but didn’t offer to rectify any of the issues we had raised. The next day he was genuinely surprised that we had booked flights home and said he thought we would have reconsidered - why? Nothing had been changed. All the bookings we had made online were still messed up. The food was still rubbish and staff still rude. And even our newspaper delivered on the last day was wrong. We decided our time was more valuable that the money we had already spent and we would have a happier new year at home where at least we don’t get told off and can relax. This ship is due to move over to serve the American market this year. I cannot see Americans who are used to and expect a high level of service tolerating what MSC offer on this ship. We have been offered no compensation or reimbursement for the services we paid for in advance that we did not revcieve. Read Less

I was really disappointed with MSC system. Most of the crew were rude, rude and rude in all area of the ship. Please pay attention to your bill. Almost everyday I need to go down the reception to clarify the charges. Even though I purchased the package for food and drink. They have too many package until the crew and myself also confuse what is what. Let take an example like I bought the premium package for my drinks. So it emphasized that any glass drink that is under euro 10 is under the package. But I was told that I need to pay for the drinks like sake and plum wine which was under Euro 10. Then when I go challenge with the crew they answered me " this is an Italian cruise and you are drinking japanese sake so you need to pay" so meaning all the whisky and beer from scotland and US I need to pay????? Becareful with the photo you purchase too. Please ask for a better package and do check whether they double charge or not. Most of the crew are really rude especially in the Buffet dining area. If you manage to have someone take good care of you then please do appreciate this person. I was ask this question when I try to order some drinks from the waiter " Why didn't you order just now". I also have argument with the waiter and the supervisor on the fresh orange juice which fall on less then euro 10 category. I could go on and on. Their are just tons of problem with their system. Even to the cleanliness of the cabin. Don't bother with Balcony. They don't clean your Balcony. Their shows is boring. So no point go paying for show at Curosell. Read Less

Fantastic ship, our cabin was a balcony could not complain the food was outstanding the staff in the pub where the best. ALL above where the best bits below for the bad bits Hair drier didn't work first day went to reception first thing she said what did i do to it practically accusing me of breaking it. when we left port the shops duty free shops opened decided to buy a watch as it was 35%discount and it stated if you could find a lower price they would match it,so i bought one,out of curiosity next day i looked on the net found same one for 40euro less on Amazon, went back to the shop and shown the guy who sold me the watch i was told the watch on amazon was a Fake, well you can imagine, wonder what amazon would think?i requested to see the manager very rudely told go find the manager inside and he walked off, that's twice that ive been rudely spoken to by MSC staff,so i went inside the woman in the shop was no better very reluctant to get the manager,in the end she rang and the reply was,the reduction was only if you find a lower price in the shops internet doesn't count,i said where does it say internet doesn't count on the printed sign, she couldn't answer me. I have made a online complaint to MSC not that im holding my breath for a response. went back to my cabin and looked at my billing 10 euro per day per person, hmm have i had great service no so why should i hand over my hard earned cash to rude, unprofessional unhelpful staff, went back to reception to get a refund of all my service charges ans this is VOLUNTARY NOT COMPULSORY i was asked why and told them straight i will give my money to someone who deserves it. Shuttle buses not part of the Cruise 13 to 16 euro a head but if you wait 2 hours after the first shuttle bus,or they think they taken as much cash from the customers, the shuttle buses become free! The other thing which i found disgusting was opposite the reception was a signed area for disabled seating this was ignored by a group of Italians another passenger pointed out it was seating for disabled he was laughed at not one member of staff moved them on discus-ting I could go on but i havnt got the time the other customer reviews speak for them selves as we thought it couldnt be that bad,but im afraid to say it was,we where glad to be home I can supply photos should the company request Read Less

Without doubt the very worst holiday (let alone cruise) we have ever been on. Please, please, please do not ignore the negative MSC reviews and part with your hard earned cash or 'Take a punt' like we did. Where to start. 1 - Ship - Lovely modern and clean. They've put a lot of thought in to it. 2 - Customer service - non-existent. Most staff are rude at best, hostile or aggressive at worst. Several times staff members barged their way past either myself or my partner through doorways or corridors. Staff in general looked depressed or bored and seemed to resent passengers. Would desperately love to say there were 1 or 2 notable exceptions however sadly there weren't. 3 - Food - The very worst we've been served anywhere on any holiday. Hard to believe that an Italian company can ruin pasta! Food in general was bland, lukewarm, recycled from one meal to the next and made from very, very cheap ingredients. As one of our fellow English speaking passengers put it 'I wouldn't feed it to my dog'. The buffet was nothing short of an absolute farce. The pizza was popular so if you fancy a slice be prepared to fight for it. I jest not. The only tip we picked up and would recommend is that if you are stupid enough to book a cruise on the Meraviglia and find yourself in the buffet head directly to the back. Do not pass 'Go', become one of them and barge your way straight to the back. End of. 4 - Fellow passengers - The vast majority of our fellow passengers were Italian. Which sort of makes sense considering it was an Italian ship on a Med cruise. However just making a point of saying what follows isn't based on 100% of Italian people, just 100% of the Italian people on our cruise. Now that's that out the way. The behaviour and general conduct of our Italian shipmates was nothing short of utterly disgraceful by anybody's standards. Rude, obnoxious, inconsiderate and loud, boy were they loud. With absolutely no exaggeration whatsoever we were unable to hold a conversation in either of the restaurants were ate in or any of the communal or public areas we were physically co-located with Italian passengers. Physically aggressive barging and hostile to anything resembling a queue whether that be for food, waiting to pay, boarding the ship or a bus/coach or to pass through a doorway. And they make no distinction for male or female, young or old you WILL be pushed and/or elbowed out the way. Sounds like a cliche however the only way to survive is to adopt the 'When in Rome....' approach (scuse the pun). It will inevitably lead to drama however although by that stage you just think 'Bring it on'. Now I have lived and worked abroad all my life so am happy with 'Cultural differences' and can put up with a fair deal without grinding my gears. However, being trapped with no escape from several thousand people who were put on this earth to make me hate them turned my hols in to an utter nightmare. 5 - Cabin - Clean, fresh and presentable however the storage space was minimal so we found ourselves more or less living out of our suitcases. Ultimately speaking though not the end of the world. What was particular horrific however was our cabin experience, which is really our private and intimate space, being utterly ruined by fellow passengers in surrounding cabins out on their balcony's seemingly chain smoking which wafted straight in to our cabin. So we either had to sit out and put up with a face full of smoke or stay inside our cabin with the door shut. The on board briefings clearly state that smoking on cabin balcony's is strictly forbidden and there are clear notices to that effect on the inside of balcony doors but this is simply ignored. My partner made a point of politely asking our neighbours if they'd please not smoke on the balcony however the chap just smiled, shrugged his shoulders and sparked up. Had I been there he'd have been 'Sparked' alright (see what I did there). Took x3 attempts reporting them to reception before MSC did anything about it. We had to physically tell a receptionist to smell a t-shirt I'd put out a dry on the balcony however so they lost any credit for that. It absolutely pinged of stale smoke. Sadly it was just our direct neighbours who were spoken to and not those above and below us so it made very little difference and any further complaints simply fell on deaf ears. I'm more than happy if somebody wants to crack on and have a fag however our cabin absolutely stank and to sit out on the balcony meant passively sharing their woodbines with them. Maybe we were just unlucky, who knows. Take the risk if you like but you have been warned. 6 - Excursions - Having read previous reviews we'd done our homework in advance and planned our own trips ashore at a fraction of the price. It's a good job we did because passengers we spoke to said what MSC had tried to cram in to the short times ashore was ridiculous. They were either rushed to/from/between each thing with little or no time to enjoy or experience anything or excursions were cut short with no refund or recompense of any kind. Expectations may vary however so not necessarily marking MSC down for that, you'll need to make your own mind up. 7 - Entertainment - The entertainment we saw seemed dated and pretty social club in quality (i.e. a tad naff) although some classical performers we saw in open or public areas were brilliant. Some fellow Brits paid for the Cirque du Soleil dining experience which they said was naturally superb however it was marred slightly by the dining part which they said was extremely poor. 8 - Embarkation/Disembarkation - Because passengers join and leave the ship on each stop there was no sense of occasion and one felt very. very much like a passenger as opposed to a guest. It did however make life easier not having to fight an entire ship's worth of people to get on/off. Once we'd boarded and run the carefully choreographed gauntlet of hard sell people it we were just left to crack on and find our cabin before setting sale with absolutely no fanfare. In summary - Should have been significantly more pleasant than it was given the ship however it was simply ruined by the dire service and appalling conduct of our Italian shipmates. One positive I would give MSC above the likes of Royal Caribbean is that whilst you still have the hard up sell, such as drinks packages/Premium dining/Spa treatments etc, they are no where near as persistent and in your face. In every other aspect however Royal Caribbean rather embarrasses MSC without even breaking a sweat. What else would I summarise or flag up from the usual topics or points? Probably that in tune with most airlines nowadays MSC gear 100% of their customer service on the premium 'Yacht Club' (First/Business class) passengers and everybody else down the back end are just the plebs making up the numbers and not worth making the effort on. I personally expect more from a cruise. Would I choose MSC again? Not if you paid me Would I recommend MSC to anybody else? Not a chance in hell Would my MSC experience put me off cruising? Probably not however I will pay more attention to the reviews in future. May give P&O a shot next. Read Less

We chose this for our honeymoon. Our group includes our 80 year old mothers. I’m struck by the sheer overcrowded, impersonal, iPad and upsell-driven process we are a part of. Food areas and common areas are ridiculously overcrowded, no seating available and long queues for lukewarm and very ordinary food-we cruise a lot, this is way below par on many levels. The ship itself is impressive, and I’m sure few would deny this, the experience though is far from relaxing. Cabins small, we have a balcony cabin with the Aurea package, TV impossible to see from the bed, we have no sofa, nor mirror in our cabin (bar the bathroom). I believe we have seen our cabin attendant once. We found that the staff are undertrained in general, they work too many hours and are tired and overstretched as they have traded opulence of ship and taken away any form of personal experience, just doesn’t feel special in any way and it’s a fight to get service-I requested a tray to carry food to my mother who is disabled, and was told to make several trips with plates instead, each time fighting my way back through infeasible crowds. Not a patch on other similar priced cruise experiences I’ve had. Read Less

We have been on over 50 cruises and this was the worst cruise and cruise line ever. The cruise was from Hamburg Germany to Genoa Italy with stops in Spain Gibraltar UK France and Italy. The only good thing was the itinerary. It started off with the most disorganized boarding I have ever seen. It took over 2 1/2 hours. And then I found out that my credit card wasn't even registered. When you board the ship there isn't any ship personnel to tell you where your cabin is. I asked my cabin steward for an extension cord for my cpap machine and he said I had to go to the reception and pay 15 euro, I went down there and there was at least 500 people in line, which by the way was a daily occurance. I wanted to get some euros for the casino and the reception said I couldn't put it on my cruise card. So I went there late at night and I asked for 300 euros on my credit card. After some confusion she submitted the card 3 times at 100 euros a time to see if I was good for it. I was afraid the credit card company was going to cancel my card thinking there was something fishy. The people at the reception were rude and very uninformed. Every day when you walk down the main deck on deck 5 6 or seven you are constantly being pushed for massages perfume etc. I thought I was at the old Levitz furniture store. A lot of people on board were extremely pushy at the buffet. They would reach over the top of you and jump the lines. I dont think some of them ever saw banana's before. They would put banana's out and they would take 6 or 7. The food was so bland at the dining room we went to the butcher cut. They asked me for a drink and I requested a martini. They said they didn't have any. They only had a small selection. They had to bring in a special waiter to go get me a martini. There were no formal nights. No lectures on popular topics. The main shows were bad. I requested a survey they never sent me one after I gave them my email. Overall I was very happy to get off the ship. From now on no mare MSC cruises. If its like that in Florida they wont succeed. Read Less

Whew!!! That sucked. We've been on 42 cruises and this is the bottom of the list. Never again. We'll start with the positives. Our cabin steward, Kadam, was excellent, he was always there with a smile and a pleasant greeting. One attendant at the Marketplace buffet, Laxman Singh Kanyal from India was very pleasant and went out of his way to help us.. We had o make reservations for the shows, while different this is a good idea to assure everyone get s to see the shows. The Himalayan walk and slides were fun Thats it. The ship was too big, the crew was rude, the passengers from Europe were incredibly rude. People cut in line, the crew did nothing even though it happened right in front of them Passengers reached across your plate, cut in line and were generally unfriendly. Maybe this is the norm for some European countries. The tours were consistently screwed up. Embarkation and debarkation was a sad attempt. Many passengers shared similar comments. We were walking down an aisle, quite few crew members were hanging out talking about whatever. OK no problem but they blocked about 80% of the aisle and made no attempt to move and let us pass like any normal courteous person would do. The hot water was consistently unavailable at the buftet. The food was uninspired at best. There was not one single meal I ate that I'd go back for. I could go on and on but I have better things to do. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this cruise line. Read Less

We had to call several times for someone to come and order drinks at the buffet ii. We sometimes had to clean tables ourselves on the buffet iii. Almost never smiling iv. I have cruise with different company's during my 7 years experience but this is the worst experiences ever. I was stupid I didn´t read all the reviews about MSC. If this will be your first cruise I will guarantee this will be your last if you have some self respect. Ok first the few positive things, cabin (5050) real good and our cabin steward was one of few service minded persons on the ship and actually she saved our cruise so we didn't jump of the ship during the cruise. The food standard it´s quite good and even the desserts. The disaster starts already during embarkation, rude personnel during check in and then it starts with this "istanbul bazaar" with all kind of selling tricks. It took me 5 min argument even before entering the ship that I don't want have any cruise selfie and relay not on display on the ship ( and I don´t mean the security photo). The rules for the drinking package is so complex that even the personnel don't always now what is including or not. No of the drinks taste or look the same way in different bars ex. gin tonic in one bar is without lime in another with orange and in the third with no sparkling water. Why have drink list on drinks when you don´t can serve as they should or is this the MSC standard, for ex bloody marie without celery during the hole cruise!!! Everything cost extra, even the movies in your cabin 7€ for 5-10 years old movies, and they still have porn movies on demand 2018!!! come on!! 30 min bowling for 25€ !!!! and so on. The food in buffet dining is quite good but the dinning space is not dimension for all guest, you have to fight for a chair and if this is not enough the MSC crew is occupying lots of guest seats for their dining and drinking coffee. The main dining is another disaster you have 2h to eat 3 dishes and when your service is so slow that your main course is coming after 1h 45 min then you have skip the dessert before you will be kick out. MSC have some strange attitude to their guests ex when you are entering the ship in different ports MSC crew is letting their own personnel off the ship first so you have to wait to entering the ship just because their crew will have some more spare time. The transfer buses to the ship and from the ship is filled up with crew before guests, so guests have to wait!! I could keep on but I will stop here so choose a another company and save some frustartion Read Less

This is my 15th cruise, never been badly treated like this by customer service.... HAVE YOUR CRUISE INVOICE PRINTED EVERY DAY because of daily mistakes and since you cant see the credits on the app or in your cabin (you only see the charges), you have no idea of your balance (balance is NOT SHOWN NOWHERE ! Come on) The whole cruise there are rules, on the tender it took 2h to be back on the ship, badly organized, they seat you like sardines on 4 tenders instead of using 8 of the 10 tenders they have... They order you around like you're in boarding school, veryyyy rude... Dont tender from this ship unless you buy an excursion ! Same plain omelette every day for breakfast, food is horrible for a cruise that pricey... Inernational food? Yeah right, there are 2 OPTIONS of intl food every day, Norwegian or Royal Car cruise line frequent cruisers like me would have a stomach ache just looking at those 2 OPTIONS with squid in them almost every day... Daily soup also has squid or calamari in it, its nice once, but NOT EVERY DAY ! Casino is closed when docked, which is normal, but if you ask at what time it will re-open you get the answer like if you're bothering them... Cruise director never seen nowhere and is never doing announcements .... No bingo, no games, no laughs... You feel like getting off the ship? They will charge you 25euros for a 8min shuttle bus to Reykjavik ! You want to go 2 days in a row on that shuttle, price is 35euros.... Dont leave a cup or a glass in your cabin every day, cause thdn the stewart will start to threaten to charge you for cleaning up the room! Threats ! Unbelievable! Then you go complain at guest service and you get the same look on that agent's face : She or he doesnt believe you, you're the one who's wring and please shut up and go away ! I had a bug on my internet service that was charging me 27euros twice a day for more MB that I wasnt buying, until THE END of the cruise they ssis I was buying it and I didnt press the BUY button once! OUR SYSTEMS SHOW YOU ARE BUYING IT... I didnt of course but they eill argue you until your nose bleeds.... STAY AWAY FROM THAT SHIP AND ITS HORRIBLE GUEST SERVICE AND FOOD, only the waiters are nice, PERIOD. Read Less

This was our 6th cruise and have loved all previous cruises. This was our first with MSC. The first day was terrible. I queued for nearly two hours to speak to guest services. The man that served me was unbelievably rude and purposely unhelpful. He was so arrogant and spoke to me as if I was annoying and irrelevant and that my problem was not his problem. I guess that just set the mood for the rest of the cruise. Where were the happy smiling staff? Fun? Laughter? Not on this ship. My husband was 'told off' by a female staff member in the dining area for pressing the service button which he hadn't pressed. When he told her he hadn't pressed it she got even angrier. !!! The food was good but long queues and not enough seating was a big problem. MSC are mostly about making money and they don't really care about giving good service for it! Everything costs extra. We paid extra for Cirque de Soleil. It was pretty mediocre. Not worth the hype. Long waits for tenders and buses. Yacht club members seemed to get all the good areas. You couldn't get a view from the front of the ship as it was only available to Yacht Club members. They still owe us money for a shore cancellation cancelled 2 months prior to cruising. Although they have been given all information many times they just ignore all correspondence. Read Less

We have cruised with MSC before and were really looking forward to repeating out previous and wonderful experience. Not to be. We travelled from Aust to Milan, bus to Genoa and were put in a grotty hotel - which was under renovation, sanding and painting going on and building surrounded by scaffolding. We met several other Aussie couples doing the same cruise. They had paid for interior rooms or ocean view, we paid top dollar to indulge ourselves after returning to work fulltime at out ages 65 and 69 for the previous 6 months just to pay for this trip. All the other Aussie were upgraded to a balcony cabin on Deck 14 and we on Deck 12 - as far aft as ya can get! They in mid ships. They paid $6,999 aus each and we $9,999 aus each. So in essence we paid $6,000 more than any other Aus couple and we got a crap cabin with limited view as our small balcony has half metal and half clear glass - restricted view. We were offered no upgrade or recompense. The food is crap at best 3/10. This ship is too big, too many people and staff don't give a damn about passengers. One has to pay for water - even in the restaurants. Everything is about the mighty dollar and not passenger comfort - shuttles to the towns are another cost - never experienced by us before. Buffet food is crap. Restaurant food sub standard and all done on the cheap. One meal was "seafood Paella" - it consisted of rice and one prawn and 1 mussel - no other protein or seafood. Disgusting !!! We have travelled from the other side of the world for this!!! We are devastated..........we are so disappointed and disillusioned .......We have cruised withe Holland American, P & O. Norwegian and on MSC Armonia (which we thoroughly enjoyed and recommended) BUT never again will we risk MSC. We are currently still on the ship as we took a 3 week cruise; we are looking forward to getting off!!! Embarkation was an all day affair and so so disorganised, it was a nightmare! Hope disembarkation is not as horrid - it will be cause for celebration for us to put this experience behind us. Sorry cannot recommend. Read Less

£3700 pounds for a nightmare , dirty tables Full lifts Staff English very limited Everyone using the wheelchair and pram entrance so my children were irritable waiting over an hour to board . Some staff were great and some terrible , the better ones in the paying restraunts . If your thinking of travelling mainly Italians and announcements are mainly in other languages other than English . Buffet most days clear your own table before sitting like a zoo. The ship is very attractive however the staff are the ones that can make or break your stay . The rooms very clean and attendant was polite . Waiters in main restraint were great . If MSC said I’ll give you a £1000 cruise voucher to a future cruise I would decline. I blame the ships management as moral seems an all time low . Especially avoid this cruise if you are from the uk and have children as the kids club speak little English and focus more on there own spoken language . The excursion from the port to Marseille is charged by Msc however there’s a free shuttle so they will have you over for this. Read Less

Returned from an MSC Meraviglia cruise yesterday (April Fool’s day, funnily enough) - very disappointed with our trip. If you’re thinking about booking with MSC, and trying to ignore the bad press they get in feedback comments, then don’t. They are realistic, warranted and true. Don’t do it – find another cruise line and save yourself a lot of money, grief and stress. MSC seem to be interested only in extracting more and more money from you, at every turn – the profits of the company seem to be far more important to them than the customer experience. After an endless embarkation process (being herded like sheep or goats to the slaughter) we finally made it onto the ship, and we were bombarded with endless staff trying to get us to purchase a drinks, food, beverage, photos or whatever package. Strange that we couldn’t move a step without tripping over one of them when we first embarked, but later when we wanted to ask a question at reception, we had to wait in a queue for almost an hour to get any attention. (More of this later.) Even during meals the poor overworked waiters would shove a notice under our noses, trying to get us to pay an extra 20 euros for a steak, or whatever they were selling that night. Atrocious. On the plus side, we found the food good quality, varied and hot, and the waiters were courteous and attentive. The downside was that despite advertising a dozen restaurants, we were allocated ONE when we got there, at a sitting of 6 people (despite asking for a table for 2) and were expected to sit there every single evening. The only choice we had was to pay extra to upgrade to another one (of 3) restaurants. Other than that, it was the bun-fight in the Market (buffet) area or a burger sitting round the pool. (The Market buffet was extremely varied and quite good quality but the behaviour of the clients – and more particularly their unattended offspring – left a great deal to be desired. More reminiscent of a chimps tea party than a meal, but I digress.) The other problem we had with the ‘fixed’ sitting meant it clashed with the shows, so we were faced with a choice of either gulping down our food to get to the shows on time, or leaving without finishing our meals. On reflection this wasn’t much of a problem because the shows weren’t of a very high quality – either in content or variety, so we didn’t miss much (according to our fellow inmates). Having said that, the Cirque du Soleil show was extremely good, but of course, we had to pay an extra 15 euros for that (that included a cocktail – choice of 2 types) and a chocolate macaroon. Woopee! And woe betide you if you stopped for a chat after your meal – the manager would trot along and throw us out – he was far more interested in getting the tables re-laid for the next sitting to let us stay past our allotted time of an hour and a half for all 3 courses… They had 3 sittings to fit in! Our cabin had a large comfy bed and small but adequate shower room. The balcony, however, came with the added benefits of being covered in crumbs, a toe (or finger?) nail clipping, and filthy windows that you could hardly see through. The cabin attendant was polite and friendly but just managed the basics. No towel animals, chocolates on the pillows or any frills. And despite requesting breakfast in the cabin every morning (except one) they managed to miss us out 2 of the mornings (including disembarkation morning) so we had the added stress of attending the bun-fight on deck 15 and fighting through the marauding chimps to get a coffee and a table. Not a great finale. On 3 occasions we queued at the ‘reception’ area – mostly needing help with our bill, and on each occasion we were queuing for almost an hour. When we finally reached the front of the queue, there was no apology for the wait, contrition from the staff, or even a smile or an acknowledgement that we’d managed to reach the front without expiring from boredom – just a stony stare, a grunt and seemingly incredulity that we should bother them with such trivial matters. Their indifference to our plight (in each case) was spectacular. I wonder if they’re trained to become so obnoxious, or if comes naturally to them? A special breed, perhaps? They offer an alternative method of paying your final bill if you don’t use a credit card (which we didn’t) – a machine. But the machine tries to take another 100 euros credit every time you go near it, is incapable of telling you your final bill amount, or printing you a hand-out of your itemised bill. So you have no choice but to attend the charming staff on the reception desk. (We were told that ONE of the machines will give you a final bill, if not an itemised list, but they don’t tell you which one it is, or where it is, until you visit them behind the desk. Marvellous system, I’m sure you’ll agree…) The kids are very well catered for. Entire floors have been created for them, but unfortunately they seeped into all the other areas too, and the noise level (from shrieking babies to obnoxious teenagers tearing around) was often cacophonous. Add to that the scooters they went around on, buggies they were pushed around in and general level of single minded selfishness they exhibited (around food and drink mostly) I can’t say they added to the experience. The lifts were always full to the brim, often stopping at every single stop on their way up and down (often in the opposite direction to that which we wanted to go in) and took ages to arrive. MSC have invented a clever little app that you can download to your phone to ‘add to your experience’. However, mine didn’t work very well, and didn’t show me my account, or how much I’d spent (although fellow travellers seemed to have got that bit). Waste of time downloading it in the first place. As already mentioned, MSC only seemed to be interested in extracting every last cent from us (as a captured audience). Nothing was free, including water or coffee with meals, ice-cream or anything at all really. They would charge 18 euros for a shuttle bus to get from the ship to the local town, but if you knew what you were doing, you could just walk a few yards and catch the local bus free. At another port they charged us 9 euros for a shuttle bus, but the local one was provided for 4 euros (return). They relied on ignorance and panic which they received in droves. There are far too many passengers (being Easter the boat was at full capacity with over 5,700 guests) but only (up to) 1500 crew – the lowest ratio I’ve ever encountered on a cruise. The public areas (bars, pools, eateries) were way too crowded and it was difficult to find a seat/table – probably because the space they could have allocated to make the passenger experience more pleasurable has been taken up with shops to extract money from them for watches, perfume, chocolates and other stuff that funnily enough seemed empty for the vast majority of the time. Finally, this cruise (that wasn’t cheap) was to celebrate my 60th birthday. A celebration. Sadly it was far from that. And despite MSN being fully aware it was my birthday (the travel agents made it known to them before we departed and one of the bar staff sang a few bars, single-handed, of Happy Birthday to me) they made no effort to make my stay special in any way. No upgrade, no chocolates, no fruit, no bottle of bubbly, nothing! I wrote to them before we left, asking if there was anything they could do to make it more of an occasion. They wrote back and basically said ‘no’. It would be down to the management of the individual ship to do whatever they felt appropriate. Well it appears that apart from leaving a towel rabbit on the bed with a nasty cheap card, nothing else, in their opinion, was appropriate at all. We saw countless other people getting the ‘drum banging procession of half a dozen staff singing and dancing, followed by a birthday cake with a candle’ at different venues (restaurants and theatres) but nothing came my way at all. Not even a muffin and a pair of maracas. So thanks, MSC – you really pulled out all the stops to make my ‘special’ birthday celebration one to remember. But sadly, for all the wrong reasons. I’m sure this ship is ideal if you’ve got kids, like a lot of noise, huge crowds, queuing, and bun-fights and don’t want any courteous treatment from staff (I say this with the exception of our waiter) but for us, it felt like a money grabbing sausage factory where the staff are over-worked, probably under-paid, and frankly don’t give a ****. In a sentence: All glitz but no glamour. Or… all fur coat, and no knickers. We won’t be using MSC again. Read Less

This is our 26th cruise and it ranks as one of our worst.... Pros Thermal spa was great Honours other cruise line’s loyalty programs Ship was new and clean Cons Food too salty, and the pizza was limp and soggy. The restaurant’s menu was limited and the quality of the dishes was inadequate. It was always tough to find seats in the buffet as they always seem to close off sections and way too many people. Food selection in buffet was limited and seemed to be repeated daily. There are 3 sittings in the dining rooms, so you were always rushed through dinner so they can setup for the next seating. Too crowded, wasted space and the shops were not interesting. Hot tubs were always full. Our tour in Milan was cancelled in the last minute due to a marathon, I thought these types of events were planned years in advance, but I guess they forgot to tell MSC. Not even an apology from the Shore Excursion staff. UNICEF donation automatically charged to your onboard account Encountered an incredible situation while riding in the elevator. The elevator stopped and the Captain’s thugs came in and ushered everyone out, it was not an emergency or any urgent matter they just didn’t want the captain to wait for an elevator, 15 seconds later the captain didn’t come and they let us back into the elevator, without even an apology. Long waits to get back on board after shore excursions, only one X-ray unit was employed to checked baggage. All the literature showed that charges would be in dollars but we were charged in euros instead. Crew appears to be overworked and tired, not a smile in the bunch Always pushing drinks….everywhere. Guest Service waits were always over a hour, lineups were long, as many had problems. Read Less

As we have some cruise experience (Holland America, RC, Princess, Costa, Viking, Aida) and have travelled with MSC (Fantasia) before, we spontaneously decided to spend a week on MSC Meraviglia. Prices seemed more than reasonable and as we planned our trip for March we knew we were not coming back with a tan, so opted for an interior cabin without balcony. The weather wouldn't be permitting spending much time outside anyways. Having just returned from the trip the conclusion is to never go on board an MSC cruise again. It was the first time in all these years that we decided to leave the ship early and were quite pleased to get away from it all. First, let's start by summing up some pros and cons. PROs: - the ship makes a good first impression looking clean and quite impressive - the cabin, in comparison to other reviews, we thought was decent considering the price - our booking included a mealtime drink package which made the price even more reasonable at first sight - the embarkation process in Marseille went smoothly and we were able to go on board within an hour. CONs: - depressed or rude staff - overcrowded everywhere at all times - airplane food - 15% service charge - MSCs money making scheme - EVERYTHING costs a lot The experience in more detail Ship When we entered the ship the first impression was good, nice clean with seemingly all the amenities required to spend a good holiday. However after having walked around and explored the ship it was lacking all aspects of cosyness and despite being so big we could not find a place where we really wanted to spend our time. The style is very modern, cold and bold, which may be a question of taste, but none of the bars, spaces and places had a sense of welcoming atmosphere about them. The mall is large but it makes you wonder why all this space has been wasted on rather useless instalments like a TV studio and the Chocolatiere chocolate shop. Have fun spending your time there on a 7 days cruise. Apart from that you get the usual overpriced duty-free and merchandise shops as well as restaurants you have to pay extra. Dining To describe it in one word: TERRIBLE! The marketplace buffet reminded me of 2* all-inclusive hotels in my teenage years travelling to Mallorca and the costa del Sol. Always overcrowded with people seemingly going for the last supper of their lives. Fighting for tables, food, Asians taking their time to fill up flasks with tea and coffee. Incredibly poor food standard. It sounds good when you read the signs, I.e. seafood ravioli in a white wine sauce, but as soon as you try it, you'll find that it tastes like cold or, when lucky, lukewarm airplane food. Another fun fact is the beer, as a German, I quite like my beer with my meals when on holiday but what on earth are these guys serving? My girlfriend and me were wondering if something like instant beer exists, cause if it does that's what they might be serving. Do you know these Softdrink machines at McDonald's where you can see the syrup mix with the soda? I imagine MSC's draft beer being made like that! The waves restaurant reminded me of the film Titanic when you see the decision between the upper and lower classes. No windows in this restaurant, grey dark and too many people in not enough space to create an enjoyable atmosphere. Our waiter was a joke. Incredibly rude and rolling his eyes at every single request being made. On the first night we had to queue for 20 minutes to be taken to our table. When we arrived he immediately handed us the menus without any greeting to return 1-2 minutes later to ask us for our choices. We ordered our starters and mains without any second thoughts before being asked our choice for dessert not even knowing at this time whether we wanted one or not. When someone from our table requested wine he put a bottle on the table and said help yourselves, it is your job for the evening now. Unbelievable! Once you have gulped up your last bite the waiters will indicate that it is time for you to leave now. We spend 2 regrettable dinners there and chose the buffet instead. Cabin The dark interior of the cabin is not quite our taste but the cabin was clean and alright. The only slight problem was the air conditioning which didn't do much to provide the cabin with some needed oxygen. In some moments we missed not having a balcony, oh and a chair would be useful as well as a bathrobe. When we requested some, we are told that they are only provided on the YC and Aurea categories. This meant for us that in March we had to walk the outside decks with just a towel when going to the whirlpools. Entertainment & Activities We did not try any of the costly extras like bowling etc. It seems that they are trying to make it extra boring to force you to pay for activities. No poolside games, poor quizzes and when something takes place it is too packed to enjoy. We bought day passes for the spa at an extra cost of€55 for two, also disappointing. A small (for 5000 guests) outdated spa and the steam rooms were not even working on the day. They said they will take care of the problems but did not offer any refunds. Talking about offering, they do not offer much of anything in the spa apart from towels. No tea or water or juices. Guys, this is standard everywhere!! Health & Safety Usually not a category in reviews it needs to be highlighted for this ship. The safety demonstration took place in the theatre forcing everybody to listen to 2 points of information in 6 languages, a demonstration of the safety vests and the alarm signal. Afterwards, in groups they show you safety station. Ours conveniently was the Irish pub. To this day I have no clue which safety exit to the boats we would have to take or who and how would they be handing out the safety vests. I can only imagine what the scenario would be like in case of an emergency with 5000 guests plus staff. Another important point is the complete disregard for any hygienic standards. Nobody cares if you sanitise your hands during embarkation or when coming into the restaurants, no reminder, no nothing. Good luck with noro viruses in the future, it is bound to happen. This is especially insteresting considering all the touch screens everyone uses everywhere. Excursions We always go by ourselves as 99% of the time cruise ship excursions are a rip off. Service If you could call it that... the reception is designed for people to give up during queuing. Phone calls are never answered by reception, all you hear is the mocking message that your call is important to MSC. Overall Many aspects that make a cruise special are lost on this ship because of the hop-on hop-off system. No official welcome, no official announcements to inform guests, no nautical information, no getting to know anyone else properly as they might be leaving the next day, no farewell dinner. It also means that people are Constantly exploring the ship or disembarking sitting around lounges and bars with their suitcases and suitcases in front of doors every day. Then the constant money making off of everything, whether freshly squeezed orange juice or watching a film on your cabin, there is no joy to be found without extra pay. If at least then staff would make up for it with good service, but they don't. In some moments you even feel sorry for them having to put up with it all for longer than we had. We chose to disembark early to spend the rest of the holiday in Barcelona, it felt quiet there in comparison to the Meraviglia. Read Less

39 years of cruising, 30th cruise just completed. This is the 1st time I have ever uttered the words "I can't wait to get off this ship!" Website: Pros: There aren't any. Cons: Buyer Beware. See for yourself, the website is just shades of things to come. Try to navigate the counter-intuitive pages. Good luck getting assistance when you call due to the frustrating website. And once you're locked into the cruise (less than 3 months before sail date), you can't get anything resolved. Pay attention to your invoice, our invoice had to be corrected twice, the price kept increasing. Wanted to bail out at this point, but it was too late. Ship: Pros: Beautiful, brand new ship. Cons: Absolutely no sound-proofing, anywhere. From hearing the shows/disco from 2 floors beneath us, pounding music so loud that you have to leave the cabin, till 23:30-1:30 each and every night .. to hearing the next door cabin's conversations. Many complaints of noise from guests at different parts of the ship. Reception: Pros: We had to go up the chain of command to get any type of empathy or possible solution. Not really a "pro" but at least we got an appointment "4 days later" to discuss problems. Cons: Staff clearly don't understand the words "Reception" or "Guest Services". Not a smile amongst the entire group. We had to spend time in the ever-long line of Reception every single day. Anything that had to do with Reception had to be done twice, no follow-through, and don't expect any apologies from anyone. To quote the Reception Manager, "We have a lot of problems with this ship." Housekeeping: Pros: Well done, exceptionally clean cabins and ship. Cons: None Dining: Pros: Staff Cons: Food is borderline airplane food; served cold, or at best lukewarm. Very limited menu. Waiters are forced to "sell" at your table for better food and wine. Buffet: Pros: Available 20 hours a day. Cons: Everything is cold. Staff unable to replenish choices in a timely manner. Entertainment: Pros: The "only" entertainment that "might be" free on this ship, are some of the shows. Cons: High school talent show at best. Disappointing. Every single entertainment option available on this ship comes at a cost. And since there's nothing free to do, EVERYONE is stuck in the narrow promenade just to "do" something. MSC obviously wants you spending money, not relaxing and enjoying your time on-board. Spa: Pros: You can get a massage. Cons: It's sandwiched in the middle of the ship, not a window in sight. Cramped little areas. Didn't get much use of it since it was so small and always full of guests. Nothing beautiful or relaxing about this spa. Excursions: Pros: The best thing because you can get off this ship. Cons: None. Staff: Pros: There are a few smiling faces. Cons: You get the feeling they're not happy and it filters through to the guests. It seems they are more interested in what's easiest for them .. not you, their guests. Overall: 3 months of "conversations" prior to cruise, correcting errors, struggling with website. 7 nights without sleep once on-board. 7 days of constant aggravation from the staff forced to "sell" you more. At least in Jamaica you can walk away. It seems that MSC has forgotten how to treat their guests. It also seems that they are simply trying to recoup the price of their new ship. It's an experience we will never forget and will never recommend MSC on their new greed driven venture. Read Less

We booked principaly to see the Cirque du soleil performance and have been on many MSC cruises before. This ship is ghastly in side and out. The décor in the balcony cabin was dark and depressing the view being partially obscured by a life boat which they failed to mention when booking. I think they got TK Max or the Range to do the furnishings. The ship was full of all nationalitys the result of which was over crowding at every event and facility. The buffet was akin to being in a lunatic asylum- pushing ,shouting, no manners , people making pigs of themselves etc. Security on and off the ship was shambolic ,queing not enough staff, rude and ill mannered. We had a meal in the Cirque du soleil - the chaos had to be seen to be believed in the dinner serving. All with rip off prices and lack lustre service. I could go on for ages with what was wrong with this ship but hey ho they never listen any way If this is the future of cruising then count me out! Read Less

We have been cruising for over 35 years, and never have we had a bad cruise, till now. We have cruised with Costa before on many of their ships, so we were under no illusion it would be noisy, particularly as it was a large ship, however, it was only a 7 nighter and it was going were we wanted it to, so we thought we'd make the most of it. Our first impression of the ship was very favourable, it was a beautiful high tech ship. The cabins were very comfortable and the staff were very good and tried to please where they could. The shows too were a very good standard, and that was were the pluses ended. I'll list the negatives which sadly far outweighed the pluses: 1. There was very little seating around public areas for such a large number of people. 2. No cultural activities, not even on sea days. 3. The food in the restaurants was mediocre with very little choice in the buffet and the quality was not brilliant. 4. The wine packages were very restrictive and the selection of wines on offer on these packages were not of good quality. 5. Worst of all was the hygiene, or lack of. This was evident at the entrance to restaurants as the sanitising gel was hardly used. Even if you did use it as we did, it was rendered null and void by the waiters who handed you a tablet to sign for the drinks. After a few days, my wife and I ended up in the hospital with food poisoning, and by the looks of it, many people were affected too as the hospital was very busy. Some passengers on our table were also sick. We have a policy of never eating or drinking outside the ships precisely to avoid getting sick and spoiling our holiday, but this time, after 35 years of cruising, we got sick with food on board. Never, never again will we go on one of these cruises again, even if they were to be given to us free. Read Less
