This is our 3rd cruise on MSC. First one was on the Divina and the last two on the Seaside. The ships are beautiful and children’s prices make it affordable. From that point on everything else goes downhill. I started the meet and greet and it was run by MSC very nicely. Problems- we booked a year ago and requested the middle dinner time at 7:15 pm. We had 4 cabins linked together and we are all black card holders in the voyager club. We were assigned 5:30 pm and the person in charge refused to fix the problem. This was an aggreviating way to start the cruise. My bathroom sink was clogged and it took till day 3 to drain the water out. Unfortunately, they drained it on the bathroom floor and left it that way. Needless to say I went into the cabin to use the bathroom. I flew across the floor and got banged up with my neck, shoulder and back twisted. It led to a trip to the infirmary with a shot, muscle relaxer prescription and a kind of messed up rest of the week. The room steward left the same filthy glass all week and told me they don’t have wash cloths or tissues for the passengers. Forget the amenity of robes and slippers as black card holders. There is a disconnect between passengers and workers. As a seasoned cruiser with over 100 cruises if they want repeat American customers instead of one time cruisers they need to straighten up their act. The reservation office in Miami needs a complete retraining and the Corporate office in Naples has to take a tighter control to fix what is constantly going on. To sum it up my family has booked again for next year only because of the prices. The heads of the ship assured me the future cruise consultant on the ship would handle it correctly. Well after hearing him tell us 15 times about his 20 years of being in the business he screwed the reservations up. My travel agent will have to deal with this when he returns from vacation. Last years mistake after mistake from the Miami office took 8 months to finally fix. They would fix one thing and mess up something else. Believe me you can’t make this stuff up. MSC has to listen to its passengers and change their ways. One more thing after a years time the shows should be changed. Saw the exact same ones for the second time over a year after seeing them the first time. Read Less

Here is the good and bad. Unfortunately more bad than good. As a note I am comparing this to numerous ships at similar price points such as Norweigan and Carnival. The good: - Beautiful on the inside. Atrium is amazing. New ship you expect this. - Employees very friendly - Nice cabins. We had a balcony - Jacuzzis many available and nice - Gym is nice - Buffet food was good - Quickest embarking of any cruise ship. Nice and fast. The bad: - The pools were the worst we have seen. All adult pools 6 1/2 feet deep no shallow end. All very small and only 2 main ones plus salt water. Bottom line if you want nice pools this is not your ship - Constantly getting harassed to spend more money on special restaurants, internet packages and drink packages. I am here to relax not get hit on while I am on a deck chair or drinking. - Wi-Fi speed was shocking. You don't need to buy unlimited internet as it is impossible to consume more than the standard package - Entertainment was the worst we have seen. Just not many shows at all. Other cruises have non stop entertainment but you are left bored unless you want to drink - Only one restaurant you can eat for free outside the two buffets otherwise they want more money - Free room service difficult to get hold of. Tried for 30 minutes one night and gave up - Arcade nice but small. Bigger problem is that you have to book hours in advance to use popular activities like bowling and race car. Read Less

We have cruise in the past on various lines and this rates against TUI. RCI offer a very good service with friendly and happy staff. MSC offer a bad service on a big ship From the time of boarding to the time we left 7 days later, MSC try everyway possible to mess up your holiday It starts when you check in in Miami, We get out of the cab and I asked where to put our cases to be told, leave them their, pay me a tip and they will be loaded. We then go into Terminal F at our given time and que for 45 minutes to get serviced, they have about 50 or 60 booths and half are open. When we got to the counter our check in person had no personality. I asked about our wrist bands as we were Aurea Class (I thought and had paid for), to be told you have to get this when on the boat, as we then got on the boat I saw people wearing the bands and they have been issues in the terminal. After we then queued for nearly 1 hour we got our bands. As soon as we got on the boat staff were trying to sell meals, excursions and photo's and this became annoying. More like timeshare sellers in Tenerife. We then went to our room, Aurea class in a went for our spar treatment it took them 15 minutes to find us in the system. I think Aurea is a way of charging more but you have to request everything when you are on board. Even at dinner you never have the same table or waiters. With a drinks package its hard to find a bar that is not full when its sea days or around meal times. Bar staff are very slow The sports bar didn't even open for England V USA ladies football and there were a lot of English and americans trying to find a place to watch it My wife went to customer relations on the Friday to ask why we had pink labels to disembark when Aurea was black. The advisor onboard was rude and questioned why we asked the question. Getting off was a joke. Our time was 09.30 and we got off at 10.45, we were told due to the high amount of people taking there own luggage off they couldn't release our baggage. Don't pay the daily service fee for tips. Ask them to take off your bill and pay tips to who you want to with envelopes they will provide and this is much cheaper The good points were they cabin staff are great and cant do enough to help when they have the full details The excursions were OK but you could book the same via Viator at about 70% of the price I will certainly never go with MSC again as RCI and likes are 100% better Read Less

Stateroom: Our stateroom was spacious and clean. The beds are super comfy. This was the best part of our trip. Food/Dining: Terrible! The food in the dining room was not very appealing. Most nights they had a steak, pasta, and chicken option. The chicken breast was dry, the steak was bland, and the pasta also dry. The food in Marketplace consisted of mostly pizza, burgers/hot dogs, and fries. They tried to put a spin on "ethnic" food which was mostly rice and some kind of beef stew. The hours of operation were also horrible. The other buffet, Biscayne Bay, was only open for breakfast and lunch and was a bit better than Marketplace. Both buffets closed around the same time to make the transition from breakfast to lunch items or lunch to dinner. Which if you didn't eat breakfast you would need to wait til noon for one of the buffets to open. Why not leave one buffet to run straight through so people are not left hungry. We also had the Drinks on Us package which were basically rail drinks and they charge 15% service charge on all drinks order (soda, water, cocktails). Entertainment/Pool/Activities: The shows in the theater were actually pretty good. A lot of dancing and colorful props were very entertaining. The improv shows were a riot. Loved the cast, they did a good job. The pools were a joke. All started at either 6ft or 8ft so most people were hanging on the side and not really swimming. The kids water park was the only suitable place for kids to swim and you would find some adults without kids hanging about because the other pools were too deep. My daughter loved the water park and we were there mostly everyday. Ports: Jamaica was our first stop. It was beautiful and the beach was just a walk away which was very convenient. The next stop was Grand Cayman. The debarkation was not organized at all. You had to rush to get a ticket to get on a smaller boat to get to the island. The wait was so long and hectic we decided to call it quits and went to the water park. In Mexico, the heat was unbearable. We did a little shopping and returned to the boat. And lastly the Bahamas, we paid $20 each way for our group of 5 (child did not pay) to get to the closest beach. We rented a couple of chairs and umbrellas and had a great time swimming. Customer Service: The worst part of this experience was the customer service. Most of the staff members did not seem enthusiastic of being there. Most were rude except housekeeping. The patrons of the ship were also rude. No elevator etiquette (let people off before you try to enter) and sitting on the stairs blocking traffic and refuse to move when you are trying to get around them. I've only been on one other cruise before and I know for sure I will never travel on MSC Seaside again. Read Less

This is my ninth cruise and this was the worst one I have been on. The good parts of it was loading and unloading passengers it was quick and easy. However, Lets start with the ship, when the ship started moving there was no party like there was on the other ones. The pools closed as early as 10 o clock. There were not as many parties and the music for them was really bad. The parties also ended at 2 o clock so afterwards there was nothing to do after and everything is about money. My daughter had a fun pass that I purchased and when I went to the deck to get her the bracelet the guy was trying to charge me twice for it. The site did not specify that the fun pass had credit and was not unlimited either. We also purchased an internet package which was 3 GB's for two devices. They charged me 300 dollars when I had bought 100 dollar package. When I went to guest services I had to argue with them and they only took off 100 dollars but gave me 5.5 GB's. We were charged an extra service fee of 87.50 per person as the tip for the people working and we were not informed that it was not included in the booking they put it on afterwards. For the photos they were very disorganized and when I asked for help the person working told me to "calm down" so my daughter yelled at him. It was very rude. During dinner the same waiter kept taking my daughter to dance to the music they had in the restaurant but would not keep it professional and asked for instagram and he continuously kept messaging her. The guy cleaning the rooms did a horrible job cleaning the room and the room always smelled strange he never took out the trash and on the last day my daughter forgot her license in the room so she went back to go get it and she found the guy who was cleaning our room smoking a cigarette on the balcony of our room. In a non smoking room. The cabin is extemely small compared to the ones on the other cruise ships I have been on. The timing of the ports was also horrible. We arrived at Puerto Rico at 5 PM on the third day and left at midnight which there was not much to see cause it was night time. On the fourth night we arrived at Virgin Islands at 7 AM and left at 6 which was good timing. On the fifth night though we arrived at St Maartin and didn't have time to do anything because we arrived from 6 AM to 1 PM. On the sixth night we were still at sea. Then the seventh night we arrived at the Bahamas from 7 AM to 6 PM and it was a disaster since it was the day before we left so we had to leave the island early to get our photos and pack our luggage up, every other cruise I have been on we would be at sea on the day before leaving the ship. The food was the same in the buffet we did not get any changes and it was awful. Me and my friend ordered the same food in the restaurant and got food poisoning from it. The only thing there was to do on the ship was swim during the day and drink at night. The only night club there was, was filled with younger people as young as 18, there were not multiple clubs like there was on the other ships. I would never sail with MSC again and it was triple the price of Carnival which is the best ship line I have sailed with. Also I called 4 times for more hangers and I did not get them till I told one of the people working outside I needed them. I came on this ship to relax but this was anything but relaxing. Read Less

We went with family/friends. The ship is beautiful but is run very poorly. My room was dirty and I always bring Lysol wipes with me so I cleaned it myself. We saw the guy maybe 4 times and he was nice but not very thorough when cleaning. (He left a plate with food on it for two days on the dresser). We were told out room was to have a see through balcony with glass and it had metal on the bottom so we couldn't see out unless we stood up. Very few people to help you navigate the ship and the signage is almost non existent. The maîtred in the ship restaruant was very good as was the mgr of the ship's buffet. The food was just okay; sometimes good and sometimes not so good. The ship has many drink packages and they screwed up most of them. The people on the ship including the employees complained where ever we went. More complaints than compliments. No need to get a drink package unless you plan to spend more than what you pay in drinks. Both with and without alcohol. The non alcohol package came with soft ice cream which they gave to anyone and it was rarely available but when the machines where working, it was very good. This package was supposed to come with flavored water etc... and they had no idea what this is. In other words we got screwed royally. The entertainment was good but very repetitive; acts were repeated each night to a different stage ie... lights, costumes etc... Some of them were very good and some seemed to need more practice as they were out of sync a lot when dancing. The stingray excursion in the Cayman's was excellent and I highly recommend it but it is less expensive going on your own than booking through the ship. The last day in the Bahamas was terrible as the ship failed to tell us that it was their labor day and most everything was closed so after walking around in the heat we went back to the ship's swimming pool. The pools are not big enough to accommodate the amount of people on the ship and not enough pool seating. The casino was just okay and I never saw all the games up and running at one time. Few personnel to take drink orders and fix machines when necessary. Not enough slot machines overall compared to other cruise lines. The bars were so understaffed that you had to wait and wait to just get a bottle of water. The people working there tried their best but they are so understaffed I can't express this enough. You wait forever to get someone to answer the phone when calling down to the desk. This ship is not ready for the American market. They cater to the European market. Americans expect to see people smiling and being nice, cleaning all the time and making sure you keep the germs to a minimum. This is not expected the European market I was told. I spoke with many people on this ship and only one person had all nice things to say. I am being very sincere and not exaggerating. I love to cruise but this is my first and last cruise on this cruise line. Read Less

Went with 30+ neighbors. Everyone was saying they should have had 500 less people and 500 more staff positions. First day was a nightmare. Door key wouldn't work; was told to go to guest services. Since it was day one and crowded we waited in line at least 30-40 minutes. It was a little before 2:00 p.m. so was told it should work now. Went back up and it didn't work. Asked room steward to let us in but he said we would have to go to guest services. Another trip and waiting in LONG line and they gave us new keys. Back up 9 floors and long walk to room (still carrying luggage we came on board with) - new key didn't work. Another ten minutes to get to deck five (elevators took 2 times to get onto due to crowd). Waited in line another half hour. Was told this time to go to room and they would have someone meet us there. Waited at our room for almost an hour. I even pretended to have had an issue and laid in the middle of the hallway hoping to have someone come to us instead of us going to them. After 20 minutes I realized cameras were of no value (except in Casino - lol). FOURTH time went down to guest services, waited in line a half hour and was told I probably had the wrong room or wasn't using key correctly - REALLY??? TRYING HARD to keep my patience (wasted 3-4 hours by now), so this time someone came up with us. Of COURSE he couldn't get into room and then determined it was the card reader and SOMEONE WOULD COME TO OUR ROOM AND FIX IT IN TEN MINUTES (we at least were FINALLY left into our room at this point). We waited two hours - phone didn't have any extensions to call and I think I hit about every extension possible to no avail). By the way, we were told the room steward had the afternoon off after getting our rooms ready (we found a housekeeper on another floor before we got left into our room and that is what she told us - after she came and tried our keys to no avail too). So finally our room steward returned and called for help on his phone. Someone came and HONEST TO GOD - SAID HE WOULD RETURN SHORTLY - I EVEN SAID HOW MANY MINUTES AND HE SAID GIVE ME 10-15. Well, NO ONE FREAKINIG RETURNED. We missed dinner and we were furious. Since we were there with 30+ neighbors they told us to let them know as they should at least offer us a specialty dinner or one day refund. After very nicely explaining what happened at guest services they let us talk to someone else and told us to stop down later or tomorrow and they would let me know what they would do. Stopped down the next day and nothing was done. The guy could see from the screen that we had issues and went back into a room and told us they would send something to our room. And guess what they sent for eight hours of NOTHING but aggravation - a simple bottle of champagne. Other than that, food was nothing like other cruise lines and elevators were atrocious - so crowded that most times it was impossible to get on first time. Buffet was a zoo - you couldn't even walk around to get your food. The ship was beautiful though. Read Less

I was offered a deal for this trip which included alcohol and some beverages. The price was not to bad. With that said, here are the bullet points. I will list the bad first so we can end this on a good note for MSC. I had heard that getting on and off the ship was quite difficult. We didn't have to much trouble except they had two men double booked into our room with my fiancé and I. They didn't take them off but just said not to worry about it. We kept seeing their names of everything we did for about 3 days and then were removed from the list. At most ports they only had one person doing disembarkations even when there were 3 stations. We did see them use 3 people twice and when we left the ship on the last day. The first thing that happened which was not the way to set the mood was that I went to the bar and asked for a glass of prosecco or champagne (our drink package included all beer and wine and bottom shelf cocktails up to $6) and was told quite rudely that it wasn't included in my package. After paying for a glass I went to a different bar and was told the same thing. At dinner they brought the wine list and there was champagne for $6. I asked and the waiter said, of course its included, with a very nice smile. This continued for the next few days with one bartender saying yet and one saying no. At the CC cocktail event I asked to speak to the bar manager. A not so very pleasant individual who said there must be a lack of understanding and communication and walked away. Not sure if he said anything to the staff but I didn't have that problem again. The room was clean and well furnished but with only a chair in the room and two small draws like sock draws there was no place to put our clothes. We had to live out of our luggage for 8 days which we had to put on the chair and the two small nightstands we had to bring around for that purpose. Food, While I wasn't impressed with the food it wasn't terrible. Not what I would expect from a European cruise line, especially the Italian items. The tiramisu was nothing but sponge cake with not lady finger to be found. The chicken parm, I don't even know what to say about that. We left dinner without eating and went to the buffet, on ITALIAN NIGHT, on an Italian cruise line!! I am posting some pictures to show some of these things as well. WE did pay for the upgrade to two dinners. What is called the duo. We chose the steak restaurant and the Asian restaurant. We didn't really see anything on the menu that came in the package but was told that if we want to upgrade we would only pay half of the listed price, remember, on top of what we paid which was about $35 a person per meal. We upgraded to a tomahawk steak for two and two main lobster tails (see picture of tails and menu). these were not Maine lobsters but warm water tails. The steak was cooked almost to perfection but wasn't seasoned to much. Kind of bland. The tails ( we ordered 2) were quite small. When the bill came they had charged us full price for the tails and half price for the steak. They said that only one item would be reduced, of course. The bill was about $159 plus what we paid already and we were about $230. Little steep in my book Entertainment reviews were not very good. Complaining that there was a lot of opera. Not on this cruise. Entertainment wasn't bad. Not a big as other lines I've been on but ok. Its not a very big theatre so not very big shows. Mostly circus type theatre. Acrobatics on the stage with singing. I do not understand why they put a platform in the middle of the pool deck. I see the big H (helicopter) on it so it may have been required by law but to cut your pool deck by more than half was a mistake. It was very hard to find a lounge chair and if you went up to the other levels they allow smoking, including cigar smoking. We had to move quite a few times. The itinerary for the ports was done poorly. We got to Puerto Rico at 5 PM and left at 11:30pm. Not much you can do or see at night. St. Thomas was full day and our best port. St. Marteen was another half day from 11:30-5:30. Nassau was also a half day. Maybe loose a port and stay longer. For the first 4-5 days there are people trying to sell you upgrades to both dinners and drinks. It was a little much after the first day. With all that negativity here are some pluses. Our cabin steward was awesome. Always there and if we had a request he was right on it. The ship was clean and neat, if not laid out to get from one end to the other without changing floors. The food in the buffet was decent, not great, but not bad. At the Cruise Critic cocktail event the captain honestly told us the reason for the cocktails and cake was so we would all write wonderful reviews. I'm glad for his honesty but that's a little much. MSC- Money Sucking Cruise When my friends invited me on a 8 night 7 day cruise (this being my first time ever going,) I was highly estatic and filled with excitement at the possibilities of seeing sights and enjoying myself on a beautiful ship. First off, some background info is due. I am a military vet and I also have around ten years of experience of clientel, service, sales, and management. From our first step on the boat my party was offered dinning and drinking packages, understandable it being the first day (we all received a basic drinkers package and 3gbs of wifi with our itinerary,) but the sales NEVER STOPPED. When I say never, they were trying to sell us packages on our last day while we were eating dinner! Putting salesmanship behind me, my party was very much looking forward to night swimming and enjoying ourselves when all the kids were in bed. Negative. MSC closes their pools 6pm regardless if the sun is still up. Don't ask me why or how, but if they are lacking night time lifeguards they can sure use those salesmen offering us stupid packages! Which brings me to my next point: if you want to be served at the bar, expect those "free" 14 alcoholic drinks (which are limited basically to gin and coke, mosquitos, and long islands ONLY,) expect them to come in little fake plastic glass cups, be warm and roughly 30 minutes late. Don't like the drink? My friend MSC has your back! Go to another bar and it'll be served completely different and also in a different sized cup. First stop, the wonderful and beautiful streets of Pureto-Rico. We landed roughly around 6:30 and we were due back around 12 am...guess we are drinking again tonight fellas because everything else was closed! The majority of the food? Required reservations ahead of time (if you do find yourselves in the happy lands of heat and music, please order a Mofongo from your boy, thank me later). Our first day at sea in my opinion was a wonderful experience...thats only if you enjoy pools (that close at six mind you!) and sun. The waters were warm and I believe from the ocean since they were salty (I prefer cold water to refresh me when I swim personally,) and we found ourselves multiple times searching for a spot to sit and raise a flag for it was crowded. Beware of the main pool on deck 16! Looks like a giant pool but half of it is ankle deep? What?! When the sun became bothersome I found myself in the wonderful MSC casino..if you are a gambler like me, I hope you enjoy one blackjack table and one table of 3 card poker against dealer...besides that there are slots... enjoy! Oh and no smoking unless you enjoy facing the corner wall!!! Our other stops (St. Thomas, Bahamas, Virgin Isles,) I highly recommend you walk off port and find your own "extersion" we hired a driver for 20 dollars a person and received a 3 hour tour of one of the isles and it was wonderful. In comparison I paid 89 dollars to touch a sting Ray for five minutes then sat on the beach on one of the Bahamas islands...you do the math. Now we get to some juice, put on your reading glasses folks (if you haven't already, sorry for the long review!) because here is where it gets good in the third act. You. Will. Be. Charged. 87 dollars and 50 cents for room service. Even if you don't use them / call them / need them (like my party,) not in the paperwork you say? Say no more! Step on board and welcome to MSC! May I offer you one of our wonderful and expensive food packages while you are enjoying your dinner with your family? Please note, all of the above was told to 3 staff members and one manager who ended our conversation with "If you have any problems call customer service" and literally ran away to hide from me without wishing me a good day or sorry for my troubles (I spoke sival, lucid, and clear where the manager clearly didn't speak English.... properly.) Money Sucking Cruise gets one fat star for the beauty, the music at the nightlife (after 11pm the Disco room behind the arcade that is NEVER used is the place to be (25 dollars for 30 minutes of bowling what?!)) and they also get one star for a wonderful server and waitress who provided 5 star performance at dinner (buffett only had hot dogs and burgers from 11-5pm what?!) before their manager told them to stop socializing with us (which we resented him for) So please don't choose MSC...please don't... MSC really not for the USA market. Have cruised many operators globally (RCCL, Carnival, NCL, Celebrity, Disney, Windstar ......). MSC pricing to attract USA travellers appears to be good value, very good at first sight. Till you get onboard. All-inculsive package you get charged 15% service for each drink, even with a package if your drink is over the basic allowance, you pay the full drink price not just the difference/upgrade amount. Even premium dining was not great and was expensive. Food was the bland. the all in drinks package is a real work of genius. If you can get a drink of any description at any bar in less than 25 minutes even if the bar is empty, you are doing well. Worst of all was the attitude of at least 90% of staff is unacceptable in my view Ship public areas are a mix, some impressive, some cramped. Cabins are smaller than most modern ships but adequate. No towel animals or nice touches, its basic. You get what you pay for. They forget or not care you are paying for a vacation, staff are patronising, arrogant, lazy, aggressive and struggle with many basic polite communication skills. Will never sail with them again. based on my first MSC experience. To top things of they appear to have a lack of hygiene policy as sanitizers did not work in most areas and shampoo/body wash was watered down in cabins and struggle to get fresh towels. Entertainment was mixed also. Read Less

We had a balcony room and was very excited for this cruise. Room and ship was nice. Mattress was uncomfortable to me but I'm pretty particular about whatI sleep on. Buffet food was ok but it was literally the same EVERY night for a week. Dining room food was terrible and always served cool. I only liked one night of the dining room food. My table mates also didn't care much for it. The shows were nice although somewhat repetitive. They decided to wash the balcony room glass banister while in St.Thomas. This actually made my balcony area dirtier than before. Had all kinds of hair and dead bugs on my balcony that wasn't there before. Plus it soaked all of the outside eating area on deck 8 so there wasn't any seats left inside during the lunch rush after returning to the ship after a day on the island. Just horrible planning. There were more issues but I think anyone can see how this cruise went. I did like how they are not in your face to take pics all the time but they are always pushing their specialty dining restaurants and drink packages. The ship is understaffed. Maybe it will be better when they get fully staffed. Hopefully food will get better. For now I'll stick with Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, or Carnival. Oh and twice during our trip their were toilet issues so toilets on our floor wouldn't flush. Read Less

The Beerprov comedy team was incredible, although if you can't stomach some tasteless humour then it wouldn't be for you Adult activities: Every night in the lounge, they have short but fun adult activities - name that tune, majority rules, etc. Very fun stuff, and we even won a bottle of champagne! The MSC staff that run these activities are the best staffers on the ship The App: The MSC app is excellent. Daily itineraries and an ability to book show tickets, plus maps for the lost. Very very good. Others: Nice large bathroom in the suite, never felt crowded, gym had amazing equipment The Bad Stuff Service: Very slow and often unfriendly. One or two cruise staff were also downright hostile at times. Not enough staff in certain areas, particularly bars. Wait staff very slow at times as well. Food: Dull, uninspired, inconsistent... The buffet for breakfast was the same buffet every morning. The lunch buffet was the same. Very little variety from day to day. Also very limited offerings. The evening dinners were mediocre at best, and don't expect anything like lobster night without an upcharge. The prime rib was as thin as a pencil and overcooked. Worst food I've ever had on a cruise The smell: Oh my goodness, our bathroom smelled like a portable toilet. Several spots on the ship also occasionally smelled like sewage. Other stuff: Ran out of several types on wines on my drink package, although I wondered if they just didn't feel like opening more bottles. Took 48 hours to get a working room safe. Towels sometimes missing from out bathroom. Missing cutlery from the table. The Ugly Stuff Disembarkation: Absolute chaos. Several thousand people in a line that snaked endlessly around the ship. People were picking fights. It was an ugly scene Read Less

We chose this cruise to experience new ports alongside being able to do back to back 14 nights. Our aim was to have a lovely, romantic escape. We upgraded to the Aurea experience especially so that we could escape to the ‘exclusive sundeck’ that promised to offer ‘complete tranquility’ - but more of that later. Firstly, there are some things about this ship that are amazing. The thermal spa area which, with the Aurea package, you have unlimited access to provides steam rooms, aromatherapy, sauna and jacuzzi. We weren’t brave enough to try the snow room ! But we utilised the spa area virtually every day and on some days as a tactic to escape the chaos on board. The staff are friendly, helpful and genuinely welcoming. Excellent! The service and the jazz in the Seaview Lounge (deck 8) were excellent. Highly recommended! Similarly, the Sports bar (deck 8) turned out to be a find - the chicken wings are scrumptious (extra cost). Also novel and useful were the interactive screens (mainly located near the lifts) that enable you to find out the day’s activities plus book online for shows and restaurant tables using your wrist band. We also enjoyed the shows, live entertainment and ambience of the champagne bar. Sadly, not everything about our cruise was a delight. The Aurea sundeck (deck 19) on the first sea day was unbearably overcrowded and the staff simply unable to cope (I queued for 30 mins to get a drink). It was also crowded with chain smokers who seemed to care little about staying in their designated area. The pool staff ultimately had to act as bouncers ensuring that only those who had paid the Aurea upgrade were let in. They were certainly kept busy! And there were fights for seats / sun beds. Hardly the tranquil experience as advertised! There is a lot of commentary on this site about the food. And I concur. It was bland and, at times, inedible. How can an Italian cruise liner get risotto and osso bucco so wrong? The former was undercooked and inedible, and the latter seemed to have missed the gremolata entirely. Note - The elegant evening menu (ie. formal) does not include lobster unlike other cruise lines. And also as mentioned on this site, the Marketplace menu is the same each day. The freshly baked pizza is a safe and delicious option. More worryingly from a health and hygiene perspective is that the hand sanitizers in the public areas and restaurants never seemed to be full (I ended up using my own) and the toilets in the public areas that are supposed to be auto-flush often didn’t seem to work. Our cabin was okay but certainly smaller than other cruise ships and was already showing signs of wear and tear. The wardrobe / cupboard space was only just adequate for the two of us but again, much less generous than other cruise lines. The worst aspect was that we had to query two transactions on our bill that were erroneously added. We, along with many others, seemed to spend quite a while queuing at customer services, One charge was for a bottle of wine we didn’t consume. The other charge was for photos we didn’t have taken. Note - check your online account carefully every few days and certainly before you disembark. The back to back process was chaotic - no one seemed to know where we should go or the process (we felt like the lost tribe of B2Bs!). But, in the end, we were back on board and enjoying a well earned cocktail! Overall, we won’t be sailing with MSC again. Other cruise liners offer better service, better quality dining options and better overall experience. Read Less

We booked this family cruise for a family anniversary . They were first time on msc but had cruised before . We had done msc divina twice before . I had told them how great the food was and ship . We watched a channel 5 program on this and was expecting great things The atrium is grand and beautiful just as the divina had been . The staff as on another review left allot to be desired many on the food court deck 8 were nothing short of lazy and certainly it was not kept to levels you would expect . Mum even commented are we in mcds clear it yourself n dirty tables . After few days we complained . Various family me,beers encounter filthy toilets disgusting in fact . Some were even showing signs of wear and it's a new ship ! Mum got locked in toilet after handle fell off !! Our cabin a balcony certainly was smaller than divina . Sliding wardrobe at side of bec a larger person would struggle to get down . No life jackets in wardrobe . We thought marks on floor were dirt it was wear already ! Signs of rust on shower cubicle Dining room was very disappointing . The divina is by far nicer ambience . Staff as in previous review were not great nor was the food . Positives one staff me,ber guest services Andreas . As someone else mentioned issues drinks package my brother had same issues . He couldn't even have Budweiser n pay difference had to my whole amount or have miller . His wife had similar issues her drinks . We had water package to be told only at meal times ... and still found it billed !!!! Bar staff on deck 8 were rarely attentive but were to their own staff eating on same deck The spa and hair salon were definitely positive experience . Thankful for that as by day 4 I was happy to have got off n flown home ! We were not only passengers tired seeing dirty tables and resorted to clearing it and gelling it with antibacterial ourselves . After seeing tables left unlearned and piled up for almost an hour we decided to do ourselves . Speaking to senior staff they admitted were issues that were going to be looked into and reported . We pointed out that with 5000 passengers surely hygiene standards was paramount ! Definitely felt whilst certain areas were beautiful cheaper materials and workmanship in other areas Would be interested to see if the problems we raised are sorted or it stays at same level Read Less

Recently (4-6-2019) traveled on MSC cruise to the western Caribbean on board the Seaside. The ship was fabulous and most of the crew was great. Unfortunately the excursion at Jamaica (OCH42) fell well below MSC standards. This was a snorkel / beach trip. The loading of the boat took approximately ½ hour, then the snorkel stop was only 20 minutes. The beach stop was at an abandoned or shut down motel. The beach and water was very dirty and trashy. Local drug dealers trying sell their goods. The crew of the boat dropped everybody off at the trashy beach and then pulled the boat into harbor and anchored, The crew then took about 2 hour nap. The loading of guest after their nap was very dangerous. They used a ramp/steps from the front of their boat lowered into the water while it was lisping up down due to waves. Should have used the dock at the trashy resort. I know these excursions are private contractors, but MSC should oversee or evaluate these contractors. All-inclusive drinks is a laugh at MSC. They serve non-alcoholic beer and only serve 35 proof liquor in there mixed drinks. Under staffed bars and long lines to get served. WIFI does not work in cabins and is sketchy in common areas. House band played elevator music (Neil Diamond, John Denver), The band was very talented but MSC selected music they could play. Other musicians and singers should have walked the plank ! The Michael Jackson tribute show was outstanding ! Read Less

Context: this is our 23rd cruise, and we've been on almost all the medium priced carriers. Given that MSC is fairly new to the American market, we were all kind of excited in anticipation of sailing with them. We had read a number of reviews here and were struck with just about everyone exclaiming how much they appreciated the modern look of the ship and how clean and elegant it seemed to be. That turned out to be true. Where we were really disappointed in how they took care of their over 5000 guests on board ,the entertainment, and the food. They clearly didn't have enough elevators, as we were constantly waiting for a car and when one finally arrived, it would rbe completely packed with people. As to the entertainment, it was hard to understand why on Earth they would have all the acts that they did every night, doing the same things. The costuming was wonderful but these acts just made no sense relative to a night's theme: acrobats, strong men, silk twirler, hoop twirlers jugglers. ballroom dancers every night they would be onstage during the same act and we could never figure out why or what they had to do with the theme of the show. The food was a whole different issue. The buffets serve the same food day in and day out and that got very boring. But normally you can go to the diningroom and count on at least something that would be a decent meal. Almost every night the entrees were bland and uninteresting, and had very little taste and were cooked incorrectly, either way overdone or under cooked and always cold. They also would close down the buffets at odd hours in the middle of the day, when you would think would be prime time for people to eat. So we would go to one of the buffets mid afternoon and ffind half of the venue shut down or the entire thing closed. With more than 5000 people on board that was just incredibly annoying. Bottom line: MSE has a lot to learn about servicing the American market and we will never go back and sail with them again. A very disappointing experience. Read Less

I've just got back from cruising with MSC Seaside. It was a terrible time to cruise with MSC. I had nothing to do on the ship. There was not much of entertainment. Maketplace Food buffet had not many varieties of food to offer. They had pizza, hamburgers, and hotdogs for the main food for you every single meal of the day: breakfast, lunch, after lunch snack, dinner, and midnight snack for 7 days straight that we were on the cruise. They would close the buffet on the dot, put all the food away, and only one or two counters left the serve the food. In my opinion, they were trying to upselling their dinner and drink package by forcing people not to have much choice for food on the buffet. Moreover; one time, I saw they were putting back fruits they put away from previous meal for you to eat. You know how the fruits that are not fresh cut and been refrigerated. Also, it's very annoying when they tried to sell you all those dinner and drink packages. This is definitely overrated. I didn't bother to go see the show of them. I'd walked around and saw people playing cards; even young kids, they played UNO. They must be very bored and had nothing better to do. There are not many shopping shops on the Seaside, so nothing much to check out. There is a screen TV at the aft of the ship. Unfortunately the choice of their movie on the night that I went to give a try was very boring "Spiderman Home coming." The cabin was so so, nothing fancy. The sheet, comforter, towels, and stuff were old, had a lot of lints It's very irritated to my skin. Towels were smells and ripped. One of the destinations was Puerto Rico, arrived at 5pm. What they want us to do at 5pm and we had to be on board by 1am. or 1.30pm, and there were nothing much to walk around and see either. It's not very impressive for the first time with MSC. I wanted to go home on the second day that I was on the cruise!!! Oh..there a good thing about MSC. Their desserts are pretty good. They are not extremely sweet like desserts on the main land in the US. They are good at creativity and recycling as well. They would use leftover fruits and nuts to make cakes and other desserts, very delicious indeed. I've heard pizza are very good too, but I'm not a huge fan of pizza. Read Less

First off, the boat was beautiful. We had no problems with the cleanliness of our room and our cleaning lady was great except for the few times she didn’t give us face towels. When we boarded the ship there were staff from the few restaurants offering us a “deal” for dinner. So my boyfriend and I said sure why not. Later that night we decided we were tired and decided not to go. When I called to cancel, the man told us that it would be a $10 fee to cancel the reservation because we didn’t cancel 24hrs before our reservation time. How can I cancel 24hrs before if I have only been on the cruise for 3 hours?? That was the first annoying thing. The second thing was registering your MSC Cruise Card. You HAD to put money on it starting from $100 and up. We had no idea because that wasn’t in our paperwork and it was our frist cruise so we didn’t know if that was the norm. So he put $100 and that money went fast!! When we booked the trip we booked the Fantastica package which said it came with 12 free drinks pp but we never got those. We had to pay for allllll the drinks we got even soda. So we decided to just drink water. Then my boyfriend and I decided to treat ourselves and get a drink at the main bar. My boyfriend gave the bartender a $5 tip and we left. Then later that night we checked our bill on the TV and saw that we had already been charged a 15% gratuity on our drinks already. We had no idea that they did that otherwise my boyfriend wouldn’t have given him the $5. Then as we looked at our bill we say that there was a $25 dollar charge on his account. We couldn’t figure out what that was as we hadn’t bought anything but those two drinks. The charge was labeled “service charge”. So my boyfriend called the reception desk and they said that each person is charged a $12.50 service charge for “tips for all the crew members, cleaning staff, and dining staff.” We were extremely upset because were young and we were on a budget and we had worked so many hours to save up the money to go on this cruise just to find out that we had to pay an extra $200 between the two of us to tip people who had never even waited on us. How is that fair? I’d rather tip people who directly served us or cleaned our room. I think that was ridiculous. Then on like day 6 of the cruise, our toilet like stopped working. It took them like an hour to come and fix it and then the next morning we woke up to a loud noise and realized that our toilet had no water. They finally got it fixed but it was really annoying at the time. Lastly, disembarkation was a MESS. We woke up early to make any last payments on our accounts and packed up our stuff to leave. We got to level 6 and the line was SOOOOOOO long. We waited an hour in line to get off. When we got to the part where they scanned our cards to disembark, the man said he couldn’t let my boyfriend and I off the ship cause we still had payments to make. It’s a good thing I kept the receipts from the transactions because they were giving us a hard time about paying these fees. Overall, the cruise ship itself was nice, clean and most of the crew was pretty friendly. But the hidden fees and the unorganization on the ship was enough for my boyfriend and I to say were never going back on a MSC Cruise again. Read Less

We choose this cruise ship, because I had heard good things about MSC and this cruise fitted our dates and where we wanted to go. A Group of 6 of us from America and the UK all booked to go together as we live on opposite sides of the world The ship is BIG, and there are ALOT of people on board. Although the ship is nice fitted out and still quite new, I don't feel that the public areas where big enough for the amount of people on board. Particularly the South Beach bar, which is the central area for smokers. We over 4000 people on board a smoking area an area that seats only abut 30 people given the % that is likely to smoke out of 4000 people is just not big enough. I found the ship really unhelpful with requests. Prior to sailing we had submitted information that MSC requested to ensure that all of 6 of us where on the same dining table for dinner. When we got onboard and received the information all 3 couples were on different dinner sittings, 1 couple in different restaurant and therefore of course all not together. When we tried to change this we were told we could then only have dinner at 9.30pm Why on earth would I want my dinner at 9.30pm!! The food on board was absolutely disgusting, to the point were it was almost inedible most days. This goes for the restaurant and the buffet. We ended up having to pay extra for the special restaurants just to be able to get (semi) decent food, with this racking up for 6 of us at about $600 per evening. The ports of call where nice but the times were just not practical. Feel like I might as well not bothered going to Puerto Rico as docking at 5pm and back on board at midnight is not really helpful to see somewhere the same goes for the Bahamas, docking at 12.30pm and on board for 5pm Embarkation was ok, fairly light lines compared to what I have seen before but disembarkation was another story, just chaos As someone that has been on over 50 cruises I will not be returning to MSC Read Less

We had high hopes for this cruise, but as soon as we embarked, we felt like we were going to have concerns. Embarkation was generally easy, we got onto the ship and registered our cruise card on the self kiosks, which was hassle free. We went to our room, which an announcement was made they were ready, and after 5 minutes, we were kicked out by the cleaning staff, saying they were not done. That was a hassle. After finally getting into our room, we settled in. The cabin and ship overall was very clean, no complaints there, but the cabin design seems very inefficient, even for cruise lines. We sailed on Carnival, Royal Caribean, and Princess, and MSC was definitely the most cramped. We were not comfotable at all during the cruise in that respect. The dining experience on the ship was very bland, nothing was bad, but nothing was good. The two buffets were always crowded and difficult to find seating. They offered plenty of choices but nothing that was great. We did eat at the dining room each night and the service was okay for a cruise, not great but not bad. Not up to of our expectations. Food was very bland, but nothing bad, just average. Portions were also very small, which was fine for us but for someone expecting a large dinner, don't expect that much. The entertainment was okay, it seems like it was the exact same show every night with a different theme. Shows were 30 minutes and were generally entertaining. The theater is small, and you must reserve your seats ahead of time. We actually got kicked out of a show because we had the wrong time! Never seen anything like that before. What really made this cruise awful was the ports of call and the excursions. You are only in a few of these ports for 5 hours or less! After taking the shipboard excursions, we literally has to run back to the ship twice to make the all aboard. We did not get to see any shopping or dining in St. Maarten or Bahamas. The quality and organization of the excursions are the worst I have ever seen on a cruise. Most of the time for the excursion was travel. DO NOT TAKE THE Jeep Excursion on St. Maarten. I don't want to vent, but it ruined our trip. MSC's organization of getting people off the ship was also subpar. Everything else about our trip was subpar, the photo package was a nightmare, trying to sift through literally 10,000 photos to find yours was a joke. The internet package also eats your data very quickly, even when not using it, and everything they do on MSC is an upsell. I know they want you to upgrade, but MSC made it clear you cannot enjoy ar go into part of the ship unles you upgrade to a higher package. And finally, the service was not very good. The crew spoke very little English and did not seem to want to help. Something I also have never seen on a cruise. Overall, my interpretation would be, MSC is like a JV sports team, they are good enough to make the team, but not good enough to play on the Varsity squad. Definitely, felt like a tier 2 cruise line. They really don’t know about boat services. So Over spent on passes. Had to run down servers to get drink service.. Corporate needs to add more employees on this boat. Not enough to give adequate services. Took the grandkids 10 years ago and MSC was great, terrible now. Don’t recommend now or ever. I was not the only person not happy with the way they were handling things.. which surprised me. As I am picky. Grand son age 7 enjoyed it, 16-18 not so much. A lot of people said MSC is growing to fast, and not paying attention to quality control.. wicker chairs were in bad shape, and need replacement. Food was a little mediocre, hit and miss good one night, next not so good. Servers were good. NEED MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE STAFF, IN GUEST SERVICES. Although the young lady did try to help me for 20 minutes, but in the end I had to give up/eat $300.00. TO MANY PEOPLE.. Read Less

I had reservations about this cruise from the beginning when we booked it I wanted 5 cabins and upon paying for them my credit card locked us out after the first 2 the sales lady said no worries we will hold and pay for the rest in the morning upon morning we lost 2 cabins ended up getting back 1 which left us with 4 cabins, we weren't happy but we settled. this trip ment a lot to us as my son was asking his gf to marry him on this cruise.. we book 4 aurea rooms and had extended balconies ( do not recommend) upon arrival we booked excursions within 3 hrs was told they could not get our excursion for St Thomas and had to settle for another one (this was after we were garenteed it) then in St marten the excursion we sat on atv's waiting while the business owner was bugging out about having to many people and not enough ATVs (we booked 9 of them and only 7 showed up in our family so they had 2 extra and still didn't have enough) after sitting in the hot sun for over 30 min watching the owner run around not knowing what to do we left and found dunn buggies and rented them, more fun and no aggreivation. Back on board food was horrible only ate 1 night in the dining room 4 nights in specailty rest and 2 in buffet... food never changed and was not very good, rude workers seemed the only time they were nice was when you paid for extra stuff 1 of the front desk ladies were down right rude to us when we were trying to take out cash for the next day in bahamas,,, we had aurea and the alcohol package sucks, if you want to upgrade it has to be everone in the room, tried to explain I do not drink due to health reasons but no leway on this rule. so paid for our drinks, on this ship everything cost extra and they still treat you like crap. we ended paying a ton extra I could have gone to Atlantis in the bahamas for a week for what I paid on this cruise and still have some leftover money ( and I have gone there for a week many times) The times on port are not great PR at 5pm and leave ST Maarteen by 2... The aurea private areas after 1st day no one checked to see if you have a card to get in and was always crowded there... the boat rocks constantly even when docked so no stability.. in general not happy with this cruiseline.. but was so glad to be with my grown children and hubby and watching my son propose on the boat... oh yeah cabin stunk like cigarettes most of the trip anll 4 of my cabins and they were not cleaned when we got there, they werent vacuuemed Read Less

This was a last minute decision to try a different cruise line. We normally sail with Royal Carribean and love it. The Seaside was a beautiful ship was that was about it. The ship is not kept clean like others, public restrooms, as little as they had were disgusting and not kept very clean. All soaps on the ships, including your cabins was watered down, no suds at all. No bars of soaps in your cabin at all and shampoo in dispensers in showers so bring everything if you want proper soaps and shampoos. Rooms were ok but no fridge to put your stuff in, a sofa in front of closet and you cannot even access your clothes easy and just a few drawers in closet only. Bathrooms are tiny so you cannot be 2 people at a time in there.you have to insert your card in a slot for lights and outlets to work. Our cabin attendant never came to introduce himself , we had to approach him. Buffet was so badly organized, no control of line up, any and everywhich way they wanted, that you could not get food at times. Coffee was behind a pole so it was a disaster getting coffee in some areas. It was mostly the same items everyday and the tables were dirty. No one came around for drinks or coffee, only selling liquor. No staff handling the food had gloves on. In the buffet area they had a ice cream machine and someone had mold in their ice cream cone and they were trying to hide it, we heard from a passenger. We book a diner at the Teppanyaki grill, which is a Japanese restaurant and while the cook was doing some tricks and spinning of spatula, it accidentally flew at me, cut my water glass in half and I ended up with with glass and water all over my body. I had pieces of glasses in my arms and hand and in my clothes. First the cleaning people came and someone came and said accident happens. Glasses everywhere, even in my shoes, they made us move tables. About 5 minutes later the head guy of the restaurant came and said he had just heard of what really happened and asked if I needed medical attention and offered to have my long dress cleaned and gave us 10% off our bill. Just very poorly handles. Seemed they had no care of well being with all that glass in my arm. Luck it did not get in my eyes and the glass stopped the spatula from hitting me and having serious injuries. Main dining room could not get your diner orders right and sometimes no one would come around for any water at all for your table. Seemed like they were short staff or not sure what was going on. Bowling Alley on top of our dining room so if you had an early diner, you would hear the loud noise on top of you, they should close it during diner time. Employees did not make you feel welcome at all, only a couple had a smile and said good evening or even everywhere on the ship was the same. Some did not even know the language and could not answer you. One employee we asked questions said he came to work on this line because it’s fsmily owned and they do not have rules like the other lines like Carnival, Royal etc.... it’s more laidback and they don’t work as hard. He said he can talk more to people. You can definitely see how poorly they operate. Often there was activities going on. The shows were ok but times they were lip singing and all show music was recorded, no live music and lots of the same things at the same at shows. All shows done by onboard staff, no one comes on from other sources. Lots of different cultures on this cruise and so many were very rude, cutting in front of you for buffet like they owed the place. What was good on this ship was the shows, the coffee and the photography was outstanding. The room was clean and roomy enough for 2, the service was very good there. This is the only line that attempts to charge you for extras, the zip line, games ect. The food in the dining room was fair but not outstanding or timely by any means. The food in the buffets was not appealing, tasty or satisfying at all. Most of the time you had to clear your own table or look at food on the ground, VERY Unsatisfied with the overhaul cruise. We got a great deal on this cruise so we took it. Had never used MSC although we have cruised many times. WAY too big for us. 7,000 passengers and crew on this mega-ship! Hard to find places to sit outside, especially at the pools, elbowing people thru the buffet dining areas to get to the food, extremely long lines for all group activities (with many rude, pushy people cutting in line left and right!), lots of children running around. It was bedlam, nothing relaxing about this ship. We were on one of the upper decks at the rear of the ship so there was a constant rolling and shuddering movement in our stateroom. We were underneath the large pool so we could hear EVERYTHING being said and played on the loudspeakers up there, from morning bingo to the evening dance parties. No relaxing glasses of wine on our balcony this trip; too noisy! On the positive side, the service was very good and the food was excellent. Lessons learned for us- no more cruises on mega-ships, and be sure the cabin is mid-ship on a lower deck nowhere near the pool! Read Less
