This was our 5th cruise but our first MSC. We chose this cruise because it was a new ship and had many activities for our 2 boys (11&13). But did not know that there was an extra cost for zip lining, bowling or arcade room! We had the Aurea pkg, which was a higher end pkg that they do not provide any longer so there was a lot of confusion on board. From the moment we stepped onto the ship we encountered small issues but were annoying. Staff was very pushy as we took our first steps on board in regards to specialty dining and drink pkgs! and continued through out the week. Ship was very understaffed, private functions constantly held at the sports bar and we could not enter. sports bar only had 4 draft beer out of a list of 17!!! Some staff were rude, if you spoke Spanish or were European you were treated and served quickly. Ship was very crowded, poor service at bars. My boys were turned away at captains dinner night because they were not in long pants(nice dress shorts and button up dress shirt) we later found out people were at dinner wearing shorts and jeans! My boys were last ones served at bar for ordering pop because they were kids, only served quickly when I was present. We were on 14th floor with balcony, nice room but very small bathroom especially shower. Entertainment was a mishmash of dancing, singing and acrobatics...no real theme. Michael Jackson night was better. We witnessed someone in a scooter be denied access off ship because too difficult to visit Island....so wrong! as well they have no priority disembarkation protocol for wheel chairs, people just pushed forward to get off. Thermal spa was fantastic. Embarkation & disembarkation was quick only because we had priority in both. MSC you are a beautiful ship but boy do you have a lot of learning to do!!! we have decided to take a break from cruising and once we return it will Be ROYAL CARRIBEAN. Read Less

Second time on this ship. Easy embarkation and disembarkation. Had dinner in the Ipanema dining room.....our waiter was very personable and food was always hot when served . Cabin....very little closet space - would like to have more drawers or shelves. Love the Swarovski embedded stairways!!!! Pool area gets very crowded when at sea...........get there early to get your lounge chair! Bar service was slow at all bars......could have used more bartenders. Had the lowest internet/wifi package and service was spotty at times. Take he Behind the Ship Tour offered later in the week....very interesting and informative. Onboard shops were OK' Would book another MSC cruise in the future.....maybe a Mediterranean - depending on cost/amenities. Onboard photographers were good with varied scenes and poses. Pool on Deck 16 had lots of activities going on during the day for the kids and families,,,and good place to meet others. All said and done I would recommend MSC cruises to other friends/travelers. We chose the Seaside first based on cost. We've been to E. Caribbean many times, and Hubs is getting over medical problems, so we knew we would primarily stay on the ship. Embakation was a snap because he was using a walker, so they offered him a wheelchair, which we gratefully accepted. We also had an accessible inside cabin, which was great. Lots and lots of room and large equipped bathroom. The ship was absolutely beautiful and never felt crowded, even with 5,000 passengers. What we especially liked were the many places to sit and gaze outside and listen to music or people-watch. We had the Fantastica experience which allowed us to choose our dining time, but for medical reasons we chose early dining. We had a very nice table for 2 but in a line of 5 tables, so you actually had 8 to 10 persons to converse with at times. We found the food to be good and adequate, not great, but certainly good enough for us to be pleased. Yes, portions are a little smaller, but you can order more than one from each course. Dessert is ordered when you order your main meal. The buffet on Deck 8 was also good, but not great. As many have already said, lots of repeats every day, but the salads and soups were quite good, as well as very tasty pizza available almost round the clock, We are black card, so we chose Butcher's Cut for our one included special dinner, and it was wonderful! What a treat! The filet mignon was melt in your mouth, and Hubs had the rack of lamb, which he enjoyed, as well. To sum it up, we were very pleased with MSC and will definitely sail with them again. We wish they would put a ship at Port Canavaral so we wouldn't have to drive to Miami. We live just north of Tampa, so it is a 5 hour drive, but next time we will plan it better and stay the night before in a hotel. Disembarkation was just as smooth. We literally walked off the ship and did not have to stand in an endless line. What a wonderful week!! Read Less

We had a balcony room and was very excited for this cruise. Room and ship was nice. Mattress was uncomfortable to me but I'm pretty particular about whatI sleep on. Buffet food was ok but it was literally the same EVERY night for a week. Dining room food was terrible and always served cool. I only liked one night of the dining room food. My table mates also didn't care much for it. The shows were nice although somewhat repetitive. They decided to wash the balcony room glass banister while in St.Thomas. This actually made my balcony area dirtier than before. Had all kinds of hair and dead bugs on my balcony that wasn't there before. Plus it soaked all of the outside eating area on deck 8 so there wasn't any seats left inside during the lunch rush after returning to the ship after a day on the island. Just horrible planning. There were more issues but I think anyone can see how this cruise went. I did like how they are not in your face to take pics all the time but they are always pushing their specialty dining restaurants and drink packages. The ship is understaffed. Maybe it will be better when they get fully staffed. Hopefully food will get better. For now I'll stick with Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, or Carnival. Oh and twice during our trip their were toilet issues so toilets on our floor wouldn't flush. Read Less

Chose the cruise mainly for price and itinerary. Ship is beautiful inside and out. Embarkation was a breeze, self embarkation was as easy as I have ever experienced. Bar service with the Premium Package was very good. Drink/liquor selection was excellent. Nighttime music around the ship left a lot to be desired, the dance classes in the evening at The Haven seemed to go on forever.....ate twice at the Sushi Bar without reservations in the evening....was very good. Had steak house reservations, dinner there was very good. Ate off the ship in Puerto Rico one evening...did not dine in the main dining room. Room service twice for breakfast was on point and on time. Balcony Cabin was as expected, bathroom was small compared to the Mini Suites on the NCL Away Class Ships..I missed that. Room steward was fine, always kept plenty of ice in the ice bucket, etc... Pool on the rear of the ship was nice, but the smoking area you had to walk through to get to the restroom was pretty thick.... All in all, I would rate it a step below NCL on entertainment, (the Bride and I missed the nightly outdoor parties on NCL), and a step above on drinks/bar service, especially considering the prices of the drink package. I was very pleased with this...cruise came with The Easy package, upgrade to Premium was $27 PP PD...very reasonable, IMHO. Read Less

This was our second voyage on the seaside within the last year. MSC Cruise lines was kind enough to give us discount credits since we were on the divina during hurricane Irma. I didn't care where the ship was going, I live in South Florida and Hawaii so I get my full share of palm trees! The seaside is an absolutely beautiful ship and very very well kept. The staff has come to understanding how to work on that ship and things flow very nicely. The drink packages and Internet packages that are offered by the cruise line are hard to beat. Even the easy drink package which doesn't give you top shelf liquor will do the job and get you all the soda, quality coffees, and sparkling water that you want. The best part of the cruise for my wife and I were at the dance classes and activities. Every morning on sea days there was an aerobics class and several dance classes available all the way into the evening hours. Also a highlight are the production shows. They are not your typical production show song and dance popular songs. They are elaborately costumed events involving singing dancing music and circus. I would say it is similar to a Cirque du Soleil with a different theme every night. And there is the Opera, it is shown in the afternoon during a sea day so if you're one of those that wants to oil yourself up and be shoulder-to-shoulder with a thousand other people on the pool deck you are more than welcome. However if you want something totally different that is extremely emotional and beautiful, go to see the Opera. The only thing that was disappointing throughout the entire cruise was the dining experience. The marketplace buffet is absolutely boring. It reminded me of my days in the Navy seeing hamburgers hot dogs and Pizza with overcooked meats every day over and over. There was always a mystery white fish available and some sort of sauce but it was always hard as a rock and tasting just like one also. The experience in the restaurants was a bit better. The foods were served up timely and presentation was very nice, however there was nothing ever really exciting about it. There was never that food item that said "I want to try that"! All in all it was adequate and it was put together pretty well, but it was not really a memorable experience. Overall for the price point it is very difficult to beat the MSC experience. I would only hope that they would liven up the food venues a little bit more so that it isn't so boring. Read Less

Beautiful ship and easy on/off. But if you are looking for a cruise with good food, good service, good overall experience, then go somewhere else. The food...,especially what was served at the general seating...was worse than what my daughter gets at her high school lunches. The staff...rarely a smile, rarely a care. We ended up eating mostly at the buffet and even this was not pleasant....you would think they would serve something other than pork at the carving station. They have a sports bar but apparently the concept of watching sports at a bar is foreign to those at MSC. Putting a large screen showing espn with NO sound does not make it a sports bar. Oh and do not get sick if you go in this ship. There are no sundriies shops that carry OTC medicines to handle basic needs for coughs. They will however sell you an encounter with a “doctor” for a minimum of $115 to address your needs but first you have to get passed nurse Ratchet. In conclusion don’t waste your money. Read Less

The Good Stuff Shows: The shows got better as the week went along. First two or so seemed a bit dull with singing and not much action. As the week progressed, the acrobats and dancers got more involved and the shows became far more interesting. The Beerprov comedy team was incredible, although if you can't stomach some tasteless humour then it wouldn't be for you Adult activities: Every night in the lounge, they have short but fun adult activities - name that tune, majority rules, etc. Very fun stuff, and we even won a bottle of champagne! The MSC staff that run these activities are the best staffers on the ship The App: The MSC app is excellent. Daily itineraries and an ability to book show tickets, plus maps for the lost. Very very good. Others: Nice large bathroom in the suite, never felt crowded, gym had amazing equipment The Bad Stuff Service: Very slow and often unfriendly. One or two cruise staff were also downright hostile at times. Not enough staff in certain areas, particularly bars. Wait staff very slow at times as well. Food: Dull, uninspired, inconsistent... The buffet for breakfast was the same buffet every morning. The lunch buffet was the same. Very little variety from day to day. Also very limited offerings. The evening dinners were mediocre at best, and don't expect anything like lobster night without an upcharge. The prime rib was as thin as a pencil and overcooked. Worst food I've ever had on a cruise The smell: Oh my goodness, our bathroom smelled like a portable toilet. Several spots on the ship also occasionally smelled like sewage. Other stuff: Ran out of several types on wines on my drink package, although I wondered if they just didn't feel like opening more bottles. Took 48 hours to get a working room safe. Towels sometimes missing from out bathroom. Missing cutlery from the table. The Ugly Stuff Disembarkation: Absolute chaos. Several thousand people in a line that snaked endlessly around the ship. People were picking fights. It was an ugly scene Read Less

We chose the Seaside again because of the beauty of the ship, the lovely staff including approachable, interesting, kind officers. The opera singers and all of the other entertainers are amazingly good. I like opera to a degree. Sometimes it puts me to sleep, but that is just me. I sit close to an aisle.lol. We decided to check out some of the family entertainment. MSC-Seaside really bends over backwards to make families with children feel welcome. I watch. I see. I think my grandchildren ages 1 to 18, would have a wonderful vacation on this ship. There is just so much to do. The food is so good! I/we read some of the negative reviews and we ask ourselves what do these people eat at home? There are so many choices both in the dining room and at the buffets. I am on a very restricted diet. MSC-Seaside is taking such good care of me. Gluten free, vegan(I eat fish) and dairy free. I am being pampered by all the attention. My husband is on a regular diet and enjoys the meals. The cruise critic community was treated to a special time with the officers. Drinks, snacks and a special cake was served. Thanks everyone! PS.. No sponsered excursions this time for us. We chose to stay on the ship and enjoy the food and drinks and the swimming pools. Read Less

This cruise was so wonderfull. The first time I went in the carribeans. Stops were so fabulous. About the ship : I have already cruise on the seaview, and it's exactly the same ship. It was plenty but, because of his design, you don't feel there are too much people. Just sometimes at the buffet or restaurant. Embarkation and disembarkation wasn't a problem, except at Grnad Cayman where we should take a boat to go to he port, and it was a bit longer but not too much. It was a little bit long to be serve at the bar, depend on the server. But this is the same problem on the other boat of MSC. I have the "My choice dining", so we went dining all days at 9h00, after the show (8h30). And it was allways simple to find a table, no waiting. We can ask for the same server all along the cruise. For the breakfast we went 4 times to the restaurant, and it was great. The others time to the self. Finally, I have no little children, so I can't critik the children installation. Read Less
