People spitting on floor whilst sitting in spa, people spitting on carpet in marketplace buffet, people blowing snot from nose and spitting in hand basin that you are expected to wash hands in prior to entering food court, Casino door continually left open and smoke streaming out into main atrium, children allowed to run riot on dance floor after 10pm. Princess usually has dress standards for dining rooms. None applied on this cruise, you could wear singlet top basket ball shorts and slip on sandals, jeans T-shirt’s and you’d be allowed in. We ended up staying away from pool and spa as we couldn’t stomach the snorting and spitting, it made our stomach turn. We spent majority of time in our cabin watching movies. We ate in the dining rooms onboard 5 times and each time the food was luke warm/cold. The staff were doing the best they could with the circumstances they had to deal with. Marketplace Buffet had a huge variety of food choices but trying to get a seat after you had selected your food was a challenge. Some passengers refused to share tables and made it very had for the staff. The amount of food left on peoples plates was terrible to see. We were in cabin E416, our Steward Rommel was amazing, he actually made our cruise. Princess is very lucky to have him he went over and above in every aspect of looking after us. We had evening room service twice as we couldn't face the thought of the catastrophe that was the dining rooms. It was excellent, best meals on the ship. The coffee shop on level 5 was very good, the food was always hot and the staff were exceptional in their service and care. Come back new??? Not us we came back discussed, frustrated, angry, annoyed, disappointed, mortified and concerned, as we’d already booked and paid for cruise with Princess in December. Fingers crossed, with saying that we must say that in the many cruises we have done with Princess we have never had one complaint or issue, service standards have always been well beyond our expectations. . This was our 18th cruise, our 11th with Princess. We were very disappointed with the way Princess's service levels have fallen since our first trip with them in 2001. The crew were at best inattentive, and often just plain nasty. Our cabin had an inoperable balcony door, a broken safe, and what appeared to be semen stains on the sofa in our mini-suite when we got on board. During the week, several times we found dark black hairs in our sink and/or bathtub after the cabin was "cleaned" by our cabin steward, Rolando. My wife's hair is light blond, and mine is gray/white, so it sure wasn't ours! My wife has a severe seafood allergy, which we reported when we booked. When we got on board, we had a note to contact the Maitre-de to go over the allergy. We called, got no answer. In fact in the 8 days of our cruise, the only time we saw him was when he walked thru the dining room with his nose up in the air. We dealt with his assistant, for a few days, who then had HIS subordinate deal with us. This lack of continuity in dealing with what could be a life-threatening allergic reaction did nothing to instill confidence. My recommendation would be to definitely skip this cruise (Shangahi start/finish with 4 port stops in Japan). The Japanese port stops were great, but otherwise, this was a major and expensive disappointment. We intend not to sail with Princess again on ANY itinerary. There are too many better cruise lines out there. Read Less

This cruise experience was horrible. There are too many people and the food quality is bad. We went to a pay French restaurant for $35 per person for my family 15 pp. The food was bad, we booked it because of the Michelin one Star. If you do take this cruise, DO NOT go to any pay restaurants. The pizza bar is surprising good. The Gong Cha -Taiwanese famous bubble tea shop is horribly staffed and no skills......drinks are watery and waste of money. Ice cream bar tastes bad too, only ice, not milky. The international marketplace for buffet..the food was not good either. If it came out a good food, it will be gone in 5 mins. This is a charter cruise, so we are not in the tour group. So our dining is anytime and need to pre book ahead of time Going to the theater to watch the show is like going to a zoo. U need to line up one hour prior because it will be full in 5 mins except the first night, people did not know yet..... The stateroom is spacious with a decent bathroom - mini suite. I would book a small cruise and an America cruise route next time.... I tried Royal Caribbean Alaska route, it was much better. The shore execution time is very short....late embankment around 9am and need to be back by 4pm, not much can do/tour around since lunch will take 2 hours already. Read Less

I liked the look of the itinerary. However, there was no porter service at embarkation. The two Korean ports were a first for this ship, and nearly no one spoke English in the ports. All onboard activities, including entertainers and cruise activities were conducted in Chinese. And there were no onboard acknowledgments for Elite Captains Circle members. The ships signage is predominantly in Chinese, and the ships map we were given was also in Chinese. Of the 4,000 + passengers aboard, less than 200 spoke English. Service was an issue, as not enough of the staff spoke Chinese, so language barriers slowed service throughout the ship. The room are nice, and the stewards were helpful. But make no mistake...this a "charter" cruise. Princess was the operator, but not running the ship. All menus, tours, dining and entertainment are geared to Chinese tour guests. If you're expecting a Princess Cruise, you will be severely disappointed and feel cheated. Read Less

Most disappointed Princess Cruise after previous Sapphire, Royal, Regal and Diamond. We found the ship crowded with long queues, Bellinis and Vine became waiting area with tour guides and passengers, everyone rushing here and there, talking, burping and sneezing loudly. It was really chaotic and people took pictures everywhere including climbing up and down the equipment at the gym, and that there was this occasion where two ladies around their 60s and 80s were taking pictures in front of a backdrop and wouldn't stop posing and laughing until they lose balance and fell down with the backdrop and the Princess photographer was dumbfound. If you skipped the traditional and anytime dining queues, you'll also find long queue at the buffet lines strangely, we had to queue for buffet including waiting in front of sections that we were not picking up any food. Hand sanitizing was not policed after day two. Worse was World Marketplace buffet line was not open for the first (Nagasaki) and second (Yeosu) port day lunch, only the bistro was opened and at Yeosu, they had not enough food and we had long queue for nothing! Three pots of soup finished, empty sandwiches counter, and gone everything with the chef busy scolding and poor older cruisers who had problem walking, waiting, queuing, and surviving till their turn left with no food! Speaking of staffs, most of them were poorly trained, at times you feel like you're in Prison Break or Orange is the New Black, like our cabin steward, International Cafe, Alfredo, Crown Grill and LaMer, we had very bad experiences. But of course, not to mention some very nice staffs like Harmony, Internet service, Photography team, Spa, Gongcha and Noodle Station. The first day we entered our cabin, we already found bread crumbs on the floor. Hot water (shower)was gone on our floor 12 and the customer service had problems understand and paying attention to our call for help due to the same problem with many staffs on this ship, they assumed none can speak English so they were not paying attention to what you're saying! So we waited for 3-4 hours and called 5 times to highlight to them the problem, help only came after so many hours of wait. Same like the buffet staffs, if you say "May I have warm water please?" I got a reply "ah! Water! Hot or cold?". I interpret as "Ah!(you can speak English!" So "Hot or cold?(am not listening!!!)" And I replied "Just now I asked you-may I have warm water please" So after a few rounds of struggle, my friend suggested that I must do what they do, be rude and shout loudly what you want, for example "COKE! ONE!" And I learn not to be polite and speak in full sentences never mind they are from the Phillipines or wherever countries that should be familiar with English. The manager was most rude when we approached to make a reservation, he was speaking to his staffs and he gave us a hand gesture to wait and fiercely told us that he will be attending us in a bit. Dirty public toilets, smelly, clogged most of the time, soap finished. Shows at theatre were exactly like what other cruisers mentioned, they repeated the same shows. Well, no members lounge for disembarkation. And Keelung port was really bad and chaotic as well. So, no more Majestic for us, maybe will stop cruising with Princess for a while. Read Less

We’ve done a few cruises with other liners and they were so much better than the Princess if you are between 70 - 90 yrs old, then this slow paced ship is designed for you it was boring. The same program almost every day. The constant pushing and harassment to get you to buy on board all the very overpriced things suggesting markdowns, discounts, buy buy buy! The staff are friendly enough, it’s not their fault, it’s the sales pitch their forced to do. Raffles to win was one way to get you in. There were many ‘evemts’ Daily, enticed to get you to buy more! This never happened on the other cruises. The food was also boring. No variety. I’ve been on a few cruises and this one has to be the worst when it comes to selection or choices. If you want lactose free milk, you had to ask for it especially. It was never an option next to the breakfasts where it should be. There were no lactose free cheese, yoghurt or ice cream. Yeti when we booked we were given the option to select food requirements and this was suggested that it was already a part of their every day food choices! I received an email stating that lactose free will be available. For gluten free needs, there was one little section with the same food in it daily! I’m not gluten free but would hate to be as 8 know someone with coeliacs disease and she gets very sick if she eats gluten! So having such very little food options would be a dreadfully long cruise with the boring selections! It reawas very disappointing. I’m never a complainer with anything and will always make do with what we have but this really needed to be mentioned! The movies by the stars, was a huge screen at the end of an open deck pool area. So you can imagine how noisy it was! You couldn’t watch a movie at all during the day as you couldn’t hear it, it was just noise in the background over people talking loudly or kids in the pool. The evening movies were better but you had to fight to get a good spot to see it clearly as most of the deck chairs were on the level of the pool and they had this fountain in the middle (which was never used except for special events!) and you had to battle to see through rails, bars, decorative trees and so on. So it was really poorly designed to see around it. The best seats were near the smokers deck and we had to put up with inhaling their second hand smoke or sit somewhere we couldn’t see the screen well! The theatre where we had most of the main entrainment held, was badly designed. If weren’t lined up an hour early, you were either unlucky to get a seat at all, or got one of the crappy seats on the front several rows to either side which you couldn’t see the show anyway! That’s when the seats were not broken! For a new ship, I really felt there was so much poor design of the layout. Other than all of this, I did find that most of the staff were wonderful! Read Less

After cruising for many years with Princess my partner and I were disappointed with the lay out of this ship, their seemed to be not enough staff for the amount of passengers on board, most places we visited on board did not have enough seating, the ship was designed the Chinees market and it shows with the conversions of the public such as the vista lounge once part of the casino and another now bar also was the high rollers as you will see by the amount of surveillance cameras in the rooms, far to much Chinees writing hard to know were you are in the lift with the English/Chinese writing, we had the opportunity to have dinner in the French restaurant the food and service was good, the location of this restaurant was not good in a walk way I sat looking at a till, was told they were booked out so had to eat at 18:30! this was not the case only two couples in when we arrived, the walk way running along side was very busy and noisy, would not recommend this ship. The cruise was very disappointing. The entertainment was directed at the older passengers and nothing really available if under 60. No theme night, no white wine onboard as the ship is heading to Asia so they used what was onboard. Outbreak of respiratory condition onboard no extra precautions brought out until the last afternoon when it was too late. Toilet blocked in cabin x 5 times. Very big ship not easy to navigate around. Too many people and it had lost the special princess touch. The majority of the crew hardly smiled, they appeared to be tired of their jobs. I had not been on a cruise for six years and was so excited about the upcoming cruise unfortunately I don’t feel that I will ever do another one following this experience. A lot of passengers on this cruise were very dissapointed and it was a shame as everyone looks forward to the feeling that princess cruises promote “Coming back new” but unfortunately this cruise fell very short of that feeling. There is a bit to like on the Majestic. Being fairly new it is quite tidy and presents reasonably well on board. There are quite a few good spaces on board, a bit of flair here and there, but overall with 3,500 to 4,000 passengers on board its all a bit of a mess. And from the exterior “the ship” is as ugly as sin. An ugly floating appartment block. The root of the evil is the Princess business model. The market researchers have told them that the average passenger is not too bright ... so Princess presents an infantile and condescending package assuming the passengers to be morons so the staff dont need to be too sharp either ... they all seem to come from the cheaper parts of Asia and Eastern Europe. The activities program throughout is dumb, the lowlight of the day is a hard sell and then one has to suffer the bars and restaurants. Actually a couple of the cabaret shows were quite good! Pretty sad that wait staff are enthusiastic with their recommendations, but are unable to even pronounce the fish that they have been told to dispense (buramooondi). And someliers who operate on bin numbers which they recomend but have no idea what a nero d’avola is. But the poor wait staff are not the problem (they are also victims in the Princess business model) they are the result of the Princess training program which is rubbish. Thankfully, we had a suite on board and could escape most of the crass Princess infantile exploitation dogma. The suite was little better than most, but a poor excuse for the use of good space. Thankfully, we escaped without too much trauma and certainly we will not have occasion to go to sea with Princess ever again. Read Less

We booked 2 years ago and have been used to the Diamond and Golden Princess size ships. We didn't find it too big to walk around but we felt that the public rooms had been enlarged a little but too many people crowded into them causing congestion and a lot of noise. The practice of using the Piazza for activities such as Line Dancing classes instead of the Vista Lounge was a bad move. Most people go to the Piazza to sit down, have a coffee and meet people. When the so-called music started and a female with high pitched voice started yelling instructions into the microphone you couldn't hear yourself think. The music was not good apart from the piano player Marius because once again it was too high pitched and loud. The impressionist was excellent. Where, oh where, were the string quartets and trios??? Because it affected all the music mayabe the amplification was at fault. I daren't wear my hearing aids in the Piazza for fear of ear damage so consequently had trouble hearing people. On sea days you could hardly move because there were too many people around. The activities in the public area were not well planned when everybody was coming out of the lounges at the same time and trying to get through people who were waiting. The sudoku puzzle wasn't changed in the IT room. The Passenger Service staff on the whole didn't seem to know what they were doing and were quite unhelpful when a seat collapsed under me in the Princess Theatre. They wanted me to go to the doctor in 2 hours time when they opened and pay for it myself. We had to fill in 4 reports that essentially said the same thing and no apologies. Cabin staff were mediocre but Concerto dining staff were excellent even if the food was a bit tasteless. Read Less

Take a lot of money. Yes, its expensive in Australia, but the expenses on the ship keep on mounting. A glass of wine $14.00.Cosmopolitan $16.00. They have taken away the 2 for 1 cocktail hour. The cost of the shore excursions is just plain ridiculous. Two ports we were in, we had to pay for a shuttle to town. We used to get a coupon book that at least had a few coupons we could use, gone. The art gallery ( look hard or you will miss it ) is tucked into a tiny corner by a huge photo gallery. The menu in the diningroom is so geared to people other than Canadians and Americans, if you like fish only , you should. be happy. Not once was there pork or turkey, just fish, fish and more fish, missing also is the traditional new York cheesecake and crème brulee. We stood on top deck for 2 hours and did not have one bar staff around. There is a 1.1% surcharge added to your bill that princess collects. Read Less

Timing as the Cruise was over the new year and also location the ship was traveling were the important issues. Traveled on the other cruise ships during the new year eve time frame and it was very nice. This trip seemed to be smaller in activity scale when compared to other cruise trips Limited activities - Started a golf activity that was to continue - dropped without notification, no word, just dropped it. Food left a lot to be desired - Asian food represented very well however if you do not like this type of food the balance was less than acceptable - ended up eating from the kids menu for many of the meals. Became sick during the cruise and went to see the doctor - very little help - seemed as many people on the cruise were also sick with coughing and sore throats. So I have been on many cruises in the past. Princess cruises was my first cruise ever in fact. I had nothing to compare it to at the time so I loved that cruise. My kids were very young so I had no real time for entertainment then. I have cruises on carnival, royal Caribbean and Norwegian and all of those are fun. Princess is the most boring cruise I have ever been on. There was nothing going on ever. I brought teenagers with us and they were bored out of their minds which was really disappointing since I spent so much money on this cruise. For the first time in my life I couldn’t wait until this cruise was over and I have never felt that before. They cater to old people and people who like quiet refined entertainment. Lots of orchestra bands playing everywhere always!!! It was annoying to say the least. On sea days there was no entertainment besides outdoor movies or playing your own cards or board games. Many people reading all over the ship. That says a lot about the kind of cruise ship this is. BORING!!!! The service is great, the staff is friendly for the most part but if you are under 60 and if you like to have fun, this is not the ship for you! Evening entertainment was just as dismal as the day with many classical musical shows and very few upbeat events anywhere to be found. Read Less

Chose this cruise because it had an associated land tour after the cruise. The major issue was neither the cruise or land tour. It was what Princess did during booking. We booked a room almost one year before the cruise on deck 14 (room 505) with a balcony on the starboard side after much research. After everything was paid and approximately 45 days before the cruise they gave our room away without our knowledge or permission. We didn't learn this until we were printing the boarding pass which showed a room on deck 9 starboard aft. We called both Princess and our travel agent requesting our original room back. Princess said this was an upgrade and refused to give it back and our agent said she would have to get permission from the new people. They didn't get our approval why theirs? Anyway after many calls and arguments they finally gave us a room on deck 14 but it was not a location we wanted. It faced the aft of the ship and the location was similar to one we had on another cruise and didn't like. We couldn't cancel for two reasons, the cancellation charges and other plans we had booked before and after this cruise. So we accepted their room offer, but they will never get another cruise out of us. Now for the ship itself. Food was mediocre at best in the buffet and the La Mer restaurant which was the only specialty restaurant we visited. The buffet started shutting down food lines around 6:30 pm each night. They also closed off 1/4 of the buffet twice during the cruise for a Crab Shack specialty night restaurant. Next one port required tenders. There wasn't enough tenders to get the 3500+ people off the ship in a timely manner. Also it took an extra hour beyond the posted return time to get the people back on the ship. A ship this large doesn't need to do ports that require tenders. During the cruise and land tour we discussed these issues with travel agents and people which have done many Princess cruises, most of them were appalled with this cruise. We have done over ten cruises with different cruise lines and this was the second worst ever. Never again! Read Less

I have never cruised before so I really did not know what to expect. But I must say I was bitterly disappointed. The entertainment I feel was really for people in walkers. It was the battle of the walking frames and go go mobiles. Staff were fantastic, cabin was lovely. I probably would not recommend this cruise to anyone under the age of 80. The maintenance of this ship was a joke. Every day on the deck they were painting with toxic varnish which gave me a chest infection as I am sensitive to fumes. They also closed the pool on the first warm day to re paint it. I went up to the deck for a swim to find there was no pool available that day. The next day it was open so I jumped in and got toxic pool paint all over my feet and hands. This paint was then all over the soles of my new shoes. I would not recommend this cruise to young people or to people with allergies. I had to wait for someone to toast my gluten free bread every morning which took at least a half hour and would also have to wait for that staff member to come back to get my toast out of the toaster and hand to me as we could not reach the toaster. One morning I had to go find someone to pass me my toast that had gone cold. I was fed a desert that was made on lactose free milk when I had told them I am strictly no dairy so was sick that night. Wow I could go on forever on how horrible this cruise was. Read Less

We are not new to cruising. We were travelling with two other couples from previous cruises. Stunningly large ship doesn’t always mean a great ship. Cruise was great ship less than good. We experienced a lot of negatives such as. Not enough pools, unsupervised Hollywood Observatory adults only pool and someone took their grandchild in who defacated in the pool meaning the closure of pool for 2 days. Grill restaurant Tbone was well done on the edge and raw in the middle to the point you would get sick if you ate the bloody meat. One staff member was rude both during photos at dinner and at the shop. Another staff member sold me a $600 camera with an American warranty. Thankfully I returned it the next day and got the Australian version. What does it say when a staff member ask you where did you get the blankets for movies under the stars. We bought the soda package online and waited four days before receiving our soda drink bottles and then only because we asked every day. I also bought a coffee as I like my lattes. Alas never got a decent coffee the whole two weeks. Very bitter and I would like to ask the question did they have a barista or just use the staff. Never once did we get into Princess theatre. It’s too small and people were waiting for 1.5 hours beforehand to get in to the show. Big ship and very elegant but nothing personable about it. With the hot weather coming and the lack of good size pools makes for not good swimming. Will continue to cruise with Princess but not Majestic. Oh and we even found a piece of plastic in one of the desserts but they seemed more interested in telling us the money they paid the chocolatier for his recipe. Also other ships have milkshakes or thick shakes in the ice cream shop but majestic didn’t. Crazy when you have kids onboard. Everyone you spoke to said they were not happy. Lots of trips. Nearly every second day you saw someone with a new break mainly arms. Again will cruise princess but not majestic we stopped anytime dining as the menu was nothing to write home about. It’s not good when the burgers hot dogs and even the pizzas were more enticing. Read Less

Having sailed with Princess on other occasions, we found them to be all that we expected. As soon as we heard the brand new Majestic Princess was coming to Australia, we immediately booked to go on the first cruise out of Sydney. In a nutshell the ship is big, new and shiny. The crew are fantastic, food in the Buffet ( they call it the Market Place) was okay, but we have had better on other Princess Cruises. The food in the Dining Room was very good as were the waiting staff.. Here's the crunch, The ship is big damn big, we found the balcony cabins to be smaller that on other Princess Ships. They have squeezed in more cabins (more passengers) but have failed to provide sufficient lifts to move the high number of passengers up and down the additional decks. This ship had the feel of a live sheep export ship. Crowds at the lifts were a joke. It was said that the Majestic Princess was built for the "Chinese Market". As far as we are concerned they should have kept this ship in China. In the long term this ship will not be well received in the Australian market. Read Less

We did a few cruises, and loved the last one on the Diamond Princess from Sydney to Singapore, it was civilised, well organised, with amazing entertainment and great service, several different outdoor areas to relaxed and unwind but also several areas to appreciate music and entertainers in the evening and to dance if we wanted. None of this was the case on the Majestic Princess ! I don't know if it is still in the teething process, but nothing was clear, the plan of the ship doesn't make sense (one big outdoor area with two small pools, 6 small spa pools (one not working as a spa) for 3000 passengers !! One undercover indoor pool area with strong chlorine smell, which was supposed to be a fun hollywood disco at night, but which was empty after 5.00 pm. No deck in the front of the ship. No real promenade deck (just tow decks on level 7 on both side of the Atrium with 10 chairs). And only one dancing area in the very public and opened atrium. A big shopping area (which was described as the biggest department store at sea !!) with 3 shops (one jewellery and leather, one perfume and one very sad clothes shop with a poor range of polo shirts for men and stretch cotton dresses for women) ! A casino (which again was supposed to be one of the biggest at sea) which was cut in one third to create an extra bar (the Crooners). The nightmare started at boarding in Shanghai : 4.5 hours standing in a queue for boarding, part of it in full sun, no seats, no water, no explanation of what was going on !!! We had a mini suite, which although slightly smaller then the Diamond, are a good size. But it was smelly and not clean (clamps of hair on the balcony, blood stains on the curtains..) We understood later that the ship was delayed on her arrival to Shanghai, and that is where most of these problems were coming from, however no one was there to explain and apologise ! After initial disappointment, we decided to make the best out of it, and remain positive. However disorganisation kept on bothering us : The second night we had to wait over half an hour for a table in the Concerto restaurant (and we were anytime dining), and again 3 days later. Most of the nights half of the wine were not available from the wine list (the waiters were very apologetic and had an exhaustive hand written list of the wine which were no more available (our main waiter told us that it would get better after Brisbane which was 2 days before our arrival. And worse of all, you had to queue for almost everything (a free seat around the pool, a free seat on the decks bellow, a free seat in the atrium cafe, a drink at most of the bars, a waiter to pass by...) The service was mostly pleasant, but they certainly did lack numbers. We understood that this ship was created to cater for the Asian market, and we knew it when we booked. We liked the idea of the Karaoke rooms (which were cancelled when we arrived) we like the idea of the juice bar and the dim sim and dumpling bars (which were cancelled). I have the feeling that the marketing team got overwhelmed by the change in the client target (more than 80 % of the clientele was from Australia, New Zealand or North America !) and tried to patch where and however they could. If you add to this that the entertainment was poor : Same three groups over and over from one side of the boat to the other. One really good show in 22 days. And the same entertainer for the whole trip in most of the bar. Day entertainment was equally poor if you compare it to the entertainment onboard the Diamond Princess (and for a ship of this size). And the fontain water show (which was advertised as the main attraction) is a totally non event (and according to me a total lost of space on the main outdoor deck, and could have been an extra pool) There is no doubt that this vessel is meant to be a money maker (we payed $499 to access the only quiet spa area-advertised as the tranquility heaven of the ship). we didn't have the wine we wanted on the wine list, but were offered repeatedly to join the paying wine tasting to try the wine from the menu, to purchase digestifs alcohols with matching glasses... !!! And a lot of fuss and advertising about deals in the shops (a big piece of the daily entertainment program), at the spa... In conclusion, we made the best out of these holidays, but wouldn't know whom recommend it to, as it doesn't seam to be clear on the clientele target : If you like quietness and luxe, you will find it noisy (constant loud music in the outdoor public areas, and no where to escape) If you like loud music fun and dance, there is no dance floors, no disco, and no fun dance entertainment. If you like outdoor water and pool be ready to share it with a lot of other people. But we did meet a few nice people and friends, and were reassured by the kindness of most of the staff people, which is actually the main positive of this trip ! Read Less

Other reviewers have referred to the debacle that was our boarding in Shanghai. A two to four-hour wait in the Asian heat was just the beginning of our worst cruise of more than twenty so far. This ship is shockingly, badly designed. On board there is no sensation of being at sea, due to the enclosed nature of all of the public areas. There are not enough lounge seats for more than 3500 passengers and none with a sea view. Those on board were aged and infirm. They were also cranky and demanding of the very friendly crew. Many times we saw people with walking sticks and even electric carts just fold up and walk as well as the rest of us. This is not the fault of the ship. But - our usual Crooners Bar was horrible. On past Princess cruises we've danced till dawn with fantastic performers but this ship has an overly-lit room divided in half by a wall and one half has no connection with the performer. It was previously a 'high-rollers' gaming space and has kept the stench of cigarettes. We missed having sail-aways from a bar with a view. The busy, windy and noisy Wake View Bar is completely inadequate for pre-dinner drinks. The only food we enjoyed was in two specialty restaurants - Crown Grill and Harmony, though if you don't have six for the cellar room in Crown you'll sit with blinds down because the lifeboats are outside the windows. Whoever designed this awful ship? The closest we got to the ocean, other than from our own deck 12 balcony, was from a small window in Vines bar and you might be in any dark bar anywhere in the world - and it was 11am! La Mer French restaurant should be avoided and was empty for most of the cruise. It sits above the only dance floor and loud band on the ship with nothing to separate it from passing foot traffic. We booked online ahead of the cruise for a celebration dinner but when we saw the location we asked several days ahead for a table as far away from the noise as possible. We were told it was 'first come, first served' starting at 6pm although we had been given only one booking time, 7.30pm. We made the mistake of dining there and the noise was deafening. Food otherwise was ordinary and frequently cold. Breakfast once took more than an hour to be served in the dining room. The wine list reduced every day. We had excellent waiters in Allegra for traditional late dining and the efforts of the crew to keep us going were obvious everywhere. Shops were boring and either ridiculously expensive or bargain-priced T-shirts, with nothing in between. We did not take any ship's excursions, since they were too expensive and we'd previously visited every port. Disembarkation in Sydney was the best yet and well-organised with helpful porters. I will start with the positives - disembarkation at Sydney was fast and efficient. That's the positives taken care of! So now the ship and the cruise! The ships main problem is too many passengers and not enough public areas - so it is ALWAYS busy and finding a seat is not easy. Embarkation took over 3 hours for most people thanks to total disorganization at the port. At meal times with any time dining we were given a buzzer and told to come back when it buzzed - 40 minutes later it buzzed, so any time dining doesnt mean any time you want to dine, it means any time they want to seat you. The dining room was not full, they kept a lot of tables empty! Entertainment. What entertainment? In over 3 weeks there were just THREE stage shows with the singers and dancers and the rest of time they had VERY mediocre performers - for example an Asian Harmonica player had the first nights show in the theater and you have to ask yourself how entertaining could half an hour of a Harmonica player be? I will give you a hint, people were walking out after one tune and by the 4th more had left than remained! He also performed in other areas across the ship for the next week or so and the other artists that featured from then on were about as 'good'! The on board singing group were totally lacking in enthusiasm and ability. There is NO promenade deck! NEVER been on a ship without a deck to sit on and walk around the entire length of the ship - but Majestic doesn't have one. WHO on earth approved THAT design error? The coach supplied for our one Princess shore tour was old and smelled of petrol. We had trouble hearing the guide over the noise of the engine when it idled and the trip ended in a smelly awful market having driven past the beautiful shops of Orchard Road in Singapore. When our Mini suite balcony door was open, there was a hideous howling sound which made it impossible to leave it open at night. The noise was pointed out to the cabin steward on the first morning and yet was not fixed till the 18th day!! Our cabin was rarely cleaned before lunch and our friends cabin had a continuous smell of stale urine from day 1. This on a relatively NEW ship! Wines ran out long before the cruise ended and the one remaining red wine by the glass, a nasty, inferior and over priced drop was desperately offered from that point on. The wines werent even restocked when we made landfall. So many people tried to use the laundry to get tokens for the machines, but more often than not it charged their cruise card and didnt deliver tokens. I waited 40 minutes in the laundry for someone who I was told 4 times was on their way to arrive before giving up! An Elite member, who have their washing done for them as part of their loyalty program, was using the laundry on one occasion when I was there because she said it had taken FIVE days for her wash to come back when they sent it for the service wash - so much for loyalty. Having previously cruised with Princess we looked forward to the usual facilities and service and found neither up to their usual standard. The balcony on Majestics Mini Suite is substantially smaller than their other ships and despite the ship being less than two years old it felt shabby. When advised of the problems we had experienced, Princess offered us a pathetic $250 each towards a future cruise in compensation, which we turned down as it is clear Princess has lowered its standards across the board and none of their ships will be as they once were. So in closing, avoid Majestic Princess at all costs. AVOID Princess or severely lower your expectations because they are heading down the same road as their partner P & O. Read Less

Spent 22 days on the Majestic and wish we had not spent a single night on board. The boarding was hell, the food wasnt very good and the any time dining simply didnt work out. Unless we ate at 5.45 we would have to wait ages for a table even though they werent all full. The entertainment was so bad we only went to 5 shows over the entire three weeks and the Princess cruise dancers and singers only performed 3 times over the entire period. What a joke on a cruise ship. So many things didnt work as they should it is hard to remember them all. Several types of wine ran out and werent replaced even when we docked. The laundry token machines were always empty but still charged our cabin for the tokens we didnt get. Our room was only clean on the surface and was never tidied till lunch time each day - obviously the cabin steward had too many cabins to look after - probably due to a shortage of staff. The balcony door impersonated moaning minnie or a howling Banshee when it was open forcing us to keep it closed and make the extra payment for a balcony over an ocean view a total waste. Despite all that, Princess thought the problems we had had were worth $250 in future cruise deposits for each of us but if we wanted to accept their offer, we would have had to write back to them 16 days before they sent us the offer. I am one preferred customer (platinum) who will NEVER be traveling with Princess again. Now where is that phone number for Celebrity? Read Less

This was the floating Nursing Home! Unless you are a Senior Citizen don`t go on this ship. We are not exactly young ( 55) however the average age of passengers must have been 75 plus.Entertainment was poor although it probably suited the older passengers. Food was very average with same choices in the buffet every day - very little change to the menu. Bar / waiting staff and stateroom attendants were fantastic which was a positive! The theatres weren`t big enough to accommodate the number of people wanting to watch the shows with many having to stand. The ports of call were good. The embarkation process in Shanghai was the worst we have experienced with lack of communication from Princess and terminal staff as to why passengers were waiting out in the searing heat for over 3 hours. • Bitten by beg bugs. • The European staff consider my sea sickness to be a contagious disease and warned me to stay in the cabin for the next three days. • I suspected my nausea was caused by the mango sago pudding I ate in the International Cafe. Two of my friends also have the same symptoms. • No free coffee at Deck 5 International Cafe, they sarcastically asked us to get our coffee from Deck 16. They spoilt our mood to enjoy our tea time. • The public area was always noisy, MC shouting all the time. • All free restaurants need to line up. • The ship rocks all the while. • No one is able to find the gym center. • The walkpath to the restaurants were confusing and unfoundable. • The food from the Buffet Restaurant is exactly the same in Fine Dining restaurant. • By 8pm, they are not selling ice cream anymore and the food from the restaurant was even lesser. • They want the cabin back by 8am by knocking the door which it’s too early. • Hygiene issue: buffet restaurant cleaning staff swiping the floor and cleaning up the dustbin in front of us while we are eating. • Not serious in enforcing hand cleaning before meal, too few stations to wash hands. • The staffs are not professional. From embarcation in Shanghai, where no one from princess could be found. You had to shove and push your way for over 500 metres inside terminal. People in wheelchairs pushing there luggage through the terminal with not even 1 staff member from princess to even tell you you where in the right terminal! No queues, just passengers pushing and shoving. The captain blamed the late arrival of the ship. The real reason, princess crew to lazy to help, and couldn’t be bothered to send anybody to take luggage on outside of terminal , staff to help people to properly que up, or just to direct people to right terminal! Most passengers only found the right terminal because they went to terminal 1 where another ship was embracing passengers. I have to tell you that the 3 terminals are probably 1 kilometre apart!. We took 3 1/2 hours to board, others took up to 5 hours to board. This ship was a nightmare. Don’t be fooled. This ship has no public space to the amount of people she carries. Everywhere you go there are no seats to sit. On sea days you que for everything, from a cup of coffee, which takes more than 1/2 an hour, then you can’t find a seat to sit down..The grand class ship has double the public space than this ship. The food suffers the same problem, they can’t handle cooking for over 5000 thousand every meal. The food in the main dinning rooms and the buffet is very poor quality. Ships have gotten bigger, prices have come down, something has to give? If you cruised 15 years ago, and compare with what you get now. It’s like night to day! The service is exactly the same. How do they find staff for all these ships there building each year. Most of the staff don’t speak English which is a bit of a problem when most of your customers only speak English. The ques at the customers service desk for the first 5 days had to be seen to be believed. They weren’t there to say how good a job they were doing! My balcony door was broken and couldn’t get it to open. It took 3days and several phone calls to staff who barely spoke English, for them to come to fix the door. After reading the reviews on cruise critic about this ship, princess should be ashamed to have this ship in there fleet. To anyone who think this was a good ship, you need to wake up, don’t listen to there crap about how good they are, which they drum into you from the moment you walk on. This cruise is a nightmare! I have Platinum status with Princess Cruise so I am not new to cruising or cruising with Princess. I was in China earlier this year. I noticed Majestic Princess was docking at the port. As a last minute decision, my wife and I booked a 4 night trip from China to Japan on Majestic Princess. I found out the hard way. Princess in Asia market is actually a different company and unfortunately management in Asia market is very poor. Booking - In Asian/Chinese market, you cannot book your travel with Princess or your US agent. Chinese agencies prepaid for a block of rooms and manage the block on the ship. Not a big deal but it is very different from normal Princess ships because the ship/hotel management does not directly interface with you while you are on the ship. You have to interface with your travel agency's representative on the ship. Embarkation - The embarkation process was a mess. Princess cruise does not manage the process. The process is delegated to each travel agencies and port employees. while we were in the gangway. The travel agent demanded for our passport. I asked why they told me it is a Chinese government policy. We did not feel comfortable to give them our US passports while we are in a foreign country. I refused to gave them my passport. The travel agent threatened that I will not be able to board the ship. While since this is not my first time boarding a Princess ship. We basically ignore the travel agent and walked on-board like a pro. Ship crew did not say a word. But keep in your mind, rest of my group went through the trip without their passports. Stateroom - our room has a balcony. The door was locked by hotel staff. I asked them to open it they refused to do so and told me it is too cold outside. Mind me, I was on a number of Alaska cruises. Not once I was denied balcony access by this reason. We end up complete the trip with a balcony room without access to the balcony. Our room looks nice but we did not have basic supplies like toilet paper. I had to repeatedly request it but the steward very slow on refill it. We end up had to go to public restroom and take toilet paper from public facilities. The layout of the Stateroom is nice and has more space than other classes of Princess cruise ships. Bring your own toilet paper. no kidding Staff - My guess is Princess is using this ship as a training ground for its staff. All staff from all departments looks green. They speak very little English and Chinese. Staff at Purser's desk does not speak English at all. Generally, we had difficulties to communicate with hotel and restaurant staff. Dinning - Very different from your normal Princess cruise. You cannot reserve your dinning tables. Everything is first come first serve, which isn't a problem but Chinese culture does not respect waiting in line. Restaurant staff made no effort what so ever to maintain the waiting line. Your average wait is hours to just get into the dinning rooms. I got a feeling this is done by design so that more people use the buffet. There was no formal nights, not special featured menu. Food is so-so. Entertainment - By this point, my expectation was very low but it still manage to surprise me. Staff made no effort to maintain the order. In theaters, one person would occupy multiple seats throughout the performance. People would walk on seats just to beat you to the empty seats. The only way you can get a seat without getting into a fight is to be in the theater hours before the show. Public Area - It is a Royal class. But this ship is design for Asia market only, which really means, small atrium, fewer public area. all the space is used for state rooms. It is not the same as Royal Princess. I felt like a sardine in a can when I was at public area. I never experienced that even on smaller (grand class) Princess ships Excursions - None what so ever. Princess does not provide excursion services on this trip at all. It is delegated to the travel agencies. In my case, we were hauled to a shopping center and a city park in Japan. You don't even have an option if you want to pay for it. At this point, I was royally fed up. I just left the tour agent/guide and went on explore on my own. At which point, she threatened me that I won't be able to get back onto the ship. But luckly, with my US passport and basic Japanese language skills and google translate, we had no issues while we were on our own in Japan. Crew had no issue to let us back onto ship. Just make sure you reserve more time for getting back onboard. Waiting in line is just not a part of Chinese culture and you will be surprised by the things people are trying to smuggle back on board. Special Surprise - After I am back to United States, the cruise trip did not appear on my travel history. I promptly contacted captain's circle. At first, they had no record of this sailing. I was instructed to send some pictures as proof that I was onboard. I did so. To my surprise, according to Princess's manifest they HAVE NO RECORD OF WE WERE EVER ON-BOARD. My guess is and it is only a guess, the ship's manifest was just fudged by each of the travel agencies. Princess and Majestic never had a true passenger manifest. That's right folks, if you gone missing during this sailing. You are never on the ship. No liability for Princess if you die or gone missing during this trip. Overall - Do not assume Princess Cruise is what you think of in Asia market. It is a different company and different experience. Majestic Princess is dedicated to the Asia market. I would avoid this ship. Read Less
