My wife are from Melbourne, Australia and discovered this cruise on the internet. We have just completed a wonderful 7 night cruise of the Douro River Valley from Porto to Salamanca and back on Croisi Europe’s 132 passenger vessel the ‘Gil Eanes’. Whilst Croisi Europe is a French cruise line there were passengers from France, England, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Denmark, Germany, Austria and Brazil. From our friendly Welcome Aboard till disembarkation the crew attention and service was outstanding. The Gil Eanes is a modern ship (built 2015) with compact but comfortable rooms and good bathroom. Rooms on the two upper decks have large sliding windows. A spacious lounge, dining room and sun deck with pool all provide for comfortable relaxation. Wines, beer, mixer drinks and the daily cocktails are free throughout the day. The food was a consistently high standard befitting a top restaurant with every evening menu themed to the local area and entertainment. The cruise passes through several impressive locks raising the ship up to 36 metres each time. Good value excursions are offered with excellent English speaking guides each day enabling us to explore many historic, scenic and cultural highlights. The Douro wines are wonderful and the scenery is stunning! Overall Croisi Europe offer a great value, high standard cruise. Read Less

I just returned from one of the best experiences one can have, spending 7 days cruising on the Douro river on the Gil Eanes. My experience about the ship was nothing short of spectacular. I cruised with 19 people who are absolutely raving about the food that was served, and the flowing of the drink, which we all took part in, as well as the ambiance on the ship. The ship itself was very beautiful and the excursions were well done and educational as well! When boarding the ship, we were greeted with smiles and a welcome that made us feel right at home. We had a few people in our group who had "lost" luggage but the crew helped us call the airline and assured us that they would be available to accept the luggage when it was delivered to the ship. Before a day went by, all the luggage was delivered and every room was happy. We got on the ship as passengers and came off as family. They could not have been more accommodating. We were on board the ship for Independence Day, July 4th. Matthew, the cruise director, spoke to the guests aboard the ship, asking them to help the US passengers celebrate Independence Day and we all sang God Bless America. I felt that was exceptionally warm on behalf of the cruise director. We met people from Germany, Great Britain, and Spain. Everyone was open and friendly. It was just one of the best experiences we could have had. This CroisiEurope product is superior. Read Less

Slightly nervous because the ship is French and the vast majority of passengers are French. The Douro river is wonderful. The ship spent 3 night in Porto which was too long and passengers wanted to cruise...the joke was it was a cruise that did not cruise, cruise. We were put on an English speaking table of 8 people which saved the day. Croisieurope are trying to break into the English speaking clients around the world and they tried hard to keep us informed. The ship is brand new and very light and airy with bright colors. Cabin on the top deck was also bright with it's floor to ceiling windows. The beds faced outwards which was a nice touch( laying in bed with moving scenery). The cabins are small. One sitting at all meals on an assigned table. Food was adequate and not French cuisine as described and how you might expect. Some poor meals and generally lunch was better with 4 courses and 3 courses at diner...strange. "all inclusive"drinks apart from some wines, Champagne and fresh Orange juice...weird. Entertainment below average. Excursions ( extra price) were good and well organised. What was wrong:- tiny sink in bathroom, which was next to the toilet roll holder...result wet toilet paper. (Designed by an idiot). No tissues in room. Telephone did not work( reported but ignored). No orange juice at breakfast ( unless you paid). Occasional "egg station" at breakfast..why not every day? 2 bad dinners where the food was almost inedible, perhaps the chef was having a day off? All in all we had a good time and would recommend but ignore their own 5* rating it is no better than 4*. Read Less
