This was our first Viking cruise. The experience was as wonderful as our river cruise. Service, food and itinerary outstanding. Guides were exceptional and we felt like we had real insider views from the locals of each country. The cruise offered a wide range of excursions and we enjoyed traveling by foot, bus, boats and cable cars. The food was the best we ever had on a cruise. Dining was open and it was easy to get a table whatever time we choose to dine. No long lines or hassle with reservations. The service and staff was outstanding. Rooms always clean, room service 24x7 in addition to all the diverse places to eat. Seafood buffet nightly was amazing and food in the dining room diverse and tasty. We were wowed by the entertainment, the house band and singing crew were wonderful. Everyone was up close and personal, it was a wonderful experience. Read Less

This cruise was to celebrate a special anniversary, our 50th and we wanted a very special cruise to a place we had never been. The 7 Night Iconic Western Mediterranean cruise did not disappoint. We felt pampered in every way. The ship is beautiful. The food was delicious and all of the Star's employees were always eager to please the passengers in every way. The entertainment on board was wonderful. The bathroom in the stateroom exceeded my expectation. It put a smile on my face every time I want in it and the heated floor was such a treat. All of the toiletries were high quality. I didn't have to use any that I brought, which I always do just to make sure. An especially nice perk is that every deck has three washer and dryers for guests to use free of charge, including detergent and an iron and ironing board. I was able to come on board with clean cloths and leave with clean cloths. I would highly recommend a Viking cruise. You will not be disappointed. Read Less

We wanted to explore Rome, Barcelona, and points in between; this cruise afforded us the opportunity to travel safely and with few worries. The Viking Star was the cleanest ship imaginable, and our cabin was immaculate. Staff members Made and Maha kept it that way the entire cruise, and accommodated our few special requests. We enjoyed all restaurants and cuisine we tried -- World Cafe, Manfredi's, and the Chef's Table. Dining al fresco was a special treat for the four of us. We enjoyed lectures available on board, and also the evening entertainment in the Star Lounge. An unexpected acknowledgment and recognition of the Viking staff on our last night onboard by the cruise director was a very poignant moment. (Good job!) The spa was a favorite activity, as was the infinity pool. Shore excursions were exceptional, if not a little tiring. We were very impressed with very smooth embarkation and disembarkation experiences, thanks to Viking's top-notch staff. And we look forward to our next Viking cruise! Read Less

Everything went smoothly. Having the Viking personnel arrange our air flights, connections, and stays before and after the cruise made the experience all the better. The crew, stateroom, food and entertainment were all excellent. All of the excursions were well planned and enriching. We had the best possible tour guides and the process and organization of the excursions was terrific. The food at each of the restaurants was excellent and the staff made us feel welcomed no matter where we went to eat. The cabin staff were friendly and made our stay almost like being at home. We have nothing but the best reviews of our trip and would gladly travel with Viking again soon. Thank you Read Less

We chose Viking because of the small ship. All of our other cruises have been on large cruise ships and we are tired of those. We lived in Europe for two years so we weren’t interested in any of the River Cruises you offered as we have already toured those areas. We had not been to Italy so that was why we chose this cruise. We were so pleased with all of the staff on this cruise. From the cabin staff to the bar staff, they were all wonderful. We ate most meals at the World Cafe because we did not realize you had to make reservations so far in advance for the speciality restaurants. I would have liked to have had a more varied restaurant choice. The World Cafe was good but I do not liking eating at buffets, so it was not a good dining experience for me. I am also a vegetarian and there were not a lot of vegetarian dishes at the buffet. We would love to do a Viking Cruise to Scotland. Do you have any of those planned in the future? Read Less

We had gone on a Viking River Cruise, and were so impressed with the quality that we decided to try an Ocean Cruise. We added a 2 day stay in Barcelona before the cruise and a 3 day stay in Tuscany after the cruise. Everything was arranged by Viking for this. Upon arriving in Barcelona, we were greeted by Viking reps at the luggage pick up and they graciously guided us through customs and to our transportation to our hotel At the Hotel we were again greeted by a Viking representative to lead us to checking in to the hotel, and since we were early for our room, he led us to an area where other reps talked to us about possible excursions were could take while in Barcelona. Absolutely no pressure was put on us to take any excursions at all. The rep answered all of our questions and guided us to an excursion that would show us Gaudi sites in town. Our room was ready when we finished. The recommended tour was great, as was the night of flamenco dancing they recommended. We were given clear instructions about where to leave our luggage for the trip to the ship, and that all went seamlessly. At the ship we were again greeted graciously, and given champagne while we waited for our room where we found all our luggage already delivered. We were almost immediately greeted by our steward who answered all our questions and made sure we had everything we needed. The next 13 days were glorious. the excursions were well planned and left plenty of free time for us to explore on our own. back at the ship, the service was amazing. The staff could not do enough for you, and the food....I didn't miss a meal which was the only problem with the trip. Many of the staff knew us by name after seeing them only a few times and made us fee as if we were the only couple they needed to take care of. We visited 4 of the restaurants on board and the food was excellent in each. The 3 days in Tuscany afterward I would recommend to everyone. Bothe the hotel and oyr guide were amazing. Read Less

We wanted to try Viking ocean cruise ships since we have made several river cruises. It was a beautiful ship with the customary superb Viking care, service and food. And we were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary by visiting Italy for the first time, taking the Italian Sojourn, Venice to Rome cruise. We took the Tuscany extension which included staying in a 600 year old villa set in the beautiful Tuscany countryside. One of the highlights of that visit was an enchanting dinner at an even older villa and winery. Viking excels in remarkably designed cabins that maximize space and efficiency. We received the wonderful care by the crew on our deck as well as in the dining room as we have in the past river cruises we've taken. One of the bonuses of the ocean cruise was the remarkable lecturer who was uniquely qualified to communicate enriching information and insights into both Italy and Croatia as well each port of call. He was delightful and helpful in his presentations and happily answered questions one on one. Another bonus was the tremendous bargain we received by scheduling our next cruise while onboard during the cruise. We chose a river cruise from Lyon to Avignon in southern France and the saved a great deal by dong that. All in all, we encourage anyone to try Viking ocean cruises.. Read Less

This was our first Viking cruise, and overall we were thrilled with our experience. Looking for a cruise with more stops, and no sea days in the mediterranean, this was a great option. Service was king, and clearly on the minds of every staff member we encountered. From checkin to waitstaff... we were treated very well. The only major complaint was not being able to wear shorts in the dining room. This was pretty ridiculous. The rules don't say explicitly that we couldn't wear shorts. I wear pressed shorts and most days had a nice linen button up shirt on, with either sneakers or birkenstocks. Given that it was HOT in most ports and we were tired at the end of the day... being met with resistance at our wardrobe was not welcome. I'm told that we could have insisted in the dining room... but I would rather it just be clear... shorts should be acceptable. I would call the way I dressed more "Resort Casual" or "Country Club Casual" yet was denied access to the main dining room. Thankfully the buffet was excellent. The staff was attentive, quickly coming to tables for drinks and to clear plates. The food selections were also very good, even having a few fun nights at the pool where they had fish and chips and surf and turf. The coffee bar in the main lobby area was also excellent. It was also nice to have basic drinks included. We're not drinkers, but not charging extra for specialty coffees was a huge plus. We also loved that there was plenty of spacious room in the common areas around the main staircase, with beautiful blankets. It was cozy and warm, and felt more like a really classy hotel... instead of the Vegas glitz that many cruise ships have adopted. Even with my complaint about shorts, and the fact that the TV in our stateroom didn't have a sleep timer and we could hear the neighboring stateroom tv though the wall... it was a wonderful experience. Heard about it 2 years ago when we did the Homeland Cruise on the Sea. Always wanted to visit Greece, go back to Italy and visit Barcelona. The staff and crew were fabulous! Alberto, our room steward (now on the Sky) and Ivana our room attendant were fabulous and anticipated our needs and wants. They always greeted us with smiles. They are true Viking Ambassadors! William, the restaurant manager, always helped us with the perfect tables and reservations, and Elinora, the wine steward, shared both her great knowledge of wines and her friendship. Nickoli and Alexander would greet us with smiles, handshakes and our favorite drinks. The excursions were great and very well planned. Scott, the excursion manager always had time to listen if we had any questions or concerns. The Viking Ocean Cruises have exceeded our expectations on both cruises. The finishing touch were the Viking representatives who were at the airport for our departure. They collected our luggage and had it taken to our ticket counter, and then led our group from to bus to the ticket counter! Seamless transportation from arrival on 04 Aug (we did a pre-cruise excursion in Athens) to our departure from Barcelona. Read Less

We have done Viking River Cruises and they have been very nice. Thought we would like to try the ocean and weren't disappointed. The itinerary was also a draw as we hadn't been to these places. Hard to say what I liked best so I will just leave it that the 'package' was marvelous. Food, service, décor, excursions were all outstanding. We didn't eat in one of the reservation only dining areas but the others were so good! I quickly found that three desserts with each meal was perfectly okay. I also did the afternoon tea and it was great. A room service breakfast started the day right. Our cabin steward was so nice and by the morning after we embarked knew our names. I enjoyed sitting in the public rooms listening to music and having a drink in the afternoon. Things were tasteful and not overdone and quiet. No bands blaring at the pool! We had very knowledgeable guides for all excursions and learned a lot. It was hot but that is normal for the area in August. Too bad there isn't a rating higher than 5. I can't wait to go on another Viking cruise. Read Less

The ship, the crew, the food, the overall experience was just amazing! There are not enough words to describe how wonderful our trip was. We were first time cruisers and we cannot wait to do another. In fact, we signed up for a river cruise while on board. The crew were very attentive and catered to our every wish. The room was very comfortable and quiet too. The dining was simply terrific! There was a variety of food to choose from every day and all day if you desired. The 24 hour room service on board was a wonderful treat for us when I did not want to get up and get ready to go to breakfast. NOTE: I do wish there were gluten free desserts readily available, but I did manage just fine. The entertainment was okay. I expected better, but we did not go on this cruise just to be entertained. The Cruise Director Jenna was the best singer of all of the singers on board. The musicians however were top notch. We loved that the excursions were included, but wished some of them were more than just a walking tour of the port town. We would have liked more INCLUDED historical excursions in Venice, Messina & Sicily. We did pay extra for some excursions in order to see the historical sites. Would we go again? You bet! Not this exact cruise, of course, but another ocean cruise in the future is highly possible. Read Less

First time cruising with Viking. Won’t be the last. Really enjoyed shore excursions and cruise ship experiences (Spa, Snow grotto, pools and entertainment)! Food was delicious; Manfredi’s was favorite because of its popularity, reservations are required and availability is limited. We visited four countries in seven days. By far, Italy and France were our favorite countries and shore excursions. We enjoyed a Day in Tuscany and Pisa. We enjoyed a wine-lunch with friends on the Canal du Midi and where we had the most free-time, Avignon. We had visited Barcelona earlier this year and enjoyed revisiting our favorite spots in the city for example, the Gothic District, Las Rambla, La Boqueria and something new — Flamenco dance and dinner show. Embarkation and disembark processes were organized, safe, secure and seamless. Every crew member with whom we interfaced was knowledgable, helpful and professional. Many were multi-lingual. Overall, we had a wonderful first taste of Europe and will definitely cruise with Viking again. Read Less

We had done a River Cruise with Viking on the Rhine River Basel to Amsterdam. Vikings level of service was outstanding. Last Year we did our first Ocean with Viking on the Sun British Isles Explorer London to Norway 16 Days. It again was outstanding! Fantastic Itinerary. For this Summer we chose Viking Star on the 12 Night Mediterranean Odyssey. I can't say enough great things about the ship and crew as a whole. Everyone works extremely hard and pleases each and every guest. From our cabin (Deluxe Veranda) 3066, was always immaculately kept, House Keeping, Room Service, Maintenance when I locked our safe incorrectly. Wine Service all top Notch! The shore excursions were fantastic, especially the ones we chose. Unfortunately when we signed up for excursions, 2 were Sold Out, The Helicopter tour over Monaco and the French Riviera and the Gondola tour in Venice. However when we were on board Alonya working at the front desk who had sailed with us on Sun British Isles Trip was unbelievably helpful and got us waitlisted and cleared for both. Amazing Service and Amazing tours. Another familiar face was Hector the Wine Sommelier! He is fabulous and was so accommodating with our wine selections along with Ramon the wine steward. They both made a point to come to our table at dinner every night with recommendations. The Dining options are wonderful, the food amazing and the service again Top Notch, We never waited for anything whether a cocktail poolside, water service on the Aquavit Terrace or in any restaurant. Embarkation and Disembarkation super smooth. Our luggage did not make our connection as we were delayed out of Boston but the crew got it to our cabin before we even arrived. The only slight thing I would mention is that a few of our Ports of Call were not that pretty for the cruise Terminal. Would prefer to Moore off the coast and tender in but I understand all of the logistics in moving all the guests, buses etc. Monaco was Amazing. We just booked New Zealand, Australia and the Great Barrier Reef with Viking for 2020! :) Will never choose any other company than Viking. They do everything extremely Right :) Read Less

This was a 25th wedding anniversary cruise. The boat was amazing. Room was a wonderful size. We had a deluxe veranda. The food was 5 star quality and was absolutely delicious. No need to eat off the boat. The meals served were from the region we were visiting - and did I mention they were outstanding! The excursions were good. I would choose differently on some of them now that I have been the the Iconic Mediterranean cruise. We added a pre-excursion in Rome and so glad we did. The concierge at our beautiful hotel arranged a night bus tour and fabulous meal at a restaurant in Rome. One of our highlights. The staff on the boat were extremely kind and funny. Always smiling and willing to help in any way. The only port we stayed on the boat was Montpelier. I wish we could have skipped that stop and had two days in Barcelona. Our flight on the way home was the only bad experience but not the fault of Viking. Took us 28 hours to get from Barcelona to Pittsburgh. Hope we can travel with Viking again. Loved every minute. We chose this cruise to try out Viking Ocean cruises. It was a very nice experience! Low key luxury & excellent service! We chose a penthouse veranda for the extra space. It was super nice! This was a port-intensive cruise - Livorno, Monte Carlo, Marseille & Barcelona - so no sea days. But we still managed to use the pool, gym & restaurants. All good except Chef’s Table - we didn’t care for Lotus Menu. This would not be a cruise for those desiring nonstop action. Music & dancing were available but no Big Shows, acres of shops, or rock climbing walls... Quiet, classy & no kids under 18 allowed. The ports were amazing - it was hot weather, but that’s summer...we loved Florence & Marseille especially. We only did 2 Viking excursions - in Marseille (Chateau Flauguerges wine tasting) & a panoramic tour of Barcelona. The former was extra & the latter included. Others we booked on our own. We wanted an anniversary cruise, and had hoped to book one of the cruises Athens to Venice. The problem seemed to be that every thing was already booked. I had spoken with Roland, and then emailed him some choices for 2019. It seemed doubtful. Then a call from Roland that two rooms (4035 and 5051) became available, departing Athens on June 27, putting us in Dubrovnik on our July 1st Anniversary! Not only that but the rooms were on the starboard side, which was exactly what we wanted sailing north. We: my husband, our son, our daughter-in-law and myself arrived in Athens a day early and thoroughly enjoyed it. In the past, we usually traveled by train, but thought it would be too taxing for my husband. After a great deal of research, we found Viking. From the moment we boarded the ship, we were blown away. Everything was more than perfect! My husband had a great deal of special dietary needs; he had an amazing person who looked after him every day, giving him menus a day ahead, checking various items, answering questions, etc. Wonderful! The two individuals (4035 & 5051) who looked after our rooms were amazing, friendly and hard working. We enjoyed talking with them each day as well! The restaurant staff were very helpful and friendly; we hugged them goodbye. Our son, a Meteorologist, enjoyed conversations with the cruise director too! We enjoyed everything! Our son and daughter-in-law loved it as much as we did! The ship was beautiful and never seemed crowded. We had an early morning breakfast on deck going into Kotor. We were on deck with special drinks given out as we arrived in Venice; the views were unbelievable! There were shuttle buses to take us in and out of the cities; some ports were close enough to simply walk. I had read the Durrells of Corfu and thoroughly enjoyed my time in Corfu. We ate in Manfredi’s for our anniversary, complete with a very special anniversary cake. Our cruise: unforgettable! Read Less

Always wanted to do a Med cruise and when we saw the itinerary it hit all the spots on our bucket list. What was even better our Nephew and his wife live in Barcelona so we added a couple of nights on the front end to visit and explore the city. We also added nights on the end in Venice. Our cabin (PV1-PENTHOUSE VERANDA) was great and had some nice perks which we really took advantage of. Early shore excursion booking (we got every one we wanted) and early reservations to the specialty restaurants. Also an earlier boarding time which was great. Breakfast was in the main dining room and a buffet, but lots of cook to order choices. There was a specialty buffet every evening and they looked great, however we preferred the restaurants, not only was the food incredible but since we had purchased the Silver Spirts package so was the wine :-) Service was great and you really felt special wherever you were. We had shore excursions in every port and normally the more adventurist ones. The local guides were easy to understand and added great value. We enjoyed the sea day as a time to relax for the rest of the trip. They had a great house band and always ended the day in the cocktail lounge where the bartender always had my favorite drink ready as soon as he saw us walk in. The inhouse entertainment was top notch, great voices and well planned shows. Besides scheduled shows they would also show up in some of the lounges for singing and dancing. This was a trip that cleared a lot off our bucket list. Read Less

We’d traveled with Viking twice before on their river cruises and love the Viking experience. I took my wife on her first cruise experience to the western Caribbean on one of those large ships and it was a disaster. So I convinced my bride we should try a Viking Ocean Cruise and neither one of us had been to Italy so the Odyssey made sense We started our trip with the Tuscany pre-sailing stay and were so glad we did. They put us up in a beautiful Tuscan Villa just outside of Florence and it couldn’t have been more charming. The accommodations were excellent, the service outstanding and the views were what you’ve seen in movies and pictures. We were taken on full day tours in high end motor coaches with a guide who put all other guides to shame. The tours were nice but as usual, the local guides tried to pump too much information into your ear so off we went to explore on our own once the meeting place and times were set. We enjoy the local shops & such but live just finding a small outdoor cafe and having a coffee or a glass of wine with some small nibbles. Viking bussed us to Venice where we picked up the Viking Star. What a beautiful ship. For a small ship it was quite large. But by comparison, we were docked next to the Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Sea and we were tiny by comparison. We had cabin 8007 which we found to be a perfect location. The ship was easy to learn and easy to get around. The first thing you notice is how warm and friendly the crew is. From the stateroom stewards to the bar tenders, waiters, kitchen staff, etc. We spoke to many of the staff we came in contact with and they were genuinely happy to be there despite the hard work and long hours. To a person they all thought Viking was the best of all the cruise lines to work for. There were bars & restaurants all around the ship so getting a drink or a little something to eat was never an issue. There is the World Cafe buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, The Restaurant for breakfast & dinner and two other specialty restaurants that required reservations. Viking has a casual attitude so resort casual is fine for all the restaurants and pretty much anything goes in the buffet. So gentleman, leave your suits and sports coats at home. The real treasure is up in the Explorers Lounge which has a fabulous bar and lounge overlooking the bow of the ship as well as a little cafe that serves the best breakfast waffle you’ve ever eaten and then later in the day some of the best desserts. Cannot recommend it more. There is a wonder spa, workout facility, and an area near the spa with a hot pool, sauna, steam room and a snow grotto. Kinda crazy fun. The included tours and fine for getting around the various ports of call but there are many optional tours available as well at an additional expense. Check those out on line. The included tour in Rome was our least favorite so if there’s something really specific you want to see or do there, book that. Overall, I’m not sure you could have a better cruising experience than with Viking. Nothing in life is perfect but Viking seems to get as close as humanly possible. Now, I’ll caveat that with if you’re a whiny type who just likes to complain about the littlest thing, we’ll, nothing’s going to make you happy so just stay home so the rest of the passengers can enjoy themselves. We booked our Viking Mediterranean Odyssey cruise and pre-stay in Venice We traveled with another couple, two close friends, who also booked with the same agency, Cruise Planners. In just about every aspect, this trip exceeded our expectations. Our pre-stay in Venice was perfect. What a wonderful city for exploring the maze of narrow streets, canals, shops, and restaurants. Viking put us up in the Hilton Molino Stucky hotel in Venice. The hotel was beautiful with very clean and spacious rooms, a great location away from the crowds, and just a short complimentary water taxi ride to St Marks Square. With our pre-stay and overnight in Venice on the ship, we had a total of three days in Venice - a great beginning to a great cruise. Our ship, the Viking Star, immediately impressed us. This ship was Viking’s first ocean ship and therefore its oldest, but you wouldn't have known that. With its modern, bright Scandinavian decor, it was one of the cleanest ships we have ever seen. Viking included complimentary wine and beer at lunch and dinner, transfers, and two on-board specialty restaurants. Wi-Fi was free and unlimited, and it worked well in cabins and public areas – better than any of the other ships we have sailed. At sea, we were even able to use the Wi-Fi for face time and Wi-Fi phone calls, which is impossible on most cruise ships. One of the most enjoyable complementary inclusions was the Nordic spa, which had a salt water thalassotherapy pool, a steam room, a hot tub, a sauna, heated ceramic lounge chairs and a cold plunge pool, as well as a unique "snow grotto". We also enjoyed the unique infinity pool with a great view from atop the stern of the ship as we cruised along. The ship layout was easy to learn, and navigate as it had a nice, common sense flow to its design. Before our trip we attended a Viking presentation and were told that a ship of this size would normally accommodate about 1200 passengers, yet Viking reduces that to 930 passengers, giving the ship a less crowded feel. This isn't something I put a lot of faith in. After all, when is the last time you cruised and the ship didn’t feel crowded, especially around the buffet? However, Viking was right. The ship really didn’t feel crowded at all. It was easy to relax and enjoy the ship amenities, and we never had a problem getting a lounge chair like many other ships. We had stops in Split, Dubrovnik, Corfu, Naples, Rome, Florence, Monte Carlo, Marseille, and Barcelona with a day at sea. At each port, Viking supplied a free included tour. Most of these were walking tours with some better than others, but we were able to break away from the tour at any time and always had ample time to explore on our own. In addition, there were opportunities to book additional tours at cost. One of the best was an all-day small group tour with a separate tour provider, the Shore Excursion Group, that we did of the Amalfi, Positano, and Sorrento coast with two other couples – a remarkable day that we will always remember. We felt that the food on the ship was OK – not bad but not outstanding either. The important thing to note was that there are several venues for eating, so finding something to our liking was never a problem. As an example for dinner, we had choices of the two specialty restaurants (with reservations), the main dining restaurant, the world café (buffet) and a themed buffet provided at the pool-side grill. The onboard entertainment was very good, with a solo guitarist, solo pianist, string duo, house band and a house vocalist quartet. There were two occasions when local entertainment was brought onboard and we felt that Viking has the opportunity to improve their shipboard entertainment by bringing more good off-Vegas talent onboard for short periods in a manner similar to other cruiselines like Celebrity. The service from the crew was outstanding and the staff seemed genuinely cheerier than what we have seen on other cruise lines. One crew member, who had worked the cruise industry for many years, on several of the major cruise lines told us that Viking was the best company to work for. He told us they really took care of its employees and in his opinion life with Viking was much nicer than any of his other gigs. This positive attitude showed from all of the staff that we encountered throughout the ship. We had a wonderful cruise experience from Viking and Cruise Planners and look forward to more in the future. Read Less

We fell in love once we were on board. Over the top service and warm compassionate crew and servers. We made some new friends and managed to share some laughs and some tears as well. Since we got the free upgrade to The Owner's Suite (TOS) from our explorers suite, Viking did everything in their power to make magic happen on all levels for our 30th anniversary. Attention to detail at every corner and smiling faces at every occasion. That is until we had to leave our cabin and our steward Olivera behind. She made a lasting impression on us and touched our heart. Olivera would make a great Miss America coach one day as she has the ability to take any humble lady and make her realize why she is special and why she deserves to enjoy every aspect of the cruise including spa and take advantage of all the benefits that come with TOS. A special thanks to Olivera, Wendy, Daniel and Hector for making the private party happen with such passionate care. Special thanks to Manuel for his expert planning at the last minute when one of our excursions was canceled (we were the only ones who booked it). Also special thanks to John at the gelato bar and Sara who served up smiles at the same time she served your Sangria and everything else. We pray one day to meet up with this crew and servers again. As far as the excursions go, we felt that we got more out of the custom tours we planned than the major bus excursions. The Vatican museum was pure madness and we should have booked a private excursion there. What folks should take away is that the included tours are going to be super popular ones and the majority of the other tours will still be popular. Our favorite dining experiences were with Manfredi's and The Chef's Table. The calamari at Manfredi's is light and crispy, and they treat their seafood and meat dishes with respect. Daniel and Hector do a great job with their themed fixed menu at the Chef's Table. On the ship, I found the pools to be limiting but at least with Viking they are not crowded. The heated pool area on deck 1 features a slippery set of stairs that I slipped on and tore a gash in my right ankle which is now all black and blue. My issue was that I presumed if it was a pool step it would be like my personal pool and be a little rough on the step surface. I should have planned better, but Viking could make some additional safety precautions in my opinion. Overall, we would definitely book again, and have already planned our next outing to Australia and New Zealand over Thanksgiving 2020. Read Less

We had cruised with Viking River Cruises and wanted to have an equally memorable experience while visiting Greece, Montenegro, Croatia, and Slovenia. We are so glad we chose Viking for this cruise. Our room aboard the Viking Store was very comfortable and we had excellent WiFi coverage while onboard the ship. The various dining rooms and lounges were beautiful and the staff was very attentive to our wants and needs. We were very pleased with our guides in the various ports we visited and we loved the excursions that we had selected prior to the trip. We would advise others to take the tour of the excavation site of Akrotiri on the island of Santorini; it is amazing how far advanced that civilization from 4,000 years ago was! We also thoroughly enjoyed the music made by the waves hitting the sea wall at Zadar, as well as the tour which took us to Lake Bled where we viewed the Dolomite Mountains and the turquoise waters caused by the limestone. The onboard entertainment was excellent; we looked forward to the shows provided by talented, young musicians. We did not sign up for this cruise with family members or friends, but people on the excursions were very friendly and we learned a lot from the people we met. We liked the cruise so much that we have signed up for two more Viking Ocean cruises--one in the British Isles and another in the Western Mediterranean. Read Less

In 2016 my husband & I were on Mediterranean Odyssey-Barcelona to Venice. He had a compromised immune system from cancer. He picked up an infection & we had to leave cruise in Civitavecchia, Italy. He has since passed away. I wanted to visit the countries we missed in the Adriatic so my friend & I picked this cruise - same ship my husband & I were on. We loved every port we visited esp. Dubrovnik & Kotor, Montenegro. The food was excellent & surroundings were fantastic. I wish we had one day at sea to enjoy the ship more. I also wish we had chosen the optional tour to Lake Bled when we stopped in Slovenia. We did take an optional tour in Dubrovnik- Land & Sea and in Athens-Acropolis & Museum. We ate dinner at Manfredo’s one night-excellent food & service. We love not having a casino, millions of photos, art sales & “sail always”- let’s sell more drinks. Also enjoys lectures rather than constant shows. On Viking there is a good mix of different kinds of entertainment. Read Less
