Our experience with Viking was excellent right from the time we embarked. The whole trip went very smoothly. Our cabin was compact but we didn't spend a great deal of time in it. Always well taken care of. Enjoyed the heated bathroom floor. Every meal was excellent. Good selection and the dining staff went out of their way to look after us. Lots to eat, no reason to go away from the table hungry. All the staff that we interacted with were exceptional. They were ready to answer any and all questions that were presented to them. We especially enjoyed Gary our program director. He went out of his way to look after us. We had some interesting trivia games in the evening. . The shore excursions and tours were very interesting. We saw many interesting castles, churches etc. The scenery was beautiful along the Rhine and Danube River. We would most certainly travel with them again. Read Less

We love the comfort of cruise traveling and the beautiful towns along the Danube, Main and Rhine Rivers. The food was wonderful the employees were courteous and fun and the scenery along the rivers is beautiful. We enjoyed all the included excursions as well as the extra excursions. Our favorites were the Palace, Castle and Winery tour and the Top of Cologne. We also enjoyed Rothenberg, the Vienna Concert and the trip through Bavaria to Saltzberg. The only one that was disappointing was the Lipizzaner Stallion tour. You walk through the barn and see the horses in their stalls, walk through the gardens and eat Sacartort at a pretty restaurant. Interesting, but would have been better if at least one horse had been shown. We also would not recommend to new wine dinner. The food was ok, but the wine was not good. However, the violin player was excellent! We arrived in Budapest two days early and spent time exploring the city on our own and did a nighttime dinner cruise. Do not miss the Opera House, St. Stephen’s, Castle Hill and a tour of Parliament. We did not extend our trip in Amsterdam as we had visited there on a prior trip. Read Less

We chose this cruise quite by accident because some friends were already booked and we decided to tag along. We could not have been luckier. We ended up with the last room on the boat, suite 308 - which we loved! The ship is constantly being cleaned, we never had a dirty window. The crew was young and friendly and from a variety of countries through Europe and abroad. We loved the diversity. With the suite you also get free laundry service - which sounds silly - but it was the icing on the cake for me! The space in our room and the additional light was wonderful. I never felt closed in. Our cruise director was Gary and he was incredibly organized, everything went off without a hitch. He made it very clear that the excursions leave on time and don't be late. I appreciated that. Each excursion was wonderful. The daily talks from Gary on what to expect the next day were very helpful. The food was pretty good. Loved breakfast - lunch was only so/so and dinner was sometimes fantastic and sometimes missed the mark. But we weren't there for the food, we were there for the itinerary - which did not disappoint. Each small village after another was unique and wonderful. The bigger cities were also interesting and charming. Loved it - can't wait to go back - I would do the same trip again. Read Less

Everybody I met were so pleasant to be around. The crew was so helpful with everything I asked about always a smile on their faces no matter how many times I may ask a question and no matter how dumb. The food was great now I'm not much of a fancy eater and there were alot of things I didn't try but I never went hungry they made sure I had something I would like. The desserts were to die for. Our cabin was always clean and fresh towels even when I didn't ask. And the public bathrooms were clean every hour which tells me they care a great deal. Theres nothing worse then a dirty bathroom. Our tours were well informed and though a little hard at times I just kept on moving.lol I was very said on that last day saying goodbye to my new friends was rough. This was our first river cruise, and Viking made it a memorable journey. We will definitely consider future cruises on Viking. We learned so much about culture and history of the cities and countries through which we traveled. The accommodations on our ship were excellent, and we thought the French balcony was perfect as a way to have a great view without paying extra for a veranda. The food in the dining room was always delicious and beautifully presented. All of the staff members were consistently helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. We selected a number of the optional shore excursions, which kept us very busy during the cruise. At times we might have liked a more leisurely schedule, but in retrospect, we can't think of any of the optional trips we would have omitted. The local guides were well prepared and provided extensive information about each of the ports and other excursions. Overall, the trip was well worth the cost, and we will recommend Viking river cruises to our friends. Read Less

We did "The Grand European" tour, 14 days on the ship followed by 2 days in Amsterdam. We actually were on 2 different ships because due to low water level on the Danube, we had to change ships. - We started on Magni and transferred to Baldur. In Passau, Germany, we packed up and got off and took a bus around the low water level while the guests on Baldur did the same and we traded ships. The crew stayed with each ship except for the program director. She came with us. Which was great. We had Tessa and she was fantastic! Viking made this transition as smooth as possible. We signed up for many excursions online beforehand and one thing I would have found helpful would have been for the website to talk about travel time for these excursions. For instance, some of them you are on a bus for an hour or longer to get to the excursion. That said, we still enjoyed them and had a great time. At each excursion you have a different tour guide and I was surprised by the wide variety of experience of these tour guides. Some were very good, others were difficult to understand or had unpleasant attitudes. The food was a challenge for us, but may be not for most people. We prefer to eat light and healthy and found that, that was difficult. The Aquavit Terrace is a very pleasant place to eat and breakfast is great there, lunch was o.k., but dinner only had a few selections. We aren't drinkers and found that there was a lot of focus on wine and drinking. - We expected that, but still didn't like it. The staff on both ships was excellent and attentive. Overall, we had a great time. Read Less

We choose this 14-day cruise because it touched on all the highlights we wanted to see on our first trip through Europe. Additionally, we did a pre and post cruise extended stay. The pre-cruise stay was in Prague. The post-cruise stay was in Amsterdam. Both are beautiful cities and the hotels that Viking put us in were first class. I get seasick on the ocean, but not rivers or lakes. Thus, a river cruise was a great option. We took advantage of most of the optional excursions and can't really choose a favorite. They were all fantastic in their own ways. Food aboard the ship was both excellent and plentiful. We also had a few meals in various cities both as optional excursions and on our own. This gave us the opportunity to taste the local cuisine. Perhaps the most important thing about any hotel stay (make no mistake, a Viking ship is a floating hotel) is the attentiveness of the staff. Viking's staff and crew are par excellence! As an example, we had to change ships because the river was too low at one point making passage under bridges in that area impossible. So, we disembarked our original ship, took a bus ride to another ship, then boarded it all within a couple hours. The passengers of the other ship did the same; in essence, we traded ships. What really stands out is how smoothly this transition went and the warm welcome we received at our new ship by the new crew/staff. For continuity, our Cruise Director, Gary, stayed with us and continued to ensure we all had a top-notch cruise. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we're planning to take a Viking river cruise in China in two years. I highly recommend Viking! Read Less

The start and the end of the vacation is the horror story, the middle of the vacation was very good. I'll start with the bad part. After departing our first airport a little late due to plane issues, we missed our international connecting flight. After multiple rebookings due to weather and spending 2 nights at Atlanta and one night at JFK we finally arrived late in the day on day 3 of our cruise with no luggage. Luggage didn't arrive until day 7 of the cruise. Due to the late arrival we missed all of Budapest and all the activities of Vienna. Now here's where the horror story really got ugly. When we returned Delta apologized for the flight delays and said they would refund our ticket price but since Viking bought the ticket they would get the refund and we should contact the purchasing agent. When Viking was contacted they refused any refund and said that the cruise included free air so we were not entitled to any compensation. Therefore I will not cruise with Viking again ever. Once we were on the cruise, the scenery and stops were beautiful. River cruising is so different from ocean cruising due to the constant scenery while underway. We encountered low water at the continental divide so we were bussed passed the low water area and transferred to another ship that was cruising from Amsterdam. The ships were identical and the transfer was not a big hassle. I did want to see the river around Regensburg and the continental divide but river conditions dictate that decision. Due to the low clearance of the overhead obstructions at the locks, the upper deck was closed for a few days starting around Nuremberg. I believe this would happen even if the river levels had been different. The castles, cathedrals and palaces are all very interesting in their own ways. The cathedrals are amazingly beautiful. The Danube-Main-Rhine rivers are a great venue for a cruise. I just regret the way I was treated after the difficulty of getting to Budapest. One other thought, don't think that because you have trip insurance your losses will be covered. This is where the fine print comes into play and the insurance company is the policy interpreter. I thought there was an excellent balance of activities and "down time". The tours were educational and entertaining. Having local guides was a perfect touch. Our director, Marie, was exceptional!! I can't say enough about her! I had airline connection problems and arrived one day late for the cruise and the Viking staff were helpful with our problem and the ship staff welcomed us with open arms the next day--picked us up at the airport, saved lunch for us, and took us right to our cabin. Friends had taken Viking cruises, including this one, and raved about them. We found everything, from our cabin, to the staff, to the tour guides, to be exceptional. The AA Veranda cabin was spacious and comfortable. I could arise early, drink my tea, and read or enjoy the view in one room, while my wife was able to sleep undisturbed in the other. Our cabin steward was outstanding. He could not have been more accommodating. Regardless of what requests we made of the staff, they fulfilled them, and always with a smile. The included tours were informative and entertaining, with local guides who were proud of their cities and very knowledgeable about them. We particularly enjoyed dining at Acquavit. The menu was not as extensive as the one in the dining room, but the restaurant is at the bow, allowing us to see where we were headed, and offering al fresco dining most days. Read Less

My wife and I had been discussing a river cruise for quite a while. We finally decided on the Grand European Cruise with Viking. All aspects of this cruise exceeded our expectations. The ship was modern. The stateroom while small was well furnished and immaculate. The French Balcony provided excellent views and great fresh air. The element that was totally outstanding was the devotion to customer service. We were asked many times during the cruise by several of the crew if we were satisfied and what more could they do for us. My wife was ill with a cough the last couple days and our waitress made her some tea with honey and lemon and brought that along with a light lunch to our cabin for her. The service was above and beyond our expectations. Our cruise director made sure we were well informed and entertained. The excursions both the included and several optional ones were enjoyable and enlightening. One thing we did not enjoy was the amount of walking required for some of the tours. We avoided the one described as strenuous but many of the others involved a lot of walking which for us was a bit much because we are older. To be fair though, all the guides would inquire about the speed of the walking and did offer to go slow if that is what we wanted/needed. They did their best to accommodate us but we didn't want to be a burden on the rest of the group. I have nothing but praise for their concern for their customers. My husband and I love to travel often taking backroads to truly see the countryside. We have been on a half dozen cruises (big ships) and the large crowds and shuffling of people just doesn't appeal to us. A good friend had suggested a European River Cruise and we had seen some ads for Viking Cruises. Our trip was a spur of the moment decision, literally, and we have no regrets, in fact, we sing the praises of our Viking Grand European Tour. We flew to Miami from St. Croix, and then took advantage of the 2 day pre-cruise stay in Amsterdam. What an incredible City with its marvelous transportation system, open markets and friendly people. We took a trip to Kuekenhof Gardens and I spent hours photographing the colorful tulips. The Hotel Okura was exceptional and the service outstanding. Departure went so smoothly, with our luggage being delivered to our cabin, a warm greeting and introduction by staff of the adventure ahead of us. The ship was well designed with spacious lounges, large dining room and lots of areas where you could find a cozy chair to read and relax. Our standard room was comfortable with ample storage. Even the bathroom had a good sized shower and plenty of hot water. The food service on this ship was outstanding with so many choices and great service. The buffet always had local delicacies and the presentations were photo worthy. The wait staff genuinely wanted to make our trip memorable and went out of their way to take care of us. I was amazed at the number of excursions offered and always, there were free options at each port and all were well worth attending. In fact, the choices were exception and it was hard to choose what to do. The walking tours were my favorite as we got to really see the towns and villages we visited. While on board, there was daily entertainment and lectures and evening gatherings. Our Program/Tour Director, Gary, was fantastic and his sense of humor kept us entertained. He was a great resource and truly contributed to the success of our trip. To me, one of the best parts of the trip, were the many new friends I have added to my life. With the limited number of travelers on the ship, we had the opportunity to meet the majority of people over the course of the tour. After a few days of sharing meals and excursions, we developed a group of friends that enjoyed the same interests. Months after our tour ended, we still stay in touch and one couple plans to come visit us. Just 3 months have passed and we have now signed up for a new cruise....CUBA. This time it will be on an ocean liner but smaller and more intimate. We look forward to another trip with Viking! Kudos to all of the staff and management for making our trip one of a lifetime! We just completed a Viking River cruise called Tulips and Windmills on the Viking Magni. This will be the last Viking cruise we will take! We have been on two previous Viking and three previous Uniworld river cruises. This is the worst cruise we have ever been on. We had planned to be able to drop off our bags at the boat and be in town to do some sightseeing and we had tickets to the Anne Frank house at 1:30 PM. We arrived at the airport early at 8:00 AM and found the Viking transfer people as expected just outside baggage pick up. However, we and others sat around for an hour waiting for other passengers to arrive. There was more than one bus but we waited and waited and finally got on the bus that took us to the boat arriving around 10:30 AM. We were able to make our prepaid ticketed tour at the Anne Frank House, but had to go there directly, losing any opportunity for our planned sightseeing along the way. Don’t know how they sorted out who they put on which bus, but this day it was not efficient for any of the travelers. Our Room: #323, Veranda A Stateroom, was reasonably well thought out, although the shower is quite small. Our first surprise was that our towels were like sandpaper, and I’m not exaggerating. We complained to the hotel management desk and were told by the clerk, that it’s probably just the water in Amsterdam causing the problem. We then spoke to housekeeping and were told they would try washing our towels separately and adding extra softener to see if it would help. That was marginally successful, but it was not the quality of our previous two Viking boats. Food service. The servers were good and worked very hard. However, the ship was severely understaffed in the dining area. We have never seen so few servers dealing with so many tables. On average, it took over two hours for a meal. Most meals started at seven and a considerable number of passengers were not able to finish the meal before the upstairs entertainment began. On our first evening meal, there was an accident in the kitchen over some pea soup that created an extended delay and obviously no soup for that night. There was a similar kitchen failure later with some equipment. We were also surprised at how small the portions had become compared to our previous trips. Breakfast was bacon, eggs, pastries and made to order omelets. On the breakfast line, the bacon was severely under cooked and was stuck together such that it was almost impossible to separate out one or two pieces. The scrambled eggs were like soup. Complaints got a correction for one day and then returned to the same situation which remained for the rest of the trip. Omelet line was the only safe alternative for warm breakfast. On one night, probably the best food of the whole trip was completely overshadowed by the incompetent way it was set up to be served. It was a free-for-all buffet line starting at the desserts and then going to the carved main dishes. Everyone entered the room as usual and went to their table where wine and drinks were served. On this evening, at about the time everyone was almost seated, the chef announced the buffet was open. It looked like the California Gold Rush. Many folks just gave up and went upstairs. What a disaster! For reasons, completely unprecedented in our experience, the Captain’s farewell dinner was moved up to the second night before disembarking. A glorious meal of surf and turf was on the menu. The steaks were just okay, but the lobsters were grossly unprepared. Most returned them to the kitchen. We found out that the lobsters were not boiled, rather they chose to cook in the oven…. Ugh. The Tours: All the tours were exceptional and the one extra charge tour was outstanding. We loved the included tours. Guides were informative and local. Climbing up in a windmill and walking through the unbelievable gardens of Keukenhof is a sight we will long remember. The extra trip to Market Garden in Arnhem is well worth the additional cost. Unlike our previous 5 riverboat trips, water to take along was only available from our boat a few times. Since we were tied to other boats we nicked a water from them. We were rarely met upon return. No refreshments were offered. Substantial change from our past experiences. Like many other passengers we filled out the comment form required by Viking. Our responses were as per this review. Viking contacted us after returning home. That person had read the review and said she was sorry. She asked if we wanted to talk to customer service. We declined. We were called at a later date, after tweeting our experiences. She had the usual response of let us give you a credit for a future trip. It was not substantial and we declined as we no longer can trust Viking for riverboat cruising. It appears that Torstein Hagan has abandoned customer service on the river to concentrate on his new ocean ships. So, Sad. Read Less

Initially the deal of 2 for was the main reason. Price was good. Itinerary was good. On arrival the reception was faultless and booking in went so well without a hitch, shown to stateroom efficiently. The meals were tops and if still hungry could have had extra, had wine at meals. All the included tours were topical for the areas we were in. Included was the silver package so better wines and drinks were included and some very nice wines were tasted. More on staff at meals , they got to know your preference and were ready to assist at all times. Loved the whole experience and definitely would travel with Viking again. Unfortunately the weather was overcast most of the time but was not cold and air conditioning in the ship was good so could walk around inside in shirt and go outside for short time with shirt but not a long time. Locks were amazing for the first dozen but after that you ignored them or they were at night and all you saw was a brick wall beside your room. Read Less

First river cruise and first cruise in Europe. Wanted longer than normal cruises and an 18 days Amsterdam to Budapest was perfect. We went end of August and weather was perfect. We should have arrived in Amsterdam a couple days early as it took 2 days to recoup from jet lag. The free included tour at each port was outstanding - just enough organised guided tour so you could spend rest of stop on what you wanted to explore in more detail. Liked the informative lectures and the cuisine and wines that changed with the region you were sailing in. Bavarian Night was so much fun with the crew in southern German attire. The restaurant was decorated in red and white Bavarian decorations too. Even had a roasted pig and shots of Schnapps. Wife enjoyed the varying unending wine at dinner, Bitburger beer (the ship's draft beer) is now my favorite. Recommendation of travel agents and friends who had traveled with Viking previously. This company knows how to do things well. Everything was just an outstanding experience. Staff on the ship was top notch. Food was great. Excursions, both the included ones and the optional ones were terrific. Everything was extremely well organized and we loved how the staff took care of everything from the moment of embarkation to disembarkation and even for the three days that we extended in our final destination, Amsterdam. We would definitely recommend getting a cabin with a veranda which, although small, was a treat. It was so nice to be able to sit or stand and see the riverside views and take photographs. We especially like the optional excursions to Salzburg, Austria and Rothenberg, Germany. Highly recommend those two excursions. We are already thinking about the next Viking Cruise we would like to do. Thinking about the one that covers the part of the Danube that we didn't travel, from Budapest to Bucharest, or the Viking Homelands ocean cruise. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND VIKING CRUISES. Read Less

Exploring Amsterdam before sailing was an excellent way to deal with jet lag and get in the spirit of being in Europe. As the weather was lovely we spent our time wandering the city, taking a canal tour and visiting Naarden. While our embarkation location moved to outside the city center, the change was handled smoothly. A city tour was offered but since we'd already explored Amsterdam we decided to get settled on the Magni. Our cabin was cozy but comfortable. We spent little time in it as the common areas where well appointed and we took the opportunity to chat with other guests. The on-board musician and bartenders made the common room a fun place to be, with lectures, cooking and glassblowing demonstrations and game nights rounding out the program. They say an army travels on its stomach and you can say the same about the cruise. Our chef and his staff highlighted the local cuisine daily, and there was numerous options for guests who felt less adventuresome. A leisurely three course meal and open seating gave us the opportunity to meet most of our fellow passengers. There was an included tour at each stop, with optional tours available to satisfy different interests. The included tours were structured so that all fitness levels could participate, and local guides gave a personal flavor to the cities we visited. A favorite was the Chef's Market tour in Vienna. The best part of the cruise was the staff and the level of service they provided. Our cruise took place in the fall, where water levels can throw obstacles to smooth sailing. Despite the river periodically being closed our staff handled everything, from arranging buses to lunch for 200 people in a small German city. They made it interesting and fun, though I expect they were sweating the details it never showed. Their enthusiasm and care made our trip extra special. I was sorry to reach Budapest and the end of our trip. While it was necessary to vacate our cabin early we were welcome to stay on board until the ship was scheduled to leave, making travel arrangements easier to manage. I would definitely go again, and I hope you take the opportunity as well. Read Less

Since we had never been on any ocean or river cruise, we didn't know what to expect. The Viking experience set the bar higher for traveling again! Even though we had taken several trips with Trafalgar and one with Globis and thoroughly enjoyed these land trips, we prefer being on the cruise where we didn't have to pack and repack. Plus we were treated like royalty with the extras of the warm wash cloths and canapés when we returned to the ship after an excursion, loved the educational presentations and entertainment of the countries we were traveling to, and eating the ethnic foods of each country. We picked this cruise (Amsterdam to Budapest) because we felt we should take a longer cruise if we're going to fly all the way from the West Coast to Europe. It's beautiful ship, the cabin was wonderful (perhaps my favorite of any cruise we've been on), and the service was outstanding. Our only complaint was the dinner. First, we would prefer an earlier dining time. Beyond that, it sometimes took a long time to get our meal, it's very noisy and we felt the servers were pushing that evening's "special" too hard, almost trying to intimidate us into ordering it (our only service-related complaint). After the first couple of nights, our four traveling companions ended up having dinner in the Aquavit. Our menu selection was more limited, but we found the dinner there to be more relaxing. That said, the food on the ship was generally very good. I wouldn't rule out another Viking cruise. Read Less

We also booked the 4 nights after we got off the ship, 2 in Amsterdam and 2 in Ghent, w/ a day trip to Bruges, which was magical! I want to go again--maybe next year. Oh, and we were on the Magni, because of the Baldur getting delayed by a lock (?), and fortunately, we didn't have to switch. We loved the staff on the Magni! Read Less

This was our first river cruise and first time to Europe and we did not want to travel on our own. A river cruise was very appealing as we aren't ocean cruise fans. The itinerary was wonderful and we planned for a year! We felt "looked after" from the minute we arrived at the baggage claim area, actually in Prague where we did a wonderful pre-extension. Transfer to the hotel, then from Prague to Budapest was seamless. The speediest check-in ever experienced was a joy. All the tours along the way were narrated by experienced local guides and very well done. We loved the size of the ship, the accommodations, the common rooms. Tasteful. The dining experience was top-notch, beautiful to look at as well as to eat. Our chef, Gabor, was wonderful and entertaining. The wait staff remembered your name from the first introduction - no small feat when we moved around to different tables. Our program director, Marek Snelly was the BEST. Entertaining, witty, knowledgeable, a most wonderful man who made the trip extra special. The evening entertainment was spot-on for the locations. The service from everyone was impeccable, always smiling faces, anticipating every need or desire. All the ports held their own magic from tiny towns to the larger ones. WE POSITIVELY LOVED THIS CRUISE!! Read Less

My husband and I decided in July that we wanted to try and squeeze another cruise vacation in this year and August, 2016 was wide open for us. Viking had availability on the Elegant Elbe tour, leaving from Berlin and going to Prague. Because we booked so last minute, we got a great deal on our flight from Seattle to Berlin returning from Prague to Seattle for only $200!! The pre and post extensions were booked so we flew into Berlin three days early and toured the city ourselves. We stayed at the same hotel the viking pre-cruise patrons stayed at. We had no trouble hooking into Vikings program director, who gave us tips for touring Berlin. The river cruise, like our two previous ones was just plain wonderful. The Viking service, food, daily tours and onboard entertainment were terrific. However, The Elbe River was very shallow and the ship was unable to get into the last port of call. The cruise director was a seasoned veteran and obviously "knew his stuff", but he kept reminding us of the shallow river situation and it tended to put a negative spin on the cruise. Also the average age of passengers was quite a bit older than the last two Viking cruises we were on. And the program director being older as well, just wasnt as much fun as the other two program directors we experienced. The only other thing, I'd like to note is that the cruise covered a lot of Eastern Germany and the history of WWII and the Cold War. The history of Hitler's regime isnt exactly uplifting and a lot of the information gained was quite sobering. But I cant believe how much I didnt know and was grateful for the knowledge and expertise of our tour guides. Read Less

I just returned from a wonderful cruise aboard the Viking Magni. I couldn't be happier with my decision to cruise with Viking on this ship/itinerary. The ship itself is fairly new (2013) and is well maintained. Since I was traveling alone I had a cabin on the lower deck of the ship. I thought this might turn into a disappointment, but I was well pleased with the cabin, its location, and the cabin service. For example, mid trip when I opened the closet door the light bulb inside the closet died. I thought about contacting housekeeping, but decided I didn't really need the light. The next time I was in the closet, the bulb had been replaced without me ever mentioning it. My room steward was that thorough the whole trip, every detail seen to. The meals on board were outstanding with only one meal being what I would rate only as average. This was due more to the meat cut than the seasoning. When the waiter noticed I was only picking at it he quickly replaced it with a different selection. All the waiters were very attentive and most of the time would anticipate your needs without your needing to ask (drinks filled, bread replaced, etc.) The included ports and tours were very good. There were only two tour guides I had (each grouping had a different guide) that were only average, but most were very informative and entertaining. All of the optional tours I took were exceptional. However, I enjoyed Rothenburg and Schonbrunn palace the most of the tours I booked. Everyone that went had great things to say about the Salzburg and Numerburg War tours as well, but I personally didn't go on those (but after hearing about them I wish I had). There were several on board entertainments offered. These were all well done. My favorite being a glass blowing demonstration. A couple of other thing of note, Viking and the program director did a wonderful job of keeping everyone informed of everything that was taking place. Any types of issues effecting our travels (traffic jam at the locks for us), we were informed as soon as they knew and we were told if and how this would effect our timetable. We were never left guessing what was going on or why. Also I was amazing at how prompt everything was. If the tour bus was supposed to leave for the ship at a certain time, it did. The buses didn't wait on stragglers. I was told that Viking had someone who stayed behind to deal with the late arrivals, but I was never late so I can't speak from experience on that, I was just pleased that since I showed up on time I wasn't left waiting on the bus due to someone else being late. Overall the whole trip exceeded my expectations. From the time I was met at the airport until I was escorted back to the airport, Viking took care of everything. I couldn't have been happier with my experience with Viking and wouldn't hesitate to book with them again. Note: I was a full fare paying passenger on this cruise. I wrote this review because I wasn't finding many recent reviews about the Viking Magni when I was researching my trip and wanted to help others who were considering this ship/trip. Read Less

To visit areas of Europe we had not previously seen. The tours were uniformly excellent. The crew was superb, especially the cruise director, Stein and the head chef, George. They made every day special. The concierge, Cathy was extraordinarily helpful and supportive and we deeply appreciate the arrangements she made for us. Ship was clean throughout, cabin was spacious, cabin service excellent. Meals were uniformly excellent. On board lectures were educational and entertaining. The Vienna concert was a true hilight of the tour. The tour of Nurmberg gave us an opportunity to see the locations which shaped World War II, and provided a conclusion to the Travis events of that time. The tours of Passau and Regensburg allowed us to see the heart of ancient European architecture. The organ concert, I believe in Passau, was a superb end to that excursion. As the Passau tour ended in the center of the city, we had ample opportunity to explore the area on our own. We found a wonderful restaurant in which we were the only Americans and enjoyed a lovely lunch with seats overlooking the Danube River. In Regensburg we ate in the little sausage shop under the bridge surrounded by local citizens. The Bishopo's Residence in Wurzburg was truly spectacular. We highly recommend this cruise. Read Less
