The boat was overcrowded and not enough staff to attend to everyone. Since gratuities were suppose to be paid all upfront they did not have to work hard to get people there food or drinks, I waited 20-30 min for drinks and at dinner took 2hrs. at least. But then once you are on the boat they hit you with a 15$per person per day charge for someone to make up your room. If you want decent food you have to go to the specialty restaurant and pay for it. The adult pool was so small and way overcrowded. They had another adult pool but it had limited spots and fee was 210 per person for the week. The Spa was a nice facility. So one would think that after you pay for an overpriced massage you can use the rest of the amenities there but No that's an extra fee too. So be wary when you think you have an all inclusive they are so many hidden fees. Also the shows sucked, Royal Caribbean is such a better cruise line. Read Less

The quality of the crew, their attentiveness and professionalism was far lacking. It was apparent they did not care to be on the ship. From boarding to disboarding the overall attitude toward passengers made me wish I was not there. The quality of the food was horrendous, soups had no whole ingredients and were clearly powdered. I myself was sick the entire trip! The setup on ship was a detriment to anyone not there with a whole family as they corralled guests into areas such as Skyline for evening parties (an area much too small for all guests) and then closed the only place to get a drink when passengers engaged in fighting due to the cramped conditions. The adult only pools/ hot tubs were nearly never enforced! I never got to enjoy the pool/ hot tub areas due to an excess of children present at all times splashing and screaming. When I put forth the money to get a spa experience in hopes of some kind of relaxation I was shorted the whole service (tip to toe) including a collagen eye treatment I never received even after asking about completing the service. It was nearly impossible to find a quiet space or other singles on the ship. I spent more money on this cruise than my last and am utterly shocked by my experience with Norwegian as a whole. No kind of vacation I would choose for myself again. Read Less

My family and I went on the Norwegian Escape on July 7th to Bermuda. Let me start with the pro's getting on and off the ship was excellent. It was fast and smooth. The Specialty Restaurants were excellent. We had dinner at Cagney's, Teppanyaki and La Cucina and the food and service was excellent. Now for the con's -- most rude and nasty staff. They never had a smile on their faces and seemed bothered all the time. The amount of sighs we received was crazy. The food in the buffet is terrible and disgusting. The same everyday. The Manhattan Room (main dining room) the food was cold and horrible. Now for the pool, there was no activities very boring. The cruise director was never seen and he was rude. The Choir of the Man was an excellent show. That was only show that we enjoyed. Never again. No NCL. Read Less

For a new boat, the Escape had many flaws and was just average. It was ENORMOUS, but not in a good way, in my opinion. Although I have heard good things about Norwegian, my family and I did not love the Escape. First of all, the main adult pool was WAY TOO SMALL for such a big ship. Not sure why they designed such a big boat with such a small pool. And the worst part of it was, it was either 8 feet deep where you had to tread water, or you had to sit on the side, but because the pool was so small, there was never anywhere to sit. Second, because there are 4000 people on this ship, the decks were lined up with endless rows of lounge chairs so tight that it was extremely hard to pass through and we felt like sardines while we layed out. There were no tables whatsoever to put food or drinks down either. Would’ve been nice to see some comfortable lounge seating with tables on the upper deck by the glass. Although lounge seating is available on the eighth floor deck but it is very cool and shaded and is in a designated “quiet area”. The restaurants had good food, but not great like you would expect on a cruise. It was just OK. Water slides and zip lines always had long lines and my kids went on only once. (Personally, I thought they were an eyesore on the boat.) Service overall was friendly. Their show “After Midnight” was the only entertainment I really enjoyed. However, the ship did have a lot of very nice tucked away bars and the drinks were delicious, using top shelf liquor. Overall ship was very clean. Embarkation and disembarkation was extremely smooth considering the amount of people. Read Less

The restaurants had some of the worst food I have ever had and the service was terribly slow. It seemed like they bought the cheapest buffet food online and then tried to feed it to us! Half the buffet was closed almost all of the time and half of the golf course was closed off when we got there! The remote in our room only worked about .3% of the time. I finally was able to rent a movie on the tv and then the TV glitched and deleted it! It was $10.00 for the movie! The woman at the Atrium bar was very rude and made consistently rude comments to us so we complained to customer service and they were unable to assist us. Everything from the pool tables to the regular tables looked run down and old. We turned on the light to have our room made up and towels exchanged and the cleaning woman came in turned off the light and closed the door! She did not clean the room, exchange the towels or even come back! The room service was a joke and took forever to get there. They forgot a part of the same order 3 times and brought it town 2 hours later. We had to keep calling to follow up. The entertainment was lacking and the movies were showed in the Atrium which is located in the center of the ship so you could not hear anything! We were just happy to get off the forsaken nightmare that was that ship. I have cruised with Princess, Royal Carribean and Celebrity and have never had a bad experience on their ships. Save your money and go with a different company or you will have a bad time. Read Less

I have thoroughly enjoyed all of my Norwegian cruises except for my recent one week June cruise (June 2019) roundtrip from New York City to Bermuda. The cruise was aboard the Norwegian Escape. I was shocked by how poorly designed the ship was for over 4000 people and how unfriendly some of the staff was. I have been on large ships (4000+) of two other cruise lines -- Princess and MSC. These ships were comfortable and could easily accommodate all of the passenger. HOWEVER, THE NORWEGIAN ESCAPE WAS FILLED WITH CRAMPED AND UNCOMFORTABLE SPACES AND DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH STAFF TO PROPERLY HANDLE ALL OF THE PASSENGER. The Design of the Escape First of about the cabin. I have never had such a small balcony cabin on any ship that I have ever been on. The cabin was long and narrow -- Not really enough space to easily move around the cabin. There was insufficient storage for clothes so we had to keep some of our things in our suitcases. The bathroom was a comfortable size, but I would have accepted a smaller bathroom to have increased living area. The balcony was the smallest I ever stepped foot on. The lounges and bar areas were extremely small and some were oddly shaped so that patrons could not view the stage entertainment from where they were seated. The pool area was small and the pools were small as well. The whole area was cramped and because of upper decks, we felt like we were surrounded by skyscrapers which blocked most of the sun. The gym area not only was not tiny with insufficient equipment for 4000 guests,, but also did not have showers, saunas, and only had single patron washrooms. I could go on, but I think I have given you a good idea of why we will never go on the Escape or other Breakaway class ships of Norwegian Cruise Lines. The Staff The Guest Services Staff, the Casino Staff, and the Future Cruise Consultants made excuses about problems rather than being helpful. Many times they were very defensive about what had happened. Just one example. The Casino occasionally gave Canadian and Bermudian money in change when casing a ticket for a guest. They have given me 80 cents -- 60 cents Canadian and 10 cents US. When I returned to the Casino cashier, she denied that they had given me the change. Guest Services was no help either. So I returned to the Casino staff and argued my case. Eventually they gave me 70 cents for the Canadian and kept the Bermudian dime. Housekeeping was not responsive to us at all. When we requested that our towels be replaced, they said they would. We contacted them a second time. However, we had to go to Guest Services in person to request towels. We tried to call Guest Services and they never answered the phone for us. Our Cabin steward was lackadaisical. This cruise was the first time that we did not give our cabin steward an extra tip. However, the serving staff in the restaurants and in the buffet were absolutely excellent. The food was very good. Bermuda was great as well. The only positive things about the cruise. Overall, the cruise ship and staff were a disappointment and I will avoid Norwegian's larger ships. Read Less

Though it was a good buy to beautiful Bermuda - but was mistaken -the actual cost was nearly three times the ad price.. .Low quality, not fun and they actually yelled at us customers! Buyer beware - use a travel agent. At departure off the ship at 7:45 am, they had us jammed in the elevator area with our luggage and squished further as more people came out the elevators for more than 20 minutes! They yelled at us as we tried to get out of one another's way in the congestion! Very stress full, uncomfortable and unnecessary for our last impression. My other three cruise you just walk off the ship. The water slides were frequently down for repair and when the were running the water flow was so low you hardly slid at all more like crawling down the slide. The Atrium area was often very congested because of poor design and the lack of space on the ship. The entertainment was often poor . Things were canceled often. Some were just sales tricks to get your money. Choir of Man and After Midnight were very good shows ! The food was fair to poor. Twice I got fishy salmon. Food was often over cooked and dry. They give out very small piece of watermelon infrequently. The deserts are mostly just puddings. Read Less

The 3rd one i dont even remember but it was bad food so that will give you an idea of what that was like. They had entertainment good for the teens and that was it.Terrible.The comedy club was so so.Only good thing was the bar and thank god for that or we would of starved. How could they charge what they did when the food was so terrible i dont know.We had a white party and loud music for teens and children no matter what age were allowed till midnight. That ruined it for the adults who wanted to dance and drink. All in all stay away from norweigan any of them. This was my second norweigan ship and never ever again.Hope i did the required amount of letters which is so stupid also Read Less

Taste & Savor had horrible service with buffet quality food. I can say the Manhattan room was best dinner on board. Great Stirrup Cay Island was so crowded with 2 other ships there you could barely get in water in the designated swim areas. Most non relaxing vacation I have ever had. Bahamas was nice but it took long to get there only giving us 4 hours at the Blue Lagoon. We chose this cruise since it was close to home and available during the week we wanted to go on vacation. It was a pretty terrible cruise with the Captain almost getting us killed sailing into a storm with over 100mph gales that were forecasted, We woke at night with the ship listing and everything flying in our room. Many people on the ship were injured. Shame on the Captain for proceeding with this sailing into the storm. The cruise line has not refunded us or given us a credit. This cruise also had very few and terrible shows with the exception of "After Midnight". The Choir of Men was pretty bad. I do not want to see men urinating on stage. There were only 2 shows and the magic shows was horrible with just card tricks for one hour. I felt bad for the bored kids. The comedy sows were in small lounges so you would have to arrive at least half an hour early. There is no place to go on deck to relax in the cold unless you want to pay a cover charge at the Haven or Margaritaville. The Internet is the most expensive at sea and the slowest of all cruise lines! The only positive part of the ship was the dining in the main dining rooms. The service was generally very good as well as the food. The SPA customer service was horrible and they have a nasty SPA manager. This was my first Norwegian and it will be out last. An unexpected gust of wind at 115mph hit the ship. It was very scary moment but the crew had everything under control and took care of all that were injured during this experience. My 9 year-old son and I travelled on the Escape from New York to Nassau on march 2019. We were just the 2 of us for a week full of activities and adventures... Did not go as expected. FYI, it costed us 2300$ for the cruise and an extra 1000$ for all other fee, and I did not have a drop of alcohol or eat in a restaurant. (extra is for parking in NY pier, Shore excursions - kennedy space center and blue lagoon island- bingo, and souvenirs - 2 stuffed animals) First we had a live remake of the Titanic on our first night. Our ship was tilted on a 25 degree angle for 15 minutes. People screaming and running, injured passengers and everything in our stateroom was on the floor (glasses, bottles...) The other nights it was better, but still it was rocking A LOT and furnitures on the balcony kept on shifting and making a lot of noise (preventing us from sleeping). Then the ship was OVERBOOKED. It was our spring break, so we were expecting a lot of kids and people everywhere, and we were perfectly fine with it. But when you have a ship family-oriented of a capacity of more thant 4500 passengers, and there is 1 pool for kids with a capacity of 43.... What about waiting in line for 1 hour to get in a pool? Awful. Same thing with the waterslides, ping pong, bocce ball, mini golf, rope course... We had to wait for every activity, every day. An overbooked ship means a lot of people to feed as well. 15-20 minutes of running around at the buffet to get a table. And we were just 2! Can't imagine the family of 5-6 people trying to get seated. Same thing for a la carte restaurant, 30-45 minutes waiting to get in. Food was excellent though and service very good. Being on our first cruise, we had a balcony stateroom and very happy about it. Super clean and confortable, nothing to say. Except for the sound insulation... I mean we could hear the neighbours talk. So that prevented us from sleeping, again. Did not sleep a lot that week, I got home more tired than I was before leaving for the cruise. Because of the temperature we did not stop at Great Stirrup Cay, and we ended up spending a day and a half in Nassau instead. Port Canaveral and Nassau were great, nothing wrong with that. Easy to get off and on the ship. Entertainment.... honestly, almost everything cost money. My son wanted to play bingo. It was written that there was a fee, but I was fine with it, until I discovered that it costed 39USD to play 3 games of bingo. I mean WHAT??? Did not last an hour... and of course nobody won the jackpot. This is theft honestly. Then if you want to play other games, you still need to pay. There was a theater but no movie for children at all. And shows were not kid-oriented neither. It is not a disney cruise, but when you have a ship with waterslides, we expect to have at least a little more for kids during the day and early evening. Honestly I think that it was not price-worthy at all. We had the fear of our lives and could not enjoy all the activities and amenities on the ship because of the crowd. I do not recommend sailing with NCL on spring break at all. Read Less

Let me preface this by saying I am usually a glass half full kind of person. I grew up without a lot so appreciate the little things in life and understand the value of a dollar. With that being said, I have never cruised before and probably never will after this experience. Too many people and not enough space. Getting on the boat was a nightmare 1 hour and 45 minute wait in line with bags in hand. The terminal is filthy. Then our rooms weren't ready so we sat outside on the cold deck with hundreds of others in 12 degree weather. I didn't realize we had other options on other floors to sit inside. My room was not vacuumed and Legos were on the floor. The mirrors had spots all over them. I cleaned the room before I unpacked. Very annoying after being cold and tired. During the remainder of the week things seemed to stay the same. Not enough chairs and crowded hot tubs, pool and activities. We were off the boat a total of 10 hours in 7 days. One short stop to Coco beach and one to Belmora island. I was ready to pull my hair out. We were unable to tender to Great Stirrup Cay which I understand is not the ships fault exactly, but from my research this happens often. Why advertise if it's a 50/50 chance the boat will stop? Our boat to Belmora island was in shambles and the island was disgusting with garbage and litter all over. Don't even get me started on the "luxury cabanas", it's embarrassing to advertise them as such. I wonder when the last time the pools at this place were cleaned. Getting off the boat was the best/easiest part. The sad part of all of this...my husband is 16 years in the Navy and coming up on a deployment and will be away from our family for the next 9 months or so. This was our last vacation before he leaves. I'm crushed. We tried to make the most of it but unfortunately it just wasn't feasible and we are cranky and tired from the whole experience. Read Less

The staff was good but that’s about all I can compliment. Had a time to check in at the port and it took over 3 hours to get on the boat. Paid a lot of money for a cruise that was half the price at another time. No room in the kids camp so I paid full price for a child and they had nothing to do. The buffet was just OK and any of the sit down restaurants were slow. Dinner was no less than 2 hours each night. Got the arcade package and the amount of games for the kids to play was pathetic, and make sure you have any issues with the arcade package make sure who you speak to you get a name and write down the outcome and have them initial it. They scam you however they can. Pictures are absolutely outrageous in price, $25.00 for a 8 x 10, so it’s seriously highway robbery. The amount of money I paid for 2 people in a balcony room was $3400.00 and than had a $1600.00 bill when we got off the boat. I’ve cruised plenty before with other lines and this cruise line I felt like they totally ripped us off. Also they broke my Moms suitcase and they put a black silicone on it instead of filing out a claim form to have it replaced. Just very unhappy about 3/4 of the trip. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it sailed out of Manhattan which is convenient for us . The cruise was horrible right from the very beginning when we had to stand in the lines for hours upon hours. Our time to be at the port was at 11:30 and we began standing in the line at about 1115. We were corralled through the port for the next 3 1/2 hours before getting on the ship. By the time we got on our backs are killing us and we didn't really feel like doing anything. That was just the beginning to the lines. We waited in lines for drinks, in lines for dinner . if you ate breakfast or lunch in the buffet area, garden café, you had to walk around the circle 3 to 4 times trying to find somebody who is going to get up so that you could quickly grab their table and then wait for it to be wiped down. People were sitting outside trying to eat when it was only 40 degrees. There was literally no place else to sit. They gave my daughter the alcohol pass, she is only 13 and gave me the soda pass. Seems like a simple fix but we spent hours in guest services lines day after day. It took 3 days, 4 phone calls and 5 visits to guest services before this was fixed. Guest services will typically tell you you are all set just to get you out of the line and then you'll find out later that nothing was done. At least 6 hours of time was spent in Guest services, waiting and waiting. They were definitely not the only unhappy customers as the lines were always so long. We used the TV application to try to get reservations for a show but could not get a single show The entire trip. We were told it was sold out well before they sailed. One of our ports was cancelled (this is not their fault) but with everybody back on the ship there was literally no place to go. People were getting in fights over lawn chairs and everybody was miserable. The only excuse they could give people is that' they had too many people on board. They did not seem to understand that that was still all their fault! Food was very average but edible most nights. Cagney was good , moderno was okay, la cuccina was bad. Complementary dining was average. Mojito bar was great. Read Less

This was part of back to back cruises. There was an outbreak of Neuro Virus on the cruise before. At check in they continuously gave false info kept people waiting for hours overloading the terminal. They never said outright at terminal there was an outbreak. They did not give us option to cancel at pier and get money back. When on board we called NCL and my agent called NCL. They refused to offer us a thing. The ship was a complete mess Everything was cleared away. No menus on bars no spa no vacuum for a week. Service was just absolutely awful and NCL just has terrible customer relations and just don't care. Other cruise lines that had this kind of outbreak offered you option to not sail and refund your money or sail get partial money back and large discounts on next cruise On top of that right while we were sailing they removed tons of drinks from the menu and made their prices outrageous You now have to buy a premium drinks package above the regular one at $35 a day to cover it. That was not available yet. The only thing was after a wrote a stinging not to hotel director did customer service supervisor do something for me on second part of cruise. The Epic just had a crash and NCL refused to give any money back. Only 50% off on next cruise. This CEO is really something. No customer relations at all. They just don't care about anything or anybody. Read Less

Our cruise left a lot to be desired. We are platinum members of ncl and this cruise was my 16th cruise and the worst, maybe even my last. We arrived at terminal 11:30am. As platinum we should have priority boarding .. We did not ...in fact, when we asked about it we were asked..."are you haven?" we said, "no, we are platinum"  she smerked, "only haven is priority". That turned out to be the theme of our cruise, that AND the ship was filthy, full of airborne sickness and the crew was angry We sat and waited for over 4 hours packed in the terminal with over 4k other people. The ship was quarantined due to a bug effecting over 300 staff and/or passengers. We were not told this until after we were on the ship!!! We were not able to leave and rebook! We were not given a choice. Nope we were forced to embark on a journey trapped with an airborne and contact virus that could cause fatality in the elderly or immunocompromised. Once onboard, the rooms were unavailable for about 4 move hours with passengers standing with their carry on baggage or sitting on the stairways and such. eerie, quite, cold, and none of the staff smiling, as they were clearly exhausted from the previous cruise and seemed to be angry that "we were now there". When the rooms were said to be available they were filthy, yes clearly unvacuumed, with smudged mirrors, walls and doors and oh yes the sheets weren't changed on the bed in our mini suite. Yes, that's what over $6,000 before service charges and excursions got us. It was not only our cabin --it was all over the ship. The walls were dripping with sanitizer water. You could not touch anything. Every surface was dripping. Lines to customer service were very long; even at midnight people were complaining that they did not have their cabins cleaned and their bed were still upside down. Several of the crew were running around with breathing masks wiping walls and your door and handles leaving them dripping and wet. With a foul smelling disinfectant while passengers were forced to tolerate the breathing conditions with nothing. We did nothing at the first port due to late departure from ny it was supposed to be 3pm and we left at 7pm. Many brands of drinks were removed from the so called ultimate drinking package. The communication from the management was tight lipped and unavailable. From their own customer service people, "the home office is aware of the problem and has given us no answer". The food was warm to cold when served. Very bland and constantly the same. The worst food of any vacation ever. Passengers were not allowed to touch anything in the restaurants or buffett unless it was handed to us. Lines, lines and more lines. Angry, pushy staff constantly yelling about watching our handwashing and constantly trying to spray us with their mixture instead of letting us use the gel. I had to try and comfort a fellow guest who was literally shaking after being chased by a crew member because she didn't want to be sprayed. We were treated like we brought a plague on the ship, when in reality, they withheld the fact that the ship was contagious until after we were at sea giving us no way to back out of the cruise as we had insurance for cancellation. I don't know how that was even legal. Except for one comedian and the choir of men, the entertainment was awful and the only show that we booked prior to cruising (the brat pack) was canceled. The onboard activities were mediocre at best. The debarkation was just as awful as getting on the cruise. The ship had to be steamed/fogged due to the norovirus so we had to get out of our rooms early and stand around for hours so they could be ready for the next cruise. My husband and i became sick that first night home and for six days after from the recirculated air on the ship full of bacteria and germs. Who knows what all the sprays and disinfectants along with the germs being recirculated throughout the ship did to us. We had paid for insurance, but they made sure we couldn't use it by not telling us until we were at sea. So disappointed in ncl. Will think about this awful experience when booking our next cruise. Not even a follow up apology or credit on for a future cruise. Are we a valued customer? Guess not. Why does ncl have a loyalty program when they are not loyal to us? Does ncl read these reviews or pay attention to the ones we took the time to fill out for them post cruise? We haven't heard a peep from ncl. I heard jim cramer say ncl was a stock worth buying because the ceo said he had great things planned for the future and it made me more excited for the cruise. I guess i learned my lesson about loyalty programs, they only care about the haven now. New people, double the money, but i think ncl will be sad to learn that those people will expect return loyalty as well by the time ncl sees that,we will switch cruise lines. Read Less

I am platinum latitude member and it was my 9th cruise. And it was the worse cruise I have ever had. I will try to tell you why…. The embarkation was total chaos. They postponed it for 3 hours. It started only at 1 pm. It looked like 4,000 passengers were trapped in a single terminal room without water and poor air. There were a lot of old people and a couple of them fainted. Having so many people in one room could have been deadly in an emergency. It was very different just to walk into the ship: Quite and cold, unwelcome, none of the staff cheering, laughing, and no washi-washi songs. They were clearly exhausted from the previous cruise. People were moving slowly in complete silence. When they finally admitted us to the ship, cabins were not ready. Beds were upside down, dirty cabins, showers with hair on the floor. It was not only our cabin --it was all over the ship. The crew were washing every wall, elevator, railings, and buttons, everywhere. The walls were dripping with sanitizer water. You could not touch anything. Every surface was dripping. Lines to customer service were very long; even at midnight people were complaining that they did not have their cabins cleaned and their bed were still upside down. They did not vacuum our cabins or any floors until the last day of the cruise. We had to wipe the dust, hair, and filth off our feet before climbing into bed each night. In the cafe: we were not allowed to touch anything. They handed us plates and silverware, cups, etc. We had to be served all food and drinks. This caused long lines everywhere and a lot of anger. The salt and pepper shakers ketchup, mustard disappeared from the tables. To get it you had to stay on line again. To get tea, juice, or water – stay on line. To use the same plate or cup was not allowed. All cushions were removed from the seats. In the lounges, people were sitting or lying on bare foam for the first week of the cruise. Seat covers did not begin to be replaced until the second week. Some were never replaced. People were not allowed to get to the cafe without washing hands before entering the café (which is a good safety measure at any time). They also started a mandatory announcement from the CDC three times a day during the whole cruise, up until the last three days. It was very annoying, but also very instructional. We learned that the CDC requires this level of response for up to three days after the last case of disease. Since they made this announcement and kept up the strict hospital situation until three days before our return that means there were continual outbreaks of disease throughout OUR cruise, even though the announcement said there was a problem ONLY on the last cruise. Library and spa were closed almost all the cruise. Fridges in mostly of cabins were locked, no coffee machine in the room, no glasses for water, nothing. At every meal at the restaurant chairs and tables were moved to the side for disinfectant (my daughter took a video where people in hazmat suits rushed disinfect a contaminated table). Men with air masks all over the ship spraying something in the cabins. They pulled large fogging machines to fill rooms with mist disinfectant. This covered all our belongings. Many passengers claimed they could not stay in their rooms because of the smell. In every port, passengers were not allowed to get in and out of the ship without spraying sanitizer on their hands. The crew was overwhelmed, and we learned many staff were quarantined due to illness. The passengers were also overwhelmed and not happy… Disembarkation: they accumulated people in the restaurant area and halls and kept them there for 2 hours as well. This is typical, however. I think the New York terminal has more problems than any other. I am actually surprised that there is no information about how awful was this particular cruise…. Read Less

After arriving at the port at approximately 10:30 am as directed. We sat and waiting for over 4 hours packed in the terminal with over 4k other people. The ship was quarantined due to a bug effecting over 300 passengers. Once boarding the ship the state rooms were unavailable from 3 hours to well over 5 hours with passengers sitting with their carry on baggage on the floor and where ever they could find a seat. The rooms when they were available lacked towels, no vacuums run for 10 days. Dinning there were no salt or pepper shakers available on the 6th day they were giving out packages in some dinning areas and not in others. You were not allowed to get your own plate, retrieve your own silverware, or even get your own coffee. You stood in lines waiting with the other 4 thousand plus people. Dominica Republic was removed as a stop and replaced with Puerto Rico with no explanation. Several of the crew were running around with breathing mask wiping walls and your door and handles leaving them dripping and wet. With a foul smelling disinfectant while passengers were to tolerate the breathing conditions with nothing. All excursions were cancelled in Puerto Rico due to the late departure from NY it was supposed to be 3pm and we left at 7pm. Many brands of drinks were removed from the so called ultimate drinking package. The communication from the management was tight lipped and unavailable. From their own customer service people, "The home office is aware of the problem and has given us no answer". Find another cruise line. Read Less

We arrived at the cruise port in New York City just after 10:30 AM, People were left standing for hours to check in and get on board. We finally got on board after 3:00 PM. We were told that our rooms were not ready yet and had to wait. around 4:30 they finally said that the staterooms on our deck were ready. We went to our cabin to find that it still was not ready, we had to look for a room steward just to get toilet paper. Our luggage still did not arrive so we waited and waited. At 1:00 AM another passenger told us that we would have to look for our luggage somewhere on our deck. I found our luggage way down the hall, they just left our luggage where ever they could, we had to search for it ourselves. We found out that the cruise before us had a virus on board, so now we were subject to chemicales for the whole trip, they were spraying and wiping the walls, doors, door handles, elevators, rest rooms. What ever was sprayed or wiped was left driping wet. They had people in hazmat suites and masks mixing the chemicales in the halls, all passengers were subject to the chemicals. The staff on the ship were taken from their usual tasks to help with the spraying and wiping, so the passangers were short changed, there were days when our room was not made untill after 5:00 PM. The ship has to many people and was poorly managed, it was very loud and has no place outside of your cabin for peace and quiet. Dining was short changed with not enough help and a menu that had very little changes. The buffet was just ok nothing to write home about where it was often hard to find a seat and then you were sitting on top of one another. When we disembarked from the ship they called our color and had us wait in line outside in the cold untill we got into customs where there was another long line. Getting off the ship took over two hours. Standing in that long line you knew they just wanted every one off the ship for their convenience and without regard for the customers. Read Less

I am a platinum member, but after this cruise I am not going with NCL anymore. They had gastrointestinal virus outbreak on cruise before us, we weren’t informed until we got to the port. 5000 people were standing and waiting for check in to start until 3 pm, rooms were not ready for another hours. People were sitting on the floor and staircases. And it’s only beginning. All cruise was a disaster. NCL upper managers don’t care about their guests. They didn’t have enough crew members to serve guests. Absolutely total mismanagement. But I must say our Stuart did a great job. He was great. Service in specialty restaurants was good, but in complimentary restaurants below average. Entertainment below, below average, Nothing to do on the ship. Such a disappointment. Waist of money and vacation. First time we could not wait to get out of ship. Nothing more to say. Read Less

Ship was 3 1/2 hours late boarding and departing. No explanation was given in the terminal. NCL didn't offer anything while thousands of people just stood around (no seating available). Could have at least had a bottle of water or a snack. Had to sanitize because people were sick on the previous cruise. The ship was dirty when we boarded. Our cabin was filthy with dirt on the floor and a layer of dust on everything. it wasn't cleaned until day 12 of the two week cruise. The cabin was small. We could barely get our bags in the closet. No table in front of the sofa. Small veranda with two non-reclining seats and a 1 sqft table. Small bath. I could barely move in the shower without bouncing off the walls, and I am not big. Several entertainment events were cancelled. Deck activities were not available for the first week. Food was very low end, unless you pay extra for the specialty restaurants. No quiet relaxing place anywhere on the ship. All places were completely disorganized and extremely slow. it took over an hour to get a bagel for breakfast. Crew, while not overly rude, were far from polite. Fitness center never had any towels. Two days the doors were closed with people standing outside waiting for them to open. An officer walked right through without saying a word and never came back to open the doors. Finally we just opened the doors ourselves and went in. They continued to sanitize for the entire cruise. That is good, except the chemicals were very irritating. About 1/2 the passengers were constantly coughing. And since they never cleaned anything, the dirt and dust made it worse. The entertainment was so-so. Two of the comedians were good. For the main show, After Midnight, many people either walked out or wanted to leave. The bands seemed to be competing for the greatest vol. They were so loud they were painful. It was impossible to hold a conversation whenever they were playing, either in the atrium or on the deck. That made it even louder with everyone yelling at each other over the sound of the music. Tobacco road stunk up the entire deck. The smoke odor was so strong we had to leave the game area there. We could even smell smoke on our deck 14 veranda (possibly from someone smoking in their room). Restrooms were never attended and almost constantly dirty. Read Less

I understand how a norovirus can happen aboard a huge ship like this. But, I want to say we were not informed until days later what was happening. This was our 33 cruise and we could see signs of something going on. Paper menus, no salt shakers or silverware on tables. Excessive cleaning. We were “unable” to tender into our second port for so called choppy seas. It was glasslike out there. The consensus was they didn’t want us in port or we had to get some more distance so it was too late to turn back. As the days went on it was worse. We saw two people put into ambulances in two different ports. We stayed in our room. I feel Ncl did not inform us in a timely manner. They told the next sailing they left late because of fuel issues. Blatantly lied to them. Our steward was not allowed to vacuum our room or give us ice. So we missed a port, had to stay in our room, cleaning fumes were so excessive all over. We could get no information. Three doors down there was a medical emergency and there were many officers standing in the hallway. They were so rude when we tried to get into our room. Telling us sarcastically nothing is happening. Mind your own business. I feel it was our business as we were sharing room stewards with that room. All in all, a terrible experience. And in debarkation there was nearly a riot. Screaming, passengers because we were waiting for hours to get off. The process was so terrible. I’ve been on 33 cruises. Never complained. We Generally get a haven suite, we’ve had the owners suite, but on Norwegian it’s not worth it. So this time we didn’t. They should have been honest with us so we could protect ourselves early on. After 10+ cruises with them I don’t think I want to patronize them any more. They offered not even one free drink to anyone. It does not pay to be loyal to them. We are platinum plus members. We got a bottle of the cheapest champagne and literally 4 chocolate covered strawberries when we arrived. Very cheap. That’s the Norwegian experience. There are other better lines out there.
