This was a 9 day cruise, there was no good entertainment, which made the trip extremely boring, the music on the pool wouldn't start till 11am and it was mostly instrumental no good music at all, the bartenders were very rude, there was 1 bartender name Edward he was the only friendly one in the entire ship, we had the beverage package but they had a restriction on many drinks, the restaurant services were so slow we waited on appetizer for almost an hour, they really only include 3 restaurants all the other ones you have to pay extra and the 3 restaurants included serve the same food every night. I have used Norwegian a few times this is my 5th and I am so disappointed I wouldn't use them again is time to start looking at other cruise lines. The only good about this cruise was awesome weather and they were very clean as far as the room service and now they do time how long your towel is left alone on a chair which is good so it wasn't hard to find a spot most of the time. Let me start by saying I love to travel, especially to Caribbean islands. I particularly love vacations filled with nature, adventure and exploring new places. I've traveled quite a bit over the years, so I know that a big part of traveling is keeping things in stride and going with the flow. With this cruise vacation, however, my patience was tested even before getting on the ship. First the long line to drop off luggage, then the REALLY long line to go through security, then the line to check in, and finish that off with a line to get your picture taken and pretend you're having fun while still bundled in winter coats. Once on the boat my main complaints how smokey it is. The design of the ship is just terrible. They put the casino (where they allow smoking) in an open area around a 3-level atrium. And on these 3 levels are most things you'd want to enjoy on the ship--restaurants, comedy club, lounges, shopping, theatre, etc. The smoke is not contained at all, but wafts throughout these 3 floors. Complaint #2: The Garden Cafe. The very first morning of our cruise we went down to breakfast at 10:15 am (an unusually busy time, maybe?) and I just wanted to cry. The place was packed. The three of us waited a long time to get our food, but then walked around and around the place and could not find a place to sit. I was prepared to eat standing up, but then couldn't find any utensils to eat with (I later learned they're kept on the tables). People without any food were saving tables all over--a problem we also experienced with pool chairs, seating in the lounges, the theatre, you name it. This was one crowded ship. Another thing...I was thinking such a big cruise ship would have plenty of variety and I would be able to find enough things to eat. I normally eat a diet of mainly vegetables with a little meat. At breakfast there was not a vegetable to be found, unless you count the tablespoon of spinach in my omelet. It was pretty much a buffet of meat and sugar. On the positive side, the entertainment was really nice. "After Midnight" was absolutely awesome! Wow, what talent. I left wanting to see what else those performers might be able to do. "The Brat Pack" was OK. The staff talent show at the end was cute. The comedians were on board were great--Spencer James and Flip Shultz, as was Ben Nemzer, the magician/comedian. The Adele tribute artist (Chelsea something) was great. One suggestion for Norwegian: quit shining those strobe lights into the eyes of audience members! It happened at every show we saw in the theater. The overall vibe of the ship just wasn't for me. Maybe it was because this cruise spanned over New Year's, but there were so many drunk people everywhere. Surprising, since it seems it would be awfully expensive to get drunk on that ship! Also, I felt nickel-and-dimed. Extra $ for internet service, extra to use a Norwegian app that lets you text others on the ship while out at sea, extra for some of the entertainment and restaurants, $6 for a bottle of water from the bar, and so on. Embarkation went smooth and as expected. Disembarkation was terrible, We paid for transfers to our Hotel and there were NO NCL employees outside of the terminal to assist us. The Brat Pack was stupid and profane and After Midnight left me snoozing in my seat. Service was terrible. We waited 3 days without a bar of soap in our bathroom. This is our second time in the Haven and this cruise lacked priority boarding after excursions. I felt like it was a waste of money. The elevators on the ship were filthy, with food on the floor on more than one occasion. I'm not sure if it was the ship or the crew but I don't feel that the ship was taken care of which is disappointing after the amount of money we spend to have a luxury cruise. We'll be trying the MSC Yacht Club. I'm not sure if I will go on another NCL cruise Haven or not. Read Less

Chose this cruise because it was 12 days and $459 + taxes for total of $600. Left from and returned to Manhattan. Ship holds 4500 passengers. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. Cabin was average. The problem with this size ship is that in exchange for having more people, the venues decrease . Entertainment: The size of the theater is half that of smaller boats with one level only. It cannot accommodate even one quarter of the passengers at one time. Smaller boats have bigger theaters. As a result, you MUST reserve time and day for any and all entertainment on board. In addition there were only two musical production shows for an entire 12 day cruise which were repeated over and over so everyone could see it. There was one so so magician for two of the same shows. And they put a comedy act in the main theater to fill in. The comedy acts were usually in the smaller lounge and they were repeated numerous times with the same material. And as stated before, you needed reservations or you had to wait on line to get in if someone did not show up. There were two supper club shows which they charged extra for or you could not go in. And the supper club show held only a small number of passengers. Dining venues: There are three free dining areas. Manhattan, Savor and Taste. Manhattan is the larger of the three and has music for an hour and only open for dinner. The other two are smaller and no music. Service at all three was terrible for all meals, breakfast , lunch and dinner. Waiters were not experienced, mixed up orders, went back and forth bringing only one item at a time. They worked harder not smarter. Very slow service. Food was mediocre. Of course for more money, they had many more dining venues which charged more money and additional service charges when you have already paid for your meals. It seems that all in all the bigger boats provide room for more people, less service, less entertainment and less venues for entertainment. Fewer pools, smaller theater.smaller gym . But for more money you can now get better food, entertainment, drink packages, can get excursions etc. in addition to casino, and a spa which they charge more money to get in with heated chairs and sauna, steam room etc. it seems to me the cruise industry will put themselves out of business soon charging for everything which should be included in the fare.. They certainly have lost me as a cruise customer on these larger ships. Read Less

This was our third cruise with Norwegian, and it was our least favourite. Had it been our first Norwegian cruise, we wouldn't sail with them again. The ship was too crowded. If they're going to build bigger ships with more staterooms, then they should make bigger restaurants - and a bigger Atrium. During the "at sea" days we lined up for O'Sheehans, & the other general restaurants. There was never a seat in The Atrium, but that was okay because the entertainment was geared towards kids and 70 yr olds. If you liked balloon animals, trivia, and cheesy game show style entertainment, this was for you. If you liked someone banging a tambourine all through breakfast reminding you to wash your hands-- this cruise was for you. The other ships on Norwegian we sailed on had a different show in the theatre each nite- not this one. Some of the shows we had to pay extra $$ to attend. The comedians were hilarious (Flip Shultz!!). The excursions were too short. They'd drop you off at the beach around 1030- and return you at 1pm. The pools were too crowded, and the layout of the sun deck chairs wasn't great- you often stared at people sitting parallel to the glass barriers blocking the ocean view, or had a steady stream of ppl walking past you on the walking track. You had to pay an extra $15. to sit in Jimmy Buffet's restaurant, and each night 5 o'clock somewhere sat mostly empty. We were constantly bombarded with art auctions, jewellery sales, etc. Read Less

I chose the Escape because of the Departure port and dates. It is not the best ship some of the staff are not very friendly the spa was overpriced usually you can book before you get on the ship and they give you the online price, not this cruise, I got to the port and The gentleman said no discount you either book it with him for the full price or I could do it on the Shuo and wait in line and waste time he said the reason was the spa was pretty much sold out Turns out it was not and was very crowded they actually were selling spa packages mid cruise they did not have enough heated chairs you had to go early in the morning it was not very relaxing more frustrating and felt like I wasted 300 for nothing could have spent that money on the islands doing day passes at the resorts. On the bigger ships, you are just a number a cruise ship that holds over 4,000 people has a pool with a capacity of under 100 the layout is horrible the decor is terrible. Second time on this ship the only reason is it is convenient but if another cruise line was leaving out of the same port and around the same dates I would probably choose them over the escape. May seem cheap but in the long run, it turns out to be the same if not more then traveling another line. Norwegian has to allot of hidden fees that they don’t tell you up front. The casino staff was not very friendly never saw the casino host the payouts were horrible and layout was not good they have machines next to one of the clubs where the music is blasting and people are sitting at machines not playing but just watching people dance. We chose this cruise at the last minute. We were given a guarantee room. I was nervous about this This ship was only 75% full CABIN We ended up in room 12647, an inside, mid ship room. When we first saw the room we were in shock. It was no bigger than a closet. The bathroom was fine. The cabin had little storage place. After the first shock, we got used to it. We are never in the room. It was a perfect location. Close to both elevators and very quiet since are only 10 cabins in the hallway. Our room steward was just ok. He never took trash out. No soap for days FOOD We had been on this ship many times. The food has gone downhill. We ate at the Japanese restaurant. It was wonderful. Great food, great service, great fun. LaBistro was a huge disappointment. The escargot was horrible. French onion soup was very good. Carney’s was very good. Oysters Rockefeller was great. The steaks were fatty and tough. Bayamo was the biggest disappointment. The lobster was dry. We had the dining package. Our waitress told us we could get one appetizer, one main dish, and one dessert. We asked if we could get an extra salad also, as we always had in the past. We were told “no”. But the tables on either side of us were able to order three appetizers. The people at the other table told us they also had the dining package. We asked the waitress why they could get extras and we could not. She offered us a salad as we were eating dessert. The main dining room were pretty good. PORTS We arrived at Port Canaveral very late due to a medical emergency. It was too late to to get off. The ship canceled Great Stirrup Cay. No reason was given. Jamaica was terrible. I went for a walk. Locals kept offering me drugs. I had a guy approach me as I sat at a restaurant. Be very careful. Grand Cayman was very nice. Easy walk off. Lots of stores. Harvest Cay was my favorite. This is a private island. The beach is wonderful. The pool is incredible. Lots of lounge chairs. Lots of shaded areas. The stores were nice (no straw market). The excursions the best. Wake up early.......this port in relaxing, beautiful, and the best. Costa Maya was also great. The port is beautiful. A nice pool, stores, and music. I went to the the Mayan ruins. It was a great experience. Our guide was informative. Cozumel was okay. Easy walk off. Lots of store for souvenirs. The cheapest liquor prices. SHIP Lots to do on this ship. Water slides-Zipline-rope course-mini golf-trivia-hot tubs. There was was something to do. ENTERTAINMENT This was lacking on this ship. We did not like the Bratpack. It was confusing. Lots of folks walked out. After Midnight was good but the same type of dancing and songs. It seemed to go on forever. I love the supper club. We eat dinner while seeing a show. The golden Octoves were fabulous. The Brat Pack supper dinner was horrible. Lots of game shows. I enjoyed them. Progressive trivia was fun. The howl at the moon was not one of the best. Comedy shows were okay...not great, just okay. We found getting on and off the ship was very easy. The port employees were very friendly. This was our 5th or 6th time on this ship. Our 90th NCL cruise. We had a good time, but NCL is cutting more and more from it’s loyalty program. We keep noticing the cutbacks is every department. I am not sure what they are trying to achieve. They are becoming a low budget line. Read Less

This was our 13 cruise with NCL and maybe our last. Embarkation was handled poorly, treated like cattle and we're platinum members. We routinely pay extra for entry to the Vibe on other NCL ships. The Escape has the nerve to charge $180 when the identical layout is available for free on the other side. They also removed seating and replaced it with a fog machine (??). So you are basically paying for a lounge chair towel and a piece of fruit. The ship has noticeably less seating and to add insult to injury, they provide uncomfortable folding chairs in the atrium. The buffet was disappointing with less variety. The Savor and Taste dining room lunch menu remained the same for 14 days. The Margaritaville concept is an empty waste of space. No one wants to contribute towards Jim Buffet's coffers for the privilege of his hamburger. NCL ought to rethink this contract. Several venues had a "Private Events" sign but was not communicated on the daily Newsletter. As a frequent cruiser with NCL, I was not invited to any. Evidently hand sanitizing is no longer a priority either. I had no issues with the staff. They were professional and friendly throughout. You would think that there is a large enough customer base out of NYC, NCL management would pay more attention to providing a pleasurable experience, maybe they just don't care. Read Less

The ship is large but with 5200 passengers and 1700 crew it wasn't large enough. Nearly every area of the ship was crowded with the elevators being packed full a considerable amount of the time. Imagine trying to get from deck 6 to 16 as an example and having to wait for multiple elevators to go by before one had space, roughly three to four time a day. It got really old really quick. Service was inconsistent with us receiving outstanding service at one restaurant and then absolutely poor service at another. Medium rare was delivered well done, incorrect drink orders, no bread, no butter, asked multiple times for lemon and things of that nature. Normally not a big deal, but it was happening nearly every day at different meals and restaurants. For example, breakfast would be fantastic with suburb service then dinner would be filled with all sorts of service errors and vice versa the next day. Totally inconsistent the entire cruise. ULTIMATE drink package was totally and completely insane in the way it works. Get this, an Irish coffee for $9.95 was included but not a $1.95 espresso or a bottle of water. You can order any alcoholic drink you wanted under $15 but not water, espresso or herbal tea? Espresso with Bailey's yes! Espresso with no alcohol, no! Budweiser (or any beer) yes! Pellegrino no! Totally idiotic and mind numbing. Smoking is supposedly only allowed in designated areas but trust me, it reeks of smoke all over that ship. The 7th deck is where the casino is located and that entire floor is completely engulfed in smoke. Overall it just wasn't relaxing or enjoyable consistently throughout the cruise. You can expect little annoyances to happen but when they happen frequently it's kid of like stubbing your toe 12 times in 12 different places. Eventually you just want to put shoes back on when technically you're on the cruise to relax and take your shoes off. Read Less

This was our 4th Norwegian cruise. I love Norwegian, but hated the Escape. Too Big, Too Loud, Too many people. Do not like the atrium. Everything happens in the atrium. Why? Always crowed, people milling around even if they were not there for what ever was going on. Cooking demo, could not hear because they was a loud and noisy crowd upstairs at O'shannahans. HAD TO WALK THROUGH THE CASINO, WITH MY GRANDKIDS TO GET TO THE MIDDLE OF THE BOAT!!! You could smell cigarette smoke every where, it was disgusting. As usual had wonderful meals at the specialty restaurants, however was a little disappointed in Morderno, table of six, service was very slow. Had problems with the elevators. My husband uses a scooter, waited 10 to 35 minutes to get elevators that had room so he could drive on. I no not understand why Norwegian does not have dedicated card access handicap elevators. Took my parents on this cruise for their 50th anniversary. There were 7 of us in total ranging in age from 21-78. THE GOOD: Food was very good, and we liked Taste/Savor. Avoid the Manhattan restaurant unless you like very loud live music throughout your entire dinner. My Mother had to leave because she couldn't take it (though she's 77, it bothered all of us too). The Choir of Man show was really fun. The drink package, for $250 was well worth it - Bombay, Kettle One, Tito's are included. The private island was nice. Snorke/Sail in the Bahamas was nice as well. THE BAD: I found the staff to be cold and unfriendly. The 80's show (Brat Pack) was just awful. A lot of people walked out. It was also difficult to get into most of the shows that wouldn't accept reservations beforehand. There are simply too many people for too few seats and shows. Be prepared to take the stairs a lot - elevators were usually packed. Again, too many people. THE UGLY: The biggest problem with the cruise were the uninspired and boring activities. Trivia three times a day., and it was always packed. And the big winners won a thing to keep your drink cold. Is it called a couzy? Seriously, Napkin Folding was on the agenda. Also, Fruit Carving. $25 to play Deal or No Deal - not to be the contestant, just to play along! You get the idea. Yup. Kill me. One last thing - and this is so strange - the ship itself didn't rock up and down slowly, but it SHOOK from side to side. Like, really shook. It was bizarre. I had a really hard time sleeping. In short, I was simply bored. Read Less

It’s like we have to move our schedule around the nursery time. 3- Slow elevators and it stops at every floor regardless if someone push the bottom or not. 4- Slow and sometime no so friendly service at the restaurant. The reservation system is bad too. You can only reserve when the restaurant is closed, once it’s open, it’s a first come first serve base. 5- smoking is allowed in the casino! The smell is crazy even in the area close to the casino!!! They should have a closed room just for the smokers! 6- you need to reserve in advance for parasol or clamshell for their private island. You can’t rent them on the spot. Terrible experience! Overall, not impressed! Do not recommend!!! Read Less

Spent Thursday in Bermuda & Friday afternoon, we left a little late on Friday sailed full speed through a terrible storm all day Saturday people were sick everywhere, outside decks were all closed it was so bad. The smoking situation was absolutely ridiculous. On Saturday you could smoke in casino or small box room near cigar bar it was disgusting, I understand people find it a disgusting habit, but everyone has there rights & addictions. The food was very boring at all places. My friend has gluten allergies & it was a pain for her to get the food she wanted due to language barriers, she asked an Asian girl for a toasted English muffin & got 2 pcs of gluten free toast & 2 blueberry muffins. Not great for 1st time cruiser kind of turned me off. We also didn’t find the bartenders to be very friendly inside except for bar across from casino. I chose this cruise because it was the week I was able to get off from work and out of NYC. I did one cruise with Royal Caribbean out of Bayonne and loved it. Norwegian cannot compare to Royal Caribbean. We were disappointed with the Escape. It started with long check in lines and once we got to the buffet no seats! We walked around with plates of food and no where to sit! Way too many people to accommodate and some very rude. Staff in the buffet waiting tables not very helpful. We went up to get most of our drinks because by time someone came around it was too late. Dinning room staff and food was good but no lobster night or farewell dinner. The dinning room couldn’t compare to Royal Caribbean’s liberty of the seas. The ports were ok with Port Canaveral being a waste of time. The private island great stir up cay took way too long waiting for tender boats to take you to the island and was disorganized and beach and water too crowded. Some of the staff serving drinks ignored us and we had to go to another service station to get drinks. Bahamas was nice but 8-5:30 just left you wishing for more. I missed tropical music on the pool deck it started early in the morning and was finished early and I would miss it and was never played long enough to catch. No sail away parties. Cruise director and a some of the staff was not personable and a lack of connection. Getting off the ship again long lines and we almost missed our bus because it took so much longer then we can anticipate. My family and I (husband and 12 year old son) went on this ship to Bermuda out of NY. The NY cruise terminal was organized and an easy process. The ship looks very nice, our balcony room was nice, and the house keeping staff kept our room clean twice a day. Getting off and on the ship was easy enough in Bermuda and the destination was wonderful. The Zumba workout was great. I had a Swedish message with felt amazing but then after it was over they tried to sell me products, had me speak to the acupuncture doctor, and wanted me to have my foot scan done. All I wanted was a massage and to relax. We enjoyed the comendy/magician the most out of all entertainment on the ship. I will say that is about all I can say positive. My family has cruised before and I couldn't help but notice some big negatives about this cruise in comparison to others. First the food was not great and a big disappointment. I did not pay extra for dining so this is just about the food at the buffets and main dining rooms. Margaritaville is now a restaurant you have to pay for. On the breakaway it was free dining. The ship felt disorganized. Many of the staff members seemed to be at a lose when I asked questions. I was lost at times on when things took place and with all the extra charges on things I couldn't really keep up with what was included and what was an up charge until I tried to reserve a spot at the shows. With all the confusion on the I missed the Brat Pack show and was pretty bummed about it. I heard positive feedback on the ship from others but wouldn't know myself. My family loves the shows so this was a real let down that we missed a show that they were charging us extra for. By the time I realized we hadn't seem it we were 4 days into the cruise and the show was no longer playing. After Midnight was a talented group of people but no beginning to end story line to the show. The show was nice but not the type of show I would rave about. Cleaning service was the best. Dinner service was poor most nights, had to ask for drink refills numerous times and one night we were at dinner for about 2 hours. We left without dessert because it was such a slow service. Also the dinner with live entertainment is very loud and we couldn't talk to one another. Bermuda destination is amazing. Getting on and off ship was easy. I enjoyed that. Finally if you have children- please note after 11 pm there is nothing to do with your child. All venues close for kids at 11 pm. Some of you may think that is fine but our son is 12 years old and we tend to stay up a little later on vacation. It would have been nice to be able to do things with him until at least midnight (comparing this to other ships and cruise lines we have been on). The main pool is adults only. There is no inside pool area. The watersides were nice though. The rope course had a lot of areas closed due to high winds (most days). Basketball and soccer is outside. All bball and soccer tournaments were 13-17 or 18+. The kids zone went up to 12 and then there was the teen zone that started at 13 so my son felt too old to be in the younger one and wasn't old enough for the teen zone. So he didn't participate in that at all. Overall this was not my favorite ship. I will definitely be cruising with another cruise line moving forward. We had a much better experience on another line and so I am a fan elsewhere. I really wanted to give an honest review for others who value these reviews and who are thinking of cruising on this line. I will say this is just my opinion and our experience. Read Less

It is a rough way to start/end a vacation!!!!! 2. The staff is amazing. It's hard to imagine how they train that many people to be nice, courteous, helpful -- they do an amazing job! 3. The BOAT REAKS OF CIGARETTE SMOKE. Seriously -- the smoking kept me out of the main ship areas. See, one of the smoking areas is in the casino which is one floor of the 5 floor atrium so the ENTIRE atrium smells. My kids pulled their shirts up over their noses to minimize the smell. IT WAS BAD. Ironically the other smoking area is on an outside deck -- adjacent to the jogging path. 4. Overall, the food was good! Lots of choices and good quality across the board. Our favorite was Moderno -- the brazilian steak house. It was well done and the salad bar was quite wonderful. 5. There is entertainment. It was fine. The best stuff we saw was the comedians and Matt Marcy magic. 6. If you have kids -- DO NOT MISS THE ESCAPE THE BIG TOP!!!!! It was a fun 1 hour activity! 7. I loved the cruise director and his team -- they made all their activities super fun. 8. Be prepared to walk stairs....a lot! The elevators CAN NOT handle the volume of people on this ship. Chose this cruise to go to Canada. What happened to all the Priority Services???? The problems began with embarkation. Twice sent to the wrong line.. This was a casino sponsored trip which is suppose to get priority. I also have platinum status. I do not think the staff really looked at my ticket. They just shuffled me along. Did too much stand up waiting to get on this ship. There was no priority customer service - was told there is only one line. No priority embarkation when carrying suitcases and leaving ship early. It is a good thing I went down early. Have booked 5 cruises for next year. NONE ON NORWEGIAN. Was in a balcony room, 11852 ,with very little room between the bed and the 1 small closet. Had to step around the bed to get to the balcony side of the room. If I had paid the full price for this room over $3000. I would have been even more angry. The food was good and the steward for my room, I believe his name was Eugene, helped me keep it in great shape. The best thing about this ship was a show called After Midnight., Read Less

I’ve been on most of the major cruise lines on at least 12 or 15 cruises. This cruise ranks at the bottom of the list. And no one seems to care! I’ve been on at least 4 inaugural cruises with Holland America. I’ve been on numerous Carnival cruises. I’ve cruised on small ships and medium ships as well as large ships. The best part of the cruise was the show in the Supper Club - The Choir of Man. It was outstanding. But even that became an issue because I wasn’t allowed to see it a second time (but I found a way). The food was mediocre at best. Not until the last 2 nights did I get a piece of meat that was tender! I have lost a considerable amount of weight and my swim suits no longer fit. And I live in Oregon - hard to find swim suits in September in Oregon. No problem, I thought! We’re going to a tropical port so they’ll have them on the ship in the shops. WRONG! Not suit one! I’ve never been on a ship that didn’t have free internet access in an Internet cafe (or similar). They wanted $180 for one week access - outrageous! And there is much more. But suffice it to say that I will never cruise with Norwegian again. And I met many - and I mean MANY - who expressed the same sentiment! Norwegian - you have a problem! Read Less

Took this cruise with relatives visiting from abroad. Stayed in 2 bdrm haven suite. Everything with haven was good except the disembarking upon return which needed some direction from crew. The food & service in the haven was much better than the rest of the ship including the specialty restaurants, we went to 4, were all not very good. Service in all other places out of haven was below average. I recall at least a handful of instances that staff was outright rude instead if accommodating. Shows were also not good, so bad that many people left. I've been on princess, royal carribean, and Holland America cruises. Beyond the haven, this felt inferior in every way. I'm hoping the other lines offer something like haven because I would definitely pay the extra. Just would like other better dining options, a couple of good shows and staff in the general area to be not rude!!! Read Less

Booked through a casino corporation for our third NCL cruise and it appears the cruise line is going downhill consistently. In fact the casino is the only facility/attraction/entertainment on board we can recommend. The entertainment is tedious, repetitious, and well below reasonable standards. Sing, dance, sing, dance,; rinse and repeat. In the past other ships we have been on have had decent bands throughout the ship during both the evening and night hours, the NCL Escape had as far as we could tell, two bands and one singer who sang in spanish to recorded music and all three were marginal. Are there was also a DJ in the Skyliners bar who played nothing but rap music at ear splitting volume attracting a certain clientele and behavior we were uncomfortable with. We paid an additional fee to eat six nights in specialty restaurants but honestly we can only say one of those meals was what we would call good the rest were simply average and the one night we spent in the complementary restaurant was simply terrible both in terms of the food and the service. We were unable to visit one port because the winds were too high for the tenders and were forced to spend another boring day at sea. We understand you can’t control the wind but certainly you can be prepared to offer additional on board activities and make sure that people know about those activities; apparently NCL does not agree because that was a completely wasted day. How hard is it to prepare for an almost certain eventuality like a closed port? This is a huge company with a large number of chips, they should have done a better job and been better prepared. The staff was generally friendly but the language differences were almost insurmountable in many cases, especially with those in guest service positions which is baffling. Shore excursions were pretty average in both selection and choice. Next time we'll look beyond NCL and urge you to as well. Read Less

Try booking a cruise to celebrate a special occasion, only to find out 3 days prior to sailing that you aren’t going there after all, and you have no recourse- you cannot re-schedule, you cannot cancel and get credit to rebook; you just need to suck it up and make the best of it. Safety issues were cited....... I get it. So you put on your big girl panties and deal. First you sail to a port that is nothing more than.... a port. Nothing within walking distance, not enough time to really do something fun, no souvenirs to shop for. They you go to a captive island owned by the cruise line, and are a captive audience. Finally, you will be going to the only legitimate port of call. BUT, with less than 12hours, we find out it is being cancelled. WHY??? We were never given the courtesy of an explanation. No recourse, no apology, no consideration. The Escape has too many passengers for their limited venues- can;t get into the piano bar, can’t see the comedy team, can even find 2 chairs together on deck. The pools post an occupancy of 39....... while hundreds circled the area. I suggest if an offer is too good to be true, turn around and run! A cruise to Newark would have been more fun than this cruise. Read Less

Sailed from New York as part of my birthday celebration spent 40 minutes in embarkation having passports checked by 3 different people no obvious signs of systematic security checks other than to be written on a list. First impressions of the balcony stateroom were very good and it is fair to say we slept very well. There was a large stain on our stateroom carpet but otherwise it was clean and well presented, bathroom bigger than average and good shower. Travelled with family so stayed in cabins next to each other. The access to onboard accounts on the TV was user friendly. Entertainment was two shows only other shows were cleverly linked to private dining packages so were extra cost we chose NCL because it was fully inclusive dining, drinks package and tips... Big mistake speciality coffees included were met with resistance and if you ordered a Starbucks you paid for the coffee and a 20%surcharge made it extortionate.. poor menu selection meant the three restaurants savour taste and Manhattan all served identical food and osheehans never changed at all. As someone with a dairy intolerance I expect to have a limited diet needless to say they met my expectations fully there was no effort to provide anything alternative there was a complete lack of understanding what was in dishes. Please don’t go if you have a nut allergy several dishes were not identified as having nuts in !! The first day I was impressed and a little embarrassed when they made a big fuss about putting my details on my room number and not one person acknowledged that in the entire cruise I was even sent chocolate strawberries as an apology for forgetting my order one night!! The chaos in all the restaurants was unbelievable each meal disappointed. Get used to cold meals! I didn’t complain about that .. I was just grateful to eat.. We were a table of four the first evening they served starters for all of us then noticed that the mains for Two weren’t ordered and even said to our husbands oh are you two not eating it was hilarious watching there faces. We ordered starters and mains ; mains arrived before starters followed by the drinks ordered 15 minutes before the food. We had meals bought to us twice - it must cost them a fortune.. Each meal there was a mistake and I am not exaggerating. I know someone else mentioned about smoking you walk through the casino to get to restaurants and it stinks of smoke as non smokers it is offensive.. But not as offensive as someone defaecating outside our stateroom we literally had no customer feedback other than to be told to go to our room ....!! Our trip of a lifetime was the whale watching the tender was booked no easy feat as no one could tell you what time each tender left but best to aim for about 9am slot 3 which was called at 8am as we bolted some breakfast.. on shore we sauntered around shops awaiting our adventure it was a pleasantly warm day as we headed back to the harbour we bumped into some fellow whale watchers who told us it was called off - had t we had a call ?? When we got back later that day we had a message left at 9.36am with no explanation other than to say the trip was cancelled. As you can imagine this trip will be memorable for all the wrong reasons.. please don’t think that all inclusive is exactly that on NCL.. it’s not there are more charging restaurants than inclusive, not all drinks are included, there are gratuities on top of charging agendas and even the entertainment is not fully inclusive be warned you may be better off going for the obvious surcharges rather than use NCL and incurring the hidden ones.. I am so disappointing in NCL! My husband and I have gone to Bermuda on an almost yearly basis, every September via cruising. Most all of the time we've sailed with NCL. The past few cruises, we've noticed some differences NCL- less attention to detail, staff not as caring, etc- but not enough to deter us from sailing with NCL. Until our 9/918 cruise. Our cruise, quite understandably, was rerouted to Florida because of Hurricane Florence. This is the chance we take when cruising in September. But my issues are: * I was never informed about the itinerary change until I was at port to embark. We were simply handed a form letter with no other explanation. * We were told we were going to Florida, NCL's own Bahamian island and then to Nassau. We only made it to Florida, stayed one day and the rest of the cruise was a "cruise to nowhere". The captain later informed us that we never had any plans of going to Nassau, as there was not room for our ship to dock. Why lie? * I later found out that this cruise was advertised a few days prior as a Bahama/Florida trip and was offered at a lot less than what we paid! If they knew days ahead, why was I never informed? * Port charges that were paid out, were never reimbursed. We never made it to Nassau, but still paid these charges. * Everyone on the ship was inform that separate complaints needed to be lodged for, yet NCL issued one standard form letter to all its passenger, never directly addressing the issues that were brought to their attention. * Royal Caribbean, and Carnival's cruises to Bermuda and both gave a substantial refund to their customers, along with a detailed explanation and apology for the inconvenience. Again, I totally understand the need to reroute us- safety comes first. However, NCL profited from this rerouting (only went to their island, took and kept our port charges, cruise to Bermuda is more costly then the one we took) and has no intention of addressing even its most loyal customers' dissatisfaction. I've cruised with NCL for over 16 years but will be do so no more. Horrible, horrible customer relations- this having nothing to do with the staff, just the adminstration of the company. Read Less

We chose NCL because of the Freestyle theme and its service to Bermuda. First the Good: Excellent Speciality Restaurants Boat Activities - ZipLine, Water slides & Fitness Entertainment- Shows & Music (dueling pianos) The Ugly: Pool-side music/entertainment (very short duration / repetitive), O ‘Sheehan’s Bar (bartenders hid in far corner to make bar seems closed to customers), Dining room “The Manhattan” music (Band seems lost after playing a song- took significant time trying to figure out what the next song would be to perform & breaks were longer than playing time) and ship’s public announcement (Captains critical messages were not audible in many parts of the ship (sun deck). Management’s decision on multiple (2x) changes due to Hurricane Florence to ports of call was highly disappointing as it clearly showed they lacked a well thought out plan. I am convinced the ship’s strategy was only concerned with ensuring the ships return date but gave little concern for maximizing their customers value with an experience worth the cost paid (I believe compensation should have been offered). This is very critical failure on NCL’s part as this is not the first time I have been disappointed with managements inability to operate efficiently (i.e. my last trip w NCL-The Pride of America- Staff were quitting in mass quantities leaving the ship dirty and with service levels below what was paid/ yet no compensation was offered). Let me start by saying, I am not one of those people that feel they should get their money back because their itenerary has changed. I DO however feel we should get compensated in some way, to make up for the fact our whole week has changed. Norwegian truly dropped the ball with our trip last week. We were supposed to have 3 beautiful days in sunny Bermuda. Well, of course because of the hurricane we got rerouted. Which is okay, but instead of having 3 days of ports, Nassau was completely cancelled and we ended up only having 2 days, one of which being Great Srirrup Cay, their private island that does not cost them anything. Bermuda is much more expensive than a Bahama & Florida itenary and I felt the cruise company did not make any effort to make us happier at all. A lot of people were upset we didn’t go North to at least keep 3 days of ports, other cruise lines went to Canada & New England. They did not want to make up for this, and when I called telling them my bad experiences they were very indifferent, and when I asked for credit towards a future cruise they told me they could not do anything. Most of the staff were nice, our room attendant was very nice, but some were very rude. Someone took my towel from the deck, and I was basically told by the towel attendant that it was not his problem. The food in the buffet was bad, in my opinion. The food in the dining rooms was good, but same menues every day for lunch. I felt the activities were fun, but my family felt they were on top of each other too much, and not scheduled good enough. The game shows me and my husband loved watching, but they were put on in the atrium which was way too small and not nearly enough seating. I was also disappointed because there was not really a club for adults, just for teens. And the boat was wayyyyyyy too crowded. The slides and the ropes course was a hit however. In my opinion Norwegian was way to frugal, I felt very ripped off, and I will not cruise with them or recommend them to other again. Read Less
