Embarcation and debarcation total disasters. Novo virus on previous cruise so ship had to be thoroughly cleaned--I totally understand but not enough seats in special needs area. New York cruise terminal is a total disaster!!! It cannot handle a ship with over 4,000 passengers comfortably. Total lack of communication by Norwegian on debarcation--never announced that there were two exits areas from ship--keep your eyes and ears open so that you can make your way. Had a Studio room--felt like I was on a spaceship in that room--so much white. No place to read during the day in a quiet area like on the Gem. Atrium is too close to Guest services, shore excursion desks and all that other junk. Hallways are way too narrow--walk sideways if you're going by a housekeeper's cart. Food in buffet is acceptable but not great--on sea days there were so many people walking around to see what was avaiable I felt like I was in a NYC subway station. Theater is poorly designed--felt like I was in my 1958 neighborhood theater--and ugly--only 2 aisles, need 4 aisles--no one wants to sit by the wall so people always climbing over people. Whole ship is a design diaster. Not enough seats in Atrium to listen to music in the evening--shoud have a different show in the theater every night--not 3 for a 14-night cruise. Pools are small and no Solarium like on Royal Caribbean.. Same Jimmy Buffet tape at 12 noon sharp every day in the pool area. Same 3 movies constantly. Also, annuncements all the time to come pick up your "free" charm bracelet and then in next second "buy 3 charms for only $10,00."--please I did not just fall off the turnip truck! Came home with broncitis because of all the dry bad air on this ship. Hate thr Escape. Read Less

The majority of the cruise there were announcements three to four times a day stating CDC requirements required them to make the announcement that a number of crew and or guest are experiencing gastrointestinal problem and you should wash your hands often. They removed all silverware and condiments from the buffet, handed you plates and silverware and served you the food. In the restaurants you were handed paper menus and they were constantly washing handrails, elevators and disinfected your key card every time you got a drink from the bar. As for entertainment, they played old movies (like Ocean 8) in the Atrium and kept recycling about 5 movies. The disembarkement process was terrible, the announced that everyone needed to be off by 9 AM however they did not start calling checked bag colors until 9. We have cruised NCL a number of times and would say this was the worse. All we wanted to do was get off the ship. Read Less

We were so excited to take this cruise- “escape” the NYC cold for 2 weeks. Checking in was quick and easy. The ship is HUGE- too big. So many people, so little room. The Atrium is too small for such a large ship. Pools were surprisingly small, as well. Itinerary was okay- nothing special. Stateroom was fine (except for the constant vibration), as was the balcony- when other passengers weren’t smoking... The entertainment was pretty lame, except for After Midnight, which was quite well done. The food was also a disappointment. Same food in the dining rooms and buffet. LOVED Le Bistro. Cagney’s and La Cucina were also pretty good- except for the service- S-L-O-W! Speaking of bad service- customer service on this ship was mediocre, at best. From guest services to hostesses at restaurants- almost felt like an “I don’t care” attitude. The rudeness of a lot of the passengers was mind-boggling. Not just to the staff, but to other passengers. I live in NYC, so I’m used to rudeness, but I’ve never seen so much pushing and shoving and bad behavior. It also feels like Norwegian is a nickel and dime organization. Then came the Norovirus... I can’t believe that people don’t know how to wash and sanitize their hands (washy-washy)! Next cruise will be on a smaller ship- probably not Norwegian... By the way, the best person we encountered on our trip was our room steward, Swapnil- so conscientious and nice. Read Less

This is a different type of review for me. I will try to let people know what to expect if your cruise has the Norovirus. Our second port was canceled. We were told it was too rough to tender. The seas were very calm with no winds. Day five the salt and pepper shakers disappeared (first sign of Norovirus). At the first signs of the virus, they remove all ketchup, mustard, and shakers from the tables. Day six, we were not allowed to touch anything on the buffet. They handed us plates and silverware. We had to be served all the food. This caused everything to take a long time. Day seven, ...we were not allowed to eat without washing our hands before entering the cafe. No more menus. All paper menus with very small print There were crew members washing railings, buttons etc everywhere. They also started a mandatory announcement from the CDC several times a day. The spa pool and hot tubs were closed. Day eight. The crew started washing every wall, elevator, and surface. The walls were dripping with sanitizer water. You could not touch anything. Every surface was dripping. At every meal, chairs and tables were moved to the side for disinfectant. When dry, they waved them back Day nine. The spa closedown On deck five, men with air masks and complete cover ups appeared. They were steam cleaning several cabins. Casino started washing the cards. Day ten. Several crew members were moved onto our floor The rest of the cruise was the same....no touching, no menus, dripping walls, CDC announcements every day. I tried to write this review to give you an idea of what to expect on an outbreak cruise. The crew was overwhelmed. The passengers were also overwhelmed. Read Less

Our cruise left a lot to be desired. We are Platinum members of NCL and this cruise was not great. Our stop to Stirrup Cay was cancelled due to winds. We have heard that it is most often cancelled for this reason. Feeling it was a bogus excuse and nothing offered to appease the guests. Bait and switch??? We were not told about the sicknesses on the ship until we were asking why there were no dishes and utensils available to us and tables were not being cleaned. The staff avoided the truth for two days. Then an announcement by the captain came the next morning about an outbreak of gastrointestinal problems affecting staff and passengers and it halted the ability of serving ourselves when only staff could serve us. This meant getting on line for everything. Plates, silverware, food, water, coffee and waiting for tables to be sanitized by staff. Of course it was for the benefit of the passengers but got old just days into a 14 day cruise. Tours did not leave on time. In Orlando, our bus was delayed due to a passenger on a scooter needed to board in an area large enough for only a wheelchair and we were delayed for the incompetence of trying to get a square peg in a round hole! Paying to see shows and having to make reservations for the theater shows was an insult. The debarkation was awful. The ship had to be steamed/fogged due to the norovirus so we had to get off early and stand around for hours so they could be ready for the next cruise. My husband and I became sick that first night home and for eight days with a URI from the recirculated air on the ship full of bacteria and germs. Who knows what the norovirus residual was in the air system. Certainly not enough to keep us healthy. This is a newer ship. So disappointed in NCL. Will think about this awful experience when booking again. Not even a follow up of apology or credit on next cruise. Are we a valued customer? Guess not. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the ports, and it was a very reasonable price. The old adage "You get what you pay for" was, in this case, very true. We got an e-mail from Norwegian to please arrive to board between 12:30 and 1:00 PM. We got to the pier at 12:25 and had to line up outside the terminal for 45 minutes just to check our luggage. We then had a one hour line inside the terminal to check in. There was a separate line for the Haven people who were checked in the moment they came inside. Once we finally got to the desk we were told that our medical form had been filled out in red ink (the only pen the girl behind me had to lend ) had to be in blue. When we were finally cleared to board we got to the door that would lead to the elevators but we were turned away from that door -- it was reserved for the Haven people. We finally got to our floor but it was closed our room wasn't quite ready. Even though they had sent us that e-mail to please report two hours before. The Escape is very crowded. The passage ways are very narrow, it's hard for two people to pass we were constantly ducking in to doorways to let others go by or they did that for us. If the stewards carts' were in the hallways we had to squeeze by sideways. We went to the Atrium several times but were never able to get a seat, even with the extra seating on the floor above. Everything in the Atrium was too loud you could hear the games or the music all the way down the ship. We had a great balcony cabin 12-132 and a terrific room steward, Ronaldo. Debarkation was worse than the embarkation. We chose the last departure time and expected a more relaxed exit. We were due to leave at 9:00 but they were very late. Were weren't called to line up until 10:00. We went to the 7th floor and waited an hour to get off the ship. We then waited outside in the rain until for twenty minutes before entering the terminal collecting our bags and heading out. This cruise had several problems that were not the fault of Norwegian. Noro Virus hit our ship hard taking a toll on a number of crew members as well as passengers, but NCL didn't handle it very well. There was nothing anyone could do about the undertow that blocked us from the Bahamas. The government shut down may have contributed to the slow debarkation. There were only five people at the passport checking stations but adjustments could have been made rather than lining up all those people to stand around waiting to leave. The dining room was very slow, particularly on the last 5 or 6 days. I don't want to criticize the staff they really tried their best. It seemed like NCL was requiring them to do double and triple duty. The staff had to make up for the sick members of their teams and did the work of maintenance workers sanitizing tables and chairs after passengers finished eating. Read Less

We had never tried a cruise before, and decided to try NCL Haven as an alternative to other luxury vacations; we have recently visited other five star resorts (most notably, a Four Seasons in Hawaii and a Constance resort at Maldives) and now we decided to give a chance for a cruise. We had a pretty good discount for NCL and ended up paying about half of what we have used to pay for vacations of similar length, e.g. in the aforementioned resorts. Despite the low price, the value for money was quite poor, and if I ever try a cruise again, I will definitely go for an actual luxury cruise with a luxury cruise line. We quickly realized that we are on a ship with almost 7,000 people (and 5,000 guests). The common areas were quite crowded and noisy, and we ended up spending most of our time in the exclusive Haven lounge. The lounge was, in general, quite relaxing and nice. The pool was somewhat small, but ok, given that, after all, we cannot expect a resort-like experience from a cruise. The service staff was also very nice and helpful, but compared to other luxury resorts, the Haven seemed quite seriously understaffed. The experience just is not at the level you would expect, even though all the people treat you very well. In particular, the staff seemed quite specialized. The Haven lounge had staff e.g. from the bar and the restaurant, and if I made a request for a wrong service person, it did not really work out. Either they directed me to seek another waitress (who might not have been available at all, if I went to look for her), or they just dismissed the request with something like "I don't know". I am usually not that demanding, so I did not really mind this, but this makes me drop the review from 5 stars to 4 stars (within luxury vacations). We decided to book a photography session during the cruise; we asked for the price and we were told that it is $299 for 30 minutes session. This seemed quite inexpensive, but I asked the photographer several times about the price and what's included, and she told me that we will have the digital files along with the property rights with this package. They never showed us the actual price list, even though I repeatedly asked about the prices, as this indeed seemed too low to be true. After finishing the session, they showed the actual price list: 12 photos with $799 and 18 photos with $999. The complete set of digital files was $1,999. I felt cheated, but did not want to make a scene out of it. Moreover, they did not give us the property rights to the pictures, but only a non-commercial right for reproduction for my own use. The files were also not high resolution originals, but compressed JPGs, which allow for printing the pictures, but not for additional editing. This whole experience makes me to drop my review from 4 stars to 3 stars (within luxury vacations). Once we got home and uploaded the pictures into our 5K iMac, looking at the pictures with high-quality screen, revealed that the quality of the photo editing was terrible. The pictures had really serious shadows and other color issues, which made the pictures look like really unnatural. We ended up buying the 18 photo package, but at least 3-4 out of these are essentially unusable. Since the files are not the original high-resolutions ones, we cannot edit them further by ourselves either. We tried to contact NCL afterwards in order to get them to fix the quality of the photoediting using the originals. After over 3 weeks, we still haven't received any response to our message. I find this unresponsiveness disappointing for a luxury resort/cruise, and this makes me drop the review to a final 2 stars. We still very much enjoyed our vacation, but if we will ever take another cruise, I think we will try an actual luxury cruise liner (even with doubled price) instead of NCL Haven (or other similar offers). For someone considering a luxury cruise for the first time, I would recommend rather going to a luxury (non-cruise) resort, or try a luxury cruise liner, of which I don't have any experience. This was a 9 day cruise, there was no good entertainment, which made the trip extremely boring, the music on the pool wouldn't start till 11am and it was mostly instrumental no good music at all, the bartenders were very rude, there was 1 bartender name Edward he was the only friendly one in the entire ship, we had the beverage package but they had a restriction on many drinks, the restaurant services were so slow we waited on appetizer for almost an hour, they really only include 3 restaurants all the other ones you have to pay extra and the 3 restaurants included serve the same food every night. I have used Norwegian a few times this is my 5th and I am so disappointed I wouldn't use them again is time to start looking at other cruise lines. The only good about this cruise was awesome weather and they were very clean as far as the room service and now they do time how long your towel is left alone on a chair which is good so it wasn't hard to find a spot most of the time. Let me start by saying I love to travel, especially to Caribbean islands. I particularly love vacations filled with nature, adventure and exploring new places. I've traveled quite a bit over the years, so I know that a big part of traveling is keeping things in stride and going with the flow. With this cruise vacation, however, my patience was tested even before getting on the ship. First the long line to drop off luggage, then the REALLY long line to go through security, then the line to check in, and finish that off with a line to get your picture taken and pretend you're having fun while still bundled in winter coats. Once on the boat my main complaints how smokey it is. The design of the ship is just terrible. They put the casino (where they allow smoking) in an open area around a 3-level atrium. And on these 3 levels are most things you'd want to enjoy on the ship--restaurants, comedy club, lounges, shopping, theatre, etc. The smoke is not contained at all, but wafts throughout these 3 floors. Complaint #2: The Garden Cafe. The very first morning of our cruise we went down to breakfast at 10:15 am (an unusually busy time, maybe?) and I just wanted to cry. The place was packed. The three of us waited a long time to get our food, but then walked around and around the place and could not find a place to sit. I was prepared to eat standing up, but then couldn't find any utensils to eat with (I later learned they're kept on the tables). People without any food were saving tables all over--a problem we also experienced with pool chairs, seating in the lounges, the theatre, you name it. This was one crowded ship. Another thing...I was thinking such a big cruise ship would have plenty of variety and I would be able to find enough things to eat. I normally eat a diet of mainly vegetables with a little meat. At breakfast there was not a vegetable to be found, unless you count the tablespoon of spinach in my omelet. It was pretty much a buffet of meat and sugar. On the positive side, the entertainment was really nice. "After Midnight" was absolutely awesome! Wow, what talent. I left wanting to see what else those performers might be able to do. "The Brat Pack" was OK. The staff talent show at the end was cute. The comedians were on board were great--Spencer James and Flip Shultz, as was Ben Nemzer, the magician/comedian. The Adele tribute artist (Chelsea something) was great. One suggestion for Norwegian: quit shining those strobe lights into the eyes of audience members! It happened at every show we saw in the theater. The overall vibe of the ship just wasn't for me. Maybe it was because this cruise spanned over New Year's, but there were so many drunk people everywhere. Surprising, since it seems it would be awfully expensive to get drunk on that ship! Also, I felt nickel-and-dimed. Extra $ for internet service, extra to use a Norwegian app that lets you text others on the ship while out at sea, extra for some of the entertainment and restaurants, $6 for a bottle of water from the bar, and so on. The Brat Pack was stupid and profane and After Midnight left me snoozing in my seat. Service was terrible. We waited 3 days without a bar of soap in our bathroom. This is our second time in the Haven and this cruise lacked priority boarding after excursions. I felt like it was a waste of money. The elevators on the ship were filthy, with food on the floor on more than one occasion. I'm not sure if it was the ship or the crew but I don't feel that the ship was taken care of which is disappointing after the amount of money we spend to have a luxury cruise. We'll be trying the MSC Yacht Club. I'm not sure if I will go on another NCL cruise Haven or not. Read Less

Chose this cruise because it was 12 days and $459 + taxes for total of $600. Left from and returned to Manhattan. Ship holds 4500 passengers. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. Cabin was average. The problem with this size ship is that in exchange for having more people, the venues decrease . Entertainment: The size of the theater is half that of smaller boats with one level only. It cannot accommodate even one quarter of the passengers at one time. Smaller boats have bigger theaters. As a result, you MUST reserve time and day for any and all entertainment on board. In addition there were only two musical production shows for an entire 12 day cruise which were repeated over and over so everyone could see it. There was one so so magician for two of the same shows. And they put a comedy act in the main theater to fill in. The comedy acts were usually in the smaller lounge and they were repeated numerous times with the same material. And as stated before, you needed reservations or you had to wait on line to get in if someone did not show up. There were two supper club shows which they charged extra for or you could not go in. And the supper club show held only a small number of passengers. Dining venues: There are three free dining areas. Manhattan, Savor and Taste. Manhattan is the larger of the three and has music for an hour and only open for dinner. The other two are smaller and no music. Service at all three was terrible for all meals, breakfast , lunch and dinner. Waiters were not experienced, mixed up orders, went back and forth bringing only one item at a time. They worked harder not smarter. Very slow service. Food was mediocre. Of course for more money, they had many more dining venues which charged more money and additional service charges when you have already paid for your meals. It seems that all in all the bigger boats provide room for more people, less service, less entertainment and less venues for entertainment. Fewer pools, smaller theater.smaller gym . But for more money you can now get better food, entertainment, drink packages, can get excursions etc. in addition to casino, and a spa which they charge more money to get in with heated chairs and sauna, steam room etc. it seems to me the cruise industry will put themselves out of business soon charging for everything which should be included in the fare.. They certainly have lost me as a cruise customer on these larger ships. Read Less

This was our third cruise with Norwegian, and it was our least favourite. Had it been our first Norwegian cruise, we wouldn't sail with them again. The ship was too crowded. If they're going to build bigger ships with more staterooms, then they should make bigger restaurants - and a bigger Atrium. During the "at sea" days we lined up for O'Sheehans, & the other general restaurants. There was never a seat in The Atrium, but that was okay because the entertainment was geared towards kids and 70 yr olds. If you liked balloon animals, trivia, and cheesy game show style entertainment, this was for you. If you liked someone banging a tambourine all through breakfast reminding you to wash your hands-- this cruise was for you. The other ships on Norwegian we sailed on had a different show in the theatre each nite- not this one. Some of the shows we had to pay extra $$ to attend. The comedians were hilarious (Flip Shultz!!). The excursions were too short. They'd drop you off at the beach around 1030- and return you at 1pm. The pools were too crowded, and the layout of the sun deck chairs wasn't great- you often stared at people sitting parallel to the glass barriers blocking the ocean view, or had a steady stream of ppl walking past you on the walking track. You had to pay an extra $15. to sit in Jimmy Buffet's restaurant, and each night 5 o'clock somewhere sat mostly empty. We were constantly bombarded with art auctions, jewellery sales, etc. Read Less

I chose the Escape because of the Departure port and dates. It is not the best ship some of the staff are not very friendly the spa was overpriced usually you can book before you get on the ship and they give you the online price, not this cruise, I got to the port and The gentleman said no discount you either book it with him for the full price or I could do it on the Shuo and wait in line and waste time he said the reason was the spa was pretty much sold out Turns out it was not and was very crowded they actually were selling spa packages mid cruise they did not have enough heated chairs you had to go early in the morning it was not very relaxing more frustrating and felt like I wasted 300 for nothing could have spent that money on the islands doing day passes at the resorts. On the bigger ships, you are just a number a cruise ship that holds over 4,000 people has a pool with a capacity of under 100 the layout is horrible the decor is terrible. Second time on this ship the only reason is it is convenient but if another cruise line was leaving out of the same port and around the same dates I would probably choose them over the escape. May seem cheap but in the long run, it turns out to be the same if not more then traveling another line. Norwegian has to allot of hidden fees that they don’t tell you up front. The casino staff was not very friendly never saw the casino host the payouts were horrible and layout was not good they have machines next to one of the clubs where the music is blasting and people are sitting at machines not playing but just watching people dance. We chose this cruise at the last minute. We were given a guarantee room. I was nervous about this This ship was only 75% full CABIN We ended up in room 12647, an inside, mid ship room. When we first saw the room we were in shock. It was no bigger than a closet. The bathroom was fine. The cabin had little storage place. After the first shock, we got used to it. We are never in the room. It was a perfect location. Close to both elevators and very quiet since are only 10 cabins in the hallway. Our room steward was just ok. He never took trash out. No soap for days FOOD We had been on this ship many times. The food has gone downhill. We ate at the Japanese restaurant. It was wonderful. Great food, great service, great fun. LaBistro was a huge disappointment. The escargot was horrible. French onion soup was very good. Carney’s was very good. Oysters Rockefeller was great. The steaks were fatty and tough. Bayamo was the biggest disappointment. The lobster was dry. We had the dining package. Our waitress told us we could get one appetizer, one main dish, and one dessert. We asked if we could get an extra salad also, as we always had in the past. We were told “no”. But the tables on either side of us were able to order three appetizers. The people at the other table told us they also had the dining package. We asked the waitress why they could get extras and we could not. She offered us a salad as we were eating dessert. The main dining room were pretty good. PORTS We arrived at Port Canaveral very late due to a medical emergency. It was too late to to get off. The ship canceled Great Stirrup Cay. No reason was given. Jamaica was terrible. I went for a walk. Locals kept offering me drugs. I had a guy approach me as I sat at a restaurant. Be very careful. Grand Cayman was very nice. Easy walk off. Lots of stores. Harvest Cay was my favorite. This is a private island. The beach is wonderful. The pool is incredible. Lots of lounge chairs. Lots of shaded areas. The stores were nice (no straw market). The excursions the best. Wake up early.......this port in relaxing, beautiful, and the best. Costa Maya was also great. The port is beautiful. A nice pool, stores, and music. I went to the the Mayan ruins. It was a great experience. Our guide was informative. Cozumel was okay. Easy walk off. Lots of store for souvenirs. The cheapest liquor prices. SHIP Lots to do on this ship. Water slides-Zipline-rope course-mini golf-trivia-hot tubs. There was was something to do. ENTERTAINMENT This was lacking on this ship. We did not like the Bratpack. It was confusing. Lots of folks walked out. After Midnight was good but the same type of dancing and songs. It seemed to go on forever. I love the supper club. We eat dinner while seeing a show. The golden Octoves were fabulous. The Brat Pack supper dinner was horrible. Lots of game shows. I enjoyed them. Progressive trivia was fun. The howl at the moon was not one of the best. Comedy shows were okay...not great, just okay. We found getting on and off the ship was very easy. The port employees were very friendly. This was our 5th or 6th time on this ship. Our 90th NCL cruise. We had a good time, but NCL is cutting more and more from it’s loyalty program. We keep noticing the cutbacks is every department. I am not sure what they are trying to achieve. They are becoming a low budget line. Read Less

This was our 13 cruise with NCL and maybe our last. Embarkation was handled poorly, treated like cattle and we're platinum members. We routinely pay extra for entry to the Vibe on other NCL ships. The Escape has the nerve to charge $180 when the identical layout is available for free on the other side. They also removed seating and replaced it with a fog machine (??). So you are basically paying for a lounge chair towel and a piece of fruit. The ship has noticeably less seating and to add insult to injury, they provide uncomfortable folding chairs in the atrium. The buffet was disappointing with less variety. The Savor and Taste dining room lunch menu remained the same for 14 days. The Margaritaville concept is an empty waste of space. No one wants to contribute towards Jim Buffet's coffers for the privilege of his hamburger. NCL ought to rethink this contract. Several venues had a "Private Events" sign but was not communicated on the daily Newsletter. As a frequent cruiser with NCL, I was not invited to any. Evidently hand sanitizing is no longer a priority either. I had no issues with the staff. They were professional and friendly throughout. You would think that there is a large enough customer base out of NYC, NCL management would pay more attention to providing a pleasurable experience, maybe they just don't care. Read Less

Imagine trying to get from deck 6 to 16 as an example and having to wait for multiple elevators to go by before one had space, roughly three to four time a day. It got really old really quick. Service was inconsistent with us receiving outstanding service at one restaurant and then absolutely poor service at another. Medium rare was delivered well done, incorrect drink orders, no bread, no butter, asked multiple times for lemon and things of that nature. Normally not a big deal, but it was happening nearly every day at different meals and restaurants. For example, breakfast would be fantastic with suburb service then dinner would be filled with all sorts of service errors and vice versa the next day. Totally inconsistent the entire cruise. ULTIMATE drink package was totally and completely insane in the way it works. Get this, an Irish coffee for $9.95 was included but not a $1.95 espresso or a bottle of water. You can order any alcoholic drink you wanted under $15 but not water, espresso or herbal tea? Espresso with Bailey's yes! Espresso with no alcohol, no! Budweiser (or any beer) yes! Pellegrino no! Totally idiotic and mind numbing. Smoking is supposedly only allowed in designated areas but trust me, it reeks of smoke all over that ship. The 7th deck is where the casino is located and that entire floor is completely engulfed in smoke. Overall it just wasn't relaxing or enjoyable consistently throughout the cruise. You can expect little annoyances to happen but when they happen frequently it's kid of like stubbing your toe 12 times in 12 different places. Eventually you just want to put shoes back on when technically you're on the cruise to relax and take your shoes off. Read Less

This was our 4th Norwegian cruise. I love Norwegian, but hated the Escape. Too Big, Too Loud, Too many people. Do not like the atrium. Everything happens in the atrium. Why? Always crowed, people milling around even if they were not there for what ever was going on. Cooking demo, could not hear because they was a loud and noisy crowd upstairs at O'shannahans. HAD TO WALK THROUGH THE CASINO, WITH MY GRANDKIDS TO GET TO THE MIDDLE OF THE BOAT!!! You could smell cigarette smoke every where, it was disgusting. As usual had wonderful meals at the specialty restaurants, however was a little disappointed in Morderno, table of six, service was very slow. Had problems with the elevators. My husband uses a scooter, waited 10 to 35 minutes to get elevators that had room so he could drive on. I no not understand why Norwegian does not have dedicated card access handicap elevators. We will probably cruise Norwegian again, but not on the Escape or any of the sister ships. Read Less

Took my parents on this cruise for their 50th anniversary. There were 7 of us in total ranging in age from 21-78. THE GOOD: Food was very good, and we liked Taste/Savor. Avoid the Manhattan restaurant unless you like very loud live music throughout your entire dinner. My Mother had to leave because she couldn't take it (though she's 77, it bothered all of us too). The Choir of Man show was really fun. The drink package, for $250 was well worth it - Bombay, Kettle One, Tito's are included. The private island was nice. Snorke/Sail in the Bahamas was nice as well. THE BAD: I found the staff to be cold and unfriendly. The 80's show (Brat Pack) was just awful. A lot of people walked out. It was also difficult to get into most of the shows that wouldn't accept reservations beforehand. There are simply too many people for too few seats and shows. Be prepared to take the stairs a lot - elevators were usually packed. Again, too many people. THE UGLY: The biggest problem with the cruise were the uninspired and boring activities. Trivia three times a day., and it was always packed. And the big winners won a thing to keep your drink cold. Is it called a couzy? Seriously, Napkin Folding was on the agenda. Also, Fruit Carving. $25 to play Deal or No Deal - not to be the contestant, just to play along! You get the idea. Yup. Kill me. One last thing - and this is so strange - the ship itself didn't rock up and down slowly, but it SHOOK from side to side. Like, really shook. It was bizarre. I had a really hard time sleeping. In short, I was simply bored. Read Less

1- Unlike other cruise lines, drinking package doesn’t include bottled water and specialty coffee!!!!!! You have to pay extra for those! Unbelievable 2- Not so baby friendly cruise! 1- no baby with diaper is allowed in the pool, even swimming diaper is not permitted 2- the only indoor swimming pool is a 18+ and at extra fee. So family having young baby gets no pool to enjoy at all!!! 3- daycare service is very restrict with specific time slot. It’s like we have to move our schedule around the nursery time. 3- Slow elevators and it stops at every floor regardless if someone push the bottom or not. 4- Slow and sometime no so friendly service at the restaurant. The reservation system is bad too. You can only reserve when the restaurant is closed, once it’s open, it’s a first come first serve base. 5- smoking is allowed in the casino! The smell is crazy even in the area close to the casino!!! They should have a closed room just for the smokers! 6- you need to reserve in advance for parasol or clamshell for their private island. You can’t rent them on the spot. Terrible experience! Overall, not impressed! Do not recommend!!! Read Less

My friend took me on my 1st cruise, we left NYC late we sailed from 6pm Sunday until 12pm Wednesday where we sat in ocean because there were 2 ships in port so we docked late on Wednesday had no time in Bermuda that day. Spent Thursday in Bermuda & Friday afternoon, we left a little late on Friday sailed full speed through a terrible storm all day Saturday people were sick everywhere, outside decks were all closed it was so bad. The smoking situation was absolutely ridiculous. On Saturday you could smoke in casino or small box room near cigar bar it was disgusting, I understand people find it a disgusting habit, but everyone has there rights & addictions. The food was very boring at all places. My friend has gluten allergies & it was a pain for her to get the food she wanted due to language barriers, she asked an Asian girl for a toasted English muffin & got 2 pcs of gluten free toast & 2 blueberry muffins. Not great for 1st time cruiser kind of turned me off. We also didn’t find the bartenders to be very friendly inside except for bar across from casino. The bartenders outside were great, especially on 17 & 18. Read Less

I chose this cruise because it was the week I was able to get off from work and out of NYC. I did one cruise with Royal Caribbean out of Bayonne and loved it. Norwegian cannot compare to Royal Caribbean. We were disappointed with the Escape. It started with long check in lines and once we got to the buffet no seats! We walked around with plates of food and no where to sit! Way too many people to accommodate and some very rude. Staff in the buffet waiting tables not very helpful. We went up to get most of our drinks because by time someone came around it was too late. Dinning room staff and food was good but no lobster night or farewell dinner. The dinning room couldn’t compare to Royal Caribbean’s liberty of the seas. The ports were ok with Port Canaveral being a waste of time. The private island great stir up cay took way too long waiting for tender boats to take you to the island and was disorganized and beach and water too crowded. Some of the staff serving drinks ignored us and we had to go to another service station to get drinks. Bahamas was nice but 8-5:30 just left you wishing for more. I missed tropical music on the pool deck it started early in the morning and was finished early and I would miss it and was never played long enough to catch. No sail away parties. Cruise director and a some of the staff was not personable and a lack of connection. Getting off the ship again long lines and we almost missed our bus because it took so much longer then we can anticipate. We will do a land trip our next vacation very disappointed Norwegian and this cruise. It wasn’t a relaxing trip. Read Less

My family and I (husband and 12 year old son) went on this ship to Bermuda out of NY. The NY cruise terminal was organized and an easy process. The ship looks very nice, our balcony room was nice, and the house keeping staff kept our room clean twice a day. Getting off and on the ship was easy enough in Bermuda and the destination was wonderful. The Zumba workout was great. I had a Swedish message with felt amazing but then after it was over they tried to sell me products, had me speak to the acupuncture doctor, and wanted me to have my foot scan done. All I wanted was a massage and to relax. We enjoyed the comendy/magician the most out of all entertainment on the ship. I will say that is about all I can say positive. My family has cruised before and I couldn't help but notice some big negatives about this cruise in comparison to others. First the food was not great and a big disappointment. I did not pay extra for dining so this is just about the food at the buffets and main dining rooms. Margaritaville is now a restaurant you have to pay for. On the breakaway it was free dining. The ship felt disorganized. Many of the staff members seemed to be at a lose when I asked questions. I was lost at times on when things took place and with all the extra charges on things I couldn't really keep up with what was included and what was an up charge until I tried to reserve a spot at the shows. With all the confusion on the I missed the Brat Pack show and was pretty bummed about it. I heard positive feedback on the ship from others but wouldn't know myself. My family loves the shows so this was a real let down that we missed a show that they were charging us extra for. By the time I realized we hadn't seem it we were 4 days into the cruise and the show was no longer playing. After Midnight was a talented group of people but no beginning to end story line to the show. The show was nice but not the type of show I would rave about. Cleaning service was the best. Dinner service was poor most nights, had to ask for drink refills numerous times and one night we were at dinner for about 2 hours. We left without dessert because it was such a slow service. Also the dinner with live entertainment is very loud and we couldn't talk to one another. Bermuda destination is amazing. Getting on and off ship was easy. I enjoyed that. Finally if you have children- please note after 11 pm there is nothing to do with your child. All venues close for kids at 11 pm. Some of you may think that is fine but our son is 12 years old and we tend to stay up a little later on vacation. It would have been nice to be able to do things with him until at least midnight (comparing this to other ships and cruise lines we have been on). The main pool is adults only. There is no inside pool area. The watersides were nice though. The rope course had a lot of areas closed due to high winds (most days). Basketball and soccer is outside. All bball and soccer tournaments were 13-17 or 18+. The kids zone went up to 12 and then there was the teen zone that started at 13 so my son felt too old to be in the younger one and wasn't old enough for the teen zone. So he didn't participate in that at all. Overall this was not my favorite ship. I will definitely be cruising with another cruise line moving forward. We had a much better experience on another line and so I am a fan elsewhere. I really wanted to give an honest review for others who value these reviews and who are thinking of cruising on this line. I will say this is just my opinion and our experience. Read Less

1. The boat holds over 4,000 people. The boarding and disembarking processes are a MESS -- it takes forever with line after line after line and wait after wait after wait. It is a rough way to start/end a vacation!!!!! 2. The staff is amazing. It's hard to imagine how they train that many people to be nice, courteous, helpful -- they do an amazing job! 3. The BOAT REAKS OF CIGARETTE SMOKE. Seriously -- the smoking kept me out of the main ship areas. See, one of the smoking areas is in the casino which is one floor of the 5 floor atrium so the ENTIRE atrium smells. My kids pulled their shirts up over their noses to minimize the smell. IT WAS BAD. Ironically the other smoking area is on an outside deck -- adjacent to the jogging path. 4. Overall, the food was good! Lots of choices and good quality across the board. Our favorite was Moderno -- the brazilian steak house. It was well done and the salad bar was quite wonderful. 5. There is entertainment. It was fine. The best stuff we saw was the comedians and Matt Marcy magic. 6. If you have kids -- DO NOT MISS THE ESCAPE THE BIG TOP!!!!! It was a fun 1 hour activity! 7. I loved the cruise director and his team -- they made all their activities super fun. 8. Be prepared to walk stairs....a lot! The elevators CAN NOT handle the volume of people on this ship. You wait FOREVER for elevators, often have to wait to get an elevator you can fit on, and will stop on EVERY. SINGLE. FLOOR. If you want to get anywhere, you will want to take the stairs. Read Less

Chose this cruise to go to Canada. What happened to all the Priority Services???? The problems began with embarkation. Twice sent to the wrong line.. This was a casino sponsored trip which is suppose to get priority. I also have platinum status. I do not think the staff really looked at my ticket. They just shuffled me along. Did too much stand up waiting to get on this ship. There was no priority customer service - was told there is only one line. No priority embarkation when carrying suitcases and leaving ship early. It is a good thing I went down early. Have booked 5 cruises for next year. NONE ON NORWEGIAN. Was in a balcony room, 11852 ,with very little room between the bed and the 1 small closet. Had to step around the bed to get to the balcony side of the room. If I had paid the full price for this room over $3000. I would have been even more angry. The food was good and the steward for my room, I believe his name was Eugene, helped me keep it in great shape. The best thing about this ship was a show called After Midnight., Read Less

I’ve been on most of the major cruise lines on at least 12 or 15 cruises. This cruise ranks at the bottom of the list. And no one seems to care! I’ve been on at least 4 inaugural cruises with Holland America. I’ve been on numerous Carnival cruises. I’ve cruised on small ships and medium ships as well as large ships. The best part of the cruise was the show in the Supper Club - The Choir of Man. It was outstanding. But even that became an issue because I wasn’t allowed to see it a second time (but I found a way). The food was mediocre at best. Not until the last 2 nights did I get a piece of meat that was tender! I have lost a considerable amount of weight and my swim suits no longer fit. And I live in Oregon - hard to find swim suits in September in Oregon. No problem, I thought! We’re going to a tropical port so they’ll have them on the ship in the shops. WRONG! Not suit one! I’ve never been on a ship that didn’t have free internet access in an Internet cafe (or similar). They wanted $180 for one week access - outrageous! And there is much more. But suffice it to say that I will never cruise with Norwegian again. And I met many - and I mean MANY - who expressed the same sentiment! Norwegian - you have a problem! Read Less
