We have cruised three times on Norwegian. This was our first in The Haven and won't be our last. We loved the quiet atsmophere of the area. There was a nice mix of couples and families in The Haven. The kids were all well behaved and the private sun deck was busy, but always available. On hot days the top was closed and air conditioned. Food at the restaurant was excellent, though the menu never changed. We did order food from the main dining room one night and had it delivered to our stateroom. If you are wondering if the Haven is worth the cost. I say YES! The ropes course and the free fall water slide were highlights for me. We didn't get off the ship at Harvesy Cay and did a ship day. Beware if you're going to ride the free fall slide, no jewelry of any kind can be worn. This includes watches, earrings, nose rings, etc. We love the Spa and spent many hours there. The Spa is a peaceful place to get away from the noise of the ship. I loved going from the steam room to the snow room. The heated thermal beds were my favorite place for a short nap. The Theraphy pool was awesome and very powerful. For shows I highly recommend both After Midnight. The quality of the show was of high caliber. The best show I've ever seen on a ship. The singing, and tap dancing was incredible. The Brat Pack was very good. It has a PG16 rating and there is some sexual innuendos, foul language, and stripping down to underwear in the show. Remember the show is about John Hugh's movies and the lines are directly from a movie. While it didn't bother me, I simply warn you if you're taking kids to the show. Read Less

This was definitely the worst cruise I've ever been on! We love cruises for the service and entertainment, but this lacked both! All the music at ALL the venues were too loud to enjoy. We are in our 40s and love to sit and enjoy music, but couldn't find any venues to enjoy. The musical After Midnight was horrible! The ship was so big that they couldn't provide the small nicities we learned to expect. There was 1 pool for the 4200 passengers plus a kiddy pool. There was no music or champaign when we entered the ship. The buffet was terrible, worse than cafeteria food! There was only 1 stewart per cabin.Disembarkment was terrible and we almost missed our plane. We will never go on a NCL again. We will stick with all of the other lines! On the plus side, the embarkment was quick and speciaty restaurants and drinks were good. Read Less

First I have to start by saying that the crew on this ship definitely made our vacation one of the best ever. The Assistant Maitre D in Taste/Savor Koray Pamukcu was by far the best on the entire ship. He truly made our cruise by accommodating our group of 19 almost every night. We are a rough group and he made us feel like VIP's everyday. He was outstanding so I had to name him first. Now on with the review. Miami airport- we took an uber to the ship. Downloaded the uber app while waiting for our luggage. Cost $13 with tip but we gave the driver a little more. Embarkation was easy. Have a pen on you to fill out health questionnaire, we had to borrow one from a fellow passenger. Check in was easy and our group was there already with a boarding number so we sat with them until called. Once on the ship we went right to the "box office" the kids wanted to sign up for the escape room. The line was not too bad but quickly increased in size by the time we were done. We previously had booked 2 shows online about a month prior to cruise. Met the rest of our group at the buffet for lunch. They were already abusing the unlimited drink package. If you have this package try the different drinks of the day. The rebellious fish was delicious and the mojito bar seemed to make it the best. Signed up for the Thermal suite pass at the spa. Well worth the $200 for the week. Great place to find peace and relax. The therapy pool had strong jets for our weary legs after a day on the islands. There is a salt room, sauna, steam room and even a snow room. Didn't spend much time in that room but it was pretty cool. Literally!!!! Also has heated beds that you can take in the gorgeous view or relax and read. Spent the rest of the day exploring the ship then met some of our group for dinner at Taste. This is where we met Koray, lucky for us. My husband and I didn't really stay out late but the "kids" the youngest being 18 and some of the other adults went to spice h2o at night and had fun dancing at the different themed parties. We saw the Brat Pack show For the record. I thought it was very well put together. The cursing didn't bother me because it was lines from the movies not just random cursing. We didn't have the Dining package so we didn't eat at any of the specialty restaurants. We ate ate Savor or Taste 6 nights and O'Sheehans one night. Again they accommodated our group only 17 that night. I believe her name was Lily. Also the food and beverage manager came over to check on us. Again making us feel like VIP's. The food is good on the Escape. The buffet had these chicken tenders that were delish. But not everyday some days fish was there, don't be fooled. My friend bit into one thinking it was chicken. We had breakfast at the buffet everyday. We would frequent the same area and this is how our group met up each morning. There is something for everyone in the dining rooms. Order 2 entrees if not sure of something. Plus if you want to try something, get it. Might not be on menu again. The big top escape was a lot of fun. It helps that our kids are geniuses and we won. There was no extra cost for this. We actually wish there was more trivia on the ship. One of our few complaints. Also did water slides which were fun and you could see when the line wasn't too long from your lounge chair. The deck above the pool usually had available chairs after breakfast. Kids did ropes course when we were docked. They liked it. My husband and I did the mini golf the first sea day but early, before breakfast. No line so it was good. The atrium shows seemed fun but to us were a "bust". Very limited seating and if your further back can't see anything. Not enjoyable to us. The pool was crowded, yes, but the adult pool was watched over and kids were asked to leave immediately. The pool servers, Heidi and Irene were the best. Very hard working and remembered our drink orders the whole week after day one! Watch your feet on the deck. Very hot, wear flip flops right up to the pool. Learned this the hard way. Being a silver latitudes member we were able to get money off our shore excursions. My husbands ship card did not read silver so we had to go to guest relations. They were very helpful and the line was short when we went. Libby James at the shore excursions desk assisted us with this and was very helpful and pleasant. Again adding to making this one of the best cruises ever. My husband is a cigar smoker the room available was over taken by cigarette smokers and poorly ventilated. However the servers and bartenders in this area were phenomenal. Especially Xueli Wu. I ate lunch one day at Margaritaville. It was good and the margaritas were wonderful. Roatan- we came off ship and hired a bus to take us to West Bay beach. There was a hotel called paradise hotel that we could us there pool and bathrooms were available. The tour operator Grace stayed with us at the beach and coordinated a server from the bar to bring us drinks and she kept away the peddlers if we're weren't interested in buying something. The beach was great with lounge chairs provided. The water crystal clear. Belize- not what I expected. It's Norwegians own "destination" with a pool, lounge chairs and bars and restaurant available. Land shark grille had a long wait. Even when you got a table waited almost an hour for food. Worth a peek if you didn't book excursion but went back to ship after an hour or so. Costa maya- went on tour to Chacchoben ruins. It was really impressive. We did the shorter tour no lunch. The bus was nice and air conditioned. Cozumel- we did the snorkel and beach party tour. The snorkeling was good, the beach area had blow up slides and trampoline and paddle boarding. Good choice for all of us. Our party ended up getting separated as we all came off the ship differently. Make sure your all together because there are multiple boats doing the same tour. We stayed in an inside cabin for the first time ever. It was larger than I expected and comfortable for the two of us. Enough room to store our stuff and bathroom was pretty big considering. Didn't really see our room steward but always had ice and most nights towel animal. Overall our whole group had an amazing time and I would definitely recommend this ship. Read Less

This was my first cruise. I took it with four girlfriends; we were all celebrating turning 60. It was far better than I ever imagined. Food and entertainment options were abundant and excellent. Spa treatment was superb. The pools were too small for the size of the ship, and one of the two should have been reserved for adults only at all times. But I loved that it used salt water rather than chlorine. The staff was very pleasant and solicitous. My room steward was very attentive. The room was a little cramped, but very clean. I loved having a balcony. I didn't care for the smoking in the casino area, nor on 17, right above the running track and pool area. But I guess smokers need to smoke someplace. I loved the shore excursions I took. I loved that there was such a variety of people -- singles; couples; families, including elders; LGBT; various nationalities, races and ethnicities; disabled. It was an extremely enjoyable experience. I will definitely be back. Read Less

WE were on the cruise for my Mom's 90th Birthday . We chose the Haven to make it easier for her to get to meals more easily and have some quiet areas to relax . The Haven Staff was amazing , the private lounge and restaurant were both first class . Only reason to leave the haven was to explore the ship or head for the entertainment . The entertainment was a bit Disappointing as my Mom asked to leave after a short time as the noise level in the theater was excessive . we also found that was the case by the main pool as well .. The good news is going back to the Haven solved that issue . Speciality dining was very good except once again the noise level in the Teppenaki room. The Chef's put on the typical show of flipping food and banging their tools on the grill surface. We were the first group in and could handle the banging from our Chef , BUT as other groups came in the noise level was much to loud . Food Great/Noise Bad... We also ate at the Curricia which was a great experience . The crew circled us with a never ending symphony of Meats cooked to perfection .. A meat lovers Paradise !!!! One thing about the Haven pool area was a bit confusing . The Main pool there is only about 8 feet wide and 20 feet long good for lap swimming but not if anyone else is in it . Connected to the main pool is a shallow pool ( 12" deep) with lounges inside . I suppose the idea was to sit on the lounges and stay cool .. That did not seem to work as the webbing on the lounges was not comfortable and the sun beating on you convinced you to find a shaded area to relax. Rethinking the pool area would likely be a good idea for the future Read Less

My wife and I are die-hard Norwegian cruisers!!!! This was our 8th cruise on NCL and 3rd time on the Escape and we can't wait until we are back on her December 16, 2017 with our grown children. As usual, the ship was very clean and the employees were motivated as always once we boarded. We were in group 1 and decided to go for the Vibe passes and they were so worth it and more! In the Vibe, you are treated very, very well. Since there are no more than 60 passes (I believe) it is never crowded, has the loungers/umbrellas with nice spa covers, loungers in the mist area (fabulous), a big Jacuzzi, and the great bar tenders will take your orders from your lounger as well. They will also serve you fruit skewers and bring you a cold towel to cool off. Every time we cruise NCL it gets better and better each time!!!! The amazing Cruise Critic get together (Thanks BakerMom) was well attended by the Escape Officers and we were fed outstanding appetizers and some great beers in the District Brew House. I would like to give a big shout-out to all of the staff and Deeptak Punia, Hotel Director, Errol Nelson Assistant Hotel Director, Kivanc Ucar, Food & Beverage Director, Ronney Dsouza, Executive Housekeeper, Tyler Gray, Best Cruise Director so far, Nomita Rambhunjan, Guest Service Manager, Charles Fernandes, Executive Chef, Melvyn Lobo Restaurant Manager and the one and only Jose Contreras Beverage Manager!!!!!! I would also like to shoot out to Sun our Stateroom Guy, The Bar Tenders in the Vibe, O-Sheehan's, and the 5 O'clock Somewhere Bar (Chocolate Cowboy and Johnie for their great jobs of always keeping us happy and not wanting to go home!!!!! The "Washy, Washy" crew always started our day off with their singing!!!!! We are counting the days down until the next cruise in December and our inaugural cruise from London on the Bliss next April 2018!!!!!! Once again, NCL has out done themselves and I just don't know how much higher they can go!!!!!! The food was outstanding and the entertainment as well. We loved the Wine Lover's Comedy which was very entertaining!!! I could go on and on, but Thanks again Norwegian for another great time!!!! Read Less

This cruise was chosen as a summer vacation for a family. We dined in the Manhattan, Savor, and Taste three nights and three nights in the specialty restaurants. (the last night we went casual at O'Sheehan's) The service in the dining rooms was great and the specialty restaurants were one step above. We felt dining in the specialty restaurants really added to our vacation, so if you have that option I suggest you should explore that. The food was wonderful. Our choices were Cagney's, La Cucina, and Teppanyaki. The ship was easy to find your way around and by the first night it was totally mastered. Having been on numerous cruises I felt this cruise ship was lacking in many areas. The entertainment was poor and really needs improvement. I did not care for the cruise director and his assistant. My teens enjoyed the kids' club and I was really happy about that. There was enough going on that kept them both busy and happy. (side note: there were 800 kids on the cruise, so that really helped) I don't think enough thought went in the design of the ship. (Ex: jogging track encircled a very busy area near the water activities) The main pool was much too small for the number of passengers and the loungers were crammed everywhere. I would like to add the gym was very clean and quite nice. I could list other things, but will move on. Overall, the food was decent. There were some very good things to eat and then some misses, but there is plenty. I am an outdoor person and I enjoyed a large amount of time in the sun. If you do not like to relax in the sun this may be a cruise lacking in other things to do during the day. This cruise was a nice escape from reality. If you want to be on the ocean, have plenty of food choices, and numerous bars then this cruise is great. If you are looking for a prettier ship and one that is designed nicer, more daily activities, and excellent entertainment options at night then you should look to Royal Caribbean. The Escape was nice, but I feel the value for the money was not there. Royal Caribbean puts out a much nicer ship, good food options, more going on in daily activities, and superior entertainment options at night. If I were to choose between NCL and RCL my vote would be RCL for a family vacation. Read Less

Sorely disappointed in Norwegian, who position themselves at the higher end of cruise lines. Service was rude and slow to put it mildly, and they allow children to literally run wild all over the ship, not just near the pool where you would expect it and where it doesn't bother most people. People were also smoking where they weren't allowed and the crew just let it happen. I stepped on a glass shard at the entrance to the waterslides, and WHILE I WAS BLEEDING the crew member there was rude and not helpful at all. I had to hobble to the 13th floor to have the ship's doctor dig in my foot to remove the glass shard, after arguing with them that I should not have to PAY them to remove THEIR glass from my FOOT. After a long hour of digging in my foot with no anesthetic, he finally got the glass out. Oh yeah, they made me take a breathalizer also - which was 0.00 because I hadn't had a drop to drink before getting hurt. They also interrogated me and my husband like we had done something wrong. Afterward, no apology, no follow up in the days after to check on me.... In fact to make matters worse, later that same evening we had dinner at O'Sheehan's and I was served fajitas with a long black hair in a piece of the beef. Truly a fantastic cap to a stellar day. At least they said sorry about that one. At the Mojito bar, the bartenders are SURLY and slow. They advertise a flight of Mojitos but when you order it, you get attitude and they try to talk you out of it, probably because it takes a while for them to make all 6 flavors but it's on the menu and hey it's my vacation - so I wanted it. The cigarette butts on my beautiful balcony flicked down from the idiots on the balconies above sat there uncleaned for 3 days. Smoking is not permitted on balconies, but somehow half the time when we wanted to go out there we smelled smoke so you do the math. Everything went unpoliced, except for the people spraying you down with hand sanitizer at every turn, which was actually quite annoying. Smoke and yell and run and bang in to people, but put this sanitizer on your hands and all is forgiven. Norwegian clearly needs to realign their focus so when people get on their ship they look forward to the cruise instead of when it will finally end so they can get the heck off. Not the way I wanted to spend my 25th Anniversary. Read Less

This was my 1st cruise ever & my 30th birthday cruise. I went with my boyfriend which has cruised in the past with Carnival. Our embarkation was ok, it was not quick but we weren't in a hurry. Just very hot. Once onboard very friendly staff and beautiful ship. Our room was always clean and well stocked. Dining was amazing, I can only complain of a couple of minor dishes in the buffet but restaurants and specialty dining was outstanding regarding to flavor and service. We went to a couple of shows including a comedy and juggling show which had us both laughing for a couple of hours. We did our own excursions which are actually cheaper than what is provided on the website or if you go to the excursions online before you reach the port. St. Thomas we traveled the whole island and had a 2 to 3 hour beach break for less than $80. In the Bahamas we did a beach day for led than $30 including alcohol. The only complaint I would have regarding this cruise was the pool. The ship had 1 adult pool (general) for over 4,000 guests. I would definitely travel with NCL again and on the Escape. The cruise director (Tyler) and the asst. cruise director (Jackie I think it's spelled) were amazing!! Very energetic and kept everyone on their toes and made the night activities very exciting and fun! Looking forward to getting back out there soon!!! Read Less

This was our first cruise and will not be our last. We didn't particularly choose the ship, just where we wanted to go, but dropped lucky. We booked the excursions and restaurants prior to departing and it was really easy using the NCL website. The embarkation was a little lengthy and although we had a time slot, it did not appear to make any difference. It is quite annoying when there are desks free with no staff to man them, although extra staff did appear and the queue went quicker. Once we got to the desk, it was very smooth and we were soon on the ship. We upgraded to a balcony stateroom which was perfect for us, very clean, plenty of storage and well designed. We had a king size bed, TV, coffee and tea making facilities, safe, lots of hangers and a mini bar. The bathroom is a fantastic layout with toiletries and towels provided, the shower was amazing. The balcony had two chairs and a small table, great sitting out in the morning and having a glass of wine in the evening. The food onboard was amazing, no matter where you ate it was stunning, our favourite was La Bistro (French Al A Carte), although all of them we ate at were very good ( La Cuchina, Moderno & Teppanayki). The main buffet area (Garden Cafe) was more than adequate with lots of choice which changed daily. The bars was good, plenty of choice, our favourite was The Cellars, outside Deck 8 Jocelyn was a fantastic host. The entertainment was good, we went to three shows, all very good - Brat Pack, Wine lovers musical and After midnight. There was plenty going on all day byt we just wanted to chill. All of the staff we had dealings with were very friendly and attentive, nothing was too much trouble. We went on all three excursions and getting off and on the ship was an easy process, very slick. The excursions were good and well executed. Thew ship itself is unbelievable, everything you would need is there for you, from a quiet place to sunbath to dancing the night away. This was our first cruise so we cannot compare it with any other cruise line or ship however, we enjoyed it so much we have paid our deposit for the next one. Read Less

I loved my experience on this cruise. Several things made it above and beyond the three other cruise lines I have experienced: 1. My child's peanut allergy was put into the system and every restaurant proactively took precautions to ensure that what he was eating was safe. 2. The spa experience was top quality, quiet, and peaceful. Definitely pay the extra $200 for this. it was my favorite part of the cruise. The heated stone lounges and the view were exceptional. Also loved the huge hot tub, sauna, steam room, snow room, rain forest shower, warm robes, and fresh fruit/tea/infused waters available. 3. The shows were off Broadway quality - great actors, singers, dancers. 4. Everything was exceptionally clean. People actually stood outside restaurants to spray people's hands and there was hand sanitizer everywhere. 5. I am a picky eater, but found many things to eat at the complimentary restaurants. The crepes station was my favorite. Also enjoyed the fish and chips at O'Sheehans, 6. Getting on and off the ship was quick and easy both for the excursions and the original departure and arrival. 7. My favorite shore excursion was the Bonmoral island visit in Nassau - beautiful, turquoise, clear, warm waters and light waves. 8. The pay-extra restaurants were excellent. My husband and I enjoyed a romantic dinner at Le Bistro. Our family enjoyed the relatively inexpensive World Taste area. I didn't enjoy the Brazilian place as much, but the salad bar alone would have me going back. 9. Slides, rope course, and other activities kept the teens occupied. 10. Everyone was friendly. Customer service was quick. I have only a few recommendations: First, they should have water stations on every floor. It's impossible to find a glass of water without either ordering at a bar or going up to the 16th floor. Secondly, the library was always packed every time I went. There are many introverts who would like brainy-type activities such as Scrabble tournaments or lectures or board game nights. Overall, I really loved this cruise and will be taking Norwegian cruises as often as I can in the future. Read Less

This was our 8th cruise on NCL. For our family, we think NCL gives great value, service and treats us to a great vacation every time. We have cruised on Princess (Golden, Carribbean, and Royal) and Royal Caribbean (Freedom and LIberty), and have enjoyed them all. We choose NCL Escape because we appreciate the casual atmosphere of NCL without sacrificing service and overall great ambience of a large cruise ship. Pre-cruise, we stayed at the Element Miami International Airport - we had a lovely stay. Ever since we missed the boat in 2008 (LONG STORY), we now ALWAYS fly in a day early and stay at a local hotel. There was a heated outdoor pool which was quite lovely. We ordered in Chinese takeaway for dinner and the fried rice came in a bucket like fried chicken! Breakfast included with hot breakfast sandwiches, fruit, cereal, coffee etc. There were not many restaurants nearby, so you would need to get a taxi or uber. I would stay at this hotel again. It was a great value - I would say it is similar to Hampton Suites or Best Western, but with a full kitchen. The Escape is quite a large ship, very similar in layout to the Getaway, which we also loved. We had a balcony cabin. The sofa gets bedding for 3rd person (comes out about 4 inches out from under the back cushion for more sleeping area), and the bunk bed comes out of the ceiling for the 4th person. Love the balcony. We don't go on it much, but do appreciate coming in and out of port. We ate in the MDR most meals and loved it. While I would agree that the food quality is not the same as when we first cruised in 2001, we always did find something delicious on the menu. The buffet is busy, but the food quality and selection was good. Kids club on Escape was exciting for my 8yo daughter. Performances were really well done. Swimming pool Pirate show was so nice - the kids all got really involved and had a memorable experience. Kids club area was very nicely done and counsellors were great. Family dance party was also SO MUCH FUN. DJ and dancers got everyone moving. So cute. Kids loved it. Don't miss it. Water slides - AMAZING. Kept kids busy. Escape is a great ship for a family vacation - not too stuffy, relaxing, enough for the kids to do, and was a wonderful vacation. Read Less

I went on this cruise with 7 other people and it was one of the best cruises. This was my first NCL cruise so was excited to try a different cruise ship. I had my doubts when it came to the embarkation which was very disorganized and we had to wait out in the sun for a very long time. Also I was confused once in the terminal as to which direction to go after passing security , so signs would be helpful. Once aboard I was pleasantly surprised we had a room with a large balcony off the back of the ship so it was nice with a little bigger room and balcony. My husband and I name all our cruises so we remember them and this one we named the gluttony cruise because the food was out of this world. We ate at the different specialty restaurants for 5 meals and it was top of the line .Some of the best food I have ever had. Its Worth the extra money it to try at least one of the specialty restaurants, I liked the French food the best. The dinning room food was great as well I did not have one bad meal no matter what restaurant I ate at. The specialty restaurants seats fill up quickly so make plans early in the cruise. The other part of this ship that was right up there with the best of the best was the entertainment. The shows were better then ones I seen in Vegas and the dueling piano lounge had me up on my feet dancing and singing along. The entertainment crew was friendly and really made me feel as though I was one of the NCL family. The service was good, the room was kept clean but I never did meet the cabin Stewart. It was like my room magically got cleaned any time I was away. Everyone was nice and Accommodating.so I only have praise for the entire crew. I did go on 2 Shore excursion Toured St Thomas and Tortola both which were amazing. I also went on the champagne snorkel tour and although I don't partake in adult beverages I had the time of my Life. Captain Joe will never be forgotten he was very entertaining and a great Captain. I will definitely be cruising the NCL again. Read Less

We booked a cruise and stay in Miami for my 40th Birthday ŵith my husband and two children age 12 and 9. We stayed in south beach for 4 days , we did a city tour / boat and Everglades combo through Viator which was really good. Miami is a really lively, vibrant city but very expensive for dining and shopping compared to Orlando where you can get some great bargains. The boarding of the Escape was really easy, the porters at the dock are happy to take your luggage for a little tip. You go through security line up to check in and then wait to be called to board. They laid on complimentary refreshments whilst we waited. Once you are in the ship you are good to go, unfortunately for us the heavens opened up and put a dampner on the start of our cruise experience but by the time we set sail the sun came out and the sail away party was well under way with everybody in high-spirits for the 7 day cruise. We had a balcony cabin which was quite spacious and nice, modern and clean I would recommend a balcony if the budget can stretch. We had a ultimate drinks package for the 2 adults included and $200 on board credit. We purchased 2 soda packages for the kids and wished we hadn't bothered as they never took our card from us when we ordered soft drinks only alcohol, when you do order drinks they only require one card for each round. We registered the children for the kids clubs my daughter liked it but wasn't raving about the club liked I hoped but was quite happy to go there most days for things to do and I think she had a good time as far as I could tell. My 12 year old on the other hand wasn't as bothered about the club and only really likes playing football in the ball court. I think he would of liked it more if he was able to sign in and out when he pleased because they did get our permission for him to do this but told him he wasn't able to sign him self out until he had been there 2 hours which seemed like torture to him when he wasn't enjoying the activity. So I think this put him off going as he didn't want to be trapped. They also restrict the time on the Wii consoles which means it's a rush for controllers and not everybody gets to use them . Which some might say is a good thing but Kids do like play consoles. I think on the Royal Caribbean they have more free time and choice from what I can hear if your child like this sort of thing. The sun beds situation I was really pleased with as I had concerns I wouldn't be able to sun bathe very easily. If you get to the beds by 9.30 you can easily get a bed even later if your not fussy about where you park yourself. If you want to be in a sunny spot by the pool I would recommend being out the by 8.30-9am other wise you can pick them up later in the afternoon quite easily as people go off and do other things. The pool attendants are quite hot on making sure people are not leaving towels and then going off for half the day, they only monitor this during peak morning times and leave a sticker on your bed stating the time you need to be back by but they give you an hours grace which I think is quite good. They don't seem to mind if you are minding a couple of beds for other members of your family if they are off on the slides or rope course etc they just don't like it when nobody is there. The Complimentry restaurants we found to be really good, my favourite main dining was the Manhatten the staff were very attentive and seated really quickly, they had a band playing and a dance floor which was used each time we went there. The food was hot and delicious. The taste and Savor was the same menu as the Manhatten but they did change 1 or 2 things each day on the menus as far as I could tell. Taste and Savior seemed nice but a bit more quieter. The garden cafe was great so much choice my husband loved their muesli and giant raspberries each morning, my son and daughter loved their pancake station, they had nice back bacon the British love for breakfast. We didn't really have to much trouble getting a table maybe a couple of times but get a table first then the food and avoid peak times if you don't want the crowds but it's not that bad really. The Entertainment was a little geared up for adults really around the pool and Atrium,Mr sexy legs, the not so newlyweds game show can get quite saucey for little eyes and ears but It was fun to watch and I guess most children are at kids clubs, the cruise director Tyler is very engergetic and makes it really crazy and everybody's up for a good time people of all ages were participating even a 90 year old in the Celebrity dance off. The port calls St Thomas really liked it there, we went on a Zip line excursion really good fun, they have some nice reasonable priced shops in the port and locals were very nice and didn't hassle you. Tortola was unfortunately raining and we didn't have a excursions booked for this day, the day is so short here as the boat docks at 7am and leaves at 3pm so leaves very little time to do much. They have a few shop but they are more expensive gifts that St Thomas. Nauss Bahamas , we did a sting ray and beach day but again because of the port time we couldn't do a great deal. We docked at 12pm by the time we got to the beach at Blue Lagoon it was nearly 2pm, onced we finished our sting ray experience we had time for lunch and about an hour on the beach before we had to get the last boat at 5.15pm. They require you are back on the boat an hour before sail. Overall it was a really good cruise the staff go out if their way to make you have a good time they are all polite and attentive to their customers and I would recommend NCL Escape. Read Less

Norwegian Escape is a very large ship. It was very crowded on this particular cruise. The ship is modern but not elegant. The food was plentiful but of low quality. Meat was mostly chicken and ground beef or stew . Very rare lamb or steak. Almost zero fish. Service in public areas and restaurants was good but horrible in customer relations and future cruises. State rooms were very small and staterooms were not well cleaned . Entertainment was mediocre and there were very few interesting shows. They were crowded though since there were not much choices. The cruise was apparently cheap but every thing on the ship cost money which can add up to a lot. The casino has a modern and nice machines but don't expect to win any money. Odds were apparently fixed to give back the minimum. Embarkation was reasonable. Specialty restaurants had a reduced menus than previous Norwegian ships and the food quality was inferior. This is probably done because most customers have the specialty dining bonus. The main theater seems to have the latest technology but it was small for such a big ship and seats were uncomfortable and small. Roatan island was horrible. Nothing impressive about the ship or the staff. Read Less

We really enjoyed the freestyle cruising. We liked being able to change things up each night. The specialty restaurants were fantastic. We really enjoyed the steakhouse Cagneys. There was lots to do and my young adult children loved the entertainment. Cruise director Tyler was a highlight of the trip. He kept the good times rolling and seemed to be everywhere. Every day and night was filled with activities for anyone. We would definitely recommend this cruise. The private island in Belize was gorgeous. Only complaint was that everything there was costly (drinks and food). All the ship's employees were very friendly and helpful. They kept the ship spotless too. The cabin was narrow but plenty of room for us. There was a big closet that help all of our clothes perfectly. The balcony was spacious too. We spent a lot of downtime just enjoying the view in our PJ's there. Read Less

We were Disney Cruise Line fans, but Disney's pricing has gotten out of line for the value they provide. We decided to give Norwegian a try. We booked a 2 Bedroom Family Villa in the Haven for our Western Caribbean cruise on the Escape. We'd previously been on Disney's concierge level on our last cruise. The Haven on Norwegian is by far the better experience, especially if you have tweens and teens. Our butler and room steward were absolutely wonderful to us the entire cruise. The personal level of attention we received was above and beyond anything we had on Disney. We loved the entertainment on Norwegian - After Midnight and the Brat Pack were both excellent - though the Brat Pack is definitely NOT child friendly. The entire family loved the Escape the Big Top game and had a blast during that. I highly recommend giving that a try - book as soon as you board, because the reservations go quickly. The only complaint that I have about the ship is that the entire Atrium area absolutely reeks of cigarette smoke - it was very noticeable as soon as we boarded. When the Casino is open, it is infinitely worse. This was an extremely poor design choice - the Casino should be walled off to prevent the smoke from leaving. That said, my husband wanted to do some gaming, but the smoke smell kept us both out of the Casino. Read Less

The ship was amazing and soooooo clean! The specialty dining restaurants are unparalleled among the NCL fleet. The embarkation/disembarkation was fine...usual congestion mayhem but we knew the drill and there were no major upsets. Entertainment activities were fun all around for adults, teenagers and kids. The F&B service was extremely attentive. The shore excursions were overpriced and not worth the high price tags. Harvest Caye was divine. Overall, we had a great vacation on the Escape. I just wish that we could have traveled while school was in so that it would not have been so crowded. The congestion really didn't affect us during the specialty dining, entertainment, or excursions...but when it came to the buffet, Harvest Caye, and the pool...it was a mad house. This is not a reflection of NCL in the least as we have teenagers and can not travel during school. I look forward to going back on the ship with just my husband while school is in. Read Less

I received a free cruise offer from a local casino. Offer seemed too good to pass up. Of course, it was too good to be true. The cruise wasn't free. Norwegian charged an administrative fee and I had to pay port fees and taxes. Before the upsells, I was already looking at spending around $600 for my "me plus one" free cruise. Still a great deal and I'm not complaining, but it was not free. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. The ship is huge and beautiful. Felt like 5,000 passengers were on board at the buffet and on the pool deck. We avoided both at all times. Imagine a Caribbean cruise where you have to avoid the pool deck because of overcrowding. There were slides and tubes and water features. We never even got close. We also avoided the ropes course. We did play mini-golf a few times, but unattended kids also ruled that domain. Food was fine. We were unhappy that the only food option after midnight was the pub near the casino. Menu was limited. Burger, fish and chips, fajitas, etc. Highlight of the trip for us was the District Brewhouse. Lots of beer options. Great staff. Fun entertainment. We could also find a seat and a beer there. Overall, we had a terrific time. The crew was friendly and responsive. We avoided the masses when we could, and that caused us to miss a lot of the activities. Nevertheless, we would sail again on the Escape. Read Less

We chose the NCL Escape having been on it once before. I like the "newness" of the ship, and the vast array of things to do on board. The Embarkation went quickly and smoothly. The disembarkation was more of a "hassle" but it took no more than 20 minutes total so no complaints. We had a balcony cabin on the 13th floor that had a nice large corner balcony. However, once we had boarded the ship and were in our cabin, it had a terrible odor (fumes) of a turpentine like smell due to some repair work that had been done. The ship was virtually full and they had to move our cabin and also the people in the cabin next to us to another location. While we received another balcony room on another floor, (a much smaller balcony and the bed not near the balcony door like our original room). We were unable to get into our original room all week, but not for their lack of trying. There were at least four different people who worked diligently each day trying to get the odor out of the room to no avail. And Yes, on the very last day, they succeeded which was too bad for us but good for the next group of cruise passengers. While still not happy about the cabin, I felt that the NCL staff went over and above trying to solve the issue. Our first room Steward really went over and above in her effort to try and get us back into our room and she was ever so nice. Our second room steward in room # 2 was more reserved but very competent. We had a great time on board and dined at Cagney's 4 nights, at Moderno one night and at O Sheehan's two nights. We ate at Margaritaville 3 or 4 times and the Staff at Margaritaville are really Great! The staff at Cagney's were also wonderful. Cagneys and Margaritaville were obviously our favorite places to dine. We paid for the Thermal Spa and enjoyed getting away from the throngs of people on such a large ship and it was well worth the money if you like to quietly relax away from it all. The Thermal spa price on this ship does cost more than the thermal spa on the smaller, older NCL ships. We did frequent the casino and as others have said very smokey. They allow smoking and it is supposed to only be for gamblers but there are still people who just sit next to you to smoke several cigarettes before moving on. We did not win anything on this ship and the machines seemed tighter than the usual tightness of casinos on board cruise ships. It was still fun. As far as children go, we did not sit on deck, we went to specialty restaurants for the most part, and we hung out at the thermal spa so we did avoid the most frequented "child" spots. We thought that for cruising during the summer, that NCL does a very good job at keeping the kids on board active and engaged in activities. Yes we would do it all again and in fact, we are going again on the Escape next month! Read Less

I was traveling with a girl friend and we are in our early 70's. This was my 38 Cruise and 3 have been on NCL. The food and service were excellent and their Garden Cafe buffet was one of the best I have experienced on a mass market ship. We ate in Cagney's, Teppanyaki and La Bistro and all our meals in the specialty restaurants were good. They have so many complimentary restaurants with excellent food you won't miss too much skipping their speciality restaurants and will save yourself a lot of money. We never ate in the MDR because their smaller dining rooms Taste and Savor were more intimate and we felt like we were dining in a small elegant restaurant - we loved it. They also have the same menu as the MDR. Taste and Savor must be a well kept secret and most passengers might think they are speciality restaurants and always go to the MDR. We never had to wait for a table and it's a nice dining experience with incredible service. The ships pools are much too small for the number of passengers on the ship so I stayed far away from the pool areas. The Atrium always had activities and their entertainment, music and group games and family activities were excellent. I would suggest you get to the Atrium early for their scheduled activities because seating is at a premium. The staff puts up additional folding chairs but there is never enough chairs and a lot of people have to stand. Don't let this stop you from going to the Atrium their games were so funny I laughed until I cried. Tyler the Cruise Director Tyler goes around the clock and keeps everyone hopping! Book your shows before getting on the ship because their reservations fill up quickly. You will never be bored on this ship and it certainly is the perfect Escape! Read Less

I was originally going to take this cruise last summer, but the day before I was to leave, my mother, who has Alzheimer's, had a stroke, so I had to cancel. History almost repeated itself two days before this sailing, so you can imagine my stress, and then relief when things worked out and I could go. Thank you to Deepak, the hotel manager, and the senior officers who went above and beyond hosting our Meet and Mingle in the District Brew House.. Rommel, Vinnie, and Rommel, the bartenders of Vibe, became like our family, and brought 15 of us who were strangers together like their family; they are the best bartenders onboard, in my opinion. From the spa, Olivia, Jeanelle, and the acupuncture doctor are miracle workers/healers; I had the Elemis Seaweed Wrap, acupuncture, and pedicure/manicure. Great job, Brat Pack. I admire and appreciate that the captain made an itinerary change for safety and out of respect for what the folks in Tortola were facing following a bad storm. Room steward Alfredo (who covered 15156) is a wonderful ambassador for NCL. There was so much fun and so many activities onboard that everyone found things they loved, and yet no one could possibly do everything in just a week. The wait staff in the restaurants were phenomonal, especially Matteos in Le Bistro. Tyler, Jackie, and JoJo were hysterical and welcoming. I can not thank the Escape officers, crew, and staff enough for this life-changing vacation. May God bless them always. Read Less

Beds had no fitted sheets, bottom sheet to short, found myself on bare mattress on several occasion. Also no mattress covers on bed. comforter under duvet had not been washed, edges were brown and disgusting. Several times comforter slipped from duvet and came in contact with my face. Music extremely loud and uncomfortable. Had to leave in order to protect myself from hearing loss. Music loud in all venues and bars. Could not attend sail away party. Music and speakers screamed and were very loud! Food was extremely salty causing it to be un-edible, when I complained, they said they had to cater to the taste of 4700 passengers. I was in a party of 9 people, and they all complained of the salty food. Second to last night I ordered a beet salad which was crunchy because of the kosher salt they put in it. I noticed my hands and feet were very swollen during the entire trip. I suggested they not salt the food so much and let the passengers salt their own, but they said it could not be done. In the main dining room I had to return my salad and main entree at least 3 times because of the amount of salt in the food. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. Common areas on the ship are too small to fit 4700 passengers. Theater also too small. Shows booked up fast, hard to access shows I wanted to see. Children had a great time. Youth programs were wonderful. MY grandkids enjoyed the rope course and slides. Common areas were generally clean. Cabin steward went out of his way to accommodate me. There is a charge for the arcade rooms and fancy Read Less
