Love NCL. Family loves to travel in the Haven. Beautiful ship. Fantastic staff. From the moment we arrived at the pier every employee had a smile and was eager to get our vacation under way. We were on the ship in less than 45 minutes. We were in a 2 bedroom villa, room was beautiful, clean. Chris our butler helped us unpack right away and we were off having a drink and lunch before 1:00pm! The shows were great especially Choir of man! Unbelievable talent. After Midnight was very good also. Plenty of activities if you want, plenty of quite also. Therma Spa was nice and relaxing. Gym had plenty of equipment. Slides are fun... Howl at the moon wasn’t as good as it has been in the past. Cagneys was a bit disappointing. Moderno, Margaritaville,Food Republic & Tempanaki all excellent.... Our staff at the Haven I cannot compliment enough. Read Less

we booked the escape a week and a half before the cruise and we did not know what to expect. Some of our friends loved the ship others hated it. SURPRISE we loved it. SO much to do on this ship much more than its sister ship breakaway. We love dancing and every night we danced from 7 till 11 without stopping. There are 4 bands on the ship all great they took turns playing. They were all great but we especially loved the Funky Duo and the Classic Tones. There was all kinds of music we love Latin dancing and we were not disappointed. There were two shows you had to reserve ahead of time the Choir of Men which was excellent so much fun and After Midnight which was also great. There are comedians in Levity make sure to reserve the shows as soon as you get on the ship so you don't have to wait in stand by lines. There are the dueling pianos on every other nights instead of the comedians. Then there is the Supper Club ;presenting different fun acts most of the time it is free so again sign up the first day if you think you might be interested. We actually just showed up before the shows started and sat in the back and just watched the shows. So much to do on this ship. Only disadvantages were the H2O which is outside and in bad weather was pushed into a smaller area inside and the fact that the Atrium not a humongous space was used for many acitiviies lots of noise and kids when the material is adult material. Food was very good. We love the fact that O'Sheehan's Bar and Grill is open till 4AM. Overall a wonderful experience Read Less

I just came back from the March 31st sailing from NY to the Bahamas and had a wonderful time on the beautiful Escape. I booked just a week in advance for a guarantee balcony (last minute deal) and lucked out with the aft balcony 12908, next to a Haven cabin. My new Platinum status came with all sort of perks that make me feel like a VIP. I arrived at the terminal at 10:38 and was able to check in immediately as Group 1 and boarded the ship by 11 am. After lunch, I went to the Supper Club and made the show reservations. I also went to CruiseNext desk to book the Behind the Scenes tour (very informative) for Platinum members which took place at 9:15 am the very next day. I saw 2 separate Supper Club shows (Comedian/Magician and Rocketman) and had 2 separate dinner menus. I also booked the Escape to the Big Top which is very challenging. One 1 out of the 10 teams was able to solve the puzzle with a minute left on the clock. I loved the Choir of Men show, saw it twice, enjoyed the choreography of After Midnight and it was fun to listen to Dueling Pianos (come early to grab seats). I then went to the Comedy Club to make the reservations for my 2 free specialty dinners (remember to grab the coupons to bring to dinner). Had a free bottle of wine with the Le Bistro dinner. The cabin was ready by 1:30 and had the free sparkling wine and water as my Platinum perks. Chocolate covered strawberries were delivered later that afternoon. I also received petit fours when we were in Nassau. I had fun on the water rides and the ropes course. Played Bocce for the very first time. Food at the buffet was decent too. We ate there for both the Seafood Night and the Oriental Night. Also had 2 types of wings at O'Sheehans. Had a great server Danilo at the Savor who was very attentive and serve our food promptly with no long waits in between. The game shows at the Atrium is always crowded so come early if you want a seat. The audience participation was wonderful so the shows were fun to watch. I stayed on the ship when we arrived at Port Canaveral to enjoy the activities onboard since I've been to the Kenneday Space Center. We didn't dock at Great Stirrup Cay due to high wind and arrived at Nassau instead by 1 pm. I signed up for the Atlantis Beach break and had a great time touring the resort, seeing the Big Dig aquarium and enjoying the waves at Atlantis Beach (paid $20 for a beach umbrella so bring some cash). On the next day, we paid $30/person for the 2.5 hour taxi tour around the island. We went to Fort Fincastle, Queen's Staircase, Fort and Beach Montague (calm beach) and instead of Atlantis, saw Cabbage Beach (beautiful but very high waves) instead. Afterwards, we walked around town for some shopping and also did the 15 minute walk to Junkanoo Beach (rocky in certain spots so need water shoes). On the final morning, we had a leisurely breakfast at Savor. Then played ping pong until our tag color was called. We had the Red tag and it took an hour to finally leave the ship and clear customs (lined up at 10 and exited by 11) . I think the aft exit might have a shorter wait since they don't have as much distance to walk. All in all, it was a great cruise and I would love to come back to the Escape again. Bought more CruiseNext certificates to apply toward future cruises. Read Less

Our first NCL cruise was on the Pride of America and I was really disappointed in the ship, the tiny staterooms, and the food. The ports made it worthwhile - but it left a bad taste in my mouth regarding NCL. However, my experience on the ESCAPE left me wanting more..... Let me start by saying that we were able to upgrade to a Haven spa suite from a large balcony stateroom. The Haven really does make for an incredible experience. Dining:The Haven restaurant was wonderful and the food was always hot with excellent flavors and presentation. The hostess knew us by name and always tried to get us a window seat as she knew that we preferred one. The waitstaff in the haven went out of their way to be accommodating. We never wanted for anything, in fact one night I was hungry for french onion soup and they went to the Bistro to get it for us. The only drawback is that the menu does not change, but with other dining venues available it is not a huge problem. We didn't really use our butler because we just didn't need to. One morning we did get a room service breakfast (price included in the haven and it was hot and delicious) The concierge and his assistant went out of their way to help us, we had to reschedule Cagneys 3 times and they did it gladly. Cagneys was one of the best meals that we have ever had on a cruise ship. We were not impressed with Teppanyaki, the food was tasteless. The table show was only adequate. We have had much better Japanese experience on land. Personally, I wouldn't waste my time or money. Food Republic was ok, but very expensive for what you got. The bill adds up very quickly and several times we had to ask where our food was because it never came. Moderno was quite good and the salad bar was especially nice. La Cucina was ordinary and nothing really special. We did not eat at the buffet so I cannot speak to that. Stateroom: Haven spa suite - very nice room, plenty of space and amazing shower. the balcony was very small, but with access to the Haven sun deck it was not really a problem. Activities: Plenty of shows and other activities, we did not even come close to sampling all that there was available. Cons: due to the beverage package being offered as a promotion for many that booked the cruise, by evening there were a lot of tipsy people. Also, the smoke in the atrium area is horrible from the casino. I am highly sensitive to smoke and it was a real problem for me, I wasn't able to shop without it wafting in the shops and the headliner club just wreaked of smoke because of its proximity to the casino. Bottom Line: It was a great cruise and I can't wait to go again. Read Less

Definitely recommend getting the drink package. From the Pussers painkillers to all the top shelf alcohol you cant go wrong. The food was delicious with so many choices and no structured dining format it made a more relaxing vacation. The entire cruise staff were warm welcoming and accommodating, especially Garfield from the Savor restaurant I give him Two thumbs up. Garfield has a great outgoing personality so much so that you feel like your talking to a friend when hes around. Another amazing experience was with Boris and SJ and the experienced staff in the art gallery. Our cabin was maintained by Jerome who was awesome very pleasant and attentive to all our concerns. I would recommend NCL to my friends and anyone looking for an amazing cruise Read Less

A fun and relaxing cruise. There is so much to do each day that I missed some activities...so much to do, so little time. I liked reading on deck with drink in hand. Never had an issue finding a place to lounge on deck or by the pool. I heard the ship was full but it really didn’t seem that way. I never felt crowded, other than after the safety drill. Never waited for a reservation for restaurants or shows. I ate at all the specialty restaurants. Actually liked lacucina and tappenayke the best! Cagney’s rib steak was fatty with lots of fiber running through it. It was also raw in the middle (I asked for med-rare). The mature D offered to bring me something else and apologized. But I declined and went for the dessert. Bayamo was good, had the lobster, but service was slow. Apps and dessert were excellent! The main dining rooms were also very good! Loved breakfast at taste and savor! I would get a window table have a leisurely breakfast and read my book. Oh! Margaritaville was awesome! Great fish tacos! Traditional key lime pie! Also it was inexpensive! It was getting windy and I must have looked cold. The restaurant manager came over with a soft blue blanket and wrapped it around me. I was so impressed by this!! Excursions: did blue lagoon in Nassau. It was very nice but 5 ships were in port! It was a madhouse getting to the boat!! Very disorganized!! I left the island early to avoid the rush back to the ship. GSC was just wonderful. Lots of room and plenty of lounge chairs. That was very organized! Port Canaveral I didn’t get off the ship. Nothing to do there that interests me and the stay too short to do Disney or universal. They should have 12 hrs at the port. Service was impeccable! A little issue with customer service removing a double charge, but the hotel director corrected it immediately. Everyone is so friendly. My housekeeper was magical! The room was always clean, made up and bed turned down at night, and I never saw her! But left her a nice tip. I had a balcony near the aft elevators...great location! Read Less

We chose this cruise because we love the itinerary and wanted to try the Norwegian Escape. We have done two cruises on the Dawn and six on the Gem. There were almost twice as many passengers aboard than what we were used to. Things moved along at the NYC terminal very quickly to our surprise. It was a bit intimidating doing the muster drill in the atrium due to the crowds and it was quite warm. There was an adjustment period the first day because of the pool and restaurants being on different decks than we were used to. By the next morning we began our love affair with the Escape. Three main complementary dining rooms and a very nice area on deck 17 is call Spice H20 which is great for reading on the loungers and relatively quiet. There is also a huge movie screen that shows films under the stars on a few nights. The food was superior to the other Norwegian ships we've cruised with previously. Every member of the crew was friendly and greeted us with a smile. Read Less

My daughter and family booked the cruise first, We wanted to join them and got an excellent price with free gratuities through our travel agency. My grand daughter has severe food allergies and my daughter and all were extremely worried about this at first. However we appreciated the concern and compassionate attention we received regarding this very serious condition. They assured us that the ship has a separate kitchen and all of her foods were prepared in a nut and sesame free environment. Since we are Platinum members we especially enjoy the perks we receive with that level.I think NCL does a fantastic job in the entertainment department as well. We typically cruise to relax, and found the Escape a bit crowded compared to the Jade class ships. We missed the lido area toward the back, Even though H2O is there, it is not as convenient to Garden cafe for early morning breakfast which we really enjoy. Read Less

Love NCL this is my 3rd cruise in 3 years NCL never dissappoints. Ship was splendid, food was fabulous and the service was impeccable. Our balconey room was comfortable and clean. Only complaint is there are not many areas for smokers, heard many customer complaints. Main dining room service and food was great loved le Bistro was however dissappointed with Bayamo, after waiting all week to celebrate the cruise final night, food delivered to the table was not what was described on the menu. We paid upcharge ahead of time only to have them refund to my onboard acct then they charge you again when dining, we were not informed of this. Took 3 excursion booked on ship, the trip to cocoa beach was terrible, NCL just handles the transfer but it is nothing but a tourist trap. Nassau Blue Lagoon was over crowded with 4 ships in port, it was crowded, no chairs, ran out of food and drink which was included, NCL island was great but tender transfer a little difficult. I always travel NCL and always will, I feel you get 5 star treatment, great service food and entertainment. We loved the Escape and will travel on this ship again if given the opportunity. Read Less

This was our 8th NCL cruise, but first time staying in The Haven. We choseThe Haven to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. Usually we stay in a balcony, so this was a splurge for us. Unfortunately we are now spoiled! The Haven is worth every extra penny that it costs. Just to list a few perks of The Haven: - At embarkation, our concierge was waiting in a special lounge to escort us on to the ship. We were among the first to get on the ship. We were offered burger sliders for lunch as well as a special lunch in La Cucina. - Our butler brought snacks every afternoon: a plate of cookies for my son, finger sandwiches for me and something sweet for my husband. - The pool in The Haven can get a little loud and the hot tubs can be taken over by children. However, there is an adults only sun deck with a Jacuzzi that was absolutely perfect. An attendant regularly brought drinks and checked to see if there was anything we needed. We were going to buy Vibe passes, but are so glad we didn't. It would have been a waste as everything we needed was in The Haven. - THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO CHAIR HOGGING. My husband can't stand this and it's one of the main reasons we chose The Haven. The Haven was completely sold out for our sailing, so there were a lot of people. But always plenty of space wherever you wanted to sit. - The bartender in The Haven was phenomenal! He could make anything!! And he really tried to understand your tastes and mood, so he could make the perfect cocktail just for you. He was always very accommodating and patient with all the children wanting specialty drinks. He was a saint! - There was reserved seating in the theater for The Haven. My son showed up 5 minutes before The Choir of Man and was seated right away. - Unlimited free Pay Per View Movies in the room - You have a walky-talky phone that you can take with you anywhere on the ship, and anyone can just call your room to reach you. In hindsight, we probably didn't need the communication package because of this. - Disembarkation took less than 5 minutes. We were escorted by our concierge to a crew elevator from The Haven lounge that went directly to the gangway. Our concierge held the line so that we could walk directly off the ship. I could go on and on about The Haven. NCL works really hard to make this a special experience. I know everyone can't afford to stay there (I know we can't for every cruise!), but hopefully this gives some insight if you're considering The Haven. Now I want to give some opinions about the other parts of the ship. As I mentioned this was our 8th cruise with NCL. I have also sailed with Carnival twice. IMHO Carnival has a better kids program. My son is 12. On NCL, he is grouped with 10-12. He absolutely refused to go to the kids club based on these ages. Why would a middle schooler want to be with elementary aged children? NCL then groups 13-17 together. Again IMHO, 13 is way to young to be hanging around with a 17 year old. On Carnival, the age groupings are much more appropriate. They group 12-14 and then 15-17. These ages can come and go from the program as they please on Carnival. On NCL, a 12 year old can leave on their own only after staying 2 hours. My son has still stayed in contact with friends that he met on the Carnival ships in their youth programs from over a year ago. This is a big miss on NCL's part and they really should reconsider their age groupings. Another issue is the specialty dining. Because NCL is now offering so many dining packages, these specialty restaurants aren't really that special anymore. They were loud and crowded and service was about the same as the main dining room. In Moderno, we actually left before the end of our meal because of a loud large party with young children literally running around the dining room. This didn't use to be the case years ago in these specialty restaurants. They used to be special, quiet places to go and have an intimate evening. I think the maître d' could do a better job of managing the restaurant in these cases. We did one excursion through NCL to the Orlando Eye and wax museum. Generally, excursions through the boat are crowded and overpriced. I can honestly say that I have never had an excellent shore excursion experience booked through the ship. You're better off doing your research on Trip Advisor and finding something perfect for you. That being said, sometimes the logistics require you to book through the ship (Port Canaveral / Orlando is one example). Special Tips: - Don't miss Food Republic, especially if you like sushi. I think this place is underrated because there is an up-charge, but it is excellent. We saw more crew staff eating here than anywhere else on the ship. There's a reason why. - If you don't already know, please book your dining and entertainment reservations before you get on the boat. Again, people complain that everything is booked and unavailable. "Your failure to plan is not my problem." - Consider the port that your boat sails from. I love the sailings from New York because the boat is packed with people from New York. I just love all the bold, lively personalities. I've also done sailings from Miami, for example. The "personality" of the boat is very different. Same for New Orleans and LA. I love NCL and will stick with this line. There are so many special touches that people don't notice or appreciate - like the singing muffin ladies in the morning. I love the freestyle cruising to be able to do what I want when I want. I love the different areas of the ship. But these are big ships, they carry a lot of people. Make sure you consider that before you book. One final note: a lot of people complain about the nickel and diming on NCL. I don't agree. When you pay the cruise fare with NCL you get a great value. Do your research - their prices are very comparable, if not better, for what you get. Now this is part of freestyle cruising: when you get on the boat, you can spend as much or as little as you like. You do what you want when you want. People expect to pay a value priced cruise fare and then be given the world in return. Yes - you have to pay to bowl. Yes - you have to pay to paint. But there is plenty of food, on a beautiful ship. There is always live music and something fun (and free) to do. NCL let's you decide how much you want to pay and what you want to do, and when you want to do it. As with most things in life, you get what you pay for. THANK YOU NCL and all of your FABULOUS CREW MEMBERS for making our family vacation truly exceptional!!! Read Less
