Let me preface this by saying I am usually a glass half full kind of person. I grew up without a lot so appreciate the little things in life and understand the value of a dollar. With that being said, I have never cruised before and probably never will after this experience. Too many people and not enough space. Getting on the boat was a nightmare 1 hour and 45 minute wait in line with bags in hand. The terminal is filthy. Then our rooms weren't ready so we sat outside on the cold deck with hundreds of others in 12 degree weather. I didn't realize we had other options on other floors to sit inside. My room was not vacuumed and Legos were on the floor. The mirrors had spots all over them. I cleaned the room before I unpacked. Very annoying after being cold and tired. During the remainder of the week things seemed to stay the same. Not enough chairs and crowded hot tubs, pool and activities. We were off the boat a total of 10 hours in 7 days. One short stop to Coco beach and one to Belmora island. I was ready to pull my hair out. We were unable to tender to Great Stirrup Cay which I understand is not the ships fault exactly, but from my research this happens often. Why advertise if it's a 50/50 chance the boat will stop? Our boat to Belmora island was in shambles and the island was disgusting with garbage and litter all over. Don't even get me started on the "luxury cabanas", it's embarrassing to advertise them as such. I wonder when the last time the pools at this place were cleaned. Getting off the boat was the best/easiest part. The sad part of all of this...my husband is 16 years in the Navy and coming up on a deployment and will be away from our family for the next 9 months or so. This was our last vacation before he leaves. I'm crushed. We tried to make the most of it but unfortunately it just wasn't feasible and we are cranky and tired from the whole experience. Read Less

This was part of back to back cruises. There was an outbreak of Neuro Virus on the cruise before. At check in they continuously gave false info kept people waiting for hours overloading the terminal. They never said outright at terminal there was an outbreak. They did not give us option to cancel at pier and get money back. When on board we called NCL and my agent called NCL. They refused to offer us a thing. The ship was a complete mess Everything was cleared away. No menus on bars no spa no vacuum for a week. Service was just absolutely awful and NCL just has terrible customer relations and just don't care. Other cruise lines that had this kind of outbreak offered you option to not sail and refund your money or sail get partial money back and large discounts on next cruise On top of that right while we were sailing they removed tons of drinks from the menu and made their prices outrageous You now have to buy a premium drinks package above the regular one at $35 a day to cover it. That was not available yet. The only thing was after a wrote a stinging not to hotel director did customer service supervisor do something for me on second part of cruise. The Epic just had a crash and NCL refused to give any money back. Only 50% off on next cruise. This CEO is really something. No customer relations at all. They just don't care about anything or anybody. Read Less

Our cruise left a lot to be desired. We are platinum members of ncl and this cruise was my 16th cruise and the worst, maybe even my last. We arrived at terminal 11:30am. As platinum we should have priority boarding .. We did not ...in fact, when we asked about it we were asked..."are you haven?" we said, "no, we are platinum"  she smerked, "only haven is priority". That turned out to be the theme of our cruise, that AND the ship was filthy, full of airborne sickness and the crew was angry We sat and waited for over 4 hours packed in the terminal with over 4k other people. The ship was quarantined due to a bug effecting over 300 staff and/or passengers. We were not told this until after we were on the ship!!! We were not able to leave and rebook! We were not given a choice. Nope we were forced to embark on a journey trapped with an airborne and contact virus that could cause fatality in the elderly or immunocompromised. Once onboard, the rooms were unavailable for about 4 move hours with passengers standing with their carry on baggage or sitting on the stairways and such. eerie, quite, cold, and none of the staff smiling, as they were clearly exhausted from the previous cruise and seemed to be angry that "we were now there". When the rooms were said to be available they were filthy, yes clearly unvacuumed, with smudged mirrors, walls and doors and oh yes the sheets weren't changed on the bed in our mini suite. Yes, that's what over $6,000 before service charges and excursions got us. It was not only our cabin --it was all over the ship. The walls were dripping with sanitizer water. You could not touch anything. Every surface was dripping. Lines to customer service were very long; even at midnight people were complaining that they did not have their cabins cleaned and their bed were still upside down. Several of the crew were running around with breathing masks wiping walls and your door and handles leaving them dripping and wet. With a foul smelling disinfectant while passengers were forced to tolerate the breathing conditions with nothing. We did nothing at the first port due to late departure from ny it was supposed to be 3pm and we left at 7pm. Many brands of drinks were removed from the so called ultimate drinking package. The communication from the management was tight lipped and unavailable. From their own customer service people, "the home office is aware of the problem and has given us no answer". The food was warm to cold when served. Very bland and constantly the same. The worst food of any vacation ever. Passengers were not allowed to touch anything in the restaurants or buffett unless it was handed to us. Lines, lines and more lines. Angry, pushy staff constantly yelling about watching our handwashing and constantly trying to spray us with their mixture instead of letting us use the gel. I had to try and comfort a fellow guest who was literally shaking after being chased by a crew member because she didn't want to be sprayed. We were treated like we brought a plague on the ship, when in reality, they withheld the fact that the ship was contagious until after we were at sea giving us no way to back out of the cruise as we had insurance for cancellation. I don't know how that was even legal. Except for one comedian and the choir of men, the entertainment was awful and the only show that we booked prior to cruising (the brat pack) was canceled. The onboard activities were mediocre at best. The debarkation was just as awful as getting on the cruise. The ship had to be steamed/fogged due to the norovirus so we had to get out of our rooms early and stand around for hours so they could be ready for the next cruise. My husband and i became sick that first night home and for six days after from the recirculated air on the ship full of bacteria and germs. Who knows what all the sprays and disinfectants along with the germs being recirculated throughout the ship did to us. We had paid for insurance, but they made sure we couldn't use it by not telling us until we were at sea. So disappointed in ncl. Will think about this awful experience when booking our next cruise. Not even a follow up apology or credit on for a future cruise. Are we a valued customer? Guess not. Why does ncl have a loyalty program when they are not loyal to us? Does ncl read these reviews or pay attention to the ones we took the time to fill out for them post cruise? We haven't heard a peep from ncl. I heard jim cramer say ncl was a stock worth buying because the ceo said he had great things planned for the future and it made me more excited for the cruise. I guess i learned my lesson about loyalty programs, they only care about the haven now. New people, double the money, but i think ncl will be sad to learn that those people will expect return loyalty as well by the time ncl sees that,we will switch cruise lines. Read Less

Ship was 3 1/2 hours late boarding and departing. No explanation was given in the terminal. NCL didn't offer anything while thousands of people just stood around (no seating available). Could have at least had a bottle of water or a snack. Had to sanitize because people were sick on the previous cruise. The ship was dirty when we boarded. Our cabin was filthy with dirt on the floor and a layer of dust on everything. it wasn't cleaned until day 12 of the two week cruise. The cabin was small. We could barely get our bags in the closet. No table in front of the sofa. Small veranda with two non-reclining seats and a 1 sqft table. Small bath. I could barely move in the shower without bouncing off the walls, and I am not big. Several entertainment events were cancelled. Deck activities were not available for the first week. Food was very low end, unless you pay extra for the specialty restaurants. No quiet relaxing place anywhere on the ship. All places were completely disorganized and extremely slow. it took over an hour to get a bagel for breakfast. Crew, while not overly rude, were far from polite. Fitness center never had any towels. Two days the doors were closed with people standing outside waiting for them to open. An officer walked right through without saying a word and never came back to open the doors. Finally we just opened the doors ourselves and went in. They continued to sanitize for the entire cruise. That is good, except the chemicals were very irritating. About 1/2 the passengers were constantly coughing. And since they never cleaned anything, the dirt and dust made it worse. The entertainment was so-so. Two of the comedians were good. For the main show, After Midnight, many people either walked out or wanted to leave. The bands seemed to be competing for the greatest vol. They were so loud they were painful. It was impossible to hold a conversation whenever they were playing, either in the atrium or on the deck. That made it even louder with everyone yelling at each other over the sound of the music. Tobacco road stunk up the entire deck. The smoke odor was so strong we had to leave the game area there. We could even smell smoke on our deck 14 veranda (possibly from someone smoking in their room). Restrooms were never attended and almost constantly dirty. Read Less

I am a platinum member, but after this cruise I am not going with NCL anymore. They had gastrointestinal virus outbreak on cruise before us, we weren’t informed until we got to the port. 5000 people were standing and waiting for check in to start until 3 pm, rooms were not ready for another hours. People were sitting on the floor and staircases. And it’s only beginning. All cruise was a disaster. NCL upper managers don’t care about their guests. They didn’t have enough crew members to serve guests. Absolutely total mismanagement. But I must say our Stuart did a great job. He was great. Service in specialty restaurants was good, but in complimentary restaurants below average. Entertainment below, below average, Nothing to do on the ship. Such a disappointment. Waist of money and vacation. First time we could not wait to get out of ship. Nothing more to say. Read Less

We arrived at the cruise port in New York City just after 10:30 AM, People were left standing for hours to check in and get on board. We finally got on board after 3:00 PM. We were told that our rooms were not ready yet and had to wait. around 4:30 they finally said that the staterooms on our deck were ready. We went to our cabin to find that it still was not ready, we had to look for a room steward just to get toilet paper. Our luggage still did not arrive so we waited and waited. At 1:00 AM another passenger told us that we would have to look for our luggage somewhere on our deck. I found our luggage way down the hall, they just left our luggage where ever they could, we had to search for it ourselves. We found out that the cruise before us had a virus on board, so now we were subject to chemicales for the whole trip, they were spraying and wiping the walls, doors, door handles, elevators, rest rooms. What ever was sprayed or wiped was left driping wet. They had people in hazmat suites and masks mixing the chemicales in the halls, all passengers were subject to the chemicals. The staff on the ship were taken from their usual tasks to help with the spraying and wiping, so the passangers were short changed, there were days when our room was not made untill after 5:00 PM. The ship has to many people and was poorly managed, it was very loud and has no place outside of your cabin for peace and quiet. Dining was short changed with not enough help and a menu that had very little changes. The buffet was just ok nothing to write home about where it was often hard to find a seat and then you were sitting on top of one another. When we disembarked from the ship they called our color and had us wait in line outside in the cold untill we got into customs where there was another long line. Getting off the ship took over two hours. Standing in that long line you knew they just wanted every one off the ship for their convenience and without regard for the customers. Read Less

I am platinum latitude member and it was my 9th cruise. And it was the worse cruise I have ever had. I will try to tell you why…. The embarkation was total chaos. They postponed it for 3 hours. It started only at 1 pm. It looked like 4,000 passengers were trapped in a single terminal room without water and poor air. There were a lot of old people and a couple of them fainted. Having so many people in one room could have been deadly in an emergency. It was very different just to walk into the ship: Quite and cold, unwelcome, none of the staff cheering, laughing, and no washi-washi songs. They were clearly exhausted from the previous cruise. People were moving slowly in complete silence. When they finally admitted us to the ship, cabins were not ready. Beds were upside down, dirty cabins, showers with hair on the floor. It was not only our cabin --it was all over the ship. The crew were washing every wall, elevator, railings, and buttons, everywhere. The walls were dripping with sanitizer water. You could not touch anything. Every surface was dripping. Lines to customer service were very long; even at midnight people were complaining that they did not have their cabins cleaned and their bed were still upside down. They did not vacuum our cabins or any floors until the last day of the cruise. We had to wipe the dust, hair, and filth off our feet before climbing into bed each night. In the cafe: we were not allowed to touch anything. They handed us plates and silverware, cups, etc. We had to be served all food and drinks. This caused long lines everywhere and a lot of anger. The salt and pepper shakers ketchup, mustard disappeared from the tables. To get it you had to stay on line again. To get tea, juice, or water – stay on line. To use the same plate or cup was not allowed. All cushions were removed from the seats. In the lounges, people were sitting or lying on bare foam for the first week of the cruise. Seat covers did not begin to be replaced until the second week. Some were never replaced. People were not allowed to get to the cafe without washing hands before entering the café (which is a good safety measure at any time). They also started a mandatory announcement from the CDC three times a day during the whole cruise, up until the last three days. It was very annoying, but also very instructional. We learned that the CDC requires this level of response for up to three days after the last case of disease. Since they made this announcement and kept up the strict hospital situation until three days before our return that means there were continual outbreaks of disease throughout OUR cruise, even though the announcement said there was a problem ONLY on the last cruise. Library and spa were closed almost all the cruise. Fridges in mostly of cabins were locked, no coffee machine in the room, no glasses for water, nothing. At every meal at the restaurant chairs and tables were moved to the side for disinfectant (my daughter took a video where people in hazmat suits rushed disinfect a contaminated table). Men with air masks all over the ship spraying something in the cabins. They pulled large fogging machines to fill rooms with mist disinfectant. This covered all our belongings. Many passengers claimed they could not stay in their rooms because of the smell. In every port, passengers were not allowed to get in and out of the ship without spraying sanitizer on their hands. The crew was overwhelmed, and we learned many staff were quarantined due to illness. The passengers were also overwhelmed and not happy… Disembarkation: they accumulated people in the restaurant area and halls and kept them there for 2 hours as well. This is typical, however. I think the New York terminal has more problems than any other. I am actually surprised that there is no information about how awful was this particular cruise…. Read Less

I understand how a norovirus can happen aboard a huge ship like this. But, I want to say we were not informed until days later what was happening. This was our 33 cruise and we could see signs of something going on. Paper menus, no salt shakers or silverware on tables. Excessive cleaning. We were “unable” to tender into our second port for so called choppy seas. It was glasslike out there. The consensus was they didn’t want us in port or we had to get some more distance so it was too late to turn back. As the days went on it was worse. We saw two people put into ambulances in two different ports. We stayed in our room. I feel Ncl did not inform us in a timely manner. They told the next sailing they left late because of fuel issues. Blatantly lied to them. Our steward was not allowed to vacuum our room or give us ice. So we missed a port, had to stay in our room, cleaning fumes were so excessive all over. We could get no information. Three doors down there was a medical emergency and there were many officers standing in the hallway. They were so rude when we tried to get into our room. Telling us sarcastically nothing is happening. Mind your own business. I feel it was our business as we were sharing room stewards with that room. All in all, a terrible experience. And in debarkation there was nearly a riot. Screaming, passengers because we were waiting for hours to get off. The process was so terrible. I’ve been on 33 cruises. Never complained. We Generally get a haven suite, we’ve had the owners suite, but on Norwegian it’s not worth it. So this time we didn’t. They should have been honest with us so we could protect ourselves early on. After 10+ cruises with them I don’t think I want to patronize them any more. They offered not even one free drink to anyone. It does not pay to be loyal to them. We are platinum plus members. We got a bottle of the cheapest champagne and literally 4 chocolate covered strawberries when we arrived. Very cheap. That’s the Norwegian experience. There are other better lines out there. Do you not cruise Norwegian ever! The cruise in itself was completely inflated price wise due to sailing Christmas week. Then you have all these hidden fees that they do not tell you about it. You buy the beverage package would you figure would be free when you get on board. They charge you tax and 20% gratuity on each drink that you have on that ship. This also happens with the food. We did the ultimate beverage package and the ultimate dining package. Beware! The organization was not there at all! To get on the ship was brutal! Did they take you from one holding room to where you think you’re going to get on the ship and put you in a completely different holding room. They have you get tender tickets for the boats to go to their private island and say that you were to be called by number. This is to be done the night before. The day of, they put you all in the grand theater and call you by first come first serve. Took us over two hours to get to the island. Food stops being served at 2 PM. Some people did not even get to the island until after three and you need to be back on the ship by 5 PM. I vacation every three months all over and I will tell you that this was by far not only the most expensive vacation with all the hidden fees but the worst! When we were settling our account the day we left the ship we were told there would be no more charges. The next day there was another withdrawal out of my checking account for an additional $1060! No email accounting of what the charges were for. When I tried to call cannot get anyone on the phone. There is so much more I am leaving out to what I now look back on as a nightmare. And during Christmas too!!! There is too much to write. Norwegian Cruise line is a huge scam! Buyers beware! Read Less

We decided to take this cruise with my family of 4 and my mom and aunt for Christmas. The bartenders and servers were horrible. When you go to the bar they ignore you for 5 mintues while they talk and joke amongst themselves. The servers are only nice if they plan on giving you a customer service card to fill out. This is called gaming the system. Overall when you first board the ship there is no greeting from anyone and also when you disembark they do not say farewell either. The Garden buffet food is totally flavorless and you have to walk around for 10 min to find a seat. We went to see After Midnight, The Brat Pack, and Choir of Men. After Midnight was not good, totally directionless with no storyline, it was pretty sad. The Brat pack was Ok, halfway decent. The Choir of men was entertaining but they were so off key. We ate at The Manhattan room which was like eating Airplane food. Cagney’s steakhouse was good. The steak was not bad. The shore excursion to Stirup Cay was very disorganized to tender off the ship. We had a mini suite with a balcony which was very nice. The shower was huge and we had plenty of hot water. The Wifi is horrible and they dont tell you but you have to log off after every session otherwise your minutes keep running even though you are not using it. The final port of call was Nassau. It didn’t feel very safe there. Very run down and not much to see. I would recommend going to Atlantis instead. We felt like this cruise line nickel and dimes you for everything. This will probably be our last Norweigian cruise. Read Less

We have been using NCL for almost a decade, even had our wedding on Breakaway in 2015, but Escape is same class ship tuned down on interior design. Ship is simple design with no personally, practical floating hotel. We stayed in balcony room with a baby and toddler and it was OK, steward was OK, always busy and barely have time to anyone to talk. Management of the ship was an amazing crew, and anyone under was complete mess. Waiters in restaurants don't know what they doing and would screw up any simple order. Food in restaurants was OK, but buffet food is awful, minimum choices, a lot of cheap meat, no seafood or even NCL signature Norwegian lox. Specialties restaurant's food was amazing, and pricey and will make your wallet cry! In 14 days cruise we had only 2 free show After Midnight, Brat Pack, second one did not made any sense. Choir of Man show, is paid show with prefix dinner setting, was OK. We had one stop cancel due to 2 heliocopter lifts from the ship first two days with no explanation, and remaining stops were simple beach destinations. We end up spending more time on the ship due to cancelled stop, and there is nothing to do there. Kids sevice is ok for 3+ and for baby you have to pay $20 for 1 hour 50 min selected slot time. Overall experience of this cruise, is that NCL is cutting their cost by taking quality out of scope in any possible way they can. NCL becoming low class, no frills cruise line. Based off our last 14 day cruise, we are not coming back with NCL to cruise and will be looking for more classy company to cruise with. Read Less

The good: I’m a Platinum member. I have NEVER posted a negative comment or review. The bad: What a waste of money and vacation days. Service was not there at all. Yes some staff was good but overall it seemed like you were ignored. Food quality dropped 100% since sailing in the summer. Filet mignon in Cagneys had serious fat on it! Gross! Port days were a joke to stay onboard. NOTHING was open and the daily had certain bars, restaurants open at a certain times and they were not. Example was pool bar. 11am turns to 1pm??? The ugly: (1) Private functions. One example was in the district brew house. You are already comfortable and enjoying your beer, book, etc. and you are told “sorry you will not be able to get anything from the bar until the function ends BUT you are welcome to stay. What?? The function was meet the officers which we were invited to but were not there to do. Literally Absurd. (2) Knowing the smoking haters will chime in here please mind your own business as this is not for your information but for anyone that does smoke - don’t bother booking this ship especially because you are treated as an outcast and are discriminated as such. Choose to book elsewhere if you smoke. Our friends were totally disgusted. (3). Children ran amok and parents....oh did they have any? I am out of space so I am done with this write up. Read Less

Adding a few more handicap/special needs rooms should be considered. Room was in need of new mattress and pillows. Tried the cafe a few times but dishes banging from every direction. Announcement should be clearly spoken. Thank you for letting me speak my mind. I do find it helpful to read Cruise Critic. Thank you again Read Less

I've been on over 13 cruises with Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Celebrity and Princess so far. This is the first time we sailed with Norwegian, but I am sorry to say that this cruise experience was the worst one ever. What a waste of our 10th wedding anniversary trip! Embarkation and disembarkation - the previous ship came back 3 hours late and it delayed the checked in process on us. With no announcement and explanation, the check-in counters were closed suddenly. We were supposed to check in at 11:30am, but we ended up sitting on the floor like refugees with no foods, no water till almost 3:00pm. Some staffs in the cruise terminal were kind of rude to us. For disembarkation, it's ridiculous that we've been asked to have color tags on our luggage, but there is no tag available at customer service desk when we went there. Ship - The ship design is good, but the only theater is way too small. We have pre-booked shows, but we couldn't get in and find seats. The celling of restaurants and rooms are too low, it makes people feel so clouded. There are only two swimming pools on this ship. The kids pool is 1.5-1.7M deep, which is too ridiculous and danger for kids to enjoy the pool. Most of times the water slides and pools are closed for maintenance or some unknown reasons. Cabin - rooms is kind of small compare with Royal Caribbean same type of room. The two pull-down beds are kind of inconvenience for us to get on/off the bed. My husband even hatted his head few time on the bed frames. Also, too much stuffs in the mini fridge and we can't put milk or other stuffs for my son. The shelves inside the closet are not really accessible to put our clothes. TV is too small and so limited channel selections. Same show repeated few times a day. When the closet door is open, half of the TV is covered. Dining - foods quality in buffet and dining restaurants are terrible. most of meats are too hard and dry. There are really less variety everyday. Even pizza are dry. We are normally exciting to have dinner in the dining room, but this time we are so disappointed and even skipped half of the dinners during our trip. The median rare steak tasted almost like beef jerk. Hardly any meals are good in the dining restaurants. The only good one that we had good dinner was in O'Sheehan, with the service from Emmanuel Malinga. He is really good to explain the menu and make sure we enjoyed the foods there. Also, 30% of the cups in the Garden Café are dirty. Some still with foods, lip inks and coffee marks in the cups. Entertainment and activities - Out of 4 water slides, 3 of them are closed for maintenance during our trip. There were no water in kids splash zoon. We were trying to exchange clean towels, and there were no clean towels available for the whole afternoon. Shows on the ship are not attracted at all, so boring and feels like only the host and performers enjoyed themselves well. Halloween trick or treat activity for kids was so unorganized with no clear direction, nor fun at all. Rowen from dining restaurants is the only good entertainer and made us smile all the time when we saw him. Service - lots of waiters and waitresses in Garden Café are not working hard as other cruise lines. They don't clean tables faster enough to let the next group of people to eat. We saw dirty dishes on the tables all over. Part of the celling cables behind our table fell down one night when we were having snacks in Garden Café. Someone finally came to check 10 minutes later. On the way sailing back to New York, the ship was shaky for over 24 hours that made my parents, husband, my son and myself all sick and vomiting in the room till the ship finally arrived in New York. The ship left Bermuda 2 hours late and it was trying to speeding up to make it back to New York. I would say the sailing time management is really bad. Because of the sickness, we wasted two days in the room doing nothing during our trip. Overall, it was a terrible cruise experience for all of us. We even decided to cancel the another trip we've booked with Norwegian next year. I don't think any of our family members, nor myself will choose to sail with Norwegian in the future. Read Less

First, I am not loyal to any cruise line. I just like to try different ship especially the newer one. This is my first with Norwegian. I have heard from friends who has been on this ship that were pretty negative. I refuse to believe them. There is no Perfect cruise. Cruise cannot cater to everyone. There will be good and bad experience on all cruise. But Good should Triumph over Bad. Embarkation - was a nightmare. Terminal was packed as the returning cruise arrived very late. At 11 am, passenger were still disembarking. Many people were lined up for check in. All of a sudden they shut down check in without saying a words. There were no announcement on what was going on, until some passenger started asking question. Since then there were frequent announcement. Due to space and fire hazard, the terminal cannot accommodate more passenger and had some type of coast guard drill. They kept suggesting that passenger should leave the terminal and come back in at 2:30 pm. Many passenger eventually left the terminal. I won't explain in detail since the other reviewer KaKelley was right on. The food was terrible. Not much variety and very dry compare to other cruises line which has many variety. One example: everyday they have one type of baked chicken. It looks similar except they change the name. There were about 3 or 4 days where we had same BBQ chicken. I am sure the chef could come up with a different variety. Music was very loud in the dining room and service is very slow. This was the first of all our cruise where we actually miss dinning room dinner and ate at buffet instead. Entertainment was below par. Majority of the cruise staff here are Filipino. I have nothing against them. They are very good people. Cruise director and his staff is all Filipino. Some of them really need some more coaching. Since they play an important part in entertaining all passenger. Also this was the only cruise where they have some show that have extra charges. Bermuda was very nice. Very easy getting off and on the ship. Internet package is very expensive Norwegian 250 minutes (very slow speed) cost $125. Royal Caribbean 1 day package is about $30 Unlimited Alcohol package on Norwegian is about USD$100 while Royal Caribbean is around USD $70 with more discount promotion. To summarized, our family did not enjoy the cruise. In fact we will be cancelling our next year booking with NCL and would look for other cruise line. It is unfortunate that we fell this way since this was our worst cruise. I hope NCL would seriously look at their food variety and improve on quality. This was also our first cruise where we did not give additional tips. Usually we gave additional tips to some waiter or room attendant. It seems like this NCL has a lot more extra charges than other cruise line and it gets confused on what is included. Please take my review with a grain of salt. I am only expressing my own personal experience. This review is not on behalf of other passenger. We have more fun cruising with Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Princess and Celebrity. We will not be cruising with NCL again. Read Less

Leaving from NYC was great. We had a great evening the night before our cruise and were really excited to try a new cruise line for our honeymoon. Embarkation was very quick and easy, no troubles there. When we got to our room, we were pleased with the size, and aesthetics considering we paid for an inside cabin room. Then we set sail... They charge you extra for EVERYTHING. We are used to other cruise lines where you pay a heftier price, but it's worth it. Here are some of the charges we usually get for free on other cruise lines: $10 inside cabin movie rentals $250 Saunas for the week $30 Shows/Entertainment $$ Restaurants for good food Entertainment was awful. There were no theaters to watch movies, or have popcorn. They closed the hot tubs some evenings merely because no one was near by and used the "inclement weather" excuse despite the clear skies and calm seas. The shows were TERRIBLE. "Brat Pack" was supposed to be a throwback to the 80s, but all it was was 10 or so characters screaming at each other and using profane language. The story line made no sense. The dinner shows were awful (which you're charged to eat off one menu preselected for you which you cant make alterations). The venue is small and you better get there early or you'll be stuck sitting behind poles which impedes your view to the stage. Food was awful. They had pretty much the same menu on all of the complimentary restaurants, all you were changing was the ambiance. The food in the "Garden Cafe" buffet all tasted bland or flavorless. I mean EVERYTHING. Either they weren't using enough ingredients or their ingredients were of really poor quality. Everything seemed off - like fruit tart with chocolate custard? Watered down nacho cheese. Eclairs with bland chocolate filling? We decided to try two speciality restaurants, the Brazilian steakhouse moderno and food republic. service at moderno was was worse than your typical chain restaurant. We were never asked for refills, deserts, coffee, etc. We certainly felt forgotten which was interesting because we were in the middle of the room. Oh, and none of the desserts were actually typical Brazilian desserts. Food republic was better, but should a guest really have to pay extra to eat okay food? Service was the worst. Bad attitudes, inflexible, mug faces, etc. And when they weren't seemingly unhappy, they were obnoxious roaming around yelling and singing trying to get people to wash hands or eat their tasteless foods. The aesthetics of the ship was really nice. Its a new ship and it was evident and nice to look at. However, if you wanted a quiet place with a view, to just lounge and relax - good luck! They had no reading room or quiet board gaming lounge. (Actually, their library was perhaps a 10x10 claustrophobic room). The ports were awful. Perhaps would've been better with better weather, but there was not much to do anywhere so when we wanted to relax and have some downtime.. we were stuck in our room where movie rentals were $10 a movie. Needless to say - we couldn't wait to get off the boring ship (and folks we met throughout the last few days couldn't wait to get off either). Luckily for us, disembarkation was smooth and quick! Sorry Norwegian, we wont be sailing with you anytime in the near future. Read Less

I live in georgia and we spent a few days in new york before boarding the ship. our destination was bermuda. we were told the thursday before we left that due to weather the itinerary was changed to florida and the bahamas. we did not make it to the bahamas instead we circled bermuda and was at sea for days. they did not extend the hours of the restaurants. parties ended @ 12:30; margaritaville closed @ 5:00 pm. no other shows were added. so basically we were held capture on the ship. i am not happy that i paid $3000 to go to florida and sit in the middle of the ocean. Quest services could not answer any questions and we were not given the option of postponing our trip. we were told that if we cancel we will lose our money. It was 11 people in my group and we all purchased the ultimate beverage package but once on the ship we were told that it did not include every beverage. THE SHIP HAD SOME STABILIZING ISSUES WHICH CAUSED MEMBERS OF MY GROUP AS WELL AS MYSELF TO BECOME ILL ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION I am very disappointed that they have chosen to do nothing about the complaints and just decided to keep our money and not give us a thing to make up for this horrible week. Also, from what i know hurricanes travel so if we could go around bermuda without any issues why couldn't we go to bermuda. Read Less

Cruise was supposed to go to Bermuda, changed to Bahamas two days before. Impending hurricane so this was understandable but when we boarded the ship my wife's luggage was delivered to the wrong room. I inquired where it was. The staff said it was delivered to my stateroom. It was not. The staff insisted it was and I brought him to my stateroom and asked him where he left it? He said in the room. I said, well it's not here. He then told me that I would have to go to the main lobby and ask them to look for it. I then did just that but still no luggage. After an hour and a half my wife's luggage was finally located in another passengers room and it was delivered to our room. Immediately we noticed that our ship tag had been cut from the bag. I had triple secured it to the luggage, for just this reason that it wouldn't be lost. Someone removed it. Maybe staff, because I asked how they could lose a bag that was clearly marked and so secure. If it was a passenger this seems worse. My wife was upset that a stranger looked inside her luggage where her personal belongings were located. The ship staff sent strawberries and a bottle of wine for the mix up. Then to add insult to injury the trip was changed again after visiting Norwegian's private island. No Nassau Bahamas. We were given a 30 dollar refund for port charges. We never ported at a foreign port. The cruise staff was very rude during the cruise especially in the dining areas. I understand that the passengers were unhappy and were probably not that nice to them but they reciprocated by giving poor service. When I returned home I sent a certified letter to guest relations; no response. I filed a complaint with guest services; no response. I again filed a second complaint citing my letter and my first complaint with its' assigned number. I also called and they said it had to be in writing. Today they responded by saying that these things happen, the weather, the lost luggage, etc. and that we were compensated with strawberries and wine. Have a nice day. I am deeply disappointed in Norwegian. This was my eighth cruise with them and maybe my last. Read Less

Let me start by saying that we knew the risks of planning a cruise during hurricane season, so we weren't really that bothered by our itinerary changing. What followed is the reason for this review. We were sent to Port Canaveral, Great Stirrup Cay, and Nassau. At Port Canaveral, there's not really anything to do besides the space center, which you really need more time for. So we didn't bother getting off the ship. At Great Stirrup Cay, they don't have a dock for a cruise ship, so you have to get carried to shore and back by tender boats. This process is so time consuming that you only get about 4 hours on the island. 2 hours into it, they shut down all the food stands and bars. Then, the captain skipped our last stop (the main attraction) at Nassau. Now, I understand that we had to go out to sea farther to avoid the hurricane on the way home. What pissed me off is that instead of skipping their stupid private island and going to Nassau, we skipped Nassau. I am pretty confident this was done because it saved them money since they own Great Stirrup Cay. They saved on port fees by not going to Nassau. It's clear they don't care about the happiness of their guests. At this point, I would have expected them to offer SOME type of compensation or incentive for another cruise - ANYTHING. Especially when you consider that our new itinerary was exactly the same as one of their normal cruises, which is CHEAPER than the Bermuda cruise we booked. At the very least, a partial reimbursement for the price difference would have been the ethical thing to do. The other cruise lines that had to change course offered all their guests some type of compensation. Not NCL though. Next, let's talk about the actual ship. A member of our group has been on several Norwegian cruises (and will never go on another one after this). The other ships are apparently laid out the same, except the Escape added 2 floors of guest rooms and holds like 2000 more passengers. So there aren't really any more attractions, but there are way more people to fill up those attractions. That was a MAJOR problem during our cruise. Almost every single event/show/etc on the ship requires a reservation. By the 2nd or 3rd day, they were all booked. ALL OF THEM - not an exaggeration. We decided to try the stand-by line for one of the comedy shows. We showed up 45 minutes early and there were already about 70 people in the stand by line (and the comedy club isn't all that big). We didn't even bother. You basically have to plan your entire trip and everything you want to do by the 2nd day. You can't be spontaneous at all. There are 2 tiny pools they are ridiculously crowded at all times. I guess if you're into the frat party lifestyle where you're constantly grinding against other people all day you would really like this. For everyone else, it's miserable. Seriously, if you put both pools together, they would be about the size of a typical inground pool at a normal house in the suburbs. If that wasn't bad enough, they close all the pools and hot tubs around 10pm. Not for maintenance or anything - they just close them. By 11pm, pretty much everything except one restaurant/bar is closed. We are adults looking to stay out late and have fun on vacation, but that is apparently not on the menu with NCL. The one thing I actually enjoyed, the speed slides, were shut down for HOURS every day. The mini golf course has holes/dips under the green that you can't see until you step on them and almost fall, not to mention the frustration of a great putt randomly changing direction or totally stopping. The Bocce Ball court was tapered downhill from the center on both sides, which rendered it all but useless. I realize nobody takes a cruise to play Bocce Ball, but it's just one more thing on the list. They advertise the zip line that swings out over the side of the ship as a big attraction. What they don't tell you is that IT DOESN'T EVER WORK!!! In fact, 50% of the entire ropes course is permanently shut down. An employee told us that it's shut down because they have no way to work on it and maintain it. So this course probably only worked for the first year of the ship's life and will probably never work again. If you're not familiar with NCL ships, they have an Atrium in the center that is open for 3 floors, with the casino surrounding it on the center floor. They allow smoking in the casino. By the 3rd day of the trip, the smoke has traveled throughout the entire atrium - all 3 floors. This is really fantastic when your wife is pregnant and trying to avoid second hand smoke. We got the "ultimate" beverage package, which includes drinks up to $15. What they don't tell you is that they jack up the prices of everything so that the good stuff is just barely too expensive to get. You can get most mixed drinks and pretty much all beers, but if you're into sipping bourbon or scotch, you're only getting the middle shelf stuff. After all that, NCL wouldn't offer us anything at all. Not even 10% off a future cruise. Not even the difference in price for the cruise we got vs the one we paid for. I have been on Carnival cruises and had a much better time. I hear Royal Caribbean is great as well. I can say that I will never go on another NCL cruise in my life. Neither will any of the 25 other people in my group. That's how bad it was. In fact, I never even write negative reviews on anything, but this was so bad I felt like it was my duty to make sure others don't have the same experience. Read Less

I chose this cruise to see Bermuda. Unfortunately the itinerary was changed to Florida and Bahamas related to Hurricane Florence. I totally understood the reason for the change and had no issue with it. However, after speaking with other passengers and learning that the Florida, Bahama itinerary was a much cheaper cruise. I was a little upset that we were not offered any money back or even any on board credit since we would be spending much more time on the ship. I chose not to get off the ship in Port Canaveral because I had been there many times. The next day we went to the private island which was beautiful. We were not notified that we had to sign up for a tender to leave the boat and did not make it off the boat for island until 12 pm with a departure time of 4:30pm. We were told that night that we would not be going to Nassau. We were not given a valid reason but other passengers said that we never had dock space so that is why were not going. That being said I spent a total of seven days on the ship only getting off for 4 hours. I was told Norwegians competitors compensated their passengers for the changed itinerary. Norwegian saved money by not taking us to Bermuda and by not docking in Nassua. When we complained we were all given the same form letter basically telling us tough. Read Less

I'm poor, so cruising isn't something I get to do, needless to say I was very excited about this early birthday trip to what would likely be my only opportunity to see Bermuda. Bermuda was canceled, while that was a real bummer I still wanted to make lemonade of lemons but unfortunately Norwegian failed to deliver in so many ways. We went to a port in Florida where we got a lovely view of a parking lot, there wasn't enough time there to do anything off the boat. I've been to FL a lot and could've planned a week long vacay there for a tiny fraction of what we paid for this cruise and had much more fun doing it. We went to Norwegian's island Great Stirrup Cay, while it was nice the tender there was extremely crowded, we had to use stairs to get there and my bad knee/hip was feeling that hardcore, the beach was packed, and there was nothing to do there. The entertainment on the ship had to be reserved and once the Bahamas was canceled every last thing filled up. The boat was way too packed to do anything without the ports of call to thin out the herd. As for dining every place was so full we never got to try anything outside of the buffet. The drinks were good but it turns out the beverage package does not include every drink and we were charged extra fees when we got drinks, this wasn't disclosed to us up front. The wifi was absolutely terrible, a two minute task would take ten minutes and trying to logout was incredibly frustrating when it's costing $1/minute. We went to guest services about the wifi issues, they sent us to the internet manager who sent us back to guest services who told us once again it wasn't their problem. We didn't want to keep bouncing back and forth as the lines were very long with unhappy customers on this cruise. We were charged $29/day for room cleaning and our room was only cleaned twice, not only because we know how to clean up after ourselves but the insane amount of rocking kept us pretty seasick, we weren't able to leave the room a whole lot, and even if we could everything was booked solid, there wasn't much to do. The room itself was nice (balcony room) but the bed was solid as a rock and that divide in the middle from the beds being pushed together was definitely felt. The TV would occasionally just go out, it didn't time out, it flickered and would cut out, and sometimes have trouble coming back on. The remote only worked sometimes. The speakers weren't very clear as it was difficult to understand anything the captain or cruise director said. The art auctions are fun but wow is Park West ever a scam, do yourself a favor and look into them. It's deplorable that Norwegian allows such fraudulent activity on their ships. As long as the checks clear I guess it doesn't matter. While I am thankful they wanted to steer us away from the storm (which is as much a benefit to them as it is to us) they knew up front what was ahead and denied any form of cancellation refund, and they offered no compensation afterwards, no partial refunds, no future cruise discounts to show they're not so shady afterall, nothing. Even if we were able to take the intended itinerary a lot of things on this ship and about Norwegian was an absolute failure. Read Less
