Our travel agent in good faith helped us decide on the subject cruise. The decision was driven largely by the ports of call, and a generally good experience expressed by other clients regarding Princess. We are not seasoned cruisers but we travel extensively with bookings we do on our own. We were on a cruise with Royal Caribbean many years ago and two years ago with Celebrity. It was the positive experience we had on the Celebrity cruise that encouraged us to book this cruise with your line. It was a very disappointing experience. The excursions were badly designed with lots of time wasted needlessly for the short time in each port. Some operators were good but one chose to make very inappropriate comments. The food was fine but there was no attempt to serve any dishes from the region. One of the entertainers chose to make jokes about people with mental health issues. This is not acceptable in any context. Unlike some other ships there is no place to sit quietly beside a pool and read a book - the noise from the film was overpowering even at the "quiet pool" area. Overall this was very bad value in comparison with Celebrity. Read Less

(Just cruised eastern half) Planned this cruise to celebrate my husband's retirement. Thought it would be a spectacular start. This was our fourth cruise, fourth cruise line. Never had a complaint before. Can't believe how horrible this was. The good: Embarkation was incredibly smooth. Went early to escape the crowds waiting at the hotel. Figured we'd rather wait in a long line at terminal and were surprised to walk right on ship shortly after 11am. Our room steward was the perfect mix. Had everything in order without being intrusive. The other good is the medallion system. Once you figure it out it's awesome. All their training seems to have gone into this. Need to work on service now. Had anytime dining. No table for two first night so sat with others which we enjoyed. Surprised to see many men in shorts. Next night (not formal) my husband decided to wear dress shorts and button down shirt. We accidentally ended up walking near the set time dining room. The host dressed in a white suit came rushing at my husband demanding to know if we intended to eat there. I said no, we were looking for the anytime. He made a spectacle of us and announced loudly that he wouldn't be allowed to eat there either dressed like that. Everyone in line staring gaped mouth at this. Three days into retirement and an arrogant ignoramus is yelling at him. He changed to dress pants and we rode the elevator down with a couple men heading to dinner in their dress shorts. I did let them know my husband had just been yelled at for this. And laughed and tried to let it go. Not being a meat eater the dinners were quite disappointing. I don't know how they turn fish into a dry leathery substance...even the everyday favorite salmon is incredibly dry. The trout was spectacular one night, probably because I asked if it could be made without the seafood stuffing so they made me a special one, which I greatly appreciated. I had read the complaints about how lengthy dinner service was. We enjoy leisurely dinners so I thought that was overblown. The time it took between each course was ridiculous. Complaints are spot on. Probably why there is never enough seating as well. Booked the enclave for the week because I have back issues and the heated stone loungers are a godsend. Usually. They have many of them. None work as they should...lukewarm at best so no point. Asked at desk if she could up the temperature. Said she would. Never happened. I improvised and laid down on a double seat in a heated room to get the heat in my back. This worked well for a couple days. They lost their heat as well. A couple days in...no heat. The voice of the ocean finale they handed out remotes to vote for your favorite. Had to trade it for your medallion. The way out of the princess theater was a nightmare...I had come out the far door from desk. People all around getting their medallions back. Mine had a novel attachment unlike any other so I put the remote down and picked mine up. Unable to name here (the girl at desk) literally screamed at me "don't touch them!!" She took it back then looked at the remote for the number and yes, it was mine so gave it back to me. I just walked away in shock...having not been yelled at since I was twelve. Then went back to get her name so I could complain to passenger services, who basically said "well you should have waited in line so it's your fault but yeah I'll let them know". I understand they put this single crew member in a terrible situation with everyone exiting the theater at the same time coming from different doors. But no passenger should be screamed at. A polite " I'm sorry no one can handle these but me" would suffice. Totally unacceptable behavior from her and passenger services who should have just apologized for the behavior. Need to come up with a more fluid system with the remotes so crew unequipped for handling pressure don't crumble. Pub lunch at wheelhouse was the best fish on the boat. In the ship fact sheet it states lunch is offered daily. It was offered once. The last full day so a ridiculous long wait to get in. The same host, who yelled at my husband previously, seating everyone with lots of attitude. I don't think princess understands they are in the service industry. So severely lacking. The cruise started with my husband being yelled and and ended with me being yelled at. As if that wasn't enough, the final insult...we purchased the transfer to airport. Went to the dining room assigned for disembarkation, asked if there was paper I needed for transfer. He said no, just follow the group. It will be clear. Was easy getting out of terminal. Followed to blue sign saying princess transfers to right with rep also saying transfers to the right....which everyone was led to a lineup of taxis taking our bags and putting them in cars. (No princess rep in between) Drove to airport and then driver demanded payment. I needed a voucher for transfer which princess never gave us. Are you kidding me?? Ended up paying him. What else was there to do. Finally made it home and all I want to do is cry. Thankful that we at least met some lovely passengers along the way. Read Less

My family and I were looking for an upgraded cruise line that we would feel comfortable cruising with for the next several years. We plan to take an Alaskan cruise in the near future and decided to try a Princess Caribbean cruise first as Princess has the majority of the Alaskan cruise market. We have been on other upgraded cruise lines before including Celebrity, Norwegian and Viking. We booked a penthouse suite for ourselves and an interior room for our daughter. The room was beautiful and the deck wrapped around the back and the side of boat as our room was located at the back of the ship. Unfortunately, we weren't able to use the deck after the first 2 days as the room steward never cleaned the floor, the table, the chairs or the cushions. The glass for the fencing was so dirty you could barely see through it. It was interesting, when we pulled into port in St. Marteen, a Royal Caribbean ship was there and those employees were cleaning every balcony so the guest could enjoy what they had paid for. The customer service on the ship was terrible at best. Our room steward never brought ice to our room even though it was listed as a daily room perk. He never stocked our minibar another listed perk. We tried calling room service, guest services and housekeeping but no one ever answered the phone. Guest services did answer 1 time and the person on the other end audibly sighed when I requested things like towels, water, and ice. Finally, I started asking other room stewards on our floor as I only saw ours 1 time the entire cruise. The other room stewards made it very obvious they did not want to help me, but they did after I gave them an additional tip. Needless to say we never got any towel animals either. Of course I would have been happy with a towel of any kind, folded or not. Our daughter was not eligible to eat in Club class dining with us since she was in a different room, even though we paid for 2 rooms included a full suite. So we paid for Anytime dining for the 3 of us. It turns out, there is no such thing on the Regal. There is only 1 anytime restaurant which is not enough. If you aren't there before 6:00 pm, which appears to be the time when the restaurant is full, then you have to wait until 7:30 and then it is first come first serve. You can choose to put your name on a list for a reservation after 8:00 if you prefer. We ended up eating at the buffet most of the time as did most people on the ship. Our first stop was at Princess Cay for a beach day and a BBQ in the Bahamas. The ship was at capacity but they only opened 1 side of the Island for the food during the BBQ and the bar. I went to the bar before 10:00 am to ask the person standing there where the bathroom was located. She told me they didn't open until 10:00. I again stated I just needed to know where the bathroom was and she again stated they didn't open until 10:00 am and I had to come back then to ask a question. So my daughter had blood running down her face from the nose bleed and we couldn't get napkins or tissue because this lady wouldn't answer where the bathroom was located. Fortunately one of the vendors saw us trying to manage the situation and brought us to the bathroom and helped me clean her up. I was very thankful for her help and tipped her as well. When it came time to eat lunch, since only one side of the island was open, the long was LONG. I stood in line for an hour and 10 minutes and when we finally made it there, the only thing left was hot dogs. They closed the lunch down promptly at 1:30 with no consideration for how long the line was taking people to get food and some people never got to eat at all. It almost made me thankful for the gross hot dog we did get. St. Thomas and St. Marteen were the other 2 stops and the shore excursions were very nice. We enjoyed the islands as always. Our daughter is 18. Typically when we take cruises she goes to the activities listed for people her age and finds a group of friends to hang out with for the duration. Thanks to social media, she still stays in touch with some of them which is nice. Regal cancelled every activity listed for her age range. She didn't meet a single person on the ship. There was only 1 club to go to at night and it was constantly playing 60's - 70's music. It was also completely empty. There is nothing for young adults on this ship even though it was the height of Spring Break season when we were there. Getting off the ship in Ft. Lauderdale was a total nightmare. The luggage was not in the location it was supposed to be. We were light blue 4. We found our luggage across the room in brown 6. It took over an hour to get our car out of the garage and the people who worked there were surly at best. This cruise felt like a Carnival cruise with a hefty price tag. We will never take another Princess cruise again. Or any cruise line owned by Carnival. We will go back to Celebrity and enjoy the service and amenities they offer. Read Less

I am not one to criticize for no reason or even one to write reviews, but I feel the need to warn anyone under the age of 40, even 50 to seriously consider a different ship. I’d say 80-90% of the ship was 60-80 years old. All the food, activities, and entertainment was catered to that crowd. Food was bland and not well seasoned. Very repetitive as far as the Buffett selections on a day to day basis. During the day at the pool, there was no music, they would play movies or videos of concerts of people like Elton john or Bryan Adams. They screen was in the air so you had to stare into the sun if you decided to watch during the day. No pool activities or games. Servers around the pool were few and far between. At night it was all broadway type entertainment catered to the older crowd. Drink menus were also the same throughout the ship with only about 10 total mixed drinks on it. Again this isn’t so much a bad review as it is a warning to anyone looking to have fun while on board the ship. Also two of the ports did not have docks for the large cruise ship, spending hours on small rescue boats in rough waters and waiting in lines to travel back and forth. Read Less

Beverage package a joke. You paid for unlimited sodas, juices etc. And 15 alcohol drinks and they only give you one at a time! Couldn't even get 2 to take to your room! Had to keep walking back. Much to their surprise if you did use all 15, then they could have sold more to you! Felt like a teenager being watched. Get up early for an excursion to meet in theater just for them to make a big announcement it was cancelled! We could have slept longer. Need better system to notify guests! The hot tubs were not hot. Our stewardess was wonderful and very attentive to what we needed. The process of getting on the ship was smooth. Leaving was easy, but we were anxious to leave! Advice if you want to visit an island, book an all inclusive resort and explore at your own pace. Having "MAMA" ship control your much needed time off for a working person not relaxing at all. First of all, let me say Regal Princess is a beautiful ship. We chose this cruise based on recommendations from friends who had cruised on Princess multiple times and loved it. Unfortunately, this was not the case for us. We were instructed by Princess our boarding time was 2pm, yet when we arrived at 145p, terminal staff scolded us for arriving so late. Really? We were traveling with another couple and requested our mini-suites be next to each other. We were not able to select our rooms, and were given rooms on opposite sides of the ship. Our room was under the skywalk, making it impossible to enjoy our balcony or even have our drapes open any time of day, as people would wave to us. The noises day and night was ridiculous! Our room steward was pleasant and personable. We left cash tips for him times a day, in addition to the gratuity charged to our room. Yet, the last morning he stopped by our room and stood and stood, as if asking for more $$$. Food was disappoointing, at best. Morning buffet was mediocre. Crowne Grille..had to send steak back 3 time to get it RARE. Came medium well other times. Rest of our party waited, and ended up eating cold food. We also were late for the Show that evening due to slow service. We didn't stay for dessert. Crab Shack was pathetic! Crawfish were DRY!!! Don't waste your money. Sabatinis....pork was pure FAT and not edible. Veal was tough. We canceled our next nights reservation there, yet were charged since we had made and paid for the reservation pre-cruise. Word of advice....Don't pre-order special dining options. You won't be refunded when your plans change due to poor service and terrible food on a previous night Allegro.... our waiter, was rarely around and less than happy to be there. Service was slow and food was very salty. Communication on the ship was terrible. Staff didn;t know things they should when asked at Guest Relations and would send us running around the ship to find it on our own and being sent to various locations. MedallionNet needs tweeking. Difficult to use. May be better with internet, but was not willing to try. Productions shows were very good. Very talented singers and dancers. Crystal Starr needs to find another profession...... Comedian was very funny! I don't like to write bad reviews, but this 8 day cruise was a total disappointment. We had such high hopes. Read Less

The worst customer service and horrible manners. The room was not clean, the staff was rude, the activities were very little and same thing everyday. They do not care about their customers returning. They were very racist and only helped their own kind. I do not recommend anybody to travel with Princess. The excursions, all they cared about was taking pictures and selling the pictures. They rushed through my experience and made us go in the water with unsafe conditions just to be able to take a couple pictures. This trip was a disaster the food was good but that is it. They had the worst service at the restaurant. If you did not want to purchase anything extra from them, they were giving attitude and taking extra long to get your food. The room service messed up on my order twice. The directors of the cruise were very rude. All the staff were very unhappy with their job and ruined my entire experience. This was my first cruise ever and I will not be back to Princess. Read Less

My husband and I expected to have a lovely experience. The ship is clean, the staff is friendly and helpful and our cabin was comfortable. The dinner menus looked interesting but the food was bland, overcooked and tough. We truly hoped it was only a one night problem but we were disappointed in the dinners on the first 5 nights of our 7 night cruise. On night 6 we decided to have dinner at Alfredo"s cafe and it was the only flavorful and well prepared dinner on the ship. The staff offered us a chance to dine in Sabitini's specialty restaurant. It was probably the WORST meal we had on this vacation. The entertainment was great. We loved the production shows. There was lovely live music in many venues around the ship. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful. There were always lounges and seats available wherever we chose to go. We loved the professional portraits taken by the great photographers. Sorry to say that we definitely will not take a Princess cruise again. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the ports. Normally, we sail with Royal Caribbean but chose Princess for a change of venue. VERY disappointing. Food was institutional. Staff was robotic and generally non-energetic/not concerned with providing a high quality of experience. It felt like an old age home. Average age was in the late 70's. Even the casino was boring. FYI, ST John should not be a port. NOTHING to do there and the only site, the reversing rapids, is located at a paper refinery. There were no professional shows that were of any interest. A tenor, a dancing show...again, things that are geared towards the elderly. Highlights were Bar Harbor, Halifax and Newport...but take a more interesting ship. On the positive side, the ship is aesthetically beautiful. If only there were things to do! The activities we went to the most were trivia challenges...THAT is how boring it was. Read Less

Hello, this may be my first review on Cruise Critic, but i have cruised over 30 times and consider myself and my family seasoned cruise travelers. I will try to be as detailed as possible, and hopefully others will not make the same mistake as us, by going on Regal. What prompted me to write this review? Well this cruise had to be the worst cruise my family and I have ever taken. Details: 1. we had a party of 7 adults and 4 children booked in 4 different cabins. 2. Cabins: Fiji Suite C101, 2 balconies on deck 10, and 1 inside cabin on the same deck. What was included? I will base my review mostly on the suite, and include some aspects that are relevant from other cabins as well. Princess website list of included suite amenities: https://www.princess.com/downloads/pdf/ships/PrincessSuite_eFlyer.pdf given, that some of them such as spa thermal suite options are not included. Upon arrival to the port, nobody had any idea about prior embarkation and two old men that welcome everybody with Princess badges specifically had no idea about it, on top were very rude and careless. Had to wait in line for everything with everybody, even at the check in. So something that should have taken less than 10 minutes, took over 2 hours. Keep in mind, we are traveling with 4 kids ages 13, 6, 5, 1.5 years of age. After this horrible wait, we finally made it on-board. Normally we are escorted straight to the suite, but this time, nobody gave a rats ass. After leaving our carry-on in the room, we decided to go on the upper deck to let the kids loose, however, there is a major problem. You have to wait for an elevator for over 30 minutes, before you might get lucky and squeeze in. They only have 3 sets and total of 14 elevator for 4000 passengers. Concierge, SPA, and rest of pre-planned reservations. Part of the services that are included are concierge services. Well forget about that. Tried calling 2 times with wait times of at least 30 minutes, and was just transferred automatically to front desk, who were completely useless. We tried to make reservations for the "free" specialty dinning on 1 day, but couldn't get through to anybody. During the rest of the cruise, I was only able to speak with concierge 4 times, and 3 out of 4 times were during last day at sea. they only have 1 concierge with limited hours for ALL the suites. Our concierge was very nice, when we got to speak to her, and did help us out toward the end of the cruise. Then we walked down to the spa, and tried to make reservation for massages for my wife and myself. Well guess what? 1 hour wait in line. Staff barely speak any English. $400 for 75 minute massage and they had the audacity to tell me that they only had one spot in 2 days. We agreed, also was promised as part of the package for massage to have access to the saunas before the massage. On the day of the appointment, we came down to the "great and luxurious" spa about 45 mins before our apt, to relax and enjoy the sauna before the massage. Greeted by rude Asian woman who can barely speak any English (Which is a trend on this cruise ship). I was given a key to go change and put on provided bath robe, but my wife was directed to the waiting area and told that they don't have any clean robes or shoes or lockers at that time. Wonderful way for a spa to welcome guests. After i changed, i join my wife at the waiting area, and questions about the sauna, to which i was told immediately that we have to pay extra. After requesting to speak to the manager and 20 minutes later, he decided to come and see us, and told us that sauna is not included and whoever promised us access was lying. so now we are sitting their waiting for a massage for 45 minutes. Our apt. was suppose to be at 4pm. masseuses came out at 4:15 and took us to the massage room. Their they questioned us for over 10 minutes and finally we were on a table and our "75 minute" massage began. However, at exactly 5:15, they stopped and said that it is over. We were highly disappointed. After we came back up to our rooms, i called the manager, and after his research he called us back 3 hours later, and said that we did in fact were shorted our massage, and the best he can do was to discount our rate 15% for a 45 minute massage that we received. I didn't argue and decided to address this issue with front desk manager later in the cruise. Two days later, i had a few minutes to stop by at the front desk, and after a short conversation with the frond desk supervisor, was told that I am out of luck, and that whatever spa manager said, goes. This is one of largest frauds that Princess is committing, since my mother-in-law went for a couple of massages and was shorted at least 15 minutes on each one as well. Management knows about this problem, and is simply committing fraud without even hiding it. STAY AWAY FROM THE SPA, or set a timer from the second that they begin, and leave it in front of their faces during the whole massage, because they just care about money. Also tips are automatically included, without an option to remove them, on top of your bill. Food Food was average on this cruise ship at best. Buffet had almost the same thing every day. Quality in the buffet was decent. We ended up eating there 5 out 8 days. Main dinning room has a very bad setup as well. When you make a reservation, you are still forced to wait for 20+ mins to get a table. Same time that other passengers wait who just walk in. We ended up going to Italian rest. on board, and presentation was good, but their pasta's are horrible. Very hard, and dry. Bar service is long, and our server didn't know any drinks, nor names of requested alcohol. Toward the end of the cruise, most of the fruits where either too green or stale. Bar Service and Drinks I don't drink a lot, but decided to opt-in for the unlimited package, just so i don't have to worry about anything. It costs $60 per day. However, they don't tell you is that it is far from unlimited. You can only have 15 alcoholic beverages per 24 hours, and can only order 1 drink at a time. This meant that you cannot get 2 of anything in 1 bar per order, even cheap purified bottles of water. I started drinking one of their higher end rums (Pyrat), but magically enough, that by the 2nd day, all of the bar ran out of the rum, and only had 5 dollar cheap rum. Most of the bar tenders only know 2 or 3 cocktails, and when asked to change one ingredient, just look at you as if you started talking to them in different language. Bring your own wine on-board, and enjoy it, since everything they have is not safe to consume, due to them mixing different alcohols together that have the same color. Casino: One of the worst ones I have seen at sea. Have about 10 table games, and 50 or so slots. If you enjoy playing anything larger than 5 or 6 dollar bet, they don't have it. Sometimes they open $25 bet Black Jack table. Every Blackjack is machine continued shuffled, and due to the company not being registered in U.S. they don't have to follow certain guidelines. So I think majority of people who played lost all of their money, with odds staggered so much against the players, that it is obvious, and not even fun. Some of the dealers are decent, most of them barely speak any English, and act as if they are doing you a favor by being there. Stop #1 - Princess private island in Bahamas. Tender stop. One more advertised perk of a suite is to get priority tender. I guess Regal staff was not informed of this, and had no clue what that means, because when we came downstairs, they put us in queue with the rest of passengers and was forced to wait for 30 minutes. Princess uses tenders from the island, they are staffed by locals, not Princess crew. Once we made our way to the tender, nobody helped us with stroller. Everybody was stuffed like sardines on the boat, and one of the local operator tried to force us to put all the kids on the laps. When confronted, he started swearing in front of the kids, and complaining. There were 2 Princess security officers 5 feet away, who said or did nothing to help. On shore, nobody was able to advise anything about activities or about beach chairs and umbrellas. I found one local who was in charge of the beach, and was told that every single umbrella was reserved and they had none available. This is absolutely ridiculous. We found a couple chairs under the tree, otherwise we would be forced to go back on to the ship, since everybody would have a heat stroke. On board, i purchased a liquor package that is suppose to be unlimited but later found out that i could only have 1 drink at a time, and max 15 alcoholic drinks per day. I can't get water and alcohol at the same time when weather is at 90 deg plus. Also water that is served everywhere including the cruise ship is purified cheap water, not is spring water, and only small bottles. 1 liter bottles are available and are excluded from "unlimited package" that cost $60 per day. After a very uncomfortable stay at the beach on the way back, we noticed something really scary: Bar staff at preparation to leave, took all open bottles of hard liquor and poured different types of alcohol in 1 bottle. Our whole party saw this, and staff didn't ever care to hide this. They were doing this on the concrete deck without any care for poisoning people, nor contamination. Last, I did not know that Drones are not allowed on the cruise ships, but nobody at security, or at check-in said anything even tough i was carrying it on my should the entire time. I recorded a few videos from the island, and never turned it on on the ship. When coming back from the island, security stopped me and forcefully confiscated the drone with a promise that they would bring it to my room the during the last night. This is fine, since it is their policy, but this should have been told to me during initial security screening in Ft. Lauderdale. I would have just left it in my car. Days 2 and 3 - at sea. During these days, there is not much to say. Ship was at capacity and since there are only two areas for people to hang out, it was packed and unbearable to even walk at. I walked in to see what kind of art hey had, and was told that I couldn't buy anything, and had to attend an auction to even have a chance to buy something. Jewelry store had a very limited selection, and packed as well. Forget about getting table for 11 people, barely found a 3 small tables across the whole buffet to sit in. Day 4 - St. Thomas US. V. I. We have been to the island at least 4 times. We didn't really want to do any excursions, but just go to the beach and relax. Once incident that happened made me very upset. We negotiated with a cab driver (open bus safari pickup trucks) that hey won't charge for the children, if they sit on the lap. On the way back, without saying anything at the pier, driver demanded full charge even though kids were sitting on the lap. So Don't count on them honoring your deal. Day 5 - St Marten Great stop, great shopping, good beach a short ferry ride from the ship. We knew the prices, and the beach, so nothing out of ordinary. If you want to purchase alcohol or tobacco, go to the large duty free store right at the main ferry dock. they have very good prices and selection. Also you know you will get more or less authentic items. Same goes for cheap things, buy them in the city. Everything in the port is marked up 1000% and no negotiations. Day 6 and 7 - at sea. Also nothing new to add except that forget about seeing any shows, unless you come to the theater 2 hours before show begins. They had 500 seats for 400 passengers, and nothing else. No other entertainment you can go to. Casino Day 7 - Disembarkation. Was rushed out from the suite by 8am. by the room Stewart. I called to the front desk the night before as well as in the morning, and was advised that my drone will not be delivered to my room, but needed to be picked up before the bridge when they scan my card out. Once we made our way down to the exit, security team that consisted of another 2 crew members, that did not speak any english, and was told that my drone will be at customs. After calling for supervisor, i was told the same thing. The security officers at that checkpoint were hiding their names, and would not identify themselves to me upon request. I believe this is a direct violation of Princess policy and unsafe for passengers, since anybody can put on security uniform and do whatever they choose. Obviously nobody knew anything about priority disembarkation. I think Princess has the worst luggage collection and customs setup ever existed. There are 4 large rooms with every-bodies luggage. Then all 4000 passengers are directed into 1 line to go through customs. Average wait time is 2 hours. Once we exited, after 3 hours of "priority disembarkation" I was very happy to get of and finish this nightmare. In conclusion, (if you got this far) I would say Princess really need to get their act together, and deliver proper and honest service. At this point, it simply does not exist, and if you are paying for any amenities extra, might as well save your money, and spend it elsewhere. I don't think I will ever consider Princess for another cruise, until i see some major changes. STAY AWAY if you want to have a good time. Read Less

Chose the cruise to spend time with our family on our first family vacation. We wanted to see the shows and experience cruising together but found that booking the 5:30pm dinners at the Traditional Dining Restaurant did not afford us the opportunity to get seats for ANY of the early shows. My 75 year old mother-in-law requested that all she wanted was to have us all together for dinner but the dinner times (5:30pm & 7:30pm) did not coincide with the Princess Theatre Shows so, each and every time, we rushed through our dinners to try to get seating and even getting to the Theatre 40 mins before the show starting was not enough time to get seats. My 75 year old mother-in-law actually stood at the back of the Princess Theatre for a full show!!!!!! I cannot even believe she did that but it was the only way she could see the show. We managed to see 1 show as a family on a week's cruise - that has never happened to us before. Also - if you are planning to book Spa Treatments at the Lotus Spa, be prepared to say 'NO' over and over again if you are not interested in buying products after your treatment. I booked 3 treatments at the beginning of the trip and after each "relaxing" treatment, I had to say "No, not interested" many times over and over again because the staff was just not hearing me when I said no to them sell me lotions, oils, brushes, etc. It was very frustrating and I found it took away from any opportunity for a relaxing Spa experience. Still pissed off at having spent all that money for my treatments and being put in the position to say 'no' so many times. Read Less

Our cruise was February 18 to 25th 2018. Route was the Eastern Caribbean (Princess Cay, St. Thomas, St. Maarten) Our first impression was that the crew and customer service people were not very helpful. I feel that the tip system is unfair to the passengers and the attendants. Tips are automatically charged to the passenger’s credit card at the end of the cruise. This tells me everyone in a certain work group is given the same tip regardless of the level of service provided. We went to the Customer Service desk and removed the automatic tips so we could tip individually. We generally encountered too many people competing for too few resources; No chance of getting a deck chair unless you are willing to get out there at 6 am. Can’t believe that there’s not more “incidents” over this. Can’t anyone come up with a system that boosts customer satisfaction? Evening entertainment was way too short (30 – 45 minutes). Show quality was pretty sub-par. Too few seats in the theater. Better get there 40 minutes before the show if you want to get a seat. Anytime Dining option is a real joke. You don’t get anytime, you get a choice of the few limited times that they have in the dining rooms. Folks with dietary restrictions are out of luck. When you enter your restrictions in the “Cruise Personalizer” they don’t get communicated to the waiter. We even spent time with the maître d explaining the situation and he assured us they will get it right. Never happened. In general, the food was nothing to write home about. We had a balcony cabin on the Baja deck. The sea conditions for the first few nights were rough and windy but no hurricane. We had a lot of on and off banging of pipes or ductwork in the ceiling of our room and hallway. Neighboring cabins also complained of this. Bottom line, we didn’t get much sleep the first three nights. Doesn’t do much for my attitude on vacation. When we complained to the customer service desk we got a snotty answer that all ships make noise in rough weather. When I told this person I was going to put this in my review, she all of a sudden tried to be more attentive and that’s when I told her to see my review! The drain stopper in our sink was stuck shut. Had to wedge something in there to hold it up. Finally fixed after three days. If you are an exceptional dancer and like Latin and Ballroom, this is the cruise for you. The main gathering every night was in the Piazza area where couples danced to a very good band. Veterans, don’t forget to apply for the veteran’s credit when booking the cruise. Nobody tells you about this. Enjoy your cruise! Read Less

It was a gift. Although it was a gift, the person who paid for it realizes that he did not get good value for his $$ that he gave to us. We found the service staff to be unfriendly- Could use some training in customer service. We went on a shore excursion and when we discovered it was unsatisfactory (nothing like the published info on the Princess website); It was not worth any where near what we paid for it, When we mentioned the negative experience to the shore excursions desk on the ship, we were told in no uncertain terms that "there are no Guarantees in life and to basically tell someone who cares". So I would be very careful when reading what is published on the Princess website regarding their shore excursions. The food was barely etable. Selection and quality of the food did not have the same standard as other Cruise lines that I have been on many times. Would not recomend Princess and feel that our $$ were wasted. Read Less

We were totally unhappy with this cruise and I don't have enough room here to tell you about all of the things that were wrong. We had a balcony room and the door and the balcony were filthy when we checked in. The carpet was dirty and the whole time we were there (7 days and nights) the bathroom had a really bad smell to it. We could never get deck chairs to lay by the pool because they did not enforce their 30 minute rule for holding on to chairs there. The only time we had chairs on the deck was after dark for a televised Elton John concert. We went on one excursion for $49.95 each on one of our stops and it also was terrible--way overrated. We tipped our cabin steward on our own but were still billed $30.00 or more every day for gratuities. This cruise swore us off of ever going on another one. I must say that the first and only cruise we ever went on in January of 2011 on the Norwegian Epic was fabulous and I guess we were expecting something comparable on this one! NOT!!!!! Read Less

I have always been a Princess cruiser and have had a good experience but the Regal Princess was very disappointing in many areas. To start the food was below standards, We had signed up for any time dining, on three occasions we where handed a beeper and had to wait from 30-45 minutes to get a table. You had to pay for specialty foods, such as cappuccino, gelato, sushi. The restaurants that you had to pay to use, where below standards. We left because of bad service and bad food. When we complained to the head waiter all he could do was say he was sorry. We had waited two hours for our main course to be served, then left because our desert and waiter was no where to be found and we had to pay for this! When getting a massage at the spa, I was told that you had to pay extra for a robe and steam. Everything was extra on the trip. The excursion we took in Jamaica was delayed and we had to wait for our bus in the hot sun for 45 minutes before we could leave. It was very disorganized. The chair in some of the lounges where stained in need of replacement. For the elite and suite holders you had different lines for service, they have a different class experience. I feel you can pay for a better room but you shouldn't get better service. I wouldn't recommend regal princess to anyone. Read Less

I asked Princess for a partial refund and they never got back to me. Guess they don't care if I ever sail with them again. This was my first cruise and never have been treated so rudely by bartenders and customer service before. Never would I recommend Princess cruise line to anyone. They charge you by the day for Wifi while other cruise lines offer it for free. Felt like i was nickel and dimed the whole time. At breakfast time it is nearly impossible to find a table to sit at. You have to walk around for like 20 minutes and wait for someone to leave. There are also not enough pool chairs. have to walk around for like hours to find a few together. Read Less

We have been on many cruises and have not cruised princess in a while, so we decided to return to a cruise line that we loved and was one of our favorite. Embarkation in Copenhagen was great. It was rainy and windy and we breezed right in and were on the ship in less than an hour. We had traditional early dining and notice the menu had changed and not for the better. We are not picky eaters. There is very few dishes that I had in the dining room that were memorable. shrimp cocktail on the everyday menu was slimy. My veal scallopini was salty and cold. I was not impressed with the activities offered for the day as I had been on past Princess cruises. The entertainment was bad. the cruise ship entertainers, we walked out on 2 show and we have never walked out of any shows in the past. Beatlemania was fantastic, and the 2 singers were amazing, but the magic show we walked out on as well. We were informed we were avoiding hurricane Jose but then we changed course and cruised through it. the ship rocked and rolled for a number of days, worst seas we have every seen. yes we have done transatlantic cruises a number of times. We will not be cruising with princess again. Muts was useless, rainy, windy, no retractable roof pool like in the past. Read Less

If being vomited out of a cruise ship, into a city with 3000 of your fellow cruise mates and 6 other docked ships containing 2000-3000 people each is your idea of experiencing a city, than take a cruise. That's 15,000 people all vying for the same services. On our first day in St Petersburg, we stood in a 2.5 hour customs line, as the cruise ship released everyone within the same hour and a half and then blamed customs for going slow. Mismanagment by Princess is more like it, as they exited half day excursion passegners out at the same time as full day passengers creating a back log. No Princess employee came near the messy lines, no water for everyone standing for 2.5 hours in the sun. But, they told us they took pics from the deck to complain to someone up above, somewhere. Thanks for caring. After arriving at the Hermitage 3 hours later, and missing our slot, we were shoved through, with no space, air, or line of sight except the ceiling above as it was packed with tour group after tour group. Horrible experience. Food: The dining room is terrible food but you get good desserts (they use real ingredients for desserts only in the dining room). All the fish and most meat is unedible and soggy from frozen. On the other hand, the buffet the food is good (cuz u can see its condition before u eat it) but the desserts are bad. They use some sort of faux whip to make the desserts cheaper, so everything basically tastes the same. Ultimately, Princess is the same as every big corporate, money grubbing company that smiles when you are buying, but when things go bad, they stand behind their written agreement which has basically considered anything that could go wrong and make sure they told you so, so they can claim they covered that and keep your money. No shame. My recommendation- instead of being sheepled through cities, go on the off season and visit the city and stay for a while. You will have a much better experience and get to know the feel and culture of a place other, instead of just the mayhem of your fellow cruise passengers. The cruise ships have gotten greedy and are ruining cities for tourists and inhabitants alike. Its a very hollow and shallow experience. Read Less

We bought cruises for myself and my husband and both sets of parents. My husbands father fell ill before the cruise and could not travel. We cancelled the cruise so Princess could resell the room and if they did, we hoped they'd provide us with some refund. As the case with corporate, money grubbing companies that are not interested in doing the right thing, they did resell the room, and continue to refuse to do the right thing and refund us any moneys. So basically, dishonest, and hiding behind their terms and conditions which, of course, they make to deprive YOU or YOUR rights, or just simply doing the right thing, and as an excuse to act dishonestly because someone put something in writing somewhere. We will now hesitate to do this sort of thing in the future, prepay for services where a big corporations have your money and will not give it back, under any circumstance. They are ripping everyone off with insurance too. Its just another profit center. This ship is too large to handle the passport control in St Petersburg. We (and many others) missed our fully paid excursion as a result of the four hours it took us to get through passport control. We then had no choice but to return to the ship. We fully followed all procedures set by the cruise. Princess refused to acknowledge or deal with this matter. Royal Caribbean had a cruise ship docked next to ours. We could see from our long lines at passport control that the RC passengers had no problem getting through passport control since that was a smaller cruise ship. This was our first (and last) time cruising on Princess. The experience was otherwise acceptable, except for the constant loud audio from the large screen theater on the pool deck, which was difficult to avoid when we wanted to sit outside and do some quiet reading. The incompetence continues, my selected sail date shows the itinerary as a 14 night cruise, its actually a 7 night cruise, even this they cant get right. First I would like to say I have taken 15 cruises with many different cruise lines so I come to know what to expect and not. Okay that being said. First the embarkation, we waited outside standing in line an hour and 40 minutes because they said the US Coast Guard was not letting anyone on the ship, once inside we were then herded like 3rd graders into sections, not a cup of coffee or water was offered as we waited. I will say 70% of the staff could hardly speak english so navigating around the ship at first was difficult. They offered no daily drink special the entire cruise, there was never any music being played on the pool deck, movies on the big screen, Yes. It was very inspiring and lively seeing couch potatoes (more like baked potatoes) sitting in the sun watching movies. Other than the dining room and speciality restaurants the rest of the staff is less than adequate. While walking to areas of the ship, they would cut you off in your path as they went to and from their stations and kitchen areas, they were obviously annoyed and not friendly at all, best way to explain it is, they were doing a job. The state room? (mini suite) upon kicking my shoes off to relax on the rug was a french manicure nail tip and in the closet area by the bathroom was a used Q-tip, once the clothes were put away and the luggage slid under the bed I saw a crumbled up cookie, ice in the bucket was hit and miss, bed sheets and pillow cases had to be removed by me on the 2nd day, I swear they weren't have been changed if I didn't do that. Food at the buffet was hit and miss, meaning sometimes it was warm and at times cold, it was NEVER hot. If you have cruised before you will know what I mean, when they swap out the trays of near empty food, they take the tray and walk away and come back later with a full tray instead of carrying the full tray to the buffet counter and swapping it out. soooo back on line to get what was missing, no available tables to eat at as the staff took forever to clean off the empty tables, 2 things that really pissed me off and showed how cheap they are (1) they served me a martini is a plastic cup (2) the glasses they give you at lunch and dinner for ice tea, water etc are so small that with ice cubes in it 3 sips and you have to try and flag them down to get more. Smoke cigars? they have a nice cigar bar called Churchhill's it should be called the Cigarette Bar as the room, which is ridiculously small smells like cigarette smoke and there was hardly a empty seat even IF you wanted to smoke a cigar. I know you must be saying oh smoke is smoke but as a cigar smoker just like a wine drinker there is a certain flavor to be desired. The room itself was filled with dirt white ash trays and empty cocktail glasses. This is no lie, the only time I saw staff in there was when they were on cigarette break, yes thats right the staff co mingled and smoked along with the guest. I brought along 3 cigars and I was able to smoke one (2 am place was empty) the other 6 or so try's the place was packed with cigarette smokers. I am a retired building superintendent for over 20 years so my eye for cleanliness and working order is keen, that being said most the glass doors, counters, elevator panels and handrails always had hand smudges, the places that had ledges like door frames and picture frames never passed my finger wipe test, which tells me they staff does does do its job and that's all on management not doing their job, which in turn is the trickle down effect. If you are going to do a beach excursion, just get off and grab a taxi. It cost 4 people $24 round trip as opposed to $39.95 per person getting on a bus, but to be fair ALL the cruise lines rip you off, I just wanted to offer some advice on excursions. I could go on with other examples and comments of displeasure from other passengers but i do think you get what I am trying to say. Oh! remember the line on embarkation i mentioned at the start of this review??? on disembarkation we passed the passengers waiting to embark and needless to say the natives were restless, I stopped and asked a couple if they have been waiting long and they said yes and that the US Coast Guard wasn't letting passengers on until the ship was cleared. I just took my first Princess cruise. I was very disappointed. 1. No hair conditioner? Even 2 Star hotels supply this. Especially now, that TSA won’t permit more than 3 ounces of liquid etc., and there was no warning! The product in the showers and Thermal Suite changing room, labelled “Shampoo and Conditioner” do not work. The shampoo in it overrides any conditioner, and one merges with brittle, crackling, dried out hair. I had to put Coconut Oil on mine to get a comb through it. 2. The pools are FREEZING! And crowded. Some of us enjoy swimming in the evening, when the massive crowds have dispersed, and we don’t have to worry about skin cancer and damage. I know your ships travel all over the world, and there are only a few places and times of year, that the water will be warm enough naturally. Also, no retractable roofs? My ship, the Regal, left for Europe after I got off. The Atlantic in April is cold, and windy, as is Europe, often, especially in the North. How does anyone use the pools under such conditions? And why are there no adult only pools? During daytime, the pool areas looked like Coney Island on July 4 - nightmare. And the hordes of near naked bodies draped everywhere, soaking up the sun, made one feel as though they were in a sardine can. Also, the pools are listed as being open ‘till midnight, but were closed by 10:30. I was told the staff go up there, and if no one is around, they close the pools. But passengers will often plan a late swim, based on the information provided, gleefully head up to the pool at 11 PM, and find it closed. Makes no sense. 3.We had to wait, like refugees, over an hour, after getting through the line to check in, because the Coast Guard was conducting it’s bi-annual check. Understood, but why weren’t we contacted to put off arriving ‘till later? After checking in (and being handed medical forms to fill out, even though we’d filled them out online?), we were herded into a huge warehouse, and ordered into areas, on folding chairs. A rude woman came by and yelled: “Don’t leave anything in the isles, or someone will trip over it, and SUE you! Yuk yuk yuk!” Is this the way to speak to passengers? Or TREAT us? I felt like I was a criminal. Or a refugee just arrived on Ellis Island. Horrible. 4. We finally got on board, and no one could get an elevator up to their cabin! Many of them said: “reserved”. Why would the ship reserve elevators, for other uses, just when 3000 people are trying to get up to their cabins? And staff were not trained properly. Several desperate people decided to walk upstairs, but we were directed to stairs that ended in doors, leading to employee areas! 5. I saw staff using passenger elevators. This too, contributed to the endless wait for elevators for the duration of the cruise. Don’t they have their own elevators? 5. The bathrooms look institutional, like a hospital or something. We go on cruises to feel elegant - not sure I understand the decorating choice. 6. Why were there no closet doors? I felt like I was in a student dorm. 7. The people clearing our plates, should not also be the people bringing us coffee, juice, tea etc. Unsanitary, and contrary to trying to keep us all well. (I got bronchitis and Laryngitis on the cruise, and had to take antibiotics etc.) 8. My Steward would repeatedly fold my wet towels, and put them back on the rack. I’d go to get a fresh towel, and it would be sopping wet! Who DOES that? I had to leave him a note - explaining that wet towels will NEVER dry, if folded up and packed tightly into a rack. 9. The cabins are small, even my “Deluxe” balcony, and the walls thin - I could hear the man next door sneezing all the time. And the balconies are teeny. Why? 10. Why are the tile loungers in the Thermal suite not heated? 11. The towels are old and need replacing. Also, not the best quality. 12. No DVD players in cabins. Many people like to bring their own selections. 13. The CFL light bulbs are horrible. They give off awful light, are bad for the environment, and are bad for us humans as well. 14. No magnifying make-up mirror in bathroom. 15. No coffee maker in cabins. 16. I ordered hot chocolate one morning, and got a pot of water, with a little chocolate powder dissolved in it. Disgusting! I checked, and it’s the same in the Horizon dining room. 17. Costa parked next to us in Antigua, and literally BLARED steel drum music on the dock, from 8:30 AM ‘till around 5 PM, at which point they switched to recorded disco, blasted at such a level, I thought the buildings in town would shake and fall down. My balcony was facing this mess. Earplugs dd nothing. Since Princess owns COSTA now too, can they explain to them that this is impossibly inconsiderate? 18. My first day using the Thermal Suite, my locker broke and I had to wait a half hour, to get into it, and be able to dress and leave. They said the battery in the lock died or was low. May I suggest reverting to old fashioned KEYS, that don’t have batteries that die? 19. Many complaints over incredible RUDENESS of passengers, not allowing people to exit elevators before they pounce in, stuffing themselves onto overcrowded elevators, instead of waiting for the next one, and complaints about elderly “Elites” throwing family’s towels off chairs etc., yelling: “It’s been 15 minutes!” etc. Really disgraceful. Perhaps some gentle reminders to let people off elevators, before charging in? 20. The lights on the balcony never go on. Apparently, they interfere with the bridge’s visibility. I don’t get it, as virtually every other ship going manages to go with balcony lights on? Very disapointing - not being able to sit on your balcony at night, with a glass of wine, and gaze at the sea. It’s just black. Can’t see anything. 21. The incessant BLARING on the pool deck, from the giant movie screen. I understand movies at night - but they had that thing going ALL DAY- concerts, sports, you name it! What happened to a peaceful cruise? Contemplating the beauty of the sea, and the sound of the waves? Reading, napping, exercising, talking? 22. I took the Blackbeard’s Castle tour. We waited outside in blazing sun, for 30 minutes, while local tour guides scrambled, arranged, and re arranged who would go on which tiny bus. No air conditioning on mine. I thought I would pass out. I didn’t wear sun block on my legs, as I thought I was getting right on a covered bus. Then, the tour bus driver pulls us into this place where all his friends are selling tourist junk. Another half hour. The castle itself, takes ten minutes to see. I could have WALKED there. Horrible experience. 23. How cheap can you get? 27. Limited room service menu. On other ships one looks forward to having delicious items delivered to you cabin. Not here. I've been on 4 Cunard cruises, a Viking Ocean cruise, and Windstar. This was NOT acceptable. The positives, were the staff in the Spa and Salon. The staff in the main dining room - but clearly, harried, understaffed and overworked. They do a great job, despite the circumstances. Also, the gentleman from Italy, in charge of the Sanctuary area - he is top form - as the entire ship SHOULD be. Read Less
