The main dining room was nothing that made me want to come back every night and the specialty dinning were always booked. 4. The shows were great one of the best . 6. The wait times at the O’sheehan’s restaurant is more than 30 minutes for you to get just half and order of chicken wings. 7. We were woken up every single day from the engine noise and guest service didn’t do anything about it , they wanted to try to move us at night on the 6th day.8.Barely any activities unless they want you to spend money . 9. This was the trip during Hurricane Dorian, the captains communication was horrible , we were intended to set sail from Cozumel on Friday and arrive in Miami on Sunday morning , the captain changed his mind so many times that we couldn’t leave when we needed to since people were partying overnight thinking the ship will leave at 4am . NCL has lost a costumer , will not cruise with them again the service has significantly decline , they are so focused in making you waste money on specialty dining and everything else that the costumer service has declined . Our Anniversary cruise. Had a horrible experience with the hotel staff. Had unruly teens in the room next to us. Wrestling and bouncing off the walls. Swearing and screaming on the balcony. Every day all hours. My wife could not sleep. I could not nap and was forced out of the room due to noise. Racing up and down the halls. Staff could not get them under control. We called or visited the service desk at least 8 times on this issue. At one point my wife and I left the room and the kids were in the hall. They heckled us and yelled at us. I truly felt threatened. I went directly to the service desk and qas told they could not control the situation. I asked one more time whether they intended to do something and the girl at the desk refused. We were so afraid of retaliation on the last night my wife stayed in the room until our luggage was picked up so those kids could not vandalize it, losing her last night on the ship. Now the cruise staff, entertainment, housekeeping and food were stellar! We have cruised many many times on RCL and these items were soo much better. Unfortunate that the Hotel staff let a bunch of teens traumatize us. I have a NCL cruise booked for 2021 and was considering another in 2020. I may cancel NCL to go where we feel safe. Read Less

I have faithfully sailed NCL for 6 of my 8 Cruises however, this last cruise on the Breakaway has severely challenged my loyalty. We sailed August 11th out of Miami returning on the 18th in cabin 9158. Beginning with Embarkation at the NCL facility in Miami. Upon entering the building I asked a staff member where the Latitudes preferred check in was and I was directed to a line. I asked if it was the Latitudes preferred line and they said yes. Well it wasn't. Thus ensued a lengthy wait. Once on board I have to say I was pleased with the cabin. Nice, clean and enough room. But that would change. On the third day the shower would not drain and filled up about five inches of water inside the shower enclosure. My wife had no choice but to open the door and the bathroom flooded. I told the room attendant and he looked at it immediately and fixed the clog but thereafter the bathroom smelled of urine. Additionally, the room attendant converted the couch to a bed for our third party however, he never changed it back, it remained a bed for the entire week and we had no place to sit other than where we slept. As for dining, the food in the main dining rooms, Savor, Taste and the Buffet, to paraphrase Rodney Dangerfield in Caddy Shack; "the food was low grade dog food!" We had no choice but to go to the premium restaurants which led to the problem of getting a reservation. I approached the Hostess at Cagney's at 530 PM. There were only 3 tables occupied and no one in the waiting area. I asked if there were any openings and she bluntly stated I would have to have a seat and wait. I said are there any cancellations and she said, I told you to sit and wait. So we went to O'Sheahans which has a very limited menu but the food is edible. While waiting for our food a drunk woman bumped into my grand son causing him to spill his whole glass of Mountain Dew on the table. It took no less than 23 minutes to get someone to wipe it up. When the waiter finally came to the table and said; "what happened?' in a very disgusting tone. He cleaned it up, somewhat, and stormed off with asking if we needed another drink which we never got. We had exactly two decent meals on the whole trip and both were at Margueritaville. We were really disappointed with the pool deck. This class of ship is cramming too much onto the pool deck and there is no room. Pool was way too crowded and there was the ever present issue of seat saving. They should revisit the pool deck of the Epic. it is perhaps the best pool deck on any ship. As for the water park, half the slides were closed for maintenance the entire cruise. there was also a lot of puddles all over the pool deck which were a hazard, one of which I had the misfortune to slip and fall on. Crew members walked around me as two other passengers helped me to my feet. I was afraid to go to the medical facility as I went there earlier for a band aid and they charged me a $1.00. Seeing a doctor would have bankrupted me. But I digress. The excursions were ok however I wish we would have been warned about having to walk several blocks top our bus in Costa Maya. That was pretty bad. Other than that the excursions were ok. The service overall was mediocre to bad. The waiters pool side brushed us off many times and to be honest I have never had a poolside waiter walk away from me before. The waiters in the restaurants were slow and did not do anything to warrant a tip. Except one waiter in La Cucina. His name was Salvin and he was incredible. His attention was awesome his service was timely and perfect and his attitude was great. I would promote this guy and make him head of training he was that dam good. I really don't feel that we achieved much value for our money. Service was bad, food was bad, and issues with the stateroom. I have now sailed the Getaway and Breakaway and decided this class of ship is not worth my money any more. Read Less

We picked this cruise for our honeymoon because it went to Honduras and Belize which we had never been to before. While booking, we were excited about the free at sea options, we picked the beverage package and either the $50 to dining or WiFi (can’t remember). None of that mattered though because once we boarded, we didn’t have the drink package or anything else. We went to guest services and they said that was an issue with the internet services and that they couldn’t do anything about it. I emailed NCL about it once we got back and they haven’t contacted me. It was all just very impersonal, service was just okay. No one even congratulated us on our wedding. On Royal Caribbean, we always had a good time talking with our stateroom steward and dining room servers, but we didn’t have that kind of bond with any of the staff on the Breakaway. The food at the included restaurants was slightly better than Royal Caribbean. We did not pay for any extra food or shows. I thought it was irritating that you had to pay more for so many of the shows. I also hated that you had to reserve a spot at many of the shows because they booked up so early! The pool was incredibly tiny on deck which made our 2 days at sea less enjoyable and not having the drink package which we selected also did not help. It was easy to disembark the ship at the ports and we had the most fun on our excursions off the boat during the cruise. One of our excursions was cancelled while we were waiting on site for the boat to take us snorkeling in Harvest Caye. We got our money back, but I was looking forward to snorkeling on the barrier reef and it was irritating that it was cancelled so last second. All in all, the cruise was just ok but impersonal. NCL needs to work on their guest/ customer service. I would not cruise with them again. Read Less

I have been on over 35 cruises my second in two years on the Breakaway. FOOD The food was still good, however it really irks me that they have done away with Lobster night. Also seemed to be a lot more nickel and diming the customers. ROOM Our room steward was the worst I have ever experienced. After 2 straight mornings of him running the vacuum in the hall at 8 am, I asked him to why he was doing it so early and not waiting until more passengers were out of their rooms. He told me because it was dirty, I pointed out that it could wait. He also argued with me regarding that I ordered distilled water even after I showed him the email confirmation. I complained the phone did not work, he said he would take care of it. I checked later that day and it still did not work, so I asked him and he said he fixed it. I told him he did not and told him to follow me back to the room to show him it did not work. Friends of ours 2 rooms down, said he broke their son’s glasses that were laying on the bed. Yes they should not have been left on the bed, but he could at least own up to it. He forgot to leave them towels and when they called him, he said he was off duty, talk about terrible customer service! EXCURSION In Roatan, we did the ultimate resort for a day, what a nightmare. There was a strike and the road was blocked the driver turned around and almost got t-boned. He then took us on a one lane dirt road up a mountain, with cars and trucks coming the other way. All of us in the van asked him to take us back to the ship, which he refused. We got there after an hour and half, he told us he would pick us up an hour early. The service was terrible, we had to wait 45 minutes for drinks and they were not very busy. They also warned us about sand flies, so we used off and did not even go the beach, just used the upper pool which was high above the beach. My wife got 11 bites anyway. When we left, we were half way back to the ship, he had to turn around for 2 more passengers, we get there and there are 6 more, but only room for 4, and there was another van coming in 10 minutes. We should never had to go back for any of them. We complained to the excursion desk, I told them I didn’t want any compensation, but rather they needed to know the terrible experience to drop the excursion. They listened and then told us that we had our allotted time, I explained we did not since we were an hour late getting there and picked up and hour early. Again terrible customer service. Bottom line the service has declined! Read Less

The frustrating: Beginning at embarkation, things were just rough. The people checking us in were unfriendly, and our keys to our rooms were not correct. Once on board, the main water slides were not working (the entire week), the adult only pool was closed (the entire week), and customer service was deplorable. Customer service was not only rude to me, but I heard them be very rude to several other passengers. The entertainment was not family friendly although it was advertised as Cirque Dreams when we booked. One show was 18+ and the other was a burlesque/cabaret. Also, no more towel animals. The first 24 hours, our toilet quit flushing 4 separate times. The good: We were in a mini-suite balcony - 13228. It was a very nice-sized room for our family of four. It offered a king bed, a couch that made out into a single bed, and a murphy bed that folded down from the ceiling. The bathroom was nice sized and the shower was huge and had great pressure. We enjoyed dining on this NCL a little more than in the past. The best entertainment we've seen on 4 NCL cruises was Sy Norman's Pourhouse band. Fantastic singers, nice people. Read Less

We chose this cruise based upon itinerary and value. We had not been to the Southwestern Caribbean and wanted a late summer vacation before school started in August. I had read mixed reviews on the ship but went in with an open mind. I also knew that this would be full of families and children. We boarded in Miami and it was a very smooth and quick process. IF you are bringing wine onboard, a tip is to walk right by the wine check in station so that you don't pay the stupid NCL corkage fee. For some reason, NCL makes you walk the length of the ship (outside) before entering. After walking through just a few areas inside of the ship, you begin to smell very stale cigarette smoke odor. Then as you continue and pass the 3 deck open area midship (decks 6, 7, 8) flanked on all sides by the casino on deck 7. The stench is extremely prevalent and hits you in the face. Why ANY cruise line would design a casino open to a major part of the ship is beyond stupid. If I had to get to the Aft or Forward Lobby (elevator banks) I decided to go outside on The Waterfront and bypass the center of the ship. That in itself is why I will never book any NCL ship in this class. Overall experience was poor and we will not be going back to NCL again. Positives: The food in the main dining rooms was very good. Previously, our only other NCL experience had very bad food and led us to discover (need for) specialty restaurant dining which we do now on every cruise. I was very pleasantly surprised. The service in each dining room is not consistent but pretty good overall. We did breakfast in Savor each morning after experiencing the jammed buffet on day 1. The service and food during breakfast was very good. The specialty dining this time was just average, I liked the mix but it was nothing great. We ate at Le Bistro, Cagney's, and La Cucina. Each was nice but just average food and service. I loved Wine Lovers The Musical and highly recommend that. The Waterfront is excellent quiet area to sit and relax however they put the life boats in front of it so the view of the ocean is somewhat impaired. The disembarkation process of self assist worked very well and the face recognition technology for customs worked very well. Line up at 6:45 am for a 7:30 am release so that you do not have to wait down the deck 7 corridor within the casino. Negatives: I mentioned the smell. Also the layout of the ship just seemed to be difficult to follow. The elevators are very thin and dark. The buffet had the same things mostly for breakfast and lunch so we chose the dining room for breakfast. We did not eat dinner at the buffet but they did have theme nights which looked interesting but the food did not look very appetizing. During the lunch and breakfast times, the buffet is extremely crowded but the servers do a decent job of keeping up the tables. The pool deck seemed to smaller than other ships we have sailed and so also crowded. The H2O Zone at the aft was a cool place but the large open air bar there is a smoking area which makes the entire area a smoking area. The soaking pool area there was closed the entire cruise to repair tiles but the hot tub was working - if you could tolerate the cigars and smoke from the adjacent bar. The sports area was big and the slides looked fun however with the thousands of teens and kids onboard, I was not going to wait in those lines. We only had two sea days so I could have participated on port days but did not. The entertainment was also not too good. Burn the Floor was pretty good but Rock of Ages was way too loud and I grew up with those songs. I had to leave after 5 minutes. Many others did as well. Some of the live music around the ship was decent but with the ship feeling so crowded and having to sit in some areas dealing with the stale smoke odor was disappointing. The demographic of this particular sailing had many teens and families blowing off steam before school starts so most public areas were very loud, and difficult to enjoy the live music options. The gym is also very poorly designed with very limited machines, very small free weight area. The cardio section across the hall facing outward had a decent amount of treadmills and elliptical machines but don't expect to work out in the morning on a day at sea. This ship is too crowded and gym too small to accommodate that amount of people. I would think twice about booking this ship due to the odor, design, and crowded feeling in most every venue. The food was above average but the other negatives really provided us with a disappointing experience. Read Less

Nothing is included No bottles of water despite paying for a drink package!! Private islands? Pay for food, drinks etc and at a ridiculous price!!! 4.50 for a bottle of water you must be insane. No buffet nothing at private islands either (Carnival and Royal have it) While most of the staff are friendly and pleasant some of your bartenders especially on the pool deck need customer service training...If they didn't have some kind of nasty attitude they had poor service (1 clown lost my card and decided it was funny Overall I was very disappointed with this cruise... We are Miami locals that took our first cruise with NCL. We booked with an agent and the booking process was painless. The day we set sail was smooth and very well guided. Within an hour we had settled in our room, and had a bite to eat in the main dining halls. We made some last minute entertainment reservations at one of the manned kiosks set up just for the embarkation process. When we returned to our room, the luggage was already delivered. The entire process is very streamlined and pleasant. Dining on the ship is one area that I had hoped would be better. The buffet is large and well stocked with good choices, and the quality is what you would expect from a decent buffet. The main dining rooms and other eating areas are not much better that the buffet fare. The service we received from the dining areas was always next level, top notch. That may have taken a little from the food, as service of this caliber usually comes with top notch food. I recommend steering clear of any "steak" from the complimentary menus. The specialty restaurants are a different story. The food is much better and is worth adding to your vacation package. I had a well cooked, and perfectly marbled Ribeye from Cagney's, and had dinner twice at Teppanyaki. I have been to a few hibachi style restaurants and both of my meals there were better than what I was used to. The Beverage service was basic but not lacking. We had the premium beverage package and never had to wait long to be served. The bars are well located on the ship, and the servers are generous when making drinks. My wife would rather drink Pepsi than tequila, and found having to wait at the bar for a soft drink to be inconvenient. Our experience was drastically soured by a Bartender in the Headliners venue that was extremely rude to my wife on the second to last evening. His actions seem like a departure to the service culture on board, but it was bad enough to keep us from ever considering NCL in the future. The Ports were not the greatest for me. Living near the beach in South Florida, I don't get too excited about laying in the Sun. I was also travelling with a 6 year old, so some activities were not available to me. Roatan. None of the excursions that I could do with my daughter appealed to me, but knowing that Harvest Caye is a default beach/boat day, I felt compelled to purchase an excursion. We went to Maya Key. The cost to book Maya Key on the ship was much more than the payoff to go, but after forgetting the price, it was a pleasant day. We enjoyed posing for pictures with birds and monkeys, and had a relaxing day on the private island. There is a pool on the island and a sandy beach with chairs. We left the island early to try to walk around the area surrounding the port. I could not walk more than one block away from the secure area without being concerned for my family's safety. I may have been being overprotective, and always try to be open to other cultures, but I don't recommend being a pedestrian outside the Port in Roatan. Harvest Caye was exactly what we thought it would be, but in a good way. I wasn't looking to sit/swim on a beach because I always have easy access to the beach. I do enjoy a day at the beach, and this island is great for this. Get off the boat first to get one of the free chairs under an umbrella and be better off than the ones paying for the distant clamshells. There was a LOT of jellyfish in the area and multiple people were stung, but a large portion of the bay is screened in and much safer, if swimming ouside of this area, stay vigilant. There is a small exhibit showing Macaws and butterflies and local flowers. Nothing mindblowing, but worth seeing. I rented a paddle board and kayak and both were reasonably priced. Fun day, but no reason to make a early return to the ship. Costa Maya is where we decided to do the Mayan Ruins excursion to Chacchoben. We booked through the ship and were whisked away to the ruins (1.5hr ride) in comfort while or guide spoke with us about local culture. The ruins were impressive and we were returned to the port with time to eat and shop. The Port area is not a place for local culture. Everything in the area is built only for cruise ship passengers. Nice, safe, plastic. Cozumel was fun. We wanted to do an exciting excursion, but could not book through ship due to age of our daughter. We were able to find an ATV excursion within 5 minutes that would allow our girl to ride. because they were bending the rules, we were given a private tour (Guide on one machine, wife on another, and my girl and I on the third). We were brought to a mud "playground" and encouraged to have as much fun as we could. Our guide was very warm and friendly and answered all of the questions we could think of. Where we returned the machines was a flea market about 3 blocks North of the port. the vendors sell the same things that are found in the shops at much lower prices. I was able to average a selling price about half the asking price on most items. My advice, say no to ALL tequila tastings. They are delicious, and are hard to say no to. The return day at sea I planned to sleep and relax. My wife made sure that didn't happen and kept the day full of shows and events. It was worth it. If you happen to smoke, there are few places to do so on board. It was so inconvenient to smoke that I actually quit the habit on board. Hopefully that continues, and I will save enough $$$ to pay for next vacation. I summary, the trip was a pleasant experience. If not for the incident with a server so close to the end, it would have been remarkable. I would try to find a better itinerary. During Disembarkation, a passenger fell in front of me and I stopped to help her up. My family continued walking and they were routed to the front of the ship. They rerouted me to the rear and we were unable to find each other going through customs. Make sure that you stay together as a group when traveling, and never depend on cell service. A family set of walkie talkies is a great investment. Read Less

Entertainment in the bars/lounges was mediocre. The theater entertainer/comic/illusionist was the same both weeks we were onboard. Rock of Ages is a play that is enjoyed by only a limited number of people. Something that appeals to all age groups would be better. Entertainment has gone down since doing away with the Le Ann Ryan (sp) Singers and Dancers. The Cirqe Dinner Show that the Breakaway had in 2013 was a hit, but a wine luncheon has taken place of it, which cannot be enjoyed by all. Quality of food was not good. Since adding the specialty restaurants, the qualify of food in the dining rooms has deteriorated. The prices of the speciality restaurants are higher than on land, and food has already been included in the price of the cruise. Lobster night is always a big hit on a cruise, but the Breakaway has done away with this, while it is still being enjoyed on other cruise lines, even Carnaval. O'Sheeans was thoroughly enjoyed! We had an excellent omelet every morning at a time that suited us. The balcony on our cabin was so shallow that my husband, who has lost a leg, was unable to go on it with his motorized scooter and shut the balcony door. Read Less

We took this cruise so that our 9 year old daughter could see a sloth in Roatan Honduras. Fortunately, that went wonderfully! All of the ports were great. Embarkation and disembarkation were handled well although the disembarkation was a little late, but only by 15-20 minutes. Not a big deal at all. The ship: The ship was nice and things seemed refreshed. The pools are NOT good. They are not sufficient for the number of people on board and I'm pretty sure that after about an hour, the makeup of the pool was about 50% water, 50% pee. The slides were great and our daughter liked them. The putt putt course was nice My daughter loved the sky-hike type thing, especially the "walk the plank" part. That was really neat. The wait was about 30-45 minutes, but it was worth it. The cabin was nice although at night the toilet would fill with water and you'd have to push the flush thing about 15 times (no exaggeration) before it would flush. Always a joy in the wee hours of the morning to have to hold your pee while repeatedly pushing the toilet flush button. Service was the worst I have ever had on a cruise (20+ cruises). Most, not all, of the workers seemed like they didn't care if you were happy. There were eyerolls when asking for ice cream from the ice cream person. Same from a waiter when asking for a drink. The mandatory "tip" aka service charge has removed any incentive for the employees to provide good service. I will not return simply because the service was so bad, but.... The food was also the worst I have had on a cruise. It all seemed microwaved or from a freezer. No lobster night. To get seated, you may wait 30-45 minutes. Only two of the waiters we had were passable as good. One of the good ones disappeared for about 20 minutes and came back smelling like a cigarette. Tables weren't cleared/cleaned like other cruises. Entertainment was mostly by reservation only. We got to watch "burn the floor" and it was a good show. Every other cruise I have been on you could just show up and find a seat. Also, when booking this cruise, they promised free wifi, drinks, excursion credits, but after booking it was all gone. And customer service literally told my wife she messed it up and she should have had someone do it for her. Not your typical customer service response. To put it plainly, I wouldn't cruise with Norwegian again. Read Less

I have been on the Breakaway from NY on 2 other occasions, in the past the staff was friendly and the food offerings had better varieties and better quality. This time around the overall experience was not good at all. The staff were not really friendly at all, most the employees came across angry. They allowed smoking in the casinos and the ventilation was horrible. The general dining restaurants were at best OK and the wait service at Teppenaki was not good at all, but the cook was very good. On the nights at the Garden Cafe that was specialty nights, it turned out to be just plain buffet food, not special at all. We had a spa balcony cabin with unlimited access to the spa, that was not a change from our prior trips, clean, private spa with limited access, so it provided some haven for time to relax. Casino was terrible, the comps are horrible, so don't plan to get a lot of comps if you are playing at the casino, they are extremely cheap. We did not travel with our kids this time, but it seemed like there was a mild amount of kids on board and seemed well behaved. We we did a shore excursion and it went well. The main reason why I gave this a poor rating is due to 4 main issues 1- Food quality overall was less than good 2- Employees just did not seem to care and were not friendly 3- Disembarkation was extremely slow, even though we had priority disembarkation spent extra money for nothing 4- All inclusive with airfare but no opportunity to upgrade Read Less

Embarkation was simple and easy. Went right into ship. However, very little direction given once you were on the ship. Room - Room was nice 9244. I suggest that room if you can get it as it has an oversize balcony. Service in the room is far below what we have experienced on Royal Caribbean and/or Carnival. Simply, he made our bed and changed towels. Nothing more. The issue in the room was he charged us on the first day for a bottle of whisky and a red bull. However, we had never even opened the refrigerator. We finally (on the last day) got the charges off. The service wasn't bad it was just nothing like other cruise lines. Food - Simply put the idea of free style dinning is a farce. They tell you that you can choose from many different restaurants every night that are complimentary. However, they all serve the same menu. The food was usually luke warm at best as it is made in a central kitchen and then delivered around the ship. The food was simply mediocre. I have had better food at a Dennys. The first night we ate at O'Sheens (not sure how to spell it) it was without a doubt the worst service and worst meal we have ever had on a cruise ship. We were provided three waters and then our "waiter" took our order. Then we never saw from him again for over an hour. When they did finally deliver our prime ribs, they were disgusting. WAY over cooked and not even warm. The waiter set them down and walked away without speaking. It was so bad we simply left and went to the buffet. The buffet on the 15th floor is pretty good actually. Well staffed and well stocked. The service and attendants were awesome and friendly. Food was what you expected it to be.. Shows - Burning the Floor was one of the best I have seen on a ship, Broadway worthy. However, many shows cost extra money and you had to rush on the ship to make reservations. This is no an all inclusive ship. You have to pay for many many many things. They are constantly hounding you to attend an way over priced art action that is the same art you find on almost every ship and cruise line. Comedy shows were a bit raunchy for what was supposedly a PG13 show. Casino - STINKS, smells like an ashtray. The MALE dealers were almost all rude and unfriendly. The claimed to have $10 black jack tables but then rarely opened them up. The casino is in the central walk was so you are forced to walk through it. Then they are rude to children who stop and look at the lights. The casino was a serious letdown because of the attitude of the dealers. Numerous other players complained about the contrast between the male and female dealers. COMMUNICATIONS APP - DONT BUY IT. IT doesn't work. We spent $30 for all three of us to use it. The phone portion of the app never worked,...... NOT ONCE. We couldnt even call the front desk. The text messaging simply did not work. You would send the messages and the other person would never receive them. When you are using this to communicate with children this is a problem. I went to the desk to ask for a refund and was told they would not do it as it is all done electronically. Trivia games - These games were often and fun. Allowed for lots of people to play and participate. However, it is located next to and beneath an open air bar and many times you could not hear the game or movie that was playing. The staff who manages and run these fun games was outstanding. Children's games. They had many games around the ship and a full game room. However, $160 to play a video game is unbelievable. These are games that are .25 cents. The game rooms were mostly empty the entire cruise. The rock climbing wall only had one person running it with a line 50 people deep. He was eastern European with a serious rude attitude. The head three ropes and courses but only one attendant. The wait time exceeded two hours. Even after numerous people complained there was no change during the entire cruise. Putt Putt golf course did not have enough putters or balls. The game room had many games but not one had all the pieces. This room was a total wast. Both the game room and the library were full of kids screaming and yelling. There were no cruise staff there to maintain it in any way. Internet - When it worked it was "ok" at best. However, the round every minute so if you use it for 1 minute and 3 seconds they deduct 2 minutes. Since it takes a full minute to get connected, you are charged usually 3 -5 minutes to connect. If it is NOT free, dont pay for it. \ Excursions - we did the beach and snorkeling in Honduras. Enjoyed it. However, we basically paid $300 to ride a bus to a beach, borrow a make, snorkel and fins. The lunch that was served was terrible and not very good. This was our 18th cruise and first on Norwegian. We will most likely never cruise with them again. The free style dinning is not very good and the food is mediocre to below average. I would not cruise this cruise line again unless it was an unbelievable deal. Read Less

We were so excited to go on a cruise. We planned shore excursions for each port, got the drink package for on boat fun and were ready for a lot of fun. The excursions were awesome, every one was fun in a different way. But the service on the boat was terrible. From day one we were not treated nicely by the outside bartender at Shakers. Because we had 7 days and the drink package, we decided to give each bar on the ship a try at some point. Everyone that worked there seemed miserable, with the exception of 5 employees. Everyone seemed overworked, no one went out of there way to be nice. When the bar was slow, we’d try to talk to the bartenders and it seemed like we were a bother. We were never drunk and with both of us being in the service industry we know how to treat people with respect. At the restaurants the servers were short with us, rude at some points. Like I said, there were 5-6 people that were nice, respectful and tried to make sure everyone had fun. May Ann and Juliet in the Manhattan room remembered us by name, they were always laughing and smiling and fun and happy to be around. Also, Hector, James and Jason at the Vibe Bar area... they always kept us laughing and they were nice to be around. Finally, Bernicio was the housekeeper for our room, he was super fast and respectful. He said good morning to us every morning and for them we were grateful. Room service however was a joke. We tried to order at least 4 times. The first time they told us 45 mins, we waited for over an hour and a half before trying to call them. They didn’t answer and we had to go to guest services to even just cancel it. The next 3 times we tried to call the phone rang for over 3 minutes without an answer so we decided room service wasn’t for us. My aunt is a diamond cruiser and she let us know this is not how it usually is, and this isn’t the treatment I received on my last Carnival cruise. I am not sure if it was because the people were overworked and tired, or if it was because we are a young same sex couple. Either way I thought it was insane because had the service been what it should be the cruise experience would have been elevated to another level. The only other thing that was upsetting is that everything comes with an additional cost, the Ice Bar has a cover charge, iced coffee has an added cost... and so much more. I can order $12-15 patron shots all day long if I want but I can’t get a $3 iced coffee without it being added to my bill. The way they keep people separated by $$ was sad also, there were 4+ restaurants we didn’t try because of the $70+ additional cost for the two of us, the Vibe beach club was for people that want to pay $200 more per person for the week to be separated from the rest of us, and the Haven for the wealthy, they have their own elevator, restaurant and pool and never need to associate themselves with the likes of the rest of us. As if all of the rest of us didn’t pay enough as it is to come on the cruise, we are made to feel worse than the people who spend more for them to get a better experience. The Wi-Fi was overpriced for the connectivity I received. We were in a window cabin on the 13th floor at the very front of the ship. I paid the $200 for unlimited Wi-Fi because I knew there may be times that I’d have to work on my vacation. To say it was slow was an understatement. It would barely connect in the room, so if I had to work I’d have to bring everything down to a common area downstairs work then bring everything back to the room. It was inconvenient for the price charged. The internet manager was a joke and said he’d reset it, but nothing changed. Like I said previously if it weren’t for the 5-6 people we named earlier the entire experience on the boat would have been extremely upsetting. The people at the ports were extremely friendly, the ports were clean and the excursions were fantastic. The ship, could not compare to the people we met off the ship. The public bathrooms on the ship were not kept up late at night, they were dirty or out of paper towels or toilet paper. All in all, the cruise was disappointing, but the ports were extremely fun. We will cruise again, however it will not be with Norwegian. Read Less

This ship was way too overcrowded. On day one we couldnt even find a seat when boarding the ship in the main buffet area. Day 2 at sea the pool was so full people just sat on the edges - there was no room to swim. There was also no where to sit, every chair had towels or people on it. Day 3 was our first excursion. We waited in line from 9:00-10:05am to get off the ship to get to our 9:45am excursion. Thankfully they waited for us. Day 4 was the private island - Harvest Caye, Belize. When we got off the ship there was a huge pool and beach. Not a single chair was available at this pool. The beach was also overcrowded. We ended up staying for about 45 minutes then got back on the ship. The credit card machine was broken at the swim up bar. Day 5 we tried to eat at O'Shehans. there was a 30 minute wait to get in. Every time we tried to eat at the buffet it was hard to find a seat. On day 2 I went to make reservations in the main restaurant and was told the only thing available was 5pm or after 9:30pm the entire week! There were way too many people on this ship which ruined the whole experience. We've been on several cruise lines including Norwegian and have never experienced anything like this. We likely won't do Norwegian again. Read Less

Very overcrowded, Casino allows smoking, food and staff was above par. Rock of Ages in the main theater was a bunch of high schoolers. Mini Suite emphasizes on mini with a very small balcony. Beds were 2 twins put together to make a king but with a valley between the 2. Very uncomfortable. The water in the sink was scalding hot immediately so if you have small kids keep them away from the sink until the water cools down. Our suite was 1 level above a night club and the noise kept us up passed midnight.. Ship posts a passenger capacity of 3963 but we were told there were almost 4800 passengers. Forget about a chaise near the pool on sea days or getting someone to serve drinks. Pool area was plain and boring, whitewashed walls. Shore excursion was very overcrowded as well. Most of the time the soap dispensers were empty in the public restrooms. The buffet staff was excellent in reminding us to wash our hands but missed the small area of black mold on one of the walls and ceiling. Disembarkation was a total cluster. We had to leave our cabin by 9am but our disembarkation color wasn’t called until 9:45. We stood on a very long line for another hour trying to get off the ship which took us thru the smokey casino. I tried to enjoy the casino during the cruise but if you are an asthmatic like me “stay away” Read Less

Firstly we are seasoned travelers, and have been on numerous wonderful cruises in the past (25 maybe, we are no snowflakes) Layout of ship was a disaster. Instead of having the casino (with its smokers) in one small area, as on other ships, it was spread through the hallways. Midship with its 3 or 4 story mezzanine , all the smoke poured down to all levels of the ship. We couldn't even try the Asian restaurant because of a blue haze in the air and dry cough it caused. I had smokers cough for a day after leaving the ship. Also they had a loud stage in the mezzanine disturbing all guests on 3 floors, whether you were in the sports bar, or a restaurant, there sales pitches for one thing or another blared up the 3 floors. With compulsory tipping all services deteriorate as a general rule every where in the world we have travel. This held true on this ship The service was adequate perhaps, but the poorest on any ship we have been on. (25 cruises) Restaurants were just ok, Buffet was horrible, I Broke a $3000 bridgework (tooth) on their rotisserie chicken, their was a small bone fragment in the breast. Desserts were terrible, which was a plus for the waist line LOL! The exception was a Rhubarb cobbler they had one day it was fantastic. The ice-cream was good too. It was the smallest cabinet we have found in 25 cruises, but it was fine for us. Venues were a bit small for crowds. All the HOT TUBS were room temperature (Broken) not HOT as the name indicates. Even with me asking them to direct me to a hot one, or actually making one HOT, nothing was done to remedy situation. It shouldn't be hard to make one of the 12 hot tubs onboard hot 104 degrees is the norm for hot tubs they were all at best 90 degrees. You can have a few cold ones, and a few hot ones, to make everyone happy can't you?? The"Ball room dancing show" was surprisingly very good. And the "Rock show" not bad. There is no reason why they could not vent all the smoke out of the ship and bring in fresh air. I saw relatively few people smoking it was an accumulation of stale smoke from many cruises, It was the same at the first day we got on board the cruise as the last day, We lined up to disembark in the smoke filled hallways, everyone in lineup was complaining of the smell. Do yourself a favor and choose a different cruise. We have liked all cruise lines except "Costa" and " Norwegian" so far. Read Less

Boarding and disembarking was a disaster. Food overall way below average. Reservation for the shows was a nightmare. Sushi was very good on board. Kids didn't like the kids club. Pools are small for this size ship. Company have to adopt a policy of "no pool chair reservation", guests put towels early in the morning and never use the reserved chairs. Someone have to check that periodically . I felt the ship was understaffed, the waiting to order anything was way greater than expected on a cruise. I traveled Haven with NCL before and was really good, will never travel again with them in the " general population", it is a huge price difference, now I know why. A ship inside a ship, everything is different. This time we decided to go regular because of the kids, they can't use the Haven pool or solarium, made no sense to me going Haven, but now after the cruise it does. Read Less

I needed to get away from work and life in general . The Norwegian Breakaway had an interesting itinerary as we had nevercruised Norwegian before or ever been to Belize, Rotan or Costa Maya. We have cruised Celebrity, Princess and Royal Caribbean before so we went in with open eyes and expectations for some disappointments and, disapointed we were. We parked our car at a nearby garage just minutes away from the Port of Miami and hopped on the shuttle and arrived at the port five minutes lafer. We worked our way through the snake line in the terminal and within about 30 minutes wasmminnfront of the checkin agent and received our Freestle card and boarding number card. After working our way through the crowdmwe found a couple of seats and waited for instruas nonnwas given priorto entering the preboard area.. after a few minutes we heard and announcement that boarding was delayed due to a broken gangway. I had read prior to getting to the port that this was a problem on a previous cruise just a couple of weeks earlier so i wasnt surprised. After a short delay we were allowed to board. As opposed to walking into a beautiful atrium like previous cruises we walked in on deck 7 our first sense activated was not sight as much as it was smell, it was horrific, we had walked into the ships ashtray, i mean casino. The casino on Breakaway covers a good part of deck seven and due to the ships design the smoke smell travels over the balcong down to the atrium on deck 6 and up to deck 8. Again i had read about the smoke and the writer said if gou are sensitive to cigarette smoke avoid this cruise. Again a very accurate review. We spent a lot of time jockeying up and down hallways and elevators to avoid this smell. We never got teat at The Noodlebar as seating opens up to the casino and we wanted to taste our food not cigarette smoke. We were assigned our balcony stateroom #9260 which was above one of the nightclubs and the bass was so loud at night we asked for and was assigned a new stateroom after the third night. The food was mediocre at best and almost never hot at the Garden Cafe (main buffet) specialty diningat the Itian, French and Habachi bar were great and thanks to our dining package was free. When it comes to handling passenges Norwegian is an epic fail. Seating in Atrium where most events took place was inadequate for seating the amount of guest on board. Poolside is the typical cruise ship with the freguent cruiser jerks who cover all the chairs and disappear for hours prevent rule followers from sitting poolside. There wer many more disappointments than there was positives of this cruise. Ports were disappointing but we did not do excursions except Cozumel where i did the Mexican Cusine cooking class that was worth the 110.00 paid. Rotan greeted us with noise and the wonder view of port construction. Belize was lackluster. Costa Maya was nice however even though we were in Mexico and my Verizon plan covefs Mexico it dosent deach that far south or it is blocked at the port. Cozumel has improved so much over the year and we were able to get both voice and data with no problems. Read Less

This was our first cruise with Norwegian. We've sailed with other cruise lines that we have enjoyed very much and were excited to try Norwegian. Although we had a wonderful time despite many issues, I'm not a fan of the Breakaway. I want to start by saying the the Breakaway has an outstanding staff who were, for the most part, friendly and helpful. They made our cruise great. Our issues are not with the staff, but with the ship and cruise line in general. Embarkation was disorganized as was many of the events. Most of the popular events are held in the atrium, which is far too small to host such a large crowd. The atrium is positioned directly across from guest services, which makes it very difficult to speak to guest services over the din in the crowd and event. Our biggest complaint: none of the toilets flushed properly. Some not at all. It took several pushes on the buttons to make them flush, if they were going to flush at all. On a couple of occasions, after pumping the button in vain, our room's toilet flushed on its own hours later. A 3:00am startle that I didn't appreciate. When we spoke to guest services they told us that they were aware of the problem and that it is ship wide. The Breakaway has a strange layout. Needing to venture through the liquor store to buy sunscreen? Weird. It feels like the ship was meant to be laid out differently, but was rearranged in a much less optimal fashion. The "adults only" area is only during certain hours (7:00am - 6:00pm ?) then open to all ages the rest of the time. This is the first cruise ship we've been on that didn't have a 24/7 dedicated adults only area. When I mentioned this to a staff member they suggested I hang out in the library. Was she cracking wise or sincere? I don't know. But we didn't use the adults area anyway because nearly all of it is a smoking section. Breakaway has so many smoking areas that it stinks like a dirty ashtray through most of the common areas inside of the ship. Great if you're a smoker I suppose, but I am not. Speaking of adult only areas, they allowed children to sit at the bars and in the 18+ shows. Come on now Norwegian... set some standards! Trying to order a drink at a lounge bar late at night while next to a three year old whose screaming, slapping the bar, and grabbing at the cocktail fruit behind the bar was a new experience. Not one I want to repeat. A bright spot: The show "Rock of Ages" was magnificent! Credit where it is due; this was one of the best shows we've seen on a cruise. Likewise the comedic magician Jean-Pierre Parent was fabulous! And we really enjoyed Dylan Mandlsohn in the comedy club. No complaints about Norwegian's shows. Disembarkation was a nightmare. I have not ever been through such a cluster of a debarkation in all of my cruises - and we have sailed on ships with many more guests than the Breakaway. Norwegian just doesn't seem to know how to handle crowds. The disembarkation winding through the smoke filled areas of the ship was bad enough, but then they dumped us out into a thunderstorm without any cover. So here I am, already ill with something I contracted on-board the ship, now wheezing from the stinking smoke filled ship, dumped out in a thunderstorm to be drenched, and then dumped back into another air conditioned building where I am now wet, cold, and sick. Not a great impression to leave with a guest. Again, the staff of the Breakaway was the very best part of the cruise. They are amazing people. The staterooms were comfortable and the food was good. The excursions were a blast even if they were a bit disorganized to start. We had a good time despite the disorganization and lack of properly functioning toilets. However, Norwegian will not be a cruise line we first consider in the future. Maybe a third or forth choice, but no where near our first. Maybe it was just the Breakaway, but I'm not spending my hard earned money to find out. Read Less

Let me start by saying we are all seasoned cruisers. I've cruised 40 plus times, my daughters have cruised eight times, and my parents have logged more than seventy cruises. We know the good, the bad, and everything in between when it comes to cruising. We have all sailed NCL in the past with no problems. No, it's not the caliber of Celebrity, but we picked the ship based on activities for my daughters (ages 15 and 13). Embarkation went relatively smooth (we arrived early) though they were not recognizing Latitudes members for priority embarkation (not a huge deal, the lines were short). Once we boarded the ship we made our way to Savor for lunch. Walking through 678 Ocean Place we noticed a strong odor of cigarette smoke, we came to find out it is because of the location of the casino on deck seven (with the casino in the middle of the ship that is open to three decks, the smell permeates). Throughout the cruise, the smell of cigarette smoke was quite strong throughout 678 Ocean Place. The service for lunch at Savor was lacking, but we figured it was just first day issues. Turns out, it was only a precursor for things to come. Throughout the cruise we noticed the service was just dismal. Drinks were seldom refilled at meals, tables seldom bussed, and the general attitude of most (not all) the crew was definitely not up to standards. Our cabin attendant (midship mini suite) was virtually nonexistent. We had to ask daily for ice, our cabin was never vacuumed (even from the cruise before as we found trash left from two weeks prior), the sheets were never changed, dirty beverage glasses were not removed and replaced, we did not have a bath mat for the last half of the cruise, and there were days that our cabin would not be "cleaned" until 3:30-4:00 (despite our "make-up room light being on since 8:00am). He also complained about being overworked which was pretty uncalled for, especially on the second day of the cruise. We would ask crew members questions only to be told "I just came on this ship" (& perhaps that is the majority of the problem, perhaps it's a training ship). The ship itself is nice, though almost always felt crowded (much unlike far larger Oasis Class ships). The activities that are offered are abundant. The water slides were great, but one of the two drop slides was broken our entire cruise and the other one was down a good bit. Without a doubt one of the best ropes courses my daughters have ever done, though don't try to do it on a sea day, it will almost always be too windy. The comedy on the ship was excellent! Our cabin was fine, though smaller than similar cabin categories on other ships & lines. The balcony was tiny, the smallest we've had on any ship. I'm not sure who designed the ship, but it could really use some improvements (casino open to other decks, jogging path literally runs through commonly congested areas). I will say, the condition of the ship was excellent (we've sailed a Carnival or two that were held together with duct tape). The itinerary was fantastic. We've been to all the ports on past cruises (except Harvest Caye which, while beautiful, was a ripoff - $7 for a bottle of water because they know they have you). Disembarkation was one of the smoothest, most well-organized we have ever experienced. It was great. All in all it was a great cruise and we made some incredible memories, however, this may be our last NCL cruise. It's easy to look past one or two lackluster crew members, but when almost every one of them shares the same attitude, it's hard to overlook. We expected more from NCL! Read Less

Line: Norwegian Boat: Breakaway On May 19, my husband and I took this cruise to Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Tortola and a key owned by the line, called Stirrup Caye. The truth is that I prefer the system that the cruise ships had before, we all went to the same restaurant and we could all watch the same shows. Now lots of time is wasted trying to find reservations for each of the specialized restaurants, if you want to try them, and the same with the shows. You have to make reservations even to get off the ship. I'm going to start with the ports. The arrival to Puerto Rico was at 5:00 in the afternoon, on Tuesday when many places were closed and there wasn’t too much to do. It was a shame because I couldn’t go to any beach or enjoy more the local attractions. In St. Thomas and Tortola the stay was quite short, we could only enjoy approximately 2 hours on each beach. But the worst part was the Caye. We arrived at 11:00 am and nevertheless we could not get off the ship because we did not have a reservation to be able to get off first. We ended up going down at about 2:15 and by 4:30 we had to start concentrating to get back to the boat, which became an endless line of old, young and adult people under the inclement sun. That was the worst experience of all. The services in the bars, terrible. There was never a waiter nearby and people were milling around the bar asking the bartenders for a drink, more than a bar they looked like public markets. The only place where we were served properly was at Malting’s bar .... The attention of ABDUL and EKO were impeccable. In addition to this I must highlight the quality of the food during dinners. They were really spectacular, the presentation, the taste of each dish was excellent. For those who like swimming pools and jacuzzis, they should be prepared to see an endless number of people in a pool that looks more like a children’s than an adult’s pool. The truth is that the pool is a joke. As long as there are people who are willing to pay more for services that are supposed to be included, people who spend the holidays making reservations and rows and people who doesn’t mind being treated as second class passengers, the abuse will continue. I have traveled on several cruise lines, and Norwegian I liked the most, but after the last two experiences I think I will start looking for new options, which fortunately there are many and if not there are plenty of all inclusive resorts. They are also a good option and you already know that you do not have to pay more to enjoy all the restaurants, bares and shows Read Less

This was our first cruise together however we have both cruised separately with other lines. We are a couple in our 20's from the UK and were a bit apprehensive of what the average age on board would be however we were pleasantly surprised by the mix of guests. First off, embarkation went pretty smoothly. We arrived at Miami around 11:30 and were on board by 12:30 having just a short wait to get through security (we were in boarding group 12). Our first impressions on board were positive - the ship was pretty and clean and the staff were welcoming. It didn't take long to familiarise ourselves with the layout of the ship however we did think there seemed to be a lack of outside space. We went to the Garden Cafe for lunch on embarkation day which was already incredibly busy, as was the pool. This was a good indication of what was to come as the main pool was very overcrowded for the entire cruise. We actually ended up avoiding it. As others have said, if you are not up at the crack of dawn to reserve a bed, forget finding one. There is supposedly a policy to stop people from reserving beds however we never saw this enforced. Luckily, we had booked a large balcony stateroom which had beds on the balcony. We spent quite a lot of time there and were so pleased we had this as an option. Be prepared that people will be drinking A LOT. We personally didn't have any negative experiences but did hear stories of people passing out in hallways and becoming quite rowdy. I know most people have the unlimited drinks package (as did we) but we weren't expecting such long lines at all the bars. It became quite frustrating. We weren't blown away by any of the ports that we visited. We found the NCL excursions to be very pricey so did some exploring of our own instead. St. Thomas and Tortola were fine but very similar visually and we really weren't that impressed by the beaches despite the hype. The biggest disappointment for us however was Great Stirrup Caye. The tender process took forever. The ship arrived around 11am however we didn't make it to the island until just before 2pm (and we were in tender group E... so there were still several more groups to go). It seemed so disorganised and chaotic. By the time we arrived on the island, we were hot, miserable and frustrated. We couldn't even get a drink as the lines at the bars were so long. We actually gave up after about half an hour and took a tender back to the ship. This was the only time during the cruise we were able to sit by the pool for a while as almost everyone had gone onto the island. We ate at three speciality restaurants as we had this included as part of our package. We went to Cagney's, La Cucina and Teppanyaki. Teppanyaki was by far our favourite - the filet mignon was amazing and our chef made the experience fun. The other two were fine but nothing special and we were glad we weren't paying out of pocket for them. We were pleasantly surprised by the main dining rooms and found the food in there far superior to the buffet. There is so much hype about O'Sheehans but we found this underwhelming and again, always overcrowded (even at 1am there was a 30 minute wait for a table!). The entertainment was fine and the Cruise Director and his staff do work very hard although we did find many of the activities weren't really for us. There are a lot of activities you pay extra for such as bingo and Deal or No Deal, which they do promote a lot. We took part in both and again, there were far too many people. The bingo we attended was in the Pour House and it was completely rammed so people were having to stand at the back. Deal or No Deal is held in the atrium and people are saving seats for literally an hour beforehand. If you turn up 20-30 minutes before, good luck finding anywhere to sit. It's the same for any of the evening entertainment in the atrium - we never managed to find a seat. The final disappointment for us was disembarkation. We decided to go with self-disembarkation and it was a nightmare. We joined the queue around 8am and didn't make it off the ship until just before 10am. It was very disorganised and we found people in the line with us who shouldn't have been disembarking yet which meant the lines were much longer than they should have been. Overall, we'd been so looking forward to this cruise and we knew that it was a very large ship but just felt it hasn't been designed to accommodate so many people. A lot of our experiences were negatively impacted by the overcrowding in the public areas and also the price of everything onboard. Disembarkation really was the last straw for us but I do wonder how much this will improve when the NCL port is completed in Miami. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be booking with NCL again. We did this same itinerary last thanksgiving on the NCL Pearl- Cozumel, Costa Maya, Roatan, Belize- and loved it, so we repeated it for the diving. We booked the Breakaway as the Pearl went to the Mediterranean Sea. Service, dining, entertainment were great on the Pearl, not on the Breakaway. Our room Stewardess was not up to par- washcloths, hand towels and bath mats were taken and never replaced. After hunting her down 3 times we made a complaint to housekeeping. We would leave early in the morning, come back at 2:30 to a dirty room. the animal towels were "flat" and the worst I've seen- they are usually such a joy! One day she put a a torn duvet cover, and another day a ripped towel in the bathroom. The main dining room service was slow, and the food was mediocre, for dinner (we stopped eating there after the second meal) and lunch. The buffet only had a carving station 2 days- the first and the last. The food in the Garden Cafe was plentiful, but not well laid out.One side of the buffet would be dried out, the other fresh. By the time we found all our food, it would be cold. We were diving early one morning, so went to the buffet, got a few things to take back to our room- What a surprise- my eggs Benedict and the over easy egg sandwich were chilled- it was as if they had made them up ahead of time, and refrigerated them! Le Bistro was excellent- food and service! Moderno- food was very good, but the servers tried to rush you to eat. The Pearl also had a Moderno on it- totally different service.Unlike the Pearl- most of the bartenders looked unhappy. The one Comedian we watched was not very funny. The bands and entertainment were great on the Pearl- here not. The best entertainment we found was at Syd Norman's Pour House- Guilty Pleasures- one of the best bands we have ever seen. There should have been an elevator in the atrium-there were only 2 -fore and aft. There are not enough chairs for the pool for the number of guests on this ship. We had no problem as we got up early to secure ours, but others had none. One afternoon 2 hard footballs were being thrown around the pool by intoxicated guests- some jumped into the pool to catch them; after one large man just missed landing on me - I got out. This went on for a long time, and bartenders and officers did nothing to stop it. This was more like a Carnival ship. Embarcation and Disembarcation were good, but NCL got rid of the porter line because people unwilling to pay for a porter and a quicker way out complained. We loved the Pearl, but would not return to the Breakaway. Read Less

I’m a silver latitudes, almost gold level. Have also cruised princess and carnival. Embarked out of Miami, got to the pier at 10:30, group 3 boarding card. The rear gang plank broke, so we weren’t called to get on the ship till 1:30pm. Once onboard I went immediately to get cirque show tickets only to be told that show was cancelled. Stayed on deck 5 a large family ocean view, which was a good size for 4 adults. The casino was the worst ever. Many complaints about tightness if machines, but you are in international waters so remember us governing rules don’t apply. 1st night someone will win big to draw you in. After that it’s all downhill. A costly, painful lesson. I lost enough to have stayed in Haven, elevated to pearl level mid cruise, and not once did a casino host ever come and introduce themselves to me. I finally went to desk and asked for the head host. He was nice, however didn’t even comp our alcohol on board or 3% money charge fee. I’m not an alcohol drinker, so the drink package wasn’t a deal for us. The casino and mid ship is Saturated with smoke smell that goes up the center of the ship, even to the 8th deck. We felt nickeled and dimed to death on this ship. A comment we heard by many we talked to. You can charge gambling money to your card, at a 3% fee, which really adds up, 15 bucks a day per person room gratuity. There were 4 in our room(420 bucks for the week). And even if you purchase the drink package which includes a 20% gratuity, you are automatically charged another 20% gratuity per drink. Bought the soda package for me and my daughter. Soda on the entire ship lacks carbonation. Of course you will pay for almost all entertainment, bingo, deal or no deal, photos, etc etc. If you want a lounge chair at the pool, expect to save one by 8am, or you are out of luck. Not enough drink waiters at the pool, waited 15 minutes standing at bars to get a drink or soda. One pool waiter told the lady lying next to me that it would be better for her to go to the bar herself and get a drink, that he would be about 30 minutes. She gave him her card and order, and it was about 30 minute wait before he returned. She was a gold latitudes member and said this was worst service she had ever had on Norwegian. Said she hadn’t had her room made up in 2 days. Our cabin steward Erwin was wonderful. And jenelean our server in the Manhattan room was great. We ate there 3 nights and requested her area. Food overall was average to good. Paid extra for Tappanyaki, it was our best meal, huge portions and fun meal. I booked our excursions, shows, and dining prior to boarding. If you wait you may get shut out on your dates and times. Staff was nice overall, just seemed a little overworked and not enough of them. Read Less
