First time on a Norwegian Cruise ship. I have be told by others that Norwegian is the best cruise line. I have taken Princess and Carnival Cruise. My best experience was on the Viking Cruise one Seine River in Europe. Several of your restaurants like the Manhattan and Taste are at the 5 star level. My children are grown. But I enjoyed seeing the staff playing with the children and believe my grandchildren would enjoy this ship. The cabins were well designed with balconies. I enjoyed the many choices of lounges and quiet areas to rest, read, sleep or just look at the beautiful ocean. I chose to go to the beaches. I did not wish to take any excursions. I traveled with a group of 14 people who either attend my church or are close friends of members in the group. We have traveled together before. We wish to THANK THE NORWEGIAN CRUISE LINE in arranging the buses and chartered airplanes to enable us all in returning to Miami. Thank GOD for a caring Cruiseline with a caring staff who are able to plan and make adjustments as needed. A special Thank You to the Captain of this ship. Read Less

Because of Hurricane Dorian, we were unable to return to the port of Miami so there were several changes at the end that wound up putting us in New Orleans two days after we were supposed to dock in Miami. Norwegian paid for a hotel and booked us in a flight home the next day. When circumstances change like this it’s hard to make people happy but I think they did an excellent job. They kept us safely far away from the storm, had plenty of food and drinks to keep the party going, and we got an extra 3 days of vacation at no cost! I would sail Norwegian again with no hesitation. The dining and entertainment on board were both superior and the excursions we booked were amazing. The crew was friendly and we enjoyed all the activities offered. My children loved the ropes course. The pools were usually quite crowded but I think that is to be expected and we still found times to enjoy them when we had free time on port days. I can honestly say this was the best family vacation we have ever had. Read Less

My wife and I try to take a cruise each year to celebrate our Anniversary, August 25th. I try to make it a special cruise vacation for both of us so this year I chose Norwegian Breakaway as the ship and upgraded to the Haven. It was the best decision I have made in years but there is a good chance that one day I might regret that decision. You see, what I found is that once you book a Haven Suite you can never go back to anything less. Therefore, the day may come when I may not be able to justify the additional outlay of funds for the Haven, naw, I'm not going back!!! From the time you arrive at the ship you are greeted by a knowledgable crew member and accompanied to the Haven to be shown around all the Haven has to offer. You think, what no line, no hour plus boarding time? We just got aboard a few minutes ago and already we are seated in the Haven dining room having our 1st adult beverage of the day. In our opinion, the Haven dining room exceeds any of the dining venues aboard, even the specialty restaurants. Talk about being made to feel special or as my wife relates, pampered, you owe it to yourself and your spouse to book one Haven cruise to see for yourselves. Your Haven suite is nothing short of 1st Class and that is how you are treated by every crewmember no matter their rank or position. I will stop now or this will grow to a short story. We did have one problem on this cruise. His name was "Dorian". He caused the Port of Miami to close and we were redirected to New Orleans. Ever heard of Burbon Street. Party On! Read Less

Actually it was chosen for us by the casino. We had already took this trip previously but it was just as enjoyable as before, maybe even better. The room was always clean, our room steward had a very nice personality. We were treated very nicely on this cruise, we got to eat at 3 specialty restaurants, they were absolutely wonderful, we also got on/board credit. The food in the other restaurants were just as good, but it was nice to be invited to the speciality restaurants. Even though there were a lot of families with children, we were not impacted by them, most of the children were very respectful. My cousin and I played a lot in the casino, even though we did not win any big jackpots, we got to meet very nice people from all over the USA, Canada, Germany and many other countries. I met a German couple and I lived previously in England and worked in Germany for a couple of years, I was able to polish up on my German with my lovely German friend. Thank you. Read Less

Choosing the Breakaway for our honeymoon was a fantastic decision. The staff outdid themselves to ensure we felt special. The ports we visited were clean and had great excursions to choose from. Two of our favorites were the Xplor park in Cozumel and the Chacchoben ruins with a lagoon lunch and swimming. My wife, a first time cruiser, absolutely loved the entire experience. Ocean Blue has some of the best food we have ever eaten and in our opinion is a must-do. This was an amazing beginning to our honeymoon and a trip we will remember forever. The onboard entertainment is also amazing. Rock of Ages is a very fun show adapted for the sea and Burn the Floor is impressive enough without considering that the boat is moving! The comedians were appropriate and very funny and the musicians helped every lounge on the ship to feel comfortable and homey. Read Less

I wanted to leave a review for some of the excellent staff of the Breakaway The bartender at Syd Norman's Dr. L was excellent and went above & beyond to give personal service and recognize my wife & I (and made great drinks). Bartender "Orlough?? name spelling" at Headlliners also was very personable and had a great attitude. The entertainment Howl at the Moon & Syds rock show may be the best on my dozen cruises with several different cruise line they were both excellent !!!! Salmon was excellent the rest was good but didn't really stand out (i think the food on all cruises isn't as good as they used to be) The breakfast buffet was very good and had a variety of above average items. I particularly like the eggs Benedict. on the bad side the singer at the pool area '686' may have been the worst i have heard (butchered several 'good songs' so bad they were almost unrecognizable. It would have been better to have the DJ play or anything else Everything else was good and really enjoyed the Breakaway & would recommend it to anyone else considering which ship to take. Read Less

Me and my boyfriend and his family had an amazing time on this trip. We flew down to Miami the morning that our ship departed and set sail with no problems. Our state room was on the 13th floor at the back of the ship, we had a balcony and the view from up there was breathtaking!!! A few people warned us that that was a bad choice due to the location and the height we would feel the ship rocking, we don't suffer from motion sickness so to us it wasn’t bad at all. Our state room attendant, Charlie was the sweetest man on the planet. He alway had our room in tip top shape and got us anything we needed with no waiting! Dinners were amazing, we didn’t visit the buffet because we like to be waited on. My boyfriend and I ordered room service a few times, to me it was worth it because all you had to pay was $7.50 and you can order whatever you wanted on the menu, and as much as you wanted. The food that was delivered wasn’t piping hot, but it was what you would expect with any delivery service. My boyfriend and I spent a lot of time at the bar (O’Sheehans) we like drinks and bar food so this was a place we hung out the most! We had two bartenders that were top notch (Sachin & I Gede) these two served us and the new friends we met during the trip. We got to know them so well that when we approached the bar and made eye contact, our drinks were on the bar before we even sat down! There were three other bartenders who were equally as good but they worked the other end of the bar so we did not interact with them too much. I did notice how attentive they were to the guests and how fast they were to get their drinks! We booked our shore excursions before we got on the ship, we were told from friends that it was easier this way and less likely to be sold out. Getting on and off the ship was easy all you did was scan your state room card meet up at the point noted on your excursion ticket and enjoy your day! Coming back onto the ship was the same thing they scan your card. In my opinion, it was the most efficient way to make sure that everyone that got off the ship got back on the ship and was accounted for. We wound up doing the ATV jungle tour in Mexico, it was so fun! My boyfriend and I didn’t take advantage of a lot of the onboard activities and entertainment, we are not show people and really aren’t into audience participation games. We spent a lot of time in the casino and we did play bingo as well. I will tell you this, the bar that we hung at is where most of the activities such as deal or no deal karaoke etc. take place, the people that were participating, you can tell they were having an amazing time. It has been almost 3 weeks since our cruise and we cannot wait to do it again! I will definitely be sailing with Norwegian on the breakaway again for sure! Read Less

This was my first cruise experience and I must say, I’m extremely pleased! I traveled with my 65 yr old mom, 83 yr old grandma and 38 yr old sister. There was something to do for all of us. We participated in at least one shore excursion at each port with a level 1 or level 2 activity level rating. If you stayed on the ship, there was always some form of entertainment in the Atrium to keep you laughing. I loved especially the games with the couples. So fun! We also saw two broadway type shows- Burn the Floor and Rock of Ages that were excellent for the whole family! On top of the entertainment, NCL has phenomenal customer service. All of the crew greet you as you’re walking down the halls. They are big on ensuring that you remain “germ free” by constantly offering you sprays of hand-sanitizers (“Washy Washy” is their signature greeting) or by offering cool wash cloths whenever you re-board the ship from a port. There was never garbage on the floor anywhere either - Which is a feat in itself considering there are so many people on the boat! Our cruise director, Paquito, and the rest of the staff kept the energy level high from morning until night letting us know when it was clear to get off the ship at a port, updating us on that day’s events on the cruise, or while hosting a variety of games in the Atrium or on the pool deck. The fitness center was top of the line with relevant equipment of every kind including treadmills and elliptical machines, a spinning room and weight training area! They also offering group fitness classes 4 days in the week. My sis and I took Spinning and ran around the upper level track most mornings with the sunrise. Embarkation and Disembarkation at every port went very smoothly - especially considering we had thousands of customers on the boat. The food was also amazing at all of the complimentary and specialty restaurants. We ate at the Ocean Blue, La Cucina and Le Bistro. Everyone was so attentive and hospitable. The food was delicious and always included dessert!! Overall this was an experience my family and I look forward to repeating in the near future!!! Read Less

Three years ago, while on the Escape, we bought a Cruise Next certificate and we had to use it! After some research we decided on this ship because it was similar to the Escape, which we all loved, but with a different itinerary. My family consists of me, 44, husband, 45, two boys, 12 & 10. My 12 yo is less than a month from turning 13. Our stateroom, 10874 was small, but laid out nice and we never felt too cramped. We all had space to relax. I never had a balcony before and it was wonderful. Most days I woke up before anyone else, so I was able to slip out to the balcony with my book and relax while my family snoozed away. My kids went to Splash Academy every night except one (we thought they’d enjoy the magician/comedian). Even my 12 year old liked going. We would check them in and have a nice dinner and see the show. Since they were “dolphins” they were able to sign themselves out after two hours if they were bored or tired. It worked out great! In Roatan, we booked the Dolphin Encounter through Norwegian. We were taken by van along with 16 others to Anthony’s Key resort. Once there, our group was split in half and we had a 30 encounter with a dolphin and her trainer. Though it was was a wonderful excursion, with great pictures. Harvest Caye was spent on the beach. The pool, while huge was very crowded and I feel like some people had too many and were being obnoxious. My husband and 12 yo did the zip line course and both said it was great. In Costa Maya, we booked Maya Chan on our own. It is a private resort with a max of 80 guests. We had the best day there and would plan other cruses just to go back! We stayed on the boat in Cozumel so the kids could go on the waterslides, but sadly, only one was open. We enjoyed the shows, especially Rock of Ages, which I saw on broadway. It is a but raunchy and several people left with their kids in the middle, despite warnings in many places it was 18+ The food was really good, especially Teppenyaki and the meal during Wine Lovers (another highlight). I got the thermal spa pass and enjoyed spending an hour or so there every day, only the first evening it felt crowded, after that, I was usually in the hot tub all by myself! Overall a great week! The crew - all of them - were friendly, professional, knowledgeable and helpful. The head chef was great; he showed care, consideration and understanding for my vegan companion's dietary needs, and was genuinely interested in our dining experience. He even explained how she could use the signage color coding to determine vegan vs non-vegan food offerings. Speaking of which - the Breakaway has the best dining experience I've had in over 10 years and 15+ cruises. The variety, taste, quality and presentation was fantastic no matter if we ate in the buffet or any of the specialty restaurants. We had a 2-person occupancy balcony room that was more than adequate for our needs. The bed, however, was very firm - fine for me but too hard for my Significant Other. Our cabin steward also made our cruising experience excellent. I cannot say enough about how wonderful her service was. There was plenty of entertainment options on-board the ship, along with activities for adults, young adults and children. [The kids and teens will love deck 16 aft - water slides, obstacle course, I ran into several of the "unseen staff" - the engineers, maintenance personnel, etc. - thanks to my insomnia. They were all professional, friendly and helpful. They even gave me great tips on shore locations, ship events, etc. The art auction staff was very helpful and pleasant. They were incredibly helpful with information on appraisals for my existing art purchases. [My only "complaint" - can you please stop pushing the Peter Max artwork? Please???? ;-)] The ship appeared to be well maintained, clean and organized, with just the right level of lighting throughout. There were plenty of shore excursions and port shopping. [Unfortunately, I cannot comment with any authority on the shore excursions as I didn't take any this trip - I was taking a "complete rest" vacation cruise for a change.] There were a couple minor complaints: 1. This is the first ship I've been on where there were no locker rooms/showers available for users of the gym. I was not the only passenger that commented on the lack of shower facilities at the gym. 2. The H2O adult-only deck needs shade - desperately! This deck area is awash in sun - too much sun. [This was area that other passengers commented upon; makes this deck area undesirable.] 3. Jimmy Buffet's seemed like a neglected afterthought by the ship's designers when they discovered they had unused deck space. The lack of activities or events there was palpable. And, IMHO, a waste of a great name, trademark brand and NCL investment. No Happy Hour. No "Kid's Only" non-alcoholic events (a pity since Buffet's is located adjacent to the kids recreation area). No special events/tastings/demonstrations/celebrations. Why is it this venue even there if NCL isn't going to take advantage of the Jimmy Buffet "island/laid back/soft partying" experience that is the Jimmy Buffet experience? 4. Bring your own coffee/cold drink container: I forgot to bring my cold drink bottle, so I broke down and bought one from the ship's stores. Someone at NCL needs to find new suppliers for this merchandise. I bought one cold drink cup and its lid broke within 3 hours. A second was defective. The third - exchanged the evening before disembarkation - broke its lid right after leaving the port building. I wouldn't comment if I did something stupid like dropping them, because they would be my fault and problem, not NCL's. But, they all broke on their own accord after little or no use. 5. Disembarkation: This seemed to take much longer than the entire check-in and embarkation process. I noticed that disembarkation was often held up by long pauses as certain people passed through NCL security; NCL Security personnel often had to take 1-2 minutes typing something into the computerized profiles of the just-exited passenger before resuming disembarkation. US Border and Customs Enforcement was not the source of any delays. 6. The safety drill prior to launch: Seemed a bit disorganized compared to the other ships I've cruised, including prior NCL cruises. In summary, these "complaints" are minor; no situation or facility is perfect. The overall experience was excellent. Read Less

We tried everything on the menu throughout our trip and we were never disappointed. Our room steward Emanuel went overboard (no pun) to be sure our room was always stocked neat and clean. Alexandrea our restaurant hostess was so pleasant. She was very Intune to all the details. We needed to ask for nothing because the crew was always a step ahead and somehow predicted our needs. How they do I we will never know but they made this the MOST relaxing and truly enjoyable trip we have ever taken. So I got an account on CC and started reading some reviews and really dont understand what people are complaining about. This is our 1st time on Breakaway, we been on Getaway twice so we knew everything already and seen it all before. Same ship pretty much. So clearly we love Norwegian. We went on Royal Oasis in between but came back to NCL. Its always just my fiance I, no kids, rarely another couple. We pay to get away. Just relax and enjoy. I swear I dont even think about money or work. Everyone will make money, time will never be made so enjoy it. If you have to pay a little extra, you'll be thankful later for the memories. We got the packages, the dining, wifi, drinks, discounts. We didnt even make it to all 3 dining options we could have had, left my phone on airplane mode the whole time except twice onshore to check on the dogs, we aren't pissed. We had a blast, we made friends, we made memories, and yes, we spent money that we weren't planning on, big deal, well worth it. I highly recommend to leave your babies at home, put the phones down, and have some fun. 35/32 M/F Read Less

We had a great trip on the Breakaway. Normally I just read reviews, and never provide them -- but since I spent so much time researching on cruise critic I decided i should 'pay it forward' and provide a review too! Ship is beautiful. It is very well laid out -- where most of the entertainment and restaurants are on the 5th-8th deck. This made it very easy to navigate around the ship. Our cabin was on the 14th floor, which was great because it was just one flight of stairs up to the pool area and garden cafe (buffet). We had an easy time getting on the ship (however there is a lot of walking , so if you have any family members that have problems walking a mile, be sure to arrange assistance). Disembarking the ship was a breeze! Much better than I anticipated. Pros: Lay out of the ship, staff was very good and friendly. We had the drink package and specialty dining package. I'm not sure if it was a great value, but it was awesome to be able to grab a drink and not worry about it. Ship was clean and well decorated. Cons: If you are an avid fitness fan, you may be disappointed. The Jogging track is small (12 laps = a mile) and to make things worse it is on a part of the ship that is essentially a necessary throughway to get to another area of the ship. Hence there were always people strolling along on the track - I can't blame them they needed to walk there to go to where they needed to go, but very poor planning on the ship design. I poked my head into the gym area... was crowded with machines and there did not appear to be any 'floor area' to stretch /yoga, do free weights. All I saw was machines. Kids club did not work out for us. I have 11 year old that was worried about being with little kids. When we checked in we were assured that would not be the case b/c the 10-12 year olds would have separate program. So of course the first time she checked in ,she was in a group of 3-12 year olds. When she sent me an SOS , I came and got her. So she was literally there less than one hour. When I picked her up and asked about it I was told this was b/c it was a port day and on port days the kids are all together. This really is not ok in my mind. Most 11 year olds do not want to play with random 3-4 year olds. My daughter refused to go back. Dining was good. We ate breakfast almost every day at the Garden cafe. With one exception, it was generally not too crowed. We did have breakfast at Jimmy Buffet restaurant one day, it was nice because of the view and not crowded, but the selection was very limited compared to the Garden cafe. For our specialty dining we went to Teppanyaki, Cagney's and La Cucina. All were very good, but Cagney's was the stand out. OMG- so good! We also ate at Taste, Savor, Manhattan Room and O'Sheehans. The first 3 serve most of the same stuff. All was good. Service was generally great. I would definitely cruise on Norwegian again on the Breakaway. We were actually concerned about the large size of the ship, but it was actually quite manageable. Loved it! Read Less

From the moment we arrived at the Port of Miami, we were escorted onto the ship in the smoothest embarkation imaginable. We were welcomed on-board to our first class Haven Spa suite. Having cruised before on many other cruise lines, I must say NCL thought of it all. Food: The food in the Haven was delicious gourmet style. We dined in many of the other restaurants and enjoyed each. We also had our butler deliver food to the suite which added a first class touch. The Nespresso coffee machine in the suite was awesome too. The free style dining was wonderful. We enjoyed the Riverfront. The drink package was excellent. We enjoyed the SKYY Vodka Ice Bar too. Entertainment & Excursions: The shows were entertaining. Our favorite was the Syd Norman's Pour House (they had the entire audience singing along)... great fun! Our shore excursions were adventurous and outstanding, 11 ziplines in Roatan, Honduras, segways in Costa Maya, Mexico and dune buggy/snorkel in Cozumel, Mexico. We also booked the backstage tour of the ship which was interesting and well worth the time and additional fee. Haven: What can I say... superb! We were on a ship with over 4000 people yet we were able to escape to the relaxing ambiance of the Haven, any time we wanted to relax. The air-conditioned pool area was a dream come true. The Thermal Spa waters were incredible... we enjoyed the massaging waters, heated chairs and spa touches. If you can upgrade to the Haven, it is by far elite! There are no lines for any shows, you are escorted on and off at the ports so no lines or hustle/bustle. The concierge was always available for anything to ensure our vacation was pristine. Staff: The staff was helpful, informative and available to assist. This includes the entire ship, not just the Haven. Great smiles! Area of Improvement: We purchased the internet and it was extremely spotty/unreliable. As you can tell, it was an awesome vacation and even the disembarkation was smooth! We will return to NCL and actually can't wait! Thank you to NCL for making our vacation memorable. Read Less

This was our 7th NCL Cruise. Everything about this cruise was easy and fun! Service in Manhattan, Taste, Savor and O’Sheehan’s was top notch. Food was terrific. Buffet was great for a quick bite or a snack. Buffet was kept immaculate and we could always find a clean table. We enjoy the casino, and we had so much fun in this casino. The servers, Soledad and Jerwin, were really on the ball. We never waited for a drink. We also enjoyed our chats with the casino host, Wei Seng Kuang. He was friendly and personable! As stated in many reviews, the small adult pool is inadequate for the size of this ship. We did enjoy some entertainment around the pool. Loved the Sexy Legs contest. We found that Spice H2O was the perfect spot to enjoy the sun. It has rainfall showers and a very large waterfall feature, all designed to cool you off in the absence of a pool. There are also 2 hot tubs there. There were plenty of loungers, a nice ocean breeze and a bar with very entertaining bartenders! We ate all breakfasts outside at the Margaritaville buffet. It was always empty and quiet. The Garden Cafe is way too noisy and active!! Go to the 16th floor to enjoy a peaceful breakfast. Overall, the ship was crowded but there are plenty of nooks to escape the crowds. Service was spot on at all bars, all dining rooms and our cabin. We had a fun, relaxing vacation! Read Less

We chose this cruise on our agents/friends' advise. Also my co-worker/friend has sailed on the Getaway with the same itinerary & loved it. The ship was well maintained & the crew was incredible. Chavan, our waiter at Savor is the BEST! Paul, our bartender at the pool remembered us each time we ordered. Everyone was always friendly & happy to answer questions or help if needed. Weather was great...the captain did a wonderful job of going around a couple of storms. The pool are attendants were great at enforcing the adult only pool...no kids. Easy embarkation & disembarkation. I can't say enough about our experience! We enjoyed the shows onboard the Breakaway - although we missed Burn the Floor & Rock of Ages as we were having too much fun doing other stuff. We did our own excursions - taxis are easy to hail & we found it was MUCH cheaper to set up our own. We bought the Cruise Next vouchers...we are ready to go again!!! Read Less

My wife and l tried to take in everything you had to offer: Comedy shows: Excellent!!! Dueling piano bar: Excellent!!! They did a fabulous job taking requests and miraculously pulled off 80% of them JP’s Magic show: Excellent!!! Sid Norman’s Pour House band: Excellent voices, dancing and chemistry amongst the band!!! Pool party (not my scene, but it looked just like the movies with a lot of smiles, laughs and drinks... oh, and a bouncing beachball) Since the crowded pool was not my scene l was glad that we signed up for the thermal spa package. Not crowded, plenty of lounge chairs and air conditioned (plenty of heat in the jacuzzi and sauna but the AC is really nice when you need it). And also saw Velvet (a great acrobatic show set to music featuring some very talented artists/ acrobats). And everything was spotlessly clean I expected the excursions to be my favorite parts, and even though I had a lot of fun with them, my best memories were on the boat (and that doesn’t even take into account our honeymoon-related activities, which also took place on the boat). Seems most people ate at the Garden Cafe buffet. I wonder if they realize that Moderno, Savor, Taste, O’Sheahan’s don’t charge extra for bfast, lunch or dinner. The food was great!!! Read Less

Chose this ship for the Ports and Entertainment. Had a wonderful relaxing trip. I sailed solo but in an OV cabin. Embarkation was fairly easy. They changed the terminal while they build the new one, so it was a little more hectic but I was on the ship within 30 minutes of parking. I tried Cagney's and Moderno for dining. Both were good, but I enjoyed my breakfasts and dinner at Savor just as much. As for activities, I enjoyed the pool and Spice during the day. I have used the spa on this ship on other cruises, but I was too busy and never got there this time. For entertainment, I loved the Howl at the Moon show, the Switch band at the Pour house and the comedians. As always the service was top notch. My cabin steward Alicia was so friendly and helpful. She really help make my cruise great. For excursions, in Roatan we walked to a taxi stand and asked to go see Monkey's and Sloths. The cab driver took care of the rest and it was my favorite part of the trip! In Harvest Cay I just did a beach day with a little shopping. In Costa Maya we got a cab to the beach and enjoyed a wonderful lunch great views. By the last port, Cozumel, usually my favorite, I was tired so just shopped and went back to the ship to rest. Debarkation was easy and fast. Read Less

We chose this cruise on the recommendation of our travel agent as providing the best value for the money during the week we could go. It did not disappoint. First of all, prior to leaving I had read some of the more recent reviews and I was somewhat concerned after reading about terrible overcrowding, disorganization, and overworked, disengaged staff. To be honest, it almost makes me wonder if we went on the same ship. We found the Breakaway to be very nice, near spotlessly clean all week, and the staff nothing but attentive, positive and helpful. We have never had better service on any vacation or experience. Our stateroom steward was incredible - doing his work consistently well without once interrupting us while we were in the room. Our trip wasn't perfect - we did have a couple of issues. First, our son's bag didn't make it into our room. The first step/search turned up nothing. However, I got multiple contacts regarding it and late the first night it appeared outside our door. Later in the week, we had a problem with the toilet in our room and it was fixed within three hours. On both occasions the staff responded quickly and graciously and resolved the issues. The food? Nothing short of INCREDIBLE. We ate at three of the specialty restaurants and all three main dining rooms. Superb each meal. Hard to believe I was eating on a cruise ship. We didn't eat at the buffet often, but when we did we found it fresh and very good overall for buffet food. One note about he buffet - if you saw food on the floor or a table it had just been dropped there. The wait staff kept the Garden Cafe near flawlessly clean in spite of the fact that there were hundreds of people eating in that area. I do have two areas of criticism - both consistently mentioned in these reviews. First, the reviews mentioning the smoke smell and layout of the casino are exactly right and on target. My wife and son noticed the smell the first time we walked through that area. Everything else about the ship screams "excellence" except this area. We do not gamble and simply decided to go down to the sixth floor to cross the ship. The second criticism involves the atrium. Many reviews say it is chaotic and way to small for the volume of people and activities held there. On target once again. I get what Norwegian tried to do with this space - create a "vibe" with people and constant activity in this area. The result is often overcrowding and noise so great that you cannot hear your conversation with the smiling representative at the guest services desk. This was especially true in the evenings. I found the communication to be excellent about everything. Each evening our steward left the publication for the next day that told us everything we needed to know. The TV in the room allowed us to check our planned activities and the charges to our account each day. I found Norwegian to be very transparent and consistent about extra charges. You might not like or agree with them, but they are at least communicated to you. There were no surprises with anything I had to pay extra for. Overall, a great, excellent experience. Our family would go again. Read Less

A wonderful opportunity to engage with other cultures at each Port of Call. This cruise will leave you wanting another. So much to do on board (entertainment) and on shore (excursions). The Cruise Director keeps the pace with a lot of interesting games, parties for everyone, every age. The stores have incredible sales! Bring some shopping money. They have different levels of Splash Academy for small kids and teens. The restaurants are so incredible! Oh my! Such a variety, from sushi to Italian to steak. On the Breakaway, the Mandara Spa has something for everybody. Awesome experience! Service is always with a smile, the staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. The common areas are always clean. The staterooms are spacious. This boat is so huge, you forget you are cruising on the sea. No matter what your interests, they have fun already planned for you. Just sign up, you will not be disappointed. Read Less
