Our Second year on the Dream, I was a little worried about some of the previous reviews , all I can say is they must be quite fussy. First of all this is a 95% British ship, and you certainly see a complete cross section of British society, so expect a fair share of tattoos ( and that's just the ladies) there were more children this year , but also good to see more disabled on bored , I would have never recommended a cruise to someone with mobility issues but they were fine, so that's good to see. enough people have mentioned how hard the crew work and of course they do , the food was excellent, and the entertainment also top drawer, the comedian ( always a risk) was great and you could hardly get a seat in the Broadway lounge for his second show. Top Tip, if you are in a port where you aren't going on an excursion ( we only went on 2) then I recommend hitting the pool area straight after breakfast, most people head ashore straight away and you therefore get the pool , and hot tubs , to yourselves. It gets very busy in the afternoon . However there are quiet areas to go to ( deck 7 aft, you will get a lounger anytime ) also since Tui made the holiday " Proper" inclusive getting a drink is not an issue, they have Beer & wine carts where you can more or less help yourself. So in summery you are getting 7 days cruising , fully inclusive for under £1000, come on whats not to like.... Read Less

From the minute we arrived in the airport everything went smoothly up to when we arrived back a week later. Tui staff extremely organised and helpful. Would like to give a special mention to the bartender Philip "beep beep - love is in the air" and Lewis our fantastic cabin house keeper. Nothing was too much for Lewis. Both guys were so accommodating and super friendly. They deserve recognition for all the hard work and politeness they showed us all. Food was perfect for all my family. Great variety. Broadway shows in the evening were not great, we expected so much more. The entertainment team again just our opinion screeched through many of if not all the songs they sang. Many people walked out during each show. (Hate to give a negative comment) regardless it does not warrent a rate reduction in my opinion because you can see they work very hard. We thought it was such a nice touch from Shane to bring many of the team on stage the evening before so we could say thank you to all the wonderful staff. It was emotional. In a lovely way. These guys work so hard to give us the hard earned holiday. We did a few excursions all booked via Tui all went so easy and very reasonable. We would not recommend purchasing WiFi, £40 for one day and signal kept dropping more so than having it. Went to reception twice got no satisfaction. So it really was a waste of money. My daughter had a facial and I had a wash and blow dry in the spa. Both were fantastic, very well priced also. Both lovely ladies that pampered us. We have not knocked any points off for our cruise as overall we enjoyed immensely, thank you to all marella dream. Read Less

The transfers from start to finish, were smooth. We even were allowed to move cabin and stay on later on the last day, to save us having to wait at the airport for hours for our flight. This cost £35 per person and was well worth it. This was the best cruise I have been on.I liked that it was much smaller ship and that it was older. The staff are lovely and can't do enough for you.The food was good and plenty of choice. The cabin was spotless and the lad that did for us, Lewis, deserves a special mention, for being so good at his job and going out of his way to help us when ever he could. The ship was clean and tidy and as it's an older ship yes some of the toilets could have a bit of a whiff about them at times. However given the amount of people they serve I think that can be expected , on a whole though they to were spotless and clean. I really enjoyed it, and hope to go again next year. Read Less

As this was our first cruise, we didn'tknow what to expect, but the holiday exceeded our expectations. The staff were brilliant. Very helpful and polite and nothing was too much trouble. Some parts of the ship did look a little tired but this did not spoil our cruise experience. Our cabin on deck 4 was fine. The bed was really comfortable. The cabin wasnt huge but it was functional. We ate in the Lido and Orion restaurants. We didn't have a bad meal during the week. The food was plentiful - you could eat all day, every day if you wanted. We upgraded to premium all inclusive which was worth the money. We went on the excursion to Florence and Pisa. Well organised but a long day in 40 degree temperatures. In the other ports we stopped at we were able to walk or get a shuttle into the city. We had a tender from the ship into Monaco, and on returning to the ship, the weather had taken a turn. The tender pilot was brilliant and skillful in getting us back in rough sea. Entertainment was great and there was something for everyone. We visited the gym a couple of times which had a lot of equpment for a relatively small ship. The organisation during embarking and disembarking was excellent. Plenty of staff to help. We will definitely be going again. Read Less

we choose this cruise for many many reasons. here is a few, not in any order of preference. 1. we can fly direct from Belfast International Airport to Palma on a Tui flight. 2 the transfer from the flight to the ship is absolutely painless, this is especially helpful as both myself and my wife have severe mobility problems. 3 we knew, from past experiences, the crew and facilities would be perfect for us as a retired couple, absolutley no hassle at all. complete relaxation as soon as we reached our deck 9 cabin (9040) we have no complaints whatsoever about any aspect of the 14 night cruise. The crew were magnificent. Fiendly, down to earth and overflowing with happiness. One guy shone out above the rest. his name is Philip, a young Jamaican. He literally, ran around the ship doing his job as a bar tender. he has this constant set of rhymes. "No card, no charge.......no fear, love is here..........spread the love'. these are accompanied by his hand bell ringing and his cry of "beep. beep" to clear his path. he kept everyone near him in fits of laughter. Every time there was live music on the Sirens pool deck or in the Medusa lounge in the evenings (watch him go at the last night Bandjam)......he gave us a demonstration of an amazing dance routine. It was worth the money just to witness his performance. We say "well done our kid"!! We dined in the evening in the Orion restaurant. We received a really professional, courteous service. The menu was varied but not outstanding. The portions are small but if you include soup/salad as well as a starter you will be fairly well filled. We used both the Lido and the Sirens buffet style restaurants for breakfast and the terrace grill for lunch. No complaints about either although some of hot food in Sirens was not always "piping hot" even the hot water for tea was not boiling hot. The entertainment was excellent. The young show team were brilliant, both as a team but also individuals. Maria, Jake and especially Matt gave us three amazing solo cabaret performances in Tides bar. Muzzic Unlimited were the resident band in the Medusa lounge. We enjoyed their performances particularly Romeo we he sang pieces like "Nessen Dorme and O Sol Mio". However we thought they could have reduced the sound a bit as it was very loud to our ears. We spent our evenings in Tides bar listening to a tremendous duo called "Tointense" or to everyone around, Tom and Maris. We just loved their music and their interaction with each other (the banter) and with the audience. They took time between each set to walk among the guests, chatting to everyone and expressing their appreciation of our presence. They also helped make our cruise the very very best. The amazing evergreen Mr Keith Kerslake shared the time in Tides with Tom and Maris. What more can be said about Keith? He just gets better and better every year. He is such a thoroughly nice guy, an expert pianist who gives his very best performance every time he gets behind the grand piano. He invented the Marella Dream last night "Bandjam". Just a couple of negatives and maybe a word of advice. We were quite shocked and so very disappointed on the crew night (July 19th 2019) to hear the compare (David) make remarks about male genital parts when many children were visibly in the audience. He also thought there was some humour in unhelpful and unnecessary remarks he made, in this age on inclusivity, about private and personal things that happen in a LGBT relationship. He also tried (failed miserably) to make some very antiquated joke about the "Humpty Dumpty" nursery rhyme as well as some other silly thing he picked up second hand from a bygone era. Wisdom and discretion do not seem to be know to him. He is not hard to spot. He eats alone, mostly beside the pool on Sirens deck. The rest of the team seldom are seen in his company except when they share in hosting a game. He is far too old to be involved in this kind of work. He can't sing, he can't dance and his English vocabulary equals a Year 3 primary school child. his two oft repeated expressions....."there you go" and its variant "there you have it". He seems to speak through his nose and has a personality resembling a dead fish including the vacant look on his,now moustached, face. His most outstanding feature is his "beer belly" hanging over his pants. The many ports we visited were full of interest for those who like to explore. They have a few downsides. The ship docks quite far away from the main places of interest and it usually costs around 5 Euros return to make the trip by coach. However these journey are operated and controlled locally and it can be very hard to get a bus/coach back to the ship and can involve a lot of waiting around due to the lack of a reliable timetable. We found the tours to be far too expensive and unsuitable for us due to our limited mobility. We would strongly advise future cruisers on the wonderful "Dream" ship to pack a warmish jacket, cardigan, light sweater for the evenings. The lounges,Tides, Medusa, Explorers and Water's Edge and quite cold with a noticeable cold air conditioning draft prevalent irrespective of where you sit. The bathroom is not large. It has the usual toilet, washbasin and over the bath shower and hair dryer. We found it impossible to get the temperature right with the shower. It either burned or was freezing cold. We asked for it to be fixed but this never happened. In summary. we have been cruising for over 20 years, completing over 40 cruises with Celebrity (the worst ever company...a "never again experience"), P & O. Ocean Village, NCL. Fred Olsen, Star Cruises Etc. Nowadays we don't look anywhere else. We know before we leave, we will not need to pay tips, we will not be paying for refreshments, our account will be in good old United Kingdom Sterling with no "Dollar Inspired add ons" (one of the tricks from the greedy USA owned Cruise companies that seem to have the habit of crashing into things or losing passengers overboard), we will be pampered from the moment we board the plane till we touch down on our return by the fantastice Tui/Marella team. For myself and my wife from July 16th till 30th 2019 we have had the best cruise ever. Well done the Tui/Marella team from our wonderful Karen Crothers and the rest of the staff in our local Tui shop in Newtownards to Captain Alan Macary and his entire crew///abundant thanks....we will return, God willing next year Read Less

Booked this cruise months in advance, all inclusive was a standard but we decided to pay £50 for a premium all inclusive which was well worth it. From the beginning our embarkation was quick and easy, obviously had to queue but nothing unreasonable. We immediately got settled into our cabin on Deck 7, which was a nice size, with two comfortable single beds, a small sofa and table, a desk with chair and mirror, two wardrobes with a full body mirror on one of the doors and a bathroom with toilet and shower. The bathroom includes a hairdryer which is decent but not very powerful. Our rooms got cleaned every day, with towels changed if needed, staff kindly fold up your clothes and make animals out of the towels which was a very nice gesture. There was a great choice of restaurants, breakfast buffet at either Sirens or Lido is the kind you would expect from any all inclusive package holiday, nice but nothing special. Orien restaurant is the only fancy restaurant which is part of the all inclusive package but the a la carte restaurants only cost about £18 for a three course meal. There is food available throughout the whole day at different restaurants, so if you are ever hungry you can eat either from the buffet or the terrace grill. There was even a late night buffet from 11.30 - 1am. Many different activities to get involved in throughout the ship, including the casino, bingo, late night disco, card games or the broadway lounge and even if you don't fancy any of those things you can always listen to the live music at the Tides Bar or Waters Edge. Every single member of staff on the ship was an absolute sweetheart. Ports are very lovely, but don't feel pressured to book your excursions in advance because you get way more options once you are actually on the ship and you end up meeting people which you would like to go on excursions with anyway. Some of the excursions are not worth the money, so make sure you research carefully what they actually provide for you on the excursion and whether you have any alternative cheaper options. Me and my bestfriend went alone, we are both 18, despite everyone saying that it's a holiday for older people and that we were better of going to a villa in somewhere like Greece like the majority of people our age, we chose to come on the cruise anyway and had an absolutely amazing time. You definitely get your money's worth with the drinks package and the bartenders are always so nice and friendly. We never had a boring moment on that ship and got to meet amazing people, we are already looking to book our next one for next year. We highly recommend a cruise with Marella Dream, no matter what age you are. Read Less

Had a couple of choppy nights which wont put me off cruising again, cant wait to book next one. Only downside was no free wifi, they charge £15 per day for it which I think was really bad, most places offer free wifi so we were out of touch with family back home for the week. I wanted a smaller ship as I was travelling on my own. Having read previous reviews, most of which were positive, I decided to book it. The whole of the holiday was perfect from start to finish. I had a single cabin (1023) which was roomy and clean with modern decor. Plenty of drawers and wardrobe space. The entertainment, food, service and cleanliness of the ship was faultless. Comments with regard to ship being old are certainly true but it did not deter from the holiday itself. All the bars, dining rooms and communal areas were modern and tastefully decorated. I have travelled many times on several cruise lines in the past and I can honestly say, that I was not disappointed in any of the experiences on the Marella Dream. I would like to say a special thank you to the member of staff that certainly made my holiday memorable. A young 24 year old - Calum James Smith - with the title of social host. He was wonderful with shall I say the elderly ladies of the ship. Thank you for a lovely, relaxing holiday. Read Less

We haven’t cruised before and wanted to celebrate our anniversary so we went for a low end weeks cruise as a taster with Marella Dream, with no exaggeration from the airport going to the airport coming home it was fantastic, boarding the ship on the first night we were really impressed with the friendly staff and condition of the ship, every day after just got better and better with super entertainment, friendly staff, top restaurant food, we met lots of new friends and thought the whole ship had a great atmosphere, we would have a great day on shore then always look forward to getting back on board. We especially liked the Orion restaurant, tides bar and waters edge, all very fancy and drinks are lovely, we didn’t need to upgrade to premium from all inclusive. Our cabin was larger and nicer than expected and very comfortable indeed. We assumed we were booking a inferior cruise maybe being a bit snobby but we couldn’t be more wrong it was exceptional value for money and a top experience. How this cruise would compare to p&o or Royal Caribbean I don’t know but cannot wait to find out as there’s no going back from this. Read Less

We've been on at least fifteen cruises with a range of companies including RC, P&O, Celebrity X to name but a few but this was our first cruise on the Marella Dream. We chose this cruise as we wanted a week of mild weather without the need for a ten hour flight to the Caribbean so we opted for the colorful canaries and Morocco leaving on January 5th 2019. I have to stay we were slightly apprehensive having read some of the reviews but we were so pleasantly surprised that I feel the need to write a review, something I rarely do. The ship is spotless, the cabins and storage areas are bigger than what you find in most of the larger ships these days. The food is excellent always hot and varied with a choice of restaurants, there's a variety of enjoyable entertainment, something for everyone really. But what stands out more than anything is the excellent staff, nothing is too much trouble, always friendly and smiling. Yes, the ship is not as big or as glamorous as some of the newer ships these days but that said it lacks in nothing, it's absolutely lovely inside and has a homely feel to it which in itself can make all the difference to your holiday. If you're looking for a very nice relaxing cruise where you'll get excellent value for your money, do consider the Marella Dream, you wont be disappointed! However if you want the whistles and bells that come with the larger new ships and are happy to pay much more for that, the Marella Dream may not be for you, look elsewhere. Read Less

The all you can eat buffet restaurants had lots of choices and even a chief cooking Chinese fresh for you. The all inclusive drinks package included in our price even included Prosecco. The swimming pool was freezing, it has a roof which covers over in bad weather. The jacuzzi was lovely and warm. There was just a lack of sunbeds on our day at sea which was to be expected, we had quizzes in the afternoons around the pool. When they found out that I was diabetic they came up with wonderful desserts = a real treat. It made me feel really special. We enjoyed it so much that we are going back again this year!!. It was about an hour to the cruise terminal and when there everything was really quick and smoothly executed. We went down to our cabin and the luggage was already there1 That's service fr yoy. The cabin was always spotless, couldn't fault him. The ship was just a little tired but spotlessly clean. There were plenty of lounges, bars and a show theatre. The shows were good, really professional. The main restaurant -Orion was fantastic. The food and service was impeccable. we ate there every night and the occasional lunch time too. The self service restaurant was good. There was always a good selection of hot and cold dishes which were very nice. We had an all inclusive wine package and the house wines were okay. We also bought a 5 bottle wine package which at £72 was reasonable. The choices were excellent. A little apprehensive having read some of the reviews about Marella Dream we went with realistic expectations as it is a well travelled ship and not new, just out of the shipyard. We were very very pleasantly surprised at what we experienced. Everything was squeaky clean, the crew and staff were there to make you feel valued and they did without exception. The food in the two buffet restaurants was ok, not brilliant, but in the Orion was very good with excellent choice. We even paid the little amount extra to eat in the 3 speciality restaurants and they were absolutely fabulous and well worth it. The standard all inclusive drinks package is also excellent, we couldn’t see why anyone would upgrade at huge cost as there were branded drinks in the standard one including in excess of 20 cocktails. Did a few excursions which if a little pricey we’re well organised and hassle free. We booked them before we went and one of them was not available on the day and we didn’t go to one port where we had one booked so I am hoping that the process for getting refunds is a smooth one. Entertainment was of a high standard with great variety and we loved listening to the resident New Generations band. We had one of the ten balcony cabins and honestly the price to upgrade to this was not worth it as the outside (and inside) looked absolutely fine. We were at the back of the ship which was close to the engines so if you can get a cabin further forward would suggest this. All in all an brilliant week and when compared to our previous cruise on P&O Ventura, we much preferred the smaller friendlier more personal service aspect of Marella Dream and would do another Marella cruise next time. My wife is celebrating her 50th birthday and wanted to cruise. We had a wonderful time. The passengers we met really made this cruise unforgettable, especially Pat and Derek, who celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on board. We spent most of our time at the lido restaurant and bar by the stern pool on deck 9. There we met Charlie, one of the waiters, who was absolutely fantastic. His professionalism and personality is second to none. Look for him when you cruise. I would recommend that you sit and eat breakfast in the Orion restaurant rather than any of the buffet restaurants and the same goes for evening dinner. Lunch, snacks and lighter bites are good at all the buffet restaurants but for the main meals we preferred the Orion. We didn’t eat at any of the themed restaurants so I cannot review them but any of the other passengers who ate there were delighted with them. We went on one excursion, to Capri. It was really nice. At the other ports we stayed on board or went for a stroll about. We went to one evening show, ABBA, which was very entertaining. To finish I would highly recommend this cruise and ship for anyone looking to cruise for the first time. Read Less

This is are third time on this ship it is a smaller friendly ship with a lovely crew. The ship has three amaizing bars plus bars on decks as well. The bar staff were very attentive and always smiling a special thanks to HIlda and Nay Ye from the waters edge who looked after us so well. The band were really good in this bar they were the aucustic soul brothers who had amaizing voices and were really whitty. We stayed in ainside cabin on deck seven this was kept amaculately clean by Candy who was always smiling and could not do enough for us so big thank you to him. The cabin was big enough for us it had lots of space to hang all your clothes a kettle shower very good. Dining was really good we used both the lido self service food always hot a plenty of choices the Orion was waiter service this was lovely food always piping hot the staff who looked after us were amaizing so thanks to Jorges Putu and Rafael for looking after us. Must mention the wine waiter Rajkumar who was always topping us up he was brilliant. The entertainment was exalant this year shows like ABBA Blues brother and much more amazing show team. I was shocked reading some of the previous reviews. This ship is small and friendly will defiantly be going back next year. Ports of call very good. Spain Italy and France Read Less

Had an excellent cruise. The ship is a bit dated in places but the overall cruise was brilliant from start to end. Did not want it to end the staff are brilliant and everything is organised to perfection with no hic- ups. So much food choice and the Orion waited on like a king. A coupkeofports were 2mins away but tui put on transfer coaches so not a problem. The ship is not over big so plenty of beds and room for all. I will be booking with him again due to the organisation and the friendly staff. We went in September visited Italy, France and Spain. Weather was really nice. The beach in Palma is a must. Loved corsica , Sorrento and St Raphael were my favourites. Entertainment could have been better, was ok but the crew did most of the shows with just an hour a night, shame it's not a crew show with live entertainment after. Read Less

Week away with my daughter for a birthday celebration - cruised the Med. - cabin was ideal , staff first class and ship well run and kept. We used " Siren's " for a leisurely breakfast and prefered our evening meal in the " Orion " restaurant , food and service first class. Great atmosphere in the " Water's Edge " bar with the " Acoustic Soul band " with Tom, Ralph & Gideon - good entertainers. A special thanks to " Swapnill & Leon " for making " The Water's Edge " so special - nothing was too much trouble for them - we appreciated them . " Candy " the guy who looked after our cabin was another great asset. Our excursions were well organised and enjoyable - " Katerina " was a tremendous guide on our trip to Rome. Thanks to everyone - hope to see you's again. Read Less

We were drawn, by the fantastic destinations that this cruise offered: Florence/Pisa, Monte Carlo, Barcelona with some nice quieter ports thrown in. I'm not a fan of the "floating Tower blocks" I feel they are just too large. The Dream is a perfect size, and very British. I totally agree with the previous comments, its not perfect but you get what you pay for and everyone is super friendly ( staff and passengers) . Restaurants ,would recommend both Orion ( posh trousers at night ) and Lido ( more relaxed buffet) you can eat outside here. Entertainment , we found fine, my wife , a first time cruiser, wanted to go to every show and they work very hard. my main tip... if you are a drinker in any way ( we are) then I would recommend you buy the standard drinks package when you buy the holiday online, as you don't seem to be able to do it at a later date. We bought it when we joined the ship and could have saved £70 online. excursions, we felt the Pisa trip (£45 each) wasn't great value for money but not easy to get to independently and we wanted to see the famous leaning tower. Barcelona, pick the " best of Barcelona" , (£34 each) but great value, the guides take you to places you just would not find unless you knew where you were going. Overall , a fantastic time, although we did travel at the end of the season therefore not totally full. Read Less
