2nd time this year on this ship, first time as a couple, this time with friends. Had 2 outside plus cabins on deck 5- right next to stairs and lifts- quite spacious and well looked after by cabin steward. We were a bit worried that we would be bothered with noise but no problems at all. Not the fanciest of ships but, on the whole, fine. Generally claean and tidy. There was an unpleasant smell at times down on deck 4 when getting on and off the ship but other than that no major complaints. We were pleased that the captain changed the itinerary to avoid bad weather - meant we had some good weather to explore places. Staff were generally very friendly and helpful. Excursions were well organised. The quality of the shows in the main theatre were excellent apart from the comedian who was woeful! It was a different comedian to the last trip in February but he, unfortunately, was just as bad as the last one. Marella need to have a look at this. We found the food in the main restaurant and the buffet to be very good- could always fine items we liked. I think the food was better than when we were on the ship in February. We upgraded to the premium drinks package as the basic one didn’t meet our needs. We found the range of drinks on the premium package very good although sometimes staff in the dining room had no idea which wines were on this and tried to give you the basic wines. More training needed here. Weather on this cruise was mixed and one afternoon a film (Bohemium Rhapsody - fantastic) was shown in the main theatre. I would like more of this type of daytime entertainment ( with adavance notice) especially when there is inclement weather. Our main complaint was that we didn’t arrive on board until around 9pm and left around 10am to go home thus really losing a days holiday. This, of course, is nothing to do with the ship but a flight time issue. Overall we had a great holiday and for a fairly good price. If you want a fancier/ newer ship book one of the newer Marella ships or one of the more upmarket ( pricier) cruise lines. Read Less

We have cruised with Marella approximately ten times and sadly have to say this will be our last, the cabin was kept spotlessly clean but the smell on some decks was ghastly, I presume sanitation problems. The food was ok, we didn’t have a drinks package but at least Marella allow you to take alcohol on board as the house wine is absolutely vile. The best thing about this ship is the entertainment, the game shows and quizzes are good fun and the west end style shows in the broadway show lounge are of an excellent standard. All the entertainment team work especially hard. Not very keen on the resident band partly due to the ridiculously high volume in the medusa lounge. A special mention should go to Haizel (waitress) in the orion restaurant, the drinks manager who was very courteous and on the ball and David, Rachael and Holly (entertainment hosts). Read Less

We have just returned from a 8 day cruise on a Tui cruise ship “Marella Dream” visiting the Canary Islands. The ship was very tired and desperately in need of an update and refurbishment. There is no centre point like a atrium. The lifts are useless, small and very very slow….. quite often going straight pass your floor or so full with people you had to wait ages. Often we went up and down like a yo-yo as it went nearly up to the top where we wanted to go but then back down again! Our cabin again needed an update, beds were comfy though, and our cabin Steward Angelito who was very efficient and charming, kept it very clean. One issue was WiFi and internet. Most ships give free WiFi somewhere on board but not here!!! We could have paid for it but it was expensive, so was unable to make outside contact unless you found a café off shore, which was difficult. Another major issue was the shower as it was so difficult to adjust the hot water and it was extremely hot, changing even as you shower……. Very very dangerous!!!!!! On a positive note the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was good in both the self service and main restaurant, we didn’t try the speciality restaurants. Also the entertainment was the best we have had in all the other cruise lines we have been on……. Both in the theatre, the lounge and deck area. The trips organised by the ship were extremely expensive and not good value! All in all for the price paid for this cruise it was ok, but we would NOT recommend this trip on this particular ship. Booked the cruise as a package through the Tui website two weeks before we sailed. The ship is old and dated, but was clean. There was a lack of space to sit inside the ship that did not have music blaring out through the speakers. It would have been nice to have somewhere to sit and read other than in our cabin. Apart from deck nine all the outside space also has music blaring out. It was near impossible to get a sunbed in the sun. passengers were putting their towels on them when we first came into port sometime as early as 7.30am. At one stage when my husband and I were looking for somewhere to sit we counted 34 sunbeds reserved, we photographed them and an hour later went back and they were still empty of passengers just covered in towels. We made a member of staff aware on more than one occasion but nothing was ever done. On the open deck there was also a problem with people smoking outside the designated smoking areas. On one occasion a female passenger lying by the pool smoking and another time a gentleman smoking using his mug as the ash tray. This was unfair for non smoking passengers. We raised our concern with staff at the time but nothing was done about it as it was still happening on the day of our departure. We paid extra for an outside cabin on deck seven, spacious, a shower over a bath and a comfortable bed. The only downsize was the noise from the Broadway show lounge. Our cabin steward was amazing. The food was very pork orientated. When my husband had some chicken it was not cooked, still blood inside when cut into it. Sometimes the self service restaurant would run out of plates or cutlery and marmalade and was served with the cream tea as they had run out of jam. The restaurants also ran out of hand jel and the soap dispensers were found empty in the public toilets on more than one occasion. There were not enough lifts on the ship and I was repulsed when I came across a lady cutting her husbands toe nails on the sun deck leaving the nail clippings to blow in the wind! We did not book any shore excursions due to the cost, we organised our own. In Agadir the crew were not allowed of the ship and we were warned that it was too dangerous to walk through the port so we got a taxi into the town. I asked why a coach was not organised to transfer passengers to be told that when they had the taxi drivers blockaded the port. Why doe Tui go to this port, well its because it is the destination that it makes the most money on shore excursions. Profit comes before passenger safety. This was my fourth cruise but if it had been my first it would have been my last. Why is the ship called the Dream, because passengers on it dream of being on another ship. Read Less

Ship was well kept although a little tired. Staff were lovely, friendly and efficient. Aldrin, the cabin steward did an excellent job of keeping the cabin spic and span. The cabin was spacious. Food was reasonalble- very good on the formal night. Went to the Asian restaurant one night where the food was very good with impeccable service. Basic drinks package was very disappointing - had changed considerably since our last Marella cruise 7 months ego- much less choice! Red wine was undrinkable, according to my husband who is not especially fussy about wine. Also the majority of cocktails on the basic package were rum based which isn’t my preference. As said previously the basic package on The Discovery last year was so much better. Service at the various bars was excellent. Shows in the theatre were quite good as were the resident band who played a variety of music. Seemed to be an over dependence on quizzes in the other lounge. The casino and The Watersedge disco was good. Felt there was little to do on the sea day- I usually enjoy the plays that are put on by the entertainment team - not on this cruise- also no guest speakers/ enrichment activities- maybe due to only being a 7 day cruise with one sea day but there was a play on our last 7 day cruise 7 months ago. The guest comedian was extremely disappointing - we saw him a few years ago on another Thomson cruise and his show was EXACTLY the same- same jokes and routines. I can’t believe he is being paid to churn out the same material year after year - shocking! However, overall we enjoyed our holiday. Read Less

We have only been on three previous cruises, all on small ships with quite personal service so this one at 1,500 passengers was big for us ! Our ports of call in the Canaries and Madeira were all fascinating, we thought that the excursions were overpriced and after finding that the handouts from the ship were not very helpful or accurate we headed for the tourist information offices at the places we visited. There was good information about the ports on-line but we used on-shore wi-fi and roaming Vodafone after a message that we would be charged £2.88 per minute for all calls, texts, and data on "Vodafone Marine" ! Our cabin, 1004, was quite good with a settee and table as well as TV and tea and coffee facilities and a good size window, a bit obscured by lifeboat access equipment. We had a problem with the safe which two visits from crew could not sort out, Dennis, an officer from reception was the second to try, we were pleased that the safe locked itself and refused to open until he put his override code in twice. He confirmed to us that it was faulty. I made a third visit to reception to complain and they refunded my money but were unable to provide a replacement safe for us or alternative safe storage for our valuables, apparently there is no safe at reception ! Our only option was to find a hiding place in the cabin. Please note there is no forseeable solution to this problem as replacement safes are apparently not available ! On our fifth day I was up early with diarrhoea and vomiting, I called reception as required and was visited by a doctor and nurse. They confirmed from my symptoms that it was not viral and therefore probably something that I had eaten so I could either stay in the cabin on immodium for 24 hours or visit the ships hospital for treatment which would see me well again in a couple of hours, I opted for the latter and had extensive blood tests and intravenous drugs, the treatment worked and I called back in the evening to check that all my obs. were normal. Excellent service but a tad dear at £1,400 plus ! Interesting to note that the previous day had been a "sea day" so it was most probably something that I had eaten on the ship. We unfortunately missed Lanzarote on my sick day. On the positive side, the crew were polite and helpful to a man ( or person I suppose I should say). The highlight of the cruise was the entertainment team, they worked non stop and were really professional and talented. The food was all pretty good ranging from canteen type buffets in various locations, made to order pancakes, omelettes and pizzas, a proper sit down restaurant with good service and "pay extra" speciality restaurants. We were on a full board but not " all inclusive " basis so we paid for the "wine package" which at about £14 per bottle compared to UK restaurant prices. Drinks at the bar were similar to pub prices. We enjoyed a lot of the cruise but there were things that let it down, there was no hot water on one evening and for the hour before the captains reception the whole ship was without any running water, the Captain did apologise and excused the smelly guests ! I registered all my complaints on-board and filled in the questionnaire on our return but there has been no offer of apology or compensation, in fact no response at all ! Read Less

We booked this cruis Edith high expectations as we have been on previous Tui cruises. Embarkation was quick and easy and staff were pleasant and helpful. Our cabin was clean and plenty big enough for us. Our luggage was delivered quickly. Onboard the restaurants both the self service and table service were good and the food was presented nicely and it was tasty and plentiful. Staff were excellent. The evening shows were good although drinks service was slow at times. The shore excursion to Agadir was awful. The market we went to was dirty and really didn’t feel safe. My friend & I have been on lots of cruises but specifically chose this one as we had never been to La Palma & it was the one place we really wanted to explore!! The captain decided we were not stopping there and blamed the weather although other cruise ships did dock there. We also concluded that some flights to the boat had been delayed and felt this had impacted on his decision!! We then had to spend 2 days at sea instead of the 1 stated in the itinerary!! We felt this was unacceptable and complained. We were told we would not be receiving any compensation at all!!! I do not think this is a satisfactory conclusion as this was no fault of the passengers and left a lot of us upset as it was disappointing and 2 days at sea was not what I wanted or indeed what I had signed up for!!!! The staff very friendly and tried their best. In the Restaurant, (Orion) service was hit N miss, food choice was poor (we were supposed to be AI) surprised you had to pay extra for Steak (standard on other cruise lines)). Buffet was a nightmare so only used twice! Never used any of the other restaurants or had the speciality meals. The Captain was a real character and could probably go into Stand-Up if he gets fed up with the sea. Bars & Entertainment were good but watching the same acts night after night got a bit boring. Drinks, we upgraded to AI only to find there was yet another level you had to fork out to get the really decent drinks. Daytime activities were pretty poor unless you like a quiz bingo or watching them rehearsing for their game shows that you're going to be watching that evening. We found the WATERS EDGE to be the best for entertainment and service. One of the main problems we had was seating! There were ever enough during the entertainment in the Bars, so you either stood with drink in hand or waited to pounce when someone left. The other was cold, it was very chilly in the main lounge so make sure you keep some warm clothing handy The formal was a stand out for us, You begin in the theatre where you're entertained by The captain was of form as usual before going into the restaurant. We decided to shorten the British winter with a cruise to the Canaries . However when boarding the ship we realised just how old and underwhelming she is . The public rooms were fine . The cabin we had on Deck 4 (outside) was dark , and the carpets looked dirty . The window was rusty on the inside and looked like it had been glued back in and never been painted for years . Our steward was sometimes available but we never really saw him . We certainly did not have any "towel folding" in our room . The shower had a mind of it's own , either too hot or too cold . The bathroom is old and needs some updating . Food in Sirens was good and plentiful as was the Lido . In the Orion restaurant it was too loud , too jam packed with people and the service was slow . Public area Gents toilets were flooded especially on the Gala night . The ship had a 5 degree list when we had bad weather and large swell . Even though we were told the stabilisers were used , they were not too efficient . The elevators were slow and inefficient . We paid the extra upgrade to the AI which we used mainly in the Coffee lounge . All staff in there were excellent , friendly and polite . Nothing was too much trouble and they were very efficient . Our spirits were lifted when we went in there . On the whole , as experienced cruisers with other cruise lines as well as Marella Discovery 2 in 2017 we were very disappointed with the Marella Dream . To add to our cruise we stayed a week in Tenerife Costa Adeje which was good . Read Less

We booked this cruise through TUI and cannot fault the flight and transfers organisation. The ship is old and a little dated as expected but clean. The food and service was excellent, staff making every effort to please. We paid the extra for a deluxe cabin on deck 9 which was large and well equipped. Unfortunately these cabins were directly over the Medusa lounge whose loud entertainment continued until 1.00 a.m. every night. This type of cabin is chosen by guests who pay and expect a better than average consideration of position. The evening theatre shows were very professionally presented but the entertainment in the other main lounge on board consisted of a resident group and noisy audience participation games or quizzes each evening. There were no cabaret artists or other variations to this. Due to the all inclusive nature of this cruise there were a number of guests whose aim seemed to be to drink the ship dry which was a shame for those who appreciated and enjoyed a drink in moderation without a large bar bill at the end of the cruise. The itinerary was also altered after sailing, the ship not calling in to La Gomera due to "weather conditions" which seemed strange as this did not present a problem at any other port and we had booked an excursion for which we are still awaiting our refund. We later discovered that La Gomera had been changed to the island of La Palma on several cruises before and after this cruise and cannot believe that they have so much trouble with weather for cruise ships in that particular Canary island. A last remark - they need to enforce the sun lounger towel policy. Beds were left all day with towels but no occupants!! Read Less

Having read previous reviews I was very concerned about our holiday. Embarkation was excellent and the ship is extremely clean and the staff are amazing. Reception staff less so - unhelpful when we complained about noise in our cabin and when moved to another cabin in the middle of night only to find extreme engine noise they were very rude to us. The Orion restaurant is good and fellow diners well behaved in this restaurant. The waiters are amazing - service some of the best we have ever had in any 5 star hotel around the world. However, the decks are cramped, sunbeds old and stained and the ship is only slightly better than Brittany ferries - in fact the pool area is worse than the Pont Aven ferry. Do not go on this cruise if you want any form of culture or sophistication. Lots of bingo and hideous entertainment in the Broadway theatre. Very crowded in the buffet areas and breakfast on deck very busy. Stick to Orion restaurant for breakfast if you don't want to watch very large people eating very large breakfasts whilst talking very loudly on mobile phones to friends at home. I am trying to be generous here but all in all if you like Butlins you will like this - it is not like the previous P&O cruises we have been on at all but it is a lot less expensive. The Ports of call were lovely as was the weather and leaving the ship was extremely efficient. The main problem is the sheer number of people all crammed together on a very small ship and the type of people attracted to this type of budget cruise. Read Less

My first cruise and so chose a smaller ship on other's recommendations. With 12 decks it was big enough! Yes - the ship is clearly old, there is rust and the cabins are lacking drawers. That said, the crew and staff in all areas was professional, knowledgeable and friendly. The shows, although there was clearly some talent on stage, could be a bit dated; choreography was old fashioned, the Africa show had a 'white hunter' in safari suit who caught a woman in his net; the 'natives' carried bones. Dated, stereotyped and not entertaining, it was more like a 1950s Carry On movie than 21 century. Food was generally of good quality: varied, well cooked and plentiful. We stuck to Sirens for buffet breakfast and were very happy to do so for the choices. Orion in the evening was very good though the lunchtime menu was repetitive and limited. Trips on shore were very expensive. The staff selling them were the only ones who I found unhelpful, apathetic even. Upon asking about one trip, I was given a leaflet and told, 'it's all on there' as he walked back to another worker to continue chatting! Many were cancelled on the morning scheduled, as people tried to get to the coaches. I tried one trip but found it to be a glorified sales event at the pre arranged stops. Far better in my eyes to grab a taxi - there are loads all waiting - and take off to explore alone. At Tenerife on arrival the system for checking people was chaotic and huge queues resulted. Luggage had to be transferred by passengers themselves which, I understand, is not usual with most companies. This was inconvenient and, frankly, annoying especially as we had no clear direction from the staff. My real annoyance lies with the fact that although All Inclusive was the deal Tui sold and was the one I paid plenty for, on-board so many things are NOT included. Coffee, coke, sprite and WATER all attracted an extra cost. And they were not cheap. Even in the cabin, the water which had a ' welcome to your cruise' label incurred a bill once it had been finished. I find this reprehensible and feel the deal was mis-sold. I contacted Tui but have had no response. In an age when we are mindful of drinking responsibly I find it astonishing that I could gulp my way through endless alcohol yet was penalised for wanting a coffee or soft drink. This needs sorting. It really did put me off trying another one, certainly with this company. Read Less

Start with positives: Comfortable beds, clean if dated cabins, friendly staff, food in restaurant is good. Evening shows are of good quality. A lot of emphasis was put on cleanliness with sanitisation stations every where. Shame there is no atrium but that is due to personal preference. Plenty of sun beds for everyone. Negatives: If you want to sleep at night, then good luck. The cabins are not insulated from noise, you can here every conversation from your neighbours, at night every bang and clatter of the ship and if unfortunate enough to be on Deck 7 mid ship you will hear all the evening entertainment until it finishes, so don’t bank on an early night!! I came on holiday to relax but found it hard too when you are sleep deprived!! Would rather put up with my husbands snoring. I only hope the staff are aware of the noise in the cabins which are underneath the lounge area. Read Less

bigger cabin (outside one) at no extra charge - heaven.(?) Almost - only some quite noticeable engine noise whenever the ship was running on two engines but with ear plugs firmly rammed in, we spent the rest of the cruise in that one.Oh and there was an unpleasant smell from the bathroom in our 3rd and final cabin but we didn't complain because we couldn't face having to move cabins yet again ! Having previously cruised only on a large P & O ship (twice) where there were no cabin noise issues at all, we were disappointed to encounter noise problems in all 3 of the cabins we tried on the Dream - but of course there must be many nice quiet cabins on this ship ? Hey no problem, drink free beer all evening and sleep like a log - if that 's your idea of cruising. We were repeatedly told by the Reception staff 'Sorry, it's an old ship' as if that excused everything. One of them even told us she'd never cruise on the Dream herself ! No complaints about the food and certainly not about the ever-smiling staff, but the ship is showing its age (I won't bother readers with details) and if you're a light sleeper it may not be your best choice. They need to convert the cabins directly under the showroom to storage cabins + reduce the absolutely deafening , tinnitus inducing volume that the bands play at in the showroom. We'd be reluctant to go on the Dream again .The excellent, permanently smiling staff deserve a new ship.. Read Less

My first ever cruise, people telling me once I’d been on one I’d be hooked for life, I was there to be wowed and impressed. I did realise this was at the cheaper end of the cruise market, but as a long time TUI sensimar customer I still had high hopes and ignored comments about it being Butlins on sea. The boarding and transfer process all went well, and we found the overwhelming members of staff excellent. Yes the ship is dated, but our outside picture window cabin was surprisingly spacious, and cleaned twice a day. Most of the common areas were fine though the pools are not at all inviting. The meals were a mixed bag, breakfasts weren’t too bad, and the Orion Restaurant was of a reasonable quality. However the buffet meals in the Lido/Sirens restaurants were not so good. Everything looked appealing but most dishes were bland and tasteless, devoid of any seasoning or even salt n pepper. I recall what was described as Beef Vindaloo, yet it tasted like a casserole and could not even be described as a mild curry. Pasta dishes and many of the soups were also bereft of flavour. The entertainment was also a mixed bag, the 10 young people who form the Broadway team are highly professional as was the stand up comedian, however it’s a different story in the Medusa lounge where the Butlins reference emerges. Third rate Kareoke, childish quizzes, and worse of all encouraging people to do the Okey Cokey, having said that there were many stereotypical heavily tattooed lager swilling people who seemed to be enjoying it. Call me a snob, but this is far to Chavy for me Andy the reason I wouldn’t book again with Marella. Read Less

Went with my mum and sister; chosen by my mum as she had not been to the Canary Islands before. Places included Tenerife, Gran Canaria, La Palma, Madeira, Morocco and Lanzarote. The most positive part were the staff onboard who were always keen to help. Choice of and quality of meals was excellent. The entertainment team were excellent every night too. Due to adverse weather conditions, 2 of the nights were very rocky, and many felt sea sick; obviously not the fault of TUI. Poor weather continued for most days. The odd sunny day, it would have been nice to enjoy the sun beds on the top deck, but they were all taken, and the ones which were not had been "reserved" by selfish passengers draping towels over them. TUI need to address this. Another disappointment was that 2 of our excursions were cancelled; one due to not enough people booking ( hard to beleive that out of well over 1000 passengers, this could happen). Another was cancelled as filming for a movie was taking place in the area we were going to in Tenerife. The TV in our cabin did not work all week, as other passengers have mentioned. I guess we may well have been unlucky, and perhaps a cruise is not my kind of holiday. It seemed to be most popular with older passengers who prefer to stay onboard and enjoy making the most all the inclusive food and alcohol. When asked one afternoon by an elderly, overweight male passenger why I wasn't drinking, I was more than tempted to say "Because I don't want to look like you". I enjoyed using the gym several times. I would have preferred the choice of more activities such as yoga and aerobics. There was a pilates session on some mornings, but a bit too early and only if enough people turned up. Read Less

The cabin was good & have no complaints about that & as usual the cabin stewardess was very good. however one very disappointing feature about the cabin was the tv, it should have had 4 or 5 news type channels, none worked at all the whole week. this was not just our cabin the whole ship had no satellite connection at all. The food was ok but at times was not that hot although using the orion waiter service dinning room every evening. no problems in getting wine refills on the all inclusive at the table. the gala night was a little disappointing not too many in formal dress & nothing different on the menu!! The entertainment, singers & dancers were as good as we have seen & this was out 27th cruise. the ports of call were ok except do not expect too much if you walk into arricife town in formentera. all in all just ok. Wanted a short cruise avoiding too many days at sea and to fly from a local airport. Cabin was clean and of a reasonable size, however, bathroom dated and on turning on taps black water came out. Water pressure poor for most of the cruise and we had a leak underneath the sink and a toilet mis function. All reported to our excellent cabin steward. On exploring the ship on our arrival there was remedial/maintenance work being carried out and this continued for a few days into the cruise. The swimming pools and whirlpools were closed for two days into the cruise. We were told that the ship had been in dry dock for ten days and it appeared as though the planned work had overrun, could be wrong but you can only report on what you see. Our first evening meal in the Orion Restaurant was mediocre and varied in quality throughout the cruise, although breakfasts were good and staff attentive. Ate one evening meal in the Buffet and that was not any better. The Speciality restaurants however were very good. The TV Satellite channels did not work for the entire cruise and apparently was the same for everybody. Just prior to leaving the ship we received our bill and two excursions had been added which we had not taken. Entertainment in the theatre was good and generally the staff service very good. On our return sent an email listing the negatives and the positives, received an automatic response that a reply would take up to 28 days. It took nearly 7 weeks! Just prior to receiving a reply I also wrote to the MD, Andrew Flintham, about the lack of response, he did not respond either. The response was unsatisfactory as no apology for the late reply and seemed to gloss over the issues and did not even mention the positive comments I had made. Their main focus was that I was not entitled to compensation even though I had not requested it. Obviously they do not care to much about customer comments and certainly did not "deliver our smile". The first and last time we cruise with TUI. Read Less

there are some great positives, but many negatives. The staff are amazing and couldnt be more polite, friendly and helpful. They were the making of our trip. The food was excellent, and plenty of choice. The shows at night in the broadway lounge were amazing. Our cabin boy was fantastic and every member of staff we passed on the corridors always welcomed you. The staff are a credit to this ship. .So much hard work and effort went into these positives. Negatives..... The ship is old and should be laid to rest. We had awful weather which obviously was not the cruise ships fault, but when it rained, it rained inside and outside the ship. Some carpets in the siren restaurant were soaked through and there were buckets catching drips of water on numerous points of the ship. Lifts were very slow, small and some out of order for the whole week we were there. The entertainment team during the day, did their best to keep us occupied, during 5/7 days of bad weather, but im not sure the games played were to everyones taste, and the evening ones were very long drawn out. The bands that were on everynight, became a little tiresome when you had heard them during the day also. The places we visited were not that exciting. We should have been on the cruise a week earlier, but due to a sudden bereavement int he family, we had to change dates. Thomsons were very obliging in letting us do so, and i am very grateful for their excellent customer services for this. Read Less

Very much like Butlins. The “All Inclusive” deal isn’t actually everything which is misleading. You can update to Premier for another £50. They charge £8 an hour for WiFi while off ship it’s free in cafes. The room was very noisy with constant tapping. The porthole cover was loose and had to be tightened. I didn’t get any sleep. There was very bad turbulence on a couple of evening with the ship rocking; I had to remove coat hangers to stop them rattleling around. The excursions are very good but expensive from around £46 - £76 or more. They also don’t tell you that some excursions begin at 6.45. Food is ok but not special. Pools are over crowded and quite small. Lido Grill pool has loud music all day. Staff are excellent. Entertainment is ok. Clothes needed are mostly very casual. There was a Captains Evening where some people glammed up but generally it’s shorts and t-shirts so don’t expect “posh” despite the advertisement photos.Don’t think I’d go again. Read Less

We chose this cruise mainly for the destinations. Unfortunately due to high winds we were unable to dock in Sicily and this had a knock on effect to our next trip to Sorrento as had to dock in Naples . The ship had engine trouble which meant that we couldn’t visit Barcelona . The Tui staff were unprepared for these types of eventualities leaving us disappointed with the trip . The food was very good but the entertainment was also lacking . It’s put me off cruising for a while. We became expectant of Captain’s announcements on a daily basis and on the last but one evening of the trip there was an odd way of preparing us for yet another disappointment whereby we were encouraged to show our appreciation for the restaurant staff by waving our napkins in the air whilst they marched through and the waiters topped up our glasses. Unfortunately whilst there was merriment most of the passengers had worked out that we were getting yet another announcement and were prepared for another let down. Read Less

I'm not sure why we chose another cruise- our Thomson Spirit experience last year was patchy to say the least. This time we chose an 'Outdoor Plus' cabin. In our opinion it was about 3 grades up from our Spirit 'Outdoor Standard'. This time we had a queen size bed, sofa, ample wardrobe space, a bath and even a fridge- all lacking with Spirit. Our midships location on deck 6 gave a very smooth cruising experience despite some stormy seas. Food: We found the basic food to be adequate yet unspectacular, apart from the Biriani I had one evening- tremendous! Mistral's restaurant was the best of the three premium eateries. A heavenly dining experience. Kora La restaurant was nice but you really just felt part of Orion which you of course were. Some curtaining behind the screens may have enhanced the ambiance. My partner made the mistake of saying that she found the sea bass was a little dry and all hell broke loose. The head waiter came through to see us after profuse apologies and offers to get more food from our waiter- what a fuss. It was just our opinion not the end of the world but all of the hoo-hah spoiled our experience a little. Otherwise the food was very good. We were also given a free bottle and a half of wine against our wishes. Finally the Hot Stone restaurant- I hated the concept it full stop. Awkward eating to say the least. My lobster smelled and tasted off but I didn't mention it for fear of another embarrassing situation/ staff scrum at our table. In the second and third mentioned restaurants the wine wasn't served cold enough for us and we felt guilty for mentioning. Also the service in these was a little overbearing unlike Mistral's which was just right. Other issues worthy of mention: being charged for safe, missing Sicily due to weather and a casualty (no-one's fault), missing a day in Sorrento and being charged for a 3 hour day trip there (rectified afterwards due to complaints). Service: overall was very good. Room service exemplary. Otherwise not as good as Spirit. Sometimes difficult to get a drink as bar areas understaffed and some staff not great. Entertainment: A bit 'Butlinsy'. Several of the music artists were below par- one duo in particular had chronic backing tapes and frequently lost the thread during songs despite being nice singers. The gym was also good. Beauty treatments very good and reasonably priced in our opinion. Shops- average. Sorry if I've picked on the negative points but overall great room, great weather, nice ship with good facilities, good food and drink, great service and average entertainment. I'd give a 7/10 rating but can only choose 6 or 8 and it wasn't an 8 :-) Read Less

Got off to a bad start with a force 10 storm changing the itinery and missing Sicily and Sorrento which were the main reasons for booking this cruise but bad weather cant be helped. The day at sea was very rocky, pools had to be emptied and it was difficult to stand at times but that was all down to the weather. The ship is getting on but overall was fine although the very small pools look most uninviting with horrible wooden boards around the edges and unsightly rust patches around edges of deck. Hot tubs were lovely. Our cabin was clean and comfortable but very noisy with vibration. We ate in Orion every night and the food was good but not exceptional. The buffets were fine for breakfast and lunch but choice is limited. We upgraded to the premium drinks package as the inclusive wines were awful. Unfortunatey the entertainment was the biggest let down put on mainly by the show team. It was not profesional although we enjoyed the classic musicals night. Andy Abrahams ex x factor was poor and the magician average. The casino had one roulette table with the double zero therefore raking in more cash off players then necessary. Service was good especially charlie and Stefan in Orion and the staff in Tides bar. Overall we made the most of an average cruise and will not book with Marella again as there are far superior cruises available for a very similar cost. Read Less
