What can I say.... I had read the reviews and was seriously concerned before we left , however I was VERY pleasantly surprised and proved wrong! I was prepared for the “ tiredness” of the ship, I was prepared for the “ money grabbing” at every opportunity and the “ pushiness” to upgrade your package or to spend additional funds in the restaurants that aren’t included. What I wasn’t prepared for , was to witness just how hard the staff on this ship work to enable you to have a lovely holiday.... my god - do they work hard! I went with my husband, my 15 year old daughter and my 71 year old mother . Our cabins were the cheapest inside cabins, yet we were pleasantly surprised by how much space we had..... Yes, we had to pay for a safe, but it’s £15 euros and it gave us peace of mind. The showers were amazing- actually better than I have at home and the cabin service was brilliant. We had towel animals on the bed and my mums nightie was folded into a work of art every night which caused us great amusement. The cabin staff were super friendly and permanently smiling! To be honest, the entertainment wasn’t all for me as, in my opinion, it was butlinsly , however, you could not knock how hard they worked , or the effort they put into their performances. One afternoon, my mum went to a Cha Cha lesson solo, and , as she had no partner , she had to dance with Ethan from the team...... well- it made her week!!!...... food was brilliant...... yes, sometimes you had to wait for the bar, but staff were busy working and serving other passengers, not standing around chatting. My mum lost her purse one night and it was handed in by staff to Reception with all monies and cards intact. We felt very safe aboard this boat.Excursion to Rome was very tiring but well organised. The Trapani (Sicilian)cable car trip, we did ourselves for £69 euros for 4 of us..... taxi there and back for £30 euros and £9euros each for cable car .....so MUCH cheaper than ship cost. My overall advice is to go with an open mind. Yes, you can pay extra for steak and additional restaurants, but we didn’t feel the need to do so, as all food served was adequate and we certainly weren’t pushed to spend more. No one even mentioned to us to upgrade our drinks package, and again, it just isn’t necessary- drinks and cocktails are fine, I thought the photos they sell on board were expensive and I wouldn’t have bought them, but my mum did, and they were as expensive as I would have expected. I think the majority of people have an amazing holiday on this ship and I certainly WOULD go again...... don’t be put off by the reviews .... you’ll have a wonderful time ! Read Less

Arrived at the airport and we collected our luggage( which you must do yourself) found our coach and then our luggage was taken and not seen then til later in the day. Cabin numbers are put on your case at departure airport and they are all security scanned before going onto the ship. Travelled about 20 mins to the port where you then collect an envelope with boarding cards etc enclosed. You then queue to give card details over in case you wish to spend money on board as everything is cashless,a photo is taken and then you proceed to the ship. Boarding cards are essential they are scanned every time you get off and on the ship and also when using bars, restaurants etc on the ship. You can either get off and look around Palma or get yourself orientated its entirely up to the individual.Top tip is pack swimsuit and pool wear in hand luggage as you will not get your suitcase for up to 4 hrs after arriving and then you can use the sunbeds and pool as towels are provided. ( Lots of people were sat around doing nothing waiting for luggage). We were all inclusive, however they do ask if you wish to upgrade to premium at a cost of £50 pp per week. We managed without as there are literally hundreds of drinks to choose from on the all inclusive package, however you cannot get water and drink coffee from the coffee port or get bottles of wine or prosecco but you can get these by the glass and there is a place to refill water bottles in the Lido Restaurant. The only extra drinks on premium were top brands spirits and a couple of cocktails and canned drinks but its the same stuff as in the cans. Restaurants free to eat in are the buffet Lido,Orion and one other. The ones they charge for are Mistrals,Hot Stone and Kora La.The buffet was good for breakfast and snacks but we never ate their in the evening we always went to Orion which is table service and men have to wear long trousers and the food was all plentiful and delicious. Choices of starters mains and desserts, coffee etc. We dd eat at the Hot Stone which we paid for and it was absolutely worth it. The service the meal was fantastic. This is also where the captain sometimes ate. We did attend the Captains Gala night but we waited over an hour in the show bar and then left just as the captain was arriving....its not something I would rush to do again. Some do really dress up and some do not at all and look a complete shambles. Entertainment all day and night from family and interactive games to piano bar and groups and bands etc. The casino was in the Waters Edge Bar.This bar also held the late night disco which is when the bar staff really do work hard.I cannot comment on daytime entertainment as we did an awful lot of exploring off the ship and never stayed on board. We had already booked our excursions through Tui but they were still selling them on board. We did Trapani on our own. Taxi 15 euros for 4 of us to get to the cable car. 9 Euros pp return in the cable car and 15 euros return to ship. Taxis and buses are literally just by the port where you exit.We also walked around Trapani. We went to pompeii through Tui and we did Rome on our own via Tui coach then purchased the hop non hop off ticket which was great and very informative. Other ports we did our own thing. The excursions were well run organised and on time as the ship will not wait for you if you are late and are off independently. We used the spa and were treated impeccably and the treatments were very good value. The service on this ship is outstanding. We never came across a member of crew who could not do enough for you. They are mostly from the Philippines and are polite and attentive. If you need anything just ask and you shall receive (literally). Now the negatives...there are seriously not enough sockets in the cabins..we had literally 1 socket available this is absolutely ridiculous. Water should be free I have never had to pay for bottled water anywhere. WI-FI is a truly essential part of modern society and the fact that they charge a ridiculous sum for a pathetic amount is shocking. I went without all week but my husband runs a business and it is a necessary part of life. Also I feel that there should be one place on a ship that size that children are not allowed to go. They have free run of all the pools and bars and decks and sometimes just a break is needed from them especially those of us who work in education. The staff that really went the extra mile were Somnath-Orion Restaurant. Purwadi- Lido bar upstairs. Vipin - Spa Manager. Hector- Deputy Head Bartender. Kumar and Julin who worked in the Waters Edge Bar.Stefan- Hot Stone Restaurant. Daniel-Head Bartender and the amazing Acoustic Soul Band from the Waters Edge. Please be aware everyone has different ideas what they expect from their holiday and what makes you happy may annoy someone else. This was our very first cruise and it was surprising how much we had a great time. Definitely booking another for next year. Read Less

First of all everything seemed to be well organised and on time. Cabin staff were great, nothing too much trouble. Cabin exactly as described, very clean and perfectly adequate for short time spent in them. Food was amazing - so much choice, chefs would do other things if you asked. Lido restaurant ( self service) bit of a free for all at times- though that is the 'guests' ( some of them behaved like Butlins in the old days). Not keen on ' come as you are' dress code for this restaurant...... kids coming in from pool soaking wet and old guys with no tops on. Orion - fantastic food, very busy, sometimes queues to get in but they turn tables around very fast so you don't wait long. Wine waiters bit slow- we had finished main course by time wine arrived once and another time were half way through. Waiting staff are all very polite and friendly though. Pizza/ burger grill by pool was great for lunch-teenagers liked that one! Sirens on deck 11 was nice for breakfast - great choice. Lots of ice cream machines for kids. Afternoon tea served on deck 11 - lovely scones, sandwiches and cakes available. Drinks package bit of a con unless you are going to get drunk every night. They wanted £200 each including for our 15 and 13 year olds. That's £800! The drinks are not expensive - £4.20 for Gin and Tonic. Excursions - some are worth doing. We went to the Nou Camp- which was manic. It was so busy we were glad we had gone on the organised trip. They drive you around the Olympic village on way back but you don't get chance to look around it. Personally I would have liked half an hour here to do so. My bug bear for this trip was that they charged the same price for my 13 and 15 yr old when the ticket price is actually cheaper for teens. The other trip we did with them was to Pisa and Puccini villa and lake. Well organised but maybe a little rushed in the beginning at the lake and villa. They do try and sell you their trips but you don't always need them. There is usually a Tourist Information as you disembark. Monaco was very easy to walk around by yourself - went to palace and walk most of F1 track and went to beach. Or you can get a little train. Savona - nice little town to walk around. A lot of the beach is private but at either end there is a public part - was absolutely fine for a few hours, with a small snack bar. Toulon - get the Little train which takes you around to the beach and old town. First stop is the lovely gardens and beaches. They are man made but lovely - 4 little coves, plenty of eating places and platform to jump/dive off. The evening shows in the Broadway lounge were fantastic- choreography was fab and some of the singers would not be out of place in a west end show ( Becky, Luke, Charlotte). Day at sea - bit manic. No sun beds to be had at all.....people put towels on them and disappeared for ages. On the following day we were told that to combat this there was a deck patrol and if people were away for over 45 mins their stuff would be removed and taken to reception but never saw it happen. Pool small and some parents let their children treat it like a big hotel pool, jumping in, throwing balls around. It is not big enough for that and there are notices around to not do that. The ship had just employed a deck patrol girl and a few times she did speak to people to not jump ....bit not enough. We only went in briefly twice the whole week as we were put off by other guests behaviour. Wifi was expensive so we didn't get it and shock horror the teenagers managed without it by playing cards, going to the shows,TALKING and they had a few movies they had downloaded before we left! This was our first cruise. Would we do another? Yes, but on a different ship. I would pay more for a bigger/better ship.... little bit more to do on board. Read Less

This was our first cruise. We had read the various reviews and as a family with children, we wanted to see whether we suited cruising, or it was something we enjoyed. The ship was clean and we could see the staff working hard everyday with maintaining the ships paint and cleanliness. The cabins are dated slightly but the beds were comfortable and the cabin steward was lovely, every day making an animal from the towels for my son. You have plenty of towels, including ones for the sun beds, which makes a nice change. The food is good. There is a selection of restaurants, some you pay extra for more elaborate dining, but the Orion and buffet food is good. The Orion staff were very much a part of the key service you can expect. My glass was never empty and they would talk to you and get to know you all. That little time spent makes all the difference to us and was very much appreciated. The captains gala is a nice feature with photos that you can have. The captain was very informative in his morning announcements and I liked the little humour he would share within his information. Also very much liked that he personally saw off every guest at the end of the cruise. The destinations are a mixed bag. We had been looking forward to Pisa, however we booked a short trip, which left us little time to explore. That was our first lesson and we learnt about what to expect. Monaco and Savona were lovely stops and we did our own thing which is easy with the information provided. I have to say that we had been dissappointed with Toulon. It felt out of place from the other destinations with little to see and do. The ship appeared busy that day, so we thought that others must have felt the same. We made a similar mistake to Pisa in Barcelona. We had picked a short excursion and so didn’t see anything of value and missed the key sites. Our fault in not selecting a more diverse tour. The entertainment is very good. There is something in every bar from acoustic to the full on broadway type productions. The costume to these are extremely good and the entertainment crew very talented. We thoroughly enjoyed the shows every night. What makes this ship is the staff. Yes the lights and decor are a little old and the toilets play up. But the staff in the most are amazingly friendly. They are attentive and helpful. The bar and drinks waiting staff are under pressure and so you do have the wait for a drink, but you can go up yourself when this is the case. We were all inclusive and sometimes felt that we were analysed for having two room numbers for five drinks ordered. I’m not sure what that was about? Basically the family have loved their first cruise. We can’t wait to book our next and know that we know want longer experiences. In that the cruise was a success for us. From reading some reviews maybe the ship sets a expectations for us first timers, rather than for a sessioned cruiser. Read Less

Just returned from a week onboard the Marella Dream with my husband and here is my review the good and the bad. The Ship itself is very good - a little tired in places but was being tidied up (painted) whilst we were onboard. Cabins - we had a standard inside cabin on deck 7 midship the cabin was a good size (for the 2 of us) we had a double bed (not 2 singles as we have had previously on the Thomson's Majesty) The cleanliness was brilliant cannot praise the staff who serviced our room enough and had a lovely towel animal left on the bed every evening. Dining/restaurants - There are 2 Buffet restaurants on the ship and a main dinning room along with Speciality restaurants. We mainly dined in the Lido restaurant Buffet on deck 9 for Breakfast and Lunch and the food was always warm with a good selection/choice and very clean, Sometimes it is very busy and trying to get a table can take a little while but you get on in the end. There is also a Lido Grill outside which serves Burgers fresh to order and also you can get a sandwich/panini made freshly at lunchtimes. The pudding selection is also very good with a great variety. The Orion Main dinning room - we dined here every evening, We generally ate about 6.30-7 and found that this was a good time as you could walk straight in and get a table for 2 no problem. only on one occasion did we have to que for about 5 minutes for a table and we were asked if we minded sharing with others (which we were fine with). The food was very good also and always arrived pipping hot and very well presented. All of the Staff were very friendly and polite. Bars/Coffee Port (Explorers lounge)- Tides - The staff here were lovely always happy and smiling and come over straight away to serve you. The singers in the evening here were ok as well. Medusa Lounge - we never sat in this bar as there was never a table free always busy The Waters Edge - Loved this bar was at the back of the ship and you can sit here in the evening listening to the Amazing Acoustic Soul Brothers cannot praise these 3 enough they are lovely always smiling and happy and there music is brilliant. You can also watch the sunset from here whilst listening to the band. My only issue with this bar is there is bar far not enough seats this is a very popular bar (I guess due to the band being so good/or could be that the smoking area is directly outside) this bar definitely needs more seats as if you did not get there early you would not get a seat at all. Also due to how busy this gets it can take ages for you to get a drink. One night I waited about 30/40 minutes for my drink to arrive and then when it did it was not what I had ordered. In the end my husband would walk down to the Tides bar and get our drinks and walk back with them as it was quicker. ( he also said the barman in the Tides bar made the best long Island iced tea and would only get this from him) - again the staff are happy and polite but they do have to work hard and I think they need more of them or extra staff behind the bar to keep up with the drink orders. Explorers lounge - Really not impressed with the staff members in here. On our first night on board (after arriving late we did not get on the ship until 8pm) and being tired we went into here to get a coffee as it looked like a lovely place to sit and relax with a nice coffee. We had booked the All inclusive package when we booked the cruise. We walked into this bar and the guy in here asked us what we would like as soon as we walked in a and before we had even sat down, we said that we would just like a latte coffee. He straight away said these are chargeable and you will have to pay for them unless you buy the drinks package, we explained that we had already purchased the All Inclusive package and showed him our cruise cards which show this. He said no, no your not entitled to these coffees in here you have to upgrade your package which is £50 per person, Before we could say anything he had taken our cards and started filling in paperwork to upgrade us. I was a little confused as we only wanted a latte coffee, I asked the girl who was also working in here why I was having to pay a extra £50 just to get a latte she said you can get a latte just not from this bar as we use a different type of coffee and explained that we would also get all of the top branded spirits. I told her that I was not prepared to pay £50 extra if I could go to the bar next door and get one for nothing and we are also not big drinkers and were happy just with a couple of cocktails she then told the guy that we were not going to upgrade and he just huffed and ripped up the piece of paper he had been filling in and threw back our cards at us. We never went back into this place again. Entertainment- We went to a couple of shows in the Broadway show lounge - the lounge is very nice with comfortable seats- We went to a show (I think it was called the oscars) which was were the entertainment staff sang/danced to recent music and impersonated these Singers they were ok. We also went to a show were they sang songs from Musicals - this was very good and much suited their voices. Ports/excursions - We visited the following ports - we didn't book any excursions as we like to do our own thing. Cadiz - (Spain) - a lovely stunning place to visit as soon as you step of the ship you can just walk around and see beautiful buildings and gardens. Portimao- (Portugal) - This we were told we would need to book a shuttle bus at £7pp for a return ticket as the port was quite a walk away from anything, We booked the bus and this had two drop of points - the first was supposed to be the old town but when the bus stopped it looked like the middle of nowhere and not very inviting so we gave this a miss and carried on to stop 2 which stopped just in front of the beach. The beach was beautiful and there were some shops you can also have a look around. Gibraltar - We got of the ship and walked into the town area (quite a walk) we also walked around a place called the Ocean village which is just being built but is definitely worth a walk around and lots of eating places. and worth a look at the Sunborn Yacht hotel Cartagena - (Spain) - another nice place just to get of the ship and have a little walk around not far until you are in the shops. Valencia - (Spain) - This is another stop that requires you to book the shuttle bus service and this then drops you outside the castle gates a beautiful place to walk around with beautiful stunning buildings everywhere. Swimming Pools- this is my biggest problem they are not very big and you cannot get a sunbed around them at anytime because everyone even if they are getting of the ship will put out there towels first thing in the morning. Disembarkment - Luckily we have cruised before so we know that you need to leave you luggage outside your room the night before you disembark but we had no information about the time it needed to be left outside by or what time we could get of the ship for our pick up. We went to the reception desk to ask and was told we should have received this information to our room (this never arrived) he passed me a leaflet which contained our pick up time/time to leave the ship and also what colour luggage labels we should have, ours should have been chocolate colour but unfortunately we had been given purple ones in our envelope on arrival, I went back to the reception to ask about this and was told no they should be chocolate and was given two of these for our cases. I'm glad we asked otherwise our cases may of ended up in Cork and not Southampton. Read Less

Following a fantastic cruise last year on Thomson Majesty we booked this as Majesty is no longer available...In my opinion the Dream is a very inferior ship..We upgraded from last year to a balcony cabin. This was located at the back of the ship..The nearest lift on took you between decks 9-5... Pointless as most facilities were located on decks 10 and 4... You could not even walk down the stairs to the lower deck as they were blocked off... The restaurant facilities were adequate although there was only really the Orion restaurant that was worth visiting.. Sirens located on deck 10 was self service and there were 3 premium eating places that cost £15-20 per head extra per night.. Waiting staff were very good, but wine waiters were dreadful and very slow or just downright ignorant.. The cruise cost us in excess of £3,000 and was not worth the money. We went on 1 excursion to Pisa which was good value...but for the other ports we just made our own entertainment and arrangements... You have to get down to evening meal early 6.30 /7 pm else you will get stuck in queues.. Read Less

This was my first cruise and it definitely won’t be my last. To be honest, I was apprehensive after reading some of the reviews about Marella Dream but I needn’t have worried. Yes, the cabins may be a little dated but both they and the rest of the ship are spotless - the decor of the bars are modern and more up to date. The crew are exceptional- friendly, polite and very attentive- nothing is too much trouble. The excursions were great, well organised and ran like clockwork.I was impressed with the food too - the all inclusive buffet was tasty and I didn’t feel the need to upgrade the drinks package as the house wine was fine, and the regular branded whiskey, gin and brandy were part of the package , as was prosecco by the glass. The Kora La and Mistrals restaurants were fantastic and well worth the additional supplement. I loved the nightly shows in the Broadway lounge - great entertainment with a talented cast - not cheesy at all, just very talented. We spoke to a few people on board who were regular cruisers and they talked about bigger and more modern cruise ships but, for me, I really liked the charm of this ship - there is nothing I was unhappy with. I loved this ship, the crew and the holiday - would definitely recommend. Read Less

This was our first cruise to celebrate our honeymoon. For some experienced cruisers the Marella Dream may seem dated but for us this added to its overall charm. The ship is also smaller than many of its competitors but again this encouraged a much friendlier welcoming atmosphere onboard. The standard of service throughout the vessel was exceptional across the restaurants and the bar areas and lounges. The staff pride themselves on giving the best service to everyone onboard. The standard of food was excellent in all the restaurants and eating areas from the basic buffet through to the 3 a la carte restaurants. Our cabin was exceptionally comfy although I would recommend spending a bit more and upgrading, we had a premier cabin. Our cabin steward also added little touches of service which made the trip memorable. The entertainment was first class with different themed musical events every night produced to a very high standard. Overall I would thoroughly recommend this cruise to anyone. It was first class. Such polite and lovely guys and fantastic singers. I will definitely be back. Thankyou so much as this was my 1st Cruise. Marella cruises have got 2 new fans and will be booking tomorrow at our travel agents. Hopefully get to see Acoustic Brothers again. Made my nights listening to their music and fantastic songs for all ages. Cannot wait until my next cruise because I will never go to a Hotel again.. Never. Staff always smiled, polite and couldn't do enough for us. Even the staff outside the boat(Shuttle bus etc) were amazing. I have also never seen such a choice of foods and they were all delicious and catered for everyone. Hope to see everybody again very very soon. Thankyou again so much xxx Read Less

We chose this cruise mainly for the destinations. Unfortunately due to high winds we were unable to dock in Sicily and this had a knock on effect to our next trip to Sorrento as had to dock in Naples . The ship had engine trouble which meant that we couldn’t visit Barcelona . The Tui staff were unprepared for these types of eventualities leaving us disappointed with the trip . The food was very good but the entertainment was also lacking . It’s put me off cruising for a while. We became expectant of Captain’s announcements on a daily basis and on the last but one evening of the trip there was an odd way of preparing us for yet another disappointment whereby we were encouraged to show our appreciation for the restaurant staff by waving our napkins in the air whilst they marched through and the waiters topped up our glasses. Unfortunately whilst there was merriment most of the passengers had worked out that we were getting yet another announcement and were prepared for another let down. Read Less

The food was superb; always plenty of choice and always well cooked and presentes. All the crew were very friendly and helpful and the cabin roomy a clean. I’m not sure how they manage to be so happy all the time! The nightly entertainment in the show lounge has converted me to watching musicals. The cast were amazing! Unfortunately the weather meant the itinerary had to be changed for a couple of days and we missed the excursion to Sicily as a result but the 2 others we went on to Pompeii and Rome were well paced and very informative. If there was any downside I’d say that the excursion guide used a radio to communicate with the group through earphones. This sounded distorted or faint and there didn’t seem to be any mid point however, this was a small price to pay for an overall excellent holiday. We moved on to a hotel in Alcúdia for a further weeks stay. Read Less

Just been on Marella Dream on12/6 for a week.Ship can be best described as tired shabby.Have been on over 30 cruises and this was by far the worst.Food in main and buffet dining places very poor, unimaginative and bland and cannot believe had to pay extra for a sirloin steak.!!It was like dining in a canteen with some food totally inedible.,service poor and waiters not strained in dining etiquette. Also had to pay for a safe in room, another first.!! We had to miss the first port due to bad weather and the second port was changed from Sorrento to Naples. The captain said that shuttle buses would be available at a" nominal" fee but then we found your that this would be provided at 34 pounds per person, to take us to a place we were supposed to to be going anyway. This caused most annoying to passengers as was the captain's use of the word nominal! Gross exploration by the cruise line.Matters then. got worse with the ship having mechanical problems resulting in all shore excursions to Barcelona being cancelled because La Palma and hour and half journey to Barcelona Of course the better cruise liners would actually dock in Barcelona but suspect this is down to cheaper port fees,.So we ended up not going to the two places we principally chose the cruise for. Marcella cruises are relatively cheap but you get what you pay for!!If a shabby old ship, poor food etc are for you then this is the ship for you,but it simply bears no comparison to the likes of Cunard,Princess,Celebrity and PandO.Rather like going on a ferry rather than a cruise liner!!! I'm not sure why we chose another cruise- our Thomson Spirit experience last year was patchy to say the least. This time we chose an 'Outdoor Plus' cabin. In our opinion it was about 3 grades up from our Spirit 'Outdoor Standard'. This time we had a queen size bed, sofa, ample wardrobe space, a bath and even a fridge- all lacking with Spirit. Our midships location on deck 6 gave a very smooth cruising experience despite some stormy seas. Food: We found the basic food to be adequate yet unspectacular, apart from the Biriani I had one evening- tremendous! Mistral's restaurant was the best of the three premium eateries. A heavenly dining experience. Kora La restaurant was nice but you really just felt part of Orion which you of course were. Some curtaining behind the screens may have enhanced the ambiance. My partner made the mistake of saying that she found the sea bass was a little dry and all hell broke loose. The head waiter came through to see us after profuse apologies and offers to get more food from our waiter- what a fuss. It was just our opinion not the end of the world but all of the hoo-hah spoiled our experience a little. Otherwise the food was very good. We were also given a free bottle and a half of wine against our wishes. Finally the Hot Stone restaurant- I hated the concept it full stop. Awkward eating to say the least. My lobster smelled and tasted off but I didn't mention it for fear of another embarrassing situation/ staff scrum at our table. In the second and third mentioned restaurants the wine wasn't served cold enough for us and we felt guilty for mentioning. Also the service in these was a little overbearing unlike Mistral's which was just right. Other issues worthy of mention: being charged for safe, missing Sicily due to weather and a casualty (no-one's fault), missing a day in Sorrento and being charged for a 3 hour day trip there (rectified afterwards due to complaints). Service: overall was very good. Room service exemplary. Otherwise not as good as Spirit. Sometimes difficult to get a drink as bar areas understaffed and some staff not great. Entertainment: A bit 'Butlinsy'. Several of the music artists were below par- one duo in particular had chronic backing tapes and frequently lost the thread during songs despite being nice singers. The gym was also good. Beauty treatments very good and reasonably priced in our opinion. Shops- average. Sorry if I've picked on the negative points but overall great room, great weather, nice ship with good facilities, good food and drink, great service and average entertainment. I'd give a 7/10 rating but can only choose 6 or 8 and it wasn't an 8 :-) Read Less

TUI Marella Dream - one of the friendliest ships ever. It may not be the newest, biggest, most perfect nor glitziest of ships on the seas but of the 50+ cruises we’ve done on many different cruise lines, we find it just about the friendliest. Essentially it caters for the British holidaymaker and with a range of entertainment, choice of good food and dining options there’s something to suit just about everyone (though of course someone will always find something to moan about & I’d suggest they pay much much more and find themselves the 5* or 6 * cruise they’re expecting to have). Cruise Director, Jonny Riley does an excellent job and can fill the dance floor single handed! Keith Kerslake’s powerful voice and musical skills during the band jam evening had the floor packed to capacity and the shows can equal many west end performances. George, the Assistant Cruise Director is very professional as is David on the Entertainment Team who puts his life and soul into everything he does, despite perhaps a little unnecessary ribbing from his teammates. Yes the two pools are on the small side and are not designed for doing 20 lengths, they’re rather more for enjoying a leisurely dip and for cooling off. Given the Dream is is not a humungous floating tower block like many of today’s newer ships, we feel this ship and her staff do a pretty good job considering her age and size. We don’t think we’ve met more friendlier staff and friendlier passengers than those on the Dream and believe it is for this reason that so many former passengers continue to return year after year. We are looking forward to our next cruise on her too. Read Less

15 years ago I getting married to a lovely girl and wanted the honeymoon to be really special. My wife to be hated boats even ferries and I had to convince her a cruise would be ok.. A week cruise combined with a week stay on land was the compromise . A.blessing by the captain and a wonderful cruise won her and me over and we have since been on many cruises since . After 10 years we had a renewal of vows on the same ship (Spirit) and then this cruise on Marella Dream we had the most memorable and marvelous renewal .again. The ship is kept spotlessly clean and tidy and all the crew and the staff do a great job looking after the passengers. Unlike many of the larger ships Marella give much better service and with friendly efficiency as well. We will still be taking land holidays and there are some cruise companies we've not yet been on but so far (Thomsom) Marella will be the best choice for us and our next blessing at sea. Read Less

I have always enjoyed Thomsons cruises and wanted to have a Wedding Blessingfor my 15th annivesary onboard. This was an ideal opportunity to see if Marella cruises were as good as Thomsons. Pleased to say every bit as good. Yes she is an old ship but so much nicer than the floating resorts of other cruise lines. A lovely ship with a wrap round promenade deck, two good sized pools and great restaurants. Excellent food choices, varied menus and great service. I had booked three cabins, one outside plus, one single and one disabled. A minor problem in the cabin was resolved immediately. All cabins were spotless, mine had a bath with two powerful showers over. There was plenty of wardrobe space and tea and coffee facilities in the cabin. A stable ship, I never felt any movement even in rough weather. Captain Richard, Juliana and Lara helped to.make my Blessing very special and I was treated as a VIP all week. Staff in all areas very helpful and polite. The entertainment team work very hard, the CanCan was superb However, I wish the singers would not shout. They wear head mike so don't need to shout. I loved my holiday. Read Less

We have been on P&O Ventura before in a balcony cabin but Marella Dream was better in many ways. The entertainment team - particularly the shows were fantastic and Keith on the last night knows how to get everyone on the dance floor. The standard AI package includes branded drinks such as Smirnoff, Barcardi, Gordens, Beefeater, loads of cocktails, Bailey's coffee, lattes Strongbow, J Smith's and now Boddington cans. So no need to upgrade unless you like special whiskey. We found the lattes, coffees from the bar that were included in our basic AI package very nice - before we found these we had paid for 4 lavazza lattes in explorer's lounge and it was discounted to just over £5 as we were AI so not expensive if u like this coffee. You could pay to upgrade to premium AI to get lavazza free but not worth it in our opinion. Our outside room 6142 was v spacious modern and had a bath/shower and kept clean by Tia. I think a balcony would be a waste of money as we fell asleep within minutes on being in the room. Ivana and Gerome in the main restaurant were particularly efficient but all staff were brilliant and friendly. Palma was a surprise in that it is so beautiful and the ship put on a free shuttle service but we had to pay 4 euros return in Barcelona which was good value. The food was lovely in the Orion restaurant with lots of gluten free options and fine in Sirens for breakfast and lunch ( just wsh they didn't do so many consome soups). The Sun deck on the top was lovely and quiet with some shade and padded beds. We found the do it yourself trips via Tui into Florence and Rome at £45 each the best option and a guide travelled on the bus giving useful info. We took more euros than required because your bill was in pounds and the ship's conversation rate is poor if you wished to settle some of it with unused euros. The spa treatments were fabulous. We had tenders in Sorrento a bit choppy and Monaco v choppy with some issues getting people off with mobility issues but to be fair they put more tenders on with less people to get them off quicker and reduce sea sickness. The ship's interior is modern and not dated and much better than expected after reading some reviews. We do 5 star hotels and whilst the ship isn't 5 stars we had to overall rate it 5 stars based on the overall experience. Pompeii Tui trip was better than DIY as we would have missed some of key points of interest. Yes tips are included and a reminder on your card but we gave some to key staff that we felt went above and beyond. Read Less

as a regular cruiser with various cruise lines, this was our 1st time with tui and was not disappointed, the service was great, food was as good as any more expensive cruise lines, cabin was clean , entertainment was the best we have seen on over ten cruises with other ships. would advise anyone to try tui cruises. the service in the restaurant and bars were 1st class . the ports that we visited were all really lovely places and easy to get about. we enjoyed it so much that we have booked again for next year, and have recommended it to our friends. the embarkation and disembarkation was the best we have ever had in the past. yes the ship is smaller than some of the larger ships we have sailed on but we enjoyed it better than the really large ships. if you enjoy the smaller ships I would definitely book a tui cruise. We ate generally in the Orion Restaurant where the choice of food and service is first class . The staff are always smilling and quick The Lido Restaurant was also very good, but somewhat busier, Iast was noticeable how the chefs paid attention to replenishing and keeping the food looking good, All the public areas. are well decorated and comfortable and bar service within the bars and on deck is first class. Tui trips are expensive but an easy option. Must see. Gibralter caves. Valenciia modern and old architecture. Both well worth a visit. Missed Portamaio because of Tender transfer, although the new port will accommodate ship, the Captain chose to use Tenders. This was time consuming and most people thought it took too long. Used the Red hop on hop bus off just outside Cadiz Dock but was not impressed with a very bumpy ride. Tour guides were very good, but the one in Valencia had no concern for the slower walkers. On the e whole Tui gave an efficient service and even helped at Palma Airport where the queues were horrendous. Cant think why we bother to check in on line as we still have long waits. Read Less

Drinks ...cocktails are lovely my fav is Long island iced tea ,wine and beers are lovely also. Entertainment was ok could have been better if the sound was turned down a bit. Ship staff are all fabulous :) :) :) so helpful, polite every day ,they never stop working always cleaning and asking how you are doing. Collis are room steward ,made me a towel animal every day they were fantastic , room was kept clean and very tidy.always asking did we need anythink ,and have a nice day .we had a balcony room 8014 fantastic room. ONLY issue with this hoiliday was the Ship had docked up in Palma so far away, it would have been a verylong walk just to get off the docks and then to the town center.we are both walkers but this was too long . we found this happened a few times but they but shuttle busses on for £7pp on theses other days . OVER ALL FABULOUS ....we will be back xx Read Less

Got off to a bad start with a force 10 storm changing the itinery and missing Sicily and Sorrento which were the main reasons for booking this cruise but bad weather cant be helped. The day at sea was very rocky, pools had to be emptied and it was difficult to stand at times but that was all down to the weather. The ship is getting on but overall was fine although the very small pools look most uninviting with horrible wooden boards around the edges and unsightly rust patches around edges of deck. Hot tubs were lovely. Our cabin was clean and comfortable but very noisy with vibration. We ate in Orion every night and the food was good but not exceptional. The buffets were fine for breakfast and lunch but choice is limited. We upgraded to the premium drinks package as the inclusive wines were awful. Unfortunatey the entertainment was the biggest let down put on mainly by the show team. It was not profesional although we enjoyed the classic musicals night. Andy Abrahams ex x factor was poor and the magician average. The casino had one roulette table with the double zero therefore raking in more cash off players then necessary. Service was good especially charlie and Stefan in Orion and the staff in Tides bar. Overall we made the most of an average cruise and will not book with Marella again as there are far superior cruises available for a very similar cost. Read Less

As a "Cruise Virgin," I had nothing to compare the Marella Dream ship, cabin, food, entertainment or crew to. At 61 years old, I can honestly say this was the best holiday I have ever had! The choice of restaurants, food and drinks has been brilliant, the nightly evening shows stunning, and daily and night-time activities very varied providing something for everyone. All staff from the kitchen staff, bar staff, cleaning staff, entertainment staff, crew members up to the captain himself were as extremely polite, courteous, helpful and hard-working as each other, resulting in a camaraderie and sense of fun between the staff and the passengers. Having read the previous negative reviews for this cruise, I was more than a little apprehensive - but whatever caused those bad reviews has certainly been rectified. I met some amazing people, staff and passengers. My comments are repeated by my co-travelIer, who is a seasoned cruiser of 14 previous cruises, so it is not my lack of knowledge/experience of cruising which has prompted me to write this review. Thank you to all a TUI for a fabulous holiday - I'm already saving up for the next one and hope to see you soon!!!!! Read Less
