It was late in the year for us to take a cruise but glad we did, the year before I had been on the Eclipse the sister ship to the Silhouette and enjoyed every minute of that cruise, I have to say myself and the wife decided to take our 15 year old granddaughter on her very first cruise to show her mom and dad its the way to go.the minute we stepped onto the ship we was treated like one of the family, I had chosen deck 3 (3130) stateroom ocean view and found it to be just what I wanted. Our room attendant was a young girl who's name escapes me she was magic to us couldn't do enough for two elderly couple. Just a few steps away was the main foyer the Pastport bar, it didn't take long for the staff to get to know us, a special mention to Rozi Iluminadev, Moris Tavanez, Miza, Irfran, and head barman Sigh. The dinning restraint on deck 4 was a site to see, we was shown to a table think it was 447 Mathew our head waiter made us feel at home straightaway, Ryan, Sommiler Allan, along with a charming bar waiter Veronica looked after us for the whole 13 days.would I go again ,yes I would just for the attention and help they gave. Many thanks all.Bill and Audrey. Read Less

The Cruise Boarding was excellent, with no queuing at all, we were actually on board for 10.30 am. A little perk of being Captains Club Elite Plus allows us to board from 10.30am. As we stepped onto the ship as always I just felt ah yes we are back home, it is a wonderful feeling at the start of any cruise. The Itinerary was two days at sea to the Azores where we docked at 2.00pm with a sail time of 9.00pm. As it was going dark by 7.00pm we felt this was a little tight for a good look around Ponta Del Garda Island so we booked a ships excursion, we normally do our own trips. The trip was excellent, a visit to the botanical gardens followed by a one to a pineapple plantation and then onto the famous blue and green lakes which sit in the calderas of very old volcanoes. We really enjoyed the whole trip and a childhood ambition to visit the Azores was ticked off the bucket list! We then had another very relaxing day at sea down to Madeira where we enjoyed a trip under our own steam via two cable car ways. The botanical gardens high up in the hills. These gardens are a must for anyone who likes horticulture at all, there is colour all year round. The four day tour of the Canary Islands and as we have had many holidays in these islands we just enjoyed a relaxing stroll in each of the port towns indulging in one of our great pleasures siting in a street café with a cup of coffee people watching, Wonderful!! Another pleasant day at sea and then a full day in Lisbon on of our very favourite cities on this occasion we had a full tour on the open top bus which was excellent. We use the Red buses quite often and find them an excellent way of seeing the ports. Our State Room We had opted for a sunset veranda once again as we love the view from the back of the ship. I have heard all sorts of comments about these State Rooms, engine noise, you can feel the ship moving, soot for the exhaust stacks but we have never experienced any of these problems we just sit there and enjoy the wonderful view. Quite often at night the ships wake is illuminated with a coloured light and to sit there with night cap before we turn in for the night for half an hour is just wonderful. Food The food was excellent everywhere. We tend not to use the Ocean View Restaurant very often for Breakfast we go into Tuscan Grill for the Elite coffee Break another little perk we really enjoy as part of the Captains club benefits. At lunchtime we often east in the Spa Healthy Eating area. This is a great little spot where you can get some lovely light snacks which is all we really want mid-day when we are on board ship. The Grand Cuvee dining room is always very good and we always go for Select Dinning. We find it gives us maximum flexibility with whatever else we want to do, shows or other entertainment. The service was great this year although I do find the Sommeliers rather busy, I do like to discuss the excellent selection of wines with them but they just don’t seem to have the time these days, a great pity. Our great indulgence though is the Specialty Restaurants, we had seven nights eating in them on this cruise! Our number one restaurant is always Tuscan Grill. We choose to eat there always on the first and last night of any cruise and very often some other night. We love the relaxed atmosphere in this area the staff are always so good and we have time to talk with the waiters and sommeliers it is always a wonderful experience. Murano’s is another great restaurant, rather more formal than Tuscan but we enjoyed our two visits on this cruise very much. A great surprise to us on this cruise was the changes to Qsine. No longer do you order on the Ipad from a selection of worldwide menus it is now a digital spectacular I am saying no more at this stage I do not want to spoil the element of surprise for anyone but it is certainly a not to be missed experience we loved it!! Our final indulgence was a night in the Lawn Grill this is another alternative experience, you can, if you wish get involved in preparing your flat bread starter and in cooking your main course steak which we have done on previous cruises but we elected to have it cooked for us on this occasion. It is a wonderful evening do, not rush it leave yourself plenty of time to soak up the experience. It is a great night. The Entertainment There were four shows by the ships on board team and they were really top quality we enjoyed the all although we had seen them before. The guest entertainers who come onto the ship throughout the cruise were all excellent except for one comedian who did a show the night as we left Lisbon and he was terrible. I was disgusted with the subject t matter which was quite abusive to certain sections of the community. I was very disappointed that Celebrity had taken this act on board it certainly was not up to their usual high standard. The entertainment around the ship was good we especially liked the classical duo who were superb there were also the usual singer song writer type of group in Ensemble lounge each evening where we tend to have our pre dinner drinks and they were all excellent. The guest speakers were some of the best. We had Professor Tony Beech a research Forensic phycologist who gave six talks on all aspects of this topic and the increasing audiences over the duration of the cruise spoke for themselves, he was an excellent speaker. We also had another Professor of Art at New York University who also gave six excellent talks on all aspects of art and artists another great speaker and again the packed audiences in Celebrity Central spoke volumes. The third speaker was equally interesting and his talks were all around aspects of the sea from Tall Ships to great historical captains, again a fascinating speaker. The Ship The ship was spotless as always and all the crew were so polite and attentive I really cannot find anything to criticise we love Silhouette. This was a wonderfully relaxing cruise and we are counting the days to our next cruise this time on Connie!! Read Less

We chose this particular cruise primarily for family members who will not fly, so we could show them some fantastic islands. As with any holiday the weather was a big factor. We always choose an inside cabin because the only time we spend in the cabin (sorry stateroom) is to sleep. The cabin is more than adequate, was ALWAYS very clean with an abundant of fresh towels and toiletries thanks to our stateroom attendant, Sydney, who was always very polite and helpful. Lots of cruisers enjoy the “sea days” but our preference would be days in port. All the ports visited were really nice interesting places with plenty to see and do. Our one criticism would be that of the time leaving the ports. Most of the port areas would have something of interest for lots of people in the evenings when they transform and show the true nature of the places, we, and no doubt others, would like to have sampled some of that to get a real taste of the places visited. I assume not staying in port is down to economics, with the cost of the berth and not being able to open the casino, but, I would have thought the cost of fuel to steam all night to cover the distance between islands (less than 100km) would offset this, besides the greener issues of staying in port. I would be interested in what the company has to say about this. We took ALL our meals in the Ocean View as this type of dining suited us as we could come and go as we pleased, we could also see then choose (mix & match) from a wide verity of foods to our taste. We did not appreciate (although it was their job) crew/staff from other venues coming around trying to “sell” us alternative dining, leave us alone we are happy here or we would not be here. It is not made very clear when looking at other venues whether there is a cost involved or if like the Ocean View this is included. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed the holiday and would recommend it. Read Less

Chose this cruise as we wanted a more relaxing cruise and this cruise had a few days at sea plus my husband has always wanted to visit the Azores and our friends have never been to the Canaries or Madeira. We met two couples on a cruise on Celebrity Infinity 4 years ago and kept in touch. In fact we went on a cruise last year with one of the couples but this year we all booked the cruise together. We stayed overnight in Premier Inn Fareham very well located with a Ben and Jerry's handy for a meal and the breakfast always good. We then had a quick drive to the Quay. We parked with ABP parking and it was very well organised. Check in was quick and easy staff very pleasant and soon on board we like the way Celebrity give you a lovely welcome drink. Our stateroom not ready so we headed up to deck 14 and the lovely sky lounge to wait for the other couple. Soon as they turned up we headed to our staterooms to leave our carry on's and went oft to get some lunch. In the Oceanview cafe. We had balcony stateroom on deck 8 and it was kept immaculate at all times by Jacinda our steward lovely pleasant young man. Usual Celebrity standard but we were in the hump area so the balcony was really big which was a bonus. Just seemed a little tight on wardrobe and drawer space but the bathroom was lovely and plenty of hangers. It was quite near to the lifts or stairs an ideal location. We had chosen the late dining time and we had a table for 6. Beautiful Grand Cuvee restaurant and quite busy each night so felt like a buzz very good. Singh and Marijanna were our waiters and lovely young girl called Magdelana. Lovely nothing was too much trouble for any of them and the food on the whole met expectations you would be hard pushed to find fault. 3 in our group don't eat meat but there was mostly something we liked on the menu. Singh organised a veggie special one night which was nice. We had the Classic drinks package which is very good if you wanted anything not included just had to pay the difference. Just be aware though some martini's you pay a supplement in the Martini bar (only couple of dollars) but if you buy same Martini in another bar Quarsar for instance you don't. The sommelier Hose was very good we got a good rapport going the service was excellent and my husband likes to drink beer and the bar waiter had it ready and waiting every night on the table. Top ups flowed very good. The activites on sea days okay nothing brilliant and the quiz got crowded difficult to get seats especially when the weather was blowy. However we played bocce on the lawn, table tennis and a few other things. The captain gave a good navigational talk also. We wanted to relax read I went swimming pool was very clean and water pleasant temperature. Sun beds always available. We walked a lot around the track to try keep the weight in check no chance. Food in Oceanview good selection of food (we had lovely veggie burger at the pool grill also cooked to order)never had too much of a problem getting a seat at breakfast and lunch but we mostly missed lunch and went for the afternoon tea scones and cakes delicious. Cafe Bacio was nearly always packed around lunch time and am but you could get a take out so it was fine. We didn't bother with specialty restaurants this time we have been in them and they are really good but the food in the main dinning room was very good also so we didn't feel the need. Entertainment was mostly very good with Barricade Boys, violinist and Opera Singer excellent plus the comedian and juggler very funny. The cruise director knew her job well. Only down point was the hypnotist not fussed wouldn't go and see one again but some others loved it and the girl singers in the Celebrity singers dancers terrible boys good dancing good acrobats really excellent. The comedian on the first night was disappointing but after that the entertainment was very good with the above exceptions. 7 ports in total the best for us were Ponta delgada the Azores and Lisbon. In the Azores I booked a trip through tours by locals and Pedro Rodreuges was our guide excellent tour Sete Cidades and the caldera it was so beautiful and the weather was kind stunning views and secret lakes loved it all recommend Pedro. Range Rover beautiful clean leather seats lux. and he picked us up on time and nothing too much trouble. Lisbon I booked we hate tourism tour. Picked us up in a mini van we went to Sintra and Cascais gorgeous Sintra like a fairy tale and Cascais and Estoril coast stunning. We loved it took us to a restaurant in the hills beautiful food like tapas and green wine Sangria it was stunning then we had pastry's and cherry liquor iand all included in the price. Recommend Mimi and We had tourism tours the do them in Oporto also. The other 3 tours we did were ship tours although good price I booked when 20% discount offer. Maspalomes and Port Morgan in Grand Canaria we loved it nice half day trip. Reids hotel afternoon tea in Madeira gorgeous food as you would expect and lovely walk through the gardens. Lanzarote Jameos del Agua, aloe vera farm, Pineapple plantation and mirador del Rio fantastic views half a day we really enjoyed it. Santa Cruz in Tenerife we did our own thing nice port and we walked to the auditorium hot walk but lovely views from the cafe and it was very swish we thought would be expensive it wasn't very nice. Fueretaventura Puerto Rosario very quiet not much to do but fantastic beach right next to cruise ship berth. Take a towel and swim gear, lovely water but need jelly shoes really. Nice bar have a beer chill out kind of place. Forgot to mention the silent disco which we all loved so much it was such fun. The house bands were also good we spent fun times in the sky lounge dancing to all types of music. Beatles motown really good. This cruise was memorable because we all met up again and the Silhouette met our expectations for food service and great atmosphere. We are going to meet up again in 2 years time and hopefully the cruise will be as good once 2020 cruises are out will be scanning to find a Celebrity if possible. Read Less

Travelled down on Eavesway coaches to Southampton, faultless as ever and got to the ship in plenty of time, embarkation smooth and we were soon on ship, this was first time on Silhoutte after previously sailed on the Eclipse, found to be almost identical in layout only changes since we last sailed were the Lawn Grill and Cabana's on the top deck. Itenary was lovely, first time visit to The Azores and Maderia, which we both loved, lovely Black and White cobbled streets, people and weather were lovely, Canary Islands were nice and warm for the time of year, spent a bit of time shopping and the rest sunbathing, Lisbon on the way back was fantastic, loved the open top bus and Tapas in the main square. As far as the boat is concerned we tried Sushi on 5 for lunch on one occasion, staff as helpful as ever and pointed towards some lovely food , well worth paying the extra as was the Lawn Grill, a Tad expensive but as much meat as you could eat cooked right in front of your eyes (my advice is don't have the flat bread starter) main dining room was excellent always plenty of choice . Entertainment was different from the last time we were on Celebrity with much more going on around the ship, The silent disco was brilliant, all the singers and dancers kept us entertained with performances in the main foyer, back of the boat, as well as the main bars around the ship. It's the first time we had a pool party on board as well as star gazing one night. Just a final word for Eddie (cruise director) and his team who kept everyone on board entertained, loved the ENN TV channel. Read Less

We chose Celebrity following a recommendation from our cruise agent who said they were her preferred provider. Having sailed a few times with different companies we were interested to see how Celebrity compared. Our state room was well appointed and comfortable with a good sized balcony and comforts such as slippers and robes. However what impressed us most was the high level of customer service we received from all staff on board which was by far the best we have come across in all our cruises. The atmosphere on board was really relaxed and civilised without being pretentious and the majority of travellers on board were happy and sociable. All in all a superb relaxing holiday and we are looking forward to sailing with Celebrity inboard the Silhouette next year. Almost forgot to mention the ease of embarkation and disembarking which were especially smooth and we'll planned. Your competitors could learn a thing or two from Celebrity. Read Less

Our first time in the med and on the whole an excellent experience. Our first time on the Silhouette though we have cruised on the Eclipse before. Embarcation went very smoothly, picked up from home by taxi at 10.30, on board by 11.15, doesn't get any better than that! We looked around the ship had some lunch in the Ocean view cafe after which we were informed our cabins were ready what service. We had a midships cabin on deck 8, which was perfect, Our room steward Enrico was lovely and I would say the best room steward we have had on any cruise. Nothing was too much trouble. Nice sail away from Southampton, on a low tide, I have never seen the sea so low over the Bramble Bank before. We had opted for Select dining in the MDR and had prebooked the time for first few days before leaving home. Not happy with the table selected for us on the first night and said so, we were moved to a lovely balcony side table for eight which we stayed on for most of the cruise, meeting some lovely fellow cruisers along the way. We got to know our waiting staff they were lovely, many thanks to Alston, Anastasia and Katrina, you helped make our holiday special. We did not dine in any of the speciality restaurants as we thought the food was top notch in the MDR. The shows in the theatre were good in parts, awful comedian the first night, we hoped that was not the standard for the rest of the cruise, fortunately it was not, enjoyed the Barricade Boys, the shows put on by the ships troupe, a couple of good singers there, and the ships orchestra with big Mike. We thought the shows were a vast improvement on last year's cruise on the Eclipse. Also enjoyed the house band that played in various venues including the Sky Lounge, again a vast improvement on last year's house band. Our first port of call was Gibraltar, I have great difficulty finding anything positive to say about the place, the walk from the port to Main Street was truly awful, smell of drains, taste of pollution from all the traffic and litter strewn. At least Main Street is a pedestrian only area so it was a little better there, but visiting shops you can find on any high street with cheap booze and flags thrown in is not my idea of a fun afternoon out.. Enough said! Toulon was our next port, we just loved it there. The biggest rip off was the 20 dollar charge for the water taxi from the boat to the port, I can understand if you had limited mobility it's good to step off the ship and there's the water taxi but if you can walk for about 10 minutes you can get the public ferry over the harbour for 2 euros! It's a pity Celebrity don't come clean about that! We had lovely lunch in Toulon after consulting TA, 18 euros for three fabulous courses and we were the only tourists there (La Bistrot du Boucan). Livorno, we took the free shuttle bus into the town and took a canal trip on a small boat which was excellent very informative guide and lots to see. We did not journey into Rome but took a trip to a lake and afterwards to a winery for wine and Charcuterie tasting what a complete waste of time, not to mention money. If you like sitting on a coach for over an hour to reach a less than spectacular lake where you spend about twenty minutes, twenty minutes too long when we were there as a motor bike convention was taking place, 500+ motor bikes with the noise and pollution they produce, well this trip is for you! From there onto the winery which just happened to be under the flight path to Rome airport, so a plane every 90 seconds, so low you could tell which airline it was. Not a good day out, avoid like the plague, plus a useless guide and a bus driver who got lost, yes you could not make it up! Corsica was just wonderful, have holidayed there a couple of times so we wanted to reacquaint ourselves with the beautiful interior of the island. We took the Prunelli gorge trip and yes it was gorgeous, a stop for coffee along the way and the scent from the maquis is just wonderful. Lots of photo opportunities and a fabulous guide made for a memorable trip, tip, when you get on the coach sit on the right hand side for the best views, if you suffer from vertigo sit on the left! Next Barcelona, we took a city trip with a wonderful guide which included a visit to the Sagrada Familia, well worth the cost as the queues for non-ticket holders was pretty big. We had a nice included Tapas lunch on las Ramblas and time to look round the wonderful market. Well worth the cost. Finally last but certainly not least lovely Lisbon. We did not dock till lunch time then it was a mad dash to one of our favourite restaurants ,Maria Catitas, where we managed to get a table, one Cataplana and some sardines later we had a walk round Lisbon and took the tourist tram, a bit expensive but worth it as we saw parts of Lisbon we had not seen before. Then after a custard tart, well you have to in Lisbon, back to the ship. We were lucky there was just one other ship in port an Azamara ship which wasn't too large, friends were there a few days later when there were four very large ships in, you couldn't move! Pleased to see the passenger terminal is finished, so you get an airbridge to the ship. The two days sailing home were a tad disappointing weather wise, but it's just luck of the draw and cannot be helped. All in all a memorable holiday and yes we woul d do it again, but would not leave the ship in Gibraltar. All chaos at Southampton, what's new?, we were the only ship in port but it still took forever to clear the docks. The city gets so much money from cruise ships and passengers, please spend some of it on road improvements. Read Less

I have been on The Eclipse several times on its Western Mediterranean itinerary but with it swapping to Dublin and the Silhouette's inclusion of Corsica and Barcelona I was tempted. I wished to take my younger daughter with me so she could experience a luxurious, yet restful holiday ..... and that was achieved in spades ! Embarkation was the quickest ever. We had stayed the night before at the Holiday Inn and got a taxi to the port in the morning. Before we had even finished getting our cases put on the waiting trolleys a lovely gentleman appeared from the Assistance team to whose me into reception and off to the official checking in. I have to say that from start to finish Celebrity and its staff are marvellous for disabled people and they remove any concern about holidaying and travelling. It means a great deal and I cannot praise them highly enough. We were on the ship in almost record time with a glass of sparkly and off to Cafe al Bacio for the first of many delicious coffees. After a light lunch in the Oceanview the announcement came about 1pm that the rooms were ready and off we went to our Deck 9 1A Veranda stateroom. As a seasoned (Elite) Celebrity traveller I knew what to expect from the room but my Daughter was relieved to see the hanging wardrobe space, spacious bathroom with again yet more useful storage. She unpacked for us both our luggage having "raced" us to the room! We were easily all prepared and in holiday mode by the time we were summoned to the Muster drill. Oddly enough the staff decided to empty the theatre from the front first instead of the more obviously efficient rear rows first which meant we had quite a wait to be able to access the lifts as I had organised the "sail away" for the Cruise Critic roll call folks and I was a little concerned at not being able there to greet people with name badges etc. Anyway we got there eventually and had a very pleasant )if trifle cool and windy) sail away from Southampton. I had chosen Select Dining which suits me better as I don't like to be "tied to " a time. WE never had to wait and as we were always very happy to share a table we had a great dining experience with so many interesting and friendly co diners. I have to say I think the standard of the food exceeded the Eclipse and we simply never had a meal which didn't meet expectations. We both loved the menus, taste, variety and presentation of the food without exception. Even though we went to all 3 speciality restaurants we thought that the MDR took some beating ! The wait staff were efficient and attentive and we thoroughly enjoyed our evenings there. We always took breakfast in the Oceanview and yes at times it was pretty full but we always ended finding somewhere to sit. The Silhouette has had the great idea of reserving the more easily accessible tables for disabled people and that was a great help. There was quite a high incidence of disabled passengers travelling and it is to Celebrity's credit that they try very hard to ensure that disabled travellers get a great cruise experience too. The staff everywhere were very disabled aware..... the restroom staff would rush to open doors - most appreciated and the staff in the Oceanview were quick to spot you and approach to ask whether they could help. This was very welcome as they would walk round and collect breakfast items one wanted. Full marks ! I am now however suffering withdrawal symptoms as I miss my morning mushroom omelette.....freshly cooked in front of me.... The food and selection in the Oceanview was outstanding and the desserts were most definitely far better than those I remember on the Eclipse. We dined in the Tuscan grill - great venue and ambience, Murano - delicious food and attentive service and the new "Petit Chef"- which was different. My daughter was persuaded into booking it for our last evening meal...... it was rather short of customers though to be expected on the last night. The Bouillabaisse was wonderful...... best seafood experience of the trip, Lobster course - fine and the filet mignon - lovely. On balance I think I preferred Quisine as it was but fleet wide that seems to have gone..... so..so be it. My daughter loves to cook and is an experimental and experienced cook and she praised the food on the ship very highly. Full marks Celebrity. I admit we didn't get to any of the shows but we found plenty to interest us during the evenings. We both found 95% of our fellow travellers to be good company and we made good use of the Martini bar. We also really enjoyed the musicians around the ship at the different venues - the classical musicians in the Ensemble bar, the solo singer/guitar player was very good indeed as was the jazz performer with his accompanists who we were told by a diner companion was actually Ella Fitzgerald's son ! On this trip I also "got" the Silent Disco bug as we went to several of those and really enjoyed them! There was plenty of "life" around the ship and my daughter loved looking out each night for a really fabulously dressed couple. They really took the "best dressed couple award" as my girl was convinced that the lady had outfits like Westwood's even if not authentic and the male partner had some of the most amazing suits.... We also used to try and join the trivia quizzes. My daughter really excelled on the music quizzes and with the help of some great folk we managed a few wins at General Trivia - great fun ! The Cruise Director Eddy was in evidence about the ship, though one evening's trivia in the Sky lounge run by "Sam" left our group (and I suspect others) excluded as she insisted that people should run onto the dance door with their trivia answers - 1. maybe not too safe an activity and 2. certainly not inclusive for disabled travellers or some of the older people wishing to play - it certainly excludes our team of 6. It was more suited to a Club 18 to 30 clientele which was certainly not this demographic! My girl just really wanted a holiday which was to be restful - no rushing about so she said she wasn't wanting to do "trips" however the one she was eventually interested in was the Tuscan wine tasting starting from Livorno. Alas this was a little disappointing as the guide didn't aways point out features of interest along the route eg the Tower of Pisa which I spotted from the motorway ! The venue was a farm which has diversified into wine and olive oil production. The buffet they provided was very nice but alas we weren't too impressed with the wine at the tasting. Their "shop" was a very muted affair but we bought their most expensive wine which we didn't try, hoping that it would be nice and also some of the olive oil. The drive through the countryside was lovely. Gibraltar - we just left the ship which docked at 1pm and joined a local minibus tour of the rock. These buses are right at the entrance to the port building and are reasonably priced for the trip. The driver took pains to make the tour interesting and indeed gave advice as to how to act around the apes which made a lot of sense and which worked ! I had been up the rock many times but it was a first for the daughter. On the way back down he gave the option of returning to the ship or to go and shop along the main street so the daughter and I separated as she wished to buy some beauty products. The highlight of the straits os that one can usually get to see dolphins - which we did and also some fish jumping over the waves .....just great (We did however miss the whales - adults with a juvenile) which some lucky people spotted when the ship was in the Atlantic. Toulon - we had always planned to go to the beaches just 15 mins from the port at Les Sablettes. Alas there weren't any taxis at the port when we left the ship and despite waiting an hour none came. Luckily my daughter managed to find an Uber from her phone Uber ap and a lovely driver in a limousine Jaguar came and took us there and agrees to return for us later in good time for the ship's departure. We had a great day on a simply lovely beach surrounded by French people. The beach was lovely and sandy and the sea a good depth..... little fish swimming around. We swam and sunbathed and then had a lovely lunch of moules and frites overlooking the beach and sea. Later in the afternoon we had a fabulous ice cream from an artisan workshop which was quite the nicest I have ever had ! Livorno we did the aforementioned Wine tasting trip. Rome..... we remained on the ship having a chilled out day- just relaxing. Corsica. We were tendered to the harbour where was parked the most enormous ship ever ! a new German vessel which I was told help 5000+ passengers ! Corsica was lovely with the attraction of a fabulous market. WE bought some charcuterie and some fabulous cheese with truffle :) Yummy. We only could manage a drink and an ice cream at a cafe however...... Barcelona. I had planned to take the Hire scooter into the city but with the info given that is was a 15 min drive there I wavered and instead we paid a shuttle bus fee. I wished I had stuck to my original plan. Instead I used the wheelchair and it was difficult especially as I wanted to show Jen the marvellous food market just off Les Ramblas, - La Boqueria. Wish I had done better research and that we had eaten there instead of the restaurant we had picked in Placa Reial as the seafood lunch we selected was very disappointing, (restaurant Tobagan ) The market eateries looked brilliant and something to remember for next time. Lisbon - we took the mobility scooter off the ship but be warned Lisbon's streets are not too disabled friendly as the "dropped" kerbs are not flat but are a few inches high quite often and uneven. I was told of how one chap overbalanced his scooter and fell off as it keeled over ! However with very careful driving we managed to access the shopping area and had a good look round with a lunch snack of sardines...... a must have when in Portugal. The last 2 sea days saw us sail through foggy conditions and though the sea looked rough I didn't feel it and I now feel fully confident that I can cope with rougher seas. Earlier in the cruise we had had the drama of 2 helicopter arrivals to take ill /injured travellers off the ship although we were told that both parties managed to return to the ship a couple of days later. There were crew announcements made though - one on the last evening - which we found out were summoning crew to attend to travellers who had died. Considering the age of some this shouldn't have been a surprise. It was dealt with tactfully but I am just left hoping it wasn't anyone we had had the good fortune to meet. Disembarking wasn't as easy as in the past. Someone told me we docked a little later than usual - probably due to the fog. We had been allocated an 8 30 leave but that timing wasn't working with the luggage number announcements but because I can get quite stressed about being on time for trains we left at our designated time without waiting for passenger assistance as they were very busy. We managed though and the cases were there and despite the horrid pouring rain we managed to get across to the taxi rank and off to the station. The taxi driver though on speaking said to his base that he wasn't returning to the port because of the volume of traffic. I thought that maybe not as many people as usual left the ship "under their own steam" earlier so that there were more people to get off the ship. So - we were two happy travellers.... I had upgraded us to the premium drinks package which meant we didn't worry about prices. I had also got the internet package and I found it to work pretty well - we could access email etc and I even got to FaceTime with home :) so all well there then. Read Less

Liked the itinerary and was recommended to sail celebrity by a family member. We wernt disappointed. The food was brilliant wherever you ate we loved the main Dining room in an evening with perfect food and service. We also ate in Le Petite chef which was amazing and we would recommend the experience to everyone. All the staff were amazing and couldn't do enough for you. The entertainment was very good and the selection of bars were brilliant. We enjoyed the shore excursions and felt they were run very well. We are looking forward to booking our next cruise with celebrity in 2019 we found embarkation very smooth never handled our cases from leaving the hotel till they arrived outside our stateroom much better than when you fly. The ship itself is very modern and spotlessly clean throughout. All this made our holiday one of the best we have ever had Read Less

We chose this ship because we had been so pleased with our previous cruises on Eclipse and were told that Silhouette was near enough identical to her. We were not disappointed, the ship was just as we imagined and met our every expectation. We booked this cruise whilst on board Eclipse last year and chose a Suite because of all the perks that came with it. It gave us Luminae as our designated restaurant, with outstanding service and menu. Michael's Club as a private functional bar cum entertaining venue and meeting place. Katerina, our Butler, which originally we thought we were not going to have a need of - until she made us aware of all the areas that she could assist with - and wow, was she indispensable. Also, Nico , a personal concierge based in Michael's Club, who kept surprising us with her knowledge, expertise and ability. The entertainment on board will always suit some and not others. We found the theatre company singers very good on the whole, apart from one female who screeched out of tune and we ( and others ) could not understand one word of what she was singing. The shows themes were a little confusing and sometimes did not understand what they were trying to convey. The best of the guest acts was definitely The Barricade Boys, excellent. The only organised excursion was to Pisa and that included a road train and a canal trip, wonderful. Otherwise we did our own thing. Are we going with Celebrity again? Have already booked for next year whilst on board Silhouette. Read Less

Loved our cruise. The staff are all so professional, kind and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. Cleanliness was superb. When we got back from the cruise I had to stop at the services to use the WC, when I came out I said to my hubby how spoilt we had been on the ship as we got so used to the high standard. The cabin was an interior and was great but I did miss not having natural light. Next time a balcony if we can. We were on the select dining and it was brilliant, turning up when ready and meeting so many different people, though in the last week we always requested to go on the same table with friends we made. The dining team were excellent, Christopher/Milos/Katrina - top team, the food was 5 star. I am vegetarian and had my own menu each evening with different choices. We used the buffet cafe for breakfast and lunch. They has a huge variety of cuisines and the food was outstanding though I did feel that lunch could have had more vegetarian options. Entertainment was excellent, something for everyone at all times and the entertainment staff were great. Port stops were good, though we couldn’t get my husbands mobility scooter on the tender so had to forego Corsica. Also some ports were some distance and involved a fair bit of walking or public transport - we should have planned better. Access for disabled was brilliant, he took his scooter everywhere and there was always room to park it. One of the negatives was being continually invited to sales events. Would I go again, Yes, 100% recommend . Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was sailing to the destination we desired and because of the raving reviews. We can fault NOTHING and praise EVERYTHING. From the luxurious and stylish design of the ship, to the amazing, warm and sweet service we received, to the food, oh my God the food was amazing. To the room, cleaned twice daily. To the itinerary, the entertainment (thank you Eddy!) To the bedroom and bars. We had awesome servers in the MDR- Jerry kept filling my husband's glass with wine, Myo and Rajni were so attentive to us! Filip in the Sunset Bar was great, Gina, our room attendant, was the best. Eddy, the cruise director and Jayne Curry with her wonderful voice and amazing personality. We loved every second of it and although it has been a few days since we returned home, we miss it. My husband opted for the Standard Alcohol Package which offered him quite a variety of house wines, beers and spirits. I had the standard non alcoholic package and enjoyed treating myself to lush teas and premium coffees. The food both in the Ocean View Cafe and MDR was amazing. We did not try any speciality restaurants because we were super impressed with the MDR food. All in all, this was one of the best holidays of our life. We are in our mid 30s so we have def changed our view that a cruise is for the older generation! It was full of young and young at heart 40, 50 and 60 year old holiday makers. Read Less

Had not been to Norwegian Fjords before. Itinerary was one of the best for several years, small towns and villages easy to get round without any strenuous tours. Those tours I did choose were with companies other than Celebrity and pre-booked online. Celebrity Silhouette was up to its usual standard of maintaining a smooth operation, embarkation at Southampton excellent. I didn,t disembark as carried on for second "back to back" cruise. Disembarking and returning from tours was again a smooth operation. I will not comment too much in regard to on board activities etc. as I do not participate in many of them. The bar staff at my favourite bar (Martini) were beyond excellent. The deck areas were always maintained clean but sometimes crowded. Stateroom was kept clean and tidy on a daily basis. Restaurants and dining, On this cruise everything seemed to be of an acceptable standard both in Main Dining Room and in Speciality Restaurants. However read my next review of the back to back cruise to Meditteranean where main dining came in for some criticism. All in All would recommend this cruise but not go again because once seen, once seen. Read Less

Provided wish list for Juliette at www.cruises who gave three options with three cruise lines. We selected one Celebrity (new to both of us) and one Royal Caribbean. All aspects of the Celebrity cruise were excellent. Staff in all roles were attentive, friendly, polite and efficient. Luggage transfer was excellent at both ends of cruise. There was a helicopter lift-off of a sick patient and husband on first night and from our stateroom 7103 window (opposite helipad) we witnessed superb teamwork between Silhouette and helicopter crews. Stepping off in each Port with no need for tendering or shuttle made everything so relaxed and easy. We had pre-booked one trip with Cruising Excirsions.com to Geiranger by coach which was an amazing experience. The daily drinks allowance was very well received. The only issues causing inconvenience were insufficient seating at times when entertainers were in areas of ship and lack of real help and guidance when enquiring about booking another cruise. My friend,Rosina Farrance, and I both Joined Captain’s Club and are interested in another cruise on Celebrity Silhouette, in 2019 in a similar cabin, and are currently talking to Juliette at www.cruises. This was our first time on Silhouette but we knew she was the sister ship to Eclipse so we felt we would feel 'at home' pretty quickly and we were sure we would be well looked after. Our embarkation was extremely fast and efficient, taking only about 10-15 minutes from arrival to the port to being welcomed with a glass of bubbly on board. As Concierge passengers, we had a delicious lunch in the Main Dining Room and were in our cabin by 1330. We were in cabin 1034 on Deck 10, which was very comfortable. Plenty of hanging storage, some drawers and plenty of storage space in the cupboards over the bed. My dresses and hubby's shirts are mostly packed on very light hangers for ease of unpacking and we knew that it would be easier to have medium sized storage cases for the overhead cupboards from past experience so our unpacking was very quick. We met our cabin steward, Joy, whilst we were unpacking and she told us how to contact her if we had any questions or needed help in any way. Throughout the cruise, she lived up to her name and looked after us very well. The food in the main dining room was at least as good as it had been on the Eclipse, or perhaps even better. We had Select Dining and we requested a table for two as my hubby struggles to hear conversations in restaurants with the general buzz of conversation. We were taken to Table 57 and were so very well served with recommendations and lovely service by Budi S, Kenneth and Bayu, that we requested this table for the rest of the cruise. After dinner we decided to see the show in the Theatre, which was a comedian called Paul Eastwood, a very funny guy with so much original material we were very impressed. Another great act is Jayne Curry, who has a fabulous singing voice and also one of the funniest comedienne's I have ever seen. We didn't go to the Theatre every night, but we heard great reviews of every show. As Captain Club Members, we were invited to their Party in the Sky Lounge with free drinks and canapés. Our first port was Bergen, where we took the Hop On Hop Off bus, which was very interesting even though it stayed quite local to the town. The cost was high in comparison to HOHO buses in other countries, but it is a fact that Norway is expensive anyway. Our next port was Flaam and we had booked the excursion on the Flaam railway, which had been highly recommended by our son and his wife when they travelled on it. The Silhouette had two carriages dedicated to it, but this did not prevent a total shambles when we were boarded. A few passengers were very upset that there were not enough seats for couples to sit together and with the unhelpful attitude of the train staff. I believe that this excursion, although arranged by Celebrity, was not in the control of Celebrity staff because it certainly didn't live up to the standard we have come to expect. I did report back, in writing, to the Excursion desk and was contacted and thanked for providing feedback which would be used when arranging future excursions on the Railway. This was the only excursion we had booked, because we had been to our other ports previously and were happy to stay fairly close to the port areas. The weather was really good and quite warm on almost the whole cruise, I think it only rained on one day. Overall, we had a fantastic time on the Silhouette, with the best of service, food and entertainment. Read Less

We were lucky enough to be picked to dine with the chief engineer which was a lovely and interesting experience. The pools were lovely and the gym facilities were excellent. All public areas were very clean. The eggs benedict served at breakfast were fantastic. The catering was all to a very high standard and the choice was plentiful . Like Celebrity with some reservations. The ship was clean and comfortable, the food in both main restaurant and self service was generally very good although sweets are not their strong point. Too many cake based. Entertainment was not great with exception of Jayne Curry. She not only has a great voice but always makes me laugh. Doing 3 shows in 4 days was amazing. Shore excursions were quite limited partly because of small towns but generally were not good value for money. In particular a 2 hour trip on the Flam railway with only 2 x5 min stops costing over £100 each was very disappointing. Service is very good although bar staff are variable. Celebrity must surely give thought to an all inclusive cruise. The drinks package is fairly expensive but is required as even bottled water is charged. In this day and age, WiFi is surely a necessity. Less emphasis should be placed on selling speciality restaurants. Finally we told Celebrity that we were celebrating our Golden Wedding Anniversary. After 4 days we had a card and fridge magnet delivered to our cabin. Read Less

This was our first cruise and we chose it mainly for it's destinations and the good reviews, we were not disappointed. Firstly, the ship itself is lovely, very clean, well laid out, easily accessible and lots of different activities going on. Always attendants around with hand washing gel. Embarkation was very smooth, we were onboard within half an hour of arriving at the terminal. Disembarkation was also very well organised. The cabin was kept clean and tidy every day and we got a chocolate on our pillows after the turn down service each evening. The cabin was spacious, the bed was comfortable and we had a good sized balcony with decent chairs. The bathroom was a good size, larger than I expected with lots of storage. The food in the main dining room was delicious, we didn't eat there for the first few days but now wish we had. Joel and Pedro, our waiters were lovely very helpful and friendly. The Oceanview cafe always had plenty of choice and the food was good. Although sometimes waiting for a drinks waiter took longer than it should. We didn't eat at any of the speciality restuarants, didn't feel there was a need to as the mdr was so good. We also did not feel under any pressure to make a booking there as some others have said on previous reviews they were very pressured, I expected to run the gauntlet from these pushy people but it wasn't the case at all. The entertainment in the theatre was fabulous, we went most nights and enjoyed everything we saw. The singers were all amazing and the resident band led by Big Mike were excellent. Jayne Curry was outstanding. Throughout the ship, each evening were also muscians in various bars, these were also excellent. We really enjoyed the Frank Sinatra and The Beatles evenings in the small theatre. Silent discos were so funny, great entertainment, we had to join in and loved every minute. We booked all our excursions through celebrity and these were really well organised. We enjoyed all our trips, especially St. Petersburg (even though it rained on our first day). Each time we returned to the ship we were greeted with refreshing cold drinks and face cloths, even hot chocolate in russia. Only used the pool area once but each time we walked past there seemed to be beds available. Skylounge is a lovely relaxing place during the day with very comfortable lounges and chairs and amazing views. This was very busy each evening. Every member of staff we came across was so friendly the cleaning staff do a fantastic job, the captain and other officers were always visible around the ship and were approachable at all times. Overall this was a brilliant first cruise and hopefully not the last. Would I recommend Celebrity? Yes. Would I cruise with them again? Yes. Read Less

We chose this cruise essentially because of St. Petersburg, together with a convenient time slot. I have read countless reviews of this cruise, and all I can say is that I'm really glad I didn't have to sit with some of these people at dinner. Moan, moan, moan. It's a ship, it's nothing short of as miracle, it works at all, having to cater for just under 3,000 different personalities and tastes. We are regular cruisers, but this was our first with Celebrity. I can honestly say we couldn't find a single fault: the attention to customer's requirements was astonishing, service was friendly, the food was exemplary, our cabin steward (Dixon) was beyond the best we've ever had, and as for St. Petersburg (although we toured privately), it is an experience we will never ever forget. If you choose to cruise on a ship with that many passengers, of course there'll be times you have to wait for a coffee table, or similar. What do you expect? Individual service? In that case, why bother sharing, just hire a ship for yourselves. In summation, if we ever have a better cruise than this, I'm in the queue already. Read Less

Staff are excellent, all were cheerful, polite & helpful. Food was of a high standard & I'd say there is no need to pay extra for speciality dining imo. Breakfast is very busy at the buffet so go early to avoid seating issues. Entertainment was excellent with some well known acts such as Bobby Davro My only slight moan is at onboard drinks prices are way too high. $8 for a bottle of Bud is ridiculous. Look for a special offer that includes a drinks package. The Baltic destinations were interesting & well worth a visit. I'd advise using TripAdvisor to find the best places to visit & the most economical way to do it. Onboard excursions are good but expensive so there are often cheaper alternatives arrange locally. What can I say about it? Amazing Ship, Top Crew, Lavish Dining and First Rate Entertainment. Made new friends and spoken to plenty of people from all over the world. Eaten myself silly and drunk myself dizzy and only spent $10.60 on ship. (on top of the $300 on ship spend), we have made new friends and Book face twitterers We have Seen great cities and cultures which will live in our memories. We ate mainly in the MDR with Zoran our waiter being superb and we got our two starters and two deserts every night, sometimes we got two mains.Joyce the wine waiter was terrific in filling the glass constantly, must have drunk two bottles of wine nightly. Few downsides, annoying kids in pool and the usual pushers in at the Buffet at breakfast and lunch and tea. People sat at bar (my pet hate) so you couldn`t get in. Although waiter service was used there are times "a man must do what a man must do" and get himself a drink. I was on the free package so a few spilt drinks on people who wouldn`t move made me smile. Relaxed dress code is appealing, why should I have to put a penguin suit on to have dinner, im on holiday. and the guy with the white dinner jacket, sorry if I kept calling you over because I thought you were a waiter. Thanks to everyone who made this trip special. Look forward to another great experience soon Now to sort through over 2000 digital photos Read Less

Guest relations/Customer Service was excellent. Excursions/trips were a bit pricey but they did not disappoint. Plenty to choose from however and pleased that Hop on Hop off buses all waited at the port(s) so venturing out on your own was very easy too. Food/Dining was excellent. Please to find that teas/coffees/squash were all included in the price as they can all add up over 2 weeks. The entertainment was great.... did not expect so many British well known artists to appear so it was a real treat to see people like Bobby Davro. The singers/band around the ship was also nice along with the 2 cinema films we saw. My holiday also got me hooked on silent discos... they were hilarious!. Just back off a 14 night cruise in the Baltic on Silhouette with our 15-yr-old son. It was our first time with Celebrity, after having been with P&O (Ventura) and RCI (Navigator OTS), and we were largely impressed – the negatives being so minor we intend to do a similar cruise again next year on the same ship. Getting the negatives out of the way to start with – We were on deck 6 and found that occasionally the noise from the entertainment was intrusive, but it never went on too late so it never became a big problem. The allocation of the dining table in the MDR was a bit chaotic for the first night but we were allocated a permanent table for the rest of the cruise by the second night. The shops on the ship tend to be for the high-end market – so lots of jewellery and watch shops but not much in terms of fragrances and day-to-day purchases (toiletries etc). The excursions are pretty expensive, as were the speciality dining (which we never tried but nor were we tempted to, despite the frequent promoting) The storage in the cabin was barely enough for the three of us (storage in the bathroom was ample, however). Seating in the bar areas could have been more generous – finding a table, especially when live music was on or due, could be tricky (we found this worse on the RCI ship though). Now the positives - The quality of the food in the MDR ranged from good (on occasion) to excellent (frequently). The staff there were extremely friendly and efficient and very attentive – the best I have seen on a cruise. The check-in was done in record time – we didn't queue for longer than about 2 minutes – and getting on board was swift – as was disembarkation. The overall price we paid for the cruise was on a par with the previous companies, but we got free drinks packages for each of us thrown in (which were ideal for us), plus $150 onboard spend and 40 minutes of internet time (an offer they seem to be improving on for next year). The buffet (Ocean View Cafe) had a good range of food for breakfast and lunch, with plenty of soft drink options. Celebrity, in our minds, deserve the reputation they have. Ports Zeebrugge – this was on our first full day, and we were too tired to go to Bruges, so we wandered around the port. There was not a lot to see but you could take the tram to the seaside resort up the coast. Copenhagen – really liked this city – not too busy, loads of people on bicycles, stupidly expensive though. The ship docks about 10 minutes away from the Little Mermaid, but the ($20) shuttle takes you into the centre of town, which is a bit of a walk away. Stockholm – nice city but busier than Copenhagen. Good art galleries though. Again, very expensive. Tallinn – highlight of the tour. Lovely old town, lots of beautiful buildings, and we found (in Olde Hansa off the main square) a great, albeit quirky, place to eat. St Petersburg – glad we saw it. Went on one of the arranged tours, and saw the Summer palace in Pushkin, plus the city highlights. Very busy indeed. The palace involved a lot of standing around and shuffling through rooms along with several hundred other tourists from our and other cruise ships. Warnemunde (for Berlin). Did not go to Berlin as we did not fancy the long travel to and from the city. Warnemunde itself was a nice seaside town though. Read Less

This was a fantastic itinerary and all of the ports were lovely. Silhouette is a great ship with a variety of spaces to suit every taste and mood. Our favourite spots were the Martini Bar, the comfy sofa beds in the shade on the pool deck and Cafe al Bacio on deck 5. Embarkation and Disembarkation were very smooth. We were on board within half an hour of parking the car right by the terminal and allowed in our cabin by 1pm. Food in the main dining room is varied and excellent quality. They catered well for my wife's gluten allergy with the menu clearly labelled and if ordered the previous day they would make any other dish gluten free. The ocean view cafe was laid out well, with a huge variety. Again, they catered well for gluten free, with a whole section marked gluten free. (On a previous P&O cruise this wasn't the case in the buffet, so we avoided the buffet due to risk of cross contamination). There were also lovely gluten free cakes in Cafe al Bacio. My wife and I dined at Murano for an anniversary meal and while the food was good (apart from desert - strangely inedible!) we felt it was no better than the quality in the main dining room, so therefore not worth the extra charge. However, we dined at Qsine twice as a family and had the most amazing food. In this case, well worth the cover charge! We all agreed they were the best dinners we had ever had! Apparently Celebrity are changing this restaurant which seems a huge shame. The entertainment was quite varied and we particularly enjoyed the guest musicians during the evening shows. There was a very interesting free galley tour on the first sea day which we went to and several interesting talks about ship life and the destinations on other sea days. The ship's own bands were excellent and they were great to listen to around the various public spaces. Our kids spent a couple of evenings in the kids club, which they said they enjoyed. Our only negative point was the cost of the shore excursions booked through Celebrity. We went on a Chocolate and walking tour in Bruges and paid nearly £200 for a family of 4. The walking tour was poor and the chocolate museum was somewhat limited. We'd have been better off getting the shuttle bus and doing our own thing. Tours in St. Petersburg with Celebrity were much better, with excellent guides, but again were expensive. We docked some distance from the city centre in Stockholm and therefore took the shuttle bus. This was reasonably priced ($80 for 2 days for family of 4), but the only disappointment was that the last bus back was at 6pm on the day that we stayed overnight, meaning if you wanted to stay later you'd have to get a taxi. One thing to consider is that there are no laundrettes on board and the charges are very steep (e.g $3 for underwear, $7 for a shirt) For a 14 day cruise this could add up. With about 4 days to go they did offer a deal. Pack as much as you can in a paper laundry bag and it will all be washed for $49. By rolling things very tightly we got $150 worth in - so we thought we'd won! When we booked we were offered an inclusive classic drinks package. This worked well as drinks on board are relatively expensive and if the package is purchased seperately it would add significantly to the cost. The classic package offers a good range of quality beers/wines/spirits. On the odd occasion that we fancied something a bit more special (a martini cocktail for example) you only pay the difference. This was our 2nd cruise, having previously been to Norway with P&O Britannia. We loved that cruise, but this was even better. One thing that really stood out was the friendliness of all the staff, from senior officers all the way through to the cabin attendants and waiters. I would definitely recommend this itinerary, ship and especially Celebrity. Read Less

Special mention must go to Francisco (now on his way to Edge), Valanki, Milan and Veronique were brilliant.
