Wanted a relaxing, warm weather cruise, so chose the Caribbean as we had been before about 10 years ago. Azura was our 2nd P&O ship, Britannia was our first, and there was no comparison. Azura was infinitely better, and we were not disappointed. Were upgraded to Superior deluxe Balcony Suite, which was the biggest cabin we have ever had in our 14 years of cruising. Food in the Meridian Freedom dining restaurant was very good, the lido was ok for breakfast and lunches and snacks, a pity we only tried our main dining room for breakfast on the last day as the breakfast there was excellent and everything was freshly served. We had pre booked Sindhu Indian Restaurant before we sailed and enjoyed our meal there. We also dined in the Epicurean for a special evening meal, which took a long time between courses and was a bit pricey. Our favourite, however, was The Beach House where the food consisted of sizzling steaks served on slate platters, great giant prawn skewers and the biggest strawberry, banana, cream and flambeed brandy deserts. We loved it so much we ate there twice! The evening entertainment, was very good every night, (unusually as on other ships we have been frequently disappointed with some of the acts). The resident band was excellent, the dancers were very good and again unusually the resident singers on the main stage all had great voices and sang in tune. We had no complaints about any of the acts!! Service was good in all areas, all in all no complaints about the ship at all! Weather was great, islands were interesting and we had a great cruise! Arrived at Southampton by taxi and unloaded are cases and for the first time in eleven cruises we were ignored by the porters and we eventually gave up and took the cases to the conveyor ourselves. Check in was busy but we were onboard within about thirty minutes. Our cabin on C deck was ready and Rubi our efficient and friendly cabin steward introduced herself. After the safety muster we unpacked with no problems for storage space and went to our evening meal, (freedom dining). Over the cruise we often shared but did have a table for two with no problems as well. We only used the MDR and found the food to be of a good variety and standard. The waiters have however declined often putting the wrong meal in front of people. The buffet was poor and much smaller in size than we remembered. The much used Italian Verona is no more and has been replaced by 'The Beach House' at an extra cost and they were continually trying to sell this venue throughout the cruise even when we eating in the main MDR. The entertainment team were good especially JoB and Alessandro with the usual Quizes, Games and Dancing etc. on offer. The Headliners were Ok although one show left us bemused. The main acts were excellent with Mike Doyle, IDA and Electric dreams standing out. There were two speakers, the first on Planets we had heard before and the second Terry Brown an ex policeman who talked about the history and changes to interviewing techniques. This was followed by a 'who done it' with twelve passengers as suspects and nineteen teams of detectives to solve the murder. All very well done and so much fun!. There is a variety of bars some quiet such as Planet bar and Glass house and others more lively , Malabar / Brodies. We did not use the casino this time but did manage to make a small profit on the horseracing. The table tennis has been reduced to one table and this caused over subscription with only doubles competitions which I found disappointing. The four black tie nights were well supported but of course there were a few who declined to enter into spirit and dress up. This being our first trip to the Caribbean we stuck to ship tours. Disembarkation was different as we booked a day cabin which gave us the chance to sample an inside cabin but also to have a base for the day until airport departure which went smoothly apart from the taxi being stopped by police for a traffic offence (let off). The flight to Bournemouth on a Thompson Dreamliner was delayed an hour after we boarded due to a mix up between ground staff over a missing passenger. Our per-arranged taxi was waiting for us and we were home in ten minutes. We enjoyed our cruise but not being sun worshippers found the Caribbean to be to hot and humid for us, proving that we are all different. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we have cruised with P and O A Couple of times before and found them to be great value for money and very well organised. The food on board Azura was in our opinion very good, plenty of choice and of decent quality. Some people moan about the quality but we found it to be what you would get in a good quality restaraunt or pub. The entertainment was first class with the headliners who do several shows absolutely brilliant and some good tribute acts and good comedians especially Mike Doyle. Excursions are quiet dear with P and O but you can book your own which we did on 4 occasions. Viator and very good and we booked a couple of independent ones as well. The two we did with P and O was the Azores witch was ok but we got very wet weather which spoilt it a bit, not P and Os fault though. The second was a trip by land and sea around St Lucia which was quiet expensive but would highly recommend it. The Tour did everything, the famous Pitons, Lovely litttle fishing villages, An active volcanoe, a tropical gardens and finally a boat ride back to the ship. 8 hours of pure joy. Getting on and off the ship was straight forward with hardly any wait at all including your first step and last step on the ship. Please don't be put off by any bad reviews you read unless you want 5 star Luxuary, then you need to spend a couple of thousand pounds more. If like us you want good food, grate entertainment and good service you cant go wrong with P and 0 Read Less

We liked the ports of call Lisbon, Cadiz. Barcelona, Ibitha and Gibralter as some we had never been to before. Embarkation was fast and well organised, the ship was beautiful, very clean and staff very helpful. been on lots of other cruises waiting staff good but never smiled, they were from india and pakistan area. Food good with plenty of choice, never had to queue at any meals. Shore excursions we thought were expensive, worst of all we had to pay for transfers from ship to towns and these were £4pp each way which we thought was a rip off!. Our room was always cold the air conditioning didn't seen to alter. Also the playhouse and the evening entertainment venues were also very cold. Entertainment was excellent except the group Pulse often sang off key and screeched a lot. Sorry the area for dancing was not bigger as this was done in the atrium and always too many people to dance in the small area. Overall we had a fantastic time and would certainly choose this ship again. Read Less

We chose this cruise as it looked like it would be relaxing with a some interesting ports and it did't disappoint, embarkation at Southampton was well organised and stress free, enjoyed the sea days relaxing and although the ship was full we could always find a lounger, the ship is well laid out and easy to navigate and is well maintained with modern decor & furniture. We really enjoyed the evening entertainment with a great mix of artists and shows, particularly liked the comedian Micky Zany and the Annie Lennox tribute, the headliner shows were high quality and enjoyable. The food in the MDR was excellent, we didn't have one meal we didn't enjoy, the new vegetarian menu is great, so nice to have so much choice every night. The service was very good freindly and efficient, couldn't fault it in fact the service all over the ship was spot on. The food in the buffet was also good, especially liked having breakfast out on deck. We had an inside cabin on deck 8 which was kept spottlesly clean by our hard working steward, it was big enough and had everthing we needed with a very comfortable bed. Didn't do any excursions so can't comment. We have already booked another two cruises with P&O as we always feel well looked after and think they offer excellent value for money Funchal Madeira- lovley port, easy to do yourself, highlight was the cable car to Monte then back down in a wicker basket Santa Cruz de La Palma- small pretty port with historic centre and black sandy beach Santa Cruz de Tenerife- another easy to do port, good for shopping and we had tasty & cheap tapas in the old town, highlight was the Botanical Palm garden a bit of a walk from the ship Las Palmas de Gran Canaria- spent some time on the excellent beach a short walk through town, great for swimming Arrecife Lanarote- scruffy, run down with lots of graffiti, there is a beach within walking distance of the ship Lisbon- lovely city with beautiful architecture, used the hop on & off bus red line which was worth doing Vigo- pleasnt city to walk round, highlight was Samil beach a taxi ride away Read Less

We are just back from one of the best cruises we have had on the beautiful Azura. Fantastic from the moment we pulled up in the car portside and had our bags efficiently whisked away to and the smiling check in ladies and gents. Our cabin was available immediately and our bags were there before we were, and it only took us 20 minutes to board! Our cabin was immaculate, and bright and well furnished, Irene our steward was there to greet us and inform us of where our muster station would be for the safety drill later and also to take those all important orders for drinks or ice etc. Champagne on the balcony and the excitement of a 7 day adventure awaited. Book. Don’t worry. Azura is fantastic, the staff are as nice as you are to them... First trip to Norway, itinerary was excellent, as were the trips we went on. But there is much to do under your own steam too. We have returned home relaxed and happy, totally pampered and with wonderful memories. Thank you P&O, the Staff and Crew of Azura We WILL book with P&O again, in fact, cant wait! Read Less

We chose this cruise for the 3 different ports on offer - we had never been to Hamburg or Le Havre and whilst we have been to Amsterdam, we had never visited via a cruise ship or stayed overnight in port. The weather was gorgeous and an added bonus in Hamburg when the temperature reached 30c. Unfortunately on the 2nd day in Amsterdam we experienced a thunderstorm and heavy rain but it didn’t stop us enjoying ourselves as we went on a P&O coach tour. We love Azura as we were on her 4years ago when we did a 2 week Russian cruise and she did not disappoint this time. Everyone was friendly and the food phenomenal- we had the Eric Lanlard tea which was amazing and also ate in the Epicurean restaurant and the Sindu restaurant too. A small cover charge was applicable in these 3 restaurants but well worth it. Our balcony cabin was C325 and whilst a little small, it was adequate for the week. Next time though, we have booked a deluxe balcony cabin for the extra room. Read Less

Travelled as a family to Norway for the first time. Also first time on Azura. We arrived earlier than our embarkation time and did not have to wait long in departures to get on the ship. We chose a balcony cabin on deck C because of the larger balcony and it was brilliant. We found the cabin big enough for a week with a teenager in tow, lots of storage. Our cabin steward was lovely and very efficient - I think she has been named on here in a previous review in a bad way but we did not find this at all, she was lovely. We (adults) did have a problem navigating around the ship I think because we were midship - do we go left or right became a joke, and we had to rely on the teenager to get anywhere. Saying that there are lots of ships maps everywhere and it wasn't really a problem. Other passengers were a mixture of families like ours wishing to explore rather than just sunbathe like you get in the med, and older passengers, many with multi generational family groups. We felt it was a great mix. There were lots of activities, but we only attended quizzes and the Astonishing show as on sea days we chose to sunbathe on the balcony and we played our own card games in the evening. We liked the Blue Bar, and the Planet Bar. We were freedom dining which worked well and we never had to wait. Sometimes we shared, most of the time we sat on our own. We found the food in the main dining room great. If we had to moan I would have liked some kind of salad/pasta option as a main every day in case you don't like meat/fish, but we didn't go hungry! We only used the buffet twice, this was not because of the quality of food but the arrangement of the buffet on Azura. It is too small, and you feel you can't look around before you choose. So we mainly ate breakfast lunch (when on the ship) and dinner in the dining room. We used room service a couple of times which was efficient and good value. We had booked some ship excursions in the smaller ports and felt they were good value, but in the towns we chose to do our own thing (museums etc). Loved every port for different reasons but my favourite thing to do was to open the curtains about 6am and see the view. One thing I could not get over is the silence when you are in the fjords, even if you're on a huge ship. Saying that we didn't feel the ship overcrowded at all and my son who doesn't like crowds felt very comfortable all the time. The sea screen was a bit broken up on the screen but it wasn't as bad as I was expecting reading other reviews. Staff were all very happy and if you are courteous nice people I'm sure you'll get the same treatment. Read Less

I chose this cruise specifically for the destinations. I only found out after booking this cruise that it was a Strictly come dancing cruise. What a bonus! 11 of us travelled down in 3 cars. Upon arrival our luggage was taken from us by efficient and friendly attendants who then drove away and parked the cars for the duration of the 2 weeks holiday. Easy and stress free and well worth the fee. All of our party was allowed to embark 2 hours early, despite having different times allocated to us.. This was very pleasing. Upon entering the ship we were very impressed with the Atrium which was attractive. Our cabins were ready and we were allowed to go to them immediately and luggage arrived just a few minutes later. Brilliant! We had 4 balcony cabins on A deck and a family balcony cabin on B deck. All were nicely furnished and no issues with wear and tear. The balcony was larger than Brittania. I don’t care if the TV was smaller than Brittania as I am not there to watch TV. I also wasn’t overly bothered about a shower curtain. The important things are that the bathroom was clean and towels changed twice daily.Sandip did a fantastic job of looking after the cabin and is a thoroughly nice and hard working guy. The ship has a lovely decor, nice art work throughout and a great flow. It is not showing any signs of wear and tear that were obvious and is clearly well looked after. Contrary to reviews the rear of the ship is very peaceful and the place to head to if you do not like noise. Certainly I have always avoided children’s pools and busy deck bar areas but I am not a party pooper. If you enjoy sail away parties, entertainment on deck etc then this ship is great. If you want quiet, peace and pleasant surroundings than this ship is great at the front or rear. I used the gym and spa both of which were good. The main dining room was very nicely decorated with a good menu, great food and excellent service. The food in the buffet despite the reviews was excellent. This ship caters for 3100 passengers from early in the morning until the early hours of the following day. You will not be disappointed with the quality or selection of food not even if you think you are Gordon Ramsay. We loved the Strictly come Dancing theme and the highlight was the very approachable and lovey Lisa Riley who had time for everyone. Also the fabulous Strictly dancers and the wonderful Craig Revel Hallwood. The ports of call were all good, the P&O trips enjoyable. Yes I know people say they are expensive but if you haven’t been somewhere before you want to be in good hands. In summary a lovely ship, excellent food, great service and something for everyone. I would score the ship ten out of ten but can only score it 9. I am not an anti smoker but was surprised how much space is occupied by smokers. Read Less

We have cruised twice before with Princess and Royal Caribbean and decided to give P&O a chance. We had heard that P&O were more formal than many other cruise lines but found that this was not the case. Apologies if this review isn't 'professional' as this is the first review I have written for anything. The motivation for this really stems from reading some negative reviews this year on P&O Azura. I'm guessing that many people who have not cruised before read these reviews and are put off by the whinging that goes on. Hence the title of this review. The food both in the formal dining restaurants and the buffet was excellent wit a wide choice that really should suit any taste . We never had to queue and ate at our chosen table every night. Fast food on deck was also of the highest quality. The entertainment was excellent with a wide choice on offer every single night. The ships crew were brilliant :polite and happy to accommodate all your needs. I honestly don't know what some people expect on a cruise and after reading some negative reviews can't help wondering if these people just enjoy moaning ! A final note to al those thinking about there first cruise: If you can afford it go ahead and book now you won't be disappointed !! Read Less
