My 5-day cruise experience to costa maya and cozumel was a disaster from beginning to end! The ship arrived late to the galveston port and the embarkation was delayed. It was very hot, humid, and chaotic! Some people fainted while standing and waiting for their boarding times to be called. We did not want to check our luggage but was relieved that we did because when we finally boarded the ship none of the elevators were working! We had to walk flights of stairs from deck 0 to deck 10 after standing for an extended period of time while dehydrated and hungry. We almost missed them lunch, which was cold and nasty. My roommate's luggage didn't arrive for hours because someone snatched her luggage tag off of her suitcase! The so-called activities on the ship were lame so we were bored at sea. Costa maya shouldn't be a destination! The walking distance there was too long, especially in 100 degree weather and when we got there, there nothing to do and you couldn't even look at what they were selling because the sellers bombard you! There was no beach in sight! The only thing i enjoyed during the cruise was the excursion in cozumel that i paid extra for. I just wished we had more time to shop during the excursion. Cozumel was okay...no access to a beach...didn't feel safe taking a cab to a beach since i found out someone was twice (one being a taxi driver). The breakfast was always served cold and the main dining food could have been better and served hot! Both the guy's burger joint and bbq were better than any other food served on the ship because it was served hot and flavorful! Then they snatch $70 from everyone for gratuity! For what?! The ship shouldn't have been operating. It needs to be painted again...lots of rust and not picture worthy! I didn't see anyone take a picture in front of it. It also needs a lot of work internally, including updating the staterooms! The entire time of the cruise the elevators were barely working and if they were working they took forever! I kept seeing maintenance everywhere! I kept smelling painting and paint thinner in/outside of my stateroom which made me feel nauseous! I worried about my safety. Speaking of safety the safety meeting was poorly presented. No one learned anything! They just mumbled and rushed through their demonstration. The disembarkation was another disaster! There was definitely a lack of communication on the staff's part! Everyone was everywhere, the elevators weren't working of course, and we were told to go to deck 3. We sat in a room for 2 hours while the staff disappeared. We left on our own and struggled with our luggage down the stairs with hundreds of people to deck 0. Mind you our stateroom was on deck 1 which didn't make any sense! We could've have left from our stateroom! I'm never cruising with carnival cruises again!!!!! Read Less

We have cruised over 10 times - Alaska, Caribbean, Mexico and Europe - on several cruise lines with our preference being Royal Caribbean and Celebrity. We’ve sailed with Carnival two times in the past and they were passable but not great. We sailed carnival dream out of New Orleans on March 17 and it was the worst cruise experience we’ve ever had. If this had been our first cruise, it would be our last. Luckily, we know this cruise experience wasn’t typical of other cruise lines. We had the poorest service we’ve ever seen on a cruise. The food was fine and our service staff was nice, but service was disorganized - sometimes not bringing our complete order. It seems like the service staff had too many tables to give the service we’ve always had on prior cruises. The majority of the ship’s staff was downright rude - especially the shore excursion desk. Their anyswer to any question was “I don’t know.” Dinner was disorganized, and no lunch served in the main dining room, which meant everyone was on the Lido during lunchtime making it a complete zoo. The shows, games etc were held in rooms so small that unless you arrived an hour early you couldn’t get a seat. The ship needs a lot of care. Rust and chipped paint everywhere you looked. Needless to say, I would NEVER recommend Carnival to anyone and will never use this cruiseline again. Read Less

Our Nightmare Started with prepaid parking (from their site's link) in NOLA, paid 2 month's in advance. Got to NOLA, 3.10.19 - major traffic issue, got to parking lot @ 901 Convention Center Blvd only to be met by NOLA PO told us, NO can NOT PARK, IF we prepaid - lot was closed. 4.5 HOURS later, less than 1.5 miles away & following others in same Boat, then having to pay for parking @ $140 AGAIN, were we able to finally board. Anxiety-Panic Attack, and seemed to never end, unless we got off ship. Drunks in pools with minor kids, 2nd day, drunk drew up in LIDO DECK pool with kids in it, had to drain pool. Oh Well, stay far away from that insanity, that Carnival Promotes Whole Heartedly! While I was able to find the BEST spot for Adults - 15th Deck up on Serenity Lounge Deck- total cruise enjoyment, but warning must walk through Cloud 9 SPA on 12th to get there. Sell, Sell,SELL, SELL, If interested, Great, other than that just keep walking & No thanks. First Cruise, we made multiple calls in advance to ask lots of questions and was mislead every step of the way. Purchased insurance in case needed to be seen by Dr or had to cancel. Very sick, upper respitory from sinus & so many chemicals used in elevators to keep us all smelling great, BUT still had to pay up front to see Dr. They were very nice, but still was very sick. No clue what the pills were, but didn't help had to seek ER after returning home. Now have to argue with the folks that we purchased this Gimmick Inusrance Policy with AFTER the fact & who knows if they will reimburse me? Will NEVER SET FOOT ON ANOTHER CRUISE SHIP during Spring Break, unless I want to be around so many unattended minors & drunks. It made for a bad 1st cruise experience on top of being physically sick. A++ to ALL employees who work on the ship, I can not safe enough positive things about them. They salvaged our entire trip with their Professional Kindness & knowledge of true Customer Service (we are not demanding guests), but we truly appreciated the Room Service as I was too sick on a few days to get out of our Cabin on 8th floor. Great news as well, always pay extra and get a balcony, worth every penny we spent! In front of ship, far away from the Crazy drunks & unattended minors. Plz ask lots of ?s about how many minors, don't be dumb like we were & not understand when peak season is for Spring Break Crazy, with or without families. Too many parents were drinking and when I asked one couple up on Serenity Deck where were their 6 minor kids, answer was, we don't know & kept on drinking. A cruise ship is not your babysitters folks. Try to be responsible and teach your children manners. I saw the Best & the Worst on board, from the begining it was very sad to know how much money we had spent for the Nightmare to start before we even boarded. They only offered me a cheap bottle of wine to attempt to make us feel better for 4.5 hours of HELL out on the street. Trust me, when we got off this ship Sunday at 7am, no one was allowed to push or break in line. We were greeted by the best parking vendors in NOLA with smiles, put on shuttles & taken immediately to our car, where we gladly left. Any wonder we aren't so well loved over the globe. The employees on the ships deserve 100% Respect and are not there to treated less than any guest! I loved the shows, shore excursions and will never pre-pay to park again. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we have taken several cruises (everyone with Carnival but one) and this was a different itinerary than we had ever taken. 1. The ship was pretty boring and was like staying at a 2 star hotel with nothing to really do and nowhere to go. 2. There was 6 of us in 2 balcony rooms located on floor 11/Verandah. We can't complain about the young man that tended to our rooms. 3.Buffet food was as good and sometimes better than the dinning room food even when we paid the extra $20 per person one night for a few of us. Sometimes you only got an appetizer OR salad, a plate of meat with no choice of a side but it did come with one finger length potato cut in half the size of a thin (I am 5'2 and at my largest of 155lbs except when I was pregnant) persons pinky, and some nights they weren't even serving dessert. When I leave hungry and normally only eat once a day THERE is a problem. I am not a picky gal when it comes to food. 4. If you are 41 years old and go to bed EVERY single night right after your 6:30 early dinner something is wrong. 5. If you are 41 years old and the best activity on board for you were the slides and drinking there is something wrong. 6. When the oldest person in your group is 42 and the youngest person is 15 and all of you sleep 10-15 hours daily that says this is so horrible that I should just rest up for the drive back home to face every day life. Man every day life is more fun than this vacation was. WHO EVER SAYS THAT? WE DID AND STILL DO. 7. Service was fine and I do feel like many employees were new but that is expected and didn't bother us one bit. 8. I knew that one port had a beach you didn't have to travel to but had to buy food/drinks which was fine. We can't complain about that port. 9. I spoke with employees etc. and decided not to book excursions because I was told the ports had accessible beaches within walking distance and that at one of the ports Carnival would serve lunch/drinks just the same as if you were on the ship. This is also how it use to be but not now. 10. The thermostat didn't work in our room but I refused to complain just like always. 11. The gym doesn't accommodate very many people considering how many people are on the ship. 12. Because it was so boring everyone just wanted to grab a lounge chair and there was never enough. ***** We have been loyal customers for years and have been on several cruises with Carnival with this being the FIRST time we have complained***** I can't help but to be mad over paying $10,000-$12,000 for a vacation that I could have paid half the price for and had good food and more fun. NOTE: I didn't question this because this was a normal thing in our past cruises with Carnival. THIS WAS NOT TRUE so needless to say after all the crap WE NEVER SAW A SINGLE BEACH IN BELIZE OR COZUMEL... Now we had been on a Carnival cruise to Cozumel and the beach was in walking distance and was right off the ship. I think they changed sides to dock on probably just to make more money.. $30 plus a person? Cabs don't cost that much. *****I suggest staying away unless you want to stay in the cheapest cabin, your goal is to only eat buffet food, drink, and sleep.***** Read Less

The only nice thing about our cruis was our housekeeper Fandy he was great. We booked this back in April or May for our honeymoon. We ended up getting two twin beds.... there was a constant loud buzz/hissing sound outside our room we could here 24/7. The spa double charged us. Each night for our dinners the service was horrible. They never brought my wife’s wine one night, we had a hard time getting our water glasses re-filled, and the food was either wrong when they brought it, and each night we ended up having to go get pizza or something to eat. This was just a few of our problems we encountered on our honeymoon trip on the dream. We are both positive happy people so we roughed it through, but I would NOT recommend this boat due to poor service and problems. Twin beds on a honeymoon :( Read Less

After a 3 hour delay the boarding process was horrible we were hurded like cattle with little to no direction. 5 min after boarding the ship you are mustered on lockdown in a dinning hall then it’s a free for all to get to the elevators or move 12 decks back to your room. When I say the ship was overcrowded you could not move about with out being up in someone’s business. It took almost an hour to get settled in not fun at all. The schedule your dinner meal in an overcrowded restaurant and expect you to eat at odd late times. This is designed to force you to buy food. The whole time they are pushing you to buy crap it’s loke a 7 day locked down time share convention with boose total waste of money. This is not what I expected from a trusted cruse line like carnival needs to say I will never cruse with carnival again. Read Less

This was my 5th cruise. My 3rd with Carnival and it was absolutely horrible. It has been 4 years since my last cruise and this experience has left me with never wanting to take my vacation on a cruise. Embarkation has significantly improved and moved very quick. We boarded the ship about 12:20 and were not able to get to our rooms until 1:30, which meant we had to pack the luggage we did not give the porters. My overall experience would be a 1 or a zero. The food was absolutely horrible. It was like getting days old Golden Coral Food or worse. I had to buy bottled water, as the water on the ship had a nasty after taste. The tea was gross and the lemonade too sweet. The decent restaurants were only opened from 12:00 to 2:30. Guys Burgers was open from 12:00 to 6:00. After eating burgers a few times it does get old. If you like the disgusting pizza it was open 24 hours. If you are hungry after 10:00 p.m. be prepared to pay for food. We did eat at the Chef's table which is extra. If you want burned crab cake that was not only burned but frozen burned this is the place to go. I have eaten at many fine steak houses, and again this was a disappointment to me. On-board activities are expensive and a money pit. My husband and I booked to have a massage which was amazing except the ladies pressure you to buy all these products, and try to tell me it would help my bags under my eyes, nose, etc. when I know I need to have a sinus surgery to alleviate allergy issues. It was like I had to tell them "what do you not understand about the word NO". Entertainment was great the first two nights, but it is basically the same throughout the entire cruise. It gets boring after watching basically the same thing. The comedy entertainment was degrading to women. I can not believe Carnival Dream has a woman comedian that can joke about women in such a degrading, pornographic manner. Half the people left during her skit. The comedy shows are only 30 minutes and you have to get their so early in order to have a seat. Nevertheless, after we attended that comedy show, my husband and I did not go back. Again, it was outright disgusting. The cleanliness of the ship was not there. Room service has been cut to once a day. We had to rip off the sheets from the bed after the 3rd night in order to get clean sheets. I know some of you might not wash your sheets, but I am the kind of person that washes mine frequently. It is especially necessary after you spend all cabin time laying around on bed. Our entire floor smelled like DODO... POO POO no lie, straight up sewer, and then walk into a balcony cabin that is no less than 78 degrees. I don't know about you, but I keep my temperature at 72, needless to say I could not sleep because it was so stinking hot. There were blue soap debris left all over the shower from previous passenger and our bed had a definite swag in the center. Food plates were never removed, if you want them out of your cabin you have to set the dishes outside the door. The ship design is not vacation friendly. The elevators do not take you to necessary areas. You have to walk all over the place to get to the place you want. There were so many people that average wait time for elevator was 7 to 10 min. Who wants to spend all their time waiting for an elevator. Montego Bay was fun. The Dolphin excursion was amazing, but we spent over an hour waiting for the excursion when we got to ship terminal. It was well worth it, but again when on vacation who wants to spend their time in a long hot line. When we got to the beach, we were harassed not less than 10 times if we wanted to buy mojo. In Georgetown we took the submarine excursion. It was over priced for the fact that you basically just go in circles around the same reef. The costs for that should be no more than $50 but of course that is not the case. In Cozumel we took the excursion to the Mayan Ruins. Absolutely loved the ruins but we were only given an hour and a half once the tour was complete. (Tour consisted of waiting for everyone to go to the bathroom, walking one mile to the ruins, and a 15 min. quick breakdown of the ruins) There is a 45 min ferry ride and another 45 min. bus ride one way. The majority of the time is spent traveling so we did not get to enjoy and explore for being rushed. Like I stated this was my 5th cruise and likely my last! I definitely will never cruise Carnival and this was my third with them. Pity to have spent my hard earned vacation money on this trip. Read Less

Our Cabin had to be cleaned before we unpacked (clumps of hair on shower walls, stained carpet, pink splatters on walls and ceiling) Regular food was mediocre but we also had a Vegan with us and their idea of accommodation was to ask her each night which of the side dishes from the other meals she wanted. The featured vegetarian meal was the same Indian food all 7 nights. Some the lunch restaurants have options such as a taco salad or veggie burger but they are not printed anywhere and you might only know about it until day 5 when you hear someone else in line ask for it. The specialty restaurants such as BBQ, Mexican, Burgers, Indian, Asian, Pasta are only open for lunch. Our group spent over $1,000 in the spa and they were slow, rude and not helpful on at least 5 different visits. You could not even leave the spa without waiting for the one person working the desk to complete a 10 minute sales pitch for someone else since you had to get your room key back from her. They have a cart with signs that let you pick your own ingredients for a self body scrub. When you ask the spa attendant how you use this service (that we paid for) she went in back and brought out a chocolate mint scrub. When we asked about the sign that tells you to pick your own ingredients, she said they don't do that and she went in back again and brought a second scrub option. I was charged for someone elses drinks one evening in the lounge and customer service took it off only to add it back on a day later. Over 60% of the ships daytime activities are based on getting more money out of you. (spa seminars, jewelry events, sales, auctions, photos, casino, yoga classes, ...) The ship's layout blocks sections of the ship on several of the activity and dining decks so you have to change floors, walk to the other section of the ship and then go back to the floor where you wanted to go. I don't know if this is Carnival or just this one ship but we will choose a different cruise line next time. Read Less

This was our first and last cruise on Carnival. We have traveled a lot around the world but never on a cruise and if we ever travel again by cruise it won’t be with Carnival. We took the 7-day Carnival Dream to Mahogany Bay, Belize, and Cozumel. We paid extra for a Balcony room on an upper deck (#8339) in case we had motion sickness. The cruise started out great with a fabulous first night of the Motor City show and after party. The Cruise director, the Flying Scotsman (Chris) was incredible. He amazed us with his energy level, talent, and versatility. However, we did not find any other shows that were of interest and nowhere to dance. The pools were small and very crowded but a major problem for us was that the decks around and in front of both pools is for smokers so the smoke drifted down into the pool area. We cannot stand the smell of cigarettes so we were constantly being run out of the pool area by smoke. The problem was where to escape to. We went to the Serenity Spa area and was led to believe by two attendants that it was only accessible if you paid additional fees. We should have known this was not true when the second attendant laughed when the other said this. We found out later that the recreation room and some of the spa rooms were open to all. The room and room service were also big problems. We ordered water from room service and did not get it delivered until the third day of calling and complaining. The first two days of calling we were put on hold for 10+ minutes without an operator every coming back on the line. The room was very small and the balcony not useable because the neighbors smoked on their balcony which ran us off ours. But the biggest problem was the excursions. We booked the Beginner’s Scuba dive for Mahogany Bay which I shaved my mustache of 30+ years for but the girl at the excursion desk not only told us the wrong place to go for it, she failed to tell us that the time was not the island time but the ship’s time. We found the place 45 minutes early which turned out to be 15 minutes late and missed our main excursion. Then the Captain decided to skip Belize (and our snorkeling excursion) because of a tropical storm. Instead we went straight to Cozumel. We loved the Amazing Scenic River excursion at Cozumel, although the 30 minute ferry to the mainland was VERY rough and got many of the passengers sick and the 30 minute ride through the jungle was really hard on my back. Still it was worth it. So we missed our main two excursions. The Captain elected to spend an extra day at sea (so we got back a day late), in rough seas, trapped in our rooms with nothing to do but read and occasionally get out to eat. The food was pretty good at the main dining buffet on the Lido deck. The Pizza Bar was bland but Guy’s Burgers and the Burrito Bar were excellent. The Steakhouse fine dining was excellent but not worth the extra cost and the waiter was arrogant and rude. Food in the Crimson Dining room was of comparable quality to the Steakhouse without the cost and with MUCH better service. Definitely will not do this again. It is not for non-smokers who are not into gambling, smoking, drinking, or over-eating. We are into excursions, dancing and physical activities followed by relaxation which we missed out on or was not accessible. In summary I cannot believe we paid money for this experience. PS. Did we mention that the hot tubs were not hot (barely warm) and most were closed at dark. Read Less

So, I have sailed with Carnival at least 10 times before, and I have to say that this cruise out of New Orleans was the absolute worst cruise with them that I have ever been on. Plain and simple, the cruise was understaffed, the ship's crew appeared to be worn down by months of dealing with the rudest group of cruisers ever know to walk aboard a boat, the service in the dining rooms and the Chef's Table Steakhouse appeared to be brand new, or figuring out how to get things to work, and frankly the only highlights of the cruise were the cabin stewards and room service (when the room or the outside of the room did not smell like sewage).... So we stayed in room 2297 and 2293 because they were connected staterooms. We had three adults and two children, and it was perfect for this setup. One issue, these two staterooms do not have upper berths, so if it is one adult and two small kids, everyone gets a small bed. We overcame this by doubling up the smaller kids on the single bed. The ship has been recently remodeled, and the addition of better food options kept us from starving at sea! The Burger Joint did a nice job, the Taco Joint did a nice job - the Barbeque line was always wrapped around the ship by folks who look liked they did not need to eat anymore Barbeque - but alas, we never were able to try it. Every station at the daily dining choices was always packed. Good luck getting a Deli sandwich - one person would make sandwiches, while the other stumbled around looking confused. Every food option that required more than me scooping some gelatinous stuff on to a plate or required some actual prep (eggs, etc) be prepared to stand in line for a long time. Also, be prepared to deal with the rowdiest, rudest, and loudest group of people that you have ever met- lines? They don't wait in line, they just jump right in and grab a piece of whatever is they want! The crew wanders aimlessly around the ship - and I can understand why - the crowd from New Orleans has just worn them the hell out. I was with them for a week, and they wore me out. From having to ask folks to turn off personal speakers and music players in the pool (playing just about every curse word known to man), to actually having to get security to do something about adults jumping in the pool on top of children - these folks were just plain trashy. The cruise also happened to be the Poker cruise, and I believe that every resource was taxed. Every public area, eating area, rest area, were always crowded. Not only was the ship crowded, but things were just broken and beaten down. We always pay for the Spa passes on the Cloud 9 ships - they are usually a relaxing experience - but on this ship, it was a joke. Broken water fixtures, non-functioning fixtures, stacks of empty glasses in the relaxation room, and again, the loud rude crowd discussing grandmas' skin tags or some other crazy crap in quiet areas. Just run down, beat up, and broken. My favorite part of the cruise was when one of the Italian engineers was actually lounging (in his white uniform overalls) in the treatment area - and would not move so that my son and I could sit down and wait for our treatment. I guess lead by example is taken seriously on this ship, because from what I could tell the crew really didn't give a crap. They wanted us off, they wanted off, they just did not care; On the lido, good luck finding a chair - obviously most of the women believe they need one chair per tattoo, and in this crowd, that meant there were no chairs. Anywhere. There was really no desire to sit by the pool during the day, the live music was usually drowned out by folks who were either deaf, or just like to yell. Constantly yell. Elevators - good luck. I doubt half the folks on this cruise even used the stairs once. Kids Camps - Good programs as usual, kids had fun. Night Club - Good, if you like rap music. Theme nights are fun, and always a lively crowd. Piano Bar - Great time. Casino - Except for the last day of the cruise, when the system went down and you were unable to cash out, it is actually one of the nicer casinos at sea. New machines, great Executive Host. I would write more - but this was just a horrible crappy cruise. Be wise, go out of Port Canaveral, or Florida, let the New Orleans crowd keep their Bourbon Street Sewer Smelling Cruise ship to themselves, and I bet you'll have a much better time. Carnival is a Fun Ship company, and is a great value for families, but I am afraid that this ship and port have turned into a floating malaise of apathy that leaves you with a feeling of regret from the minute you step on board until well after the day you disembark. Poor Poor job Carnival. Read Less

Half my family came back with a rash with red dots everywhere, our doctor said it was from there dirty hot tubs, gross. Which means they aren't cleaning the hot tubs right, what else aren't they cleaning right. My baby was getting cuts on his foot in our room, couldn't figure out what it was until I stepped on glass and cut my foot too. So they don't even clean your room right I had broken glass all over my floor from the previous guest that stayed in my room before me. The ship is out dated and needs a remodel for sure. The restaurant were you have timed dining everyday, we showed up 10 minutes early and the refused to seat us until 8:15 p.m the table was empty and everything was ready to go. We told customer service our problems but they didn't even get back to us until 2 days later, really?? The staff treats you like crap and I will never cruise with carnival again!!!! Read Less

We have had very good experiences on Carnival in the past. The Dream was supposed to be a wonderful ship. It was far from it. Cabin services reduced to once a day, not a problem, but it would have been nice if they had ran a sweeper, or picked up the trash. The shower stall overflowed over the edge of the stall and out into the room every single day of our cruise. Telling the ship steward, or maintenance did nothing to alleviate the situation. All our towels went to mopping up the mess, including the beach towels provided. We had an extended aft balcony. The people above us smoked both cigarettes and pot, tossing their butts and trash onto our deck daily. We couldn't enjoy the deck even in the middle of the night because of this. The food was not up to par. Our first several nights dining experience was badly handled....food came out all over the place, main course then salad then more main course. Cold food was not really cold and hot food was not ever hot, bread was bricks. We changed to anytime dining after that and the problem was solved. Elizabeth, Sobewann and team were wonderful. They knew us after their first day. Hot food was hot, cold food was cold, rolls were the best we have experienced on any cruise. The Casino staff Katherine and Alexia were wonderful, always recognizing us and speaking. The Casino Cage staff was great, too. The "Fun Crew" (aka Francoise and company) were very special and loads of fun. If not for these last experiences our total cruise would have been ruined. Thanks again to our Dining team Elizabeth, Sobewann and Katerina...the Casino staff, and the "Fun Crew". Worst of all was the dembarkment process....what a disaster. Unorganized beyond compare! I chose this cruise because my wife and I had never been on Carnival but had been on several other cruise lines and we wanted to try the Carnival Dream. I look at the ratings up above and have to laugh. This was by far the worst experience on a vacation we had ever been on and it will be the last with Carnival. First off let me say that the highlight of our trip was knowing our room would be clean while we weren't there and trust me this is where we spent the majority of our time. The ship from the start was so unorganized. When we were doing the mustard drill we were packed in a small room like sardines for 45 min while we waited for other people who decided they were too good to come down even though it was mandatory. Second I've never been on a cruise ship that didn't have someone constantly sanitizing your hands as you went to eat. This ship was so unsanitary I'm surprised there was wasn't several illnesses. My wife and like to enjoy ice cream at night only to find out that the mix was empty or their were no spoons or cones. I don't know about you but we don't like eating ice cream with our hands and since it's open 24/7 you'd think someone would be assigned to do just that. We tried to eat the buffet but ended up eating pizza or burgers every day lunch and dinner due to food not tasting good. The lines to the burgers and pizza were ridiculous so I guess they had the same experience we had. When the line to the pizza place is around the corner you'd think they would try to make more but they were always out. The one that beats all is we didn't get to go to Cozumel due to what the captain said was technical difficulties which caused the ship to go slower than normal stating the engineers were working all night to try and fix the problem only to find out that the reason we didn't stop was because of flooding in Cozumel from storms. All the captain had to do was be truthful about the situation and we would have just said that's Mother Nature. Mysteriously the next day the ship started to go at full speed. Most people we talked to were very upset that we were only given a credit of $50 per person like that is gonna fix the situation. We paid for three stops. We spent 4 days at sea twiddling our thumbs. The pools were so small you couldn't get in them because there were several people in them and overcrowded. I will say that the two stops we did make were very nice and enjoyable but the ship experience was terrible. You couldn't pay me to go on Carnival again and when asked by others I will be truthful and tell them to take another cruise line. Read Less

This was my second time on this ship, my husband's first. The Dream is very clean and there are many free food options. Guy's burgers located by the main pool has the best burgers of any ship or cruise line. Guy's was just added to this ship in February. Embarkation and debarkation went smoothly. The Port traffic in New Orleans is terrible on sailing day, so plan ahead for traffic delays. We would sail on this ship again. We are platinum members so the extra little benefits were really nice, it was our first cruise in platinum status. Our cabin was located aft next to the corner balcony cabins. It had a large balcony with two chairs, table and chase. The inside was odd shaped due to its location, but nice just the same. No couch. We felt some vibrations at times. We liked the fact that our bed faced the window and balcony door. Read Less

The past cruses they had live shows with costumes, famous impersonators, Great comedians, magic shows, impersonators like Michael jackson, elvis, garth brooks. they can fool new cruises but not the ones that have been going for a long time. Its going to take a long time before I go on another carnival cruise also there were too many people they are packing people as much as they can. long lines everywhere.. they staff was great waiters, room service but the food and entertainment........ yak Read Less

The Dream is a large ship and very much understaffed. From the check in process, to the room steward, the dining room staff, bar staff, it was about the worst service I have ever received on a cruise ship. Carnival now asks that you chose when you would like your cabin serviced, evening or morning. My steward did not even show up the first night on the ship. Always a shortage of towels. Like to pick up the dirty towels and not replace them. Went 5 days with no pool towels. In the dining room, the waiters continually overlooked our table. I had to find the water pitcher and bread baskets/butter several times. Diner arrived cool several times. Had to track down the cocktail waiter many times when he should have know that we were a table of drinkers after the first night. Buffet was full of dirty tables most of the time. They now charge $20 for some items on the regular dining room menu such as a NY steak. We had an opportunity to dine in the pay restaurant. The food was quite good, however the service was also severely lacking and heaven forbid you ask for something out of the norm. There was no deviation from the printed menu selections. Bar staff and many of the staff in general were not the typical happy engaged employees we once saw on most cruise lines. The Serenity spa is a $139 fee for the week. The gal at the coffee bar would not take the time to make a drink when she prematurely cleaned up the bar 20 minutes early. She simply stated all I have available is... Entertainment seems to be primarily made up of ship staff more than than the usual performers that had been brought onboard. Be careful with your purchases in the gift shop. I purchased an Invicta 18165 watch marked at $795 at a discounted guaranteed lowest price of $149.. When I arrived home I see the watch can be purchased almost anywhere for $89 including Walmart. Having cruised many times, I do have Platinum status. Debarkation took longer than ever. Even with Platinum status it was after 9:30 before I could get off the ship. One good thing, we did luck out with the weather. All in all, try another cruiseline. Carnival has cut far too many corners. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we had not been to the Keys yet. We have cruise many times in the past but typically to the Caribbean. The course was altered due to weather. I understand that, but they knew prior to departure, and should have offered customers the opportunity to reschedule and still receive what they paid for...which was a trip to the keys and Bahamas. Who wants to pay for a filet and get a burger? On board accounts were screwed up. The food was terrible this time! They stopped having any variety at breakfast and they added an upcharge in the dinning room for certain food items. Debarkation was a NIGHTMARE. After calling FOUR decks for self assist, the entire ship came flooding to deck three. No one was turned away due to not being called, pushing and shoving caused people to drop their purchased liquor and created spills, and people were claiming their luggage after only four self assist decks had been called. WHY have policies and procedures if you aren't going to bother enforcing them. The most UNSAFE debarkation EVER. The ship was late to depart and late to arrive back. The lifeguards at the waterworks were lazy and didn't care if small children were getting injured. First time ever that my son didn't want to stay in the kids club. Day one was enough for him..."it is no fun this time"! I paid the staff in the dinning room to help with a surprise proposal, and they accepted the money (as packages are not offered on Carnival like they are on Royal) yet when it came time for action, the maître d was on the phone. RUINED the experience! I felt like I had stepped on board the SLUM SHIP, not the fun ship. The quality is definitely plummeting. Read Less

Carnival Dream is supposed to be a large, fun-ship, but maybe due to its design doesn’t feel all that large. The water park was great! I had a lot of fun going down those slides, especially the drain pipe, which to me was the fastest. The serenity retreat was nice when you can find a lounger. The serenity area had a lot of wind to keep you cooled off, but not a lot of shade unless you can score a lounger with a canopy. Unfortunately, the ship itself is due for a dry-dock. It’s weathered and worn with cracked windows, broken shower door, non-working balcony light and lots of chipped, nicked and broken stuff. The décor is garish, out dated and should have been updated way before now. The Carnival iconic red Fun-ship funnel wasn’t even red anymore it was faded and weathered like the rest of the ship. I’ve never been a big Carnival fan and I hope to never vacation with them again given my overall experience, which is detailed below. - Embarkation/Debarkation Process: The embarkation process was great! We had priority boarding and it only took us about 30 minutes once we entered the pier terminal to board the ship. the rooms weren’t ready until 1:30 p.m., but we just waited in the Dream Atrium lounge. Plenty of waiters and waitresses were there taking drink orders and they had the drink of the day already on their trays. The drink of the day was strong, but a lady stated that they started out strong but by the end of the cruise they barely put any alcohol in them. I thought she was exaggerating, but, no, she was right. My drinks had less and less alcohol in them as the days went by and I only order one drink a day (in case you were thinking this was their way of cutting me off). But, as for embarkation, it was a very smooth process. Debarkation was utter chaos. There were some people who actually waited in the designated waiting areas and then the rest waited wherever, even in the hallways. There were lines of people everywhere amongst the people just waiting in the way. Once our debarkation zone number was called it was hard to find the two lines leading off of the ship. Once we were finally off the ship in the gangway, my mother, who’s in a motorized scooter herself had to move over to let those being pushed in wheel chairs by Carnival attendants by. We finally received assistance when one of the workers directed us to the elevators. (I thank her much!) Once we go down to where the luggage was my Mom waited on her scooter to the side while we gathered up all the luggage. One of the agents wanted to act like we were in the way and had to have my Mom, scooter and all the luggage moved further to the side instead of just getting us a porter. So, while she was messing around, I grabbed a porter to load our bags and get us on our way. The porter was great! He shepherded us through Customs, grabbed us a taxi, unloaded our luggage and had us on our way in no time. (I thank him for saving the day!) During debarkation, no one was directing, no one was leading, no one made it their priority to be helpful and make the process as clear and as easy as possible. This includes not only Carnival staff, but the Customs staff member who instead of being helpful, which would have cleared the area of people and luggage faster, decided that moving people/luggage a few inches over was the best approach. I’m sorry to include a Customs staff member in a bad review being a federal worker myself and part of the same Department, but I know I try to be as helpful as possible to our vendors and the public. I’ve even walked people through our processes over the phone! - Food/Restaurants: When we first got onboard we went to the Lido deck to eat at the buffet restaurant called The Gathering. The food was good that day and I had no problem finding something I wanted to eat. I got grilled fish, kidney beans, potato salad and a mixed broccoli medley. All of it was good. We changed our dinner choice to Any Time Dining, which was an easy process on the first day of the cruise. We did have to show a card everyday showing that our dinner choice was changed instead of Carnival staff just noting it in the computer system. We ate in the Crimson and at first the food was pretty good. I had beef brisket the first night and an oyster appetizer another night that were especially good. But, the meals decreased in flavor after that until everything tasted pretty bland in the Crimson dining room. None of the desserts were very good, not even the chocolate melting cake, which Carnival was famous for. (I remember ordering the chocolate melting cake almost every night on my previous Carnival cruise. Of course, I did that because the rest of the desserts were awful.) Due to having Any Time dining, when a lot of people want to eat dinner at the same time, the Carnival Dream has a beeper lights up, turn in your beeper, ensure all of your party is there and wait some more for them to get you a table. I don’t need to go out in the middle of the ocean for this. In short, food that was great could be found at the Seaside BBQ and Mongolian Wok, when they’re open. The Seaside BBQ was only open for lunch on sea days. The Mongolian Wok, located in The Gathering buffet was only open for lunch and the lines stretched all the way to the elevators sometimes. (They do need a smoke ventilation system for the Wok area though. I had to hold a napkin over my nose to be able to breathe without coughing. I wasn’t the only one.) None of the desserts onboard were very good and there wasn’t very many places to go eat. The burgers and fries at the Grill were good. The pizza at the Pizza Pirate was a little bland and they didn’t have a good selection of pizzas. The servers at the Pizza Pirate weren’t all that friendly either. I ate breakfast in the buffet everyday and for the most part it was pretty good. (I do wish they had turkey sausage and turkey bacon though. They had a lot of pig.) I brought my own Coffee Mate creamer for my daily coffee. - Ports: The ports of call were Montego Bay, Jamaica; Grand Cayman Islands and Cozumel, Mexico. Unfortunately, Montego Bay looked run down. I went to Doctor’s Cave Beach utilizing Carnival’s Hop On-Hop Off shuttle. The shuttle worked well and Doctor’s Cave Beach was nice. I had no problem getting lounge chairs and an umbrella. The music playing was nice and there was food available for purchase along with drinks. I went snorkeling using my own snorkel gear, but snorkel gear is available for rent there as well. Of course, I didn’t see anything because I was in the protected area close to shore. But, they had a guy selling glass bottom boat and snorkel tours as well on the beach. I also went swimming and afterwards ordered a drink that had the colors of the Jamaican flag in it; however, they did the same thing as on the ship and barely put any alcohol in it. I highly recommend experiencing Doctor’s Cave Beach in Montego Bay. In Grand Cayman, we went on the Amazing Turtle and Wildlife Adventure excursion and all I can say is Awesome! I held a baby sea turtle and snorkeled with them using my own snorkel gear in their habitat. I did have trouble finding the habitat, so hopefully they will add more tour guides to help people navigate the place. Also, we weren’t permitted to take our own pictures of me holding the baby turtle, which was rude. I bought a flash drive from them with the pictures on them anyway. But, I hate being nickel and dimed though and that is truly beneath this beautiful place. But, again, it was Awesome and Grand Cayman was beautiful! The tour bus driver even dropped people off at the beach who wanted to go after the excursion was done. In Cozumel, we went shopping. We especially wanted to go to Ron Jon’s. We went, but it was pricey and wasn’t anything like the one in Cocoa Beach, Florida. However, the one in Cocoa Beach is labeled as “one of a kind” and it is. If you're ever in Cocoa Beach definitely go to Ron Jon’s and skip the one in Cozumel. There were plenty of local shops with beautiful figurines, art work and jewelry. Needless to say, Cozumel is always gorgeous and you can’t help but dance to the music playing in each shop. (Just don’t break anything. You break it, you buy it.) Our shopping trip got rained out though, so it was back to the ship. After Cozumel, it was supposed to be another relaxing day at sea. Only breakfast was good, but the entertainment at dinner was great! We wanted to wrap up our vacation by purchasing pictures of our vacation. Normally, we’re able to get a group special to buy all of the prints from our various cabins at one flat fee because there are so many photos. We were informed by the Carnival photo staff that they no longer did this. They wouldn’t even give us a percentage off our photos ,which totaled over $1,000. Each cabin had to go through the photos, pick out what they really had to have and discard the rest. This was the icing on top of the already bad dessert. All they did was throw away the photos we refused to pay over $1,000 for. Ridiculous!! The only program they had was some stupid rewards program where you get free junk after every so many photos purchased. We didn’t want a bunch of junk. We wanted the photos. I already just finished taking bags of free stuff to Goodwill and Goodwill probably doesn’t want that stuff. They did throw in a free photo album that stated on it you get ten free 4x6 photos with it. But, they’re not ten of your photos. We were told they meant ten free photos of the ship. Who wants or needs ten free photos of the same ship (and they were just of the ship, not different areas in or on the ship, but ten of the same photos of the ship). This was the height of asinine and after debarkation culminated into the decision not to vacation with Carnival again. The wonderful Fun-ship Ads and cheaper pricing are just ploys to get you onboard to nickel and dime you the entire time. Spend some more money and take a real vacation on Royal Caribbean or Norwegian. Royal Caribbean is in a class all to itself and Norwegian is very good and definitely trying to compete with Royal. Norwegian’s O’Sheehan’s 24-hour restaurant is Awesome! Oh, I almost forgot the spa. I purchased an Elemis Body Sculpting Cellulite & Colon Therapy Spa service. At Nemacolin, I know this is not a cruise line, but cruise lines should consult with Nemacolin on the spa services they provide and how the spa is run in general, you get access to the spa amenities for the day of your spa service. No need to purchase access to the thermal suites separately. I didn’t get access to the thermal suites with my spa service on this ship. There was no fluffy white robe, no relaxation waiting area beforehand and no access to any other areas of the spa unless you purchase them separately, not very relaxing. The therapist was late. I had to talk to two different staff members explaining that my appointment was supposed to start soon and I hadn’t even been given the check-in questionnaire. There was a couple sitting beside me having the same problem. Granted, normally I don’t like the spas on ships. They’re always trying to sell you something. I think they should all contract with Hand & Stone Spa, make sure they have some great masseuses onboard and consult with Nemacolin on how the spa should run, but I digress. I did get all of my treatment time and then some. All I can say is I hope they start to provide an actual spa experience on these cruises with consistent quality. This is not just a Carnival problem. i chose this cruise as the timing was perfect. My wife just finished her chemo treatments for breast cancer, she had her surgery three weeks before we cruised and it was a celebration cruise for her overcoming the cancer. We both are Platinum members. We have been cruising with carnival since 1985. This was the first cruise we have ever been on where we did not feel like platinum members. We we treated as ordinary at the concierge counter. Tell me what is the benefit of being Platinum or Diamond (which we are trying to attain) if there is no respect or better treatment. We have friends who are members of Roayal Carribean and we have on many occasions turn down going on a RCI cruise because we felt commited to Carnival. The debarkation was rediculous. it took two hours for platinum members who checked luggage to get off. Welll i was certainly concerned as we had a flight to catch back to dallas texas. we made it just in time to board the plane. It gets worst. when we entered our balcony room ( the only way we cruise) it was shameful the amount of dust we saw around the A/C outlet and the trim around the room. I said nothing to the room stewart as i did not know if he was responsible. So i took a washcloth and wet it and cleaned the dust of the ceiling and the above trim around the room. The first day it rained. We when it rains you expect once the day drys out no standing water will be on your balcony. not only on my balcony but the adjoing balconies to either side of my room, I dont know how not to be disgusted. I called the service desk and asked to have it removed. for the next two days as it rained i had to asked the room stewart to deal with the water. A bit concerned with the sika virus and standing water on my balcony. Yes we felt very comfortable under these conditions, Bad air, standing water , mis treatment. Why should i continue cruising Carnival? Read Less

We have cruised 6 times with 5 times on Carnival. We chose this cruise on the Carnival Dream for out family reunion which was a Big mistake. The new assigned boarding times was a disaster and had to stand in a very small area in the heat for 2 hours before entering the building with air conditioning. Now they charge $20 for certain items in the dining room and also charge for most items on the 24 hour room service such as pizza and wings. Was not greeted by the room steward until we hunted him down on the second day. Our room frig did not work and we had ordered a 12 pack of water before cruising and had to fight with guest services for 2 days before we got another one. Guests are allowed to dump your personal items such as phones, towels, and bags out of your lounge chairs by the pool if you get out of them to go eat or to the bathroom even if you got up at 7 am to get chairs together with your family. Most frustrating was we had NO air conditioning and had a balcony we could not use dt having to keep the curtains closed and the lights off just to keep the room at 80 degrees. We spent many frustrating hours a day calling and standing in line at guest services with them telling us each day it would be fixed and the 6th day of our cruise they finally said no the air conditioner can not be fixed. They NEVER offered to move us to another cabin and only the 6th night of our cruise gave us a small desk fan. Only one staff ever apologized for the way we had been treated. On a positive note embarkation was excellent and our dining staff was excellent even though the food every day was very bland. This was not a vacation or family cruise for us cause we spent hours in line at guest services and multiple phone calls every day when we should have been enjoying ourselves in addition to the money we spent. We have been loyal Carnival customers since 1994, however our cruise last week changed all of that. We have sailed on several other lines but always chose Carnival when traveling with family. We booked four cabins on the Carnival Dream for the March 20 sailing. It was by far our worst experience on Carnival. It started at the check-in process and continued through debarkation. I wish there was one big issue, that would be easy to get over and move on. Unfortunately, it was large number of smaller issues, day after day, that left us with the clear understanding that the senior staff on this ship did not care much for their guests. Listening to all the issues my party had to deal with over the course of seven days brought me to tears. While we all tried to make the best of it, our memories of this "fun" ship are not the ones we had hoped for. Shame on Carnival! Here is just one example: Cabins are cleaned only once a day, our steward explained to use that this is because he is now responsible for twice as many cabins as before. Our four cabins had no soap, only two towels, and no robes. We were told we could call and request these items and he would happy to get them. It made us feel as if we were putting him out to ask for soap and extra towels just so we could shower after traveling to the ship. We got our bar of soap day 2. Even though our party requested to dine together, we were separated. Had to wait in line to get that fixed then and when they did we were move after night one and put in the middle of a huge party. Even though we showed up to dinner on time we were clearly not a priority. We waited over an hour for food so they could tend to this big party. It wen't downhill from there. Read Less

This was my first Carnival cruise but I have been on six (6) other cruises. I have never had the experience on any other cruise before. My friends and I decided we wanted to go on a cruise. All together there were eight of us; four of them have never been on a cruise before. Everything was great when we first arrived. We were all excited and anticipated the great adventure we were about to partake. Until we arrived in our rooms, One of my friends room actually had lipstick on the sheets on her bed. We were just arriving in the rooms. My room was missing towels and there was a hole in the wall where the light switch was. In addition, in our room we requested our beds to be separated. We brought this to our tenants attentions. My friends sheets were changed, I was told the open hole in the wall was supposed to be there and I decided to forgo on the separating of the beds and my discussion went no where. From there, the dinning experience was horrendous. I have major allergies. When I cruised on other cruises, I always met and spoke with the maitre d, head waiter. We never spoke with him/her. The list of problems in the dinner room where: steaks had no flavor, hot soups were cold, steaks overdone, chicken dry, tea pot had food in it, silverware had food on them, by end of the cruise the steaks had a rancid taste to them. We could not eat it. In the Gathering Room, the eggs were powder and when I asked for a egg and ham omelet, I bit into it to discover it was not real ham. Which I cannot have canned ham, spam, etc. The fruit was bruised, the ham they did have was rubbery. As the days on the cruise lasted, the worse the dinner experience got. The thing that concerned me the most was the fact that they did not have hand sanitize available at the lines. When I questioned why, I was told they were broken and they did not have anymore. I carried hand sanitize and proceeded to pass my out. As far as our shore excursions, we booked our shore excursions for the morning due to I have medical problems that by the end of the day, I am extremely tired. I have more energy in the morning. We were not told that our excursion was moved to 12:30 nor was we told why. It was by accident we discussed this issue. But in all the shore excursions were fabulous. I did have to visit medical once. My friend asked if they could get some tape to tape my toes due to I broke my toes on an excursion. They said I had to go down there to see the doctor. When I got down there, I was never acknowledged or anything. He asked why I was there and I said I needed tape for my toe. He never looked at my toe or anything. Just gave me tape. NO good bye, go to hell, or anything. My friends could have gone down there and picked it up for me. There was no reason that I needed to walk all the way down there just to pay and be handed tape. WOW!!!! The casino and smoking on the cruise was another issue. There was so much smoking in the casino that is traveled to the outlining areas. I have breathing issues and found this to be a major problem. Also, the smoking and e-cigarette smoking rules are not enforced. There was e smoking in the Gathering Sewage smell on our deck due to a sewage back up. DISGUSTING We did not utilize the Jacuzzi on the ship due to they were no warmer than the swimming pool water. At night teenagers would go up into the adult section and utilize this as their make out area. Security was sitting on the other side sitting down. I just walked away. Disembarkation....bring your sense of humor. That is all I can say The thing that disgusted me the most about the cruise my last night. I wiped my body off with a towel that had a huge brown stain on it. I thought I was going to throw up. If you plan on going on this ship; beware... I could not believe how many people where complain. The staff is great but I think they were trying to do the best they could do with what they had I started getting sick on my last day of the cruise, me and two others in my group are still sick after seven days. We all went to the doctor and have either the flu and/or viral infection. I blame this on the fact that there was no sanitation processes going on during our cruise. Read Less

I will start off with the only positive about the Carnival Dream. They have on sea days a late breakfast in the tacky dining room from 8am-1pm. Do not go on this cruise if you do not smoke. Casino and night clubs are full on smoking but you can start to smell it 2 floors up from the casino. We had a shower curtain that sat in the sloppy soap scum in our shower because the drain never fully drained. Balcony's are too small. Drinks are really over priced and the drink packages have so many restrictions on them. Boat is overall ugly and tacky looking. You would never know this boat is only around 5 years old, very worn out already. paint chipping off the balcony. Pizza and other garbage laying in the hallways in the mornings after the drunks left it there. Room service menu looks good until you discover that you have to pay for the good stuff, they only offer the sandwiches for free. Buffet is really bad food. We went there the first night because they mixed up our dining time, so we were there around 6ish. And the buffet was closed . They had some cold spaghetti and buns we ate. There is so much more better cruise lines out there. I recommend Celebrity. It's just as cheap and they offer usually free alcohol with it....... Read Less
