This review is for the Carnival cruise ship The Dream. The staff were super nice but could not understand or speak english very well. The ship was begining to show its age and had several rust spots on the balcony . But the worst part was the unkept look of the entire ship. All of the windows were dirty and had streaks of dirt that looked as if it had been there a while. The carpets in the hallways were stained and looked in need of replacement. The balcony sateroom that we were assigned to was 2 doors down from the exit hall. A large family made it a meeting point every day at least 3 times a day. They would yell up and down the hall for their other family members and scream and yell at their children as they disciplined them. This happened several times a day. Right after we embarked our steward stopped at our door to deliver complimentary water bottles. She knocked and banged on the door and stated that she had complintary water to which I replied not now. She then used her pass key to let her self in. Imagine my surprise when the door opened and I was standing there with no clothes on and my husband was in the bathroom. There seemed to be a lot of confusion in the dinning room also, as most of the crew did not understand or speak English very well. However, our main waiter Walter did his best to try and smooth things over. The Food....The Mahi Mahi was over cooked and was replaced with Salmon that was undercooked. While the food was very well presented it lacked a lot in taste. The overall cleanliness of things was discorning. There was often drinks and ice spilled in the elevators and crew members that were looking the other way at the girls as they were cleaning the plexiglass of the stairs. Overall we were very disapointed in our cruise. We were a repeat customer but have decided that next time we will choose a different ship and propably choose a different cruise line. Read Less

The new check-in process is uncomfortable and not very customer friendly. Walking in the ship is like any other ship that you have gone before. No wow factor. The food was consistently blah to bad through the cruise. We went to the sushi on the second night and I got food poisoning, so my 3rd day was basically ruined by stomach aches and nausea. Good thing we were in Mexico and I was able to buy meds there. On board stores were pretty crappy, nothing really nice to buy: jewelry extremely expensive or dirt cheap but ugly and VERY cheap looking, the clothing items low quality and nothing to sneeze at. Drinks are more expensive than I thought they were going to be. Tonight is our last night and we are going to the steakhouse. Hoping that the $38 surcharge is worth my while. Ship needs cleaning and maintenance. The crew does what they can but they don’t look too happy. I feel quite underwhelmed by this trip, and I’m a seasoned cruiser. Sad. Not sure if I will cruise again with Carnival in the future. AFTER CRUISE UPDATE: ok, so the steakhouse was pretty good, service was great. Definitely worth the almost $40 per person. We did self debarkation and it was pretty smooth and we were able to get out the ship and on the line for immigration in less than 30 minutes. Our immigration line of course was the slowest, we were there for about 40 minutes but were lucky to be able to get on the shuttle to the parking lot right away. Overall it paid off to be ready to go as soon as possible and not using the “relaxed” debarkation. My mom and daughter enjoyed the cruise and feel that the food was good but not as good as usual. They would go back on another Carnival cruise. Myself? I am not sure if I am up to deal with so many people in such small spaces again. We’ll see... thanks for reading my review/rant. Read Less

I do want to say there was one individual in Customer Service that was absolutely amazing! Cudo's to Neo! He was the one that earned the 3 stars. Thank you, Neo you are absolutely the best part of the Ship! The food was horrible in the buffet area would have eaten in the dining room but my anytime seating was replaced with an 8:15 P.M. dinnertime which I am one not to eat that late at night. The Matre D' in the dining area we were assigned was the worst the last night he did come through for us and we were able to have a decent meal in the dining area. We were on a cruise that allowed for free drinks so it stated in the package but when we arrived we realized it was only if you are playing in the casino. While in the casino, not one waitstaff showed up to take a drink order. If you try and order at the casino bar they will turn you down and tell you to order from the staff on the floor. No waitstaff to be found for most of the cruise. Beware of the free drinks while in the casino could not even get water just a real scam as far as I could see. We finally opted to just purchase a cheers package which you could then purchase from the casino bar. The first day we had a woman meet us at the cabin to introduce herself very pleasant asked us if we wanted service once or twice a day. We opted for twice a day if that was an option however we would see her in the morning and she was nowhere to be found in the afternoons so we would seek out new towels after showering and getting ready for our buffet dinner. Service was scarce all around. The funniest part about the room set-up was that the towel design left on your bed that Carnival is known for was just a towel draped in the middle of the bed but could not identify what it was they were trying to create. On the last day at sea, we decided to sit by the pool in the back of the boat 'Lido Deck' woman's restroom backed up staff could not handle shutting down the bathroom, I literally pulled over two wet floor signs that were on the deck and put them in front of the door! This was a hazard waiting to happen. The woman kept ignoring and pushing aside the signs and into the bathroom. The water was up to my ankles and people are walking in there. No one outside to stop them or get someone in there immediately to stop the water flow. I moved out of the area and went up to the Serenity deck which was overcrowded given they had to close the second floor due to high winds. Next morning and by no fault of the crew's we came into port with a huge bang due to the high winds. We had someone else's empty Dr. Pepper cans and a white hanger land on our deck. The vacation was not what I had expected to say the least! The worst part is I have another cruise scheduled for August through Carnival that I do not even want to go on. To be fair though out of the several Carnival Cruises we have taken this is the only one I have complaints with! The others were great so I will give it one more try :) I am hoping it was just bad timing, shortage of staff, too many people booked on the cruise, etc.. Read Less

Worst accommodations ever on my 14 cruises! Room 6237 was like being at a rock concert for 5 days! The walls, the bed, and the floor were booming during every show! If you go to bed early or enjoy some quiet time at night this is not the room for you! It is above the encore theater and there is no padding whatsoever! They offered to move us but we needed two rooms beside each other and they didn’t have that. I do believe that there should be some type of disclaimer on these rooms when people are booking them! The food and service was excellent and that was a plus! Our dining room staff was amazing and fast and the food was really good! Our ports of call were good, we had booked our excursions thru 3rd party to get a better rate, it was worth it. If you love music everywhere this is the ship for you! Read Less

The ship was nice however being a smoker I found it to not be very smoker friendly (I know there are people who don't like smoking but, why should they have it better than us smokers? We all pay to cruise) there seemed to be more smokers on board than there was room for us all to smoke and be able to sit down and relax with a smoke and drink. The cabin was nice and dinning (food) was okay (our dinning staff was awesome!). The comedy shows were great but, the theater shows not so much. If you were in a hot tub at night (not late at night either before 9:00pm), you had to get out of the hot tub to go to the bar to get a drink yourself. Servers were very scarce. Our other services were on point. We missed our Honduras port which was very disappointing, as the excursion I had booked there was on my bucket list. Overall the cruise was nice and I got to spend quality time with family. Although my first cruise which was with Norwegian cruise line was much better. We plan on cruising again in the future, we may or may not book with Carnival as I am undecided at the moment. Read Less

We’ve only been on 1 other Carnival cruise. It’s typically not our first choice of cruise lines. Positives: clean staterooms, Seafood Shack was fabulous, staff was attentive. Lunch deserts were out of this world. Comedy was entertaining. Negatives: Excursions were poorly described. Based on descriptions, We were disappointed. Not enough pool chairs Pool area was overcrowded Entertainment was really bad, really bad. Let me say that again, really bad. We wer never greeted when we came aboard. We didn’t know how to get a card to enter our room Disembarkation took forever. Carnival missed the opportunity to improve the customers experience by making the excursions clearer, choosing better productions, offering more onboard activities, flexible dinning times, greeting upon boarding ship, disembarkation quicker, offering more buffet areas instead of just 2 ( the lines were insane). This was not a bad cruise, was average based on experiences we have assess from past cruise lines. We’ve had fabulous cruises and average cruises. Read Less

This is my second and husbands 3rd cruise with Carnival. We went on this cruise in 16 and had a wonderful time so we brought our family with us for this cruise. So our party of 8 with 6 first time cruisers had some great experiences and some not so great. So here is what I took away, Theodoro and Nordam our cabin stewards could have not been more wonderful. They and our wait staff Arlianty, Naw, and Ramil were also the light of our evening and we loved seeing Dandy in the mornings for brunch. The Spa staff specically Emma was quite RUDE and we won’t use the sap again. The staff otherwise just seemed less enthusiastic this trip and Guest service staff was also rude not only to us but we heard them being rude to others just asking questions. The Crimson matradee was also quite gracious. The camp ocean staff also was great to our 4 year old granddaughters. Ms. Cheese and Ms. smiley were a hit with them. We were so excited to take our children and grandchildren on this family vacation because of our last experimece but we felt a little let down as staff didn’t seem as present in their position, and from someone who has been in customer service and healthcare for many years the staff who on the last cruise made us look forward to this trip have now made us feel like we definitely wouldn’t travel on the Dream again but we may need to try another cruise line all together. This was the first Dream class ship I have sailed after many cruises with Carnival Cruise Line. As can happen on a new ship this was one of those: " by the time I get off I'll know my way around " cruises. Walking up to deck 4 to cross over the main galley to descend to deck 3 got tiresome but it is what it is. Spirit class ships have me spoiled no doubt. The cruise director Gary was every bit as good and more than what I had read here on Cruise Critic. He has a lively exuberance that's infectious and his winning smile and clever wit never disappoint. The new cakes served at lunch in the lido were a big favorite. Each day there were new and colorful looking varieties to tempt me. Some days I got decadent and walked my plate of cake over to the frozen yogurt dispenser and topped it off with a cold treat for good measure. Carnival has really upped their game with this fine addition to the dessert offerings. Afternoon tea at 3 PM in the Scarlet Dining Room each sea day afternoon was enhanced by the live performance of the violin and cello trio named Allure Strings. The afternoons spent there were relaxing and a welcome respite from the hubbub of the pool decks. Carnival has always given their guests choice for events and this cruise was no exception. When the sun got to be too much there was always another round of trivia to participate in at the Ocean Plaza or live music being performed on the main stage over the bar in the Grand Atrium. The main dining room was hit or miss this cruise. When ordering the same entree on another day the presentation and preparation often was distinctly different. A simple request for a side of steamed vegetables on elegant night was met with resistance by the service staff: " This is elegant night, everything comes like it is on the menu, there are no sides tonight. " I must say that in future I'll pass on elegant nights and I'll elect to have dinner at the lido buffet where choice is still an option. My cabin was the cleanest cabin I have had in many years on Carnival. There wasn't a spot of dust behind the TV or in the closets to be seen. The management and stewarding team are to be congratulated for taking their responsibilities to good housekeeping to heart. Well done! My request for twice a day service was met with a gracious smile and a can do attitude and the steward's positivity was present all week. This cruise the housekeeping crew raised the overall score but the main dining room hiccups and bumps along the way lowered the score decidedly. Elegant night wasn't so elegant this cruise and my interest in returning to the dining room on those evenings has been lost to me until such time as Carnival finally changes the American Feast ( or Famine ) menu. The Dream is an excellent size ship and rarely seemed crowded. Only 2 small pools but numerous hot tubes available that are at a low temp and seem like your own personal pool. Ship is clean and well maintained. Modern, not dated at all. Service very good. Walter our head waiter and number one his assistant took a few dinners to come out of their shell, but for the most part were friendly, funny and knew our likes by end of week. Gerald our cabin guy was always friendly in the hall and kept our cabin tidy. Cabin service has decreased to only once a day and it’s evident the number they are responsible for has increased but staff are making it work with a smile on their face. Gary the cruise director was hilarious and seen everywhere on the ship multiple times a day. I don’t know how he has so much energy. Getting on and off ship was fastest I’ve ever ever experienced. I’ve cruised several times on other lines, first time on carnival. We had a balcony room that could sleep 4. With 3 adults I was amazed at the size. Not crowded at all. Couch bed was like a full size twin firm mattress. Lots of storage and closet space. Be aware only one plug in for entire cabin. We made it work with an extension that added 4 additional plugins and 4 USB ports. If u don’t mind not being by the pool, loungers were always available on other decks in and out of the sun in quieter locations. The bars were hopping with friendly fast bartenders ready to make just about anything. Now for the allergy part. My sister has multiple allergies. Specifically eggs and artificial color or dye. Unfortunately she could not drink any frozen drinks. I looked at many of the mixer cartons like pina colada, daiquiri etc. nope. They had red, yellow and other colors in them. This was a bummer b/c our previous cruise line had no dyes for color and she was able to try many new drinks normally not available for her. So no fun girly drinks for her this trip. Suri at the alchemy bar was a great help and came up with one new drink for her. Also for the allergies, we notified the dinning room of the allergies soon after boarding. Our first three dinners we had to remind waiter of allergies and ask about food they were trying to serve sister. At least twice food was taken back and confirmed it was something she couldn’t have. Sister was provided the dinner menu for next night each evening to select her choices, but nothing was offered if her selection contained allergens. And nothing was offered for guidance or choices for breakfast or lunch. Also we never saw anyone besides our waiter. Our previous cruises the head dinning room guy was so attentive to her allergies he was almost a stalker. And if she couldn’t have something she selected he’d bring out an alternate choice or a special dessert just for her. Forgot to add she’s also allergic to chocolate which totally limits dessert choices too. Personally I felt the dinner choices were not as many as other cruises and food was just OK. Guys burger, pizza and deli were excellent. Overall we had a great time. But I won’t be back on carnival with my sister due to her allergies. Comedians were great! Saw 3 different ones. Read Less

ok so I’ll give a review on my first cruise. It just wasn’t that great. Maybe my expectations were too high? I’ll start with the room. It was nice and our housekeeper did a great job. Beds were clean and comfy. The shower was a terrible design. Every time we would shower the water would pour out to the floor. A lot of water. I always made sure to put the curtain where it was supposed to go but it didn’t matter. The food. I’ve heard from a few ppl how great cruise ship food is. I guess those people didn’t eat on the Dream. It just wasn’t good. All the bread was hard as a brick and cold. All the “hot” food was lukewarm at best. The only good food was the pasta place. The garlic bread looked good but it was cold. All the cakes looked yummy but they were very dry. The pizza was ok. The coffee was not hot at all. The water tasted like metal. Two of the hot tubs we tried were cold. The stops. Ok so Montego Bay was very sketchy. I didn’t like it at all. They tried to sell us weed two times. I was pretty nervous the whole time. Grand Cayman was nice. Mexico was the best! Mr sancho’s was awesome. When the cruise was over, my family of four all had an issue. My husband has a rash on his leg, oldest daughter has a rash on her face and butt, and a bad sinus infection, youngest daughter has sore in her mouth, and I have a bad sinus infection. To sum it up, we spent a lot of money and didn’t really have that much fun. Read Less

We planned a family cruise with myself, husband and 3 teenagers (161/2, 15 and 15). This was planned carefully and we were so excited to be skipping Christmas! We flew in to New Orleans the day before and stayed at the Hampton Inn Convention Center because they have a free shuttle to the cruise port. - Best way to go if you fly. Embarkation was a breeze. Carnival has a great system down. We were on the ship easy peasy. Our bags were delivered to our room by 1:30 as we were suite guests and has purchased Faster to the Fun for our teens who were staying in balcony room a few doors down from us. The ship color scheme is a bit outdated but I am not super picky. I want the ship clean and it was clean. The staff was friendly and outgoing. Lots of food choices for eating but however we found most of the food to be mediocre at best. Best lunch was Blue Iguana, Pasta Bar and Guys Smokehouse. The Lido buffet was only tolerable. Their best item in my opinion was the OJ and desserts. We did Your Time Dining and Novi and her team did a fantastic job. If you sail on the Dream- ask for her! The food was ok. I ate it but there was nothing that I can remember as remarkable. The wait was long.. like 1.5 -2 hours to eat dinner and my teenagers did not like having to converse with us for that long. I should have brought playing cards while waiting. It wasn't Novi's fault. I think they overload the staff. 8 tables of 6+ guess is daunting! I always saw her sprinting from table to table. We got tired of the wait and skipped dessert most nights. A few nights we ate at the Lido for dinner and that was awful. I was very disappointed in the quality of food. The bacon is thin very fatty, the lettuce wilty, the eggs taste like the fake eggs they are etc. Even the toast is not crispy and fresh. My biggest issues were with the quality of food, overworking of staff and going to Jamaica as a port. Our Steward Jose was great. But Carnival only does once a day service... they used to do twice. I asked Jose if it was possible to do twice a day and he explained that he is assigned 38 rooms and it isnt possible to clean them all twice a day and half get service in the morning and half in the evening. You have to choose. I think that amount of work is crazy! He was running and working 12 hours a day. Our ports of call were Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel. Jamaica was my only issue. People there are so aggressive. We went to the Doctor's Cave Beach to relax. The taxi people first of all charge $8 a person to take you there one way. They try to take you hostage in a way and by high pressuring you to go for a tour around the city. If you say no, they act you like you will be abandoned. Once we got settled... people asking to sell you things... even in the water. They literally sit there in the water and act like they are customers and then when you get close, they pop up and begin selling you things. The wait staff at the Doctors' Beach are very possessive. I was asking another server a question and my server came and shooed them away and reminded me that I was her customer! We went to look at a few shops before we headed back to the beach. My kids were all asked if they wanted to smoke pot. Lots of pressure and we left quickly with another high pressure taxi driver. I could not get back on the ship fast enough. Grand Cayman was gorgeous with its turquoise waters and white sand beaches. Cozumel is always a fabulous time. We did Chankanaab in Cozumel and I would highly recommend it. We did a Carnival Excursion at Grand Cayman- the Amazing Snorkel, Stingray and Starfish experience. It was great except we were soooo hungry when we left. They should feed you at least a snack. But the Excursion was good. I just wish our tour driver would not have been on his cell phone while driving and telling us about the culture and life on the island. The entertainment was not good. Off key singing and so so dancing. I was not impressed. The comedy people were not even funny. I tried walking out of one comedian. She sat the entire time and lectured the group about her family issues. Not even funny. I was afraid of being yelled at by her so I suffered through her spiel. The best entertainers were the 3 ladies who played violin or stringed instruments. Now that was great. The water was very choppy every day except for the last day. I walked like I was drunk the entire cruise! All in All I had a great time. I was with my family for Christmas creating memories. Warm sun and sandy beaches. I love doing Cruises but I choose Carnival because of the price. I think from now on I will save up more money (or not take kids) and try a better quality of cruise. Carnival has just cut too many corners for me. Read Less

We went to the Carnival Dream last dec 23rd from New Orleans to r West Caribbean is pretty ok,But still I would not suggest to pick this for the following reasons. 1) Stateroom bed has urine smells on the first day with stinky due to Ocean View room. Later they fixed after complaining by changing bedsheets etc, So I suggest go for balcony when you pick any other ship. 2) I am in FWD, the cruise is pretty shaky compared to my last DISNEY DREAM, Kids got irritated with this. 3) food/entertainment is ok , 7/10, fitness and SPA is very good. 4) Ports are very good had fun. 5) My major dissapointment with the pictures, they took 170 pictures and they are to charge it individually at 21.99 per picture, which ended up 4000$ which is equal to my OCEAN room for 7 days and 2Adults and 2Kids price, what a RIP OFF here, I had lot of pain and time spent to deal with this ended up getting 45pics and spened 900$ ( I really felt very bad at this moment , my heart broke on this RIP OFF DESIGN) our family pics and memories ended up in a thrash where it is not useful even to them after they spend a lot of time, I am making sure that no one should turn back with this simple single issue as you will end up leaving all your beatuful pics in thrash, waiste of time.No way you can get all the pics back, they have a very good photographers with nice background designs, but useless of time we/photographers spent for 120 pictures at the END, very stupidly they designed this program which I havent saw in any other cruise line. I will make sure atleast another 1000-2000 families and the organizations and community groups which I belong too will not give business to carnival. 6) Looks they dont know how to please a customer and get a repeated business from the customer and WORD OF MOUTH effect, which customer is going to give them 10/10 after such a stupid design,If they are greedy they can make a package 500$ or 1000$ and give back their pictures to the CUSTOMER FAMILY, The design they make is even crossing the greedy line, I think customer can tolerate the GREEDY BUSINESS but none of the customers will turn back if they plan RIP OFF.they name it DREAM, go for disney dream and see the difference you will vote for 10/10. My partner and I were very excited to travel on one of Carnival’s larger, “newer” ships. Our first cruise was Carnival Conquest in May 2017. This was a disappointment for both of us compared to Conquest. Dream seemed too large for its crew to cope with. Service was severely impersonal, though most crew was at least cordial. At embarkation, a person who I assume works for Carnival at the port of New Orleans was on a microphone trying to direct people, demanded to see my boarding pass over her microphone and chastised me for being behind another guest over the microphone to the entire queue of people outside. I was pretty embarrassed by her awful attitude. Then no porters were around to take our luggage that we could find. Microphone lady rushed us inside and we had to carry our suitcases on and wait with them for about 1.5 hours on in both the crowded boarding area and deck 3 before we could get our stateroom. Maintenance in certain areas like decks and pools was handled by one person in any area it appeared, so a lot of time elapsed between cleanings or upkeep. Only the port side Serenity deck whirlpool was “hot” for the entire cruise. The aft starboard whirlpool was temperate, and every other whirlpool was about 90° or lower. In the dining room, we were often left without certain items on the table and had to ask for the wait team to bring them to us, meals were badly cooked (very tough, over cooked prime rib one night), but we did have two really great servers on different teams. Upon returning to the ship at our last port, our cabin door’s lock died and couldn’t read our S&S cards. Guest services had to replace them, and then we returned when that didn’t work, and maintenance had to change batteries and reprogram twice, as first maintenance still had us locked out later when we left the room. Shows were fine. Only the 80’s Pop To the Max was outstanding, though. The cast couldn’t seem to stay on key in the other shows we went to. The comedians were pretty funny in the adult shows most nights, but the Burgundy lounge has many “blind spots,” where you can’t see the stage, so get there 30 minutes early for a decent seat. The laundry facility was alright for washing ($3, drying is free). The ironing boards and irons were a bit confusing and felt cheap/shoddy. Another guest had to give us a tip on how to use the iron as there were no instructions. For good things: air in the cabin worked well. A couple cool nights we had to use the heater for, and warm nights the AC worked fine. The cabin was good sized, and felt about as big as our interior cabin on Conquest, and bathroom was the same. Disembark was so much better than off Conquest in May 2017! Breezed right out through Customs with a quick check of ID’s. Our cruise director Alex was GREAT! Very friendly and fun. Always nice to see him around the ship when we were walking around. We didn’t do the LGBT mixer, but guests and staff we met seemed mostly friendly with us as a gay couple. So I would say it was an LGBT friendly environment. Read Less

We chose the cruise because it best fit our schedule with it sailing over the holiday break. But, I was taken back by so many things. The concern is with the passengers for the most part but I think Carnival can take better control. I want to start by stating the service by those that work for Carnival was good! Our cabin steward (Henry) our waiters at dinner (Greg, Vicxon, and Aleksandra) were great! Now the other matters - waiting for guests to arrive for muster drill, children throwing ice on people from upper decks, dirty plates of food left on stairs, people yelling from balconies to other ships when docked; and last but not least the dress for dinner in dining room especially on cruise elegant night (I know we don't have to dress formally but) shorts and flip flops are now allowed. This ship is nicely laid out and I liked the earth tone decor, even if it is a bit dated. Food was okay. Dining room dinners were not great and they serve all the same food in the Lido each evening so if you want to skip dinner, you can eat the same food upstairs. The Lido buffet was the typical gluttonous mass of humanity that it usually is so I tried to avoid it as much as possible. Here are some options: Sandwich bar on Lido.- Very good but usually long lines. Wok bar on Lido- I was told it was very good, but I never was able to catch it without 20 people in line so I never ate there. Pasta Bar on Lido- Tried it twice. Couldn't eat it either time. Bland, over cooked pasta. Burger Bar at pool: Excellent. Best ship burgers we've had. Burrito Bar at pool: Okay. Edible, but not great. 24 hour pizza : Best I've had on any ship so don't miss out on this Sushi Bar: Best deal in the house. For a small extra cost, you can get awesome tempura rolls. They had a small menu, but everything was excellent and you can sit and be served like a civilized person. Pig Guy Pork: Only open on sea days and the line was always so long that I never tried it, but on the last day, I walked by just before closing time and was able to taste the pork and Mac and Cheese. It was okay, but I''m glad I never bothered to wait for it. I had 2 dining room meals and wasn't too impressed with either so I never went back and it takes a long time to get served. Breakfast in the dining room- Best eggs benedict and Vanilla French toast on any ship. It's not fast, but it's nice and civilized and the breakfast was excellent. One thing I was surprised about was that the floor in the Lido buffet area is tile and gets very slick when wet, which it was due to the warm, muggy air. I almost fell twice and saw others slipping as they walked. I'm just surprised they would have a hazard like that. Casino- loved it except it's always very cold in there. Lots of smokers but they all sit at the bar so not the best place if smoke bothers you. Shows: Typical cruise shows. One was okay, one was boring. Entertainment: The live band was very good but the best was the 3 violinists who played rock songs on their violins. They are probably the best entertainment we've ever seen on this class of ship. We were mesmerized by their music. The disco was okay. The DJ was willing to take requests but didn't really engage with the customers. The Trivia was pretty good. The service on the ship was excellent. The bartenders, wait staff, room steward, were all very friendly and accommodating. Some of the casino dealers were a bit boring...never a smile and no personality, but most were okay. We did not so any excursions and the weather was a bit cold and cloudy so no water activities this time, but Costa Maya and Cozumel are always nice to visit. We got a massage at the port in both places and really enjoyed that. I would say my biggest disappointment on this ship was the other passengers. There were just so many rude, pushy, unfriendly, ignorant people. No common courtesy. People eating in the buffet line, leaving food all over the place, talking loud during the musical performance, saving seats during shows, pushing and shoving during the sales, babies in diapers in the jacuzzi. So gross!!! I will never cruise from New Orleans again, but this is not Carnival's fault. As far as value for money...you get what you pay for. I would say this is a lower end ship. Good for a get away, but don't expect to be wowed by the ship or the food and you'll be okay. Embarkation/Debarkation was flawless. Easy and quick on both ends. The people at the port were also very friendly and helpful. Read Less

We wanted a cruise after hurricane season, and to sail from a port near us.We had only been on one other really "big" Carnival ship ( The Pride). The atrium was beautiful. And the decor was fabulous, but there was an offensive odor throughout the ship that just would not go away. Our cabin steward and his staff was great. The room stayed cool just like we like it. The staff, as a whole, seemed very stressed and over worked ( they always had a smile and hello for you, but something seemed off, from stewards to the dining staff). My teens enjoyed this cruise better than last one, there were more "Southern talking" teens like themselves. I was still not pleased with the activities offered for teens to do, and I do have a few suggestions, but will save those for Carnival. All in All, out of the 6 Carnival cruises we have done, we like the smaller ships. Read Less

Where do I start over all the cruise itself was very relaxing and laid-back and I got to see some very beautiful views of several countries but as far as the ship itself it was very very very underwhelming I did not get what I was expecting overall in terms of fun entertaining the food was lacking it can best be described as a step above getting Shoney's I ended up eating a lot of cereal ice cream and hamburgers because I was not satisfied with any of the food on the ship I went to dinner and got a shrimp cocktail that was served in a bowl the shrimp were overcooked they were very small and I was just not satisfied with the taste I felt so bad for the workers on the ship they do not look happy which in turn made me feel like I was causing their unhappiness by being there the people were nice on the ship but they did not make me feel like I was having a once-in-a-lifetime experience this was my first cruise everyone who's been on a cruise before has brag to me about the experience I should have with the food with the service the fun with the entertainment and I didn't get anything that was described to me I really have to question whether or not I did the right thing to celebrate my honeymoon and my husband and I's birthday I was very very disappointed with what I thought was going to be an awesome experience the main thing was the food was just not goodalso I left the ship with just thinking all they wanted to do was get as much money out of you as they could they wanted to sell you everything it was all about money money money and I just wish that I could have had a better experience I would have gladly spent more money if I had something worth spending it on Read Less

This was a family cruise and having already been on the DREAM 2 other times, I knew what to expect. The Dream is my favorite ship, in all her beauty. I have waited 4 days to write this review as I left extremely upset on debarkation day, Sun 10/21/18. I will start with what upset me terribly first- When our #30 group were called to disembark, we walked towards the elevators and as I was about to push the button, the elevators ALL shut down. An announcement came over the intercom in broken English, that the elevators were not to be used, that all remaining cruisers would have to use the stairs. We had carry on luggage that we would have to carry down the stairs. My husband came out of the bathroom and stated that the water had also been cut off that he was unable to wash his hands. This was 11:40 am. I am unable to do stairs because of major health issues, so this upset me terribly. I picked up the phone and called guest services stating that I could not do the stairs with my luggage and the person on the other end apologized. That's all I got! Also, AFTER we managed to do the stairs, My husband's passport was flagged so another delay. It's funny it was NOT flagged on Embarkation day. Here's My Bullet List of Concerns with Carnival: 1- The $5 Chat APP did not function. Error code 90% of time was Service Declined 2-Miscellaneous charges on my bill daily, requiring me to go to Guest Services 3-Room Stewards & Security were not knowledgable on the disembarkation luggage tags 4-Hot Tubs were not HOT, nor jets working on Days Sun - Tues. I finally found one on Wed that was working properly 5-Fine Dining Room Waiters were not personal at all. I'm used to them greeting you by name. Spoke very little to us. 6-Husband grabbed a serving utensil to spoon out food and the buffet server snatched the pan right out from under him, and said, "Buffet Closed" This was uncalled for. 7-Could NOT understand any intercom announcements...Broken English 8-The Trivia games I so much enjoy were not fun. The facilitator did not speak loud enough...not much motivation for the games 9-The gratuities used to be warranted when your room stewards made your bed more than once a day, and the towel animals were unique. I was able to compare our towel animals with a fellow cruiser. Ours were as if a 5 year old did them. This may seem trivial, but as a cruiser, this is part of that unique service you should get for the extreme amounts of gratuities that Carnival demands you pay. 10-Drinks very weak and expensive. Not much alcohol in them. 11-and.....DRUM ROLL.......My new luggage is missing a wheel. Carnival broke my luggage 12- I am cancelling my May 11, 2019 Cruise already booked since last summer 2017. I am going to forfeit my deposit. 13- GOOD BYE CARNIVAL Read Less

We sailed on the Carnival Dream this past week. . The reason for my review is to help someone else who may be looking at cabin 7398 or others in that area. In and around this cabin there is a strong odor that smells like sewage. The smell hits you as you walk down the hall starting around cabin 7374 and smells very strong until about cabin 7408. Sadly this smell also permeated inside the two cabins we booked on that hall, 7398 being one of them. On port days the smell was even stronger. If we were on the ship on port days we could not stay in our cabin, it was awful. When we first boarded the ship the smell in the hall and cabin was immediate. My hope was that it would go away once we sailed but it did not. I brought a Bath & Body wallflower and it didn’t even help to cover the smell. This being a balcony room my thought was “at least we will get some fresh air sitting outside”. Wrong... This balcony is located right above the smoking lounge are two decks below. Even with the breeze from the ships movement you will still smell cigarette smoke. It may not bother some but it just wasn’t what I expected. Overalll the ship was nice, our room steward was great, dining staff could’ve been a bit more attentive. We didn’t always get what we ordered, glasses were often empty and food was subpar. We ate at the steakhouse one evening. I personally wouldn’t do it again on this ship. Again, food was subpar and service was terrible. I’ve had better steakhouse experiences on other Carnival ships. Again, the main reason for this review is to put the word out there about the room smell. I would’ve like to have know this before selecting our rooms. Read Less

My wife and I had this cruise scheduled and a hurricane named Harvey changed our itinerary for us. This was also the only cruise on the Dream we had not sailed as anyone that has looked at our profile of cruises will see and our 5th on the Dream. Liked Carnivals new embarkation board with boarding pass, sail and sign card in mail box by cabin door and we love the Cove Balconies on deck 2. The Glory nor the Valor have cove balconies so that will be missed. The entertainment had the best vocals of any of our Carnival cruises since Chris Williams moved on. One of the dancers, Josh looked a lot like Shelton Cooper (Big Bang Theory) The service was fantastic with the exception of the Dream Steakhouse.(read below) Ports and excursions we do not do, mobility problems and to far from soft-serve machine. Son and his wife and their two boys going with us in November all riding the City of New Orleans. First of all this is not a rant against Carnival more of an observation in general and particular this one cruise that I hope will be just a one of. We have two more cruises scheduled on the Dream in November 2018 and Feb. 2019 then sadly the Dream moves to Galveston in May 2019. Now the rest of the story! My reasoning for the claim of (Profit Gouging). 1. Onboard credit has changed from per person to just cabin in other words we would get 25.00 for my wife and 25.00 for me onboard credit booking a 7 day cruise, now just 25.00 for the cabin booked. 2. Gratuity on top of gratuity, I know that a lot of people don't tip any extras and some shame on them do not tip at all. Carnival does charge gratuities either on the front of the cruise or the back of the cruise now another gratuity is added to every sail and sign purchase. My wife and I tip in cash (room service, bar etc.). 3. It could just be me, but appeared to be less staff causing longer wait time and confusion, this also could be for profit over comfort. Now for my one and only big complaint and the end of steak house dinning. We always eat at the Dream Steakhouse our first night and loved it until this cruise. Arrived at Steakhouse at 6:00 PM table for 4 seated and ordered our drinks, all four ordered steak baked potatoes and salad and that's exactly what we got. At 6:45 our steaks arrived, I was about full from all the bread and butter eaten while I was waiting. Halfway through the steak about 7:00 our baked potatoes arrived and at the end of our steak you guess it our salads arrived and my wife's salad wasn't what she ordered. Read Less

Port in driving distance and desired ports of call. Food definitely not what it is to be. Did by go hungry, but nothing to write home about. Steakhouse food was amazing, but service could have been much better. Staff in general was ok.... Definitely standouts, but majority was just there for a check.... Or so it seemed. They like to tell you not to bring drugs on board from ports ..... But enough people did that it was completely obvious I could have carried anything on board. Won't be traveling the dream anymore.... Ready for a nice, more to to date ship. Faster to the fun was a waste of money ... We received no benefits other than or luggage was delivered slightly earlier than normal. No priority services at all. Save your money for the steakhouse or a fabulous excision in port or shopping in Port. Overall decent cruise but nothing spectacular. Read Less

After attending a nephew’s wedding in MS this was a very convenient port for us to cruise from. This was the first time during August after seven previous cruises. We had previously done one in early July on RC Empress of the Seas, 4 during Spring Break with our children on RC, and 2 in early May after college classes were done for the year but before public schools were out. One of these was on RC and the other on Carnival. Two of the cruises sailed from Ft. Lauderdale, and the others had all been from Galveston. Embarkation was the fastest we have ever experienced but we boarded the latest that we ever had too. We were able to walk straight to our cabin and leave the carry ons before heading to the Lido for lunch. Luggage was delivered shortly after returning from the safety demonstration. We had the late dining time and ate in the dining all but two evenings. Service was just average and the same could be said for the food quality. We did try Bella Pasta for lunch one day but once again it was just average. We did like Guy’s hamburgers and BBQ as well as the Blue Iguana. We stayed on the ship in Montego Bay and enjoyed a quieter ship that day, we toured the turtle farm in Grand Cayman through an Carnival excursion that included lunch. We had booked Nachi Cocum for Cozumel and also enjoyed that. We have been there 3 times now and the service did seem a little off this time but a good time was still had. We only attending one show during the cruise and it was good. Due to late dining time it was hard to be back in time to attend the shows. We did watch several movies on the big screen and as always enjoyed those. We stayed in a Cloud 9 Balcony stateroom so we enjoyed the spa most every day and also worked out in the fitness center every day. We never had any issues with machines being busy. We did self assist debarkation and were off of the ship very quickly. We had parked in Fulton Parking Garage so we had a short wait to get a shuttle to the garage. Only one person could get the car and bring it down to have the luggage loaded so that process also took a little time. Not sure we would use them again just because of the additional time that it took for the shuttle and then the loading process. We will not plan on sailing again during a time that many children will be on board. It was amazing to us how many of them were running around at all hours and with little respect for others. Overall it was the much needed break that we needed from a very busy year. Read Less

The Good - - Staff are still friendly and try their best (except for Guest Services). - Guy's and other specialty restaurants are open on port days. - New embarkation procedures are faster, with your key card premade in your mailbox. - The Indian Tandoori restaurant is pretty authentic and very tasty. Maybe too spicy for most people. - Shows have been upgraded with digital screens. The Bad - - The cruise line has made additional cuts on it's budget. High Tea no longer offers six free tea flavors... they offer two free flavors and six for $2 (big price gouging). Cabins no longer have bathroom amenities, extra pillows/blankets, or bathrobes. - Although they still call it 'Guy Fieri's Burgers'.. Carnival has totally abandoned his recipes. They no longer season the beef, they do not use a garlic aioli, and they do not steam the burgers with chicken broth. End result is bland burgers that have nothing to do with Fieri, and on two occasions the meat smelled 'turned' like the hamburger had gone brown. - Guy's Smokehouse is probably about the worst BBQ I have ever tasted. Avoid it. - I had three contacts with Guest Services...two were just questions. All three times I was treated (tone of voice and words used) like I was putting an unnecessary burden on them. - The 'American Feast' menu continues to be a budget cut and fiasco. Especially on Elegant Night. It took half an hour to get an appetiser and half an hour to get the entree. Looking around I noticed that no one in Flexible Dining had food.. as the kitchen was pushing all food to the Fixed Dining Room attempting to keep up and finish before the 8pm sitting. Read Less

We chose this cruise mainly due to the week it was traveling. We enjoyed the ship, although apparently smoking is now allowed everywhere, or the smoking sections were just not enforced, that was not pleasant as we spent our time trying to escape the smokers. The water slide was also out of commission for a little while during repairs and the movie screened had a large glowing 1 in the upper left hand corner which was distracting sometimes. The stops were nice with our favorite being Cozumel. We did a "Swim with the Dolphins" excursion is Cozumel and a Wildlife and Zoo Safari in Belize, our guide in Belize was exceptional. She was very knowledgeable and friendly and truly seemed to enjoy her work. That excursion was over 6 hours long though and my teenage daughter was upset there was no time for shopping. The port in Mahogany Bay is very nice. It was pouring down rain that day so we didn't go further than the port. The people on the Dream are all very friendly. Our cabin steward Ayu was wonderful. Our cabins were on Deck 12 the spa deck and unfortunately by the outside door. There were lots of kids running in and out of the door all hours of the night and running on the deck right above us. This made sleeping difficult. The cruise director Lee did a great job keeping everyone entertained. His co-host Olivia also did a great job. We never ate in the formal dining rooms as we do not liked to get "dressed up" for dinner while on vacation. Guys burgers are good and the pizza is phenomenal. The buffet is average, probably a lot like a Golden Coral here in the South part of the U.S. My largest complaint are the fees. I think Carnival fees you every time you turn around so that you are paying for the crews salary. Every time you use your sail and sign card there was an automatic %15 gratuity added, didn't matter what is was for. Then we we received our statement there were qty 4 $90.65 charges for gratuities. I called and requested they remove those charges but was told it is "Corporate policy to charge everyone over the age of 2 that fee." This is Ridiculous, especially given how much the cruise cost, the gratuities you are charged when you use your Sail & Sign card and given that we tipped cash to those employees who assisted us. I hope every cruise line doesn't add those extra fees. Because I think we need to find a different one. Read Less
