Halloween on the Carnival Dream is always a great time. Scarlett Dining room crew were wonderful, food delicious, service great. Cruise director Jase also good. Interior room on lido was convenient and cool with great 1x day morning service-our choice. Room steward was awesome. Good entertainment, loved the spa & serenity area. We will be back next year! Husbands enjoyed their Carnival excursion golfing in Cozumel. All of us enjoyed the private cabana rental in Mahogany Bay Roatan. We did not leave ship in Belize due to rain and no desire to see Belize. We did not use casino at all, enjoyed the mini golf. The Halloween festivities were great and we enjoyed the party. Only made it to 1 show-Dancing in the Streets which had been updated and was enjoyable. We do wish that Carnival would go back to a regular talent show for guests instead of Legends show which is getting stale & old as "singers" never change. All in all a great time!!!! Read Less

The Dream is a great ship compared to my last cruise on the Fasanation. The staff as always were fantastic. I'm amazed out how hard they work and they should be tipped well for all that they do each and everyday! No real complaints other than I wish Carnival was like Princss and offered surf and turf at dinner without the additional cost. I think we pay enough for the cruise to have steak and lobster anytime we want at dinner. I booked all of my excursions on my own. I booked three excursions at three different ports for the price of one on Carnival. Just make sure you read their reviews and make sure they have good ones and a guarantee to get you back to port! Th ship offers plenty of entertainment for all ages. If you ever stop in Belize make sure you check out Butts Up Cave Tubing and book with them. They are top notch and have your tubes waiting on you ready at the tubing site. All the other companies that I saw made the people carry their own tubes. Read Less

This was our second cruise on the Dream. If you like big ships and lots of people then this is the ship for you. Can't imagine the size of the new Vista which is already out and the Horizon which will be out soon. I think I will concentrate on Carnival's smaller ships for future cruises. We were excited by the ports of call for this cruise; Cozemel, Belize, and Roartan. Visited these ports on a previous cruise but were anxious about the different excursions booked. Embarkation was somewhat unorganized especially in light of the fact that Carnival has instituted a check-in window for passengers. We had purchased the Faster to the Fun package and arrived at the port around 11:00. Checked in and got our sign and sail cards and then sat in the terminal for another hour and a half before being allowed to board. This is the first time out of the past three cruises that we purchased the FTF and didn't get right on the ship. As a good will gesture Carnival is going to refund out money. Excellent customer service. Food and service were way beyond that which we experienced last year on the same ship. Kudos to Carnival for listening to comments that I sent them concerning both of there areas. We chose any time dining for the first time and were happy we did. We had the good fortune of getting a great service team in the Crimson dining room led expertly by Frank. We made sure that we were in his section every night we dined. We had reserved a table in the Steak House for Monday night but Frank alerted us that there would be steak and lobster in the regular dining room that night. We changed our reservation to Saturday. One of the highlights of our dining experience was the Chef's table. We got a tour of the galley and were treated to an eight course meal prepared by the Chef de Cuisine D'Silva. His team made the night memorable. If you have the opportunity to have to take this tour. It costs $75.00 per person but is worth every penny., Cozemel: Went zip lining with beach resort. Fun time but very tiring climbing up the steep ladders to get to the lines. The beach resort was very nice and coupons for food and drinks were included with the price of the excursion. Belize: Took the cave tube with lunch excursion. Very long bus ride to the excursion site. At least the bus was air conditioned. Got our tubes and head gear and off to the river. Word of warning: the water is very very cold. Took some pictures and crossed the river and began a 25 minute hike to the start of the tubing experience. Another word of caution: wear thick water shoes. The entire hike was over lots of rocks and very hard on the feet. Lunch that was included was very good. Roartan: Here is where we deviated from booking the Carnival excursion. My buddy and I decided to golf at the Black Pearl and the wives got a day pass to the Pristine Bay Resort. We saved over $100 dealing directly with the golf course rather than booking with Carnival. Even though Carnival guarantees the lowest price we would have had to book with them first and then present a receipt to get reimbursed. Too much of a hassle. For those golf nuts this a must play course. Very hilly but adequate landing areas and generous greens. If you tend to spray the golf ball best you bring lots of them with you. Counted maybe 12 other golfers during our stay and the wives reported they were the only ones at the resort. We spent every free night on the cruise in the comedy club. The comics were extraordinary and presented both mature and pg shows. A special thank you to Carnival for their military appreciation programs that were presented our three different occasions. As a retired Navy Chief it was great to be recognized. In addition we were fortunate to have a WWII vet onboard. His stories were amazing to say the least. Another kudo to Carnival for their Groove for St Jude t-shirt sales. Every penny they collect goes directly to the St Jude Children's hospital. Read Less

I was rewarded with a balcony room for my family of 4 from my company for my hard work the year before. We loved how accommodating Dream was in getting us all chances to hang out as a group. With 4 ppl in a cabin I highly recommend a balcony. It's like having a waiting room when we want to get ready. Order room service for breakfast and set it up on the balcony! We also brought a shoe caddy and hung it on the back of the bathroom door to keep the bathroom clean and organized. The dining staff in the main hall was so entertaining! They even helped us get up on the tables to dance one night. Where else can you do that? My daughter always enjoys tea times. Getting to be a little fancy and try some new treats. Where do I start? Probably the best vacation ever!!! We cruised on the Carnival Dream leaving New Orleans on Sunday, October 9th. It was me, my husband, our daughter and son-in-law, and our three grandkids; ages 14, 10, and 4. We drove to New Orleans on Friday the 7th and stayed at the Prytania Hotel. With a two night stay there they allowed us to leave our cars there during the cruise. This is an old Hotel, but so much fun to stay at. The people at the front desk were very nice and helpful. The rooms were dated, but just added to the character. It was very convenient to restaurants. We could walk to the Blind Pelican and to Tacos & Beer. It was a lot of fun. Since it was the beginning of the baseball playoffs we had to be in a sports bar each evening to watch the Cubs play (my son-in-law's favorite team). GO CUBS!!!! And, yes, they did win the World Series. Talk about celebrating. Easy to find a sports bar with the game on. On Saturday we took the grandkids on the trolley (which the two youngest ones loved - the 14 year old... well he's 14 years old??. We took the two youngest ones to the Aquarium (a must in New Orleans if you have never done it.) And we also took them on the Ferry to Algiers. We ate lunch at the Dry Dock, which in and of itself was a great experience. Food was very good and people watching was very interesting. Now to the cruise... we took an Uber from the Hotel to the port ($5.00). We were to board between 10:30 and 11:00. We boarded right on time with no hassle. My husband and I are Platinum members so we were first onboard with our oldest grandson (he lucked out since he was booked in our cabin). However, the rest of our family was probably no more than ten minutes behind us. Plenty of places to eat lunch. Try not to hit the buffet; rather go to one of the other venues for lunch since they get very crowded during the week as everyone discovers how great they are. We explored the ship. Our luggage arrived on time and we were able to unpack before we had to do the mandatory muster call. We had two cabins with balconies very close to each other. So we never knew which grandkids we would have sleeping with us each night. In fact, they were in and out all day and night. (Just added to the fun.) We were only able to get the Cubs game one night on the T.V. The other games had to be viewed through WiFi. We only got the score and play by play, but that was still a lot of fun. We did a lot of celebrating on the ship. On sea days we spent most of our time at the water slides or PuttPutt as the two youngest grandkids loved that area. I can say that our 14 year old did go down the slides with his brother several times and did play PuttPutt with his little sister several times. He is a good big brother. All three of them must have hit the ice cream machines at least five times a day. I have to admit... I did too. We had any time dining, which worked out great for us. We probably hit the main dining room four times during the week. Always got seated as soon as we got there (even with seven of us). The food... well it was hit or miss. Some nights was great; some nights not so good. The few nights we ate at the buffet for dinner was not very good at all. Was very disappointed in the buffet. Not very many choices and the food was usually cold. However, the buffet was good for breakfast. Of course, with grandkids we used room service every night.. and I do mean every night. We would get a movie on the T.V. and order room service. It was me and the grandkids... the other three adults didn't come back to the cabins until around midnight and the grandkids were asleep by then. Our first Port was Montego Bay. We had previously made arrangements to do the all inclusive at the Sea Garden Resort, which was a great choice. Cab ride there was $7.00 per person. It had its own private beach (no vendors ever bothered us). Drinks were plentiful and the food was great. Jerk chicken was amazing!!! Grandkids had never had this before and they loved it. It is very near the Airport so planes passed right over our heads and we could see them landing. Pretty neat. They had a kayak, which the grandkids loved. We were also able to jump the cliffs (well they weren't really cliffs, but they were pretty far above the water). The scenery at the Sea Garden was unbelievable. The water was so clear and blue and the mountains in the distance were so pretty. Took some great pictures there. Was a little hesitant about getting off the boat in Montego Bay with our grandkids after reading reviews; however, we felt perfectly safe at the Sea Garden and would not hesitate to go again. Highly recommend it. Our second Port was Grand Cayman. Here we rented two Jeeps from Andy's Car Rental. Husband and son-in-law took the bus into town to pick them up and came back to pick us up. Jeeps were really nice (brand new). We drove all over the island. Scenery was breathtaking. We stopped at Rum Point for lunch, which was very good. Well worth the drive to get there. We returned the Jeeps and still had time to shop before boarding the ship. Even though we had to tender in Grand Cayman, it was no problem. In fact, the grandkids loved it. However.... be prepared for a long line to get a tender back. Last Port was Cozumel. Here we did the all-inclusive at Nachi Cocum (which we have done several times before). Well worth the money. Beach was beautiful; food was great; drinks were plentiful. They have a very nice pool if you prefer not to sit at the beach all day. Here we got to jump off the end of the pier. Lots of fun. My husband and the two grandsons also went snorkeling here and saw so many fish. The grandsons said that was the highlight of their cruise. They had never done that before. My granddaughter and I sat on the pier and watched them go out and saw how excited they got when they saw fish. They also saw a lot of stingrays sitting on the bottom. The last day at sea we spent most of the day at the slides again. But that was O.K. We loved seeing our grandkids have so much fun and knowing that we were able to give them this wonderful experience was truly a blessing. We took our own bags off the ship the next morning and were back in our cars by 7:30 and headed home. CAN'T WAIT TO DO IT ALL AGAIN!!! Read Less

Very friendly and gracious. The food was delicious, shrimp cocktails, salmon cakes, ceasar salads, prime rib and the lobster tails were great!! We had so many romantic quiet evenings. I didn't think we would like the dive in theater but it was a great way to relax watching Batman snuggled in a blanket. The serinity area was great for sunning and having a pina colada. Show in the encore theater was fancy and enjoyable!! The dream was magnificent!!! I cannot wait to go again!!!! 5 stars and the towel animals were lovely.(husband also misses pizza pirate!!!!!) Excursions : Deluxe beach catamaran and snorkel in Cozumel cannot be missed!!! This crew is very professional and fun!!!! I read so many reviews about bad snorkeling groups, i was worried. Fury Catamaran was the best!!! CARNIVAL DREAM WAS A TOTAL DREAM!!! This was the first cruise my husband went on with me and I was worried cruising would not be for him but he is already planning our next one! We had a WONDERFUL experience and love carnival and the dream. I am a picky eater and I loved most of the food. There are so many options if you don't like your meal get another one! Our balcony room was awesome and our room steward WOW... Ivan is amazing- He treated us like royalty and I sure hope we see him again on the dream. His supervisor also was great. When we called him or maintenance they were super fast to make our stay perfect. Our cabin was perfect my first balcony experience and that is what we want for all of our future cruises. The layout of the ship was easy to figure out, the beds super comfy, easy on and off the ship. Sure a bit of a wait but who cares it is expected when you have 3000+ people. We did not opt for the drink package but tried a few tropical drinks all tasty. We did anytime dining and loved it. I tried the $40 day spa package one day for the special pool and saunas etc...and it was not for me. Others might enjoy it just a personal preference. We did not do any of the shows but they looked great. We just enjoyed relaxing, sleeping in, eating, tanning, excursions, and forgetting about anything off the dream! Hubby tried the casino he liked it. I am allergic to smoke so I could not go in there. The 2 issues we had were one there was another balcony smoking near us which is not allowed but the dream staff took care of it. There are places to smoke but the balconies do not allow it but that is known before booking. The staff followed up with us and took care of everything THEY ROCK! The second thing might have been our fault not sure but on the first dressy night hubby wore dress shorts and they turned us away. He did not bring any pants its a cruise we thought shorts daily so not sure if its our own fault but that was a bummer having to miss lobster night would have been nice if they could make an exception since he did not bring pants or least let us get dinner to go. Those 2 issues did not take away from our great vacation at all. One thing I would have liked is more sun protection like umbrellas especially on the serenity deck. We did an excursion at each port. Cozumel top 10 things this one has potential but it was too long it could have been cut down supposed to be 5 hours but after 4 hr 45 min I got off the bus and took a taxi back and got a massage while hubby finished with the group. I would not recommend this tour because it was long and hot but did have some good points. We also did the top 10 things in Jamaica and it was much better. Nikki the tour guide was perfect, funny, knew the area super well, and very entertaining. In Cayman we did an all inclusive of 7 mile beach and really enjoyed that whole day beautiful water! The staff on the dream are super friendly and helpful. Sure not 100% perfect but the majority were great and made us feel at home. We loved our cruise and can not wait until we are on another or the same carnival ship - eastern carribean here we come :) Read Less

We chose this cruise primarily due to timing as we only had two weeks to choose from. We booked a Cove Balcony for the first time and loved it. The staff on the ship was outstanding as usual. I will try to post a longer review under the message boards sometime in the next couple of weeks. Here is a super quick overview: Embarkation was super smooth. We were on the ship well before noon and with FTTF, in our staterooms right away. Stateroom was clean and orderly. We had one issue that was fixed very quickly by the staff. Port days were great and we loved each stop (even if we did get rained on in Cozumel!) Sea days were spent just hanging out. Kids enjoyed the water slides as did all of the adults in our group. Debarkation was the only headache, but that could have been less of an issue if we had just waited in a lounge a little longer. Overall, GREAT cruise and can not wait to book another! Read Less

We chose this one because it was a good price, plus seemed family friendly and we were taking our 12 year old granddaughter. We were extremely well pleased with the whole experience, however, we would suggest that you go to the city of departure a day or so ahead so that you can be well rested to begin your cruise. (And also check out the city). This was our first cruise and we weren't sure what to expect. Everyone was very friendly and helpful!! Our granddaughter was in the Circle C club for 12-14 yr. olds and not only had a great time, but we felt very comfortable that she was safe and enjoying her time- while we enjoyed some quiet adult time. We had a balcony that was wonderful to use for reading and admiring God's creation - I would highly recommend a balcony. Our granddaughter had been worried about sea sickness, but we hardly realized we were on a moving ship. I actually enjoyed the little bit of movement we felt on occasion (especially at night when I felt lulled to sleep). Everything was clean and if ever you needed something the Cabin Steward was right there with it. The food was wonderful and our waiters fantastic. We we were seated for the week with another couple who had brought their granddaughter and that was very enjoyable, plus the girls had a great time together and teasing with the waiters. They actually looked forward to the dining room dinner and were able to still get their pizza, or spaghetti and fries! I needed a specific diet for my heart and I was very pleased with my meals - not only that , but when I decided to veer off it slightly one night, the chef doubled checked to make sure I realized I was doing that. I think that is above & beyond great service & was pleased they took such good care! My birthday happened to fall within the week and I was serenaded, plus had my own little cake. When I returned to the room I had some special coupons waiting for me with a Happy Birthday card. It was great! We were able to enjoy room service bringing a pot of coffee and fruit every morning (loved it!). We enjoyed the shows and especially watching Star Wars on the deck!! Playing mini golf and relaxing in the whirlpool was great too!! Our excursions were fun. We toured Grand Cayman by bus visiting a turtle farm and by a boat with glass windows in the sides to see coral, fish and ship wrecks. On Cozumel we took an excursion by Fury Catamarans to snorkel, take a boat ride and spend time on a private beach with fun amenities, such as water inflatables, hammocks, beverages, food and sun lounging. I suffer from muscle weakness caused from taking Statin drugs to lower chloresterol, but didn't realize how bad it had gotten. The crew on this trip was wonderful!! I had some difficulty getting out of the water (I've always loved water and was determined to go in the beautiful Carribean, but didn't have anything to hang onto to get out - my husband was in another area at the time-) and immediately one of the crew was there to help me! Also while getting out of & back in the boat they took great care of me. I cannot say enough good things about it. I also got a great deal on a jacket & shirt we were able to buy there. The boat ride both ways was grand and they took pictures of our granddaughter snorkeling (even underwater). They also provided free beverages on the boat both going & coming back!! I would highly recommend this excursion!!! We were unhappy to see the cruise draw to a close, but felt very blessed and refreshed from our time on it!! I can say with all truthfulness that there was not one grumpy or unhelpful crew person the entire time (& that's something when you think of how many people they deal with continuously)!! We would definitely choose Carnival another time and also highly recommend it to others!! Read Less

We arrived in New Orleans the night before and enjoyed exploring the town. I recommend arriving the day before just to be sure you are at the port on time. Our embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly. Our Stateroom Steward, Marson, was more than helpful in solving our "broken shoe" issue. Both Guillero and Mario provided quick and entertaining meal experiences, in addition to Stephanie, who provided us with our evening dinning table. I enjoyed the shows tremendously and it was a vacation that I will never forget. Also got the chance to go on the Dolphin Encounter~that is not to be missed! I recommend the Carnival Dream to everyone who wants a nice relaxing yet adventurous holiday! EXCELLENT STAFF, SERVICE, CABIN, FOOD, ENTERTAINMENT.... Read Less

My family of 10 .. me, my parents, 3 adult children, son in law, 2 brothers and nephew (ages 9 thru 73) choose this cruise because of the itinerary and because New Orleans is a really neat place to cruise out of. We flew in from Arizona, Illinois and Cali. Embarkation was fine, fairly easy..although the port is really congested and traffic in NOLA is bad. We didn't care, we were about to get on a ship! Cruising down the Mississippi on day 1 is really fun..takes 6-7 hours to get to the ocean. Loved it. I wont go into every detail...but we had a blast because our family has fun together. Ship looked a bit worn in spots but generally was nice. The layout was better than other ships I've been on, easy to navigate. Entertainment: There was a band that played outside the casino that was awesome. Singers were great (had a horn section). DJ played great music in the club. I didnt go to the shows (i could hear them in my cabin haha..see cabin review) but my mom and nephew went and had fun. Didnt see the comedians. Karaoke was great. Went to a few dance lessons which was a blast. Pool area stuff was fun as usual, upbeat atmosphere and good music..Service around the pool was great. One morning the entire pool area and chairs were literally covered with towel animals..really cool. But...I HAVE to comment on this solo guitar act that was in the atrium all week..BUZZ KILL. I am sure Emma means well, but really!!! "Country Roads" by John Denver and every other folk song made more depressing than it already is? Not sure why they have her there. Very strange. Sorry Emma....I want to hear upbeat songs..I am on vacation!! Jase the cruise director seemed aloof and talked so fast during his announcements nobody understood anything he said. But we just ignored him anyway.. sorry Jase. Ports were beautiful. Cozumel (we went to Mr Sanchos..a blast!!) and Roatan ( we went to Little French Key..heaven) were incredible. Belize suffered a hurricane the week before we were there so our excursion was cancelled, (bummer) The port looked worned out and the poor trees were stripped. People were nice though. Warning..Belize requires a really long tender ride and an even longer wait in the lounge to get on (an hour) be prepared. Food in the dining room was good. Service was beyond good. Our waiters, Ikadek, Iwayan and Igede were incredible..will be letting Carnival know this! We were always made to feel special. Buffet was ok, the usual.(long lines, ok food) We didnt eat there much anyway. The indian food place was really good (near rear pool) and the pizza yummy, really good thin crust..never took too long. All in all the service was really great! From the bar staff, pool bars to our waiters..everyone really friendly. The only person that was bad was this front desk woman named Marina (spelling?) Very rude. whatever!! who cares, my family is easy going..didnt let it get to us. Debarkation was smooth. All in all we had a wonderful time...great trip and great memories...can't wait for our next cruise! Read Less

This was my 4th cruise, first on the Dream. Went on this cruise to help celebrate my sister n law wedding. Had a great time! First off I want to thank our deck server Edgar Rojas. He went over and beyond his duty to make sure our group of 20+ were taken care of! Our dinning staff was just as friendly and helpful along with the cabin attendant! Overall the cruise was great! The only suggestion would be for them to have more activities for the young at heart! Lets talk EXCURSIONS!! First stop was KEYWEST. We booked the ultimate adventure with the ship. That included water toys, jet skiing and parasailing. I usually do not book my excursions with the ship but this was the best one if you wanted to do all the above. I have to say it was pretty good! We all had a great time! Now for FREEPORT I booked with Chad4nature and let me tell you it was worth every penny! We were meet at port by Rudy, put on an air condition bus and was off on our journey to the east end of the island. Rudy is an encyclopedia of information, he shared the history and his love for the island on our trip. First stop was Bens bat cave, then we were off to a private beach where we meet up with Leroy and the kayaks. While Leroy took was kayaking and snorkeling over the blue holes and starfish hunting Rudy went get our lunch. Lunch was a choice of Lobster, conch, fish or chicken. I highly recommend this excursion! Last stop was NASSAU. I didn't want to do the reg. tourist thing so we booked a day on the Seahunt BAHAMA BOAT TOURS with CAPT. CARL. The BEST EVER!!! We spent the day with him and his son. They did whatever we asked plus some! We went fishing, then went SWIMMING WITH SEA TURTLES, snorkeling, hung out on a beach and tubing! While we were playing in the water Capt. Carl and his son were preparing and cooking the fish we caught! We loved our day with Capt. Carl. Read Less

This was our 1st cruise and we loved it. The staff were extremely helpful and very courteous. Every day after we got back from breakfast there was some sort of towel creature on our bed. If you want to really relax try a cruise, you won’t be sorry. My wife and I had the vacation of our lives and will definitely do it again. We had an ocean view cabin and it was more than enough room for two. I would recommend this over an interior room without any windows. The only drawback was having to go thru the casino which allows smoking and the lines to get food at the buffet. The food in the main dining areas was excellent quality with items such as lobster, filet of minion, crab cakes, etc. We drank soda on the ship and if you get the Endless Bubbles package for $50 it’s well worth it. They have plenty of thing to do on the ship like broad way type shows, comedy, bingo, swimming, whirlpools, slides, etc. We found that Carnival really pushed excursions, but you could have just as much fun doing things on your own. The best shopping by far was in Cozumel, everything was cheaper. Read Less

We chose this particular cruise because we wanted to see Jamaica, Grand Cayman and top it off with a visit to Tulum. We were also excited to sail out of New Orleans and cruise on the Mississippi River. We were late leaving port but that wasn't a big deal. It was a thrill to experience the 8 hour trek down the Delta towards the Gulf of Mexico. Our retaurant staff was excellent! Joseph (Sri Lanka), Putu (Indonesia) and Iputu (Indoensia) were on the ball and made our dining experience enjoyable and personable as we asked about their lives and families which they shared with us. We were lucky to have a private table which made the dining experience mush more intimate. The food was a little repetitive but what do you expect for an all inclusive tour? I find the option of Steakhouse for $40 a great alternative. Breakfast food was the same in the buffets but I don't feel how they could do much different than what is traditionally breakfast food. Dining at the restaurant for breakfast was a treat and the options were great. The corned beef hash was delicious as were the pancakes. Lunch fare was so so but when you're on the Lido Deck sunbathing and people watching fast, tasty and efficient is what you want so a burger, some fries and a lemonade were good enough for me. Port stops were just long enough to enjoy the port and see the local sites. We enjoyed shopping in the interior of Montego Bay and not the overpriced Hip Strip. We had a fabulous lunch at The Pelican near Margaritaville after enjoying Doctor's Cove Beach. In Grand Cayman we had a blast at Calico Jack's and the adjoining beach and even enjoyed some beginner snorkeling. Lunch at Paradise was a tad overpriced but we enjoyed the Conch Fritters and Conch Salad and enjoyed walking around in the shops and seeing the numerous roosters prancing around. Our last port was Cozumel and we didn't see much of the island as we left quickly on a ferry to Playa del Carmen for our excursion to Tulum. The trip was a bit long in travel, short on the time at the site but marvelous due to us having a fantastic tour guide, enjoying delicious and low priced food as well as the shopping at Tulum. Jase was funny as our Cruise Director, Brian "Brooklyn" was also a character as was Jeff the Fun Guy at Punchline. Lots of laughs, good shows and other than our drawer not working properly in the cabin and my wife getting bit by what we suspect is a spider (non fatal) while she was asleep the third night it was a great vacation! Yeah there was a "scare" on Day Two regarding smoke int he engine room but within an hour we were on our way no problem. People who want to complain about one hour compared to the other 167 that were awesome is classic nit picking. We look forward to cruising on the Dream again in 2017! Read Less

This cruise was the absolute BEST cruise I have been on. It was a family and friends cruise with 13 people. We had a FABULOUS time. My room was a cove balcony on the Dream. I loved it. We choose early dining and each night my meal was fabulous. The service was top notch. I purchased the bottomless beverage program and it worked out perfect for me. The one thing that made this cruise so great was the cruise director. His name was Jase(I hope I spelled his name right) He was hands down the BEST cruise director I have EVER seen. He was all over that ship morning/noon/and night. He made each experience personal for everyone. I went to all the shows. They were great. We didn't get any rest. We stay engaged in the activities on the ship had to offer. My group is not into the pool and sun. So we utilized all the ship activities. I can't wait to book another cruise. At the ports we did not use the ship for our excursions. We booked with private tour guides and had a wonderful experience at each port, and the tour prices was $20.00/per person. We had a private a/c van with a nice tour guide that took us to do what we wanted to do. We had up to 8 hours if we chose. I can't say enough positive things about this trip. The only negative was we had 2 sea days going which left us with only one sea day coming back which did not allow us time to relax. I would have preferred to have the 2 sea days on the return. Carnival Dream Review - June 5-12, 2016 - just returned Before I start the review, let me say that after 18 cruises, this was BY FAR the absolute BEST cruise we've had....the CD/staff/entertainment/casino/customer service, etc on the Dream was TOP NOTCH!! It was the most organized embarkation and debarkation of ANY port! Now, having said that, I'm going to make some reflections on some things that Carnival has changed and are in the process of changing to inform all of you. However, I wanted to make sure everyone knew that I was NOT complaining...merely observations. Here's my review.... Sunday - June 5 - Embarkation from New Orleans Parked in the Eraso parking garage for $140 for a 7 day cruise. EASY access to terminal...all covered and no worry about rain/inclement weather. The only thing about the New Orleans embarkation process is that Platinum did not have a separate room to sit down at a table with a registration clerk. We were sent to the regular check in line, and then "peeled off" into the VIP line. In Galveston, where we typically cruise from, the Platinum/VIP have a separate security line and registration is in a separate room away from the mass mobs of people We arrived at the port at 10:30 and was in our rooms at 11:30am. We stayed in cabin 8261. Upon entering the cabin, we definitely noticed it was WARM. I immediately called the VIP line and they said to give it a couple of hours since all the doors had been open. I totally understood this, so we waited. After going to eat lunch and explore the ship, we came back to our cabin and it was still warm. I called again and they sent a guy from maintenance. His thermometer said it was 76 degrees in our cabin. He said Carnivals regulations temps were between 70-74. I told them this was the hottest our cabins have ever been and most of the time, we have to turn the thermostat warmer because it's cold in the rooms. Luckily, we brought a desk fan for me what I blow dry my hair, and this was the only air moving in the cabin. I called again. I was very nice, not pushy or rude. I let them know that I was highly disappointed in the room temperature and something needed to be done. They sent someone during our dinner that night and left a card on the bed stating that the room was now between 70-74 ,which is Carnivals regulations. However, I'll tell you again, we've NEVER had this issue with a cabin and "Carnivals regulations" were always comfortable temps if not cold temps. So, the next morning I call again. They said the maintenance crew was working on it again as we spoke. After several hours, the manager called me and asked about the temp. I told them it had not changed and was very warm and humid in the room. They proceeded to say there was nothing more they could do with the temp. Now, I was GLAD we thought about bringing the desk fan because we slept with the fan on ALL 7 nights! I felt that Carnival compensated me adequately because they refunded us 20% of our cruise cost as onboard credit AND a 15% discount on another cruise. I was satisfied with this, but the room was still hot Therefore, I felt the purser's desk/management did what they could to remedy the situation and did all they could, so I was satisfied. As for the cabin steward, Imade was our steward and he was GREAT. Something new from Carnival, but the room steward will ask you if you want your room "serviced" in the mornings or evenings. I said BOTH since my tips are paying for that. I'm "old school" and I want my bed made when I come back after lunch for my afternoon nap Not sure why Carnival is changing this, but I requested morning and evening and the room steward was very cordial. We had dinner in the MDR every night and the new American Table menu was about the same, with a few additions and deletions. But the MDR food quality on this cruise was EXCELLENT! After dinner, we attended the welcome aboard show which is the same show we've seen for the past 5 years or so. This was the ONLY show that we've seen before....all the other shows were brand new to us and we thoroughly enjoyed them! The show band was superb as well, with 7 live instrumentalists. We've heard rumors that the Dream is one of the last ships to still have a live show band and they are taking the Dream's band in January. All ships are going to a karaoke type music which I DON'T LIKE....I'm a musician myself and this highly disappoints me because the LIVE MUSIC is important to me and sets my "cruise mood"! After the show, we went to hear the BLACKJACK BAND in the Ocean Plaza 5 midship. We went to hear them EVERY NIGHT (except for their off day on Wednesday). They are BY FAR the BEST band we've ever heard on any other cruise!! However, they also informed us that their contract is up in January and they will not be back because Carnival is doing away with live music. I'M SO SAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Monday - June 6 - Sea day We ordered room service for breakfast, ate the Seaday brunch in the MDR for lunch and then the MDR for dinner. This was the first formal night. I've noticed that most people dress business for formal nights now, with not many dressing in tuxedos/long ball gowns. I even saw jeans and shorts in the dining rooms for all nights, even formal nights. I really think Carnival needs to go back to not allowing jeans/shorts in the dining rooms....my opinion. We spent the day playing games, going to trivia, casino slot tournament, exploring the ship, etc. Evening was Blackjack band, Dive-in movie at 10pm (Pitch Perfect 2) and casino Tuesday - June 7 - Sea day We had an early Seaday brunch/breakfast then pizza/deli for lunch and MDR for dinner. Today was spent with trivia, ice carving, taking a nap, relaxing on the balcony, Blackjack band in the evening and casino Wednesday - June 8 - Honduras This was our first day to eat breakfast on the Lido deck and I went to the omelette station...yum, yum. We got off the ship about 11am and walked straight off....no lines. We did some shopping at the port shops and then was back on about 1pm. After we got back on the ship, we went to the pasta bar for lunch and NO ONE was up there. The pasta and caesar was great! Dinner was in the MDR again. After dinner, we went to the "Dancin in the Streets" show which was AWESOME! I'm not quite sure how they will do the big shows without live music anymore...it saddens me :/ I also earned my DOU card in the casino today, so I had FREE DRINKS in the casino the last 3 days of the cruise. Thursday - June 9 - Belize City, Belize This was a tender only port and the tender ride was about 30 minutes, an hour round trip. We did not get off in this port. Enjoyed a relaxing EMPTY ship all day We did Lido breakfast again, pizza for lunch and MDR for dinner. The evening show was the "Love and Marriage" show with Jase (the CD). He did a GREAT job and even asked different questions we've never heard. After seeing about 18 of these shows, we knew all the questions, lol. The sewer smell was getting pretty obvious in the rear of the ship on decks 3, 4 and 5. There are definite signs of wear and tear on carpets, furniture, windows...it's time for the Dream to have a makeover, which is scheduled for dry dock in late January and early February. Friday - June 10 - Cozumel We ordered room service again for breakfast and it was delivered 15 minutes after we ordered. We got off the ship about 10am, did some shopping and back on about 11:30am. We ate Lido buffet for lunch (and I was NOT impressed with most of the Lido buffet food). The show was the Carnival Legends (guest performers) and this show was GREAT!!! I've never seen a ship that put this show together and was more entertaining than the Dream! Jase and the dancers did an awesome job of "backing" the fellow guest performers and the show was really entertaining! Then we were back at listening to Blackjack band and the casino. Saturday - June 11 - Sea day We ate in the MDR for the seaday brunch (this is the 3rd day to eat the brunch...excellent food). I had the filet mignon and eggs! AWESOME! For lunch, we had just a caesar salad and a little pasta from the pasta bar. We were really tired of eating and just didn't eat much for lunch. We entered the slot tournament again today and I WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For dinner, we had our last meal in the MDR and our waiter, Edwin, knew that mom and I LOVED the creme brulee from Monday's formal night and so he specifically had the galley make creme brulee for us on the last night! THAT WAS COOL!!!! The show tonight was "8 more seconds" Country show.....WOW, WOW, WOW!!!!!!!! Incredible show with incredible dancing/music and Jimmy (from Blackjack band) was the fiddle player and he's AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sunday - June 12 - Debarkation Platinum/Diamond met in the front dining room and they had coffee, juices, danishes for us. Galveston does NOT do this for the Platinum guests on debarkation day. Very nice gesture from the Dream team! They came and got the 119 Platinum and 6 Diamond guests (I know these exact numbers because I always ask the purser's desk for that interesting info) and escorted us right off the ship at 7:45am. We were through customs, with our luggage and pulling out of the parking garage at 7:59am. The organization of the Dream team for debarkation was second to none....the BEST EVER!! Read Less

This was our first cruise, and we were also celebrating our honeymoon. I'm glad we picked the Dream! It's a massive ship with lots to do! Service: The service was excellent - the staff is polite and eager to help. They remember your names and make sure you're satisfied with everything. The ship was kept very clean at all times. We did not experience any sewage smell like some people have mentioned. Room: We stayed in room 12-215 on the Spa deck, balcony. We loved how small and quiet this deck was, and the smells coming from the spa were awesome. The room was cleaned every night at the same time, and they did an excellent job. The towel animals were adorable! Putra our steward was awesome :) The only fuss about the 12th deck is you can't get across the ship easily to get to some areas, which could be a hassle for the disabled. The room had a fridge but it doesn't get super cold - but it was cold enough to handle my almond milk, some soda, and my medication. The bathroom doesn't have a fan and it is also raised up so watch your step. The lights in the cabin take a little longer to turn on, too. Also, there is only one outlet by the desk. Bring a power strip (on the approved list) and an extension cable. You may also want to bring a fan as the rooms can get kind of warm, it helps to close your curtains during the day if you're out and about. The AC was otherwise fine. The shower is small, and not a lot of places to store your stuff. They do provide shampoo and body wash on the shower wall which is nice - not the best stuff but it smells good. There is a clothes line that comes out and stretches across. I used this to hang our swimsuits and such to dry. The king bed was comfortable, but unfortunately its one that can be separated so the split was kind of annoying. Food: I have a food allergy (milk) so my review will be different from others - and please remember to contact Carnival ahead of time if you have a special diet or restrictions! Christopher and his team did an amazing job accommodating me and made sure things were safe. My husband was impressed with their level of care towards me :). The shows the servers did were awesome! My only wish was there was more options in late afternoon/night for food as stuff closed pretty early. I didn't go on the buffet too much, I got the occasional cereal and fruit in the AM, and hit up the Mongolian Wok once which was delicious! My husband enjoyed the food from the buffet, and loved the ice cream machine! I went to the Off The Grill section a lot for burgers and fries which were tasty and always hot. I ordered room service once and it took just under 30 minutes. The BLT was tasty and fresh. And for those who are dairy sensitive - they custom made the Carnival Melting cake for me and served it with sorbet. So yummy! They also have soy milk upon request. Don't be shy to ask. Entertainment: We frequented the 18+ comedy shows every night and they were a blast, and the highlight of the trip! We saw Kim Harrison, Stanley Ullman, Russ Nagel, Diane Ford, and of course Jeff the Fun Dude was a blast! Get there early and get a good seat, it is worth it! We also went to a few Encore! shows which were great! I wish I went to more. My in-laws were w/ us and they enjoyed the casino and art gallery. Spa: We loved the Thalassotherapy Pool and relaxation room! The pool was just right temp, never over crowded, and soothing. I loved to come there at night to help me sleep better. I wish it was open to midnight, vs 10pm though! The area was beautiful, smelled great, and always clean. Staff was professional and courteous. My husband loved the sauna type rooms. The roomy showers outside of the therapy rooms were great. The fitness center looked awesome for those that used it, too. Pools/Whirlpools: The pools are small, and the depth is 4'4". Disappointing. The pool is salt water vs chlorine which was a plus in my book however. The pools did get crowded pretty easily, especially with children which is to be expected. I got fecal matter on my foot from this area (probably from a child) so watch out for that - and of course this isn't Carnival's fault. The whirlpools were cozy, especially on the Serenity deck. Highly recommend them. Ports: We went to the Key West, Freeport, and Nassau. Key West, FL was beautiful! I wish we had more time to do stuff. We went on a simple trolley tour and walked around at the shops. Freeport, we decided not to do any excursions that day but the port itself looked very poor and boring. All the shops were selling the same exact things and quite pushy. The running gag was it was called 'Free'port for a reason. Nassau was beautiful with a lot more to do! We went on the Atlantis aquarium tour and it was beautiful! Highly recommend it! The resort had a restaurant on top which was pretty terrible. Please avoid that place for food if you can. If you don't do any excursions you can walk around and shop, and there is a beach in walking distance but it's at your own risk. The shops were less pushy, too - we got some pretty neat stuff, and it helps to haggle. Internet: The Wi-Fi worked fine, however the HUB app is not supported. I got the $60 internet package so I could access everything. You can use multiple devices, just one at time. You just simply login and boot off the other device. Next time we'll get two packages. It's worth it! Laundry: They have several launderettes on the ship - and for $6 on your sign & sail card you can do a pretty decent sized load of clothes. We washed our clothes at the end of the trip so we wouldn't have to do a bunch when we got home. I brought a little $1.50 bottle of Tide from Big Lots before going, the detergent they offer is crap. The washer takes about 30 minutes, dryer gives you an hour. I didn't need to use the full dry time though. Next time I'm not packing as much clothes since they offer this service. Of course you can pay extra and have your clothes done for you. Shops: They sell fine jewelry, cosmetics, alcohol, and souvenirs. We got a few shirts on their 2 for $20 special. The women's shirts are comfortable and not junior sized - and they offer up to 3X for both genders. They sell small toiletry items if needed like pads, shampoos, pain meds, etc. There's even a little candy shop but nothing to write home about. Summary: We didn't want to leave this beautiful ship, and we're already considering planning for an anniversary cruise next year! I'm hoping the Western tour is more exciting port wise :) Read Less

The cruise was wonderful, islands and excursions were all great. Loved swimming with the dolphins, the all inclusive Secrets resorts and the Maya ruins. We had been on the ship when it was only a few years old but you couldn't tell it was older. The service was great. We had room service a couple of mornings and ate in the dining room every evening. We had great staff and I loved the entertainment. The comedy shows were so good. As usual the food was excellent. My daughter is an adventurist and tried and loved the frog legs and rabbit. I did miss Guy's burgers from the Breeze. We had visited these islands in the past but really wanted to stay a few days over to visit New Orleans since we had never been there. We have been on many cruises mostly carnival but one RCL and two NCL. My husband and I were traveling with my sister and her husband spring break week. We picked the dream because it was a different port for us, New Orleans seemed like a fun start and we wanted to try a large ship. We flew in and stayed at the Embassy Suites and in the morning had an easy walk to the ship, even rolling our luggage. The reservation to board worked great. First time we had that and I think it helped flow. Ship looked in great shape. We had a room with a cove balcony next door to my sister's room and we were able to open door in between and have one very large balcony. All of us loved the lower balcony compared to the higher ones we have had before. Pro cove balcony music was excellent, all over ship- danced every evening before late dinner we felt we could get a seat everywhere we went by going 15-20 min before serenity - adult hot tubs and loungers food was good -even the buffet.main dinning room always good. my sister loved Indian and my husband the upstairs Italian for lunch. shows were high energy and very good Little French Key in Roatan- book if you are able staff was all friendly Cons Belize tender wait water on ship taste terrible- order bottles for room - well worth it Read Less

I chose this cruise for spring break. This was my second time on the dream and it was just as nice as the first time. A group of seven traveled together with three who were first timers. I've taken at least nine cruises that I can recall. My preferred departure port is the port of New Orleans because of the ease of embarkation and the port is close to home. The staggered time works well and we were on the ship quickly. I had two connecting balcony rooms on the eight floor and the cabin steward was great. We had late dining and the service was slower than normal on this particular cruise, but I had nowhere to go and nothing to do! Enjoyed all three ports. Traveled with three children(16, 15, & 15). They enjoyed their club and they also love to cruise. I will be taking the carnival triumph December 1st to celebrate my mothers birthday and the Dream again for Spring Break 2017. The shows were good. I did not participate in any activities because most of them I've already done on previous cruises. For this cruise I mostly hung out on Lido deck and mingled. We took taxis in both Jamaica and the Cayman Islands to the beach and that was nice. In Cozumel we walked around town so that my daughter could practice her Spanish with the locals. She absolutely loves this so we have to devote a portion of our day for her to mingle, meet with the people of the island. I did not use the spa services, but the temperature in the hot tub's were not warm enough. We had no problems getting off the ship everybody cooperated and follow directions so we were off the ship by 10 AM and headed back home. Read Less

The drinks did not lack alcohol. The service in the dining room was impeccable. Definitely get the chocolate melting cake. The comedy shows were very funny and all of the carnival shows in encore were fabulous. The adult only Serenity area was one of my favorite parts on the trip. The people at the excursion desk were extremely knowledgeable and our 3 shore excursions were so organized booking through Carnival. I DID have a big problem with my spa experience and after speaking to the manager, she refunded me 100% which I didn't even ask of her to do! I felt like the people working on this boat actually cared about my husband and I having a great time. This was the best customer service I have ever seen! Was reading some other cruisers reviews about the food on the ship, They didnt like the buffet and dining room food. Well my experience was that we were served in the dining area by a staff that was second to none, and we were served Lobster, Prime Rib, Filet Mignon, NY Strip, All Types Seafood and Many more choices, Every sea day you can have a great brunch, and there is a buffet with everything you can think of for breakfast, lunch, and dinner along with a dessert bar that is loaded. So if none of this sounds good to you then you should just not eat there and take you some bologna along with you and make your own sandwich. But oh yeah they have a Deli that makes Super sandwiches. Rooms are nice, Entertainment was very good and the ships staff very friendly and will do everything they can to make sure you have a Great Cruise. The only fault i found was way to much smoke in the casino and people who dont smoke and children do have to walk through that area some, MY wife and I enjoy playing the slots some but its hard to if you are a nonsmoker like we are and that is my only complaint, Everything else was terrific. We (husband and two teenage daughters) have sailed many times on Carnival (10) and only once on another cruise line. We like the relaxed atmosphere on Carnival so we just keep going when we can. We sailed out of New Orleans so we drove from Dallas on Saturday and spend the night in NO. I was so excited about going over Christmas but I will say that I might not do that again. It was just a little strange because it really didn't feel like Christmas but we made the best of it. They did have Christmas decorations everywhere (and we brought some for our room) as well as caroling, Christmas dinner, Christmas show and the Grinch on board. All of our staff from the waiters in the dining room to our room steward were exceptional! We barely saw our 16 year old daughters because they spent all their time in Club O2. The only problems we had were 1) I did not realize you couldn't take small plastic bottles on the ship (my fault for not checking I guess) so they took our sodas at embarkation! 2) Large full ship and there was a lack of places to get something to eat from like 3:30 to 5:00 in the afternoon. The buffet would close, no dining room yet, Italian closed so the only things to eat were pizza or a burger (and no Guy's Burgers on this ship) so there were really long lines for those. We had an inside cabin on level 2 for this one so that was something new for us. It was great for sleeping but it was in the front of the ship and the water was really rough so it made for a nauseating journey. i thought the food was great in the dining room. In fact, I think we only at the lido buffet on the first day and the rest of the time we either ate in the dining room, Bella Pasta, room service or pizza. Of course had fun in the casino. Spent way too much time in there! Staff was very nice and waiters were attentive. Already booked again (The Breeze this time) for June! Love Carnival and will keep on sailing! Read Less
