Had a good time on Carnival Dream out of New Orleans. Spent weekend in New Orleans and had a blast. Ocean view cabin. Saw 4 comedians and all great. Did steakhouse and fair. Did Chacchoben with Native Choice and highly recommend. Did Roatan Ocen Adventures snorkle hop and was fantastic. Much better than West Bay West End beach snorkle. Did cave-tubing.com butts up cave tube and zip. Great excursion for price. Highly recommend. Did Amazing Secret River via Carnival and although pricey was an amazing excursion. MDR was just OK. Elegant night on first sea day and Belize. First night had lobster and ate 2. Second night had filet and just OK. Not tender. Had Guys Buger just off grill and delicious. Had buffet one night and was Italian night and sucked. Show were fail. Did Motown, oldies, movies. Did lip sync show and was fun. Since me and a friend, reorganized cabin and switched bed with couch and worked great. Read Less

Cabin steward Pande was fantastic, he was very friendly and polite. Entertainment in shows were great. Cruise director Alex was very entertaining and easy to talk to. He made sure any and all questions were answered. Staff on lido deck were friendly not pushy when told you didn't want drinks. Ship was very clean and maintained. Dining was outstanding. Loved the fine dining room, only wish you didn't have to dress up on certain nights casual dress should have been ok, (I don't mean shorts, bathing suits or tank tops) Both boarding and exiting ship was fast, and organized. All ports were set up basically the same with same merchandise and shops, sales people were pushy and each said the same thing. Read Less

This was my husband's and my 4th Anniversary and 2nd cruise. It was amazing. The staff aboard the Dream made us feel like family. We had an interior room which was cleaned daily except the day we slept over after an awesome excursion. But then it was cleaned twice the next day. The food was delicious and the wait staff so nice. Highly recommend. The embarkation and disembarking went very smoothly. The shore excursions were amazing. There was a medical emergency on board that was handled very professionally and with great care for the privacy and safety of the family involved. A helicopter was brought in to take the patient and family to an awaiting hospital. The way this was handled makes us very confident about bringing our handicapped son on future cruises. Loved meeting people from all over the world. Thank you so much to the Fun Shops for having our room decorated. It made our Anniversary very special. Read Less

It was a bingo bugle tournament cruise. I had a great time. My room was clean and airy and I was close to the elevator. I was on deck 2 and concerned because I had read reviews about the noise being so low down and close to elevator. The only noise was a couple of drunks one night and the dropping of the anchor early one morning.i did not go on any any excursions but did go ashore for brief periods.Found the food very good although only warm at the buffet. Dining room early seating was excellent and we had 2 wonderful wait staff that addressed me by name each time and made sure I had my Diet Coke asap Every evening close to dessert time there was entertainment in the form of dance or song by the wait staff. Simply fun..Seaday brunch was excellent. I had a bottomless bubbles package and had no problems getting my pop.definitely worth buying. Embarkation went well .very organized but lots of lines and never-ending walking. I had the best time and have booked for the tournament next year on the carnival magic. Read Less

We went on this cruise to join other family. Right from the start we noticed that the drinking water had a bad door and taste. I spoke to the staff and Guest Services and the response was not to drink the tap water but buy bottled water. This is the first time I have ever exoperienced this issue ona cruise ship. We are Paltinium members on two other cruise lines and will NEVER travel on the Dream or another Carnival ship again. The dining room water was no better and I had to leave to go get the bottle water from my room. Again a first. There was not even a table cloth on the main dining room tables? The attitude of the wait staff and Guste Services is that the water has been tested and is okay but they could not explain the bad smell and taste. The remedy was that they will gladly sell us bottle water at $3.75 a bottle though! By day two of the cruise we notices that hat the room began to smell badly and discovered the ventilation system was bringing in hazardous exhaust fumes from the ship. Read Less

Where do I start over all the cruise itself was very relaxing and laid-back and I got to see some very beautiful views of several countries but as far as the ship itself it was very very very underwhelming I did not get what I was expecting overall in terms of fun entertaining the food was lacking it can best be described as a step above getting Shoney's I ended up eating a lot of cereal ice cream and hamburgers because I was not satisfied with any of the food on the ship I went to dinner and got a shrimp cocktail that was served in a bowl the shrimp were overcooked they were very small and I was just not satisfied with the taste I felt so bad for the workers on the ship they do not look happy which in turn made me feel like I was causing their unhappiness by being there the people were nice on the ship but they did not make me feel like I was having a once-in-a-lifetime experience this was my first cruise everyone who's been on a cruise before has brag to me about the experience I should have with the food with the service the fun with the entertainment and I didn't get anything that was described to me I really have to question whether or not I did the right thing to celebrate my honeymoon and my husband and I's birthday I was very very disappointed with what I thought was going to be an awesome experience the main thing was the food was just not goodalso I left the ship with just thinking all they wanted to do was get as much money out of you as they could they wanted to sell you everything it was all about money money money and I just wish that I could have had a better experience I would have gladly spent more money if I had something worth spending it on Read Less

This cruise was a repeat itinerary from 2013, but on a much larger ship. The Dream had 4K+ passengers, but still seemed uncrowded. Food quality in the main dining room seems to be declining along with service. Portions seemed smaller, particularly with beef items. Servers sometimes brought food to wrong person. Bread options were sometimes offered to each person and other times it was in baskets on tables. Tablecloths were used only on "elegant" nights which now appear to allow shorts and t-shirts despite what the rules say. Deserts were always what we liked about Carnival, but on this cruise all the chocolate cakes tasted almost the same regardless of the descriptive names. Negative item was a cabin shower drain backup on day 3. Also bar soap was missing when we boarded and a couple glasses had fingerprints and/or lip prints on them when we first boarded. This was quickly rectified when brought to steward's attention. Overall, we did enjoy the cruise experience. Our cabin steward Samuel was great and met all of our unique needs asap. Read Less

I was very impressed by Ramil. He was excellent. Loved the shows they were really good. The entertainers were good. The comedians in the punchliner were so funny. This was a family cruise and having already been on the DREAM 2 other times, I knew what to expect. The Dream is my favorite ship, in all her beauty. I have waited 4 days to write this review as I left extremely upset on debarkation day, Sun 10/21/18. I will start with what upset me terribly first- When our #30 group were called to disembark, we walked towards the elevators and as I was about to push the button, the elevators ALL shut down. An announcement came over the intercom in broken English, that the elevators were not to be used, that all remaining cruisers would have to use the stairs. We had carry on luggage that we would have to carry down the stairs. My husband came out of the bathroom and stated that the water had also been cut off that he was unable to wash his hands. This was 11:40 am. I am unable to do stairs because of major health issues, so this upset me terribly. I picked up the phone and called guest services stating that I could not do the stairs with my luggage and the person on the other end apologized. That's all I got! Also, AFTER we managed to do the stairs, My husband's passport was flagged so another delay. It's funny it was NOT flagged on Embarkation day. Here's My Bullet List of Concerns with Carnival: 1- The $5 Chat APP did not function. Error code 90% of time was Service Declined 2-Miscellaneous charges on my bill daily, requiring me to go to Guest Services 3-Room Stewards & Security were not knowledgable on the disembarkation luggage tags 4-Hot Tubs were not HOT, nor jets working on Days Sun - Tues. I finally found one on Wed that was working properly 5-Fine Dining Room Waiters were not personal at all. I'm used to them greeting you by name. Spoke very little to us. 6-Husband grabbed a serving utensil to spoon out food and the buffet server snatched the pan right out from under him, and said, "Buffet Closed" This was uncalled for. 7-Could NOT understand any intercom announcements...Broken English 8-The Trivia games I so much enjoy were not fun. The facilitator did not speak loud enough...not much motivation for the games 9-The gratuities used to be warranted when your room stewards made your bed more than once a day, and the towel animals were unique. I was able to compare our towel animals with a fellow cruiser. Ours were as if a 5 year old did them. This may seem trivial, but as a cruiser, this is part of that unique service you should get for the extreme amounts of gratuities that Carnival demands you pay. 10-Drinks very weak and expensive. Not much alcohol in them. 11-and.....DRUM ROLL.......My new luggage is missing a wheel. Carnival broke my luggage 12- I am cancelling my May 11, 2019 Cruise already booked since last summer 2017. I am going to forfeit my deposit. 13- GOOD BYE CARNIVAL Read Less

My husband and I just got home from this cruise today and I wanted to write my review while things were still on my mind. First of all, the staff were friendly and helpful. Our Steward, Pantika, called us by name and always made sure we had everything we needed. He was the best!!! Cruise director Alex was full of energy and always friendly when we saw him. We splurged on this cruise and stayed in cabin 6479, a premium vista balcony room on back of the ship. The balcony was huge and wrapped around the corner to the back. We loved it and spent a lot of time out there. The only problem was that the glass was dirty and you couldn't see through it when you were seated. Our room was great with 2 large windows and a glass door. The food was great and we ate in the dining room every night. It was like 7 date nights in a row!! Oh!! And the carrot cake at the coffee shop is to die for!!! Loved Guys burgers and the Red Frog serves the best diet coke on the ship :) We sailed past Hurricane Michael on night number 2 and the seas were really rough, but our Captain got us where we needed to go without having to miss or change any of our stops. Thanks Captain!! There was a terrible smell of sewer near the back set of stairs and elevators. I read another review that complained of this so I know it wasn't just an isolated problem. You just had to hold your breath and run!!! Overall, we had a great time and will definitely cruise with carnival again!! Read Less

After a 3 hour delay the boarding process was horrible we were hurded like cattle with little to no direction. 5 min after boarding the ship you are mustered on lockdown in a dinning hall then it’s a free for all to get to the elevators or move 12 decks back to your room. When I say the ship was overcrowded you could not move about with out being up in someone’s business. It took almost an hour to get settled in not fun at all. The schedule your dinner meal in an overcrowded restaurant and expect you to eat at odd late times. This is designed to force you to buy food. The whole time they are pushing you to buy crap it’s loke a 7 day locked down time share convention with boose total waste of money. This is not what I expected from a trusted cruse line like carnival needs to say I will never cruse with carnival again. Read Less

On this cruise it was myself, my husband and my daughter (18 years old). Also cruising with us was my other daughter and her husband, they we on the 9th floor, I think, in a Aft balcony cabin. We had a Cloud 9 Spa Balcony cabin on the 11th floor. The cabin was as expected with a spacious balcony which I love having the wonderful ocean view and often sit out there and read. The Spa was ok, but not really my cup of tea. (We did not book the room for the Spa, but for the balcony) The one thing my daughter and I found most useful was going up to the spa to shower each day. The shower/bathroom in our cabin is tiny (like all cabins). However, the Spa had 2 private showers, large bathroom counter with hair dryers. We all chose to dine in the dining room each night. This was a wonderful experience. My 18 year old daughter is a vegetarian and the waiters were great in making sure she had lots of choices for dinner, even having special entrees made for her to try in addition to the offerings on the menu. The wait staff quickly learned our names and preferences. My son-in-law is a very picky eater, born and raised in the Midwest. He enjoyed trying the different cuisine each night, but we could not get him to try the escargot! :) He was always able to order the meal he knew he would eat and then also order the more exotic (to him) item to try. Dessert was amazing!! You cannot go an a Carnival cruise and not have the Chocolate Melting Cake at least once!! My husband enjoyed Guy's BBQ. The Sea Day Brunch was great! Love the eggs Benedict! We really enjoyed the Lip Sync Battle performance! The Strings Trio in the lobby area each night was really great. We had a lot of fun at the Hairy Chest contest at the pool deck!! We did not do any shore excursions on our cruise at any of the ports. We wanted to just explore, shop and do some snorkeling. Mahogany Bay was absolutely beautiful!! This was our favorite port. Everyone was very pleasant, not at all pushy to purchase things. The ski lift to the beach takes you over some beautiful lush flowering trees and the view is spectacular. The beach was not too crowded. I really enjoyed snorkeling here. Lots of colorful fish, I was glad I had purchased a underwater camera for this cruise. My daughter (the 18 year old) and I were in the water most of the day watching the fish. Suddenly my daughter starts heading to the shore. My husband meets her half way to the beach and she is in tears. I meet up with them and she is in horrible pain. When I finally calm her down enough to find out what is wrong (as I had checked all limbs were intact and there was no blood). She was stung across her bottom by a jelly fish!! (I have to point out this is my very shy and modest daughter). Her whole bottom was covered with large red welts. We get her to shore and long story short, security personnel are also armed with vinegar! Costa Maya was our least favorite port! We took some advise we had found online and took a trolley to the local town! This was a horrible idea!! We could not walk 5 feet without being approached to buy something. While I understand it is how they make a living, and liked to buy locally made things, it took multiple "No thank yous" before each would move on to the next person. If they were selling jewelry, they would be putting it on you as you were saying no! This was really a turn off. We ended up taking a taxi back to the port area. The port area sellers were less pushy and she spent some time in the pool there. The Dream was never too crowded. I assume because of the time of the year, less kids. The wait for an elevator could get long after a show or when getting off at a port. We enjoyed ourselves and most importantly were able to relax!! Next cruise, The Horizon over New Years 2020!! The tea room was good only went on the last day. Would appreciate if they had the varieties of tea free & not charge. Went to the bar on the last day - the bartender recommended a drink which was really horrible - felt cheated of a drink. Our room service Mai was good. Alex the cruise director was good. We chose this cruise because it was going to several places we were wanting to go. The port was within a hundred miles from our house. We have cruised Carnival many times in the past. It is not our preferred cruise line but having not been on a Carnival ship in several years we thought we would give them another try. Hoping that their ships were modern and clean it was very disappointing from the very beginning. The interior of the ship reminds me of a 70’s nightclub. Red, orange and brown decor adorned the entire ship. So with this disappointment we were still optimistic about our week on board. Hoping that suite accommodations would be our saving grace we proceeded to our cabin with excitement. Our room was exactly what we had expected and our cabin service was good. Downside... room was located on 9th floor directly under an outside dining area with a wooden deck. The sounds of chairs and tables being moved began at 5:00 am and continued past midnight. It only stopped for a few minutes in between guests. So our suite oasis was never a peaceful retreat as once thought The hallway of the 9th floor had an odor that smelled like raw sewage. I reported this odor and inquire as to weather this was a health concern. I was told they were aware of the problem and should have in fixed in the near future and that it posed no health risk. This odor continued throughout the week. Read on... Read Less

We sailed on the Carnival Dream this past week. . The reason for my review is to help someone else who may be looking at cabin 7398 or others in that area. In and around this cabin there is a strong odor that smells like sewage. The smell hits you as you walk down the hall starting around cabin 7374 and smells very strong until about cabin 7408. Sadly this smell also permeated inside the two cabins we booked on that hall, 7398 being one of them. On port days the smell was even stronger. If we were on the ship on port days we could not stay in our cabin, it was awful. When we first boarded the ship the smell in the hall and cabin was immediate. My hope was that it would go away once we sailed but it did not. I brought a Bath & Body wallflower and it didn’t even help to cover the smell. This being a balcony room my thought was “at least we will get some fresh air sitting outside”. Wrong... This balcony is located right above the smoking lounge are two decks below. Even with the breeze from the ships movement you will still smell cigarette smoke. It may not bother some but it just wasn’t what I expected. Overalll the ship was nice, our room steward was great, dining staff could’ve been a bit more attentive. We didn’t always get what we ordered, glasses were often empty and food was subpar. We ate at the steakhouse one evening. I personally wouldn’t do it again on this ship. Again, food was subpar and service was terrible. I’ve had better steakhouse experiences on other Carnival ships. Again, the main reason for this review is to put the word out there about the room smell. I would’ve like to have know this before selecting our rooms. Read Less

They have this thing with hasbro and the games are juvenile. Lack of trivia’s and the odd one they did it was like the staff didn’t want to be there. On one day after they did a music trivia the host decided the next trivia would be fairy tales - everyone but a few got up and left! Well she was only 20 and it’s what she wanted to do so never mind the people! Last day was at sea - nothing going on on board and no show in the evening - unheard of. Finally they held the meet and mingle on the last day....we had water and several biscuits on offer with a wonderful Roberto who spoke about the wonderful shows they put on. If you want to stay outside and sunbathe all day - fine but for everything else it was very poor. Read Less

My wife and I had this cruise scheduled and a hurricane named Harvey changed our itinerary for us. This was also the only cruise on the Dream we had not sailed as anyone that has looked at our profile of cruises will see and our 5th on the Dream. Liked Carnivals new embarkation board with boarding pass, sail and sign card in mail box by cabin door and we love the Cove Balconies on deck 2. The Glory nor the Valor have cove balconies so that will be missed. The entertainment had the best vocals of any of our Carnival cruises since Chris Williams moved on. One of the dancers, Josh looked a lot like Shelton Cooper (Big Bang Theory) The service was fantastic with the exception of the Dream Steakhouse.(read below) Ports and excursions we do not do, mobility problems and to far from soft-serve machine. Son and his wife and their two boys going with us in November all riding the City of New Orleans. First of all this is not a rant against Carnival more of an observation in general and particular this one cruise that I hope will be just a one of. We have two more cruises scheduled on the Dream in November 2018 and Feb. 2019 then sadly the Dream moves to Galveston in May 2019. Now the rest of the story! My reasoning for the claim of (Profit Gouging). 1. Onboard credit has changed from per person to just cabin in other words we would get 25.00 for my wife and 25.00 for me onboard credit booking a 7 day cruise, now just 25.00 for the cabin booked. 2. Gratuity on top of gratuity, I know that a lot of people don't tip any extras and some shame on them do not tip at all. Carnival does charge gratuities either on the front of the cruise or the back of the cruise now another gratuity is added to every sail and sign purchase. My wife and I tip in cash (room service, bar etc.). 3. It could just be me, but appeared to be less staff causing longer wait time and confusion, this also could be for profit over comfort. Now for my one and only big complaint and the end of steak house dinning. We always eat at the Dream Steakhouse our first night and loved it until this cruise. Arrived at Steakhouse at 6:00 PM table for 4 seated and ordered our drinks, all four ordered steak baked potatoes and salad and that's exactly what we got. At 6:45 our steaks arrived, I was about full from all the bread and butter eaten while I was waiting. Halfway through the steak about 7:00 our baked potatoes arrived and at the end of our steak you guess it our salads arrived and my wife's salad wasn't what she ordered. Read Less

Steakhouse food was amazing, but service could have been much better. Staff in general was ok.... Definitely standouts, but majority was just there for a check.... Or so it seemed. They like to tell you not to bring drugs on board from ports ..... But enough people did that it was completely obvious I could have carried anything on board. Won't be traveling the dream anymore.... Ready for a nice, more to to date ship. Faster to the fun was a waste of money ... We received no benefits other than or luggage was delivered slightly earlier than normal. No priority services at all. Save your money for the steakhouse or a fabulous excision in port or shopping in Port. Overall decent cruise but nothing spectacular. Read Less

I absolutely LOVED all of the shows Carnival Dream had on the ship, you could find me jamming and singing to all the songs they were playing or laughing till i cried because of how well they were put together. The food was outstanding, and if there was something you didn't like, the staff offered to have it recooked or asked if you wanted something else. After attending a nephew’s wedding in MS this was a very convenient port for us to cruise from. This was the first time during August after seven previous cruises. We had previously done one in early July on RC Empress of the Seas, 4 during Spring Break with our children on RC, and 2 in early May after college classes were done for the year but before public schools were out. One of these was on RC and the other on Carnival. Two of the cruises sailed from Ft. Lauderdale, and the others had all been from Galveston. Embarkation was the fastest we have ever experienced but we boarded the latest that we ever had too. We were able to walk straight to our cabin and leave the carry ons before heading to the Lido for lunch. Luggage was delivered shortly after returning from the safety demonstration. We had the late dining time and ate in the dining all but two evenings. Service was just average and the same could be said for the food quality. We did try Bella Pasta for lunch one day but once again it was just average. We did like Guy’s hamburgers and BBQ as well as the Blue Iguana. We stayed on the ship in Montego Bay and enjoyed a quieter ship that day, we toured the turtle farm in Grand Cayman through an Carnival excursion that included lunch. We had booked Nachi Cocum for Cozumel and also enjoyed that. We have been there 3 times now and the service did seem a little off this time but a good time was still had. We only attending one show during the cruise and it was good. Due to late dining time it was hard to be back in time to attend the shows. We did watch several movies on the big screen and as always enjoyed those. We stayed in a Cloud 9 Balcony stateroom so we enjoyed the spa most every day and also worked out in the fitness center every day. We never had any issues with machines being busy. We did self assist debarkation and were off of the ship very quickly. We had parked in Fulton Parking Garage so we had a short wait to get a shuttle to the garage. Only one person could get the car and bring it down to have the luggage loaded so that process also took a little time. Not sure we would use them again just because of the additional time that it took for the shuttle and then the loading process. We will not plan on sailing again during a time that many children will be on board. It was amazing to us how many of them were running around at all hours and with little respect for others. Overall it was the much needed break that we needed from a very busy year. Read Less

This cruise left close to home and it was the best vacation ever. We picked the bobsled excursion in Jamaica. The wait at the the top was longer than expected due to a group riding the breaks of the bobsleds and slowing everyone down. However, the weather was perfect and the view incredible. The skylift was peaceful and Dunn's waterfall is a must for Jamaica. We went snorkeling for the first time in Grand Cayman. The guides were very good and kept a close eye on our safety. Plus, this excursion allowed a lot of time for shopping. In Cozumel, we chose to do our own trip by getting in a taxi and traveling to a local beach by Chankanaab. Only $15/person including a drink and free rentals of kayak and snorkel equipment. The Dream is a wonderful ship. All the staff was eager and happy to assist with whatever request we had. One of us is gluten free and the restaurants all had options. The entertainment was great, especially the comedians. We left the kids home and got the Cloud 9 package, which we used everyday. The food in the main dining room was some of the best we every had. We tried the BBQ and buffet, but were not impressed. Guy's Burger Bar was worth going back for. There were plenty of children on the ship, but we only encountered them during meal times or when the teenagers hung out at night at the back of the ship. Also, we were lucky the weather was perfect for this time of year. We would definitely choose another Carnival Cruise. Read Less

We chose this cruise because the itinerary had places we wanted to go and sail out of a port we have never been to before (Port NOLA). Overall we had a great experience. It was my fourth Carnival cruise and my wife's first time ever cruising with any cruise line. However it was my first time staying in a balcony room and on the spa deck which I highly recommend. The amenities that are offered while staying on the spa deck are worth it and a great place to go when want to experience something more relaxing. My wife has said she will not travel with any other cruise line other than Carnival as she enjoyed it so much and our cruise director Lee Mason was fantastic and very entertaining. The entertainment was great as always with something always going on. The service was exceptional. We had anytime dining which means we sat at a different table and sometimes different sides of the dining room each night which resulted in the dining staff singing "Happy Honeymoon" to us twice during our cruise along with a personalized chocolate cake both times. We wanted to do something memorable for our 25th wedding anniversary and this cruise was just the ticket. From the excellent food and high class entertainment, this cruise had it all. Whether you wanted the fine dining of the steakhouse, the normal dining in the regular restaurants or just grabbing something on the go, we didn’t experience any bad meals. The cabin had plenty of room and was quite cozy when we did actually sleep. We had plenty of choices for excursions in the ports of call. There was something for everyone in each of the ports. The shopping opportunities in Grand Cayman & Cozumel we’re off the charts. Embarkation & debarkation both went very smoothly. I would highly recommend you purchase Faster to the Fun if it’s available when you cruise. We were able to embark well ahead of most of the cruisers which made that experience very nice. We are definitely looking forward to our next cruise! Read Less
