This cruise was a repeat itinerary from 2013, but on a much larger ship. The Dream had 4K+ passengers, but still seemed uncrowded. Food quality in the main dining room seems to be declining along with service. Portions seemed smaller, particularly with beef items. Servers sometimes brought food to wrong person. Bread options were sometimes offered to each person and other times it was in baskets on tables. Tablecloths were used only on "elegant" nights which now appear to allow shorts and t-shirts despite what the rules say. Deserts were always what we liked about Carnival, but on this cruise all the chocolate cakes tasted almost the same regardless of the descriptive names. Negative item was a cabin shower drain backup on day 3. Also bar soap was missing when we boarded and a couple glasses had fingerprints and/or lip prints on them when we first boarded. This was quickly rectified when brought to steward's attention. Overall, we did enjoy the cruise experience. Our cabin steward Samuel was great and met all of our unique needs asap. Read Less

My husband and I just got home from this cruise today and I wanted to write my review while things were still on my mind. First of all, the staff were friendly and helpful. Our Steward, Pantika, called us by name and always made sure we had everything we needed. He was the best!!! Cruise director Alex was full of energy and always friendly when we saw him. We splurged on this cruise and stayed in cabin 6479, a premium vista balcony room on back of the ship. The balcony was huge and wrapped around the corner to the back. We loved it and spent a lot of time out there. The only problem was that the glass was dirty and you couldn't see through it when you were seated. Our room was great with 2 large windows and a glass door. The food was great and we ate in the dining room every night. It was like 7 date nights in a row!! Oh!! And the carrot cake at the coffee shop is to die for!!! Loved Guys burgers and the Red Frog serves the best diet coke on the ship :) We sailed past Hurricane Michael on night number 2 and the seas were really rough, but our Captain got us where we needed to go without having to miss or change any of our stops. Thanks Captain!! There was a terrible smell of sewer near the back set of stairs and elevators. I read another review that complained of this so I know it wasn't just an isolated problem. You just had to hold your breath and run!!! Overall, we had a great time and will definitely cruise with carnival again!! Read Less

On this cruise it was myself, my husband and my daughter (18 years old). Also cruising with us was my other daughter and her husband, they we on the 9th floor, I think, in a Aft balcony cabin. We had a Cloud 9 Spa Balcony cabin on the 11th floor. The cabin was as expected with a spacious balcony which I love having the wonderful ocean view and often sit out there and read. The Spa was ok, but not really my cup of tea. (We did not book the room for the Spa, but for the balcony) The one thing my daughter and I found most useful was going up to the spa to shower each day. The shower/bathroom in our cabin is tiny (like all cabins). However, the Spa had 2 private showers, large bathroom counter with hair dryers. We all chose to dine in the dining room each night. This was a wonderful experience. My 18 year old daughter is a vegetarian and the waiters were great in making sure she had lots of choices for dinner, even having special entrees made for her to try in addition to the offerings on the menu. The wait staff quickly learned our names and preferences. My son-in-law is a very picky eater, born and raised in the Midwest. He enjoyed trying the different cuisine each night, but we could not get him to try the escargot! :) He was always able to order the meal he knew he would eat and then also order the more exotic (to him) item to try. Dessert was amazing!! You cannot go an a Carnival cruise and not have the Chocolate Melting Cake at least once!! My husband enjoyed Guy's BBQ. The Sea Day Brunch was great! Love the eggs Benedict! We really enjoyed the Lip Sync Battle performance! The Strings Trio in the lobby area each night was really great. We had a lot of fun at the Hairy Chest contest at the pool deck!! We did not do any shore excursions on our cruise at any of the ports. We wanted to just explore, shop and do some snorkeling. Mahogany Bay was absolutely beautiful!! This was our favorite port. Everyone was very pleasant, not at all pushy to purchase things. The ski lift to the beach takes you over some beautiful lush flowering trees and the view is spectacular. The beach was not too crowded. I really enjoyed snorkeling here. Lots of colorful fish, I was glad I had purchased a underwater camera for this cruise. My daughter (the 18 year old) and I were in the water most of the day watching the fish. Suddenly my daughter starts heading to the shore. My husband meets her half way to the beach and she is in tears. I meet up with them and she is in horrible pain. When I finally calm her down enough to find out what is wrong (as I had checked all limbs were intact and there was no blood). She was stung across her bottom by a jelly fish!! (I have to point out this is my very shy and modest daughter). Her whole bottom was covered with large red welts. We get her to shore and long story short, security personnel are also armed with vinegar! Costa Maya was our least favorite port! We took some advise we had found online and took a trolley to the local town! This was a horrible idea!! We could not walk 5 feet without being approached to buy something. While I understand it is how they make a living, and liked to buy locally made things, it took multiple "No thank yous" before each would move on to the next person. If they were selling jewelry, they would be putting it on you as you were saying no! This was really a turn off. We ended up taking a taxi back to the port area. The port area sellers were less pushy and she spent some time in the pool there. The Dream was never too crowded. I assume because of the time of the year, less kids. The wait for an elevator could get long after a show or when getting off at a port. We enjoyed ourselves and most importantly were able to relax!! Next cruise, The Horizon over New Years 2020!! Enjoyed the cruise. Went with a couple this time & they enjoyed it. There was a lot to do. Trivias not so good. The food was good. Liked the Indian food. Should have had it both for lunch & dinner. Service in the restaurants was very slack. Had to wait for over half an hour before the food was brought. Breakfast was really slow in the restaurants. Hence didn't go to the restaurants much. The tea room was good only went on the last day. Would appreciate if they had the varieties of tea free & not charge. Went to the bar on the last day - the bartender recommended a drink which was really horrible - felt cheated of a drink. Our room service Mai was good. Alex the cruise director was good. Embarkment was slow. Liked the way they had the drill in various places & not standing on the deck as before. Disembarkment was also slow. Read Less

Our cruise started out with a very smooth embarkation process. Within 15 minutes or less of arriving at the terminal, we were on the boat. We had about an hour to kill before our room would be ready so we took a tour of the ship and grabbed some lunch. Buffet was what you'd expect. (My son was gone over a half an hour and we finally texted him to find out where he was. He was standing in line for Mongolian BBQ. This seems to be a fairly standard wait for that particular food choice. I did stand in line and wait for it once and it was tasty but I opted not to choose this option again. ) We had two rooms on the Deck 6, both balcony rooms. They were clean and comfortable. Our steward Gerald was extremely helpful and friendly. Rooms were tidied once a day which I felt was more than adequate. New beach towels were left frequently which was really appreciated since they don't dry that quickly even hanging on your balcony chairs. There was a weird smell along the hallway on Deck 6. Something like a sewer/rotten egg small. Not sure what it was was, but just thankful it wasn't too close to our rooms. Our balcony was located one floor up from the Guys BBQ place and the whirlpool. Generally speaking it was fine, but on one occasion a rowdy group of people were in the whirlpool using awful language to the extent that I had to send my 11 year old daughter inside. Dinner in the Crimson Restaurant was our favorite daily meal. Our servers Lidia, Edi and Holif were very friendly and accommodating. I find the walk through the Casino to be fairly annoying with the smell of cigarette smoke. It filters through to the Ocean Plaza area which is a spot we really enjoy spending time in. The Alchemy Bar was our favorite bar with some really inventive and delicious drink choices. They also put out little bar snacks on our last night on the ship which was great. The entertainment on the ship was really good. We thoroughly enjoyed all of the shows we saw with the highlight for me being Flick. Don't miss out on this one! The entertainers are all very talented. The music in the theatre is played at a DEAFENING level so go prepared with ear plugs unless you prefer to not be able to hear the rest of the evening. Kids loved the waterslides and pool area. We loved the Serenity lounging area. Deembarkation fairly smooth process. It was quick getting off the ship but long lines to get through luggage and customs. All in all a great trip and lots of fun on the Dream! Montego Bay We opted for the Dolphin Encounter. You will stand around for a bit in the port hall waiting for your group to be called. Our tour guide Elizabeth was very pleasant and funny and I really felt that she was looking out for us during our trip. We got about 30 minutes in the water with the dolphins which was very cool. Food was available to purchase although we opted just for drinks (I recommend a Ting and rum!). Photos of your experience are available for purchase but they are outrageously priced. It would have been upwards of $200 to get a photo of each member of our party (6 people) with a dolphin. After the encounter, we were taken to a beach for about an hour and a half. Within 10 seconds of setting foot on the beach, we were accosted by people selling things. My daughter wanted braids and got them on this beach. The water here was lovely but I did not enjoy this beach experience and was happy to return to the ship. Grand Cayman We chose the Sting Ray City family tour. Staff on this tour were very friendly and informative. Quick bus ride to the marina and then we were off to the location for sting rays. We all got to hold and feed the sting rays. This portion of the excursion lasted about an hour or so. There was enough time left after this excursion to wander the port area. We got lunch at a place called Rackams which was very tasty and the views could not be beat. You can actually jump in the water and snorkel right in the water next to the restaurant. We got to feed our leftover food to the tarpons which hang around the restaurant. After lunch, we walked to the beach right near port and jumped in the water. Grand Cayman was our favorite port by far. Cozumel We walked around this port area for a bit before our excursion. There are alot of shops and restaurants. We ventured a bit further outside the port area and were approached by many folks trying to sell us stuff. We did the Catamaran/Snorkel/Beach excursion. This one was alot of fun! Quick catamaran ride to a snorkeling point. They have a photographer who will take photos of you underwater and then you have the option to buy the photos on the boat (A very reasonable $12 per print, I thought). After snorkeling, the booze comes out.. margaritas, beer and soda is served. The margaritas were missing alcohol...lol.. stick to the beer! A short boat ride to a private beach followed. We got about an hour and a half to spend here.. This was a fun time! There is food for purchase. One choice only.. cheeseburgers with a few cold salads for $11. It was fine. The margarita and beer continues to flow and is free. There are inflatable water toys to climb on and slide down and the kids and I really enjoyed this. They also have kayaks and paddle boards to use for free. I would absolutely recommend this excursion to anyone. It was alot of fun. Read Less

We chose the Dream because we went on the Freedom two yrs ago and wanted to try something else. By far the Freedom was a lot better ship. I guess the time we went out there was a lot of children and so disrespectful and rude . They ran up and down the halls yelling and would not let an elder get by they would just stand in the way like someone owned them something. Room service was nothing like the Freedom, we only got our room freshened up one time a day on the Dream and on the Freedom it was every time we walked in or out of our room. We had to repeatedly ask for things and ice . The service in the Bar was the best they remembered our names and we met new friends there. Romela, Aundre, I Wayne, and Carlton was the best ever . Was very disappointed in Costa Maya and Belize I will recommend the Freedom over the Dream. The entertainment was not half as good as the Freedom seems like there was so much more to do on the Freedom. Will not recommend the 9th floor lol we was right under the lounge and heard every move Read Less

I was impressed with Embarkation, we were out of New Orleans, and everything moved pretty quickly. My two adult children were cruising together and it was great to have the family time. There were so many great nighttime activities for young adults that both really had a great time. For me, Carnival gets a little "same" The food is definitely better than Norwegian, and we enjoyed the Pizza and Soft Serve Ice Cream. Some things have changed not for the better: I had to request a robe for my stateroom, the Cappuccino is no longer free in the Main Dining room. We sat at a large table and that was nice when the other people were there. While not the most gourmet, I could always find something good to eat for dinner. We found that we preferred the main dining room for breakfast, as the buffet got so crowded. The itinerary was good, although I think I have visited Cozumel way more than I need to. In Isla Roatan we did the SuperMan Zipline and even in the rain it was fun and a rush. The beach break after was a little disappointing, but that was more about it being cold and gloomy. I had a balcony cabin across from my children and they gave them a key so we could enjoy the balcony together and I didn't have to run to open the door all of the time. The cabin steward and dining service were pretty good. Read Less

Being my first cruise - I learned as the journey continued. Note: My United seat was too small and chairs too close to my knees for me to get out. I would have enjoyed my cruise more if I had "thought" about there being a doctor on the cruise. Because of the hurt sacrum and arthritis, I needed to stop more often. Therefore, I would have LOVED having somewhere to sit on each floor. Even if it was near the elevator. There were very, very few places to sit along the passageways. This would be helpful especially to us older or partially handicapped people. Some people just "loved" the cruise director. Since this was my first cruise, I did not have a previous director to compare him to. As for me, I found his English accent very annoying to my ears and you heard it all over the ship - everywhere all the time. Some people loved him. So I am sure he was very good. Even if you are not ready for a wheelchair (like me) you might consider getting a partially handicapped room if you stumble over things or trip a lot. The reason I say that is the first cabin I was in (like 1202) the restroom floor was raised up about six inches. I had to put the lime green cups in the doorway so I would remember to step up the extra height each time I went into the restroom of my cabin. I went to play bingo - one time. It was very expensive. Also - if you were not the only person who won that game, you had to split the pot with whoever won also. I SURE WISH I HAD BEEN TOLD there was a free shuttle that would take me from the ship into Nassau. It was not a really long trip but it was stifling hot. Also, once you entered into the building to get to town, you could not turn back. You had to go through the building and enter the other side and stand in line to wait for the shuttle back to ship or I guess to walk out and walk back to ship. Not sure how I should have handled having my baggage taken to the bus I was to get on to go from pier to airport --- but I am sure going to find out on my next cruise in December 2018. I went down early and took them myself. Little knowing I would have to stop and start and stop and start for a very, very long ways from ship back and forth through corridors to get to the bus for airport. Surely I could have paid to have my bags put on the bus and me just walk it. I will figure this out at beginning of my next cruise. I was on this first cruise by myself. I am very friendly and so were others but I made sure that I have someone with me for my next cruise and it seemed too long by being alone. I began in cabin 11202 but woke up in wee hours with rocking of ship. Went to guest services and they graciously moved me to another room the next morning. Mucho better. Thank you. Read Less

We took our 3 children and our son in law on this cruise as what would probably be our last family vacation together. All four of them are older than 21 so even though they're are children, they aren't really kids. We chose this cruise because my wife and I took the exact same cruise in September, 2016 and really enjoyed it. The ship and the crew are fantastic. Our cabin steward, Joel, was terrific in taking care of us and making sure that we had everything we needed. The venues were very nice and the Alchemy Bar was a very nice surprise with the different types of drinks that they made. The live shows were pretty good-a few clunkers here and there but for the most part very entertaining. Dining was terrific as always. The main dining room has wonderful food and the staff there (we had several different ones) were all on top of their game. It's nice when you get friendly and good service from multiple individuals and not just one person. The only real drawback to the cruise were the number of younger (18 or less) on the ship. We chose the Memorial Day holiday week thinking that most kids would still be in school but we totally missed that one! Lots of kids on senior trips and taking vacations with their parents. It made it very hard to get a place at the pool or find seating in the Lido buffet. I think the next cruise we take, we'll probably do a little more research and find one more appropriate for our age. Other than that, the cruise was very good and the ship's crew was once again outstanding. Read Less

My first cruise with my family. (Children are In Their 20’s)Some amazing experiences exploring the ports and the ship. Roatan was our favorite port because of Bodden Tours and our private tour! Loved Monkey business and playing with the monkeys. Vanilla was $1 at the supermarket and we found an amazing private spot to snorkel. This was our favorite port! We enjoyed the Krazy Lobster in Costa Maya. We made the mistake of “committing” to a beach club before we arrived in the little strip. The taxi driver told us Krazy Libster has bad water. Haha. Just take a taxi to the Krazy Lobster. Free beach access and the best food. Cozumel was so touristy, but we had fun at club Aszu, where there were clear kayaks. Our tour driver in Belize took us to aTravelers Rum and a great tour of the city’witb Anthony. The kids did the Carnival Mayan tour in Belize and they said it was almost 2 hours on a bus and only 30 minutes at the ruins. I loved our place on the ship, deck one riveria mid ship. We were on and off easily and I heard no outside noise. It did get warm on several nights. The food was good, maybe a little blander than we expected. The kids thought it needed hot sauce. I over packed. I would only bring one suitcase next time. People didn’t dress like I expected them to. They were much more casual. Lots of young children too. I will definitely cruise again in a few years. I think this is the way to go with big extended families. Read Less

We chose this cruise based on the convenience of leaving from New Orleans, as well as the date. Stayed in cabin 9384 and was pleased with location and cleanliness. We never saw our steward (Papas) in our cabin, but it was always clean with fresh towels and ice.The entire ship was kept very clean, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We enjoyed most of the food, especially the breakfast buffet, pizza, Guy's burgers and Blue Iguana. The MDR had a few meals that were excellent and a few meals that were disappointing. The MDR soups were our favorite. We enjoyed speaking with Agnes (with the cute dimples) in the Gathering on several occasions. There were several other staff members that we enjoyed speaking with as well...including Alina, Sergi, Arianty, and Marlon in the MDR. Ports were okay. We stayed within the ports when in Costa Maya, Roatan and Cozumel, because my elderly mother's hips were bothering her with too much walking. In Roatan, we took the flying chairs to the nearby free beach (free lounge chairs available). The water was very nice and clean so we enjoyed taking a dip. We enjoyed the Belizian Foodie Excursion which we chose for my mother's sake, as very little walking or sun was involved. We sampled 5 or 6 Belizian dishes that were similar to Mexican food, then took a bus tour through town to a local fruit stand where we sampled 4 or 5 fruits (including a custard apple, which I had never even heard of before). Last, we stopped at an open-air seaside restaurant where we made ceviche. I thought I disliked ceviche, but it was delicious. We also enjoyed a couple of weak rum drinks and an unusual fruit salad that was very good. Read Less

We chose the Carnival Dream because we been on fantasy class and wasn't too impressed at all. We loved this ship! The only negatives I have is the great restaurants wasn't open long enough at all! On port days they were open till 3:30 but we still had to hurry to get there before they closed. The main reason to pick certain ships is the offerings of activities and food places. Carnival needs to reconsider this option in future to stay open later. Also, I got a voucher first night for a free drink because I am a gold member and wasn't allowed to use it till last night after 5pm! I think that is ridiculous on our 7 night cruise. Carnival should be ashamed for that tactic i love Carnival but things need to be changed I think. I was excited to become a gold member this cruise and it was stingy with a drink they sell all the time. I think there should be better music choices also, newer music on lido deck. The cruise director Lee Mason was awesome! He was energetic and always had activities going on. Please Carnival fix some of these issues! We thought about going with Nowegian to knows in the future. We chose this cruise because of the proximity to our home, We could drive, and the date of sail met our needs. We were skeptical after seeing reports on national news about flooding on upper floors due to a broken pipe. No need to worry, the ship was in great shape! We, my wife. daughter and I, shared a room with a balcony, but we had plenty of space and enjoyed the view sitting in our private area. If you don't like people or crowds, don't sail on Carnival! The ship was full of passengers, but never overbearing, just plan ahead for what you want to do. If you want to have fun take this ship! The cruise director is fully engaged, and we enjoyed everything that was available, there was plenty to do all the time.. I had intended to try the Alternative dining restaurants, but the food offerings in the Main dining room were so good I never left; every dish was well cooked and presented; this was the best of any cruise I have taken. Service was great by the staff, friendly and attentive. The other eateries were very good too! Guy's burgers, the pizzeria, the deli, etc., are all good. We did not get to sample all that was available. We still found quiet spots on the ship for alone time. The excursions were good, we enjoyed the Dolphin swim and Stingray city in Grand Cayman, and horseback riding in Montego Bay. Cozumel we made our way around the island with a cab. We scheduled excursions on the ship and were comfortable moving about on the main streets. We would take this cruise again, and hope other Carnival ships are this good. .. . . Read Less

We chose the Carnival Dream because it was within driving distance and priced within my budget! The process was simple and Carnival was very helpful throughout the process. I even booked and canceled two excursions and money was refunded on both with no problems. I booked a cove balcony (2937) and absolutely loved the privacy. The only complaint was the room was loud at night it sounded like tables dragging above us at night. This is why I only gave 4 stars. Service was great! Carlos our room service guy was super helpful changing batteries in my TV remote and giving us free laundry detergent when the dispenser did not work. Our evening waiter ALAN was the man! He was well read and we had very interesting conversation throughout the week. I actually miss the guy lol! The FLYING SCOTSMAN! The cruise director was amazing. So talented! You must see this guy in person to understand. Entertainment! The ENCORE productions in the evening were the highlight of my day! FLICK was fabulous! You must check it out for yourself! Everyone gave their all to you every evening and I loved it. Excursions and Ports! Montego Bay was terrible but to be fair I didn't book an excursion! I probably read to much about the travel advisory before going there lol! Grand Cayman was awesome did the stingray city and loved it! Cozumel well we shopped and shopped and shopped! My overall experience was great! I relaxed had a good time and met a lot of great people! I will book again! Read Less

Food was good some days and not so great other days, but their was always something you could find to eat that you would like. The only problem I had was some peoples children walking around with their foul language mouths and rude, which is not carnivals problem but the parents problem. Loved the comedy shows, they played movies at night on the lido deck, they had an 80s party and a mega deck party. Overall, we had an amazing time and will definitely do it again. It was a great cruise due to the great staff. First the Flying Scotsman (Chris Williams) cannot be beat! He did a one hour one man show on the last afternoon that went from Elvis to Italian Opera (an Impossible Dream in between plus many others!). Our housekeeping Team, Arry and Lulu, did everything we wanted and needed! Arry made me a new towel animal every day and let me keep them for the whole cruise. My favorite was a bird in a swing with a piece of bubble gum in his mouth! The wait staff was excellent - Putra, Arlianty (Leah) and Hannifi. Leah gave me extra scallops and made me Mickey Mouse chocolate melting cakes (with 2 ice creams). We had a lot of seafood - even extra lobster tails!!! Putra danced with my grandsons which made it special! With all the eating I was shocked that I had lost a pound! But we also did a lot of walking! Maghogany Bay was an excellent beach especially if you get a cabana but book early! They get sold out. The ecopark on Belize was a good tour as you can see a lot of the lay of the land and hear history of the people of Belize. We just shopped in Cozumel since we had been at that port several times before. We did pick up our bambo sheet set from Cariloha that we won on the Love & Marriage show. The CArnival Dream is VERY big - our first cruise was on a ship with 600 guests which cannot be found any more. I do prefer a smaller ship. The disembarkation was the fastest we have ever done!! Embarkation was even not too bad. We were there at noon. At our age, not sure we will go again but will use Carnival if I do - maybe Cuba??? Read Less

New Orleans is fantastic, stayed 4 nights either side of the cruise. Embarkation was organised and so was disembarkation. I liked :- The ship itself- it’s lovely, the ships decor, cabin was good size with ample storage, cabin steward very nice, dining room, theatre ( good special effects), live band & the brass trio, Guys burgers were delicious as was the smoke house, Indian and Italian lunchtime food. I wasn’t so happy with dining room service being so slow although the staff were super and the food delicious ,the desserts looked lovely but didn’t always taste as good as they looked and I felt they went mad with gelatine in them, our pillows and sheets smelt quite unpleasant and I asked for new pillows but they smelt the same so must have been what they were washed with. I also got small itchy spots all over my arms and legs but my husband didn’t. I thought perhaps I was allergic to the sheets??. They went as soon as we left the ship. Getting on and off the ship was very smooth on excursions. I didn’t think the excursions were good value as they brought you back to ship so early. We went to one place and just had time to get round it quickly then had to head back to the ship which didn’t leave for 3 hours. We went to another which was a beach and spent hardly any time on the beach at all. In future I’d organise that myself. We went to a midnight film and really enjoyed that, perhaps the bar staff could have been a little quieter as they were shouting, laughing and crashing about lol! Luckily not all the way through the film :) The comedy room was really good and very popular- lucky to get a seat in there so paid to be early. The shows were good but the singing was iffy (harmonies mainly) at times. The entertainment director Chris was fantastic, he put his heart and soul into everything he did, he’s such a hard worker! I think I’d opt for anytime dining in the future, we spent so long in the dining room it took over the evenings so we went to the buffet a couple of times. One big gripe was the bar service, not enough staff so long waits at times, then they’d disappear with your card so another wait then sign - why don’t they just scan your card which they do when you get on or off the ship. It would save all the waiting and paperwork. All in all though, we still had a smashing time, we were on holiday so chilled out and went with the flow. The ship is great for kids, they were all having a ball and the special clubs looked fabulous, the waterworks were brilliant too. I must also add that every single time I used a restroom anywhere on the ship they were spotless and actually very attractive, like hotel ones! I’d definitely go again so it couldn’t have been that bad even with the couple of gripes that we had! I’ve tried to be as fair as I can, we really enjoyed ourselves. Read Less

Have been wanting to go on another cruise for years. Friends were booking a trip on Carnival Dream and asked if my friend and I would like to join them. So glad we did. The ship was clean and there was so much to do. It was particularly windy during most of our time at sea but we still enjoyed time on deck and playing the trivia contests in the Ocean Plaza I even won a Ship on a Stick for the Golden Girls Trivia Contest. The movies by the pool at night were really fun. The food was good though not the greatest. However, our servers, Francis and Wenscislaw were wonderful and were more than helpful if we requested something. My one complaint would be the temperature of the hot tubs. Many of them were cool and some were just simply luke warm. By our final night at sea, the hot tub on the Serenity Deck was finally at a decent temperature. I would definitely cruise Carnival again. Read Less

The staff is what made this cruise really special. The dining staff was amazing. The guest services staff was amazing. The food was as expected. It wasn't the best thing I've ever tasted in the world, but I really can't complain. They are feeding around 5,000 people several times a day. The shows were really good. You have a lot of chances to win prizes. Everything in the shops is overpriced, even when they say you're getting a good deal. The only really good deal you're getting is with alcohol (when you buy bottles from the shop). I didn't think the alcohol drink package was necessary. We pre-ordered $100 bottle of Malibu room to our room, and we brought a 2 bottles of wine and 2 12 packs of mixers (between the two of us). This lasted us for the entire cruise. We did order around 1-2 drinks a day from the bar while at sea. Excursions: At Cozumel, we did the salsa and margarita making excursion. The hotel and view we had during this excursion was GORGEOUS. This is definitely an excursion for someone who has a low activity level. You get endless margaritas, but they have no sugar in them. We weren't a big fan of the margaritas. You will definitely get drunk very quickly. Learning how to make salsa was fun. The hotel we were at had wifi, which was nice. The bathrooms are pretty small, but the entire place is kept very clean. You are able to stay for an hour after the event and use the hotel's pool and man-made beach, but we elected to go back to the port. At the port we shopped and had a really good time. At Belize, we did not do an excursion, but we should have. In Belize, they do not have a big port that cruise ships can go into. You have to take a smaller boat to get to the island. This was a 2 hour process. There are a few shops and restaurants to explore. I recommend booking an excursion, because otherwise Belize is kind of boring. At Roatan, we booked a beach day at Mahogany Bay which included: beach chairs, umbrella, and pool/ocean floats. This was by far my favorite. I suggest getting out there as soon as possible to find good seats. We were at the front row right in front of the ocean. We took a ski-lift to get to the beach which provided amazing views. I really enjoyed that. Read Less

Departing from New Orleans was interesting as I had no idea how far the port actually was from the ocean. Our balcony cabin had plenty of room to spread out and also for storage. Dining room food was generally very good and the service was top notch. I particularly liked Guy’ Burger Joint (LOVE their fries) and also the BBQ place (I don’t recall the name.) The buffet, especially at breakfast, was really good—really enjoyed the custom omelet station. On sea days the pool area was very crowded and sometimes it was hard to find a place to sit. Entertainment was pretty good, but it would have been nice to have had more options for activities during the day. Unfortunately, the hot tub we visited wasn’t working well. The water was only lukewarm and so with the wind on the deck, it made for a chilly (and pretty unfun) experience. All in all, a pleasant cruise and a relaxing week. Read Less

This was a wonderful trip. I have not sailed on Carnival in 10 years and my boyfriend had never been on Carnival before this trip. We spent one night pre-cruise in New Orleans at Hampton New Orleans Convention Center, it was very convenient and offered a free shuttle to the port you just had to sign up at the desk. The quickest embarkation we have ever experienced. The terminal was organized and the employees were polite and knowledgeable. The food was great, there were always plenty of choices and if you didn't like something it was encouraged for you to order something different. Our cabin was plenty big for 2 adults and offered lots of storage. Activities we participated in were fun, we tried every bar, lounge, saw every show and each comedian and the piano bar. There was never a lack for options. We enjoyed the ports and excursions very much and felt the value was worth the experience. Disembarkation was simple and organized, it even started a little earlier than expected based on the documentation we were provided. Read Less

Feb. 3, 2018 Day One, my Wife and I arrive at the Days Inn Gretna, La. one day earlier than our Cruise, this is our normal routine. As we check in I notice things are getting run down and in disrepair, the continental breakfast that is still advertised is no longer available and the lounge has been turned over to a private contractor and did not even open. Our room looked ok but had water spots on the ceiling and a stale odor. The room next to ours had several screaming kids from what appeared to be a family living in the hotel (not a good night). The Days Inn is a park and cruise hotel, but this was definitely our last stay. Our next cruise is scheduled in May and we are not driving, instead taking the train from Memphis. Embarkation was fairly smooth had an issue with removing all the metal before passing through the detector. Once onboard we just sat in the theater for about an hour, this is to let all the (me first) I am (in a hurry) people try to get to (where ever) before anyone else. When you first get on breath and try to relax! This was our 4th cruise on the Carnival Dream and our second cove balcony. The Dream for us is a very entertaining and fun ship, Capt. Bovo and the crew were fantastic, Our cabin 2354 Main deck had a little noise, but nothing like what I had read on another post, if you want total silence visit the onboard morgue! The cuisine has improved with the return of Lobster and our servers (always changing due to anytime dining) were great. The entertainment was very good but we missed Chris Williams our Cruise Director from past cruises on the Dream. The port day's my wife and I stayed onboard, we have the ship to ourselves, no wait elevators or food lines. The truth is my wife broke both sides of her cervical just before our cruise in September 2017. We are on the Dream again in August and November 2018 hope to see everyone then. We went on our Honeymoon cruise out of New Orleans due to location. We could drive :] Also visit with my mom and dad in Prairieville. We had a blast from the time we entered the waiting area, we met great people and had fun talking about everything to past cruises and where the people lived. It went by fast and very organized to get us all on the ship. I also had forgot and left our sodas in our check in bags but our porter said no problem. It was still in the bags when we got to the room at 1:30pm and No sooner LOL. The ship is beautiful and I loved the Mardi gras theme throughout the ship. Our balcony room was fantastic with plenty of room, I think even if you had three people in that room it would be fine. I enjoyed our cruise director Brian, he worked very hard and made the trip so much fun. The steakhouse was well worth the extra on the first night and they gave us a wonderful red wine. My husband loved it, I don't drink. Food was perfect ever time. i have my steaks well done and they still could be cut with a fork. My husband likes his rare and loved the food. Food was great in Guys and Blue Iguana. I never complained about any of the food on lido, especially the soft frozen yogurt!!! Wow it was good, my favorite dish was in the Scarlet dining room Melting Lava Cake! A must try! I had it each night even when we had th Baked Alaska. Our waiters Aldin, Ryan and Anthony kept briniging us whatever we needed and sometimes what we didn't. Ha ha my husband one night decided against desert, I pouted and Aldin brought it to go for me. I was laughing so much and they really made dinner a fun event! I miss everyone and Pat our room steward !!! One issue and the only issue was the drain in shower would plug and water was all over bathroom floor. I felt bad using so many towels but that was nothing that would spoil my trip and it was fixed. I actually scared myself and the repair man when I walked in the room when we was fixing it. We all had a great laugh. We also did the self disembarkation and it was ok too, just had to take our luggage down 8 flights because someone didn't want to wait on the elevator. Most were closed. ! Can't wait to travel on the Dream again soon. Taking mom next time :] Read Less

We have enjoyed many cruises with Carnival and 3 on the Dream. We chose this cruise because it was going to Key West. We choose cruises by destination. We like to go new places and see different and interesting things. We like the Burgundy Lounge comedy and the Encore shows on the Dream. Breakfast in the Scarlet Restaurant is great. The BlueIguana Cantina, the Mongolian Wok, Tandoor and Guy's Burger Joint are all excellent. There is so much to do it can be hard to decide where onboard to go to next. There are a lot of choices for shore excursions. Our child (daughter) is 25 and we hope to be empty nesters someday. She stayed home while we went on this cruise. The service on Carnival is outstanding, everyone is so very friendly and helpful. The only disappointment with this cruise was the room. This was the first time I used Carnival Cruise for assistance booking this cruise. Bad mistake! Never again! Book on your own! Was not allowed to choose a room, was tole that he would insure we got a great room. Worst room I have ever had on a cruise! I thought Elvis was there, A WHOLE LOT OF SHAKING GOING ON! During leaving or entering port the room would shake so bad that things were falling off of the desk. The room was so far from the Encore we did not have to visit the jogging track or gym. Got plenty of exercise on this cruise. Sure we look forward to more cruises in the future, just not with help from Vladimir at Carnival. Read Less

We (mid 60s) decided to take our daughter(30) and son-in-law (40) on a cruise. We have been on several cruises, first time for them. The main reason we picked the Dream out of New Orleans was because we wanted a long day in Key West (8-5). Our son-in-law is an avid fisherman and we wanted to fish in Key west. We flew down on Saturday January 27th. We took a cab from the Airport to Maison Dupuy Hotel in the French Quarter. We selected this hotel as it is close to French Quarter Phantoms and we had two walking tours booked through them. It was pouring rain when we got to the hotel. We planned on going to Jackson Square to spend the afternoon, but because of the rain we ended up at Audubon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium. We thoroughly enjoyed the insectarium, not impressed with the Butterfly Garden, have seen better. It had stopped raining when we got out so we walked down Bourbon Street to get back to the hotel. The kids went to the Museum of Death, which they seemed to enjoy. We had a 6:00 ghost tour with French Quarter Phantoms, excellent tour and guide, we had a great time. The kids were hungry afterwards, so we missed the parade. We walked to the Bayou Burger and Sports Company and had great burgers (our daughter does not eat seafood or spicy creole). Sunday we had a 10:00 Cemetery Tour with French Quarter Phantoms, again, an excellent tour and guide. We then picked up our bags from the hotel and took a cab to the ship. Probably took about 45 minutes to get on the ship, we never sat down, just wound around in various lines. We all ate at Pasta Bella, great food and no crowd. Then we all went to our cabins to drop off our carry ons. Part of our luggage was there. We split up to do our own exploring. This is the first time I have had a cove balcony. I loved being close to the water, but the balcony was always covered in salt and wet. I won't do that again. First time doing anytime dining, won't do that again either. We selected anytime as we like to eat early and they like to eat late. We ended up eating together about 3 times. We always had to wait to get a table, even if we went at 6:00. We also could not ever get the same wait staff. I would much prefer a set time with no wait and the same wait staff. Food in the dining room was excellent, service was great (3 times), average (3 times) and terrible (1 time). My husband and I loved the stage shows, the singers and dancers were very talented. The kids did not care for the stage shows (what was the point? is what she said about Flick). We all loved the comedy club, though two shows we never found a seat. They enjoyed the live music. Brandon (cruise director), Legs 11, and Sunny (entertainment) were great. I had not been to Quest for many years, has become much more risque, if you are easily offended DO NOT GO. Luckily our daughter elected not to go as she would have been mortified. Unfortunately, the weather was cool, so you could find a seat at the pool anytime and even clamshells at Serenity. Lunches and breakfasts were good at Lido, but lines were too long at Mongolian Wok and Guy's BBQ, never wanted to wait that long. We were asked whether we wanted morning or evening service by the steward, I selected morning, the kids selected evening (so they could sleep in). I don't have a problem with having one service a day, but when I select morning I expect the room to be cleaned in the morning. Several times it was after noon, I am not happy with that. One day we came back to no towels, another day we came back to two bath towels (I told steward I always wanted 3, an extra to wash my hair). There was dust on the top shelves in the bathroom. Definitely corners have been cut there. We also had the Hub, loved that for the menus and days events. Chat did not work well, my husband and I got about 80% of the messages, my daughter got about 10%, our son-in-law 5%. Key West, the main reason for taking this trip was the fishing. called our captain as we were approaching the dock and he canceled the trip due to high winds. Based on the forecast we had seen, I was not surprised, but everyone was disappointed. We ended up doing the shops, kids did the Ripley's museum. Key Lime pie on a stick at Kermits is a must! In Freeport we booked the kayak and nature tour through Carnival, this was the best excursion. We had a great guide, super fun kayaking and about 90 minutes at a beautiful beach. Lunch was very poor, but based on the reviews I expected that. In Nassau, the kids wanted to ride on the beach, I booked this as an independent tour. Our daughter really enjoyed it (experienced horsewoman) our son-in-law not so much. The guide harassed him about horsemanship (heels down, sit up). Again we were warned on trip advisor that this could happen. We took the walking food and culture tour, it was fantastic. Great guide, great food, lots of interesting information. Again it was booked independently and I would highly recommend it. Disembarkation was fine, just walked through customs. This was the first time for us on Dream class, we really liked it. In fact we have a December cruise booked on Magic for our son, daughter in law, and two grand kids. Read Less
