We will never cruise Norwegian Cruise Lines again. They were very expensive but low quality compared to any other cruise line we've sailed. Didn't even include water or coffee in their vert expensive drink package. Even their Specialty dining was terrible. They nichol and dime you to death....literally bill you for 20% gratuities. We were with a friend group of 7, and we all agreed we will never sail Norwegian again. The only thing good we have to say about Norwegian is they had the best on board Musicians we have seen on a cruise, and our room stuard was excellent. They had the most inconsistent mixed drinks I have ever had. They say they care about customers satisfaction, but it is apparent that their profit is their only true concern. We had a back to back transatlantic 24 day cruise and never saw a person win a decent prize at bingo even though they charged more for bingo than any other cruise line. Read Less

worst vacation ever!!!!!! Forst time my husband and i ever cruised and it will be our last. Wasted our money wish we couldve been reimbursed thats how bad it was !! We prepaid for things such as a package of waterbottles and chocolate covered strawberries which we didnt get until2 days later and staff was so unhelpful just kept passing the ball back and forth.Shore excursion staff was extremely rude. Bartenders at top siders also very rude. Food was horrific. Drinks were horrible. Staff not friendly. excursions and days off port were cut short. Couldnt do everything we wanted to do. Had to get reimbursed for one excursion. Found a bug in our salad at osheehans. Alizar was served a frozen steak and paella had no rice in it. Had to speak to managers constantly at places for terrible service. The list goes on and on. I am so discouraged with this cruise for me and my husband we paid good money for this cruise and it all went out the window. Very disappointed. Read Less

During my first two days on the cruise I got food poisoning from O'sheerans bar and grill. The boat was terrible because the rooms were so small and the food was so fake and awful! The boat itself had not much to do on it. It was my boyfriends first time on a cruise and this made him not want to cruise again. The ship did not sail smooth at all. I told staff about this awful experience and they did not care. Everything is so expensive on the ship and a rip-off. I would NOT recommend this to anybody at all. I am very upset with my experience. The staff was nice but the food was terrible and wasn't cook correctly. Shore excursions are so expensive and not worth it at all. Please do not purchase when you can get transportation or things on the island for cheaper. This cruise line tries to get your money. I hope that they really fix this ship and the problems because I am sure many people have felt the same way as I did about this trip. Read Less

I chose this cruise because it was 10 day and covered 6 ports. I was originally on the Jade for the November 16th fiasco. This was my first cruise ever and the experience was just as the title suggest. 'Nightmare' I can start off my saying there is simply no thought process or communication. First port of San Juan we get back begin the to prepare for our shower when the captain comes over with a message that basically said " Cruise is over and have a great life" this caused complete chaos. The guest relations desk only had 1 person on staff at that time of night. That is where I first noticed the incompetence of this cruise line. You should know people are going to have questions so as you can imagine the line for that one person was about 200 deep. We were told originally there are 1 staff for every 2 guest. I know a lot of these are wait-staff, housekeeping etc. but there are enough staff on that ship that interact with people to have come up with a better game plan. They should have thought about this and typed up some documents with anticipated questions and answers and staffed at least a dozen or so staff at the guest relations station and surrounding area to assist the quest. Also there was never a clear communication of what was going to happen. The captain said everyone would have to be off by Tuesday but staff was informing that if you were not flown off prior to that day then they would not simply 'kick you off the ship' which is exactly what happened! You could as 3 staff members the same question btw and get 3 completely different answers. It was also communicated that your room number could be called and when it was you have to be packed and ready to go in 20 minutes so we could not even enjoy anything on the ship while we waited for our room number to be called or Tuesday to come. So when Tuesday did come we were part of a group that were treated like refugees and shipped to a convention center in San Juan. Also note that people on a cruise usually aren't packed to fly so a lot of people had 4 or 5 suitcases for a 10 day cruise. Norwegian and its 1 staff per 2 guest never offered to assist passengers off the ship down this dilapidated staircase in San Juan. We met an 80 yo man on his first cruise also "Children had paid to send him on it" No one helped the elderly or handicapped with their bags! No one! I had 5 bags or I would have tried. I have pictures of this BTW! To wrap this one up I was never reimbursed as promised I'd be! I live in Florida so I did not have a lot of expense once were flown back to Miami. We were sent a $99 check to cover, rental car 82.80, taxi service 12, gas for the rental 25.00, hotel deposit that night in Miami 50.00 and breakfast at Denny's. 16.96.I still have the receipts. Norwegian also closed my case. I also spoke to their guest relations Patricia Tamarit in February regarding Case # 02246443 and was told this was being looked into and was taken very serious! Still haven't heard anything from her. Again the great Norwegian customer service that we received on their ship! So we did the make up cruise March 1st. I went on with a bad taste in my mouth because I know I am sailing without a company that doesn't care. Bothered to offer me nothing btw, I'll be 100% honest I am used to doing business with local companies that offer you something with they know they dropped the ball. BTW Norwegian could have offered us an onboard credit, Free dinner at one of the upgrade restaurants, free excursion or something but they truly could careless about how you feel about them. March 1st my room looked like crap when we arrived. My mattress looked like a camel. The safe was not functioning and the numbers unreadable. They did replace the mattress and safe as I refused to leave the guest relations but of course as luck would have it my new suitcase was completely ruined. When it arrived to the room looked as if it had been sliced with a razor. I brought it down to the guest relations and was told to allow their "carpenter" to look at it. he would have it back in one day. 3 days later when it was returned to me it looked as if a 10 yo had attempted to spot glue 3 sections. I told the girl at the guest relations that I was unsatisfied with this. She got nasty and said " You can't expect us to make it brand new again!" I had the same thing happen it the Atlanta airport and was sent to customer relations where I filled out paperwork and was mailed a check. Norwegian did nothing for me. My loss once again for choosing Norwegian. I only rate them one star because I have to pick something. Their wait-staff or horrible. They bring you your food and you never see them again. When you go to the bar to get a refill of pepsi because the waiter is no where to be found, wait-staff like " Adinos" get nasty and tell you basically to go sit down. These rude people should not be allowed to work with public! I talked to the manager and he said " It'll go on his report card" not sure how many chances these people get to speak down to the public. I could go on about their ship but it would sound like bashing at this point. We met 3 out of 1000? decent staff on Norwegian Jade. Bottom line is stay away from Norwegian and if you don't and have a horrible experience then its on you. I have been asking for SOMEONE, ANYONE with Norwegian customer relations to call me. I have given 10 different people my number and they flat REFUSE! They DO NOT CARE! BTW Attempted to add photos is not allowing me to upload on this site.hmmmm Read Less

This was our first Norwegian cruise. So many complaints! 1. Terrible customer service: upon boarding we discovered no drink or specialty dining packages were associated with our reservation, even though we had paid for them. We had booked through a travel agent (USAA Travel Services) and the ship customer service desk refused to help us because we had not booked directly through NCL. Very rudely told us to fix our own problem. After someone from the travel agency called the ship directly and provided proof of the purchase, they still would not fix the problem, told us it would take 2 days (of a 5 day cruise!) to update. 2. So many passengers falling down drunk most of the cruise. Could not take my kids to the family pool because of this. Ship employees did nothing about this and continued serving obviously intoxicated people. 3. Dining room staff indifferent and slow. Food quality uneven and often cold when served. Took at least 2 hours to eat a 3 course meal. 4. Very poor wine list. Mixed drinks were good if you could get served. If you didn’t have a bikini on the bartenders would ignore you completely. 4. Had a mini-suit on deck 11. Woken every morning before 5 due to noise from the buffet above. Very poor housekeeping in our suits. Never once met our steward. 5. The kids club had the weirdest hours. Made it very difficult to utilize. Staff was very rude. 6. The spa staff was forever trying to sell you their products. After a very relaxing massage the spa employee would not let me leave until I listened to her pitch, and then was extremely rude when I told her I wouldn’t buy anything. We will NEVER sail with NCL again!!!! Read Less

This was a surprise trip for my husband and was a Christmas Gift. Our 15th wedding anniversary trip and VERY first cruise and trip without our child. Was supposed to be a romantic / rekindling vacation. Turned out to be a complete nightmare and worst trip we have ever been on. Really really long story short, our flight ended up getting canceled and neither parties were able to rebook us a flight to get to Miami before ship left. Flight got cancelled at 5am but still no one could accommodate us in time to get to Miami. Ridiculous! I called NCL 3 different times to ask what our options were. Option 1, cancel the cruise and only get back port fees and taxes, or option 2, which was pick up ship in Key West. Was told this by 3 different NCL employees. Fine. Spent 2 hours getting flights to Key West, $755 one way from Chicago. Fine. Called NCL back to let them know we'd be getting on the ship in Key West. Employee stated we couldn't get on in Key West. I lost my mind after I just got told by 3 NCL people that we could. She puts me on hold and comes back to say that we can get on in Key West. OK Fine. My husband and I were at the airport about 8 hours before we actually left. About 40 minutes AFTER I booked flights to Key West, the last NCL employee called me back with a manager to NOW tell me that I will incure port fines in Key West for $762pp per the JONES ACT!!!! Why was i never informed this EVER?! And the NCL employees should have ABSOLUTELY said something BEFORE I booked the flight to Key West. I felt totally deceived and taken advantage of. If I would have know that this trip was going to cost me more than double of what I originally paid, I would have just cancelled the cruise before I left Chicago and called it a day. After this, it wasn't it. After hotel costs, ubers, etc. We finally get on ship the following day to be treated like complete crap by the staff because we were now DOWNLINERS! I understand it wasn't the cruise lines fault our flight got cancelled but their customer service was absolutely poor and rude. We have family that take cruise all the time and they have never heard of the Jones Act. Why is this not explained better when you book a cruise, especially when you book directly through the cruise line with their so called "experience agents". Not only this but we were supposed to stop in Great Stirrup Cay but could not, due to high waves. Oh great. Now you have 3000 people stuck on a ship. Everyone was trying to be by the pool area but it was so crowed. They had an entire top deck closed off where no one could sit, 2 hot tubs not working, and people laying on over the deck floors on their towels and we were having to step around. Absolutely terrible! There were lots of other details that were not good either but this review would be 10x as long. Then on the last day, because we were downliners, we had to meet the staff at 6am to be personally escorted off of the ship to customs. And once again, treated like garbage. I've tried to contact NCL several times. Sent a few emails and actually sent a letter to corporate. Glad to know that none of their staff cares about anything. Worst vacation ever, and for sure, no more cruises. Read Less

I have sailed with NCL twice before and each time we have had minor issues but this time it was a total nightmare. Service was well below sufficient, staff was incredibly rude, 2 out of the 11 nights we were awoken at 4am with a technician outside our door for 45 minutes doing some work to try and get the toilets to flush. The boat was extremely rocky to the point that they had to put out barf bags all over the ship. This was obviously not their fault but then I heard from staff members that the stabilizers weren't working? The pool was like a huge wave pool and they left if open much to our surprise. People were flying around and although it may have been fun was extremely dangerous. Finally, during the second day of this they decided that they needed to close it down. There was a kids club and one sports deck as this is an older and smaller ship. They would take the kids out of the kids club to the sports deck and kick all the kids/young adults off the only place on the ship for them to hang out for 1-2 hours at a time. Terrible planning for a Christmas cruise that is obviously going to have children of all ages on the cruise with nothing else to do but play on the sports deck. Some young adults were in the hot tub - well behaved- and simply sitting inside the tub as the sports deck was closed yet again. There were 7 in the tub and 2 sitting on the edge with their feet hanging in the tub. The lifeguard, who was not even watching the kids in the pool most time called security because there were more than 8 kids in the tub (although two were sitting outside the tub)and was going to ticket these kids? What a fiasco. I spoke with the safety supervisor and he was extremely rude to me. He didn't like the way that I was standing while I was talking to him and called me out like I was his child. Keep in mind that I am a grown adult with three teenage children. My husband, on another occasion, was in the public washroom and a cleaning attendant came in and told him to hurry up because she needed to get in there. I don't even know what to say to this one?I spoke with the Staff captian regarding this incident as well as many others that occured - too many to name here and he simply said "oh, sorrry and by the way what nationality are you?" He wanted to know if I was Amrerican because he said that they get sued all the time by the Americans and they have to be careful?! I told him that I was a Canadian - not that it should have made any difference. I have sent an email to NCL and was told the resonse period would be 15 business days. I am at 33 business days! Apparently there is a BACKUP for this particular ship!!! Well that says it all doesn't it? Apparenlty there were mechanical problems on this ship for the two sailings prior to mine (but it appears that they were indeed NOT fixed for my sailing either). So extremly dissappointed in the lack of service both while on the ship and now. We have sailed on over 20 cruises - will never go back to NCL. Read Less

Our family was aboard the ILL-FATED Norwegian JADE cruise, which departed Miami on November 16, 2018. We departed Miami on Friday afternoon, and on Sunday, November the cruise was abruptly terminated in Puerto Rico (our first port of call) due to "mechanical issues." Several crew members told us that the ship's propellers became entangled in FISHING NETS. At around 11:00 pm on Sunday an announcement was made over the ship's P.A. system. The announcement was short and sweet. The ship encountered mechanical problems, the cruise was terminated, and they would open up the wi-fi so passengers could get online to arrange flights home from San Juan. From Sunday night to Monday, the situation became a total fiasco. There appeared to be no one in charge, no one had any useful information, and passengers were left to figure things out on their own. We managed to book our own flights home, but we (along with all other passengers) were then told that no one could help us get our bags off the ship. This made it nearly impossible for many families and elderly people to disembark. Finally, I paid a crew member $60 to help get my bags on a luggage cart and help us disembark via the freight elevator. It has now been THREE WEEKS since the cruise tanked, and still NO WORD FROM NCL. No apology, no email, and NO CREDIT VOUCHER TOWARDS A FUTURE CRUISE, which was promised in writing while still on the ship. I called Norwegian, and they instructed me to go online and fill out a "case" request, and that someone would get back to me within 15 days. Really? That's the best they can do? After spending over $10,000 for a Suite on a 10-night cruise, you would think NCL would be on top of it....but that has not been the case. We did finally receive a refund (processed to our credit card), but nothing else. After something like this occurs, putting thousands of people in a terrible situation, NCL should have immediately had their Customer Service reps email apology letters to everyone on board, and get the refunds and future credit issues sorted out ASAP. We all understand that mechanical issues, fishing nets, and other unexpected events can happen.....BUT, it is how you deal with these issues that makes all the difference. In this case, bad news turned into total chaos on the ship with no one knowing what to do, followed by thousands of Jade guests camping out in the San Juan airport trying to get home. If you are considering a cruise because YOU DON'T LIKE TO FLY, think again. You may end up with no option but flying home if something goes wrong. Sadly, NCL has really dropped the ball. Zero follow up or communication, and a big ZERO from us in terms of customer service and the way this company operates. Read Less

To start off, the ship itself looked plain and their were only a handful of crew members actually smiling and willing to help you if you needed assistance. The cabins were so small that we could barely fit our three packing bags into. If you are over 6 feet tall, you will have a hard time mobilizing inside the cabin or even down the hallways. The buffet was okay, as they seemed to care more about your personal hygiene than feeding more than 4,000 people on the boat. The dining experience was terrible, with you not getting a menu for up to an hour to the really slow service and the lack of enthusiasm within the staff. The food was subpar, and the setting of the restaurants are dull and unpleasant. Not only that, the cruise line had mechanical problems in the engine three days into the voyage, making all the passengers leave the boat for repairs, with many stranded in Puerto Rico. The only positive of the whole thing is that Norwegian is deciding to give our money back. Through all of the hectic and chaos, none of the Staff members were worried about our concern but the people on the cruise was concerned about each other, telling all of us that we could have ran the whole ship by ourselves. If you’re seeking bad customer service, food and an up charge on every little thing you buy, do not go to Norwegian Read Less

I really disliked this cruise and i feel like it’s for older people then it is for the young kids and adults. The workers care more about the old ppl rather than the young. And I’m not ok with that. So glad I’m going home. I couldn’t with the terrible service we got and the disrespect my kids also got from the services. We also had to wait over 3 hours for our plan so we can leave. It started when we boarded the ship in Miami, went to the Grand restaurant for lunch. 2 waiters in our section and neither one wanted to wait on us. In fact they argued in front of our table, in front of other passengers. Never in my life have I been so disrespected, embarrassed and angry. Then we made the mistake of going back to dinner at the Grand and asked for a wine list. We were told by the waiter they don't have a wine list, when we forced the issue with him he came back with a piece of paper with only red wines. When we asked about whites he again said they don't have any. We ordered 2 soft drinks while we looked at the menu and the wine list. After selecting a wine, we order our meal and waited for the soft drinks. The bottle of wine came, when I asked about the soft drinks the waiter said "you still want them"??? Once again we asked to speak to whom ever was in charge of the dinning room. When we spoke to her, she informed us that this is a brand new staff, its there first cruise. We went to the bar and order a gin martini and watch the bartender make it. He gave us a bill for premium gin, he said he used Tangueray, which he didn't and we didn't ask for it either. So we went to the casino for some fun only to be very disappointed once again. At the roulette table the girl running it had no idea what she was doing. I placed a bet on the winning number and she paid a guest at the other end of the table with my winnings. Lucky for me the lady was nice and pushed my winnings back to me. Then we bet on odd, which won, and she raked in all the chips thinking no one won. When everyone at the table started shouting at her that she removed a winning bet she asked how much did we bet. I'm an honest made and told her the truth instead of lying and claiming we bet $200 dollars. But it didn't stop there, she spin the ball out of the wheel 2 straight times. The second time she stopped the game to look for the ball. Her manager told her to play another ball but she decided to look for the ball anyways. The manager said in a very stern and loud voice to play the other ball. Finally the gentleman sitting next to me won and the girl paid him half of the amount he was due. The manager once again got involved and paid the correct amount. We only went back to the casino 2 times on our trip. Next, we went on shore in Bonaire, where we wanted to have a picture taken with the mascot. We decided just to have a selfie taken, next thing we heard was the guy taking pictures yelling at the top of his lungs "No pictures unless you pay for them" We had no idea Norwegian was so desperate for money.. Once again another member of the crew embarrassed us in front of people. So the next day we decided to play trivia, until the girl running the game made 2 homophobic comments. I filed a complaint with the cruise director and with guest relations. They gave me a number to use as a reference so I could follow up. The number is 262336. When I called Norwegian to follow up they told me I had to go on line and file another claim. How ridiculous, you insult me on your ship then you want me to file 2 more claims??? For shame on you, the cruise ship, the girl who made the comments and Norwegian cruise line. This cruise was to celebrate my wedding anniversary, it was the worst experience I have ever had on a cruise ship. Norwegian ruined my anniversary, my vacation and my money. You insulted me, embarrassed me and disrespected me. Read Less

Having cruised with several different cruise lines I think I can honestly say this was the worst and I would never cruise with them again The emphasis to spend money by Norwegian cruise lines is overwhelming. The overpriced gratuities £14pp per day and the additional 20% surcharge imposed upon drinks which are already double the cost of other cruise lines made this seemingly fairly priced cruise an extortionate price in total. In terms of their money grabbing ethics I think I was most disgusted when we arrived in Bergen. Having obviously purchased the cheapest docking bay the Jade was the furthest ship away from town. It was torrential rain when we arrived and rather than putting on shuttle buses for those with poor mobility (I have good mobility so the walk is no problem for me)they were selling cheap thin plastic ponchos for $3 Food in all restaurants was mediocre at best and inedible at worst (I had the toughest steak I've ever been served in one of the non free restaurant Cagneys). There were no vegetables served that weren't stir fried with limited and repetitive choice in the buffet self served on hard plastic plates drinks to be stirred with wooden sticks The entertainment was ok I guess if you like bingo, Mr & Mrs game shows and are keen on passenger humiliation. There are no really nice daytime lounge areas with everything geared around bars or areas where you can spend money. No seating available on the wrap round deck as obviously you can't buy anything there Although only one tender was listed in the cruise itinerary pre booking there were actually 3 tender transfers making it impossible for those with disabilities to go ashore. No explanation was given but it was noticeable that other ships had obviously paid to dock and the Jade had not. Shore excursions ranged between $85 for a walking tour around town to $295 If you want a good cruise at a reasonable price with good service and food then I suggest you look elsewhere and give Norwegian Cruise lines a miss Read Less

We chose this cruise to see the Norwegian Fjords.Norwegian Cruis Line had been highly recommended to us, in fact one friend said that the Norwegian Jade was their favourite ship!?!?!? We were first timers on a cruise and felt quite abandoned and out of our depth! No-one was at the terminal to direct us, or tell us what to do! We eventually discovered things as we went along, and finally managed to make our own way to the ship!! Supposedly, the ship had undergone a refurbishment last year, however, other passengers who had been on the ship before the refurb, could see no evidence of any refurb whatsoever!!!! The ship is like a cruise ferry, and certainly not very luxurious. It was expensive as we had booked a guaranteed balcony room, however, when we got to the room, it was reminiscent of a caravan on a holiday camp!!! The restaurants were of a poor quality, as was the food, which was often cold and tasteless. The entertainment was very poor and, as we thought, was more suited to a working men's social club!!!! Activities amounted to quizzes, bingo, games, crosswords, etc!!! If you like a drink at the bar, accompanied by a night club singer, then you'll be happy on the Jade. . .it's a very expensive way to do it though!!!! The service staff were all very friendly, however, the same could not be said of the ship's crew, who seemed to get out the wrong side of the bed most mornings!!! The excursions were okay, expensive, however, the only way to see the beautiful scenery that the Fjords have to offer! Read Less

I’ve been on 5 cruises and this is by far the worst. I had no idea a ship could be so rocky! Even when it is docked and you go to the gym you can look down the row of treadmills and see a large slope down. I wouldn’t recommend this ship to anyone. Someone is being taken away in an ambulance right now it’s that unstable! Almost all of the food on this ship has meat in it. It says veggie burgers available but that’s one in one place. You can’t even get plaine romaine lettuce at the salad bar unless you want it drenched in unhealthy Caesar salad dressing. I only recommend this ship for people that are looking to have a heart attack! The only good part about this is the drink package, however this does not include water and there are signs everywhere not to fill your water bottle. I’ve never been on another ship that wants the passengers to be dehydrated. Science is against you on this ship! Read Less

Initially we chose this cruise because there were a few ports on the itinerary that we hadn't visited. We really wanted to see Puerto Rico, however because of the hurricane devastation the entire itinerary was changed. We also hadn't been on this ship before. This was our 4th NCL cruise but we had sailed on the Pearl & the Jewel before. This turned out to be our worst experience, by far and it has my wife & I scratching our heads wondering should we even try it again or attempt to reach the next level of our Latitudes membership. We are currently at the Silver level. Here's how it went: After a flight the day before & staying at a Miami hotel overnight, we boarded The Jade hoping for another wonderful 10-day cruise to the So. Caribbean on March 23, however the experience fell wayyyy short of our expectations. From Day#1 problems began to crop up and they multiplied from there. By Day#5 we were both sick (my wife was quarantined with influenza) and we did not take full advantage of our FREE drink pkg, nor or FREE 4 Specialty Dining privileges. The reason we complained to Customer Service, every other day, is because of… 1- A/C was uncontrolled in our cabin and in a few lounges (The Spinnaker & The Bliss, in particular). It was entirely too cold in those venues. My wife even pulled up a hood on her sweatshirt on the 2 nights she tried to enjoy the entertainment. When we went to bed at night we had to pull the blanket over our heads to block the cold air that was blowing. The thermostat was checked by a tech once, but he had to return for a more thorough examination & fix on day #5. By then we both had already begun to sneeze, cough & experience headaches. The nights that I visited the lounges I had to where the only pair of long slacks that I had. It was not a shorts/polo shirt environment. In addition I carried and eventually donned a windbreaker jacket or hoodie. 2- For the first 3 nights of the cruise I/we attended The Bliss lounge for a few drinks and enjoy the band, however that was horribly disturbed by 3 children (ages 2, 4 & maybe 8) running in circles, tumbling and being a general nuisance. This was between 7:30 & 8:30pm for 3 nights in a row. I complained to a few staff members and they seemed afraid to talk about it. I complained at the front desk and the first gentleman just smiled at me. The second Rep reminded me of a curfew for 12 midnight for children under 18? …or the parents couldn’t be approached unless the activities were dangerous to themselves or someone else. Keep in mind that liquor is served in this venue, drinks are being carried around on trays and adults would like to dance if they choose without stepping on or stumbling over an untethered child. In other words…the child dominated the activities of the night when the rest of the attending passengers who’d probably paid thousands were held hostage by the playground antics allowed by the ship’s management, their parents and ship’s staff. 3- Food quality! This was our 4th cruise with NCL & by far the food was less than expected. Although the Teppanyaki & Moderno experiences were exquisite, many of the dishes (Garden Café) were reheated leftovers. Most of the beef was inedible & too chewy. The coffee was fantastic, but the fruits were horrible (most were there for color…no taste, unsweet, not ripe & too hard. Especially the melons. 4- Entertainment …the selection of poolside music was not to our liking. What happened to the reggae? It was on all of the other NCL cruise ships that we voyaged on. We did attend a very late & COLD tribute to Bob Marley in the Spinnaker and it was well attended. In fact the dance floor was packed. Why wasn’t that transferred to a more obvious locale? (=poolside). Charlie was great and very versatile. The C-Note Trio was good, but spread themselves too thin by playing too many genres of music. They probably should have been allowed to play more reggae at poolside. Soca music is cool, but not a substitute for reggae. I loved the House/Show band. They played some great jazz standards, but because of the times they played (many schedules were at our mealtime) & the venues (some too cold). The nightly shows were okay, but we only attended one (lack of interest in the others). 5- Getting sick & the result: We DID NOT arrive on this cruise sick. We developed issues after being exposed to circumstances beyond our control…specifically the cold blasts of air. Our medical bill was ridiculously astronomical and it too added to the general displeasure with this recent torturous journey. On the positive side: I’d like to mention that 98% of the staff & crew were fantastic. The attendants, room steward, servers, medical staff, greeters, wheel-chair helpers, room/food service, Guest Service Associates (especially Juvelyn Rauto) etal. represented NCL & the international community well. Our problem is that we feel very much short-changed by the entire trip because of the capital outlay and the lesser value that received in return. It takes us a year’s worth of savings to afford such an adventure and now that the medical expenses have eaten into another half year…where does that leave our thinking & mindset?! Not good! BTW we have filed our medical claims (both totaled over $3400.00 & was debited from my credit card on the final day of our cruise) with Medicare & your travel protection group (from NCL) so now we're waiting for a reply. Little did we know (I guess the fine print was too microscopic) but we had to file a claim with our primary insurance first, wait for a response, then send the denial or partial payment notice back to the NCL Travel insurance group. We did not find this out until our claims sat on an agent's desk for 3 weeks & our constant calls & emails. We received no refunds from NCLCustomer Service but have received a discount for our next cruise. The discount is meager compared to what our expenditures amounted to & the troubles precipitated from this cruise. In the meantime my wife (she’s was worse) & I are still trying to recover from our worst NCL cruise EVER. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the Panama Canal, which was beautiful. After many cruises with Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, and celebrity, we were extremely disappointed with the food and the level of service from the staff. The food was the lowest quality that could be found. The buffet lacked typical fresh fruits such as bananas, apples, berries oranges, and the watermelon that they did have was so over ripe it was inedible. The variety at the buffet with incredibly lacking. The bacon in the morning tasted like cardboard Lunch was the same thing each day at the buffet; extremely disappointing, and devoid of flavor. I cannot believe they call that brown stuff in the morning coffee, which the staff does not come around to refill. The Reuben Panini had one small slice of corned beef that covered a third of the bread with a little cheese. It was mostly a bread sandwich. The grilled hamburgers tasted of breading, lacking meet. Much of the staff both in the dining rooms and bars we’re not attentive, nor do they care about the passengers, with some exceptions. We even heard disparaging remarks from two bartenders in the rear of the ship passed the buffet regarding the passengers. We heard them raise their voice at some of the older guests. If you have young daughters keep them away from these two guys and they were both bosting how they left a young women’s (passenger) room at 7:30 am. Ivan at the whiskey bar was an exception to the rule and did an outstanding job. There were four in our party and we were seated at a table for six in the main dining room the first day. They never removed the extra chairs nor did they bring any bread, or coffee. The food was certainly not what we were used to on other ships, and limited coupled with poor quality. On a positive note the music was very good as well as the cleanliness of the boat itself. Our cabin steward also did an excellent job. The shows in the theater were just OK. Both comedians were not that great and the seats in the theater go down almost to the floor making it very uncomfortable to sit. There were also no cupholders, which was surprising as the ship was redone not that long ago. The activities director did an excellent job and with visible throughout the cruise. I hope the poor food and the lack of caring by many of the restaurant and bar staff is not a systemic problem with Norwegian, but I wonder. Read Less

Wanted to get away to somewhere warm quick. Didn't explore departure city before the cruise. Embarkation and disembarkation went okay. Ship was okay as well as the cabin. Never met our cleaning service personnel except when they knocked on our door to clean our room on the last night at 21:00. I sent them away. Was in bed already. Dining was maybe average. I'm not really into any entertainment. That's not why i went on the cruise. Service sucked! Shore excursions average. Other than the cabin i spent four(4) days just standing in lines. Need more working bartenders that are more personable. I lost my week old, brand new prescription eyeglasses on the last day. I know exactly where i left them. In the case on top of the kleenex dispenser, in the bathroom of the cabin 5090. Now the guy that cleaned our cabin has a brand new pair of glasses with my prescription!!! I will stick with royal caribbean. Ncl sucks!!! Read Less

We have cruised with Norwegian about a dozen times over the past fifteen years, and this was by far the most disappointing cruise. The service quality, staff attitude, programming and overall experience have really taken a nosedive. Overall experience was akin to a Carnival cruise without the singing waiters: herded like cattle from event to event, from venue to venue, constantly working to get you to spend more money while on board. Our mini-suite could in any way comfortably house three adults. Truly awful service in the main dining rooms and only marginally better in the specialty dining rooms. Very ordinary talent in the shows, and overall weak entertainers particularly on New Years Eve. Truly unacceptable experience trying to get an elderly person in a wheelchair off the ship at ports, with most elevators locked. The man-made NCL island in Belize is disappointing, and is in no way comparable to the former port and excursions in Belize City. The port in Guatemala is a container depot with one flea market that specializes in counterfeit designer goods. The cruise port in Cozumel is a multi-level shopping mall that was true chaos with six ships in port at the same time. Throw in the aggravation and time from some outright fraud wherein we purchased bottled water and an internet package ahead of time, only to find no record of either on board. The Guests Services staff, whom I visited every day for the first half of the cruise, are the worst I have ever experienced. At least they allowed me to make a free phone call to my credit card company to contest the fraudulent charges. You get what you pay for. Read Less

I have only cruised 4 time now and this one was great. They staff, the food, the drinks (and yes I drink, LOL), entertainment was beyond FANTASTIC (did not catch all of them, but the ones we did....). Our cabin lady was also FANTASTIC. I really do not have any complaints except, softer toilet tissue PLEASE. The guy (and I forgot to get his name) in the Java Cafe, well, he might be might be from the Philippians, but he knows how to make a CAPPUCCINO. Everything was enjoyable and FANTASTIC. Also, our tour to Bamboo Beach Club on November 9th was also FANTASTIC. The young ladies, Shevel & Shaneil, well I do not think we could have asked for anyone better. These two knew their history. Very informative and like to be jokers with us. Shevel was the one who did most of the tour and she was so funny. We had one guy who wanted to be trouble, funny trouble and she was great with him, giving it right back to him, made the ride so not boring, My sides were hurting from those two, She was great. They both deserve a bonus for their hard long days of work. They do not get paid either, they take a whole day and do this job and enjoy it so much, for TIPS ONLY. They are both working to go to college, so they have to work for tips and save to move and better themselves. The beaches in all the ports except Bonaire, no beaches unless you stay at a resort all coral washed up or rocks, were so beautiful All in all, FANTASTIC ship and the tours were GREAT. Great value for the money. Would recommend the Jade to anyone. As for cruise line itself, they did a GREAT job to reroute us, as all the ports we were scheduled to go to, devastated by two hurricanes. GREAT JOB!!!!!!! Would like to book another on the Jade if and when the original ports are open back up for business. Read Less

We sailed the Jade 3 yrs ago and it was the BEST CRUISE EVER. We were looking forward to the ship, the itinerary (We had never done a Fall Color trip), the ports, everything. We did not get an invite to the frequent cruisers cocktail party. There was only one "formal" night on a 10 dsy cruise. The shop did not have weather appropriate garments for purchase. The bars were closed more often than open and were short on staff. The time in ports was cut back drastically from what was sold to us. Two of our four tours were cancelled, one while on board. Most of the tourist shops and restaurants were closed, as it was "end of season", another detail not disclosed. The food, even in the "specialty" restaurants was mediocre, st best. The crew was poorly trained, not helpful, and seemed bored with having to do their job. WORST CRUISE EVER!!! Read Less

This was a truly awful experience! We are blessed to have travelled on a range of cruise ships over an 11 year period and always had some wonderful times and have made lifelong friends with people from all over the world but after this cruise seriously wondering if we will cruise again!! Sailing from and back to Southampton with a great itinerary we were really looking forward to this. The first signs that something was different were upon arriving early at the cruise port it was apparent that there were really large groups of travellers from the Far East that had already monopolised every area. On board it became immediately apparent that the very large groups were indeed a very large proportion of the customer base. It was almost impossible to find anywhere to sit or find a table in the Garden Restaurant/café. At this stage it was difficult to book at any of the complementary eating restaurants as large groups had pre booked tables for 70 or more people at a time. Resignation of an awful experience hit home in the Grand Pacific Resurant on one of the early evenings when my wife burst into tears. We found our table was again surrounded by guests seated in groups who were speaking very loudly in their native language. I was appalled to see many had baseball caps, puffer jackets, trainers and rucksacks (that I soon discovered along with sick bags and worse were used to take food from the restaurant) Also many were constantly using mobile phones and taking picture after picture of anything and everything!. We had read that NCL were more relaxed than many cruise lines and happy with this but….. We called over the restaurant manager who we would get to speak to many times during the cruise. Along with his other senior staff he was very helpful indeed making sure that later in the cruise we were directed to quiet areas of the restaurant. I asked if this is what the cruising experience in such a grand restaurant should be like! It looked like an unruly holiday camp. He agreed completely and was very apologetic but said his hands were tied as he was unable to inforce the rules, it was a one off cruise and everything would be back to normal for the next cruise! (Be aware, there will be many more we have since found) But this was our cruise and we had saved a long time for these two weeks! We were told later this had happened not long before on a smaller scale with similar concerns and problems but they had not learnt from this. This made me angrier still as we were being used as some type of Guiney pigs in an experiment to see how things would work. Well they don’t!!! The Garden café/restaurant was continually full as large groups would not vacate tables and as the staff pointed out to us had cleaver and deceitful ways of making sure all the tables were occupied for very large periods of time. When we did venture through to the rear (outside area) to find a seat we witnessed large amounts of food and fruit being taken from the restaurant in bags etc. Again the staff said they dare not impose rules! With the “Freedom” options available it was apparent that these could not be managed with the block bookings of 70 or more and not vacating tables etc. The staff looked very run down and disillusioned and we felt genuinely very sorry for them, like us many said they were counting down the days till we arrived back in Southampton and they were not afraid to tell us as well. I have never heard crew speak so openly about how upset they were about what was happening on their ship. On one of our trips organised with NCL we were sold short as guests did not return to the coach and the guide had to go to find them. The Guide was also unaware of how to cope as he assumed all the guests would understand English. Health and Safety issues were serious in terms of crowding around stairways, in the grand pacific restaurant rucksacks left on floors with straps trailing and on the back of chairs, guests being allowed to enter the shows very late or all through the show and congregating around the exits, climbing over seats to get out at the end, pushing and shoving to unacceptable levels not experienced on any other cruise line. Many times we witnessed flared tempers. Also at the start of every show crew had to shine down a number of laser pens to try and “inform” people to turn off their mobiles which every night were being used to record the shows etc. Again never seen this on a cruise ship before on such a huge and unacceptable scale. We love the shows and entertainment on cruise ships but again these fell well short. Again I can only judge this in relation to my other experiences. The Production Show team managed just 3 shows on our 14 night cruise, 2 very basic singing shows and one Country and western based show. They did however play supporting roles in 2 other shows which mainly featured acrobats, illusionists and magic acts which were on for many of the shows. On the remaining nights we had guest singing acts from England that were more like what we had come to expect. I did bring this up with the cruise director on a number of occasions simply to ask why we could not see more of the production team and he told me they were busy rehearsing! On the one occasion I did see one of the dancers (I had to check) around the ship I told her I was disappointed we could not see them perform more. Looking at their profiles on a screen one day they were all very talented so I really can’t understand why they had so little to do. An example of the on board seminars. We usually enjoy the camera talks and presentations etc on sea days. Unbelievably these were read directly from a laptop facing away from the audience from what looked like had been cut and pasted from a camera book. I can report a positive. Our cabin, a basic inside was very good. Best shower both size and quality we have had. All clean tidy and well presented. Sorry NCL. First and most definitely the last time ever and very angry that we were not informed this was the direction the cruise line had taken. Bookings were being taken on board for future cruises and we have seen the leaflets. Be aware, be very aware!! On our return we complained to NCL on the basis we should have been informed of these large group bookings and been given the option to go ahead, re book or cancel. NCL showed a complete lack of understanding of our bad experience and some very badly constructed letters (templates) have further added to our anger as their customer service is appalling as well. We have totally rejected an offer of money off another cruise as we have no intention of ever setting foot on another NCL cruise ship. Read Less

Norwegian prides itself (apparently) on the global basis of customers on its ships. They didn't get it right on this cruise however. Despite an excellent itinerary, reasonable on-off shore experiences (though be prepared to wait for up to 2 hours for a ticket to board a tender on the following day!!), Norwegian sadly left me and many passengers down by a truly appalling management of major groups from its Far Eastern passengers which the dining and restaurant staff (amongst others) could not appear to handle. Long delays for dinner, the breakfast cafe resembling an ultra-busy pig sty left the rest of us very unhappy with the overall ship experience throughoyut the entire 2 weeks. we were first time passenger but, unfortunately perhaps, will be the last. Apart from the dining issues, the entertainment on board was truly amateur with only a couple of decent UK professional acts to help us through. Need to add that the average 'balcony' stateroom feels small (relatively), especially in the bathroon. Service staff tried vainly to sort out the many problems on board biut appeared to be fighting a losing battle. Only main positive was that after complaining (twice) at two evening dinners (when we eventually reached them!), the manager dealt very capably with appropiate recompense. We probably would have wanted to try out Norwegian again - but, as they say "once bitten, twice (very) shy !! Read Less

NCL isn't for everyone. Some people may love it. For others it's like a nightmare. Find below some observations: Atrium often too loud with music - why should I need to be shouting to make my voice heard when speaking to guest services? Music everywhere all the time: why is this necessary? Many pple dont like it - e.g. Spinnaker lounge pple sitting reading relaxing. Not only is music not necessary, certainly teenage pop music even less so Teppanyaki Dining Experience - Horrific dining experience one of the worst dining experiences I’ve experienced.Tacky, lewd, noisy, completely unfunny, scripted, forced, borderline racist ‘quips playing on American stereotypes of Asian people. Food acrobatics and some kind of theatre to make egg fried rice, plus in addition cooking oil being splattered onto my nice clean shirt from these antics. I had the understanding that it would be some Japanese dining experience - where was the Japanese element? Certainly wasn't in the food. Fun for children perhaps. TV screen issues in Atrium Too often an event that has already passed is continuing to be advertised. Behaviour by some of the American guests - in many kinds of situations, too often involving 'whooping’, shouting or just being obnoxious. Quadruple Whammy Charges: 1.Over-priced drinks (if not on some drinks package) 2.18% Beverage, Service and speciality charge 3. Extra/Add’nl Tip Request 4. $13.50 DSC Constant Bingo announcments Incessant and shameless money grabbing attempts (including the highly questionable 'Art Auctions' (NCL are not alone in this however) - I.e. printing out boarding pass for $15 (note: Venice Airport makes no difference if you've got it printed or not). Generally, a guest /hotel reception print out boarding passes without any charge- begins to leave a ‘bad taste’ with many British Guests.
