We have never been to Europe and my husband and I have been saving for a while to take a nice trip to celebrate our 10th anniversary. So we decided to do a 10 days Mediterranean cruise. Santorini was a must and we were looking for cruise lines that had this destination in their itinerary. In our budget, I was able to find 2 cruise lines, NCL and Royal Caribbean. We went with NCL because the ship was refurbished recently and the promotions included the drink and specialty restaurant package also excursion credits and the internet package. Nice deal if you book a suite (that came with a concierge and butler services). So our itinerary included the Greek Islands, Malta and a few cities in Italy. We travelled with our 2 kids and we were treated like royalty form the moment of arrival to disembarkation. We arrived to the port at 10:30 am. Our concierge Bruno came and accompanied us to the ship. By 11:30 am we were on the boat sipping a glass of champagne and having lunch in one of the specialty restaurants. The ship was beautiful and our room was ready by 1:00 pm and what a room! We had a forward penthouse suite with large balcony (cabin 10000). A very large room that was perfect for us and our Kids (6 and 7 years old) in its category cabin 10000 and cabin 10500 were the largest. 2 cold bottles of champagne were waiting for us as well as chocolate treats… felt like royalty! Every morning with our coffee (from the Nespresso machine in our cabin) we saw the ship arrive at different ports. We had the best view on the ship and every evening with a glass of white wine, we said goodbye from our balcony to every city we visited. After reading some comments about not being able to use the balconies in the front of the ship due to strong winds, I was a little worried but their was no issue at all. We used our balcony every day (sea days and port days)... I guess we were lucky! We saw two amazing shows and enjoyed the entertainment in different bars on the ship. The ship is tailored more for adults than kids but still our kids enjoyed their time at the pool, basketball court and a few hours in the splash academy. Food was good. We ate at the main dinning restaurant The Grand Pacific and the buffet few times. We were mostly impressed by the Japanese restaurant, The Bistro and the Italian restaurant. One area that NCL can improve on is the Kids menu. 10 days of eating the same things (hot dogs, pizza, mac and cheese and chicken nuggets) becomes a little repetitive. They can add healthier choices. In the Grand Pacific, we ended up ordering for the kids from the regular menu. We booked all our excursions with NCL. Bruno our concierge made it so easy for us to disembark and accompanied us to our tour guide and bus. With 2 kids, we appreciated not waiting the long lines to disembark and we learned a lot about each port. We did not use our butler’s services but appreciated the snacks, the sweets and the fruit baskets that were delivered to our cabin every afternoon. Our steward did an amazing job keeping our room nice and clean no matter when we got back to it. Disembarkation was a smooth ride as well. Our concierge again accompanied us to our driver to go back to the airport. We loved the VIP treatment and the pampering. It will be difficult to go back to a regular balcony cabin (cannot afford suites every time! Lol) Read Less

This was my first cruise ever going with my family members who experienced it the second time with NCL. They recommended it wholeheartedly and they were absolutely right. It was awesome in every way. The ship was majestic, beautiful, just the right size not to feel overwhelmed, The crew was absolutely professional but always very friendly making sure that their guests are looked after the very best way possible. They not only focused on excellent service, entertainment and activities but health and safety as well. Finishing excursions, returning back to the ship daily they greeted us like family coming back from a long journey. I always felt that I am coming home from a memorable but very tiresome day - it was pretty hot in the Mediterranean in the middle of August! Our cabin was spacious, very clean thanks to our very attentive steward, the hardworking Adonis from the Philippines. The food always was delicious and plenty. Our focus was on visiting the breathtaking places in Greece, Italy and Malta, so besides the excursions offered by the cruise line we made some arrangements by ourselves through the Internet. That is necessary if you want to skip very long lines at famous sights. It was a trip of a lifetime with a wonder of a cruise line! Read Less

My family and i enjoyed every moment of this cruise from the ports of call, the great service we received and the best food we ever ate. we spent 2 days in rome first and was able to see all rome had to offer. then we got on the boat which took about 35 minutes from check in to our first meal. our first shore excursion time was 9:30 am when i made the reservation. it was changed to 8:00 and i was not aware of the change. when the staff saw how upset i was they contacted the shore excursion manager, dana, who went out of her way to get us on the same excursion with their sister ship at noon. the way they went above and beyond for my family will never be forgotten. for this reason alone i will only cruise norwegian. i can't thank them enough for the special attention i received to make it the best cruise for me and my family. One of the best things about free style dining is I was able to make a reservation for diner 1 hour after all my tours ended. Each day was a different time so going to a diner at the same time everyday would not have worked. And may I say we did not have one bad meal. Plenty to choose from and everything was great. Jasmine restaurant was excellent! Loved the people that engaged in the dancing activities and the shows were great! The food in the Garden Cafe was Excellent !!!! Loved the White party and the mood on the ship all the time. The ship was always clean, the casino was a lot of fun. The drinks were pricey, but I guess that is part of the business. I do recommend this cruise to people. Wish my son, who is 12, could have participated in the teen activities. Being with the little kids was embarrassing for him. Luckily, he enjoyed the game room. That was a great help. Also, should have more options for late night snacking. Should not have to go to a sit down dinner. Read Less

This was a great cruise. The Jade is a smaller ship (compared to other new monster ships) so it was much more friendly and not overwhelming. The crew was great and friendly. And the itinerary of Greek Island and Italian ports was great. The only improvement I might suggest would be to visit one less port. A port everyday was a fast pace so we stayed on the ship at Crete. We chose a cabin with a deck which was very relaxing to be able to watch the ship arrive to port or depart. Having a deck helped to expand the space of our cabin and made it bigger. I would also like to commend the server Pandidurai Rengasamy who waited on us the first night. He was pleasant and joyous. And then we served us several other times through the cruise. On the last night, we made sure to eat in the restaurant where he was working and he served us again with pleasure - a great send off. We also saw several shows in the big hall - both of which had great dancing and acrobatic feats. Read Less

Great ports and length. The Room was amazing! perfect size. We reserved a mini suite with balcony 11th floor ( i think it was termed a mini suite). We have 4 in the room, 2 parents and 2 teens. plenty of space, awesome beds and storage. great balcony. Bathroom is amazing for a cruise ship! extra sliding door in bathroom helped with teens. The room divide was so helpful!! Loved the Great outdoors and all the specialty dining, loved the Pub too!! Great spa area, we added thermal bath passes which were perfect after long excursions. Would have liked the older teen room to be open better hours. The teens activities were all closed 7-9 and had activities too late for my teens ( 15 and 16). They would have liked more activities but with long amazing port excursions they dont stay up late. most teen activities were way too late. amazing staff. love starbucks on board. wish it was a full starbucks that took starbucks app like some cruise ships do, but the barista was a joy every day ( BingQing Xia). amazingly easy getting on board . we had carry ons so that was a bit confusing getting on board, but it was still a breeze. getting off a breeze. i would rather have more inclusive pricing, wifi, alcohol, soda package etc.... that would make a better experience. The excursion and dining reservation system is less than stellar ( disney has dining reservations and activity reservations in their app that is the way to go) , the app was great for texting but should have been able to make dining reservations in the app. the online reservation system prior to boarding was also not stellar. We love the med cruises and wanted to cruise again with the Jade after her dry dock. The ship is in excellent conditions and the refurbishment shows its effects. The Atrium is just gorgeous. The speciality restaurants are very good and we loved the new location of the Moderno, serving excellent meat as in Brazil. Service allover is perfect . We were a little bit disappointed with the quality of the buffet and thought it was much better in the past. Breakfast service in the Great Outdoors should be improved to match the other parts: empty milk cans every morning,1 day toaster not working, another day one coffee machine down. Improvement needed on: - the mineral water which is not a true -mineral- water and is therefore way too expensive - reservations management of the specialty restaurants; they say full but often empty tables during a long period of time - wifi performance: sometimes very poor even at night when everybody sleeps ! Great entertainment almost every evening, excellent shows. Don't miss the show on the penultimate evening. Shore excursions: we took 2 tours organized with NCL and we were glad we had private arrangements in the other ports: expensive compared to renting a chauffeur-driven vehicle, local operators not always under control, huge delay in Livorno which made us missed a spa arrangement. Embarkation in Civitavecchia: ok according to the circumstances; NCL does its best to cope with the poor local facilities. we had to wait for more than 1 hour with some fellow cruisers for a shuttle at the official bus stop Molo Dei Bicchiere ( no NCL local number to call) Disembarkation: quick and well-organized. We hgad an amazing trip on NCL Jade 30th June. We originally booked IX cabin and got allocated 1E deck 4 midship almost immediately/8 months out. Price drop at 90 days we were offered oceanview or $ back. We took the $ and then bid on upgrade. Our friends were successful at 60 days and got B1 aft. We got the sorry no upgrade 48 hours before we departed Rome. We were really happy with our inside on 4 and it was so easy to get off at our 9 ports. The ship and crew were amazing. Some people can be rude, but we find it we interact with them, ask them about themselves and their family it makes it really enjoyable. The food was good, the entertainment was great and we did not have any issues at all. Embarkation was so easy. We arrived at 11am after a Cabs Roma shared shuttle. We were on the ship by 11.20am and were able to leave our hand luggage in cabin and meet our cabin steward. Bags did not arrive until around 5pm which was ok so take what you need for the afternoon. My Daughter 14 had a great time at Entourage 13-17yrs. She met some great friends. The family we travelled with had a 12yr 9 month old and she was not able to join them. They are really strict with age 13 or have to turn 13 during the cruise. Disembarking was a breeze. We chose 8.30 which meant luggage had to be out 11pm night before, -we had breakfast, walked off, collected luggage in 10 mins and was on our shared shuttle with NCC airport at 9am on the way to airport. We recently sailed on NCL Jade on 11-day Mediterranean itinerary. We had not sailed in many years and never on Norwegian but took advantage of partnership with Caesars Total Rewards program. Our trip was fantastic from start to finish. I have read some negative reviews of Jade on this board and suffice it to say we had a completely different experience. Not perfect in every respect but totally positive experience overall. We booked in Haven class and while I cannot speak to how it may be in other cabins or experiences, but all of the staff we met went the extra mile to make sure that we were happy. Prompt and friendly at all times, eager to help. They seemed to have an attitude in general to make your vacation as positive as possible. Bottom line: we are actively looking as to when we can sail the Jade and NCL again. Ship is not huge but big enough. Generally seemed clean and well kept. Not a mega ship by any means but plenty of space and activities. Our 13-year-old enjoyed the teen club and many events. Our cabin (10004) was great. Well appointed and plenty of space. Shower was plenty big and closet had more than enough room for everything. Dining area that we did not use except for maybe one time. Best aspect - two balconies, one in front (bow) and one on the side. Bow was great for sailing in and sailing out, but too windy to use on sea days or once ship picks up speed. Beautiful sunsets from the front of the ship and a great way to see ports as you sailed in and out. From the front balcony you basically had the same view as the bridge crew. When front balcony could not be used, you also have a side balcony to watch the ocean on sea days, read, enjoy fresh air, etc. Dining: We did not make use of all of the outlets and actually never went to the main formal dining room one time. Free venues we went the buffet several times and the food was quick and very good. Some options rotated, some were consistent. Great for a quick breakfast when we had tours. Jasmine the Chinese was also good and we went to O'Sheehans a few times. Our son thought O'Sheehan's was the best food he ever had. Specialty dining we went to Cagney's, La Cucina, Moderno, and Teppanyaki and all were excellent. As Haven class passengers, we had Moderno exclusively for breakfast and Cagney's for lunch. We used Moderno much more frequently to get away from the hustle and bustle of people of rushing to their various tours. They had a little buffet of pastry and yogurt and also food to order. In short, it was great to have this additional option. Activities: We did not do any of the usual cruise activities but they seemed fun and the crew had a lot of energy. Our son loved the teen club and the staff. Met a lot of new friends there and they had great activities. Casino was fine, never particularly crowded. Again friendly and helpful staff. Lots of tournaments and other fun events. We went to three shows: Blazing Boots (entertaining although I am not a country person); Imagika (or something like that - magic guy), which also passed the time although not amazing, and Elements, which was great. Other shows we missed were the singer, acrobats, and violinist. Showroom includes Haven class seats which were not the best seats in the house, but nice to know they were there and you didn't have to worry about arriving early. Spent time in the Spinnaker lounge listening to music. Large venue, great views, good drinks. Enjoyable place for downtime. We are not huge drinkers and generally avoided the busier/party areas including the pool. We did use the Haven deck pool on a few occasions and the Haven sundeck. The latter was never very crowded at all and was a great option. My wife used both the gym and spa and said they were great. I opted to leave my workouts at home. They also have a card room with board games and other games, which we used on occasion. Video arcade had Guitar Hero and some other fun games. Service: As stated, everyone in all aspects of the ship seemed very committed to our enjoyment and needs. All questions were answered, all needs were met. In Haven class, you have use of a concierge and a butler (Bruno and Leo for us), who were both fantastic. Whatever need you had, whatever question you asked, they had it covered. One night I got sick, Leo brought room service and movies. Bruno had all of the information on the ports and what to do and what to avoid. Came around at breakfast and asked you for your plans and gave you suggestions. He also had periodic meetings/presentations to go over critical information and the ports. If you had cruise excursions (we did only one instead opting for private), Bruno and his team got you to your bus first. As a Haven/suite guest, the concierge team also takes you down the back stairs to get off the ship when you are ready so you skip the line. This was great as on the first day, the line for tender tickets at Santorini was about 400 people long (we got right on a tender when we were ready), and the last day at Livorno we got in late due to a port mishap of some kind. The line to get off the ship was 3 decks long up the stairs. We went right downstairs as soon as the ship was cleared. Leo also kept our room stocked with drinks and water for our excursions. These types of benefits and peace of mind made the Haven completely worth it, even aside from our awesome and spacious cabin. Excursions: We opted for mostly private excursions so we could control timing. A few suggestions regarding the various ports: Santorini: When you get off the ship the line for the cable car to Fira was enormous. Instead we took the water taxi straight to Oia. No line, hopped right on the boat. A bit of a walk up the hill to a bus but in the end, far better and Oia is much more scenic than Fira. Rhodes: Underestimated how great this city was. We hired a driver when we got off the ship and ended up being worth it. Saw so much more than we anticipated! Malta: Very underrated stop. Beautiful sail in. We were there on Sunday so much was closed, so still very interesting. We enjoyed the palace and museum with a history of the medieval knights. Livorno: We booked a Pisa/Florence excursion but in my view, it was too much for one day. Nice to see many things but not enough time at any location to appreciate anything. Pisa only or Pisa/Lucca might have been better. We did see David statue which was great. Your view may vary. Embarkation/Disembarkation: Another huge benefit of Haven class. At embarkation, you skip the line completely to a separate area. Maybe 50-75 people on line when we got to port. Instead, we went to separate area, no line and on the ship eating lunch 15 minutes later. Disembarkation you do not get a set time. Concierge team takes you off the ship whenever you like in the window. We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast before departing. Bottom Line: We loved our trip on the Jade and it was fantastic in every major respect. I would sail NCL and the Jade again without hesitation. Read Less

We started off with 4 days in Rome then did a half day countryside tour on the way down to the port. Embarkation was very smooth - dropped of luggage and only about 3 groups ahead of us in line. Communication beforehand was excellent. Ship: We had been on the Jewel a decade ago which is a sister ship so many things were similar. The casino was quite large (and had one of the better bartenders). Layout was good and everything was well marked. Cabin: We were a group of 7 (2 couples and 3 teens) and had two adjoining mini-suites with nice balcony's (they no longer are able to open up the balcony adjoining door) Room was nice sized and even had a tub. We had configured as a double bed and then they turned the sofa into a bed each night for one of the teens. They no longer do towel animals so had to find online pictures for the teens. Dining: We were not able to make any specialty restaurant reservations for our group of 7 before hand and were not able to make them on the ship either and there were no walk ups available so didn't get to try any. We were disappointed with the Jasmine Cafe - everything was breaded in the same breading which should have been on country fried steak, not sweet and sour. The two main restaurants were good though the food options did not change much over the 10 days. We ended up having most meals at the buffet (especially since there were picky teenagers) Good selection with a few special items each day but again not much rotation over the ten days. I expected a chocolate buffet night but either it didn't happen or I missed it. Breakfast at the buffet was always the right option since we did so many excursions on this trip. We are much more spoiled foodies then the last NCL cruise so nothing was impressive but all was good. Entertainment: We missed all the shows (but did catch a few movies) was nice to have the bands as background at the various bars only Bliss was to loud to have a conversation. The teens tried out Entourage but were to introverted to give a second try. Both the library and the game room were nice spots to hang out. We tended to pool / hot tub in the evening and often missed towel service (which ended at 8pm) which was annoying (maybe we are supposed to check out at the beginning of trip and keep until end instead of just get when swimming) The hot tubs were never overcrowded and quite relaxing. Service was great (except at Alizar restaurant where there was always a long wait for us between ordering drinks and anything else - often having to flag someone down to send our server over multiple times before we got them. I did get one massage at the Spa after to many days walking my hip wasn't going to let me do any more - got a deep tissue massage and was able to walk much better the next day - did have some high pressure sales for product and their acupuncture doctor which was annoying. The shop had everything we needed that we ran out of or forgot - overpriced and why do we have to pay 20% service change when not a 'service' but otherwise fine. Ports - great ports - only one (Santorini) that we needed to tender at. We did six excersions and most were great. worst was Pompeii where the guide kept forgetting how many people she had and had to go back to get people all the time when the company called her. Best was Lucca and Pisa. Would have liked a port map in the daily communications but was able to use my phone map. Kids: 13, 16 and 17 they all had a good time - loved the buffet and being able to wander the ship on their own. I expected better access to soda for the soda packages (had to go up to a bar to get a soda) and there was no lemonade which disappointed one of them. Disembarkation was good - though I would have liked to have the schedule options ahead of time when planning my transportation, we would have been able to sleep in a bit later. I will take another Norwegian cruise again, though likely a different set of ports since seen these and the ones we want to return to for in-depth says we want more then a cruise stop. Read Less

This was our first cruise, my husband and I. It was well deserved by us both and I’m happy to say it really delivered in almost every single way. We chose the Mediterranean Sea and the countries and islands therein as our first adventure. You will love Norwegian lines. The ship is immaculate with great attention to hygiene and public health which I appreciate greatly. Our stateroom was spacious, comfortable and a wonderful private place to spend time together. We were well attended by our cabin steward who was efficient and a gentleman. Food is largely great. Free style dining gives you choices and freedom of time. Our specialty dining choices were mostly excellent with high praise for The Bistro and Bliss and high marks for the Brazilian restaurant as well. The drink package was a great choice for both of us as well and believe me we indulged fully. Entertainment on board was varied and really fun. We had so much fun.Of course the shore excursions were the thing for me and Norwegian offers so many choices. Do chose wisely though because they will wear you out! Staff is Always pleasant, helpful and respectful. I have to nitpick in order to find any negatives. I can offer only two: the coffee and the internet reception. Fortunately there is a Starbucks on board and as for the internet it will be waiting for you at journeys end. I have wonderful memories. Read Less

My husband, two kids (7 & 14), and myself sailed on the Jade on their 10 day Italy/Greece cruise and had a great time!! The itinerary was amazing and the main reason for us choosing this cruise. We sailed from Rome and our ports were Santorini, Athens, Mykonos, Chania/Crete, Valletta/Malta, Messina/Sicily, Naples and Livorno. This was our first time on NCL and was nervous because of the some of the negative reviews but I am here to report that we had nothing positive experiences. The food and variety was outstanding in the buffet for dinner with highlights being Greek night, prime rib, brisket, Asian, and Italian night. We had the dining package and ate at Le Bistro, Cagney’s, Teppanyaki, and the Italian restaurant which were all excellent! We had a mini-suite 11016 and it was a great size for a family of 4 with lots of storage and space. We never felt cramped. Only complaint by the kids was that the sofa bed was hard. My teenage son enjoyed the entourage club and my 7 year old daughter enjoyed Splash Academy every night! We really enjoyed our cruise and would definitely sail on NCL again! Read Less

We chose this cruise for the Itinerary that it provided. A fantastic selection of ports and we loved every one. It was magnificent leaving Venice at dusk. We walked around a number of ports that we had been to in the past Kotor, Dubovnik Santorini and Mykonos and took some private day trips to Messina ( Taormina ) , Naples (Positano and Sorrento) Livorno (Florence )and The Tuscan countryside. Ships tours are too expensive. We had travelled on the Star so had some idea of the layout of the boat. We travelled with 2 other couples and all found the Jade an ideal size for us. It was a plus that there was an adults only swimming pool and used this after a hot day out. The Balcony cabin on level 11 ( mini suite) was a really good size and it even had a full bath. It was close to everything and we would willing stay there again. We ate in 4 specialty restaurants and we mainly breakfasted in the Garden Cafe and often had dinner in the main dining room The Grand Pacific. We booked a number of time slots for dining online before we joined the ship. The food was lovely and served by very friendly and helpful staff. We have absolutely no complaints re food or staff. Our favourite was Le Bistro. We had the drink package which was excellent value and there is no big shock when you get your final bill on leaving the cruise. Entertainment was good, we attended 6 concerts and loved Victor Michael. Read Less

The sailaway through Venice was amazing. We had an aft cabin so had a perfect view. Our cabin steward, Gede, was attentive and took care of our requests promptly. We took all of our shore excursions from NCL, and with a few changes being made in our itinerary I am glad we did. We had the drink package as well as a 4 meal package for the specialty restaurants. We dined in Cagney's, the Teppanyaki restaurant, and La Cucina twice. Several lunches were in O'Sheehan's, and one dinner in Jasmine Garden. One dinner in the Grand Pacific and the remainder of dinners were in Alizar. Breakfasts were in the Great Outdoors daily. I used the spa for a massage/facial special one day--so wonderful! And we made use of both laundry specials, as we had travelled for 4 nights pre-cruise and 4 nights post-cruise. Disembarkation was so smooth, again totally painless. Read Less

It is an excellent cruise, very good size and distribution. The ship's staff is very attentive and always giving excellent service.  The cabin is wide, with a very good bathroom (bigger than the regular bathroom). The restaurants and the buffet are very good with lots of variety. It has several restaurants for at night, although without a doubt; the best is the Grand Pacific. Some restaurants do not have the possibility to make a reservation, then they give you a locator and you can walk around the boat while you wait for your turn (it does not work in the cabins / approximate time of waiting 30 minutes depending on the time). It has various activities throughout the day in different spaces. We did only 2 excursions with the cruise, and in general they were very good; but to the ports that we arrived without an excursion, we took some of those offered by other companies when we got off. The disembarkation in Civitavecchia (Rome) was somewhat congested and the buses were not enough for people to leave the port. Read Less

This was a wonderful cruise with a great itinerary. Our favorite ports were Santorini Greece and Dubrovnik Croatia. Our excursion in Dubrovnik (Game of Thrones Tour) was unreal! We thoroughly enjoyed the food, service, and entertainment on the ship. Our room was amazing and our steward, Dino, was a delight. We would absolutely consider cruising on the Jade again. This cruise was taken on the week of our 20 year Wedding Anniversary. It did not disappoint. The ship was clean and the staff very friendly. The spa was amazing, if not a bit overpriced. But I really enjoyed both of my spa experiences. Our favorite restaurant was Le Bistro, although Cagney's and La Cucina were great too. The main dining room was great and truthfully we could have eaten all of our meals there. The breakfast buffet was really good and we had lunch at O'Sheehan's a few times and enjoyed it. We loved the casual dining atmosphere on the ship. Overall, this was a wonderful cruise on a very nice ship. We highly recommend Norwegian. We can't wait to do it again! Read Less

We (myself, my wife, our 2 children, and my wife's parents) decided to "do" Europe. We flew to London and made our way to Rome by way of Paris and Venice. Our ages ranged from 8 to 72. We've all sailed many times in the Caribbean, but never Europe. Embarkation at the pier was so easy. There was a line, but it moved quickly. We only had carry-on bags, so that helped. Disembarkation, usually a cluster, was also easy. We were a bit hesitant about the Jade -- she's a little older, she's not a megaship. I can tell you now, the Jade is amazing. Beautiful inside and out, clean, welcoming. The cabins are a very good size. We had an obstructed OV on Deck 8 and my in-laws had an interior across the hall. Both were the same size and we had plenty of room. The bathrooms are larger than on most ships we have sailed, and ours even had a separate WC. Dining was great. We ate in Alizar most evenings as it was closer to our cabins than Grand Pacific all the way aft. Alizar is a bit more casual, but the food is the same. We ate late every night (8:30 or 9:00), which is a change from all of our previous cruises, but we were in Europe. We dined in Cagney's one night and it was delicious (except for my potatoes au gratin which were ice cold). Another night we ate at Le Bistro (thank you American Express Platinum Travel); it, too, was wonderful. On mornings without really early port calls, we headed to Grand Pacific for breakfast, which were just typical NCL breakfasts. Let's talk about service. Our last NCL cruise, aboard the Breakaway at Thanksgiving 2018, left a sour taste due to the horrible service. On the Jade, NCL redeemed themselves. Service (bar, restaurant, cabin, room service) was always prompt and with a smile. We never had to wait more than 3 minutes to be served at a bar. Meals took just the right amount of time for us. Our cabins were touched at least twice and usually three times per day. Room service, especially breakfast, was on point and on time. This 10 day itinerary was very port-heavy. We had only 1 sea day, and I personally prefer a few more than that. Most of the ports were early, but we were back on board by late afternoon at most. In Santorini, we hung around for the sunset before boarding. In Crete, we had to be back before noon so we could speed off to Malta by 1pm the next day. We did not utilize any ship excursions as they all seemed limiting and over-priced. We managed to arrange private tours for the 6 of us in every port at reasonable prices (except Crete -- we walked off, found a bistro for breakfast, and got back on the ship). Our kids are 8 and 10. Both are experienced cruisers. My son feels he has outgrown the kids' club and only went once. My daughter, being a little social butterfly, wanted to go every evening. We've never had a problem with the kids' clubs on any ship we've been on, and the Jade was no exception. We would definitely go again, and I hope to do so! Read Less

This was my first NCL experience. I came prepared with lower expectations, but I was wrong. I am an avid cruiser with literally dozens of Royal, Celebrity, Holland, Princess, and Seabourn cruises. I was expecting mediocre and received outstanding service on this cruise. The staff had an amazing positive attitude and 99 percent of the crew we came in contact with were far superior to your average cruise. I know how hard it is to create that incentive to perform and maintain great morale for jobs that are hard and demanding. Dining Room staff was well trained, gracious, and we received consistent service in the dining room, with the food arriving hot all the times we were at the Pacific or Alizar restaurant. There were five entrees that were the same and available daily and at least five more each day. Food was well presented and far superior to Royal and Princess. No filet mignon or lobster on the menu, but good choices, tasty and again beautifully plated for a cruise in this category. Buffet had everything one could wish for. Different roasts, hot entrees, pasta cooked to order station, salad bar, Asian and Indian station, and hot vegetarian selections. Service at the buffet was excellent with fast and professional staff. Tables got busy quite often and sometimes I had a little struggle to find a place to sit. Pastry and breads can be improved. There is variety but quality can be better. No pressure for sales of drinks by the pools or the bars. The ship is in good shape with the exception of a few windows in the dining room and lobby that have damage and need to be replaced. You don’t want to sit by a window in the dining room and see a distorted image of the ocean. Norwegian certainly provided a far superior experience than what I was expecting. Thy lived up to their “Freestyle” promise? which they advertise as their brand. Hotel Manager’s direct phone number and a mailbox is available next to the Front Desk. I have never seen this on any cruise on any other cruise line. Buffet tables have the name of the Maitre D’ on duty on the floor during each meal service, as well as his or her telephone number. Entertainment was between good and very good. I often refuse to attend cruise ship shows but most were pleasant and entertaining. Different venues had music available at the same time with a variety of styles for every taste. Cabin Steward was proactive and very professional and pleasant. Cabin was comfortable with bathroom having a good size shower with a sliding door and also a toilet with a sliding door. This was a port intensive cruise with nine ports in eleven days. This crew worked hard. One poor experience at the Front Desk was dealt with professionally and I received a call with an apology. I had a very nice cruise with NCL and would recommend it to people who want a casual experience where you, the guest, decide just about everything about your vacation, including what time you wish to disembark. I do notice every single detail involving service and employee attitude, and I am not always the easiest person to please, but I have to give it five stars for matching the experience to what their brand and price point sells for. Cruise Director seemed inexperienced. Guest enjoy sail away either by the pool or the Spinnaker Lounge, the forward lounge with great views. We found it closed for rehearsals when we were sailing away from some ports, while many of the guests wanted to sit there and enjoy a drink and the view. Overall I received excellent value for my money and I would give it another try aboard NCL. Read Less

I was planning a trip to Europe, & I was also shopping for a cruise. When I found this TA, it was a perfect match! I loved the itinerary! Besides that, the embarkation port was also my home port. I had initially wanted to sail on one of the larger ships, but chose the Jade TA for the wonderful ports on the itinerary. As it happened, the Jade turned out to be the perfect ship for a TA. It was very stable, & we were very comfortable. The Jade was recently refurbished, & its a beautiful ship; very clean, comfortable, & well maintained. We had a midship balcony stateroom. We had lots of storage, we really enjoyed the balcony. Yes, it could get quite cold out in the middle of the Atlantic, but we would bundle up & watch the amazing sunrise & sunsets. Watching the twinkling lights of Morocco from our balcony was magic! We had a very active Cruise Critic Roll Call. Our group constituted practically 10% of the total number on board the Jade. As a result, everywhere we went we knew somebody! We had organized several events, including a Sailaway Party, CC Meet & Greet, Cabin Crawl, Pub Crawl, Poker Crawl, Texas Hold ‘Em Poker, Left Right Center, Jewelry making classes, and last but not least, two parties at the sumptuous Garden Villa! We also went on excursions together. As a result, we had a fun filled, exciting cruise! I do believe we made life long friends over the 15 days we sailed together! We enjoyed many other activities like Trivia, lectures, language classes while on board. The nightly entertainment was over the top. Elements was a Vegas level show; the Illusionist was great; the Aerial show was memorable; the comedy show was laugh out good; night after night, we were entertained by a great cast of entertainers. And no repeats! Our cabin steward, Cher, kept our stateroom immaculate. He was hard working, & cheerful & always there. We couldn’t ask for a better steward. We ate at the buffet most of the time, because we were always in a hurry to go to the next activity! The food was consistently good. A big shoutout to Executive Chef, Saldanha! He was at the Buffet every day, personally supervising all the stations. We became good friends! I loved his attention to detail, & how he happily accommodated my dietary restrictions. We liked the Asian station, & the Hot Entrees stations the best. The food at the MDR was good, too. All the ports had so many wonderful options for excursions; but we always felt that we didn’t get enough time on shore, there was so much to see & do! After disembarking in Civitavechia, which is about an hour from Rome, we went straight to our hotel; then spent the next 10 days exploring Rome, Florence, Venice, & Milan by high speed train (Italo), which was another great adventure made possible by this cruise. I would do this itinerary again, in a heartbeat!! Read Less

This was my second transatlantic on The Jade, my fourth cruise on The Jade. I love the ship for its size, layout, always exceptional service and staff. Jen in the Spinnaker and Maria in the Champagne and Martini bar, both are treasures and a credit to NCL. I do not like the absence of the bar in the Atrium being replaced by *$s. Really, most of the customers were the officer staff of the ship.. Deep 6 *$s and bring back the bar~!! Always meet some of the friendliest fellow cruises on NCL. The guitar duo were phenomenal talents. Dave was too loud for several of the venues. One group that were awful (sorry) ruined sailaway in the Spinnaker twice. The vocalist (male) salute to Johnny Cash, and others, was painful~! Sometimes "entertainment" is just NOT necessary. Loved the trivia game with Brenda in the afternoons on sea days. Brenda is a sweetheart. Always enjoy the specialty dining. La Cucina had a fantastic Osso Bucco. Cagney's prime rib was the best I have ever had. La Bistro is heaven. Great itinerary on this trip. Cadiz was a delightful surprise.... beautiful city. Lisbon and Barcelona were wonderful. My second trip to Cannes and excited seeing the hussle of the city the week before the film festival. Love the Azores. Detested the confusing Rome airport~! JMHO... The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.... (but mostly THE GOOD) Read Less

We booked this trip last minute got an excellent price. Sea was calm all the way. Nice ship overall plus great entertainment. Don't like the fact that room service has a fee. NCL app free to download but if u want to use it to text cruise mates each person is charged $9.95. This is free on HAL. Drinks are expensive food was ok. Wish offered more selection at the buffet same fare every day. Plus no theme nights can you believe they did not have any celebration for Cinco de Mayo! Also the TV channels had no MSNBC or CNN just FOX, whats the deal with that? So if you wan't real news you had to watch BBC, but even that was turned off toward the end. I think Holland America is better because they offer the NY Times online or printed copies for no charge. But being a captive audience on a transatlantic cruise with only FOX news! That aside we loved the cruise the price and itinerary was fantastic! Read Less

We booked an AFT Port side suite and enjoyed all the amenities that came with it. I love not fighting any crowds at breakfast or lunch. Everyone was very attentive and nice. I love the Expresso machine in our suite and my husband loved the larger TV. We didn't really use the concierge or Buttler except for their normal duties. We were in bad weather on sea days which made everyone sick except us. I would not suggest getting spa treatments on sea days if it's ruff as my facial girl, even though very nice, only serviced my face about 20 minutes instead of 50 because she was so seasick. Same thing for my message and mani/pedi. They all got sick and had to get up several times through my services. That was defiantly a little disappointing considering how much you pay on the ship for these things. Overall we had a great time! Read Less

A chance to see NY before we left, sailed out of Brooklyn port yard. The embarkation was pretty seamless and well done, no issues. The ship is great. Very clean and the décor was appealing, the updates (remodel in 2017) went very well I'd say. We were very impressed with the crew and service, no issues for us. Delicious foods, highly recommend the specialty dining. We had the alcohol package and took advantage of that. The servers were great, drinks were made well and with no reservation to mostly making any drink a double. Ship wasn't full but busy. Never felt like we waited long for anything. Great Stirrup Cay and Bermuda were our two highlights of the trip. Amazing places. Beach sand and clear waters - SO blue, fantastic. It was our first time there. Entertainment was good, we saw the Elements show and it matches a Vegas act for sure. Daily entertainment is a plenty, lots to see and enjoy. Really liked Dave (from Canada!) and his guitar melodies and many, many songs to sing along to. Pool deck was crowded of course, but still enjoyed that they had an adult only pool section and hot tub. It was myself and spouse, no kids and for us it was an excellent experience. No hesitation to sail with NCL again! Read Less

Our primary purpose during this cruise was to travel through the Panama Canal and celebrate my sister and brother-in-law's 40th wedding anniversary. The food was outstanding with beautiful presentation and staff that were have to supply our every need. The Jade only carries about 2500 passengers so there were no long lines for meals, shows, etc. With a longer cruise an added bonus is an older crowd and very few young children. Our cabin was smaller than we've become accustomed to but we settled in quite easily. Bathroom setup is really smart with sink in the center, shower to one side and toilet to the other side. Shower and toilet had glass doors for privacy so more that one person could use the bath at the same time. The staff was outstanding with friendly smiles, good suggestions and a world-class friendliness that was remarkable.Ship excursions were pretty pricey but very worthwhile. Every bus we traveled on was immaculately clean. Guides spoke English very well too. Excursion tips: tour the old city in Cartagena; don't miss the Aerial Tram and Exhibits in Gatun Lake, Panama; banana plantation, scenic drive & Shopping (if you consider a convenience store as shopping); dolphin encounter in Costa Maya is good with limited dolphin contact but pictures with dolphins start at $40 each. The best beach day was at Maya Key Private Island retreat. There is a huge winding beach, lots of shade or sun, no blaring music, a nice buffet was also included. There are guides to help beginners snorkel and see parts of the beautiful reef. Very comfortable and safe. Read Less

This was our first cruise and we were not disappointed. Embarcation was very efficient although a bit slow having so many people to check in but once on board, our holiday truly began. We made our way to O’Sheehans which we were told wouldn’t be as busy as the buffet restaurants and had a lovely lunch. Our suitcases were taken from us when we got off the bus and they reached our cabin before 2pm. We were on deck 10 room 10074 mid ship with a balcony (our own bit of private heaven). The stateroom was lovely and more spacious than I thought it would be, very well appointed and very quiet. Our steward Sagar introduced himself and he was a lovely person, nothing was too much trouble and of course we had a different towel animal each night. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Entertainment was good at times and not to our taste at other times. For example, the violinist in the main theatre was a little bit boring and we left half way through but there was always something going on in diffierent venues throughout the ship. The Elements show is not to be missed and was spectacular, this takes place on the second last night on board. We didn’t go to the white party so can’t comment on that. Eating, we didn’t get to experience any of the A la carte restaurants as they were fully booked but we went to all the complimentary restaurants and had absolutely no complaints about the food or the service. The ship is spotless and is endlessly being cleaned, especially the eating places. We had about 3.5 days at sea and we found a sun lounger and relaxed on those days but they were quite tightly packed together. Disembarking day went pretty smoothly. We had a Miami City Tour and shopping at aventura mall excursion booked to keep us occupied before our 5pm flight home, I would probably just do the city tour only if was doing it again as all we did at the mall was have lunch which we could have got at the airport and for the extra cost it wasn’t worth it. Overall, we had a brilliant first cruise and since coming home, I’m looking for our next one. Read Less
