We sailed 10 days to Alaska. We are experienced cruisers and chose Celebrity because it sailed roundtrip out of Vancouver on a date we wanted. We fell for their marketing hype. It was expensive and not worth the cost. We sailed in a Concierge class cabin midship. We bought the classic drink package as a perk. There were some good points which I'll cover first. We did not pay much extra for the concierge class cabin which gives some extras that we thought were worth it. You get an expanded room service breakfast menu which included fresh squeezed orange juice and fruit smoothies. You get foot rests on the balcony which were very good. The afternoon canapes were good but we stopped them after a few days because they sat too long before we could eat them. They would be really good if you have late sitting in the dining room. Nice to have a canape with a pre dinner cocktail. The extra thick bath robes were really good especially on chilly mornings on the balcony. The bottle of bubbly in the room was actual French sparkling wine. It was decent and a nice touch to start the cruise. They no longer put flowers or fresh fruit. No longer give you a canvass tote bag. The Concierge was never around. Cabins were a good size with decent storage for a short cruise. The bathroom was very good with lots of hot water. Very poor is there is no self serve laundry anywhere. Throwing your stuff away and buying new stuff in port is cheaper than using their cleaning service. Staff were very friendly except for one buffet wait staff they brought on in Juneau. Rude and surly. I can't imagine what she will be like after 2 months at sea. Our cabin was really well maintained by a very friendly and helpful steward. He was always around and grreted us by name with a smile. Dining room staff were awesome. Very attentive and willing to correct the problems. We did not get bothered too much by the upselling. Ships officers were nowhere. Crusie director is tiresome after the second day. Very stale jokes. Food quality was mixed. We had some good meals and some very bad ones. Both in the MDR and the buffet. The buffet was mostly bad. Had many dirty plates and cutlery. More than half the items were East Indian and Asian dishes EVERYDAY. I like that food but this was way too much. It gets really boring seeing the same stuff. Some dishes were inedible they were so dry and tough. Maybe leftovers? Pasta stations were bland and watery. Pasta Soup! I was served RAW steak and RAW burger by the grill. Other guests had similar experiences. Some were very angry. We ordered poached eggs one morning in the MDR. They arrived in a bowl of melted butter!. Seriously. They have theme nights in the buffet. On Alaska day the only dish that was even remotely considered Alaskan was fish cakes and they were awful. I assumed they were left over fish from yesterday remade into patties. Not even a piece of salmon. No Alaska cod. No Albacore tuna. Alaska is the salmon capital of the world folks! We ate at Murano one night which was pretty good but too expensive. They offered a crab dinner one night which was an extra $45 plus tip each for a single king crab leg. I guess they have never been to Las Vegas!! The drink package was alright but selection is limited. Had no problem getting drinks or refills. Cappuccinos and Irish coffee in the Cafe were nice but they have to learn to wipe the tables. The mixed fancy cocktails were using premix and had hardly any alcohol. I would not buy the drink package unless it comes free as a perk or is very very cheap. Bottled water is the kind you get 6 for $1. The shopping on board is terrible. Poor quality and prices that are insulting they are so high. I can buy scotch for less in a retail store than their duty free prices. To order a $20 bottle of anything for your cabin is $100 plus tip!! They must believe their customers are stupid. They try to sell a cruise video at the end for $35. We saw a preview and it was stock footage from years ago. The ship was parked in different locations and pier has since been changed. You can get the same for free on youtube. The casino was poorly managed. We repeatedly had a young big loud drunk on our poker table and they did nothing to remove him. The art sales are a joke. Lots of Peter Max works. You should read about the current scandal surrounding Peter Max. The entertainment was awful. Jazzercizing while screech hollering is not entertainmant. Their troupe was not talented! The ships band was awesome. Probably the best we have seen on a cruise ship. Unfortuanately whenever they played around the ship it was jazz or the chacha. UGH! The guset services desk staff are indifferent not friendly at all. They gave use the wrong info several times. Had to get the right answers from other passengers. The main reason we would not cruise again with Celebrity is we feel their pricing system is predatory. It is like a dutch auction / russian roulette game. They hook you in and then start dropping the prices after you have paid. This happens sometimes daily. Our dealings with Alex from customer service in Miami were very poor. He did not honor his word. We felt bullied. Well Celebrity you had a chance to steal us away from Princess but you blew it. I feel you don't care about your passengers. You don't deliver what you advertise. You have not answered my 2 e-mails to you. You should learn the cost of acquisition of new customers and the future sales value of a loyal customer. We are wealthy, retired and active cruisers. Very poor business management. I doubt you read these reviews. My booking was 8608148. Call me if you have the courage. Read Less

While the declining quality in food, decreased staffing, and lowered standards of maintenance was bad enough to make me question my decision to sail with Celebrity, the overall cherry on top that pushed me in deciding that I will never sail this line again was my experience with two falls in less than 30 seconds while descending the very wet and slippery stairs down to the tender in front of approximately half a dozen crew members. For the record, I had both hands on the railings, which is why I have pulled muscles and a wrenched back, rather than a cracked skull. At no point did any crew member ask if I had hit my head, did I think that I should get checked out, or even ask my name and cabin number, much less the names and cabin numbers for any of the people that had seen me fall. When I went to make a report to guest services, the woman at the desk was completely indifferent to what had happened, asking "Is that it?" and immediately waving the next guest forward. Quite frankly I found the complete lack of concern for passenger safety to be appalling. Also, my experience with staff at the Persian Garden was, shall we say, interesting. I don't think that I have ever been corrected quite so directly on how to pronounce my own name before. The cabin was nice, although the door opening the opposite direction of every other cruise ship cabin that I have ever been in took some getting used to, and the storage space would have been great for a seven day cruise, but a little tight for a twelve day cruise. Also, the outlet situation was a little tight. Here we are in 2019, and nearly everyone travels with cell phones, laptops and/or tablets, e-readers, cameras, etc., and there are a grand total of two sockets in the entire cabin. Also, nightstands with usable drawers would have been nice. Activities wise, this may be the scantiest collection of sea day activities that I have ever seen. Normally on sea days, the difficulty is in deciding what to do. On this cruise, my e-reader got more of a workout. Read Less

Choose this cruise based on previous experiences with Celebrity plus ports. It was a mistake, This was he most disorganized, poorly managed ship I have sailed on. My mistake, don't cruise this far north this early in the year. It was freezing! Also don't cruise out of San Diego, their port facilities are completely inadequate. We wound up eating in the buffet most meals, due to the low quality of the food in the restaurant. In the be buffet: We wound up eating in the buffet most meals, due to the low quality of the food in the restaurant. In the be buffet: The quality of the food was the poorest on any Celebrity ship I have sailed on. Most of my cruises are on Princess, I used to tell people that one of the main advantages of Celebrity was the quality of the food. I no longer will say that. See the pictures for an example of the poor cuisine available in the buffet. If you are glucose intolerant,. there is a specially marked section for you. If you want no sugar, there may be one or two items, IF YOU ASK, that are NSA. After several complaints, they started labeling the NSA items. Change from breakfast to lunch should be Done an island at a time, not in mass! Use real eggs for omelettes not that stupid liquid. Consistency is awful. Hamburger has too much filler and not enough meat The most appetizing item in the buffet was usually the fresh apples, sad! The management of the ship seemed to go out of their way to ignore the needs of the passengers. As an example, the doors to the Captains Party opened 10 minutes before the schedules time - despite the long line of guests!. Also they go out of their way to get your money. We had one credit card for the cabin, however, the charges were kept track of on a person bases. Therefore, since all the charges were made on my cruise card, I ended up owing money, whereas my wife should a large (non-refundable) credit! They had "Coffee" cards, where for a discount, you could get 10 deluxe coffees. However, they refused to sell or even acknowledge that they existed, until the second day of the cruise. Terrible customer service from concierge desk and customer relations manager. Kids club very unaccomodating and there’s nothing else for young kids to do on board other than swim, which given the cold wasn’t possible a lot of the days. I wouldn’t recommend this ship for anyone with children. Waiters were amazingly friendly and helpful throughout. Manager from kids club is in the wrong type of employment. Shows were rubbish, you can see no effort has gone in to regursal or the choreography. Bar staff at the top bar near the pool were amazing. This ship really just caters to older / retired travellers without children. No nightlife on board. Shopping had a poor selection, again nothing really for children. Sad that this was my first cruise experience. I will never recommend Celebrity to anyone. Poor value and service for money. Very dissatisfied. I had a second cruise booked before going and upon returning home I cancelled it, lost service for the travel agents too. Read Less

I chose this holiday cruise for my family since we had not been to South America and not travelled on Celebrity Cruise lines before. we have been on many cruises and lines all over the world but had just never seemed to go on Celebrity so we gave it a try. This itinerary looked great on the website and even had one of the highest overall ratings by reviews which I really can't understand why. We have one family member with mobility issues and in a wheelchair, and what they don't inform you of when booking is that guests who cannot walk on their own are virtually stuck on the ship for the entire cruise. Most port were accessed by tender and the port that didn't involve tenders had such convoluted ramps and gangways and busses involved; it was too scary to attempt to disembark. for those of us that did get off the ship we found the ports to be dreadful, dirty and poor locales which were only depressing. We did take a couple tours one to see penguins which was nice but a very long drive from the port. The other to "the end of the world" which was the end of the Pan American Highway, and a drive through a National park. Every activity on the ship was just a sales meeting for something else to buy or "experience for an additional fee". I always hear the food on celebrity was so wonderful but in reality I found it to be below the level of RCL the lower level sister company. In fact Norwegian Cruise line food and dining is far superior to Celebrity or RCL. The ship was generally clean and modern but nothing too extraordinary about Celebrity Eclipse. This cruise should have never been offered to anyone with mobility issues at all in the first place. Celebrity sure "misses the boat" with this S American trip, and I am really not sure I will even be willing to give this line a second chance; it was just that awful. Read Less

Sent email to Celebrity on Sept 4 with my complaint, todate,18 September I have neither received any acknowledgement of my email nor any response. Cabin was in poor repair, tape used to fix peeling trim in bathroom, rusted balcony, upgraded drinks package to find favourite wine not available in most bars, only restaurant, champagne served in moonlight restaurant but only US version in all other bars, given prosecco when ordering champagne many times. Information provided onboard for quay/dock location in Helsinki was wrong. Appears the Harbour Master changed berths last minute when ship arrived but this information was not passed to passengers going ashore, therefore ended up in wrong place with double the taxi fare! Paid for wifi but only worked intermittently, ilounge 'professionals' said it was because I had a Russian SIM card, I don't.... used excuses such as, it's because everyone's using the wifi, it's because we're at sea, it's because it comes via satellite, it's your phone, to name a few. Canapés left in cabin resembled left overs scrapped together. Read Less

After almost a month of submitting our reviews/survey, we're still waiting to hear from Celebrity Corporate office about our horrendous experiences during this cruise. We chose the Baltic, St. Petersburg & Scandinavia cruise as a way to see these countries & we always had an enjoyable experience with Celebrity Cruise line. The 1st. day started with an extremely FILTHY cabin, a dinner table mate who announced she had bronchitis & not on meds & it went downhill from there. After she announced her sickness, we told the Maitre'd about our table mate & asked him to move us to another table. Sadly, no tables were available & our 2 choices were: open dining @ 8:30/9:00 or the buffet - Oceanview Cafe. We stayed @ the table & 4 days later my husband bore the brunt of her sickness by getting sick himself. He saw the ship's doctor twice & he stayed in the cabin because he didn't want to contaminate other passengers. I brought him his meals. & whatever else he needed. He missed all the ports except for Copenhagen. There were other people who were coughing, sneezing & were sick who went on the tours. The majority of them announced that they pd. for this cruise & were going on the excursions & didn't care about being sick or passing it onto other passengers. Other problems we encountered were banging toilet pipes during the night for 2 nights between 10 PM & 1 AM. We called Guest Relations the 2 nights & were told a plumber would be sent up to fix the problem. The plumber never came. On the 3rd. day, I went to Guest Relations to again report the banging pipes & I was told, "We don't have a record of your calls so you never called the desk". I told the Guest Relations name of the person who answered the phone on both nights. Her answer was, "there is no record of your calls". I asked her if that person worked those 2 nights & she said, "yes". My response was, I didn't make up his name. Why didn't he report the banging pipes?" The other issue was maintenance when paint was scraped from the deck above our balcony & went onto our balcony..For the 2 days that we were in St. Petersburg we weren't able to sit outside & enjoy the lovely weather & pleasant afternoons. The net used to catch the paint was 18" - 24" wide while the area the was scraped was about 20' wide. Very few paint chips went into the the net & landed on balconies & in St. Petersburg Neva River. Our dinner wait staff, Rafael & Oleksandra, were excellent, always smiling, helpful, friendly & pleasant. Andrea, another ass't. waitress, was friendly & always had a wonderful smile. The Oceanview Cafe & bartenders were pleasant & helpful. Vivek, Concierge, was polite & friendly. We were disappointed in the daily announcements made by the Captain & Cruise Director because we could never hear them in our room. We always had to open the cabin door to hear the announcements. The last day of the cruise, the Cruise director said, "you don't need to stand half naked in the hallways to listen to the announcements. Turn the tv on to channel 6 to hear the announcements & not make other people look at half naked people". NEVER once, before the last day, was this written in the daily bulletin or told to the passengers. This cruise didn't have "sail away" opportunities for Concierge Class which we missed because we enjoy the opportunity to be on the helicopter deck or other decks when we sail away.. Because of these issues & our horrendous experience, I DOUBT IF WE WILL EVER sail on Celebrity again. Read Less

We cruised with Celebrity May 28 - June 7 on Celebrity Eclipse to Ireland, Iceland and Shetland. This was our 3rd cruise with Celebrity and was very disappointed with the service. Unfortunately there were a lot of sea days which made the bad service feel even worse. This cruise was not kid friendly at all. I have a 6 year old son who travelled with us. First of all, the weather was 30 degrees outside so not possible to swim in the regular pool so I asked the manager, Ernaud, at the Solarium pool what time the family hours were as there was no sign. He told me 5pm. During our Alaska cruise on the Solstice last summer, the family hours were clearly posted at the pool with multiple signs, but not on the Eclipse. We arrived at 5:45pm and immediately after we got into the pool, one of the pool attendants told us we had to get out of the pool as the family hours were 6pm. There were only 2 other people swimming in the pool at the time. I told him that the manager, Ernaud, told us that it was 5pm and he said that we had to get approval from customer relations if we wanted to swim. So we got out of the pool in the freezing weather and my son was very upset that he wasn't able to swim. On the way out, we ran into the pool supervisor, Fard, and I explained the situation, and he also refused to let us use the pool. The next morning, since there was nothing my son could do to burn off energy as it was freezing outside, we went to the gym. Again, as soon as my son and I got on the treadmills, we were told that kids were not allowed in the gym. No sign anywhere stating this. Furthermore, I upgraded my son's drink package to non alcoholic premium package so my son could get a smoothie every morning. My husband tried to order a smoothie for my son before he picked him up from the kids club and Singh stated he could not do this, and my husband told him ok he would get my son from the kids club, but by the time he came back down, the smoothie bar was closed. He should have informed my husband they were closing after my husband said this instead of wasting his time. My husband told me this and I couldn't believe it, so the next day, we went to the smoothie bar again to get a smoothie for our son. Singh was there and again refused to make a smoothie. I asked to speak the the manager, Ernaud, who also said this was the policy that a 6 year old must order his own smoothie. So I said I wanted to speak to another manager, Daniele, who took 15 minutes to arrive and said that was correct, my 6 year old son who can not see over the counter has to order his own smoothie. By then, we were late for our shore excursion and they were closing, so we left. Also, there was smoking on the pool deck and upstairs on the lawn. It seems like anytime we went outdoors we were bombarded with smokers.I had to walk my son to the kids club a different route to avoid him inhaling smoke. To relieve some of the stress of being on the ship, I had a very expensive massage at the Canyon ranch spa. Not only was it the worst massage that I ever had, it was supposed to be 90 minutes and due to all the upselling of products I ended up with only a 60 minute massage. On a positive note, Suardika, was the best waiter we ever had and somewhat compensated for the bad service on the rest of the ship. I often told friends and family that Celebrity was the best cruise line and the service was excellent, but this trip was not up to the normal Celebrity standards. It seems like each subsequent cruise that we take the prices go up, but the value, quality and the service has been going down. Read Less

The queues for excursions are poorly done, while the staff openly praise themselves for a job well done.. Yesterday’s excursion left at 5pm instead of 330 and was supposed to be 8 hours. Our last stop was in the dark. Got back to the ship at midnight. Today Ring of Fire excursion took us to the same sites as yesterday”s Golden Circle excursion. These excursions were very expensive and seeing the same sites twice wasted our once in a lifetime trip to Iceland. Everything on the ship is an up sell and onboard activities are boring. The activities staff are indifferent to customers. Our dining room server has been a delight but she can’t make up for the disappointment that this trip has been. Ok, First we are not new to crusing. This was our 42 cruise and 5th with Celebrity. What we found was issues with the service overall. In the main dining room we only saw the waiters assistant only once on the final night of a 14 day cruise. The other times we had diner the food was often wrong and cool-cold. One night my wife asked for a cup of coffee, 35 minutes later still no coffee or waiter. The head waiter stopped and asked if all was ok. We told him of the coffee order and he said he would get it right away. 20 minutes later still no coffee. Finally after another 10 minutes, thats a total of 1 hour and 5 minutes her coffee arrives. We did eat a few times in the Ocean View, most of the food was bland and the same each night. On one evening we decided to have shirmp, what a mistake. It was not cleaned, it was peeled but had not been cleaned , having black veins full still inside. GROSS... One thing that really set me back was the way seating is reserved in the main show room. After diner we would go to see the evening show only to find the doors not open until 8:30 about 30 minutes before the show startes. OK, but then they block off the center seats in the upper center area to be held if you booked a suite, all the time making a anouncement oven the speaker system that seat saving is not allowed, kinda hypocritical of them. We have concluded that since tipping in now added to your account and not placed in an envelope that service has declined..This is not just our view, many others had the same impression. Many times we would return to our room after diner only to find it had not been attended too. Finally on the first evening aboard we purchased a 2 for 1 dinner in a specialty reasturant, we were informed you can only order off of one side of the menu when we made the purchase. Once seated we were informed not only could we order only off one side of the menu but could not order everyting on the one side, only limited to a few items. I could say more but whats the point, nothing would be positive.... Sad to say this is our last cruise with Celebrity. Read Less

Very nice cruise, smooth sailing, fun passengers. Mynard, cabin attendant kept room stocked with supplies. Breakfast Room Service was excellent. Evening shows were very entertaining. The group, something, “Four” was outstanding. Can’t remember their first name. 4 young men singing “oldies” they also were on Reflection last year. Didn’t like the extra fee to use the sauna. I’m Elite, in Concierge, should have been no additional charge. Dining Room service, short staffed, NO warm rolls, just bread with small amt. of butter. Sometimes food was warm, other times not. I ordered 2 entrees, one would always be warm, Staff in shops on deck 4 not very friendly. I shopped on deck 5 which was a pleasure. I take this cruise for the TA. These small “issues” are really not so bad, the entertainers, the Eddy, the Cruise Director, Guest Relations and Enrichment Speakers were all very good. Have booked future cruise on Silhouette, just luv departing from Southampton. Embarkation was so easy to use your system, no hassles. Dining at Tuscan Grill, outstanding, food hot and delicious. My waiter was excellent, can’t remember his name, 11/7/17 6pm reservation. Joan S Read Less

If you are thinking of a cruise please take my advise and stay well clear of Celebrity Cruises Simply awful! We have been with many other cruise lines and had great experiences over the years but this one was the one that broke the camels back Had a very disappointing cruise in Jan 2017 with Celebrity Millinium (Shang Hai to Hong Kong) and even after receiving a £4,000 compensation certificate thought that surely a 10 day Autumn cruise from Southhampton to Canaries and North Spain would be OK How wrong were we!! Staff that could not care a dam! Ocean view Cafe restaurant on top deck only words to describe this is a "Bun fight" or chimpanzee tee party!! Would have walked of this cruise earlier if we could have organised a suitable flight from Madeira, managed to organise a flight from Tenerife and departed the scene five days early! Tried the Tuscany specialty restaurant the first night and both our meals were almost inedible! I ordered a chargrilled steak this arrived covered in a sauce of some kind! When I brushed off the sauce the meat looked like something that you would put on the sole of your shoe , spaghetti was Iike rubber bands and meat balls resembled tennis balls in fact tennis balls might have been tastier! When we returned the food the waiter just stood and shrugged his shoulders never even asked to replace !! No Champagne onboard only cheap French sparkling wine made to look like champagne was re assured that champagne would be delivered and served the following day this was very intersting as we were sailing through Bay of Biscay!! However , if youwant to lose weight this is the cruise line for you Read Less

We took a family holiday with Celebrity Eclipse on the recomendation of our travel agent and wished we hadn’t wasted our money. The sights and people of St Petersburgh were amazing and I would recommend it highly, just dont go with Celebrity. The attitude os the staff was appalling, with the exception of the Sommelier in the Cellar Wine Bar, the staff are ignorant, rude and condescending. My daughter has recently had braces fitted and therefore finds it uncomfortable eating crusty or seeded bread. In the Moonlight Sonata restaurant the first few nights were fine as soft rolls were available. On the third night, crusty baguettes and seeded rolls were delivered and i therefore explained the problem and asked if we could have a soft roll. Our waiter called the person who delivered the bread who couldn't understand why we wanted different bread. When we finally got him to understand, he told us the bread was specifically baked each day for the meal and could not be changed. We had been on the kitchen tour the day before and whilst waiting to go, the head chef was questioned over the lack of vegetarian options on the menu. He replied that if there was ever an instance where we did not like the menu, we should ask the waiter and he would arrange for an alternative meal to be cooked for us, subject to the ingredients being available. They couldnt even supply soft rolls, god knows how they would have reacted to a request for a meal not on the menu. On the first day, we were invited to a special concierge lunch and we chose the roast chicken, on the bone. The chicken was completely overcooked and as tough as leather. I left the meal and the plate was simply collected, the waiter didn't even bother to ask why I had not eaten it. I had chicken on another occasion in the Moonlight Sonata and again it was tough and overcooked and I asked for it to be changed. The Maitre d' then came over demanding to know what was wrong with the food and I explained it was overcooked which he denied. At this point everyone close by in the restaurant was staring so I asked him to leave it, and that I would eat in the buffet. He ignored me and continued to demand why I did not like the food stating it was his job to find out why I was not happy. I had already explained multiple times that the chicken was overcooked and tough and as half the restaurant was now staring I told him to leave. This behaviour is totally unacceptable. When the waiters were clearing the tables there was alot of chicken returned. I had the Moroccan lamb one evening and it was pure fat and gristle and the mint dip was missing. By this time I was fed up of complaining so just left it but there is absolutely no excuse for serving such poor quality meat. As mentioned, the vegetarian options were non existent and the menu had the same 5 items on every day with an additional 2 options which changed daily. Not the high quality dining expereience I was led to believe. On the final evening we ordered the lobster and again it was overcooked to the point that it could not be cut. On this occasion we stated we wanted the meal changed with no fuss and to be fair, the Maitre d' did not appear but this does not excuse basic cooking skills which were totally lacking. The same evening, my daughter was eating her meal and inside the potato was a long thin piece of plastic. I showed this to our waiter who laughed and said it is what they use to show how the steaks are cooked and he simply put it in his pocket and walked off. I did not find this funny so what the waiter saw as amusing is beyond me. An apology would have been nice but by now we had just resigned ourselves to the fact the ship is staffed by incompetents that have no idea how to provide even basic levels of customer service. The sommelier in the Moonlight Sonata was never to be found, when our wine glasses were empty, we had to ask the food waiter to go and find him to get more drinks. I gave up in the end and just ordered a bottle of lager and made this last the entire meal. The rest of our party persevered with wine but on at least half the evenings, they weren't served wine until we were part way through the main course. We ate breakfast and lunch in the buffet most days and I have never been served by more surely and rude staff before. Thye should take a leaf from hte staff in fast food takeaways. On one occasion at breakfast, I was waiting for some toast and another traveller came up and went to pick up a bagel. The lady behind the counter shouted at him "don't touch!" Like he was a 4 year old child. Whilst I understand you don't pick up the food, there are ways and means of dealing with guests and barking at them is not the way to do it. The food in the buffet was hit and miss, the biryani contained hard burnt lumps of food, the bread rolls for the burgers and hotdogs are kept in ceramic trays under heat lamps so go hard. There is a lack of attention to detail and is is no better than an average supermarket cafe quality. Every lunch time, the waiters would come round the buffet asking if we wanted drinks, on each occasion my mother asked for a pot of tea and was duly bought the drink. On the 5th day, we asked for a pot of tea and the waiter, in a very offhand way, stated he doesn't serve tea, we have to get that ourselves and just pointed to where the coffee machines were. If this is the case why were we served the previous 4 days. On another occasion in the buffet, we found a table which still had plates and drinks from the previous guests, (a common problem in the buffet is tables not being cleared). I sat down and saw a waitress coming over so I asked her if she could clear the table. Without saying anything or showing any acknowledgement or emotion at all, she simply picked up the dirty plates and glasses, put them on her trolly and walked off. There was spilt food and drink on the table which she had completely ignored and I had to chase after her to get her to wipe the tables down. Again this was done without her saying a word. For a company obsessed with hand cleansing, which i totally support, the staff should never leave dirty tables. I ordered a bloody Mary at the buffet bar and was told they were out of Worcestershire sauce! 10 feet away in the buffet area were 4 bottles, was it too much trouble for the barman to get it. The stateroom I stayed in was not cleaned properly, under the settee was thick dust and under the bed was a pair of prescription children's glasses. If the staterooms were cleaned properly these would have been found as they were right under the centre of the bed. On one evening I did not fancy any of the meals on the menu at the Moonlight Sonata and in view of the previous problems there, I decided to skip my evening meal. At 20.30 there was a knock at the door; I was reading a book lying on my bed and i shouted busy, can you come back later. The cabin attendant did not hear me and came in saying he wanted to turn the beds down. I asked him to come back later and he replied it will only take a minute so I asked him again to come back later. He still persisted saying he had to take the O'Dourves tray back and walked straight in and took it away. Is 'can you come back later' so hard to understand? We attended the cinema one evening and half way through the film, the 'silent disco' started outside and for the entire second half of the film, all we could hear was 50 people singing very loudly and out of tune to 3 different songs at the same time. The silent disco is a great idea but the planning and execution is all wrong. Why situate this, knowing it is a noisy event, right outside the cinema at the same time as a film is showing? On the first evening, we went to the Martini Bar and I was looking at the cocktail menu. When the main waiter came over and asked for our order, as it was our first day and we weren't sure how the drinks package worked, I explained we had the classic drinks package and asked what cocktails we could have. In a very offhand manner he told me I could not afford anything on the menu I was looking at and took it off me and placed it under the table. What I can and cannot afford is absolutely nothing to do with the waiters, we immediately walked out and went to the Cellar Master wine bar where the Sommelier was excellent, One of the few ships crew I can really applaud. On the 4th evening, I complained to guest services and asked for the gratuities I had pre paid to be returned hoping this might spark some life and sense of customer wellbeing into the staff. The following day I received a note to contact the head of customer services. It took a few days to meet her, my fault for being busy. Patricia was vey professional and listened to my concerns and said she would speak to the management team to see what could be done. Unfortunately, the service did not improve. This is not the first cruise we have taken and last year we travelled with Royal Caribbean which was excellent. We were recommended Celebrity as being in the same group as Royal Caribbean but offering a higher level of service. I have found this to be so far from the truth. On 2 separate occasions I overheard people complaining; 2 ladies on the sun deck were complaining about the service on board and stated they would never cruise with Celebrity again, and another couple in the lift were discussing between them the attitude of the staff. We picked this cruise for the itinerary (UK, Ireland, Le Havre, Brugge, Amsterdam) and the ship. 14 days and only two at sea, so lots of ports and shore excursions, The ship was in great condition, the crew was very attentive, dining was above average for cruises, and the shore excursions were generally very good. We are frequent Celebrity cruisers and particularly like the ships in this class (Reflection, Eclipse, Silhouette, etc.) Always a learning experience, we picked up some tips for cabin selection, shore excursions in some ports, and little lessons in things like currency exchange. Even after 25 cruises, there are things to learn. Food: I hope people don't weight reports of past food quality as a criterion for picking a ship. The galley crew and chefs rotate regularly, so the overall dining experience can change in a few months, especially with senior food service staff turnover. We were very happy with Eclipse and have had only one sub-par cruise based on food quality. Remember, all these chefs are working with whatever gets delivered to the ship, unlike the TV chefs who shop daily in their local markets. Glitches: We did have a serious debarkation issue in Glasgow caused by tide conditions and having only one gangway. Shore trips were delayed 90 minutes and those going ashore on their own had a couple hour delay. This problem should have been predictable. We had some back-ups in Guernsey, too, but that's a tendering port using the ship's lifeboats. Even in low sea states, a passing ship or barge created dangerous conditions for departing or embarking on the lifeboat. Minor currency issue: Does everyone know that the Brits changed their 5 Pound note and in May started refusing to accept the old version? After I was slipped a couple of the old notes it became an adventure to try to dump them. No retail outfit will accept them and unless you have a local account, banks won't take them, either. The one place that happily fixed the problem was the Royal Mail post office. One more thing: Ne careful in the UK because there are different versions of the British Pound. We had Scottish and English Pounds, as well as Guernsey Pounds. While some places were nervous about Scottish Pounds, the Guernsey Pounds were almost impossible to use off the island - even though they are supposed to be official tender in the UK. Don't leave Guernsey with a fist full of Guernsey notes unless you plan to return and use them there in the future! Fitness: I am old but I use the fitness centers daily. While other Celebrity ships have had maintenance issues with equipment (or space stolen from fitness to turn into retail Canyon Spa money-makers, Eclipse had everything working, clean and ready to use. Have previously been on the same mini cruise on Eclipse two years ago and recommended it for a friends birthday after having a great time. What a mistake. It was like a completely different cruise and would not recommend it at all. From start to finish it was chaos, overcrowded with large groups of Hen and stag parties, half and hour wait to get drinks even tho we had a drinks package, which had not been registered on our card, hour queue at customer relations desk to resolve issue, overheard one persons comment on pool deck, this is like a floating Weatherspoons!!! I couldn't agree more. No knives, forks and cups available on food deck, no breakfast left on second day, queues in coffee cafe, queues everywhere. Rude staff who seemed to not want to be there, bar staff putting anything in cocktails. No beds available on pool deck due to overcrowding. All in all a terrible experience never to be repeated, what has happened to Celebrity in two years??? Read Less

Our friends are avid travellers with Celebrity Cruises and have made this same trip last year. They recommended it to my husband and I and we booked up as a group of 10. We booked in March and everything was supposed to be included when we made our final payment. Alas this was changed on our boarding date and we had a choice to upgrade. Which we were not told about. As we left our cabin, the chaos began, the bars on all decks were 6 deep, the bar staff were in turmoil, they couldn't cope with the influxes of passengers. The bars ran out of stock. The drinks package was a complete and utter disaster as people were told if they weren't on the premium package that they weren't allowed branded names of drinks. This is where you were told you had to upgrade, which understandably made people very annoyed as they hadn't signed up for this and it wasn't explained in the paperwork. A Missold Cruise in mine and many others opion. The management must have known to deal with 2000 passengers they had far too few staff to deal with, what I can only describe as a booze cruise. The food was very disappointing in the evening and again desparatly low on staff, the pressure on them certainly showed, this is not their fault in the slightest again it's the cruise liner exploiting their staff. Entertainment uninspired. If Celebrity are trying to encourage more people to cruise by the deplorable experience we have had, do what American do best hire the best and fire the rest! If this ship had Americans travelling it wouldn't have left Southampton!!!!! The only good thing I have to say is that our cabin was comfortable, very clean and a haven of peace for the lunacy that was happening on the ship. Read Less

We sailed on the 2 day trial cruise May 2015, it was so good, we booked again this year and recommended it to our friends, each couple paying £800 to include the classic drinks package in Aqua Class. Iglu assured us this would cover all normal beers and wine this was serious mis selling it only really included very basic beers (for example not Corona beer) and no wine. This was exasperated by our card not being marked as to the package we were on and there were no lists of what was or wasn't included and nothing on our booking confirmation, some staff told us it covered drinks up to $6 and others said $9 this was only confirmed by trial and error at the till, we were forced to ungraded to Premium drinks package at a cost of $96 per couple but we shouldn't have bothered as the drinks confusion was ship wide, every bar and every passenger having to go through this trial and error at the till, creating 6 deep queues where there were huge arguments over the various drinks package people were on, the bar staff added to the confusion by their lack of knowledge. The ship was either unable to cope with the number of passengers or it was seriously undersaffed, creating bad tempers and confrontation through out, it was a complete nightmare, to call it Weatherspoons at see is more of an insult to Weatherspoons than Celebrity. We got off as early as we could on Saturday when we docked at Le Harve and stayed off until the last possible moment before sailing, such was the incredibly poor atmosphere onboard. The queues to get off on Sunday morning were an hour and a half or more. Early this year we sailed on the QM2 and didn't want to get off, on Celebrity we couldn't wait to get off. We were seriously mis sold by Iglu, endorsed by Celebrity incredibly unprofessional service...Never Again. Read Less

Travelled in a Royal Suite costing $13k. Included premium drinks for both wife and myself. I am teetotal. My wife hardly drinks. She had one glass of wine the whole trip. They charged an extra $6, which the Hotel Director maintained when I said it was petty. The band on board was awful. The only "show" we went to lasted about 30 minutes. Great comedian, but no band, dancers or anything. Just a quick Caberet! This cruise line, or is it just Eclipse, is going down the pan. (Our 4th sailing on her) Food was mediocre. But very good if you were one of those who paid $500 a head. Speciality dining is nothing to write home about. Even if you pay the $45 a head extra for the steak house, they then stick you for another $18 or so for a good steak! And the Michaels Club (club??) is now great for those who do not get an included drinks package. Because the drinks are free. So don't bother to buy a package, go in there and fill your boots. A vanishing concierge in the club, and a rude and very temperamental barmaid, make for a very Royal experience. But whatever you do, don't tell the Hotel Director. He really doesn't like criticism. But then he is only about 33 and seriously inexperienced. Perhaps that is why some of the staff appear to be running rings around him. And when asked to leave the ship before the end of the cruise, we were extremely relieved. We had already decided to jump ship, and they made it easier. So, to sum up, if you want a cheap junket, this is for you. Otherwise, there are far better offerings available. Read Less

I have cruised with Celebrity a few times and it has always lived up to my expectations but not this last one. The restroom in the cabin number 6317 had a drain that stank from sullage (waste water). The management did absolutely nothing to repair the fault but try to mask it with fragrances poured down the drain many times a day and the placing of an air freshener in the room. Sullage contains bacteria and instead of isolating the room they played Russian Roulette so to speak with our health and that of the rest of the ship, should an infection have broken out. We were offered nothing as a recompense not even an apology. The attitude of the other management was no better. There was a concerted drive to make the passengers use the expensive speciality restaurants ($50 US each) to the detriment of all other dining especially the buffet where the choice on the evening menu has shrunk to a ‘what can we get away with’ level. There were complaints galore from loads of passengers especially about the excursions. One passenger in a wheelchair was taken on an excursion to a castle where there were no lifts and on another occasion he was supposed to have booked a three-hour sightseeing tour and ended up being ferried to an observation tower, dumped for half an hour and ferried back to the ship an hour early. Another lady booked a culinary special where she would be taken to a fish factory and an accompanying chef would prepare a meal using the different fish caught. When they arrived at the factory it was closed for it was a bank holiday. The chef provided a huge block of frozen cod and cooked it for them but the lady said he had not cooked it properly. After complaining her excursion money was refunded but she was very disappointed. You cruise with Celebrity at your own peril. Read Less

I'd heard good things about Celebrity. We booked a holiday cruise just to enjoy a week of doing not much of anything, just some time in the sun doing a bit of reading. We chose a big boat because we thought the variety in dining and entertainment would be better. Boy were we wrong. Celebrity has three classes of passengers. The top are the "suite" passengers, the next are the "aqua class" passengers, and the rest are "Walmart" passengers. As Walmart passengers, we had exactly 2 choices for restaurants (unless we wanted to pay an up charge $90/couple at one of the speciality resturants). We were not allowed into the suite or Aqua class bars or restaurants. The quality of the food was comparable to a Ruby Tueday's. The hard sell on beverage packages by the entire staff on the first two days was annoying. It was even more annoying when those who bought the package realized they'd need to drink 8-10 beers/cocktails per day to break even. Most gave it their best try and drunken loutishness was common. I expected to have families with children onboard but I was not prepared for the sheer quantity of newborn infants, toddlers, feral children, and the playground-level screaming around the pool. I cannot understand why these families didn't book with Disney. Well, we've learned our lesson. One additional thing...if you decide to go with Celebrity, pray you will never need to leave the ship in a lifeboat. Our lifeboat drill was a complete joke. We assembled in a location that was not the actual place we'd need to go. We were told to watch video. Unfortunately, no one could find/see the screens. People never stopped talking long enough to listen to instructions. I've cruised with 6 different cruise lines over the years...they all took the lifeboat drill very seriously. Not so with Celebrity. I have been on many cruises. But celebrity are just after your money. The minute you get on board, you are pestered for the first 3 days about upgrading. Every were you go restaurant bar lift. Its so annoying. but that's not all. Everything is so over priced on board. I do understand you will pay more, but greed is not the word. 1 can of coke $4 water $5 and its the same brand you get 6 for in the pound shop. Bingo $40 a game. I asked about this and was told they have got to make some money. I said but its just a bit of fun when at sea. Wine $18 a glass. A Massage full Massage, get this $160 any hotel i have been its about $40 If you do complain, they start to harass you, They don't like you to complain. The couple we had dinner with every night. daughter become ill back home, So they needed to get a flight home. Celebrity gave them no help at all. Not even a taxi to the airport. So i helped them my self. One lady was cross with another passenger, for standing in her view. She was spoken to like a child. She was also told she would not be welcome on there ships again. How mad is that. I thing the management act like they are gods. The security guys think they are police men. So my advise keep away. Many offer a very good service like P&O. So we will never use Celebrity again. Take my advise don't do it. WiFi was just crazy it was about $30 a day. So even the crew, wait until you land. One day in st peters burg, a viking ship came in. It had free WiFi, so every one was on deck login in to that ship. How bad is. that. Read Less

Our 31st cruise, second on the Eclipse. April 2014 and 2015. Sole reason we chose Eclipse a second time was because of the 14 night duration, destination and month. Pros: Very stable ship, public areas well looked after, cabin size adequate, soundproofing a success but quality of mattresses very limited. Cons: Food quality proposed on Sonata Dining room and on the Lido deck, very disappointing when comparing to other ships we have been on including some of Carnival's. Limited choice of appetizers, canned vegetables, small portions of meat (3 lamb squares with meat the size of a quarter) same critics for rib-eye and expect polenta almost every evening. With 5 paying restaurants or café on deck five, expect left-overs for the following day lunch. Ambiance. Worst weakness. What one of the table waitor had little appreciation to confide. Relaxation: Well, expect loud and pop music on sun deck until 17h00 and getting some privacy on deck 14 is a no-no. Not an inch between lounging chairs which by the way were garbage as we saw on the last day when the crew had to remove blue tissue covering. We cannot believe our eyes. Also, unaceptable degraded and dirty sofas in the Library. Hard to understand. Overall a net disappointment after cruising on the Nieuw Amsterdam in november. Very different, very. Oh, beer is 320 ml instead of 355ml, same price, of course. Read Less

Embarkation in Miami was not very well managed and it took us quite a while to get onto the ship although we were Elite. Once on the ship we immediately went to Bistro on Five and had a wonderful lunch. We got 3 vouchers per day to use on drinks between 5 and 7 pm. The drink menu was very limited. The ship was beautiful and we were delighted with our Aqua cabin. This ship doesn't have a thalassotherapy pool as other ships do and I missed the lovely warm sea water pool. However the Persian Gardens were a lovely place to relax. The entertainment on the 4 nights we were on the ship was terrific. Four young men had a Jersey Boys act which was fabulous with audience interaction. They said they were performers on Les Miz and decided to have their own show. Their last song from Les Miz brought the house down. Food in Blu was not up to par. All the meals were served lukewarm and we had to send most back as we really don't enjoy a warm steak or the other entrees. The service also seems to have deteriorated. On a few occasions we had to remind our waiters that we were still waiting for our food. Many friends told me that since Blu is one of the main reasons they book aqua cabins and the food has deteriorated in quality, they don't feel it's worth the extra money and book concierge instead. Unfortunately we were on the ship only 5 days of our 14 day cruise. My husband experienced shortness of breath and we made the disastrous mistake of taking the advice of a fellow passenger to visit the medical department. Dr. Leal informed us that their Xray machine had been broken for months and we needed to get off the ship the next morning which was in Grenada. We were literally dumped in a third world country fearing for our safety and my husband's medical attention. When I voiced my concerns to Dr. Leal, he answered "call the US Embassy. Call the port agent" and dismissed me as if I were an irritating fly. The next 3 days in Grenada were what nightmares are made of. My husband was placed in a ward with many other men, none of whom received any medical attention. The equipment was rusted. The food was beyond disgusting - stinking fish, stale bread, shredded greens. I stayed at a hotel 25 miles away and had to take a taxi back and forth. It turns out that there was another man with the identical situation at the hospital in Grenada. He had XRays taken and was brought back to the ship in a taxi cab. I had to translate for them as they only spoke French so I know personally that they returned to the ship with XRays in hand. I have written to Celebrity and hope that they can investigate this situation. I took many pictures of the horrific conditions which I forwarded to Celebrity's president. So, my advice to everyone - do not go to the medical center. They are not there for you. If they feel there is the slightest risk of liability they will throw you off the ship. My husband would have been fine continuing as he had the first few days. He rested in our cabin most of the day and I pushed him around in a wheel chair during the evenings. Read Less

We saved our money for one year to take this 14 day cruise for our 10 year anniversary. The cruise was $3,500 for us two for a concierge suite (which was super dinky and unimpressive). We flew out of Miami and the ONLY fun time was Florida before and after the cruise! The ship was really boring, the talent was terrible except the 2 main female singers were decent, the house band was UN-BEARABLE. The lead singer was an Asian woman who must have had pretty broken English because she slaughtered every cover tune. The music was limited, so the house band would go from venue to venue. We couldn't get away from her! They did have a good jazz quartet that played every night sort of a Sinatra vibe. The average age was probably 70 and we are both 54. Suffice it to say, lots of wheelchairs and walkers. We didn't know it would be such a senior trip but maybe that is the target age of people who can take a 14 day vacation-I don't know. They had lame activities, the food was TERRIBLE, let me repeat-TERRIBLE. The dinners were about a 5 out of 10 but the other food was a 1 or 2. The only tolerable thing on our whole cruise was our porter, Micheal, and our waiter, Bonzi from Indonesia. This was our 9th cruise and our 1st AND LAST time on Celebrity. The excursions were crazy expensive, about $100 per person per day, so that was another $1,200. There is no quality control re: the excursions, i.e. our 6 hr snorkeling catamaran had a broken radio so NO music the whole time. It seems like someone should be keeping an eye on the quality of the excursions. It was nice that every port was on land and no tender boats were required for the entire cruise. We asked to get OFF on the very first day when we knew we were going to hate it. The Asst Mgr said we were "jumping the gun. Wait til the activities start tomorrow!". We were shocked to hear the ship was 5 years old. There was no grand atrium with a baby grande, no topless deck, no pool table, no disco, and the pool area was a joke. It was so small, the chairs would fill up by 11am. We literally were unable to lay out at the pool one day! People would lay their towels down and go eat and you never knew if they were coming back. The wireless service was $349 so we could check in with our kids and work every day. My husband bought a soft drink/bottled water card (because neither one of us drink) and it was $280. When we checked out, we were shocked that our sign & sail card was an additional $3,300. We figured that with our flights from SFO and cruise, it was over $10,000! If we had known that, we would have gone to the Atlantis in the Bahamas, but it was going to be $9,000 and we couldn't justify it. Jokes on us!!! Read Less
